Vanessa was aaaaamazzzzingggg! Probably the most relaxing and enjoyable hair appointment I have experienced! Truly a spa treatment with heated neck support at the sink, a warm towel across my forehead, and sitting by a toasty warm fire while my color processed. Vanessa was personable, professional and expertly nailed the color! Look at the result! I will definitely be back. Thank you Vanessa!
I love PENZONE! I go for lots of services, but mainly waxing and hair. I’ve been seeing Porter at the Gahanna location for my cut and color for YEARS, and my 8 year old daughter sees her as well! I can’t say enough about her and her talents as a stylist! She listens, asks questions and explains things to make sure I know exactly what I am looking for and the outcome and it’s always just as I imagined! My daughter loves her salon days too and has deemed them “Porter PENZONE Day!” Porter is simply amazing! I highly recommend her and this fantastic location in Gahanna!
Extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Charles Penzone in New Albany. They canceled my appointment just two hours before I was scheduled to be there, leaving me in a bind right before an important event. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances happen, the lack of accommodation was frustrating. When I suggested that they offer the next service for free as a gesture of goodwill, they refused to discuss it. All I received was a vague promise to call back in a few days, with the possibility of receiving a mere 20% discount. As a long-time customer, I expected better customer service and flexibility, especially in such situations.
Violet was amazing, very cool an we vibed, I loved the look of the place, very nice. I like how I didnt feel pressured to buy anything an that made me want to try things out more. My hair turned out great. Better than I elected expected, Already rebooked!
Had my first appointment with Colleen at Gahanna location. Came in with a shapeless, overgrown shag and left with a cute bob-exactly what I wanted! Colleen was personable, professional and helped me decide the best style for my hair. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Reception staff very friendly too!
I showed multiple photos of the exact haircut that I was looking for and also photos of what I did not want before the haircut to my stylist. We had a detailed discussion on what I was looking for. It did not help. This was supposed to be a long layered cut by a senior director Sydney (highest pricing and most experience in the salon). Hair isnt blended AT ALL and just looks awful. It wasn’t noticed by me at the salon because the straightening using the heated flat iron after the haircut made all of the hair flatten. But once the flat iron straightening wears off, one can tell - it’s just awful and not blended in so I have to get it fixed at another salon. Until then, I’m having to tie it up.To anyone reading this - please sort the reviews by ‘lowest’ and read through. There are other reviews with equally terrible layered cuts. I should have seen it before I picked this place for mine.Edit after owner response - I have called this place twice and they keep saying someone who issues refunds will call me back and it’s been more than two weeks, and two phone calls from me, and nobody has reached out to me.I placed a third phone call to speak to the salon. The director stated that the salon does not process refunds. The two representatives I spoke with over the first two phone calls did not mention this as their policy. So the salon will not be refunding the 100$ for this butchered haircut.
My husband had his hair butchered at this location. Called and the customer service person told me that they were still learning and they were a lower level so it can be expected. Even the lowest levels should be able to cut hair properly. Bummed because the other Penzone salons are actually pretty good. This one is horrendous. Don’t go, I could cut my husband’s hair better than this.
Hair straightening was charged 108 for color n straightening. I specifically told her I want thin flat iron but she just blow dried n did flat iron for less than 2 min. My appointment was until 4:39 she finished by 4. Anything u ask she is being rude n finally she didnt flat iron my hair n charged 108 plus 10.00 tip for shoulder length color n blow dry. Big rip off . Hair color was not done well still have Grey hair sticking on top layer.
I just recently got a haircut here and left feeling super rushed and disappointed! For starters, I have never gotten a haircut that didn’t include a wash to begin with. I went in with dirty hair in a braid, looking forward to a wash before my haircut, as that is always the best part. Apparently booking a “haircut only” means they will literally cut your hair no matter what it looks like. Given that my naturally straight hair was in a braid that day, I was super upset when she started cutting at my dry, wavy hair. I spoke up and asked for a wash, to which she responded that was an add-on that I didn’t book. (The website states a blowout is not included, but says nothing about a wash not being included.) She said if she washed my hair, I would have to leave with it wet as she didn’t have time to blowdry. (Last I checked blowdrying my hair doesn’t take 25 minutes.) On top of this, I was in the chair for no more than 5 minutes. A very quick haircut with no attention to detail. I have already rebooked at a different salon a few days later to fix the unevenness and actually pay attention to what I’m asking for.
Possibly the worst hair cut I’ve gotten and not worth the money. I went in to have the front of my hair blended, stylist did not understand what i wanted so i trusted her to do what she thought was best after explaining to me that we would just need to take length off all over for it to look good. I knew instantly when she started cutting my hair, taking random chunks out, it wasn’t going to be good. She also “added layers” without discussing with me first if that would be okay (it wouldn’t have). Very disappointed in the services provided after being highly recommended to this salon and leaving with what looks like someone who took a weed eater to my hair
I had an apt booked for 130pm for a cut and highlight. I was called at 1pm saying they have to cancel bc the stylist is behind and doing a baylage (which is what I had prior done, not what I wanted today) would take too long. So I said “actually I was wanting to get my hair cut off a substantial amount and just get highlights” to which I was told “ yeah any type of highlight or baylage would push her back so we can’t today” I took off work to get this done, which is not easy to do. Also if I were to cancel 30mins before the appointment I would get charged but they can cancel so shortly before the appointment and offer nothing for it. I understand things happen but this just didn’t seem right.
I was really excited to visit Penzone! I had a gift card and was excited to have some time to myself! The new store is very pretty and modern. It’s very open and has a cafe. (Due to its openness, it does not offer a lot of privacy.)They offer free coffee, ice tea and infused ice water while waiting. I was a bit disappointed in my service. I got a mani and pedi. Both services combined were over in less than an hour. All I got with my gel manicure was cuticle trim and polish. No lotions or sugar scrub. Very basic! I also got an express pedicure. I did expect less because it was express. It is very basic! I personally felt it was expensive for what I received, maybe my expectations were a bit too high compared to service I have received from the Woodhouse spa? Total for the two was 99.38 and that did not include a tip, and I was in and out in under an hour. Everyone was nice and helpful.
Sasha and Fran are the BEST hair stylists. Have been using Penzone for over 15 years. My mother uses Fran, my son has seen her, and I see Sasha. They are truly the best and cutting edge in Ohio.
I expected more from Penzone. The nail tech was super nice and friendly, but workmanship not so much. I’ve been looking for someone since I lost my last nail tech of 15years. These nails are lumpy and look horrible. If youre going to hire someone fresh out of nail school, then okay, but you shouldnt be charging top dollar as if their master nail tech.
Google asked me what I like about Penzone (good quality, professional, clean, etc)...I would say all of the above! I have been coming here for hair, nails, what have you, for years and every artist has been a great value, professional, on time, etc. I always feel so pampered, beautiful, and like the best version of myself after leaving this location. All the artists here are welcoming, friendly, warm, and get the job done. 10/10 would recommend, whether it be for a sample manicure of a complex dye job.
I was impressed by the cleanliness and also the friendliness of the staff.I would highly recommend Hunter. She was so sweet and asked questions to figure out what I really wanted. She took her time with me and didn’t make me feel like I was just another client. She gets 5 stars from me.
5/5 10/10 100/100 amazing experience. I had a massage with Savannah and it was by far the most physically relaxing and mentally opening massage I have ever received. Thank you so much for the experience! I loved every bit of it 🥰
Staff is usually very nice & helpful. Place is always clean & has a nice vibe. I drive the distance to see Athena for any facials or waxing. She is phenomenal.
My appointment was over in 17 minutes- including checking in, chatting about the haircut I wanted (but did not get at all) washing, cutting, and paying! The haircut is so out of style. She even curled my bangs under. Basically just looks like a five minute end trim I could’ve done myself.
I have been a long time customer but this last visit will be my last. After a mistake of being brought back by the wrong hair stylist (partially my mistake not knowing the name of the stylist I booked) I felt shamed and very embarrassed/ not welcome by management and stylists. My hair was rushed and I was overcharged. Such a bummer because historically I have had good experiences. As a new mom who needed a relaxing time for myself I cannot any longer recommend.
Ive been looking for a regular salon to go to for many years and had yet to find one that was up to my standards to develop a relationship with until I had my haircut appointment with Violet. She asked questions about what I wanted and checked with me on the progress throughout the appointment. It was a simple, dry cut, but by far the best Ive had. She adapted the cut for my hair type and asked about my hair goals. Shell make you feel like youre her best friend while making your hair exactly how you want it.
I have been coming to this salon since it was at its old location off of Morse road. I love my usual stylist, and she and I coordinated to have my bridal hair and makeup done in the salon because I truly only trust her with my hair anymore. I reached out to on the bridal services page, and had a thorough phone meeting with Emma. I had a few friends joining me to get ready, as well as my MOH, flower girl, mother, and mother in law. Scheduling and communication via email could have been better. I think things were delayed a bit, and maybe this misunderstood in emails with the coordinator. Schedules werent sent, or changed, and I had several problems with invoices. I was also extremely disappointed to learn after booking and paying the deposit that there is no bridal suite at this brand new location that was recently built, you would think that with so many wedding venues in this area this would have been taken into consideration before building. So my girls and I didnt get that cute and fun getting ready vibe, we were all spread out, I didnt even know where each girl was at what time or if they were even there. I chose this location because of its proximity to my venue, but I would highly recommend clarifying which locations have bridal areas so you get to have that girly fun getting ready time. I maybe even would have paid extra for on site services if I had known the experience would be this disappointing in terms of spending that time with everyone. Aside from no bridal suite, everyone was extremely happy with the stylists and makeup artists. We all loved our hair and makeup, and it lasted all day through tears and hours of dancing, and into the after parties. The stylists and manager of this location tried their very hardest to give us an area to congregate, and I am so grateful for them. I could tell they rearranged some things in the salon to help with that, but with other clients being there it still got crowded and we felt very much in the way. The manager even packed up the food for me, and checked in with all the girls throughout. She was amazing that day, and so were our stylists and artists. With that said, I am not sure why I didnt just work directly with the salon manager. Other then a phone call and a few emails, the coordinator Emma was not present the day of, did not have an area we could all be in, and just simply did not put in the effort that the salon manager and my stylist did to ensure the schedules and space were as optimal as they could be.
Athena waxed my brows and she was amazing! Personable, friendly, great energy. I definitely recommend her and will definitely book with her again in the future!
Booked pedicure for my 90yo mother. Cristina was wonderful. So kind and caring. Helped my mother get situated and have a nice relaxing experience. My mom felt so good after! Thank you!!
I went in for a massage. I told my massage therapist it was really cold. She said they they cannot get the heat to work correctly back there. After I received a massage, I told the front desk receptionists that they should get the heat fixed. It was so cold in the room that it made that the worst massage experience. The receptionist then said, “oh they love it! It’s like a workout.” I said “but what about your client’s experience?” She didn’t look at me or respond. I said, “Well I guess that doesn’t matter.” Needless to say I would not recommend this “spa.” You can get great massages so many places in Columbus and not pay for overpriced poor customer service.
Why do women spend hundreds of dollars at salons and spas? Simplest answer? To feel pretty and good about themselves. Tonight I had the unfortunate experience of leaving Penzone’s in Gahanna in tears. Not because I was unhappy with my service (which was a color and hair cut), but because of my overall experience of the environment. I am not a size 2 kind of girl. I felt out of place and as if I was taking up too much space and that I just didn’t fit. I felt the opposite of beautiful when I walked out of the door. I was saddened that such a well regarded establishment does not embrace the diversity and individual beauty of ALL women. I would think that in 2023 we should and certainly could do better. Perhaps what made me the most sad this evening was seeing 2 teenage girls with their mothers. I know that I can’t even begin to fathom the pressures on young women today. I would hope that they would at least be able to know and experience beauty in an inclusive way where each woman, regardless of her size, race, or any of the other things that divide us could instead bring us together and connect us in ways that we as women can only understand.Ultimately, no one should feel devalued or out of place because they do not fit some preconceived notion of beauty. My tears are worth more than a 92 dollar hair cut (sorry…not sorry).P.S. I do recognize that men also are patrons of the salon. This was written in regards to my experience as a woman.
I’ve been going to Violet to get my hair done for years! She is the best colorist in Columbus! I drive 45mins to see her every couple of months. She has always been kind, considerate, and professional. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great hair colorist and stylist!
I got a facial from Athena at 9:00am on Saturday, 9/30 and it was amazing. She was great and I definitely recommend her. The reason for my low review is due to a front desk staff member. This was my first time visiting a Penzones. I had a gift card to use, so I was excited to have a self-care day. When I walked in, this staff member didn’t say anything. She walked right past me and went straight to her computer. She clearly saw me standing there. I asked about using my gift card for my service and asked where I needed to wait. She was super short with me and unfriendly. There was never a “hello” or “welcome in” or “how can I help you?” After the service, I went to pay and she couldn’t scan my gift card for some reason. She stood there for 10 minutes trying to type things in. She asked me where I got the gift card and asked the name of who gave it to me. When she searched her name, it wasn’t showing up. This staff member said, “Nothing is showing up, so there’s not much more I can do. I can email accounting and see if they can figure it out and reimburse you later, but there’s nothing I can do now.” I had plans to use my gift card, so I couldn’t pay for it. After calling the person who gave me the gift card and trying a different name, she was able to find the gift card on the computer. I’m not sure why they couldn’t scan gift cards like every other business. She was extremely rude and shouldn’t be in the position she’s in if she can’t be friendly and welcoming to customers. I will not be returning to this location.
Amy has been doing my hair for almost a year now. She is very friendly, down to earth & easy to talk to. Amy does an AMAZING job EVERY TIME! I normally get highlights & a cut when I come in. Ive never had anyone else do such a great job with my hair! I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HER!
Staff was extremely professional and kind but the process of getting a facial and a massage is a little disappointing. Why is there no place to change clothes and use a locker? Also you have to walk across the salon to use the bathroom in your robe. It’s disappointing because I thought Penzones was more luxury than this especially for the prices they charge. Athena gives a great facial, Raquel is the sweetest masseuse if you don’t want a deep massage. Overall I doubt we will go back but it was still a fun day. The snack bar was delicious.
Please do NOT go to this salon. I paid $83 for the highest skill level to cut my new $450 extensions and they BUTCHERED them. It doesn’t blend at all and now I can’t even use them. Every time I call they give me an excuse and won’t commit to giving me a refund. This was an absolutely awful experience and similar to another review I read, they straighten your hair before you leave so you don’t realize how bad it looks. I can’t believe they consider themselves an upscale salon. Also, won’t give a corporate number to escalate the situation. I’m definitely complaining to the BBB
I have had two wonderful experiences at this salon and both of my appointments were with Spencer. He was personable, confidant and I felt very comfortable letting him cut and color my hair. I am so sad though because this morning, when I went to schedule an appointment with him again, I found out he is no longer working there. :(
I havent been to Anita at Penzone for a while and I like the new location, it made me feel comfortable. Anita was wonderful not only did she remember me she helped me figure out what to do with my thin, fine hair. She is personable and very competent. Im so glad I went. Also what makes what she did for me even better is I can style it too and thats great. Thank you Anita!
I went to the Gahanna/New Albany Penzones today. The property looks like its brand new although its been open for almost 1 1/2 years.. I had an appointment with Kim for a haircut. The atmosphere is very professional. Its very clean, modern, stocked. I checked in at a kiosk and walked to the back of the lobby to find a seat. Kim came out and greeted me and took me back to her station for my haircut. She listened to what I wanted and asked questions when needed which I appreciated. She took me back to shampoo my hair. I received the most luxurious and relaxing shampoo of my life. First of all there is a warming plate on the chair where the back of your neck rests...the water temperature was perfect...no adjusting while the water is running through my hair...and finally the shampoo/scalp massage/little bit of heaven followed. I could have laid there for days. Kim cut my hair perfectly. I have curly hair and the majority of hairdressers cannot cut curly correctly. She explained each product she was using. She didnt mind my interruptions for things I forgot to mention...like I need texturizing of my crown so I get lift. Kim is amazing and very, very competent.. I scheduled my next appointment while checking out.
Tried the new location in New Albany and could not have been more impressed. The interior is bright and welcoming, my stylist Lily was incredibly kind and helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. She gave me the best haircut I’ve gotten in years. I can’t wait for my next haircut here!
I have had multiple issues with this location over the last 3 years and my business has been permanently lost. I have had 2 appointments cancelled day of due to my stylist being sick. This would be understandable but she was apparently well enough to be posting on her instagram that same day. However, my larger issue is management’s response. If I am expected to have a credit card on file for any issues with me cancelling an appointment last minute I expect some kind of compensation for my inconvenience if I can’t be fit in that day with another stylist, even if it is something as simple as a discount on next service. Kathy, you handled the situation poorly when I called. Your response was crude and frankly unprofessional. However, this is unsurprising to me from managements at this location. Almost 2 years ago I had an appt for a blow out for which I was 10minutes late due to traffic. The stylist started my service and washed my hair. Upon drying my hair she stated she wouldn’t have time to style it. I questioned why she would even start the service if this was the case and I asked if someone else would be able to. After several minutes, management informed me that there was no one available. I responded that this was unacceptable. Management proceeded to blame me for the situation as I was 10minutes late. 10minutes is a deal breaker? No that stylist was already behind is the problem. I have waited 30 minutes for a stylist at this location without issue. Thank goodness the stylist behind us, Miley, stepped up to finish my service. Honestly, I should have not returned after this interaction.
I show-up for my 8:45 appt 10 mins early. By 9:15 I went to desk to ask if there was an issue: Around 9:30 the manager comes over to tell me the artist wad behind & she (manager)got busy & failed to contact me earlier in the morning & was busy as well upon my arrival to let me know. She offers a 30% discount off my service or to reschedule. I advised I couldnt reschedule my 1st appointment was rescheduled due to my stylist being injured and that I work full-time & do not have availability on Monday or Tuesday. As I was speaking to the manager letting het know that this situation was not acceptable & that going forward I most likely would not return. Violet (stylist) comes over, an hour over after the start time & interjected that she felt I was putting her in a bad position & I was aggressive because I was speaking to the manager not Violet expressing that I didnt think I would return. We go back & forth I finally say the longer we continue this you fall further behind lets just get this done. Goto her chair she starts asking about my hair I tell just die, highlights & cut. She continues to ask questions I have no clue to nor honestly did I understand because my normal person I trust we never discuss anything. Violet is rolling her eyes I can see she is angry & frustrated. She then throws the towel on the counter & walks away. 20 minutes later the manager is back telling me we are at an impass stating Violet is refusing to do my hair & there is no one else by now we are at over 2hrs of me being there. I explain to manager I couldnt answer her questions because I didnt know & specifically asked when scheduling that someone let Violet know what my stylist uses ect. I was told when scheduling that she would be I expressed this to both Violet & the manager. Violets responded by stating when you call you are not calling the specific location. Ok, but I told her they promised me they would make sure she knew even if that meant she spoke to my stylist prior. Violet also advised the reason for the delay was her client from cleveland was late & she told the front desk to call me, so all of this was not her fault. I have never been treated like this. I never once raised my voice but that doesnt mean you can disrespect my time either. Violets attitude left me in tears while trying to explain to the manager who just repeated sorry over & over. She did nothing to resolve the issue only added to & basically treated me like the entire situation was my fault. I have been going there almost 4yrs love my stylist but will not go back after this experience. I didnt realize adults can be over an hour late, call you aggressive when you arent, throw things then stalk off like a child have a temper tantrum to their manager get their way, but apparently at this location that is exactly what happens.Update: I spoke with Beth the director there is no resolution. Was told repeatedly there is 3 side to this & we all see things differently. The version she was given by her employee obviously differs from mine, so I told her to pull the video to see the timeline. She told me she wasnt going to that. I wanted to speak to the director because the way Violet spoke to the manager. To witness that exchange was beyond uncomfortable made me very uncomfortable with Violet. In my opinion it was abusive. I generally felt bad for the manager & wanted to bring to the directors attention. When your employees action make someone have a panic attack you might want to take that into consideration. I truly hope this is an isolated incident.
I got a gift card to Penzone from my job and I just want to say I went with low expectations...I typically have little faith in big name salons when it comes to my curly hair but they did great. The coloring service wasnt perfect but the haircut was TOPS. I loved the layers my stylist cut for me!
I have only ever had issues when going to this location. Two were for homecoming hair & makeup which we only ended up coming back to because we had gift card. First time they couldn’t do the hairstyle my sister requested, but the makeup lady was great. Second time they were almost an hour late calling her back to get her hair done & while waiting a makeup artist commented on the fact that another was trying to get clients to do a more expensive concealer & wasn’t contouring, using blush, etc. like she should have been. People that I have spoken with have been rude and don’t make any attempt to solve problems. Also showed up for an appointment made online & was told that she didn’t have time to do the service I booked so I drove there for nothing. I will be sticking with Kenneth’s from now on. This is my first time ever leaving a review for a place because of how frustrating every experience has been and even trying to communicate with their direct line about my issues.
Ive been to several amazing salons and Ive seen everyone from designers to senior directors.. and when I say Spencer did amazing job!!! He did not disappoint!!! My hair looks amazing, he took his time and explained everything perfectly. He will be my go to stylist from now on!!! Thank you Spencer.
I normally dye my hair myself but with not being experienced with balayage I wanted to have it done by a professional. I was pretty nervous, I’d never had my hair dyed professionally and was obviously a little anxious about how it would turn out. Thankfully I had Spencer who did an AMAZING job!! He took his time, somehow came out with the EXACT results I wanted, we had great conversation the whole time, I absolutely love how he styled it, and honestly he made the whole experience just INCREDIBLE!! I will definitely be sticking with strictly him and I HIGHLY recommend him for hair needs!!
Great haircut!! My stylist understands my hair type. She is friendly and I enjoy our conversations.
I had an appointment at another salon that was canceled an hour before it was scheduled, thankfully I was able to get a last minute morning appointment at Pezone Gahanna/New Albany for an express blowout with Spencer the same morning. The salon was beautiful and Spencer was able to upgrade me to a full blowout service even though my appointment was initially not scheduled for enough time for the style I was hoping for. My beach wave curls held all day! I’d definitely go back and I’m super thankful for the service I received.
I had a CBD manicure today first time ever here at this location and it was awful, there was no hand massage or scrub and not worth the money . Very disappointed
I’m so happy about my first experience with dermaplane by Ruby at Penzone in New Albany!! I was nervous but Ruby set my mind at ease and made the experience so enjoyable. I will definitely be returning for future services because of her!! Thank you Ruby!!! 🥰
These ladies did such an amazing job providing hair for New Albany Womens Network Annual fashion show! We greatly appreciate their generosity and time! Great to work with, timely and hair for the models!
Eden was amaaaaazing! She was super knowledgeable and talked me through everything. She was so kind, professional and efficient! She personalized my hair color and cut to the T making sure to do what was best for me and my hair. And I loved how bustling the salon was. I will be back!
The girl who cut my hair was nice and personable. Hadnt been to the one on Cherry Bottom and when I called to make an appointment there, no one thought to tell me that they had moved. Was then late for my appointment when I showed up at the old place. Was pretty upset. Not thrilled with the new place - not even a little private anymore. Expected better considering what they charge. Am looking for a new place, closer to home and perhaps not as expensive.
The salon coordinators, Lea and Maddy, worked with me to schedule hair and makeup services for my bridal party. Both Lea and Maddy were friendly, professional, and responsive. However, on the day of my wedding, the salon did not follow through on the services they agreed to provide. My bridesmaids were extremely disappointed that they weren’t allowed to pick how they wanted their hair styled – rather, the salon stylist dictated how each persons’ hair was to be done. Furthermore, some of their hair needed to be curled again as soon as they got home from the salon because the curls fell out instantly. The morning of the wedding, the salon did not provide one of the makeup services that had been booked, so one of my party came home without any makeup on (fortunately, the makeup artist I hired for myself saved the day and did that person’s makeup and re-curled other members’ hair). I’m only giving the salon 2 stars, rather than 1, because Lea and Maddy were professional and friendly. The myriad problems we encountered at the salon on my wedding day dissuades me from using their services again.
I’ve been to this salon several times and never had an issue. My most recent visit was with Vanessa. She was very nice and professional but my hair cut was absolutely not what I wanted. I have a long bob and asked her to just freshen it up. As everyone knows a long bob is shorter in the back and longer in the front but some how my hair came out shorter in the front then longer in the back? It’s completely uneven. I did not realize there was any issue before leaving because I asked for my hair to be curled and she cut and styled my hair away from the mirror. Nice salon just choose your stylist wisely.
I saw Serenity for a massage. She was great, Id definitely book with her again. I have gone to Penzone previously for a prenatal massage and also had a positive experience. I only get massages here and there, but I like Penzone because its super nice, and you dont have to have a silly membership to get a decent price.
Violet is fabulous! She treated this handicapped former stylist with great respect as we collaborated on the best thing for me at this stage of life. Doing blonde highlights with a mix of gray already there was brand new for me. Already have scheduled one of the two appointments for next year. Very highly recommended, especially if you want anything blonde!
I haven’t had a haircut in 24 months. I always delay haircuts because I’ve had poor experiences and honestly feel very frustrated with my fine and flat hair. Leaving Stylists chairs in the past has left me with clean cut ends but not hair that made me feel like “wow I got my hair cut.” I’m 25, so I’ve had my fair share of hair cuts, at wonderful salons. My stylist at PENZONE, Spencer, treated me kindly, made me feel comfortable and honestly was a pure joy to talk to. On top of all that he was gentle with my hair, especially the blow dry. I’ve never had someone keep the hair out of my eyes and face. He shows great detail and care in his works.I left feeling pleased with my hair cut/style, and I’m excited to come back. I’ve never been excited to come back for another hair cut.Spencer, thank you thank you thank you. I won’t wait 24 months before I see you for my second hair cut.
Vanessa is amazing! I am always beyond happy with my hair after visiting her. The atmosphere is calm and inviting. Definitely recommend!
First time at Penzone Salon & Spa and it did not disappoint! Celeste was my hair stylist this morning and she was absolutely fantastic! Not only was she super friendly but she took the time to make sure my haircut was exactly what I wanted. Will definitely be coming back!
First time going to this location, i have been a customer for years now and been to many locations in Columbus but this specific location is the worst! I went in for hair style and from the website choices I chose the blowout option cause it mentioned it included flat iron as well. The stylist seemed to have hard time with my curly hair and did a blowout to leave my hair not styled. I asked her if she would use the flat iron and she said it’s not included with the service but offered to do a quick touch up. At the end she told me especially with curly hair I should choose a different service. I don’t understand why is the service different for someone with curly hair than straight. Very disappointed and not looking to go to this location again. The stylist was quite the whole time, did not offer water or drinks, very unusual for Penzone services.
My Daughters hair is super curly. W need an experienced curly hairstylist to do her hair. Spencer was amazing with Autumn and taught me how to handle her hair properly. We do owe him alot of credit for our first time experience in getting her hair cut professionally.Thank you so very much, we do greatly appreciate everything
Always get a great haircut and leave feeling great! Ive been seeing hair designer Celeste for 10 years now, and I always look forward to my visit! I get a great haircut while I drink on coffee or another beverage. They have a great waiting area so its comfortable while getting hair processed. So glad to have found this salon.
Usually I go here and leave pretty happy or with my hair as it stays nice for the next day or two, but this time I had Hunter who had never cut my hair before. She knew exactly what I wanted and I left about a week ago and still receive compliments how how nicely layered my hair is. I also have problems with leave in conditioners or heat protectants and she recommended one that I have been using for the past week that has left my hair feeling so great. She is also great with conversations, I felt comfortable talking to her, and she was great at understanding what my hair needed. I have never been so happy with my hair before. I would definitely recommend her for anyone who has long hair that needs layered or anyone that needs recommendations on what products to use (or anyone that wants to receive compliments on their hair for weeks!).
I will never go back. Horrible service. My hair is fried. I dont know if it was a new worker but the other worker that was behind where i was kept telling her client she was ruining my hair(talking about to lady doing my hair) idk if they didnt like each other but she disnt do anything to help just continued with her customer and she was right. Tge worker fried my hair. I can harldy evan brush it without it knotting up because of how fried it is. Horrible service. Would of been better off at great clips.
I made an appointment with Vanessa…my short hair needed re-styling. She was amazing! Very patient as to what I was hoping for. My hair is exactly what I wanted…not a lot of time to make it look good. I was surprised by my daughter who booked a signature pedi for me after the haircut…very nice!! Loona was professional and very pleasant. The pedi was a great treat. I’m from out of town but will return soon!!
Loved my first experience there my hair looks great and loved the vibe
I understand cancelation fees, but Penzone has very customer-unfriendly policies in place. Charged me $122 for a service I didnt get. I was ill, and I received no contact or reminder at all. No product was used, no labor was used, yet they charged me for the full service. I am a long-time customer, and Ill never be back.
Had a fantastic time with Celeste! I came in for a haircut and fresh look after quite a while since my last trim. She listened to the style I wanted and perfectly brought it to life! The experience overall was super relaxing and exactly the type of pampering that I was hoping for. She made me feel so welcomed, and I left positively glowing. Cant wait to be back!
Ive gone here a few times recently after spending the past several years cutting my own hair. I have very fine and thin hair, and no hair stylist ever knew how to cut it. Also, I like to keep my hair very low maintenance. I would usually end up with layers that I hated or bangs that never looked quite right. Here, Jayme gets me! She doesnt try to talk me into cuts that I know wont look right. Finally I have found my hair stylist and I couldnt be happier!
Was greeted by the stylist, Jasmine. Lovely young lady who began the appointment with one of the most important steps, my consultation. This was my first appointment with Jasmine. She didn’t know me or my lifestyle so she knew nothing about my hair. I was thrilled to be having the conversation. I had a few screenshots of what I liked. She asked me to “pick one”, so I chose one and she began. Trust me she had her work cut out for her ( no pun intended). I had visited another salon 3 months prior to this appointment and that cut and style didn’t go so well. Jasmine was engaging, professional, pleasant, and best of all AMAZING! I will most definitely be scheduling my next appointment with Jasmine in July!
I am disappointed in Penzone and will be moving on to a different salon. I have been going to the same hairstylist for years, and always got emails when she moved up a tier, changed locations etc. However, this week, I went to go book my normal appointment with her, and found out through the booking website that she no longer works there. That’s great for her, but Penzone didnt even think to email her clients that their stylist was gone? After a 30 minute hold on the phone, I tried the recommended “text to book” option. I was connected to a representative and told that another stylist was working on trying to take my old stylist’s clients, and that I could book with her. I quickly responded letting the rep know that I was fine with that, and asked about her availability. The representative never texted me back, even after I texted back hours later to follow up.Paired with previous experiences with some scheduling errors in the past, I’ve decided to go somewhere else with better booking.
First curly girl haircut with Brittany she did a great job listening to the challenges with my hair. She did an amazing job. She even double checked ingredients in the products for allergens that would affect my family. Second I went to see Suzanne for a quick wax (I had accidentally booked a smaller window then allotted.) She was very kind and did a fantastic job making sure my brows still looked natural. Then finally I went to Siri for a premier manicure. Shes really nice and made sure I was going to be happy with regular polish before she started. She made sure to take her time. I really appreciated all three of them for listening and asking questions. Thank you for your hospitality.
My wife and I have now gone to this salon at Gahanna/New Albany twice. Our stylist both times was Desiree. She deserves more than the allowed 5 stars for her service. After the first visit we left on vacation and everyone commented on my wife’s cut. After today’s visit we had a dentist appointment and again my wife received compliments on her cut and color. My dentist’s wife even wanted to know where and who did her hair and we shared with her the Penzone’s location and stylist. We will always recommend Desiree.
My stylist was Kemarie and she is by far the best stylist Ive ever had. She was totally honest with me about my hair, she was very personable and fun. Ive never had someone ask what my hair goals were so when she did i was super happy I picked her to be my stylist. I typically never set up appointments to return but this time I did because I actually feel like Im in good hands. I will be highly recommendrec her to friends and family. Also the salon itself is beautiful and calm. All around great experience.
I was referred to this hair salon after the initial salon I chose could not do the color I wanted. I setup a consultation for myself and my daughter with a stylist. The consultation, I thought, went fine. However, I received a phone call 3 days before our appointment stating the stylist was uncomfortable doing these services due to the chosen hair color. (My daughter and I have dark curly hair.) This was noted both in the notes prior to the consultation and our hair was looked at during the consultation. I was given the excuse that the owner was not in the office and therefore could not notify me any sooner than what she did. My consultation was about two weeks prior to the appointment date. The way this situation was handled was unprofessional, not to mention I am left wondering if the reason my hair was not able to done was due to the lack of experience the stylist has with hair on women of color. This was an awful experience and I will not be back.
I had been going to Penzones for years. I got Hair Extensions. Last time I went which was maybe 6-8 months ago I had then removed. I received a cute cut but the blonde along my hairline was extremely bright ( almost as if it were purposefully done) I wasn’t real happy but I brushed it off as I had been seeing the same woman for years. Fast forward to last week, I called on Friday, as I had a change of heart wanting the extensions back, Beth told me they were unable to order them on that day for some reason and the hairdresser was with someone else at the time and unable to do my paperwork, she said she would call early the next week to put order in( not to mention she pretty rude and condescending while rushing me off phone). Today is one week from then and I never received a call. It’s almost as if they do not want me coming back there for whatever reason. Not a good way to handle someone that has spent well over 150,000 in that establishment. I called Kenneth’s and they ordered hair same day of consultation, and she put me right in for install 5 days later on her day off! I told her not to do that but she insisted it was fine. That is how you treat a client ! I felt like I was a bother to them or that they were doing me a favor by allowing me in their salon. No thanks. I will definitely be staying away for future services, and continue with Kenneths.
MUST GO HERE! ADRIENNE (hair) AND ANGELA (makeup) ROCK!!I went here for my hair and makeup for the day of my wedding. The environment is so amazing and they have a coffee bar!! The customer service is incredible. Adrienne did my hair and she was amazing and super nice. Angela did my makeup and she was so sweet and talented. Both ladies did what I wanted and were just absolutely amazing people. Super professional and talented. I HIGHLY recommend and would definitely go back.
I use the Dublin and New Albany salons. I have had both hair and nail services and I’m never disappointed! When I need a gift I love using their gift cards and they always have fun jewelry on site that I like to add with the gift card. Makes shopping for a gift super easy. They have great staff and I’m never unable to get in with someone when I need to. I don’t always use the same people for my services because of my hectic schedule I usually have to go at the last minute and the staff never make me feel bad for going to other members. They are super understanding. Totally recommend this Company!
I have been going to this PENZONE location for 18 years and have been blessed to have the same spectacular stylist, Janet Woda, all this time. I could not ask for better service. When they reopened, their safety precautions, the cleanliness of the salon, everything they did to make you feel safe were superior! I call this salon my slice of heaven. You go in to someone pleasantly greeting you, you can sip on a beverage and really relax while you get your service done. No loud noises. No distractions. Just peace and calm. That’s why I keep coming back!
Had Spencer as my stylist. He was great! Did what I asked and had plenty on convo for a fellow stylist. I’d been going to the same stylist for 12 years and moved from Texas to Ohio. Was terrified to get my hair cut from a different person. 5 stars! Will be back! Thank You Spencer!
I paid for 2 services this past Friday- haircut and style and Manicure.I gave it a 4/5 experience becausea) Violet did a great job on my long curly hair! I had not had a haircut in such a long time (since December of last year maybe?) and Violet new exactly what I wanted. My hair looks healthier now. I will return back for sure.b) My manicure peeled off after 2 days. And my cuticles on my nails were not evenly trim and polished.
Jordan was fantastic. My hair looked amazing when she was done. However, the price was ONE HUNDRED dollars more than I was used to for the same service. The girls I checked out with were perplexed and couldn’t explain it. This was my first experience with the Gahanna salon. My stylist of 4 years retired from the Dublin location. I have 2 gift certificates, and if the price stays the same, I will move on to a more affordable salon. It’s not right that all of a sudden I’m paying $100 more. That is not good customer service.
I was seen for a signature facial with Ruby and she was amazing. Thank you so much Ruby!I tried to call the salon immediately after paying, leaving and was on hold for 20 mins. I was trying to give some customer service advice to the young girls penzone has ending their customers experience and are really the very last line of service to their customers. These girls are extremely young and I am assuming this is one of their very first jobs so I understand they are learning. There were two older women checking out and paying at the same time as me and I didn’t pay attention to what the situation was except for the fact the 3-4 girls at the counter were speaking about them in front of me and another customer as we were proceeding to check out, as simply as I can put it, in not a very kind nor respectful manor. I feel we need to help support this younger generation in their first jobs but also guide them in respect in kindness. That’s all!
I’ve been very happy with the services that I’ve had with Penzone. I’ve been going there for years and recently had a bad experience that I was truly surprised with. First, the service that I needed wasn’t on the website so I had to text the stylist for the cost and to set up an appointment. Unfortunately, she told me the wrong amount and I had to pay $45 more. This could have been prevented if it was on the website. Second, after the the procedure I noticed that she went outside the lines and now I have 2 permanent lines on my face that is unacceptable. When I wanted to talk and ask how to handle this the front desk reception basically told me no that I couldn’t speak with her and ignored me while I stood at the desk. I had to ask again after 5 minutes of them ignoring me and taking other customers. Finally, I reached out to the customer service on the website twice and still no one reached out. So now I’m leaving a review because no one has contacted me. Truly disappointed after going there for years.
After years of searching for a hair stylist who knows my needs, I can say I finally found one! Adrienne (stylist level) was the best stylist Ive ever had. She knew EXACTLY what I was asking for! She was so friendly and very informative about products for my hair.Dallas was the best! She was friendly, personable and she recommended my nail color - since then Ive received nothing but compliments!& last but not least, Eva - aesthetician. She was friendly, efficient and fast!! My brows look amazing.I love this location and I will be returning!!
I was very disappointed in my pedicure service today. Rose was the name of my professional. She informed me that she was new to the salon, but that she had been doing nails for decades. Every aspect of the pedicure needed work. The worst part was the way she prepped my nails and the painting. She did a very poor job of keeping paint off my skin and did not clean up any of her sloppiness. I expected a better experience all around for the price and I absolutely did not get that.
Much like another person said, the gals at the front desk weren’t too overzealous to see my bridal party and I coming — we weren’t greeted, just eyed up and down, and just decided to intuitively go to a kiosk to check-in. Since there wasn’t a ton of space, we sat at a bench near the restrooms until we could find a little more space. (There were 3 of us, not in the way, sitting on this bench.) A stylist came out, eyed us up and down and kept walking.Great.Everything was going well until I was pulled for makeup. I asked for natural look and got a very dramatic eye shadow and the foundation was a shade or three darker than my natural color. While my makeup was being done, my hairstylist seemed to be having a day as she impatiently asked when the makeup artist was going to be finished. I asked my artist if it so happened to be the same gal who was eying us, and low and behold, it was. I asked the makeup artist I would love it if she would look into seeing if there was someone else. She did, and there wasn’t — completely understandable! It was worth a shot, right?I had a bridesmaid walk back with me, and told my hairstylist I wanted a blowout. Lucious volume, big hair, gorgeous. She just curled the ends of my hair, no volume, and sent me on my way.Maybe it was a rough day? I understand with it being a Saturday, and it wasn’t just my bridal party there either. Plus COVID, I’m sure they were short staffed too.Mind you, this was just my experience. Perspective clients may have better luck!**Update**I reached out to the Guest Services team who called back and apologized for the experience. The gal offered to give me a refund for the hair services, and I declined. I mentioned I didn’t do a trial with either of the gals and understand with COVID it may have just been an off day.
I’ve been a client of the penzone salons since I moved to Columbus 5 years ago. I overlooked several poor experiences because I felt the quality overall was worth it. Today, however, will be my last time as a patron here. i waited over 20 minutes past when my apt was scheduled (I arrived ten minutes early so was there a total of 30 minutes and was greeted, checked in, and told my stylist would be down in 1 minute). I asked the front desk how much longer since my six month old was asleep in her stroller and knew I was on limited times. She stated “oh she’s been running late all day. Let me check”. This was the same one who checked me in 30 minutes earlier, saying it would be one minute. She came down and said it would be about five more minutes (no apology still). Even then, I smiled and said no problem. I heard her whisper to the manager and assumed she was telling her about the delay since she made her way over to me. Instead she said “hi. I see you have your daughter here and typically, that’s fine but since you’re also getting a spa treatment we don’t allow children unattended”. I clarified that there was some confusion since I was just getting a cut—no spa treatment and she backtracked and asked “well can someone provide childcare for you?”....I was embarrassed and mad all at once. My sister had gotten her hair done recently with her baby and it was no problem AND more importantly why wasn’t this told to me nearly 35 minutes earlier when I checked in.I will not be making any future appointments here—not because of the error (it’s happened before here and I’ve overlooked it since mistakes happen) but rather because of the cold and unapologetic nature of their response. As a new mom, it look a lot of arranging for me to make this appointment and as a company that endorses female empowerment and costumer-led service, there is a significant disconnect in how this is carried out.
I started getting my nails done by Nancy and will never go anywhere else. They look great every time! Nancy pays close attention to every last detail and makes sure my nails are perfect and exactly what I want. I’ve noticed that both the acrylic nails themselves and polish holds up longer than any other salon I have ever been to as well. (And I am pretty rough with my nails!) If you’re thinking of getting your nails done at this salon I highly recommend going to Nancy!
I have been a happy customer for several years. Kim (Gahanna/New Albany location) has been cutting my hair for quite awhile and Ive always been very pleased. She is truly an artist and a perfectionist. Ive gotten facials and pedicures over the years and am always happy when I leave. I have made a decision to move to Florida soon and I will truly miss this salon, but mostly Kim! She is such a sweetheart and an amazing artist with scissors!
This used to be a beautiful salon filled with quality employees. It used to be a great experience that I definitely paid top dollar for.The salon is looking pretty old and run down. My facial was just so, so. The woman was very rough with the massage and really didnt work on my face all that much except to put on all kinds of creams only to turn right around and wipe them off.My pedicure was a little better. But both people seemed to be rushing through my service. I could not say I got the pampering I was looking forward to.
This was my first time visiting Penzone Salon and it was absolutely perfect. The building was clean, comfortable, and nice. Checking in was a breeze. I had my long hair cut, colored, and styled by Celeste. She was absolutely amazing, personable, professional and extremely talented. Celeste made my experience super memorable and fun. She made this salon experience feel more like a girls day out (as opposed to what could have felt like a very long and boring experience). As a mom, these moments have become more on the rare side for me and I really appreciate them even more so now.It had been at least 2+ years since having my hair done professionally. I walked in with very minimal direction, but Celeste provided exactly what I was looking for. Caramel balayage/highlights, layers for volume/dimension, and just an overall fresh new look. She really nailed it and I loved it so much. My daughter, hubby, parents, friends loved the work Celeste did. I left the salon feeling like a new lady. So a really big thank you to Celeste & Penzone. I really hope to be back soon. 🥳
I’ve been going to the New Albany/Gahanna location for a few years now. I see Celeste for my hair cuts and color and she is beyond amazing! I always leave feeling relaxed and my hair always looks and feels great! I love the atmosphere and everyone is so professional and courteous. I have an appointment next week and can’t wait—it’ll be the best part of my week I’m sure!
Lydia in the spa was amazing. She listened to exactly what I wanted for my brows and made my lashes look dark and beautiful. She was very sweet as well! Thanks😊
I was received by a very kind guy at the door. The salon is big and very clean, although too cold for me... I like it that they are taking measures against covid such as requiring face masks and they are taking your temperature when you arrive. A negative thing was that I had to wait 25 minutes before being attended. I suppose this does not often happen, so I just probably had bad luck, although I never didnt completely understand what happened, the reason of the delay. My stylist was very kind and she did a good job. I love my haircut, it is very professional. It was my first time there, and I think I will return again.
I’m new to the area after years of having been spoiled with my previous stylist, so it was a little scary to “blind book.” My hair is icy blonde after years of lightening and a very short, layered undercut. Having decided to grow it out, I reached a very weird phase of the grow out and needed dimension to my color, and a good set trim to “hide” the awkward phase. I was really nervous and didn’t have a strong sense of what I wanted- just what my end goals were. I booked with Molly and she really did a great job!!! She was very honest and managed my expectations - and my tendency to be impulsively dramatic with my hair :).She was neat and timely, was honest and clear on expectations. I thought my hair looked great when I left but after a day “living in it” - I love it. It really brought health and dimension to the look, and I appreciate her approach so much. I’ll definitely be back to book with Molly!
Very classy place and Debbie Penzone goes out of her way to talk to and make all the guests of the salon feel welcome and at home. It was my grandsons first hair cut and a wonderful experience. Spencer was a rock star stylist!
My stylist is Penny and she is fantastic! Very intuitive, friendly and easy to talk with. I feel like she goes out of her way to make it the best possible experience from her talent with cut / color / style as well as making her client feel important and listened to. Thats why I keep coming back!
My review is specifically directed at the outstanding service provided by my nail professional, Nancy. I am a nail biter with sensitive, peeling cuticles, and with Nancy, I was never at any point uncomfortable. I got an acrylic full set done for a special event, and my nails feel strong but perfectly comfortable - not to mention they are gorgeous. Please see Nancy and give her all the praise!
I had broken up with my previous hair stylist due to his hours of operation (Tuesday through Friday days only). After weeks of looking at various websites and researching stylists, looking at pictures of their work, I finally made the leap and set up an appointment with Clair in Gahanna. I intentionally waited before rating/posting because I wanted to live with it before providing my feedback. Clair is absolutely amazing! She did a great job with my color and my cut! Additionally, she just couldn’t be any nicer! I’ve already booked my next appointment!
This is the absolute WORST salon I have ever had to deal with. The customer service is atrocious. Six appointments in a row and every appointment I’ve had there, they texted me the day off and cancelled. You could not pay me a billion dollars to ever have to deal with this place ever again. They don’t care about their customers and are totally fine with repeatedly cancelling. They simply don’t care!
I came here for a blowout and a manicure. I loved the nail tech Dallas, she was amazing and gave me exactly what I wanted. However the stylist that gave me the blowout used her heat on 450 degrees on my thin hair. It was too much and my hair smelled burnt and it definitely dried out the ends of my hair a lot. However, the HR team here is great the reached out to me and made it right. They were very thorough and made sure I had a great experience my second time.
Christine and Embrey were so completely wonderful!! I will ask for Embrey every time now and there will definitely be a next time soon! My daughter wanted a massage as a birthday gift but didn’t want to go alone. Upon her insistence I joined her. 🙂 SO GLAD SHE INSISTED. We both got a fabulous spa treatment from the moment we walked in. Excellent one hour massage was worth every penny. The environment was soothing and relaxing, the staff was courteous, friendly, prompt (very important!!,) and so professional. Checkout was a bit confusing because the cashier made it so. That’s my only negative response was paying and leaving the tip using my card should’ve been simple. He totally confused the situation.
Went in for a facial- which was only my second facial, my first being in Stockholm at a popular hotel. The PENZONE facial was nice- but I did miss the European spa experience of having a dipping pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, etc. I did schedule more services and will be going back. I will say it was much easier for me to call in to book an appointment than to book on their app or even in person (the front desk was not helpful) - especially when you need to stack services (meaning, I wanted a mani, pedi, facial and eyebrow arch)
People leave this place in tears feeling like less. Skinny folks be weight shaming. Everyone is beautiful, before your services, and just sad when they leave every time looking in the mirror to be reminded of your staff.
Charles PENZONE is one above the rest. Price tag is high but the service you receive shows every bit and you leave feeling amazing. I have been coming to this salon since I was 12yrs old and now am 34. I will never go anywhere else. I’m loyal to my hair lady (Kay) who is the best ever. Alicia did my and my daughter eyebrows. She’s is very professional and efficient. However yesterday when checking out it was very confusing since I paid with a gift card. I only bought the gift card because of this box they had (which is all samples) when I made the appointment the lady said you can stop in the salon and get your box there since it won’t arrive before Xmas. The girls wouldn’t let me use the gift card for tip (I was not aware I couldn’t do that and put the extra money on there for that purpose) then when I asked for the box she handed it to me after I told her what I was told, then another girl came and said you didn’t purchase the card in the salon so your box will be delivered. I said not before Xmas so I need it as a gift, she then gave it to me reluctantly and I said do you need to make notes in my account cause I took these so they don’t mail mine. She said nope your good to go. As I was putting the tip that I had to use my CC for they were whispering about me. I brushed it off. About 10 min after I left the manger called and said I needed to bring the boxes back cause mine were mailed already. I said then why couldn’t they have looked that up if you clearly could. Why was this not taken care of while I was there. I had to make a trip all the way back out of my way to give them the box of samples. I wasn’t happy and told her she needed to make sure everyone was aware to check this before I left and to tell the scheduler not to tell customers this. I left very confused after I was in a good mood from being pampered, and thought it was going to be a great day! Not a way I’d like to leave in the future. I’m now aware of the GC and not being able to use as a tip so I will not load extra money on it.
I am not pleased with how this is being handled. Beth was not able to help, by me coming in for a consultation how is that going to help. I just wanted my money return for the hair I paid for. I know that Mia the stylist charged me over the price. My hair was ruined, damaged. Do not think that is a lot to ask for, I expressed my concerns to the salon by voicemail and to the stylist any chance I got, also when the stylist saw me in May 2019.Very unprofessional that Beth says well we did not get any voicemails and the stylist Mia says she did not get any concerns from me. I am confident in what I expressed and to not have customer is always right is wrong, i can not believe the salon is ran this way. I am so unhappy with how the salon director Beth is not accommodating to my needs. She was not even considering to help me, her answer was we cannot do a refund. She just made the final decision on one conversation with me. I asked to speak to someone else higher than Beth, basically no one higher. Do not go here, customer is not right at this name salon CHARLES PENZONE.You are wrong, you did not reach to help me, what is a consultation going to do for me. Not a dam thing. My hair was ruined by the keratin bond extensions which is glued to your real hair, the stylist should of suggested tape in or micro beads. So disappointed.
I really needed my hair fixed was not looking good,This was my first time ever being in penzone salon , I was in the New Albany shop , Everyone is very friendly polite and a beautiful atmosphere, Anita colored and cut my hair, Very sweet nice lady that no’s what she is doing with hair and colors, I highly recommend and appreciate her , I will be back because she is very good and nice person, also listens to your wants and gives great advice, all my future appointments will be with her ,she is great I’m very happy
Facial was nice. Suzanne was great. Pedicure was cool but a bit costly with nothing special to justify it.Got my my makeup done and it was HORRIBLE. The woman was nice but it felt like she rushed my face, threw bright pink blush all over my cheeks and didnt even shape my brows with pencil or fill them properly. Will probably return for a facial but Ill never let anyone in there do my makeup again.
I’ve been going to this specific Charles Penzone location for years and haven’t ever really had any major problems with it. However, every time I’ve been the quality seems to decline. This past visit all I came for was a simple haircut, you would assume this means they will cut your hair. That wasn’t the case, I specified what I wanted and the stylist attempted to complete it but the haircut itself was awful. You could clearly see where she failed to blend lengths which was absolutely awful. The top she said she cut but I think she took off maybe 3 mm. I went in with the expectation that it was going to take 45 min and came out in under 15. I really like the place but every time I’ve left more and more disappointed. Think less about getting things done and more about the quality of work. I’m angry that I let myself pay money for the last haircut. I’ll be going somewhere else maybe another location or a different salon all together.
This is a great place! It’s clean, the staff is friendly and they have great hairstylists. Desiree is my stylist and she does a wonderful job. I have been going to her for years and have seen her do all different hair types. She is a great addition to the Penzone team!
I have always been very happy with the facials here, they do a amazing job and I will return for a facial. However, I went in for a haircut last month and it was the worst haircut I have ever gotten. The stylist was super nice and sweet, she wanted to do a dry cut, which I am not in favor of. She did wash it and cut it wet, but my hair is so uneven, you can clearly see how bad it is. All I asked for was a trim and layers. Layers are not blended at all, and my hair looks like zig-zag :( not sure if it was my bad luck, but i am not happy at all.
I came in with a horrible haircut from a previous hairstylist, Kemarie was absolutely the best hairdresser I’ve been to in awhile. She was knowledgeable with my curly textured hair, gave me tips on how to care of it, very kind and professional and did an amazing job fixing my hair. I walked out feeling beautiful and confident. Do yourself a favor and book her! I will definitely be coming back. Thank you again Kemarie!!!! 10 out of 10.
I love this place!! Spencer was AMAZING!! My hair is EXACTLY what we discussed, and I love it! I’ll definitely be heading back to her. The salon is so gorgeous, and I love that there is coffee, infused fruit water, and a full bar available for whatever you’re craving!
Let me first say that I have loved coming here for many years. My daughter came from Pittsburgh to begin our Mother’s Day celebration. We came through the front door and said Hi! We’re here!! The employee walking by did not even look at us. She simply said “self check in” and continued walking. When the kiosk didn’t work for us we asked for assistance. She asked for our names from the bar area, but did not tell us if she checked us in. We waited, then finally asked. This individual spent her time chatting with a coworker. My facial with Ruby was amazing, but our unpleasant arrival and treatment by this employee certainly but a damper on our Mother’s Day celebration. Your customers will miss the warm friendly greeting always provided at this location in the past. I wonder if the pros of a kiosk will outweigh the cons?
Wow. Just had a fantastic massage from Kristina. I had never had hot stones before but have always wanted to try them - they were amazing. Kristina went over and above to take care of my sore spots. She used the perfect amount of pressure. I went in with pain and tons of knots and left with zero pain and zero knots. I will return very soon!
I found Lauren Dehart’s information on a FB page saying she worked at Penzone’s I took a chance and booked a style and color - both were fantastic. I went back for a highlight and it’s honestly the best I’ve ever had - the colors are exactly what I wanted. First time walking out of a salon truly excited about my hair color.
Sydney Kulow is the light of my life! In addition to her cutting-edge hair/color expertise, she and I connect on so many levels. My time with her is truly the highlight of any week; she truly makes me feel like Im her only client. I also LOVE the addition to the adult beverages! I continue to be a very satisfied customer!
Lily did an awesome job with my color touch up and trim! Will definitely be scheduling my next appointment with her!
Ive been client for many years but Ill be changing Salons. Called today to make an appt and was told that they require my credit card on file so they can charge me if I dont show up for the appt. Ive never missed an appointment and very much disagree with this policy.
Desiree is amazing! I tend to know exactly what I want, but Im not good at explaining things. Somehow, she was able to perfectly create just what I was thinking. Cameron was friendly, upbeat & so knowledgeable about the products when she was checking me out. She really makes you feel comfortable like youre talking to a friend youve known for years. I will definitely be recommending Penzone to all of my friends!
Brittany was WONDERFUL! I have multi-textured hair, and not many stylists can do my hair properly, so Ive been doing it myself for years; however, Brittany did! She was very kind and suggested the perfect cut, style, and solutions for me! Ill definitely see her again -- and next time, for color or highlighting! Thank you, Brittany!
Love my hair stylist! Its a big place, but everyone treats you well. And by the way-- apparently this is an edit from a review I left 4 years ago. I really did pay a lot of money for a really bad back massage from there. Yes, 4 years ago and I swore that place off until I found out about their talented hair staff. So my opinion is a lot better now. Would I get a massage? Maybe not so much.
I had an appointment at their salon and was not informed that that salon closed down and they moved to a new location. That made me late for my appointment and was refused to be seen. I took off work early to get to this hair appointment. I found the salon CO-Director “Dustin Burke” uncaring about my situation. I have been coming to the salon for years. I asked the CO-Director “Dustin Burke” why I could not have been given a call or something to let me know they moved to a new location and he told me they have been short staffed, yet workers were standing around doing nothing when I walked in. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. “F“ RATING.
Easy and fast booking online. Laken took me right back to her station as soon as I arrived. My manicure was very relaxing with warm towels. Laken was excellent. She made sure I was comfortable and that she was shaping my nails the way I wanted them. Definitely booking my next appt at Gahanna with Laken!
I went to Penzones yesterday for a basic hair cut and Express manicure. Overall I would rate the experience as 3 stars. Heres why:ProsReceived a 25% off coupon for hair services via email, which got me in the door! As for the services, both the hair stylist and manicurist were professional, friendly and genuine. They were down to earth and seemed like they really enjoyed working for this company. My hair cut looks pretty good and the manicure is holding up nicely.ConsI didnt care for the amount of hair product used when styling. My hair is very fine and I felt like the products used were too heavy and weighted my hair down. In the future, I will ask to go light on the hair product. As for the manicure, is was super basic. I was hoping for cuticle trimming or a hand massage but that wasnt included in the Express option. My fault for not reading the description closer. All in all, it was a good experience but I still really like Kenneths over Penzones, thats just me being perfectly honest. Im all about saving money though, so if I receive more coupons Im willing to try out more services at Penzones.
I have gone to Brittany at Penzone/Gahanna three times trying to go lighter, she said that it will take a few sessions but we will get there, at the 3rd coloring, I showed her a picture told her I wanted to keep my roots dark because I wanted to grow out the Balayage but wanted to keep the already highlighted hair blonde and add pops of baby lights to add dimension, I even showed her a picture, told her how much I love the lighter color framing my face. Well, I now have black hair with a few pops of caramel highlights, my hair did not even look close to the picture, she said I think you wanted to go darker! No I didnt! I wanted my roots to stay dark not to completely dye my hair black. She also got annoyed when I mentioned that in our last coloring session my hair felt a little rough and I had to treat it to get it back to being soft ( I was not offending her work was just telling her what happened) well she got really passive aggressive and literally left my hair in a puff ball, and didnt smoothed it out at all. Also, their pricing is according to how they feel that day and not consistent, I called to get the breakdown of the service and have to wait until Tuesday for an answer. I paid over $600 in three session to go lighter and now have black hair, I literally feel heartbroken. When you are paying hundreds of dollars for a service you expect to get what you ask for, I understand if my hair was unhealthy and needed to be tone darker to cover the damage but it was not, she even said my hair is super healthy. At this point, I am done coming to this salon and they should have a training session on professionalism, I have enough challenges in life and dont need my hair stylist to get all passive aggressive on a simple comment.
It was an okay pedicure. The description states consult, which did not happen. She did not discuss the length of the toenails before she clipped them extremely short. The description also states hot stones to be applied, I did not see any stones. She did apply various lotions, but did not massage my feet or calves. Polish was on the cuticle which were not trimmed. The wax foot bag leaked in the steamer and became too hot. She did take it off my foot and cooled it down, but got wax on her jeans and shoes ( she was not happy about that). When we were finished she handed me her business card and I had to ask her where to pay. Anyway, I overpaid for a custom pedicure.
I didnt want to share this online (I was going to send a private email) but the salon sent a link to the rate and review site.I am a long time client of the Penzone salon in Gahanna. I used to get my hair colored there (I go to another place now for specific reasons regarding the colorist I used to see) but go for regular blow outs, styling, and massages. The massage therapists are excellent and the rooms are quiet, and nicely appointed. The blow-outs are professional and I feel good when I leave.Unfortunately, I decided to add pedicures for my friend and I after our massage and facial. I called weeks ago to book the appointments and specifically asked that we be able to sit next to each other because we get to see each other twice a year and she was in from North Carolina. Not only could we not sit together, the pedicure chairs are in a closet space on the main floor, BOTH of our chairs were broken and extremely uncomfortable. The walls and floor were dirty, the arms of the chairs were scratched to pieces. I dont have time to even get close to explaining how embarrassed and upset I was. The technician was polite but the gel removal process took a full 45 minutes and she used a dental pick to tuck the bandages (?) in around my toes. She was poking my skin with a sharp tool to do this. I did mention this a few times and she was careful but Ive NEVER seen this technique used before. The water got cold, the hot towels got cold. It was a poor experience all around. A manager needs to sit in the chairs, look at the room, and sample the service because it is beneath the Penzone name. There are 100s of beautiful spas in Columbus where we could have gotten a professional, relaxing, uplifting pedicures, in luxurious surroundings (or at least clean) for much less cost. The person who checked me out was compassionate, apologized, and did not charge me for my pedicure. That was good because even after an hour, the technician hadnt gotten close to the painting stage and we had lunch reservations so I left without paint. I still tipped everyone 20% for all services (massage, facial, her pedicure, eyebrow waxing).PLEASE either discontinue the pedicure service or attend to the details. My friend was polite about it but I could tell she was very disappointed and wondered why I chose the location.
I was extremely unimpressed with the services I received this past weekend. Multiple issues with quality of work and management not allowing my 6 year old daughter to be with me during my hair appt for a bridal party, but yet allowed another client to have their adult daughter or friend present for theirs. I could go on but I emailed the company and have yet to hear back. Ive never been more frustrated.
Charles Penzone is the absolute worst. My sisters wedding was on 8/15/15 and my wedding is coming up on 9/26/15. I came into the Polaris salon on 8/1/15 for a trim prior to my sisters wedding, and unfortunately because my stylist left, they placed me with Monique. This girl *ruined* my hair. She cut off 6 and completely changed the shape of my cut. I called the manager (Brigid?) and she was very nice and sympathetic and booked me with Bella to fix it. Bella was able to blend the awful, choppy, uneven haircut, but I was still forced to change my wedding hair due to the much shorter length. Now this experience made me a bit nervous because I had already booked my sisters bridal party at the Gahanna salon for 8/15, but I decided not to let my experience with Monique get me down, and gave them the benefit of the doubt. What a mistake! They did the absolute worst job Ive ever seen on 3 out of 5 members of our bridal party. When we left the salon the entire bridal party was visibly upset and the bride was in tears, yet their guest service reps literally just stared at us as we tried to figure out what to do and finally just walked out. I sent them an email and was contacted by their hair manager (Beth?) who really couldnt have cared less. I offered to show her pictures of the hair so she could see for herself, but she had such an attitude and just did not care at all. She didnt even apologize for the fact that our hair looked horrendous or that they overcharged the mother of the bride. She offered us free services as compensation, including free styling for my wedding on 9/26 and I said absolutely not! They completely destroyed my haircut 7 weeks before my wedding, we couldnt trust them with doing our bridesmaids hair, why in the world would I want any other services from them? Especially for my wedding?? I am obviously never ever going there or recommending Charles Penzone to anyone ever again. I am completely heartbroken over what theyve done.
I had a wonderful experience at Penzone (Gahanna) yesterday. Eden was friendly and professional, but more importantly, I absolutely love my hair! She listened to what I wanted and even went with me to explain which products I could purchase and use at home to keep the perfect look. Your salon is beautiful and I can’t wait to return.
Couldnt have been MORE disappointed in the new Penzone salon. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appt. Not ONE of the 6 people standing around a desk said a word to me. I checked myself in and proceeded to amble around waiting.15 minutes AFTER my appt time, no one had still said a word; no update was given about my stylist (Sasha) and I walked out STILL without a word. Now an hour later and no one has even called to see why I left (should have seen that I checked in, right?).Ill be going to Kenneths tmw.
Less than an hour before my appointment they called. I couldnt answer and they didnt leave a voicemail. When I went to the website I saw that they had changed my appointment time (2 1/2 hours later) to a time when Im not available. They had no other times available that did work and because it was before they open, I couldnt reach anyone on the phone. Their last txt meassage (to confirm) still had the original appt time and I never got a txt about the change.
There are so many things that go in to finding a great stylist for me. The first for me is understanding what Ive found I really like in color and what I just wont have. The second huge consideration for me is accessibility, scheduling, and so important, accessibility of the salon and surrounding area, including parking. As we all know there are places in Columbus where it is almost impossible to do.I called in and spoke with Danielle in your scheduling center and asked her to suggest someone who could do a great blonde, not spend a small fortune and one of salons where there was a dedicated parking lot. I was willing to go anywhere within the Penzone family of salons if I could find that combination. Danielle suggested Phoebe at Gahanna/New Albany and can I just say, wow. She actually took the time to actively listen and give her professional opinion. What a breath of fresh air and confidence! She interacted well, just enough but not too much. Asked great questions about my lifestyle and needs, and I got exactly what I wanted and more. Ive been complimented multiple times on the cut and color, and asked where I got it done. Ive not hesitated to tell them about Phoebe. Its wonderful to look forward to going to a salon and a stylist again. Stellar, just stellar.
Tracee is amazing! She listened to my hair needs and transformed my locks beyond my expectations. She really understands hair and is a pleasure to be around. Ive been going to Charles Penzone in Polaris for years and decided to try the Gahanna/New Albany location. Its beautiful and they offer all the services I need. I look forward to visiting again.
Thank goodness for Jillian at the Gahanna location! Shes fun and does an amazing job with my hair. Since my stylist of 8 years moved to Florida, Ive been searching for someone who is good with short, sassy cuts. Not only is Jillian great with it, she really enjoys doing short cuts!
I had a massage with Raquel today and it was absolutely amazing! She asks what areas are bothering you and makes sure to address those problems. Raquel makes sure you are comfortable with everything she is doing during your massage. I just wish I could enjoy her massages more often than what I do!
I came in for a leg wax and a hair style. Teagan was the one that did my legs and I loved her! She listened to my stories, laughed, and listened to my requests. Lily was my hair stylist. I showed her and idea and she recreated it perfectly! I’m definitely coming back!
The new facility is HORRIBLE. Penzones went from a 9 on a 1-10 scale to a very generous 6, if that. From the moment you step in, instead of a nice open inviting area you are confronted with a faux wall of marketing and it only gets worse from there. No pleasant waiting area, no private treatment stations, no more classy, upscale areas anywhere. The only positive thing about the place is, if you happen to be there on a gorgeous day you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the wonderful view of the traffic circle! The only reason I am even slightly considering going back is that my hairdresser is a family member. Otherwise I would definitely find a new place. No reason to pay Penzones prices for a bargain warehouse atmosphere.
I booked a repair appointment on line for dip polish for one nail. I called the next morning to see if the person I booked with did dip nails (knowing they specialize). The call center rep. said no and put me on hold. When she came back she said I could come at a different time to see a different person. When I arrived at the new time, I was advised that my dip repair couldnt be done because it would take longer than the automatic 15 minutes they allow for a repair and they asked if I could come back tomorrow. I recapped my story and advised I needed to be worked in. She told me other customers dont appreciate that. At this point I was definitely not feeling like a valued customer and more like a nuissance. I should mention I did get my dip set there two weeks prior. When asked why I was not told of the possibility that my repair may not be able to be done when I called in that morning, she said they wanted to see me in person to decide if they could do. They eventually acquiesced and worked me in but I was there for an hour and a half for one nail. Needless to say, I will not be going back which is too bad because its a beautiful salon. Just lacks on line booking specificity, call center competency and leadership.
I turned 56, went to Athena for a custom facial and she was AMAZING! My skin looks and feel rosy and youthful. She absolutely made me feel wonderful, it was just what I needed.
Desiree Desiree Desiree! She’s literally THE BEST.. if I want my hair STRAIGHT(thick hair) she gets it STRAIGHT! If I want blue hair, she will make sure it’s exactly the shade I want! Very professional and friendly at the same time..my hair has grown so much from her being my stylist. So if you want to look ur best and feel ur best.. She’s an expert in all things HAIR!
I came in for a hair trim and to get side bangs that were slightly below the eyebrows. My trim was okay, but my bangs are above my eyebrows and very short. I cant wear them like this until they grow out. I called and let them know, they offered 20% off my next hair cut, but I wont be going back. No refund offer.
Embrey is amazing at what she does. She did such a good job with my massage and she always made sure I was comfortable!
Awful experience, over priced, rude stylist, gel nail polish was peeling off with in 3 days. Was supposed to be a mother/daughter spa day but we were separated for all our procedures. My daughter Zoey and I were in on Wednesday March 30th.
My whole experience with this salon was a nightmare. I ended up not using their services but still feel obliged to warn others of their lack of professionalism. I went in for a consultation for hair extensions. I met with Mia and she seemed very nice and someone I would have loved to have worked with. However, the ancillary staff completely destroyed that opportunity. Mia gave me a price and when I was checking out, the manager pulled Mias assistant aside and discussed the price and how it was wrong. Who does this in front of a potential customer? It was so obvious and tacky. Mias assistant went back to speak with her to confirm the price and afterward the manager (no idea her name, she never introduced herself) came up to me and gave me the same price Mia had given me. Cool. So were set. A couple days later I call to set up my appointment. All set again. A day later I get a call back saying the hair will not be in on the date I scheduled so it will have to be later. Long story short, I tried calling Mia several times (using the business card she gave me, the number is incorrect...) but she didnt call back. The number I did get is not her direct number as she told me. It calls a scheduler for all of the Penzones. I will have to say, everyone I spoke to at this number, over SEVERAL days, was extremely nice and patient. I stayed just as calm and patient with them as I could tell they were dealing with the incompetence that is the Gahanna location. Finally at 6 pm one day, I get a call from someone named Nate who claims he is a manager, to order my hair. I didnt have my wallet available so I said I would call tomorrow with my info. So during my lunch break, you know, that short window of time you get as a nurse where you get a chance to sit and breathe and shovel food in your mouth, I call Nate. He tells me a price which is not anywhere near what I had agreed upon. So I told him this and his snarky response was that he told me that was the price yesterday. Not true, at all. And his even snarkier and dramatic response was, I ABSOLUTELY DID tell you that price yesterday. Cool, NATE. Calm down. So I told him to forget it, Im going somewhere else and his very professional response was Well, thats your prerogative. After an exchange of more words, I hung up and sat there in disbelief that a high end salon such as this could have failed a customer so hard. **DO NOT come to this location** Support other local businesses that treat their customers/potential customers with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
11/24 UPDATE: No one from management has reached out to me.I am thoroughly disappointed with the service I received at Charles Penzone located on Cherry Way Dr in Gahanna, OH. I scheduled an appointment to have my makeup done at 2:15pm on Saturday, October 27, 2018. When I scheduled the appointment, I told the associate that I wanted my makeup done for my baby shower and for a quick maternity photoshoot immediately following the shower. I also told the associate that Ill need lashes and that I am African American, so I wanted to ensure that the person scheduled to do my makeup would know exactly how to properly apply my makeup. She assured me that Jemma had 15 years of experience and would do an awesome job. Although Jemma was nice, I could tell that she seemed a bit uncomfortable as she was attempting to match my foundation. After feeling a number of short strokes to my face followed by a pause, I asked her if she was having trouble matching my foundation. She said No, not all and proceeded to do my makeup. She told me to take a look after the foundation was applied and I immediately knew it was not right. I was in shock. I told her the foundation she used did not match my skin tone. She said I think it matches perfectly and I told her it looks chalky. I told her my skin is caramel with a reddish undertone and directed her to see the clear difference between the skin near my hairline and where the chalky makeup line began. It definitely did not blend into my hairline. She took me to a different room to look at the makeup under different lighting and there was no difference. My stomach dropped and I felt like I made a HUGE MISTAKE in going there to get my makeup done. I told her I was ok with my eyeshadow, but was not happy with my foundation. In hopes that the overall look would get better, I told her perhaps it will look better once shes done. I reminded her about the lashes and she said she didnt see the note about my request for lashes, so she stepped away to get a few options for me to choose from. She then asked if I would be ok if she finished by 3:15pm and I told her that would be perfect because my shower was scheduled to start at 3pm, but I wanted to arrive a little late to give the guests time to arrive, mingle and be seated. She then realized she forgot the glue for the lashes, so she went down to the salon to get glue. She was away for quite some time, so I polished my nails, let them dry a bit and then went to my car to get my dress. She returned by the time I got back to the chair. She apologized and advised they did not have the proper shades of foundation for my skin. I told her I would have liked for someone to tell me that in advance because I could have made other arrangements. I could have gone to MAC or hired one of the makeup artists Ive used in the past. I told her my baby shower and photoshoot were not the occasions to experiment. She finally finished, well after 3:15pm, and I was still unhappy. At that point, I just wanted to get dressed and head to my shower. On the way downstairs, Jemma advised she talked to a manager and they did not charge me for the makeup. While Im glad that I didnt have to pay for it, I was saddened that my makeup made me feel self-conscious at my shower and my photos from the shower are horrible. I didnt even feel comfortable enough to do the short maternity shoot following the shower. This all could have been avoided if they would have been honest about their lack of products for my skin tone or lack of ability to properly apply makeup due to my ethnicity. Looking at the pictures from the shower literally make me cringe. If I want to share any on social media, I will have to apply some sort of filters to hide the horrible makeup job. I am one who wears makeup daily, so to arrive to my baby shower looking subpar was not a good feeling. I tried my best to be happy and enjoy my guests, but my appearance was in the back of my mind the entire time. I knew the camera would pick up on the mismatch. That was my first and last time going to Charles Penzone.
Alexis did a wonderful color and trim for my hair. She is so good at hair color and friendly!!! Totally recommend Alexis!!
Very unprofessional and not so skilled - Kylie at New Albany/Gahanna.Stylist (Director Level) is always running late. When I arrived today, I was told Kylie is running 30 minutes late. (No doubt because someone was squeezed in last minute). Nevermind I made my appointment 3 weeks ago and I drive an hour to get there and am ALWAYS on time.So I wait the 30 minutes and then I am offered water....really. Then I get in the chair and she wants to just argue with me about highlights. It cant be lighter, but it will be brighter. If I only wanted brighter, Id use conditioner to make my hair shine ( for alot less than they charge).I had been going here for years and Iwalked out and will never go back.
I have been looking for a regular stylist and salon for 6 long years. Tried The New Albany/ Gahanna location and say Kemarie. I have found my salon and my stylist. I love Kemarie she is amazing and I love how my hair looks everytime. She listens and makes suggestions and helps me figure out a style that works for my really fine hair. Shes amazing. And all the staff at the salon are friendly and make you feel welcome.
I have gone to this salon at least ten times. Each time I felt like a rockstar when I left. Cali and Sloane are my two favorite hairstylists. Theyre flexible and always get my hair to look amazing. I like crazy colors so its awesome the way they have managed to keep my hair healthy and get it to the colors I want.
I have been a very satisfied Penzone customer for over 20 years, and I recommend their salons to anyone. My wife has had the same stylist (Anita at Gahanna) for that same period. My former stylist, Stella, left to marry and move out of the area, but I was blessed with an excellent replacement in Miley in Gahanna. She does an excellent job with my haircut, and has a wonderful personality. Waiting for my appointment with Miley is also enjoyable, watching the beehive of enthusiastic activities all over the lobby area! I highly recommend Penzone salons.
I usually get on Google to give positive reviews for outstanding service. Charles Penzone is the exception. I have been to Charles Penzone twice; one with a gift certificate, one on my own. I was thoroughly disappointed the first time with the gift certificate (except for the eye brow waxing which was great - the only reason I am giving this 2 stars). The hair cut was uneven, bulky at the ends and the product recommendation and use was a terrible choice for my hair leaving it greasy and heavy right after. Then I moved to the Gahanna area, from a hairdresser that I adored in the Kent area, and decided to give them -- this time a higher ranking professional -- a second try. Even more disappointed. Not only was the price RIDICULOUS but the hair cut was honestly horrible. Thick, bulky, not at all what I asked for, not at all what I expected. I cannot believe anyone would pay for this not personal, way too big, overpriced place...Would not recommend...to anyone...for anything aside from a brow wax.
Love my stylist, Clair! Ive been coming to Penzone for decades, but not frequently as I have long straight hair that doesnt need cutting often! Also, since its so pricy, coming frequently would be financially painful. That said, I live new concept coming soon for wine services! I do feel that one glass should be included with your service since it is so expensive to begin with! Ive been to several nail salons that are much less costly and provide free wine!
I love Penzones and my hair stylist, Hunter! Ive been going there for over 10 years. I especially love how they have been giving away samples of products. This is a great new addition to their services. It has inspired me to by Melu shampoo and conditioner at their Spa. Thanks for always having great service!
Dear World: Please do yourself a favor and schedule a deep tissue massage with Savannah. Oh you don’t live in Ohio?? Then I’m not sure why you’re reading this review, but trust me when I tell you to book the appointment and catch the next flight out - ASAP. This woman is MAGICAL and turned my rigid, tense ball of a body into a bowl of Jell-O. I could say about one thousand other amazing things about her, but I’d rather just sit here in my sure to be indefinite state of bliss. 10 stars. A++. Standing ovation. End scene.
Alexis was great. She cut my hair like the picture I brought and gave me tips on styling myself. My husband likes my new look and thinks it is the best style I have had.
They had to reschedule the appointment because they accidentally scheduled the wrong person and told us we could get 20 percent off. Then they changed it to 20 percent off something later which they didnt want to give us either. Then they charged 200 dollars for a wedding trial where they only did one look and one hair style. When my fiance said she didnt like it they acted like she was being difficult. 200 dollars is way too high for a single look and I dont care how good the stylists think they are, their job is too make the customer happy. And we sure as hell arent that.
Great atmosphere in the lobby and waiting area. Everyone was very friendly. Wish it was a little more private and relaxing when getting my hair done. Found the salon area very chaotic and noisy.
Yolanda is amazing. She is always genuinely happy, friendly and goes the extra mile to make sure my experience is fantastic. She does an amazing job on my nails. I really like the recent addition of the coffee & wine bar. A nice glass of pinot noir is a great way to add a little extra relaxation to a spa appointment. Thanks so much Yolanda. You are a great asset to Penzone.
Jordan was AWESOME! My hair looked terrible when I came in. She really listened to me and gave me a terrific hair cut and style. It was expensive but worth every penny. I would recommend her to any and every bodt! 😁
LOVED my facial and it was amazing! Would totally give it 5 stars except for the check in experience. I have been going to this location for 20 years but live out of town now and had never done the self check in. There was an employee standing right next to it when I came in and I said hello to her. She turned and walked away and rudely said, “self check in” did not say hello, good morning, have you used self check in etc. Zero greeting and she acted like I annoyed her. She went behind the bar and when the self check in didn’t pull up my reservation or my mothers I asked her what to do. Without even making eye contact she asked for our last names and then started typing on a different computer. She didn’t say another word to us or even look at us and I had to ask her if we were all set. I have never had a bad experience at Charles Penzone until this weekend. If I had not been there celebrating Mother’s Day with my mom I would have left right then because I was so disgusted.
My regular esthetician was on a medical leave and my signature facial and eyebrow waxing was reappointed with a senior level esthetician. I agreed to this and was assured the price differential would be waived. I know every esthetician has different styles but this was the worst and most painful facial I have ever experienced. My previous facials have always been relaxing and I could not wait for this one to be over. Her extractions have left bruises on my face today similar to what rug burns look like. She was nice enough But extremely rough. Upon looking at my receipt today for services provided I noticed the charges were at the senior esthetician level. If the facial was enjoyable, I wouldn’t have made an issue of this but I refuse to pay more for a painful, unpleasant experience. I called and they did reimburse me the difference which is appreciated. Lastly, this is not the first time I have been reassigned a service provider and have been charged more. In the past I have just let it go. I have now learned to only see the providers I request, who I will continually come back to see.
First off I want to say that Sydney always does an awesome job at Penzone! As much as the bar area is great and provides choices for customers, there seems to be a disconnect when walking in and doing the self check in - there doesnt seem to be as much attention given to the customers waiting in the lobby and not much communication to the customer and no real attention especially if a stylist is running late there should be communication out to the customer. As a customer it makes you wonder if you are waiting in the wrong area or did something go wrong with the system? While waiting, I noticed a customer came in for her appointment asking where the restroom was so she could change for her pedi. She basically had to flag someone down - and was given incorrect information on where the restroom was from one of the staff. I have always enjoyed Penzone and not having anyone in the lobby greet customers and be customer focused is a miss.
Sidney does a great job. I am just making a comment. I have short and very thin hair. It takes Sidney 20 minutes from the time she starts till the time she is done. I am just wondering if people with thick hair that takes at least 15-20 minutes to dry not including the cut, do they pay the same amount?
The staff is very welcoming and management came and asked us if everything met our satisfaction after our haircuts and cared deeply about a concern we had with my husband haircut. They went above and beyond in every way.We will definitely make this our home salon.
I scheduled my appointment a week or so ago to get my hair done for my vacation and I just got a call 24 hours before my appointment that they lady was supposed to do my hair pulled and that their are no other opening for that day. I would have liked for them to do something to try and make my appointment possible but no I won’t be going to this salon at all I would have liked to have know days ago not a day prior when I can’t reschedule my appointment because I’m on vacation
This was only my 2nd time to Penzone and my first experience with Cora. She was sweet, and conversation was easy. Most importanly, my cut came out GREAT! I gave her an idea of what I wanted, she made recommendations based on how my hair lays, and the results were perfect. Thanks for a great experience, Cora!
Overall I really like the Gahanna salon. The facility is looking a little shabby in the salon areas, but the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the location is convenient. Unfortunately my last treatment was not something I would repeat. I had facial threading done, and the results were very disappointing as well as expensive. I feel like could have gotten better results at home.
I was so disappointed in my most recent experience. For years I treat myself to multiple services and so look forward to the 1/2 days to spend in total relaxation. This time was not good. Was greeted at the door, and told to simply go down stairs, not escorted. I made my way down and just sat. After sometime, I flagged down someone and asked them where the locker room was, and was taken to the employee locker room. Then someone told me I was in the wrong place and she took me to the correct spot. Told me where to put my things and told me to sit in the quiet room. I changed and was not given slippers or sandals...either had to go bare foot or put on my boots. I sit down in the quiet space and relaxed for some time. 10 min after my appointment was supposed to start someone came in and asked if i was her appointment. I said yes and she said “why are you in here and in a robe?? I’ve been looking all over for you”. I explained that i had been here relaxing for nearly 40 minutes and someone told me to sit here. I then asked for shoes, which she provided. She then walked me into her suite and apologized for her attitude. My massage was ok. She had great pressure but the massage was ok. I’d say about 7 out of 10. She then brought me back to the quiet space. My next tech came and got me and gave me a facial. She was nice, talked a lot & loud, but was nice. I’d give the facial a 7/10. Overall though with lack of the pampering service I’d rate my whole thing a 4-5 out of 10. For the prices, I’d rather spend the money at The Woodhouse Spa. They take pampering to the next level. It’s disappointing to write this, as I’ve always been a loyal Penzone gal...but things have gone down hill. I spoke with a manager and explained. She was very nice & understood. Offered me 20% off my next massage, but I don’t know that I’ll take advantage of that.
Cora is the best stylist! She takes care to listen to what you really are looking for. I especially love that Penzone offers ammonia free hair color and their COVID protocols are the best I’ve experienced. Cheers!
I’m so disappointed with my appointment yesterday 07/28/2020 ... poor acrylic gel services. I did it yesterday and what should last for more up 4 weeks, the gel polish has already left the tips and the professional does not have a good finish detailing there was a lack of nail polish in the corners of the nails, expensive and terrible service.I wish get my money back
I wont go anywhere else. The top notch service and the qualified staff makes me return everytime. Jersey makes my hair come to life. Shes honest with me if my choices are not healthy for my locks and she shows me healthier alternatives.....I feel like a new woman when I leave!
I showed my stylist my inspiration picture and what I was left with looked nothing like the picture I showed. I had uneven lines and I got balayage but she took it way too close to my roots. When she toned it it was way too yellow so she re did it to try to look more golden but it ended up looking orange.
My technician, Mesha, is ALWAYS amazing! But your elevator is broken so frequently that I get nervous before appointments, thinking it might be broken again. Well, yesterday, I came in to receive a service and the elevator was broken. Again. I have severe arthritis in my knees and have had multiple knee surgeries. I cannot do stairs! Fortunately, one of the other technicians showed me the employee elevator and told me to ask my tech about it so I could use it to get back up to the main floor. Nobody had ever told me about it before her though.Sadly, I’m seriously contemplating finding a new salon because I can’t deal with this lack of accessibility. What if I had been in a wheelchair? Do I just not get serviced? Do I have to get my service in the lobby? The elevator needs to be completely replaced and/or a second one needs to be added. If this was a “once in a blue moon” thing, I’d understand. But, unfortunately, this happens A LOT. Unacceptable, Penzone! Cute door handles though. 😕
Kay is my hair soul mate! Ive been seeing her for several years now and have never had an issue with my hair experience or the overall Penzone experience. From walking into to the salon to leaving after everything is done, everyone is always so welcoming and helpful.
My experience was incredible at Penzone! I am grateful that I read the previous reviews about the electronic sign in so I didnt feel stupid waiting for help because no one was at the door to welcome me. The 60 minutes custom massage with Kristina was amazing. I even started to sleep and snoring (lol).
Aubree does an excellent job with listening and making sure your hair looks how you want it to (if not better). Kemarie does both of my childrens hair and does an excellent job with giving them a cut that looks sharp, but doesnt need to necessarily be styled in order to look good.
I felt the massage was good but there seemed to be periods during the massage which had seemingly long periods of just ineffective techniques in the neck and scalp areas. Moreover, the moments that felt most effective were on the left quad and left shoulder girdle. Ultimately, I am not for trashing someones efforts I will take some accountability for not being more vocal.
I saw Brittany for the first time yesterday. I have a pixie and have struggled to find a stylist who knows what they are doing. I FOUND HER! Brittany is amazing and I love, love, love my cut and color. Im so pleased. Thank you.
Aubree is incredible and after several times going to the hair school at Aveda I had a million colors in my hair. She gave me a maintainable, beautiful blonde balayage— exactly what I wanted and she was quick. I had the whole rest of my afternoon freed up vs sitting in a chair for hours on end and the plus side was she even styled it for me, which lasted 3 days. 🙌🏻 Love her!
Faye was very nice and explained everything perfectlyI feel that she is very good at her jobHowever for what I had done, a peel. Was way over priced. I went in and came out looking and feeling the same. She did explain that I would need several peels for a change. It’s too expensive. I won’t book another.
Ive been seeing the same artist at Penzone for years and my experiences with her have been nothing but amazing!! I also love that shes not pushy with the products. Its a great atmosphere and I definitely look forward to my appointments.
Came here for bridal party hair and makeup. Opal did a wonders with my makeup and Molly was great figuring out a hairstyle that worked and making it happen. All very friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you!
My massage therapist was good, but the overall atmosphere wasnt the most luxurious or relaxing. I would definitely recommend Embrey. You also cant use your gift card for tip/gratuity so that was a little irritating. But I get it its policy.
My fave stylist is Miley. She is very good at reading people. For example, she can tell when I want to chat or just sit there. She is also an awesome stylist!
The staff is very friendly and they now serve wine at their refreshment station. I love getting massages my Brenda, MasterMassage Therapist. Ive had her do my massages several times now!
I have a pedicure at Polaris about once every 7 weeks or so and I wont go to anyone but ROBERT! He is the best! Hes polite, professional and a perfectionist. The lemon and papaya scrubs smell great and I feel great when Ive had a pedi!
Liddy saved my hair! (And my vacation) I left another salon in tears after getting over 10 inches cut off. Liddy took my ho hum bob cut and turned it into a stylish pixie. She listened to me, gave suggestions based on hair and face shape, was professional (never bashed the first stylist/salon) and really turned it all around. I will be back, all my friends will hear about it and I will be looking at other services. (Check in and out staff was great also)
I am not at all happy with the stylist. I kept telling her she was cutting too much off. She cut off at least 8”! My hair was down to my waist now it’s just below my shoulders. I could have done the same cut at home and saved myself the money.
I have always had gel pedicures in a wide variety of salons before and was looking forward to go to the Gahanna/New Albany salon and have a pleasant and awesome experience in this salon because of reviews and recommendations from other friends and sources that have gone before and the convenience that is close to my residence area, but the experience didnt went as expected. First when I called the salon to make the appointment the receptionist did not understand what I was exactly asking for and she ultimately scheduled me for a Gel removal/reapplication pedicure, that was not what I wanted but then I expected it to be something really nice (considering that Im used to get massages, hot stone application, paraffin or at least a nice scented scrub along with callous skin scrub or something similar) only got a seaweed scrub, which I guess was okay..the next thing that disappointed me was most places I have gone before I would expect to have beverage service for an upcharge(I dont mind paying for it because its part of enhancing my experience, if you offer it I had no way to know it because no one offered it, and its not that me being the customer need to ask, its a customer service oriented experience that you need to present to your customers SPECIALLY WHEN IT IS A FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE GOING TO THE SALON, all I say if you have an expectation that you are going to pay top dollar for a service, it has to be worthwhile, otherwise, I just take my business somewhere else. As far as the nail technician Teresa, she was good and very nice. Is this a service that I would recommend to others or that I would return?..I dont know, maybe not.
Designer - Avery North is awesome. Listen and makes suggestions. I am always pleased! The checkout station needs help when there are new employees. The are not ready to be checking out individuals and/or making appointments. I was pleased I had to wait 23 minutes. Please have someone with them longer for training purposes.
Athena did my makeup for a photo shoot and I was OBSESSED! Athena is the most outgoing and funny person, and is totally relatable. I will definitely have more services by her in the near future!
Been coming here for years, now I have to give them my CC to make an appointment, even if you walk-in. Sorry Deborah, youre not getting my CC--Ive been hacked way too many times. Guess Ill have to go to Supercuts.
