One of the best 80s experiences youll have. On certain nights they switch it up, but its still a cool experiences. Even has old school arcade games sprinkled about. The owners a soccer fan and lets one of the local clubs host game viewings there every now and then. A definite Weekend destination for groups of friends.
We loved it. It is more for the Gen X types, so the music and clientele reflected such. There was a small VIP section. Instead of having to reserve tables, we were able to navigate the establishment freely and find seating as the crowd was very fluid. Drinks were reasonable and security was present yet not overwhelming. It had a moderate dance floor with video on the wall. There is a second floor balcony above the main bar with a separate bar. The DJ was very approachable for requests or call outs.
It is not a restaurant. It is a nightclub. Mostly visited by the New Wave, Goth, Industrial crowd. Great theme nights. Such as the Madonna themed nights during her recent tour dates in H Town.
This is a great place to go to dance your socks off to a fantastic selection of 80s and 90s hits. The crowd is always fun and very relaxed and the outdoor patio is a great place to catch your breath and conversate. The door guy always has a joke and is pretty helpful with telling you where not to park if you want your car there when you get done partying.
Not the best drinks in town but good enough, but if you are into 80’s music and classic rock, this is the place..great music… this place attracts all kinds of people. It’s fun!
Worst place Ive been to in awhile. Vibe is legit slow and boring. I almost napped on the bar. Right now Im watching people stand on the dance floor. Leaving. Read your crowd.
Extremely disappointed with this bar. What really ruined it was the bartender who decided to be very rude to me. I will preface, I tip large bill cash when I leave an establishment. I tip to reward good service, I do not tip TO RECEIVE GOOD SERVICE. The bartender decided to make it clear to me as I purchased my last drink ever at this establishment that she does not get a pay check and dont I know that? She says this as I reach for her $20 tip. In hindsight, I should have withheld it but I gave it anyways because I do understand they are underpaid. Unfortunately I will never return to this bar again and I will tell everyone I know to not bother going there. Additionally, playing videos of planes crashing with the pilots dying is extremely distasteful. Spend your money somewhere else.
Had a great night out with our friends. Fantastic atmosphere and wonderful staff!
They play good music but they hardly play any actual 80’s dance music, it’s mostly rock
I absolutely adore it here I’m 22 and I grew up listening to all genres of music. This is my favorite spot to go.
Great place to go dance and let loose and best part no cover charge. It isnt the biggest dance floor but trust me you wont be disappointed. The music is always on point it is an 80s nightclub.
The has 80s nights on the weekends; its Marvelous...
Always a great time @ Ectro. Love the vibe. Will definitely be back
Atmosphere is great. Good crowd, good music.. good bartenders.. however its a shame that there are no snacks served, not even crisps...(even if they are chargeable)..strange
Great place to hang, dance and people watch.Go get your drinks from Chris upstairs! Best service!
A very friendly and welcoming place, with a great atmosphere. A good mixture of 80s genre, Gothic, and Dark wave .No cover, great bartenders, and free parking on the street.
The club itself is great! The music has never disappointed. I went there this past weekend (first time at the downtown location) for a wedding after party. We purchased a lot of drinks and always tip bartenders well - they were getting drinks out really well that night. However, I was surprised the next day (sober) to see that they automatically charged a 20% tip on top of the drinks and then we tipped them again (more than 20%) - NOT KNOWING THAT AUTO TIP WAS ON THERE. Not cool Etro - not cool at all!!
Been wanting to hit this bar up for some time. Finally did and was not disappointed at all. Place has two levels and a big dance floor. The music selection is definitely on point with it being an 80’s themed place. The drink prices for a downtown bar are a steal! Nothing but great vibes and a chance to have fun dancing the night away w/your current friends and chances to make new friends!
Good place with great bartenders n staff. But they need to shoot the dj / mj / vj... 95% of the songs are unknown n pathetic. This place is bound to get off the charts if they dont fix their music. 80 n 90s music is their niche but unrelatable selection.
Went last night (Friday) and couldnt stay even an1hr. ..because the DJ is horrible. She plays 80s music that hardly anyone likes. She doesnt seem to take requests and puts a trash can in the entrance to the DJ booth. (Its a bad look). Bring back Rob, he was great. Curly haired bartender is not nice... and doesnt make you feel welcomed. Wont go back until the DJ is replaced. (Miss the old location).
No food at this location just great music
Customer service is lacking big time in this place. Wife and I walked in and stood at the bar for several minutes just to be ignored by both people behind the bar. And we were the ONLY customers in the whole place. Went and took a seat on the sofas for about 15 minutes to just chill and listen to the music and no one ever once approached us to ask if we wanted to order anything. Wont be back. Ill spend my money elsewhere.
Great place to take you back to the 80s
This is a fantastic club and usually plays great music, with a unique crowd of all types! The service is great, and the bouncer, Dave, he is the BEST! He can make you smile when things arent going your way! Thanks Dave!
Always a vibe here. Huge dance floor!
The place is good, 80s but they shouldnt mix so much electronic with the 80, although its a way to attrack people sometimes they must keep the original sound.
The venue is a little bit smaller than youd think, prices on the beers arent the worst but aint that bad either. The 80s music is awesome but the crowd is a bit older as youd expect, so if youre in your 20s looking for other people with the same old school tastes, youll mostly find older crowds here.
The music and videos take me back to when I was in high school. Everyone there is ready to party and have a good time. Drinks are reasonably priced. Place is somewhat small, but it makes it feel cozy... ☺Finding a parking space may be a problem.
I enjoy the venue and the music but I have to agree on some of these reviews about the bartenders. With their s*t attitudes, and Im pretty sure they are taxing the hell out of the drinks. I make it a thing to always carry cash when I go here, this way I can keep track of the actual drink prices because I pretty much order the same drinks every time so I roughly know the price but random occasions they magically change each time..smh.. this is BS. I keep having these instances where the bartenders keep all my change EXCUSE ME!? Thats for me to decide how much I wanna give you based on your s*t service. One day theyre going to f*k with the wrong one doing this kind of BS hustling.
Went on Thurs industrial night and played great music and good crowd but not too crowded. Went back on Saturday and a bit more people but still room to move. Get served quickly and nice folks. Will be back.
Well it was very disappointment because the high cost of the bottles just to have access to the VIP is making worse when they got us an expired cranberry juice and the very untaste Coca-Cola give us the impression that they are… so far the very poor costumer service in 8 blocks around, I guess the owner, well if he/she/they are interested on this reviews, sure go to the others 14 night clubs around this one and learn more about costumers services. We had one of the two VIP down stairs and we have get two bottles and ours the next VIP pay only one, who’s knows why..!I give them two stars because the place and the music was fine, but too expensive place
Great place to hear clasic music
This is Etros second location. Two things that make it difficult and annoying is the location with its parking and the bartenders. It seems to have carried over its previous errors.Best part about Etro us the music and the crowd. Their 80s night is their nights. It could feel welcoming but it doesnt always feel that way. Amongst friends, its fun the dance and hang out at. Their outside section is a drag and too small.I still enjoy attending because I feel comfortable and enjoy the music.
They were supposed to open the dance floor at 9pm. We were daytime bar hopping and looking for a place to dance after sunset. After waiting for it to open, ten minutes into 9... they told us it would be another 20 minutes! Why do they say that they open at 9 but really dont? Why dont they just put it at 9:30? We left, so we didnt see inside or even try a drink.
Dance floors up & downstairs were a bit tiny but makes it cozy and brings 80s music fans & dancers closer. DJ Inertia really put on a great mix all night with his Duran Duran set. The outdoor patio lounge was great for taking a break from all the dancing and for when you want to have a conversation with friends & random strangers! Great place to just dance and not worry about how bad your dancing is. Another drink helps with that. Luckily, Friday nights all 3 bars are open; upstairs, downstairs, & patio.
Went for my first time last weekend with some friends. Its a nice little bar in Montrose. The drinks arent too cheap but the bartender is super cool and I love the music. They were playing House music at the time I went. It was a nice time out during the week.
80s music at it finest. People here are always friendly. I can only go once a month because i live so far away. I uber here because the first time I went my car was towed. I recommend paying cash for drinks as you go cause i believe i was charged more than what i drank on my tab. Was with a group of friends
Love this place!! Great atmosphere, older crowd and the music was on point! Danced the night away 💃🏻🕺🏻
The atmosphere is super nice and they even have arcade games. The only thing that ruins the experience is the bartenders. They seem super annoyed and seem to hate their jobs. It really kills the urge to buy any more drinks. If you avoid the bar, then this place is great
First time to visit the new ETRO, and it was absolutely the funnest date night EVER for my husband and I. We jammed the night away to the best 80s music, the crowd was mostly over 30, the drinks were pretty stout, so I definitely got moneys worth. $50 tab and lots of fun, not too bad!
Was an alright place. Vibe was 80s, so if you into 80s music, you must visit. Drinks were pricy. Water was so expensive...🙃
Very Primitive place. Uncivilized security. Why should a security be policing people at the dance floor? . Very uncomfortable to stand behind me as if I’m being followed. Because your head touches the ceiling I should be scared? …. Because I’m black? Why don’t you follow everyone els around? How much are you paid to act that stupid? Pls, stay at the entrance and do your job well. All people come to etro to do is to have fun and not to feel threatened. It is a free world! Under civilization is a painful disease.
Had a great time celebrating my friends 39th birthday this past Saturday! None of us had ever been to the club, but we heard great reviews. LOVE the music, videos shown for each song, DJ took requests, bartenders were very accomodating, great outside area, cant say enough good things about the experience. Videos like New Order, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Book of Love, Madonna, Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, Erasure MADE OUR NIGHT! I dont go clubbing like I used to, but I highly recommend this club to anyone who loves the 80s!
Fun retro bar in downtown Houston.
I really like Etro because of the music, the crowd, and bouncers! The bouncers at Etro are just fun loving people. The crowd is usually a mix of older partiers, younger parties, hipsters, and anyone looking to have a good time! I feel like Etro is a place for anyone! The music is techno, 80s, pop mix which makes it very fun. Youll find people doing fun dances on the dance floor! I think this is different kind of club/bar where anyone is guaranteed to have fun
I went their for St. Patricks day and didnt have a good time. Their dj is horrible. Doesnt know how to talk to guest when they approach him. Claims he doesnt have a large selection of music. So I learned just because it says etro doesnt mean they play 80s / early 90s music. Lessoned learned.
As a former Austinite, I am comforted to know that we have fun 80s music lounges in the Montrose area! I am not a big fan of electronic, techno but it is something I can appreciate. The bouncer is extremely friendly and loving life. The dance floor a bit tiny but its a great place. Friendly people for the most part. Bartenders could be a tad nicer but maybe it was an off night... You do not have to worry about bros that come to bars to pick up chicks. The drinks are reasonable so drinks, be merry and dance the night away.
A great mix of 80s mainstream classics with a middle class crowd ages late 20s to early 40s. The bar has limited beer but decent prices on drinks and even has Woodford Reserve.
First timer, friend and I had a blast the music was on point 80s with background video. Never got off the dance floor, the drinks were great and the staff was friendly. This is one of my favorite spots in htown...
Great club, the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is the cocktails we ordered did not taste good at all.
Stopped in Saturday evening, on a whim, and the place was packed. Awesome music, great atmosphere and beautiful people. The upstairs was chill and good drinks all around. Will be going back for sure!
When Im with you baby,I go out of my head...and I just cant get enough. And I just cant get enough.-Depeche ModeIndeed, I just cant get enough of Etro! I normally go with anywhere between 1 and 10 other people and either way I always have a great time. I feel like the place is divided into 4 parts:1 - The downstairs has its bar. It gets really busy and bustling and youre always bound to meet someone new.2 - Whereas the other side of the room consists of a dance area, and some corners to sit and jam out at. The opposing wall is used for projected 80s movies. Occasionally theyll hook up the Atari for some good ol Pacman or Space Invaders. I personally like to grab a Connect 4 or Battleship from the bartender and see how long I can drink till I start losing against my friends.3 - Upstairs is a much more relaxed lounge area. If I really want to talk to someone and get into some deep conversation over a drink and some He-Man, I go upstairs where they have a smaller version of the downstairs bar and some very comfortable retro tron-looking couches. I spend the majority of my time upstairs or...4 - You might find me downstairs outside in the smoking area. Most people outside have the common goal of killing themselves slowly in mind and everyone at Etro is basically grown-up and mature and good to get along with. I spend a lot of time on the patio bumming cigarettes, meeting cool people, then going on inside to continue my business upstairs. Its very casual out there. If only they had more chairs. The drinks are great and the bar tenders try their hardest to make you what you are asking for, or what youre craving. I love the service. As busy as theyve been getting, due to new management, they are maintaining really well. And lastly... whats better than letting your guard down over a couple drinks among friends and singing along with your favorite 80s songs? Nothing, thats what. If you want to meet cool folks, enjoy some great drinks, and get ejected back to the 80s for a few hours... then do what my friends and I do---...we slip and slide as we fall in love. And [we] just cant seem to get enough of... you know the rest right?
Great safe space to dance on Thursday nights in Downtown Houston. Thursdays are for the darker side of things 80s, Industrial, Goth, EBM and current styles as well.Never a cover and always a fun dancefloor!
Place was ok only bc of music, however the mixed drinks are very weak. They serve you bottom shelf vodka and charge you for Titos. Told the bartender bout the weak drink and didnt care. I guess they dont care to have customers come back. Because of that i wont come back. Plenty of other places to buy drinks. Oh, they dont sell shots so forget it!!
Always a diverse crowd and a good time, dancing to mostly 80’s music. They have something going on here since many places in the vicinity are empty while they are packed.
Great staff. Best eighties music ever (except for my music which is okay b/c my musical taste is better than everyones; especially yours) Just awesome place and people, cant go wrong here.
This DJ needs to be replaced ASAP. Just because songs have drums in it doesnt mean they are good for dancing. Common, where is Duran Duran (Rio, Come Undone), Simple Mind, C&C Music Factory... ? WTH, everything played is of the same beat. Mostly cheese stuff. Stay at home and dance to your own selection.
One of the best 70s/80s bar. Everytime Ive gone it hasnt been too crowded, just perfect. The music is the main reason to go!
Used to be a great bar in Montrose, but now they have enacted a very discriminatory age restriction. I’ve been going to etro with friends for years, spent New Years there the last two years, and this is what the bar gives us back in return.Once a staple of the Houston bar scene, now just another lame downtown nightclub.
Very boring and the service is horrible.
Great layout and crowd. But they didnt really play dance music, even for the 80s. Also the bartenders take forever and can be unnecessarily dismissive.
Great time! Sang all the words to every song and never sat down, danced my butt off! Great for a fun date night or a girls night out.
The best place to hear and Dance to the best 80s music not that crap you get at that other place in Mid town.. Great bartenders.. Great crowd and the DJs are the best...
I was originally very proud and excited to hear that Etro was moving to Downtown, in the hopes of remaining an iconic Houston 80’s establishment and keeping the Montrose spirit of acceptance and inclusivity alive and well. Come to find out, I was unable to partake in the experience due to an outrageous and arbitrary 24 & Up policy for their clientele. This entirely unacceptable and disappointing to the many of us who have been patrons of Etro for years. I hope that they can reform this policy and restore their inclusive nature.
Awesome music, great drinks. Dance floor is small and the place is hot when it gets crowded. Overall had a great time!
This place was very chill until I was attacked and the staff did nothing and let the person go
Fun 80s music and videos! Good drinks and friendly staff!
Absolutely terrible experience. the bouncer was a dick and wouldnt let me bring in my laptop and called me a terrorist, they double charged my drinks, and the sound system sucks. i will never go here again.
Rudest bartender ever met
Love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love the 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s 80s.Etro is cool hang out for 80s and 90s. Very unassuming place and the patrons are not pretentious, despite it being an 80s theme. Bah hahaha!Go there, dont think about it anymore. Go.
Place is great if you love 80’s music. Staff is always friendly and it’s never over crowded.
Really awesome club if you like a slightly older mature crowed no drama good security and perfect music 👌
This place is great if youre into 80s music. Its super chill great atmosphere!
I love 1980s music and this place is awesome!!!!
Not big enough on the first floor for live music and too pricey for the quality
Too over priced. But if you want to enjoy the retro vibe. Go for it...
Had great time, beer is pricey, Dos XX $7 a bit high but, music is great!!!
Pretty cool adult atmosphere, great 80s music, the drinks are just okay
Quality 80s alternative dance music in a small, tucked-away space behind Anvil. Always a great time!
Awesome! Great dance place. I highly recommend it.
Drinks are definitely overpriced, but great atmosphere
This Bar is the bom dot com! 😜 Definitely will be coming back I had so much fun and the people were incredibly friendly 😊
The beverages right here are average flavor and fair price I suppose. If you look for an area for dancing then here is one.
My favorite place to hang out and DANCE !!! Drinks are awesome as well!
Get a DJ that plays the HITS. Not random music that no one knows. Also, please stop mixing songs with random songs.
Always a fun crowd, laid back staff, love the bouncer out front! One of the best places in montrose
Music was great and dancing was a lot of fun. The place is a bit small so it can get crowded.
Horrible music! Definitely not 80’s type! Awesome drinks though!
Step right back into the 80s at this lovely Montrose staple! Patio, upstairs, dance floor, 80s movies and videos, yesss, soak it all in.
Dance floor a little tight, but they played awesome music...bartenders were quick & poured nicely!
I liked the old location, music still good it just lost the magic.... same music, the best of 80’s
Yeah, they play oldies, but never the hi energy house music we used to dance to in the 80s or 90s, they all ignore it.
Great music. No AC and small. Wondering what the new location is like.
Good for shots, not for cocktails. Mixed crowd can get weird. Close to a lot of better bars.
How old do.you have to.be to enter? IM 20 AND MY NESTFRIEND IS 21 ...WE LOVE 80S MUSIC. LOL
Good dance club with plenty of 70/80 musics. Place is a little bit too small when it get crowded.
Great music, great bartenders.
Fun place for pop 80s/commercial new wave. Small dance floor, but hey its free.
Always fun. Fun music. Chill vibe. Never a cover. Great place.
Great upgrade for the beloved Montrose dancing spot, big spacious lofty home, and good old tunes.
There will always be haters out there... if one is nice to their bartender and wants to have a good time then etro will deliver!
Fun little 80s theme place. Pretty good drinks with some unusual people there.
Great place, lots of happy peoples, young and old. Every body dance 😀
Good music!! Different. All kinds of people!! Nice lounge upstairs
Nice bar, went with a friend for an event. Love the free arcade they have
Always have a great time here, great music and fun folks
Like a new wave ( rather then industrial ) version of Numbers ... Do head warnings about parking though ...
Awesome bartenders, great music, superb atmosphere, cool DJs, and fun people.
80’s and 90’s music, very nice staff and environment,
There’s more to 80s than Depeche Mode…. Just saying.
Usually pretty good for Friday and Saturday, nice 80s theme.
Dance floor area is mad small. The 80s night was cool
Loved the new location, crowd, environment and real cool bartenders....
Imagine being so lame you have to leave a review on a club. Oh wait....fk! Nevermind
Last week at this location. Moving onto a new place! Lets hope thats its both the same and better!
Visited from Atl and it was mixed vibes and everyone was friendly.🥰
I loved it here! First time and i had a blast
The place to be other than #s if you want to hear 80s dance music.
Good crowd. Perfect place for people of 30s and 40s.
Great experience! Cool Staff, laid-back, great toons!
Good place for 80s music and dance floor
My favorite spot in Houston, love the Retro 80 tunes!!!
Good 80s music but older crowd
Don’t know what happened to the vibe, $16 cocktails (guess they have to pay the rent) compared to the old location.
Was old school very nice will always go for the rest of my life
Great vibe. Awesome place to get your 80s game on.
Best place for 80s music and dancing in Houston
Cool environment. Nice people. 80s club
Nasty staff. Go somewhere if want to be treated as a customer. Bartenders are rude!
My favorite spot for a night of 80s dancing and drinks!
Fantastic staff and wonderful owner! The place to be for 80s in Houston.
LOVE Etro! Great music! Professional staff!
Love what they did with this place just like the old place but better will be coming back
Average music, upscale people pretending they can dance
Fun and groovy place for 80s dance music
This is the worst bar in montrose. They completely discriminate ! Never go here!
Enjoyed going as always. Had a great time!
Great music, great people...Had a blast!!!!!
Whether its empty or packed, I always have fun!!
Fun Montrose dance spot.Known for 80s dance music.
Crappy music, pricey cover, unfriendly staff.
Why did they move it from Montrose? Not liking the new location.
A blast to visit dance to all the jams from the 80s
Bartenders sucks! But music its good.
Honestly, Very Bad people, Very Very Bad Vibe !!
Great Vibes, friendly crowd
Had some crazy nights there. Only go when full.
Second Sunday with Tifa Tittlywinks and Timebomb Tina!
Fun time to listen to 80s music!
Time machine back to the 80s. So much fun!

Nice place with retro feel & music!
Best 80s music in Downtown Houston!
It says its closed but its open! ❤️
Cool place to listen to the 80s music.
Fun place but sort of dirty.
Cheesy place with a crowd lacking character. Poor drinks.
Amazing 80s & 90s music
Its not Retro Music every night...
You have to be 24 now... what a joke lol not a fan anymore
Super nice and the bartenders rock
Great late night 80s tunes
Great 80s music!!
Always a good time, but gets crowded
The spot to go to for all the 80’s babies!!

Moving to downtown at the end of July. Who knows how itll be.
Hooray for 8 dollar drinks night!
