I came here in a group of 6 looking to spend an hour Saturday at 2:00, and they were great! We all got some of their menu cocktails and everyone was happy with what they got, and the small food order I got was also fantastic. We were seated on a beautiful patio, but the interior was also fantastic from the small time I was in.

The ambiance and service were great. Its a solid place for a beer and a cocktail (reasonable price for the market). We had the tenders and the Philly cheese steak. The meals we had are not memorable but Im Indian and used to food having flavor. The prices on some of the meals was a bit too much for what you got. Portions were good. Def going back for a drink and music.

A true hidden gem right in the city! Burlesque night is incredible. The bartender (Shannon) made some amazing drinks. The botana was one of the best I’ve ever had and was priced right!

Attended for a birthday celebration. Approx 25 of us throughout the evening. Service was average at best. It wasnt that busy until later,I understand being overwhelmed when busy. Ive been multiple times but this was the first time we didnt have great service. The kitchen closed at 9 (we were unaware before going) there were several of us that intended to eat and we tried to order shortly before 9. Our drinks were empty more often than full. We had to find our server. The server combined bills without asking or letting us know prior causing awkwardness because some were paying cash and some credit. The glasses from our tables were not cleared. Several of us just went up to the bar to order. Great music, nice atmosphere. Food is usually yummy. Overall a great night.

This place was amazing. We walked in and were immediately greeted and welcomed to the bar for a drink. Chad was our bartender who shared some great tips for places to visit in town and the other patrons were friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. I’ll be back!

We didn’t get to order any food. There was only one waitress and she was running around trying to take care of everyone. She apologized a number of times. We felt bad for her. We attempted to order a couple of drinks. The bartender wasn’t paying attention and it took awhile however we finally got our drinks. One of the drinks had a missing ingredient or two. It was not drinkable. I wanted to return it and get my money back but there wasn’t going to happen, as the bar area service got worse. The bartender was doing shots, he was male.

Stopped in for drinks & fries on Saturday evening , the place was cute & dark but the service was horrible and extremely slow and they had a total of 6 customers inside. It took awhile for someone to acknowledge us & take our order at the bar. Our server kept disappearing and forgetting stuff, Also the kitchen hours/rules are weird and they pick and choose which items you can order at a certain time ….but the aesthetics are nice

Ky was an excellent server! She was kind, friendly, and thorough. The music was nice, the food was delectable, the patio was beautiful, and the mimosa was bubbly. I will definitely return!

This place is so sick! I came in to check it out to plan out an event in the future & I was so surprised. It has a huge indoor space, with a long bar and very comfortable lounge seating, large dance floor with a decent sized stage. But I’m saying this to you now, that patio is where it’s at! I was out there the whole night soaking up the almost summer air. I’m definitely gonna visit anytime I come home (I live in New York and I’m from Detroit).

This place is one of my favorite music venues and bars in Detroit. They have top notch musical acts. The owner is a music head. There are anywhere from blues bands, to DJs, to karaoke, to Brazilian jazz.

Super pleasantly surprised by this little hidden gem in downtown Detroit! I attended a business networking event there and had two drinks but did not try the food. The service was excellent and the patio is really nice on a beautiful weather day. There is a giant well lit parking deck right across the street making it super convenient to visit without struggling for street parking or having to walk far from the nearest deck. All in all, will definitely not hesitate to be back!

Food 5 stars servers 5 stars just had a bad experience with one of the cook coming from the back yelling at the server about dishes this was not cool because it was my daughter birthday celebration and she was kinda scared because the lady was being absolutely inappropriate in front of guest especially a birthday brunch for a child I think we should get a discount next time we come and please talk to that dishwasher lady about doing that in front of guest

We had dinner here after a rehearsal dinner and my mother was told the bill would not include tip, she ended getting charged for a gratuity.. the server was great, and it’s not his fault. The manager Jay is the issue. The thing is, we would’ve tipped more anyway. We gave him $160 at the end, $80 extra from us which is crazy.

Great place, good food, but the drinks are ridiculously overpriced!! This is the second time I’ve been charged for having my drink “on the rocks” which they call a “drink extra”, never knew I had to pay for ice. Look at your bill if you come here!!

Disgusting lace that should not have a license to serve food or drinks. Filthy bar, food was barely edible, and the staff were rude when we asked for a refund to not pay for something that never even showed up.

This place has a great brunch on the weekends. I typically order the steak and eggs which are amazing. Food is always well cooked and seasoned correctly. Great mimosas which are pretty reasonably priced.The atmosphere is pretty chill during the brunch hours. Cozy, relaxed feel. Service is pretty decent as well.

The place host some dope events, lots of house music underground type parties, and you can also find live music. Food wise theyre known for their fish and chips, and they often sell out so get there and order early. The fish was good and came pretty quick. Id recommend this place for parties & drinks more so than food.

Great food brunch and lunch people are very friendly but every time I go they try to charge me $6 extra on my bill for a drink I always ask them what it’s for they tell me when you get ice in your cocktail is a bigger pour and when I had it straight it was the same pour check your Bill They call it a drink extra I owned a bar make it make since stop it please

I used to go here a lot before the pandemic but finally made it back here. The maple whiskey wings are better than ever! Thank you so much!

Went to Northern Lights on Saturday, Feb. 17th with some friends. 1st indicator that we should have left, it took forever for someone to acknowledge us at the table. Once I got the waitresss attention (her name was Danni) she came over and cleaned off the table. There was candy on the table, which for some reason she took. I asked her to bring the candy back to the table when she returned. She took our drink order and returned forgetting a drink, which I had to remind her of. After the food order was taken and we received it (which was ok...not as good as I remember nor as expensive), she came to our table and took our napkins WHILE WE WERE EATING! That was VERY weird and I had to ask her to bring the napkins back. I have NEVER experienced that before EVER. The service was very lackluster and I am not sure if I will return, which I am sure they may not care about. Servers need to be better trained and the food needs some fixing too.

Nice experience on a Friday night. The bar itself had a dive bar feel and a DJ was playing, however, we were not interested. After ordering, we took our beers outside and there we were kept cozy by the campfire. This was pivotal as the night was breezy and cool. There is a couch in the womens bathroom (bonus points)

First time going today and the food and atmosphere was great! We had an amazing server who was very friendly and always checked in with us.

The DJ sucked!!! And I received a tiny glass of water with a ton of ice!! The tequila shot was weak but the lemon was good though.

I had a fun time, everything was cool for the most part. Pretty sure my waitress was drunk but whatever it happens. Gave my credit card to someone else was fun getting in order but overall. Bring yourself down and it’s a cool place to visit.I’m old remember. Who cares what I think. If you’re cute. Young and ready to party. They’ll help ya do it ;)

Northern lights is a special place. Calmer style bar with a jazz feel atmosphere. They have red comfort round booth seating which is a huge plus in my book. Its also one of the few places where you can get a ginger beer with alcohol (crabbies) in it. The food here is also quite delightful. Their burger is both monstrous and mouth watering. Overall if youre looking for a chill night out, or looking for a live band on a weekday, or in the summer dance to a live DJ out in the patio - Northern lights is where you want to be. Its not a college bar and the crowd it attracts is the type you want to stay and inquire into the lives too.

Went for drinks and dinner on a beautiful late September fall evening. The food was phenomenal. The patio was lovely. The service could’ve been a lot better, but I’m chalking it up to the waiter/waitress’s day. They were very nice, just kept forgetting about us and forgot one whole meal. We all have bad days. And the food was so good that we didn’t really mind.

Cool staff and good drinks. This is Not your average bar food. Sure, you could eat chicken but you have to try the house made veggie burger, the steak or anyone of the specials. Chef is the truth!

Had a scheduled reserved event scheduled for 20 people. Arrived at 6pm, tables werent ready. Tables were ready at 7pm, server arrived at 7:30. All of our food was not ordered together. Some people received food, others did not. 2 people had the wrong food ordered and the cook refused to remake the food. Those who ate thought the food was really good. Our server did his best to accommodate us although we were told that there was a problem in the kitchen between the server and the cook. Overall lounge had a great vibe, although I dont think its a great place for a group as they cannot seem to accommodate that size.

Such a cute place with a very retro dive bar feel. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of seating available. Mimosas are only 3 dollars which is a perk. I had the loaded hash and enjoyed the fresh veggies cooked in. It feels very homecooked and I like that.

Been awhile since Ive visited here, it was on a different scale today. Got a drink and a meal...my fries were crumbly and the taste of rewarmth😩 they made sure to check after I finished my entire meal, had the wings they were jus wings. They do hav a happy hour, atleast thats better than no happyhour....I would return but not for food or not alone if I want anything but a quick stopin...

The atmosphere seemed like a nice time so my friends and I decided to try this place out for the first time. Big mistake! We got harassed at the door by what we thought would be the bouncer to find out it was just a couple checking IDs as a joke, there was no bouncer. Then we walked up to the bar to get a drink. There was one bartender working. After 20 minutes another one came out of the back. He grabbed the people next to us who were first. After he finished he comes back down so I put my hand out with my card expecting to order next, especially having waited 30 minutes now. The bartender snapped his fingers in my face and held up one finger and immediately goes to help the couple who had just walked up. My friends and I immediately walked out and were so disappointed in the treatment and service. Definitely not worth your time to stop in

I wanna give this 5 stars soooo bad because the food is super solid and the atmosphere is fantastic. The only thing holding me back is that the bartender experience has been difficult every time ive come. Slow and complicated to order, even when its empty - prepare to wait for your drinks, and just dont leave your tab open because its going to take awhile to close out.

Probably my favorite bar in Detroit. Its old Detroit that is not yet blown out by the new. Fantastic buffalo wings and nachos. Every Thursday has the best show in the city and with no cover. Very diverse based on race, age, and persuasion. Neighborhood bar vibe at happy hour. Id give it six stars if I could.

Fantastic! The Maple Wings were the best wings Ive ever had, hands down. Bartender was very friendly and super fast on drinks and food. Highly recommend.

Idk what happened to this place. beautiful space inside and an amazing patio. food wasn’t half bad either but the bartender didn’t even acknowledge me when i went in. same story next couple times with this particular dude. he seems to be blind that anyone has come into the bar or something. took my food order never put it in starving. all this to say the other bartender / manager? saved the day a bit but unless they ramp up service it’s tough sell to get me in there when i can barely even get a pbr sorry northern lights reviews out of love.

Drinks were great, ambiance was great I loved the indoor and outdoor seating, food was good toobo ordered the lava wings and added hot sauce to them and that service was ok only reason its getting four stars and parking is limited

We were seated at 6:10pm and no one took our drink order for over 40 minutes. Only half of our table got their food. We had to tell the waiter to cancel the other orders after another 20 minutes of waiting. One of the orders was the hummus plate and never got it. Never got to put in 2nd drink orders. Waited another 15 minutes for the bill. In summary, in 90 minutes 1 drink order and only half the orders delivered. A complete mess, they were not ready to reopen.

Place to be for the 8pm music performances. Check website for schedules from musicians in residence. Real Detroit special.

Very nice place to watch music. Food was very good. Dennis Coffey plays Tuesday nights. One of the greatest guitar players alive. Highly recommend.

They go back and forth about making reservations, but if you have a large group, then they will reserve and area. ( more money) mixed drinks are very watered down, and they now charge for things that used to be free ( sauce, dressing etc.)

Hi All, hung out at Northern Lights & it was really nice! The vibe, cocktails & serice was ALL on point!! And what I really liked & appreciated even more was that the people were mature which made my visit so good & fun! And the house music was so on point!

I ordered fried shrimp, rice pilaf and coleslaw. Food was great, but the serving of coleslaw was about 2 tablespoons. The restaurant recently opened, so they had no straws or carryout containers. I wanted to order lunch for my mom but I can do that next time. Happy that Northern Lights has reopened!!!

The food is absolutely delicious! The ranch & spicy ranch sauces are so good. The quesadilla, chicken tenders, maple whiskey wings, salmon dinner, mac & cheese dinner are super good!

Well I was very disappointed after going to this place in the 90’s and being the best hot spot for happy hour after my day at Henry Ford to the Sunday Brunches. Well Being an Afro-American women the feeling of why are you here started from the door give $10 to come in, until I left! Drinks are bad, water down!! Unless you ordering a beer or can/bottle drinks, good luck! (Bartenders) are bad!! Went outside and the waitress never came to are table(black people) but everyone around us got checked on!! Very disappointing, hope it gets better! Didn’t order food, couldn’t get over the feeling why are you here! Just Wow!

This whole experience was very awkward. As first timers, we walked in not knowing if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Both bartenders just stared at us multiple times without greeting us or saying anything at all. Getting service was difficult and awkward as well and our bartender “accidentally” closed our tab after our first round when we asked to keep it open. Leaving, my partner went to use the restroom and discovered a bartender and customer locked in the only bathroom stall together and waited on the two of them to “finish up” for quite a period of time. Weird vibes here all around.

I love this gem of a place in Detroit. The patio is sexy and great place to grab food or a drink with a friend or date.

I went to this place after work with some coworkers. The waitress seemed overwhelmed even though there were very few customers in the restaurant. I order the salmon bites and they were subpar.

The best lamb chops and sexy servers! Oh yeah and I learned to Detroit hustle and ballroom dance!

We scanned the QR code on our table and it went to the bars website instead of a drink menu. When the server arrived, we asked if there was a drink menu we could see. She answered no and then just looked at us without saying anything. We had to ask follow-up questions to try and figure out what was available and how to get a drink and never got a straight answer. We walked out.

Absolutely rude owner and establishment. I can name 1000 other bars in the metro area to go to than to go see these jokers. Don’t go here, place deserves 0 stars.

Visited Northern Lights on a Friday for Happy Hour with some co-workers. We sat on the patio. The drinks were great! The happy hour specials were $5 Martinis and well drinks. The food was also good! Our server was nice and friendly but seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. Over all we had a great time and will be returning soon!

Ive been here twice, for lunch, as I work right around the corner. I ordered the fish (cod) and chips each time and it was delicious both times. They give you a decent portion of fish and its nice and crispy, but not greasy. The French fries are also tasty. I have 4 stars because the wait staff wasnt the most attentive and efficient. I had to ask for condiments and water a couple of times. Overall, I will definitely be back. I want to go for the live music, that I hear is awesome!

Northern Lights has a swanky 70s decor feel to it. There is sometimes a cover but this Friday night there wasnt. Bonus! My party has four. The table we sat in at first we were NEVER greeted. Lame! We started to leave but four seats together at the bar opened so we sashayed right over and took them.The bartenders were great. I ordered the bloody Mary -- not good. Dont even bother with it. As for food we had the hummus and buffalo chicken wings. Cant vouch for the hummus; however, my son and his wife ate it all up with smiles. The buffalo wings were GREAT!! Sauce was very spicy and its cool because you are able to choose all flats or drums, which was a huge bonus. All flats all the way.A cool side note is the ladies room. The stall is swanky and different. Mine had a bolt lock, chain lock and peephole to see out. Cant get much safer than that.

Gorgeous patio. The inside is great for a dark corner with a date listening to live music and having drinks. There is a really nice shuffle board that is lots of fun. Mike who is the owner, Yolanda the head Chef and all of the staff are very nice. The food is great.

My mother and I stopped in to have a quick bite before showtime at the fisher theater.We sat in the booth for 10 minutes before my mother got up and went over to the waitstaff member to request that we be served. ( I was already ready to leave at this point)The waitress threw the menus on the table. Never brought my requested full drink order then came back to take the order. After bringing the order, she never once asked if we needed anything else.I had their corned beef sandwich on rye bread and french fries. The corned beef was DRY. The fries were nicely seasoned but lukewarm.My mother had their fish and chips. She said that it was disappointing.I don’t have a problem with the venue, it is a very nice looking place for what they serve. I ran into problems because the service was poor and the food was not what it could’ve been.I am very disappointed by Northern Lights Staff and Food overall. It was a horrible dining experience that I do not ever have to go through again because I am never returning to this place.I don’t recommend this place for anything, to anyone, at anytime.

The food was okay, but its nothing special, and the music is great. We came in for a Sunday morning brunch with a larger group (around nine people). We ended up waiting two and a half hours for our food, and every time wed ask our waitress for something, shed forget. Also, she rarely refilled our water. I would definitely come here again for the music on a Friday or Saturday night, but Im all set with dining here.

Beautiful place, horrible service. If you have to ask someone to take and order after sitting at a table for 30 minutes, there is a problem. It would be possibly acceptable if it happens once, but this happens every time. New servers almost every time I come, but the service is still horrible.It’s really a shame because their bar has such amazing atmosphere, a great patio and good live music. I assume there is something wrong with the management because we rarely see the same server when we corn back. That being said, the service is horrible by any standard.

Before the pandemic hit, my husband and I loved going to Northern Lounge on Thursday nights for jazz music and delicious food. The interior decor and outdoor patio are both really nice. We loved hanging out on the patio on summer nights. Loved the live jazz music, too!! I miss Northern Lounge so much! 💜

The experience I had at this establishment was absolutely terrible. I attended a brunch here for my cousins birthday and there was 12 of us. We arrived at 12pm and it took an hour and a half for us just to get our drinks. Then it took another hour for us to get our meals. My cousin and I never received our food and was never told what was going on with our food .Then my other family members got their food and several of them had to send their meals back because it was cold ..we were told that the meals would be out in 15 minutes and it still took another 45 minutes for the food to come. By the time my food came, I did not even want it at that point. My cousin asked to speak to the manager Gina and she was doing a lot of running around and she finally came to our table and did not seem like she was too impressed to speak to us. Instead of apologizing, she gave a lot of excuses about why our experience was the way in was. The waitress was not apologetic either and she seemed irritated when my family were sending their meals back.I definitely would not come here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone that I know.

The food here is pretty good. My coworkers and I have tried this place a few times for lunch. While they have decent food it takes fooorrrreeeever. We have a 1 hr lunch. We went in last week. There were maybe 6 other patrons, and it took 1 1/12 hrs for our food to arrive, incorrectly. If your looking for a quick bite this wouldnt be your place, however if you have time to spare this place is pretty good.

I was impressed by this little bar. Their burgers are incredible, fresh meat from the Eastern Market every day. I had an attentive server and watched the Jazz band get set up for a show. I had tickets for Fisher Theater or I would have stayed. Be sure to check them out!

My server, Marcus, was AWESOME, however, my NY Strip steak was tough but was seasoned well. (I ate it because I was hungry.) My first batch of mixed vegetables seemed to be days old and dry. I sent them back and requested a fresh batch. I waited 40 minutes for my steak, 30 minutes for fresh order of mixed veggies after sending back the nasty veggies, and my fresh mac & cheese didn’t come out for 1.5 hrs after I initially ordered it. I rated this establishment 2⭐ because of the service and the old school bar feel. Good music too.

Waited 40 minutes and didnt even get a water brought to us. Had to flag staff down just for a menu. No explanation, no apologies, basically ignored the whole time. Not even a, Hey, we are busy, sorry. Food smelled good, but Ill never know how it tastes because Ill never go here again. Wasnt busy enough to deserve such poor service.

My favorite place to go and chill and hang with friends. Their lava wings are amazing! Parking is pretty good. Its normally free to get in but sometimes they have special nights costing like 5$. Its still not bad.Everyone is friendly. I love the outside patio and its smoker friendly. Karaoke nights is awesome too!!Been here plenty of times, years! No problems ever. Regardless if I go in the early afternoon or late evening.

The lighting and atmosphere is nice. Service at the bar is great; tableside not so much. Glad Im not much of a beer drinker as I hear theyre a bit pricy and not much of a happy-hour special. Mixed drinks with well liquor is reasonable though. The little bit of food I had was decent, but I havent really sampled enough to give thourough feedback. I will be willing to come back if other from my party suggest it.

It was a nice atmosphere. We went for a quick bite before a show at the Fisher theater. I had the Mac n cheese and a piece of chocolate pie. My sister had the French onion soup. All things were good.

A bar like so many others, trying to carve out a niche in the dark. By that I mean its very, very dark inside, particularly in the table and booth areas.Good service. Decent menu, albeit slow to serve. Hopefully the food looks as good as it tastes, which is not terrible.

Dont try to eat here. Gave it the benefit of the doubt 6 times, addressed my concerns and was still faced with a multitude of wrong orders, inconsistency, attitude and 20-30min serving times. One star is for the improved outdoor patio vibe. Great job. The other is for the lava wings that might eventually come out, but only if you ask about their whereabouts.

Our waitress was great. The kitchen not so much. The French onion soup was good. The clam chowder was cold so she had to take it back for a hot bowl. The beer batter chicken strips were okay, a little greasy, but okay. The thing I cant figure out is how they can justify charging $12 for 3 chicken strips. We figured we could split a basket of chicken strips between 2 people as a snack, but it was more like a sampler.

Went here for brunch on a Sunday with a large group of people. Several of us ordered the smothered hash and were disappointed when it did not come with the advertised cheese sauce. In addition, my meal took quite a while longer to arrive at the table than others and the toast was burnt. Our waitress, while nice, seemed a bit overwhelmed by our large group and got a few orders wrong. While I would normally be understanding about this with a large group, we were her only table. Id be willing to give this place another chance, but overall it was a pretty average experience.

This place gets 5 stars because of the throwback DJs. Ive been here several times to hear J From House Party and DJ Mas Que Nada. The food here is EXCELLENT. I have had their food at art shows given by Center for Creative Studies. But sometimes they are so packed they are behind on orders. Workers are friendly...when you can grab one:) Outside eating and dancing in the summer can be really fun here. Im not a big drinker, but friends/family say drinks are great.

Recently attended a birthday celebration at Northern Lights. The lounge was clean, our waitress was pleasant and the food was prompt. They even changed the music playlist per our group’s request. All in all, we had a great time!

I was happy until I ordered my food and when it was time to pay. My waitress, Anna was very rude, curt, and very unprofessional. I ordered a Turkey burger, which comes with lettuce, tomato, and onions. And I ordered fries as well. She brings me this plan burger that had nothing on it but lettuce and there were no fries and no condiments. So I brought it to my waitresses attention she said, oh I will go get it and order the fries. Well 20 minutes later I am still sitting waiting for tomato, onion, fries and condiments. When I asked to speak to the manager, cause my burger has been sitting so long, it will be cold by the time I get the rest of my order. Well by now Anna comes out with the tomato, onion, and pickles; still no fries and I asked her for the condiments and she reaches on a shelf behind my head, and says in a very condescending voice therere right here. I asked again for the manager and needless to say, I have not seen the manager yet. I am home now. And for this poor, disrespectful service I had to give a 20% tip.

Poor is an understatement for the level of service we received! I wish there was a way to give less than 1 star.We had a party of 20 reserved for a birthday brunch. 1.5 hours of waiting before we were seated. We had to organize tables ourselves. There were 8 place settings for 20 people. We were offered free mimosas for our wait, and they were never received. We watched while group after group walked in while as we were ignored. No waiter ever came to assist us or even bring menus. Our group spoke with the manager several times and nothing was ever resolved. After 2 hours of waiting, our party left hungry and annoyed!

This is just a super cool space both indoors and outdoors. Great place to grab a beer, some food, and take in a show - especially Dennis Coffey.

When we arrived we were not greeted or shown to a table. We sat ourselves and had to flag down a waitress only after she went and served another table who had arrived after us. Once we flagged her down she did not apologize for the wait and proceeded to tell us how nobody had come to work and that everyone was mad about it (again not our problem). We had gone there for brunch and when asked for a brunch menu we were told (in a very rude manner) that they weren’t serving brunch (this is not what was listed on their website). This was an overall horrible 1st time experience. We will not be back!

I was a regular coming often on my lunch. Service on the floor is a miss every-time. Service at the bar is better. I generally get the nachos, but switched up and got the chicken tenders and fries, they only offered tenders as an app for $12, I figured it would be 6 tenders for that price. I received 3 small chicken tenders the size of McDonalds; and paid $2 extra for a small portion of fries. I felt like I ordered off the kids menu and I left hungry. Sorry I won’t be returning for lunch. Maybe drinks if I’m ever in the area after work hours.

The kinda place you go even when you know you shouldnt. Drinks are totally solid here, but you cant rely on the tap beer to be in stock. Chicken wings are so delicious, but nothing else on the menu is extraordinary. Sometimes they have live bands play inside. The patio area is great during the summer, although there are a lot of bees there.

I think their menu is too greasy. They also dont put a lot of effort into details, e.g. salads have large chunks instead of small dices, chicken tenders arent the same size. I have also felt mildly ill twice after having their ranch; maybe temperature issues are to blame. The service is terribly slow. Nice, friendly people, but slow. Its probably a better place to grab a drink and snack than a meal.

Most disappointing experience ever. Was hyped up about the chicken strips. Went here with friends, took an hour to get our food, chicken ended up being dry. Seems like there was only one waitress for the entire place so we feel bad for her, but as an establishment, what happened? $12 for 3 chicken strips that took an hour, not the best size, and theyre dry. Cant even tip less bc groups are automatic 20% tip.

My sister had a birthday party here a couple years ago. Up until recently the experiences have been fantastic. I don’t know if they’re under new management or whatever but the place has certainly gone downhill. Normally I’m not one to complain or leave reviews (I manage a restaurant Downtown, so I know first hand places can have one-off situations.) However, I went there for a quick drink with my sister tonight and her glass was filthy. I mean RED lipstick ALL around the rim. DISGUSTING to say the least. Naturally we sent it back and the server brought a fresh one. Mind you, he didn’t freak out or apologize as if he was embarrassed. He just took the drink back as if this sort of thing happens all the time. No manger came to see us, nothing, just a new drink.Obviously, we didn’t expect to pay for that drink. However, when the bill came the drink was still on there. I explained to the server that I did not want to pay for a drink that had been served in a filthy glass. Instead of fixing the situation himself the server said he didn’t want to argue with us and went to get the manager. Now as a manager myself, of a FINE DINING establishment, if a guest ever informed me that they received a dirty glass or dish I’d automatically take the item off their bill and offer to supplement it with something else, on the house. This is good customer service, point blank period. Never would I expect a guest to pay for a dish/drink that had the remnants of a previous guest still left on it. Mike, the night manage this evening, was the worst manager I have EVER dealt with. When he sat down I again explained to him that I didn’t want to pay for a drink that was served in a filthy glass. I wanted it taken off the bill. The fact that I even had to ask for this in the first place is just down right dumb and very poor customer service. He proceeded to tell us that because she was given a new one she would have to pay for it. I was not paying for that drink, simply because of the principle of the situation. He then started to say “well here’s what’s going to happen.” No sir. Here’s what’s not going to happen. You’re not going to tell me what I am going to pay for, that’s not how this goes. He was not accommodating and didn’t offer any compensation at all when the mistake was their fault alone.Bottom line, this could have all be avoided if the server himself has just taken the drink off the bill. But hey, I guess he didn’t want his tip 🤷‍♀️If you decide to patronize this establishment in the future beware of dirty dishes. Make sure you check EVERYTHING. Check the utensils, glassware, and plates before you start eating/drinking. Because according to this place, if your glass has red lipstick on it, that’s not yours, or even if you find a hair in your food, they’ll still make you pay for it. Because they “remedied” everything by giving you a new order. Patronize at you own risk. You’ve been warned.

Cozy atmosphere. Great music. Horrible service. Waited an hour to order our food. The waitress waited on the table next to us 5 minutes after they walked in. We had to get our own menus and ask twice for someone to take our order.

I really like this place however I was there Friday night and the bartender was overwhelmed and was unable to provide basic customer service. As a former bartender, her behavior was unacceptable. For example, I witnessed a customer walk up and say that he wanted to cash out and she threw her hand up at hom never turning around to acknowledge him. Many others complained in my presence. I waited patiently and recieved a drink after 2 others assisted her at the bar. If this had been my first experience at this location, I probably wouldnt return.

It’s on personality and it’s own vibe. This place is the go too for a night of great music and great times. My friends and I were there for NYE, and they had a rotating schedule of DJs who played some really good deep house and techno. It was hassle-free and everyone in my 6 person group left with a smile on their faces. This is the low key spot I still feel is a secret. But the word is out!

WE LOVE this gem!!! Barmaid rocks (I think her name is Gina) I hope so because she rocks!!! This is such a fun lil spot with the BEST food!!!! The burger is so beyond good it is amazing!!!!! I recommend this awesome spot all the time!!!!

Came here for a wedding afterparty on a Saturday night. Got there around 8PM. The whole place was very chill but gradually ramped up to a full on night club atmosphere. Bonfire out back. Mini rave on the patio dance floor. Really enjoyed the party scene there.

My favorite bar in Detroit. Great food, great prices. Chill atmosphere without being too cool. They always have great music playing and bring in good local bands and djs. And you cant miss the table shuffleboard.

This place is the worse. They do not take orders over the phone and do not allow carry-out. And possibly racist old lady at bar.I called in to place an order the gentleman on the phone said they do not take orders over the phone. So I came in and met an older white lady about 55-65 years old. I told her I would like to place an carry-out. Before my t can be fully pronounced she said, we dont do carry-outs and she was within seconds at the other end of the bar cleaning glass with her hot breathe. Didnt ask if I wanted to dine in or anything. She just vanished. I wouldnt support a business that hold a practice like this.

The fish-and-chips were amazing, the ginger beer soda was delicious, and the service was great!! What we not gonna leave out, is them having the best ladys lounge in the city, maybe the country. Its a treat to use their restroom lol

Brunch service was beyond horrible. Food wouldve been good if it was hot. Waitress was slow, had no help, didnt know the menu. Wouldnt let us order off the menu because we were with a birthday reservation, set menu didnt have ANY options except eggs, omelets and French toast!

Northern Lights is a wonderful facility and the food is decent there BUT there is an under current of racist staff there. Im not saying they are blatent but their marginalizing attitude towards people in general and even more so towards people of color makes it an unfriendly environment. I wish I were wrong but this has happened 75% of the time.

Always a good spot to check out in new center! Really work to bring in good musicians with an eclectic take, which is always a good time! Newly renovated patio offers an option for enjoying the spring/summer season, and they do have events where you can bring your puppy!

Tons of fun! Went for the brunch, had carafes of super tasty mimosas and an excellent breakfast. Side of fruit completed the meal. Ask for Mariah to be your server; shes awesome! Well be back!!

Expect to wait a bit at the bar for drinks because the place does get busy and people around you are probably hassling the bartenders. Overall the bartenders are awesome, drinks are cheap, and the patio is awesome in the summer. Personal favorites are slinging back cups full of bulliet and washing it down with an icy cool strohs.

The absolute worst service and food. They don’t do carry out AND change 10cent for a Straw ! Definitely ridiculous! I would never put my mouth on a cup and have to be charged for a straw is petty. We barely could get a to go container, I received foil and a paper container without a top. Would never return.

This is a pretty lively place during weekend evenings. During the day, it becomes a chill spot to talk among friends/strangers or just hang solo - you know, if youre into that sort of thing... The food is bar-esque quality, but not terrible. I, personally, like getting the beer-battered chicken tenders and fries or the nachos. Im not much of a drinker at all, nor an alcohol/liquor explorer, so I cannot provide much input on this subject.

Two things 1) their lawnmower martini is the best martini Ive ever had, their food is mediocre 2) service is really sub par. Ive gone several times and I really want to like this place, but the service is pretty terrible. Theyre slow, which is understandable when it is busy, they are not friendly, and on one occasion were rude. So, not a bad bar, its got a unique vibe, but the service kind of sucks.

This is a really fun bar. They have music inside and out. This is a fun place to bring a group, or a great place for a date. Plenty of free parking. Theres a small lot and free on street parking. This is not a huge club, but a big bar with great music an a lot of room to dance. Drinks there are not expensive, so it is a great place to party. The bartenders work really quickly and are friendly. Walking distance from the Q line. Walking distance from Detroits only Amtrak station.

Chicken Taco Salad extraordinarily fresh much like the patio dining sensation at this Detroit staple. Always welcoming with genera reflective of the loyal patronage. Moderate priced food menu seals the good times in a zest of cheers.

Ive been working in the neighborhood for over 25 years. They business spot has stood the worse of times, now in Detroits growing new birth of surrounding business. Like any business as such, it is hard to keep good workers, because of the competition. As far as bad workers, they can cause problems and you have to weed them out.Northern Lights is a good business that thrive to competed, yet never losing their originality. Thats what I like about it. I expect no better and no worse, and if by chance its either day for me, I can always come back and get the better day I desire. I give the business a 4 in rating. I would give it a 5 if their menu honoring Vegan lovers.

I love this spot. Ive been coming here for years. Ive even met Charlie LeDuff here. Hes a great guy. The atmosphere is everything. Lol! I get my own ambient feel in here. Its diverse, has excellent food, excellent music and I top it off with a watermelon martini and a game of shuffleboard😊✌

No one will greet you & forget about being served at your table!!!! You have to go to the bar for anything!!!! Another couple even asked someone clearing table about food and were told they were no longer serving food but were not even asked if they wanted to order drinks!!! Plus no one was sent to their table to check either!!!This is the 2nd time that this horrible service was experienced there!!!! They used to be really good. Dont know what happened!!!!

Went in for burlesque show, paid the $5 cover.Walked in, and the place was dead.Walked around and not one member of the staff acknowledged us.Went to leave and then were informed that the burlesque dancers couldnt make it. Couldnt have said that BEFORE we paid the cover?We got our money refunded which is why I am giving this review 3 stars.

That best describe how I feel about going to Northern Lights but also how some (not all) of the wait staff tends to act when you maybe just want to order some food, a drink, or maybe just a glass of water... They honestly are only getting 3 stars because they do put on good events and can throw a party. So go there for those things and have a drink, its easiest to order from the bar... But I wouldnt recommend going there for food when their busy or have a an event.

Im a member of a Birthday Club that chooses a different Metro Detroit area club/bar to celebrate each month. On Friday we received the worst treatment from this establishment EVER and were asked to leave well we did with the intention to never come back and also to make sure we tell everyone we know to NEVER come to this place again.

Service was excellent and food was pretty good but their drinks were not. I had The Juicy Booty and sent it back because it tasted like medicine. I asked for The Bang and it tasted the same. I will not recommend their mixed drinks to anyone, but the atmosphere was nice.

I was overcharged for a card transaction and lied to multiple times by multiple employees. I remained calm and polite while one employee took the opportunity to imply the amount was trivial. Even the manager was rude amd unhelpful and ultimately refused to refund my money and admit they overcharged me.

The outdoor patio is really the highlight of this place, but the food was pretty good too! We went on a quiet Saturday so we didn’t catch any live music, but I can imagine that it would be great!

Looked like a cool place, but twice I have tried it, and both times was charged a 5 dollar cover, even though there was no entertainment, and tried for an hour to get a drink the first time, before giving up and finding another bar, the second time only waited a half hour for an hour before giving up and moving on. I have been to Northern Lights a few times and I always have a good time. The patio area is really great in the summer when you want to relax outside. It is sort of a hidden gem of New Center.

Northern Lights offers great atmosphere, friendly and professional service, good music, and one of the best patios in Detroit! Drink prices are reasonable and parking isnt a big issue most nights. Its a fun place to take out of town guests as well.

Food is pretty good. Older waitress at the bar provides very poor service every visit. Everyone else is wonderful : ) Comfortable environment to enjoy yourself.

Northern Lights has been a favorite brunch spot of mine for years. I dont make it here as often as I would like, but whenever I do Im always satisfied with the food, the service and the atmosphere.

I was here a few weeks ago and did not have a good time. I use to come here for years(I mean faithfully every weekend) and loved it on Sundays with Karaoke and Phil... Well, it was Phils last night and I hated every moment of that night. People loudly hanging outside smoking who knows what! The random bouncer at the door checking IDs as if I already dont feel safe. I will say I love the updated patio and side door... Too bad it was cold :( The owner personally spoke but it was a bit awkward. I honestly didnt know if he was just saying hi or was I suspicious? #IDK... Put three songs in by 11:30pm and waited until 1:30am before we found out we couldnt sing because of the time. Bar side is packed, however there is only one guy behind it. I remember the days when you could go there and have a tab going, singing all night and not worry. Just not the same maybe ill check them back out in a few years?!!! In the words of Grandma If I live to see it!

Very good ambiance, outside a fire place and alternative music, inside great concerts with the old good stars of motown, or underground bands, I had a fish and ships and fall on the floor, sooooo good, the owner is gread. Very cool and fun service in one word : exellent!

Nice place to have a drink, maybe a bite to eat and hear good music.My friend and I dropped in on the first Tuesday of the month to hear Dennis Coffey play his guitar accompanied with an excellent drummer and gifted keyboardist.Good, but not deep section of beers on tap, extensive selection of bottle beers, wine and full bar.I tried the Maple Bourbon wings with a side of corn bread and was not disappointed. Prices where moderate; $6pint of Guinness, I think a pint of Stella was $4.50. Pitchers are a good deal.No cover, nice section of seating - chairs, high tops, plush round booths. Free parking on street in evening. Full food menu plus a complerte drink menu.I think they have music most evenings starting as early as 8pm. Recommended.

If I could give them a negative, I would. The owner and manager Mike and Mike are so rude and not into customer service. They make excuses for poor service, and when you try to speak to them about it they show and tell you that they DO NOT CARE!!! I would never spend a dime at this terrible place. They should be closed down. They DO NOT represent the flourishing new Detroit that we are trying to create. Believe me, I really hate to be negative, and I tried to have a conversation with mgmt. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE OR CUSTOMERS and they will.prove it to you fast!!!

Overall very nice club and atmosphere bathroom was very clean but only problem i had was the music. The dj didnt play a variety of music he stuck to one kind. When the dj dont know who neyo and lil john is thats a problem

Located next to Pistons training facility, Henry Ford Hospital, Henry Ford Corporate offices, Wayne State, Fisher Theater, new condos, and more....added outdoor patio serves little purpose in winter. I have called several times, sent emails and ever went into the bar trying to get in touch with the owner in regards to hosting an event there its been 3 weeks no one has called or email me back yet......And the bartender did not acknowledge me for 15 minutes the bar war completely empty he walked past me several as if I wasnt standing at the empty bar he continued to talk & have drinks with the other employees at the opposite end of the bar when I finally said something to the bartender about trying to get in touch with the owner MICHAEL he said oh hes not here didnt often to take my information or anything I told him that was very rude and apparently this is NOT the type of place I want to spend my money at I learned never beg anyone to take your money!!!!!!! What the rude bartender didnt realize that the other woman who was with me wanted to host a business & personal event as well at Northern Lights after seeing how unresponsive the owner has been and how rude the staff is she decided to spend her money elsewhere. Word of advice be careful how you treat people you may be throwing thousands of dollars away and future business away. P.S. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM THE OWNER!!!!!!!!

The service is SLOW!!! Chicken strips and fries were really good.
