For an out of towner, this was a spectacular experience. Loved the food and welcoming service.I was struck by how diverse the crowd was in age and social group types. The menu was also diverse; its not just pub food, because chicken masala and French onion soup really elevate the kinda of foods available.
My first three visits several years ago to this restaurant were amazing. Beautiful carpet beautiful draperies elegant tablecloths professionally dressed staff at some point it did change hands or had to do owners they kept their specials in the prime rib was amazing 3 years in trying to get to the prime rib at a dinner hour or the pot roast on a Sunday and they are always sold out or dont have any how does a restaurant not plan for this its not as though Im getting there at 9:00 Im getting there between 5:00 and 6:00 a dinner hour the bathrooms were very clean Ill give them that but the servers attitudes are very poor the tables were dirty and sticky there is no carpeting just adhesive I guess were carpeting used to be
English Ivy met all my expectations. Everything about the meal was enjoyable. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our prime rib (Friday special) meals. Found a new favorite eating establishment. Will return often.
Ive been here a lot and Ive tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed! Their Friday night prime rib is fantastic and reasonably priced. They have a fun atmosphere and every month they have Bag Lady Bingo to raise money for charity, it is a hoot!
Just left this restaurant and I must say, what an amazing place to dine. It’s located in a very cute neighborhood that looked clean and very well renovated. The decor and food of this restaurant was amazing. The server was very polite and did not make us feel rushed. Will definitely be returning when we are back in the area.
The buffalo chicken pizza was super tasty! It had crispy chicken pieces, plenty of blue cheese, rosemary leaves, and a thin but not too thin crust. I got takeout and added some franks sauce for more of a kick. The staff was very kind even though they were super busy for dine out to end HIV. Service only took about 30 minutes. Would love to come again!
My party decided to go to English Ivys during Dining Out for Life (supporting Damien Center). We had never been before, and didnt realize how busy they would be on this specific day. When we arrived, we saw a sign that they could only take reserved tables from 5-8pm, due to the immense influx of guests who had thought ahead, unlike myself. However, when we arrived, we were kindly asked if we would mind sitting outside on the patio. It was a beautiful day, and we were able to join a guest who was already seated at a table.Despite the extremely busy situation, our server was VERY gracious, checking in on us regularly, explaining the menu, and keeping us apprised on the status of our food. His night was just starting, and I know he was swamped, but I couldnt have asked for better service. As for the food, we ordered a few appetizers (French onion soup, nachos, and wings), followed by a club sandwich, the Alabama Cuban sandwich, and the tenderloin/scallop special. The French onion soup was superb. The broth was beefy with sweetness from the caramelized onions. It was so good that my daughter stole my cup of soup, and then ordered another at the end of the meal. The nachos were good, and I would say they would be a highlight in the pub fare for most bars, but was overshadowed by the wings and French onion soup that excelled here.Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their main entrees. The club sandwich was executed well, with crispy toasted bread and fillings that were fresh. The Alabama Cuban looked phenomenal and my sister, freshly home from living abroad, said she missed a good Cuban. I imagine it was a win in her opinion. My tenderloin/scallop special was nothing short of spectacular. It was served with mashed potatoes. The meat was topped with a chimichurri sauce that highlighted the scallops and beef equally well. It is rare to find a single sauce that will work well with both beef and shellfish, but this did the job nicely.English Ivys might have the best pub food I have tried in town. The service was impeccable (despite very trying circumstances with how busy the establishment was). The food pricing was remarkably low. I get that the drinks may be the primary source of revenue for this place, but I still would have expected the food to cost more than it did. For the price, I would have expected typical bar fare. Instead, what we got was top shelf food and service at well prices.
This place is the best! A true treasure and asset of the Indy GLBT community.I moved to Indy in 2011 and English Ivys was the first GLBT bar / restaurant I visited. It has consistently been one of the most friendy and welcoming places in the city. The food is great and moderately priced. The staff are superb. Its the perfect place to get together with friends. No attitude whatsoever. Its always a pleasure to visit English Ivys.
Why is English Ivys a world class gay bar and restaurant? This old guy who was in the business in San Francisco 40 years ago can tell you why, and Ill keep it simple with power points.1. The food is very good and it is reasonably priced. The fries are excellent. So is the booze.2. The place is very attractive and the bathrooms are clean.3. The 5 TVs in the bar are each set to different interesting channels.5. The crowd is very diverse.6. One of the owners, Jeff, continually works the crowd from behind and in front of the bar, but he is always aware of the room and keeps the music at a very tolerable level. The music is also good. You can dance and eat to it.7. There are lots of windows in the bar and dining room. Lots of free parking.8. There are virtually no knats and no ugly bottle cappers to prevent them that look like rubbers, which you certainly dont need in a gay bar.9. The staff are professional and you also see lots of kids here which is great.10. My only problem is with the wine which should honor the good food. It doesnt. It is one of Gallos off brands. Gallo, which is the worlds largest winery by volume, and has 99 labels under its wing, sells 35 billion bottles a year. The Gallo family itself is worth $12.4 Billion. They are very proud of their name and their reputation. The one thing they will not do is jeopardize that name. Regardless of the price, you will never see Gallo on a bottle of wine that is not very drinkable. So all they need do at Ivys is to buy the least expensive wine with Gallos name on it and it will do the job of honoring the very good food at the restaurant. I know theyll do this soon.
New to town and have enjoyed the three visits we’ve had already. Friendly, easy going service. The menu is great and the crowd is fun.
Sounds as if attention is emergent on your roof. We came in as regulars today only to face water flooding in the dining room, entrance hallway (ankle deep), but most of all - your kitchen took on so much water you stopped serving and withheld food for an undetermined amount of time. Highly distraught at how damage is so severe but staff has no idea whats going on.
I’m sorry I didn’t take any pictures but this establishment has fantastic food and great service. Zach was our server and he kept up on everything. We never had to ask for a refill or anything. Curtis, who ran the bar, made sure we were seated and promptly waited on. If you are looking for fast food, don’t go here. Everything made from scratch. Everything is fresh. You will love whatever you order.
I was honestly going there for the peanut butter pie and ended up ordering all kinds of things highly recommended I started off with 2 beers and a water it was one of those days lol.. I then ordered the loaded Tater Tots!!! Ohhhhh my was I impressed!!! I haven’t tasted anything like those since the loaded baked potato bites from Arby’s. At that moment I knew I found a special little place to come to… they are so good hands down this what gives them 5 stars from me… not to mention I ordered a Crispy Chicken Salad and it came with basically everything I enjoy on a salad. Ate the end I was to full to eat the peanut butter pie but I did order it and took it home and ate it for a late night snack and it was worth the trip for the peanut butter pie!! My girlfriend and I will be back for sure
I was visiting a friend, I did not arrive until late in the evening and I was starving because I have not eaten all day. He suggested this restaurant which I was so hungry I really wasnt particular. This is where my words will fail me. There was a group gathering there and they were having an excellent time and you could tell they were having an excellent time and I loved it. You want to go to a place that you see people enjoying themselves. You could feel the atmosphere of this restaurant from the outside. I knew the minute I walked in the door that this restaurant was going to be burned into my memory for the rest of my life. A little background about myself is that I am a Navy vet I sampled every bit of food I could think of from every country Ive ever been to. And my waiter who was incredibly wonderful. Will probably remember me just by this story alone. When my dinner came out to me I had ordered the chicken marsala. I have been to Italy four times in my life and Ive had chicken marsala twice while I was in Italy. Theirs is the closest tasting recipe to what I had in Italy. He had a wonderful creamier twist to it but it makes me wish that I did not have such a small stomach because I would have eaten every square inch of my order. Dont worry it did not go to waste it was brunch the next day and it was just as good and just as flavorful. This is a place I will long for when I am home in VA. It was beyond an experience.Oh one of my waiters The gentleman with a white beard... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOF!!!!!
Service with a smile! 😀 But legitimately one of the best places for brunch and watching formula 1 and any other sports, super accommodating for F1/tennis/Olympics/sports at the bar and great food, wonderful people
I wen to this place with a good friend. Haven’t been to this location in years. I was pleased at the stellar amount of customer service received from our waitress Ms. Violet. She was attentive, energetic and provided service with a smile. Brad and Chris provided the best Long Island beverage I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere was great and food was served piping hot. This may be one of Indy’s best kept secrets. See you soon. Great job.
First of all I was unaware of the type of restaurant this was but the food was awesome and the service was phenomenal. Walked in with another couple, we are in town for our daughter’s volleyball tournament, and noticed the place was mainly all male. I do not judge so we sat down and experienced one of the best meals we had in a while. So if you gay or a straight man with his family, please do not hesitate to stop in.
Wednesdays Only - They Have A Chicken Dinner Special 🐔 U Gotta Try😋 (Not That EVERYTHING On The Menu Isnt 😋DELICIOUS😋EVERYDAY They Have Gr8 Drinks 🍸🍷🍹🍻🥂🥃 DELICIOUS Food🍽 & AWESOME Staff🤗🫶🏾🤗
Happened across this gem. Not a resident of Indy, but try and make a visit when I’m in town. Very friendly staff and customers. Truly an open venue. The Lasagna is my favorite.
The bartender was absolutely nice and the atmosphere with the patrons is more than great. However, I was not as pleased with my meal as I thought I would be. I had the surf and turf special and the Mac and Cheese was a bit too funny for my taste and the steak was way too well done. However, for the atmosphere and drinks, I will definitely return
The food is incredible, consistent and priced fairly, as are the drinks. The service is always solid. A true staple to the neighborhood and LGBTQ+ community alike.
A great place to watch some Colts football. Unfortunately, they lost their playoff game. Thankfully, the drinks and food made the loss worthwhile! It was only an extra $1.50 to make your vodka sodas a tall and man were they tall! The wings were pretty good, but not amazing. The breaded pork tenderloin sandwich was amazing though! I would go back here once a week for this sandwich! Its not one of those embarrassingly large sandwiches, but large enough to get you full. The meat was thick and juicy with great flavor! I spent an extra $3 for a side of tater kegs. They were good, but not worth $3 for three tater kegs. If youre in the area and want an amazing tenderloin sandwich, stop on in. You wont regret it!
The food has gone downhill BIGTIME, they served me a waffle and it had burnt waffle bits from previous waffles in it. It literally looked like a chocolate chip waffle, but unfortunately it wasn’t. Then I figured out they have a wonky oven when I took a bite of my biscuit and it had an overwhelming taste of raw flour. Not to mention I basically wait an half an hour for food I would serve to my dog for fear on them getting sick.
Food is great, drinks are cheap, staff is welcoming of anyone. I was in from out of town and I hung out here several nights.
I had the breaded tenderloin sandwich. It was the best meat between buns Ive ever had here! (sad, but true).
First of all let’s just say waitress and staff were amazing. Oh my gosh, our waitress returned to the table multiple times to make sure everything was fine. Huge, huge thumbs up for them. Now for the food. We had the wing special, Asian delight which were tasty, along with the barbecue- 6 of each. Additionally we had nachos for a side which were delicious. Lots of chicken throughout the entire plate. The dining area was dark, but not dingy rather intimate with ample room between tables.Great first impression to Indianapolis. We will be back.
I absolutely love this place. I came here on the recs from my neighbors and the food was fantastic! Portions are great (I ordered the three tacos-they came with salsa verde that was BOMB), drinks are reasonable, and the atmosphere is lovely. I think Ill make this a regular hangout. Its a great place to eat and pregame before visiting late-night events.
Me + my girlfriend (!!! first girlfriend!!:)) came in yesterday. i was a bit nervous having not been here before so i appreciated how patient and kind our server was with questions and ordering. the bar and restaurant itself is well decorated.would just like to say thank you to kitchen staff/cooks because the food was wonderful. she ordered the chicken tenders/fries and i got the margherita pizza (with roasted tomato added on top, which is THE best way ive ever had it) and we were impressed with the quality and portion sizes.well definitely come back.
Gay-friendly. Lunch was delicious. Free parking in the back.
This has to be my all-time favorite spot! Anytime friends want to get together, this is the place we want to come to. The food has never disappointed and Im there at least once a week. Chicken tenders are the best ever and Prime Rib Friday are favorites, not to mention the weekend Brunches! Friendly and welcoming environment to all with an abundance of positive vibes!
I love this place. My co-worker and I visit 2-3 times weekly for lunch and it’s the best value and food downtown. The staff are amazing and welcoming; a true Indianapolis gem! Thank you!
My partner got a taco salad & loved it.. I got a sirloin dinner & loved it as well! It was Sunday around 10pm and there was a good crowd.Great service, loved the vibe, and delicious food! This is our new go to spot.
I dont understand how this place exists. An INEXPENSIVE, NICE, AND GOOD place to go is just kind of unheard of. This is the reason to live in a small city... Tiny gems like this. I dont know how they pay their rent because I just had a full meal including appitzers and booze (enough to get me tipsy) for $40.Our server handled a fussy queer table of 9 like we were nothing. Special orders, fine. Seperate checks, no problem. Betsey T was no nonsense, friendly and fabulous. Give that girl a raise! Oh... And the food was the best we had all weekend. Its not Michelin star; but its bloody $18 an entree!!!!GO HEREEAT HEREDRINK HEREQueer. Bearish crowd. Simple decor. An absolute GEM
First time in this morning, and we can’t wait to go back! Mitch was our server, and he was great! Can’t say enough good things about the food! So, so good!!
Meh.Came for our daughter’s 21st birthday. Food was fine, but not worth the price at all. Service was fine, but when the 21 year old and her girlfriend who have never ordered a drink asked for help from the waiter he basically said “add vodka to whatever”… they asked more questions, I tried to help the waiter with some suggestions to no response. The girls ended up ordering two drinks off of the “specials” menu and hated both. No interest in doing anything at all soecial for her birthday… not even an offer of desert… didn’t even try to sell us on desert. The birthday was never even acknowledged. Wife and I also ordered off the special menu drink menu and our drinks were garbage well drinks. I would have left the whole experience thinking “meh”… but the bill was almost $200 after a tip. Unreal. I’ve eaten some of the best meals of my life for $200…The menu is all over the place. Salmon, tacos, pasta, etc. No theme just a bunch of random dishes. None of us were impressed with anything we ordered. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t anything worth remarking on.The whole experience was “meh” at best. Might be a fun bar to go out and party at, I can’t speak to that because I’ve not done that, but for a dinner location… you can do a LOT better. Skip this joint if you’re looking for more than an over priced basic bar with basic food and boring service.
Hands down my favorite neighborhood bar! Super friendly staff, Great food, and welcoming environment! Wont specify staff names but shout out to everyone who works so hard for our community, thank you for all you do!!!!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
This place is an Indianapolis must! Great owners and staff. Top notch food, drinks, and service. Dont sleep on this emerald. Its majestic!
The owners of the best lunch restaurant in Lawrence recommended this place and they were absolutely correct on singing its praises! The service was exceptional, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the lasagna and it was marvelous. This is our new go to place for dinner, drinks, and a fabulous time !
Stopped by for my first time on a break and ordered a drink, was oddly singled out for ordering the beverage I did. Beverage was improperly mixed and wine selection left a LOT to be desired (Im available for consulting for a nominal fee!). I ordered a pizza margherita which was also oddly put together (sun dried tomatoes does NOT belong on a margherita pizza, once again, Im available for consulting) and it had a very weird gritty sand like texture. The beer from Sun King was great since it was just a can and served as the brewer intended. The atmosphere was welcoming and I enjoyed my conversation and did not feel too out of place despite a couple of off handed comments that wearing a suit brought. Regardless, I think English Ivys was acceptable.
English Ivys was one of my favorite LGBT restaurants to eat here in Indy when I moved to the city in 2013.I never had an issue with the staff waiting on me. The restaurant prides itself on that so I will give them that. However, I recently began to notice after new management took over how small the portions of food became. Especially on their Surf n Turf.My food barely covered the plate and wasnt much for $20. I will give them the benefit of the doubt if it has a lot to do with shrinkflation happening in many restaurants in the food industry. But I felt like the portions of my sides were smaller than usual. My waitress that was attentive and very kind despite the service.Hopefully Im not the only one who noticed how small the forces of food are getting? The food, to me, tastes good but I feel like I can get more food anywhere else for the same price.
Was just in there had the Alabama Cuban delicious. Yall are great thanks. Drinks were on point.
There is a bald waiter who’s extremely rude every time we go in. It doesn’t matter the time of day. He’ll always have an attitude and if you complain to the staff about him, they’ll call you overly sensitive.
I was at this location for supper. I had the honey and ginger glazed salmon. Oh my God! It was so good!!I will definitely go back to this pub and get this meal again. I will say that the salmon was a bit expensive but its well worth it.
Deviated from my usual spot to try something new I stay right around the corner from this bar. Ordered a burger with fries.. burger wasnt exactly what I ordered but chose to eat it anyways.. it tasted fine and everything but shortly after my gut didnt agree with the food. Had to make myself vomit just to feel better. Idk if it was the quality of food or what but Ill be returning to try something different. Heard lots of good things about this place but of course my first meal there gave me issues lol. Ill be back!!
After visiting the president, Benjamin Harrison home, my wife and I went there for the recommended fried pork tenderloin and cheese curds. Awesome. Hope I dont have a heart attack. Oh and also a local Sun King beer. Lol.
I had the tenderloin sandwich an fries w a side of white cheddar Mac n cheese. The sandwich was juicy an not dry an well over the size of the bun but not enormous and awkward to eat. I was only able to eat half my sammich an half the Mac n cheese. 1 of the best carryout meals I have had in a long time.
The drinks were cheap and tasted better than any of the other bars we went to. The staff was very nice
A group of friends and I ate here when we took a road trip to Indie from out of state. It was such a friendly and lively place. The pork tenderloin was great! It was the classic Midwestern food that we came for. Happy hour was a great deal, the drinks were cheap and stiff.A couple months later, Im still thinking about this place!
Food and drinks were fantastic! However, I did not feel safe here alone or with my friends — hence the 3 stars. During the duration of my Tuesday night out, my friends and I were harassed by a drug addict who not only followed me around and yelled inappropriate things but also banged on the bathroom door when I was in there. With this said, inclusive spots should be safe spots. While the man roamed in and out of the pub for several hours, there really should have been more done to prevent this man from bothering myself and other patrons.
The environment seemed okay but I didn’t like how the server refused to make eye contact with me. Only offered my friend refills or condiments. It’s like I wasn’t even sitting there, just my White friend’s existence acknowledged. The kicker is that I was paying for everything and when he saw that he finally offered me a refill of water after we had already eaten all of our food. This place may be LGBT friendly but when it comes to servicing Black customers people automatically assume we’re broke and don’t make any money. I’m known to be a big tipper but I get tired of being the bigger person tipping something instead of nothing just to prove I’m a working class citizen REGARDLESS of me being a PERSON OF COLOR!
Great service even with a large party there.Taco salad was great, 10/10 would get again but would ask for more salsa. My only minus was the cheese curds which were ok but I expect fresh mozzarella when I order them. They were good but not “cheese curds” in the real sense.Enjoyed my first visit, will be back! xx
I decided to some up all of my experiences at English Ivys is this revised review.Ive had some good days there and some not so good days. Recently, I had to wait an hour before someone came back to the table I wanted food, but just asked for my check. Sadly, I admit not leaving a tip, even though I only had a $2 drink. However, Ive had great experiences there well; especially during their weekend brunches. You just have to realize that things happen. As long as theres a respectable dialogue, any problem can be solved. Its a great place, so give it a chance! Youll love it!
My wife and I moved in just down the street in 2019, and have been frequenting Ivys ever since. It is the quintessential neighborhood pub, and ever since new owners Jeff and Sam have taken the reigns it has been an even more enjoyable experience each time we stop in! The staff is incredibly friendly, the food is great, and the general ambiance is always a great time. I cant recommend Ivys enough to anyone looking to stop in for a bite or drink.
What an amazing meal-amazing service and hospitality from Chucky and the kind owner Jeffrey. Drinks were amazing -they even comped our drinks because we were celebrating our anniversary. We had the seared ahi, boom boom shrimp and the 8oz steak. To drink Mike had the Brandy Alexander and I had the “Cherry cola “ specialty drink. Ya’all nailed it!! Thank you!
Dennis was an amazing waiter! This was our first time going and he definitely made it a great experience for us! I proposed to my partner of 10yrs. It was a wonderful environment and atmosphere for this occasion. Thank you Dennis for your wonderful service, we will absolutely be back to see you!
This used to be one of my favorite places. I had my first date with my husband here and we would come for date nights most every Friday. The food and drinks were always decent and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Since the new owners took over the place has gone quickly down hill. We had nearly inedible under cooked pizza one night and one Friday they were out of prime rib, the special for the night, by 7:30. We got New York strip instead, mine was fair but my husbands was rare on one side and burned on the other and they had no more New York strips left after completing our orders. At least the waiter was understanding and comped one of our meals. Drinks are less strong and poorly made. We gave it 3 strikes and can no longer justify going. It is sad that this neighborhood icon is no longer gay-owned and will likely be closing soon if things dont improve.
Longtime regular, first time reviewer. Love everything about this place...great staff, strong drinks, fun jukebox playlist, and the best chicken tenders in the world. French onion soup hits the spot too.
I went in, was told by the server that I could sit anywhere, and then was ignored for at least 20 minutes. No water, no menu.. I watched another table get menus, drinks, and have their order taken. Still no acknowledgement I was even there. So I left and won’t be back. While I think that server could easily have brought me a menu - regardless of how busy it was - it did seem like it was one server for the floor for brunch which is also ridiculous. Shame.
Great place! Can get crowded, but after a visit or two you will understand why that is so. The pub staple here is the breaded tenderloin sandwich and Ivy had a reliably tasty one. After a short bit of turmoil with the ownership it is still a must visit, well priced, friendly staffed downtown eatery.
Baseball sirloin was excellent. I was concerned at first look that it wouldn’t be cooked properly due to the thickness of the cut, but was cooked perfectly.
Haven’t been in awhile but always a good experience and great food and i love to watch people. This place is always hopping with many beautiful people
My husband & I go to English Ivy when we are in the neighborhood. The customer service is always really good and the food is always good and fresh. We enjoy going there because its something different from the hustle and bustle of a larger chain restaurant and the service is always excellent. People are always friendly and welcoming.
Had to wait more than an hour to have our orders taken and then another hour and a half to two hours to get the food. Someone at my table never even got their food and they only ordered a grilled-cheese. Their food is expensive and bland tasting. The enviornment is nice but i dont plan on coming back in the near future.
This place has literally THE BEST bar food Ive ever had in my life!Ive grabbed food consistently now for coworkers and myself working my way down the menu. Something Ive never had anywhere else that this place offers are Taterkegs, which are essentially an order of giant tater tots stuffed with bacon and cheese! Get it with their ranch dipping sauce. - cutting my review off here because literally everything Ive had has been amazing! They have specials that are epic as well, like Tuesday, where youll get an additional appetizer for only 2 dollars with an appetizer purchase, same deal for their burgers!Friendly and helpful staff, food is ready pretty quickly, and considering the consistency of the quality, its going to be a long time before Im ready to eat anywhere besides here.Just check it out if your hungry for great food, youll be glad you did.
Decent comfort food, though I was troubled by the fact that our server overcharged us by $20 bucks for a dish we had not ordered. When asked about it, he reprinted a bill with the correct amount. I hope it was an honest mistake but Ive heard about that used as a tactic by some unscrupulous servers. Anyway it was a great experience other than that. I recommend the restaurant just check your bill before you pay it.
English Ivys has ambience, character, and history. The food is amazing. I had the Alabama Cuban with kettle chips. Fresh, warm kettle chips. Like they actually make them. They were that good. My wife had the grilled Salmon with rice and lemon. It was crisp on the outside, tender, flaky, and juicy on the inside. Do yourself a favor and come to English Ivys!
Food is always awesome here, and the atmosphere reminds me of Cheers. No matter how long its been since I have been there, they always treat me like family. Nice, comforting spot with delicious meals to share with friends.
Food is good for bar foodStates its a gay bar but if u look them up they r gay friendly ...whats that supposed to mean. Used to b owned by gay couple then sold to another out of town gay couple now owned by some company .....doesnt want to b known as a gay bar but will gladly take all their gay clientele money just the same.
This place used to be a favorite of mine. New ownership runs the place like a private social club and not a business open to the public. A common thread amongst many LGBTQ establishment owners. As much as I’d like to continue to support this community, I can’t justify empowering businesses with the wrong motives. Sorry won’t return soon
One of my all time favorite places to go. Bag Lady Bingo is always a great time.
We absolutely love walking to this neighborhood gem. They have awesome specials and delicious pub food, and always the best servers! It’s our go-to when we don’t feel like cooking or when we want to show friends around the neighborhood.
Went in had a great dinner. Bill came to $59 and some change and had a charge for $71.77 on my card and left a cash tip. Manager refused to correct the transaction and said it had to wait until tomorrow. I will not be going back and wouldn’t recommend I to anyone.
I just had lunch here mid afternoon and it was nearly full. I had fish n chips and truly enjoyed the fish! Filet nearly filled the plate. Loved the parking in back as Alabama is often busy. Service was pleasant and helpful. Prices kinda midrange for lunch. Easy to find...look for the rainbow flag!
The tacos were good. Asked the server if there were drink specials he said, Yes! Sky vodka drinks, (which were $5.75) The costumers behind us ordered Absolute Vodka for $4. So I felt a little deceived by our server. Drinks taste watered down. Basically like cranberry kool-aid.
Food is a solid 3 stars. The atmosphere is fun and its one of only 2 gay owned and operated in area. Very openly mix crowd. Good lunch, quick and efficient. Most local business crowd.
Took my son here. Called ahead to make sure it was cool to bring someone under 21.. very friendly staff. Beautiful first time experience for us as afamily. 10/10 would do it again. Food and drinks 👩🏻🍳💋
I have yet to have a bad experience at English Ivys. I absolutely love the family like atmosphere and the renovations of the new restaurant. Not to mention, the staff is incredible. They even held my coworkers lost credit card from the night before and returned it to him safely. Ivys has incredible food and decent service. During my last visit I had the gouda Mac n cheese with bacon- it was so great that I took half home as left overs to enjoy the following day. All in all, I cant wait to return to Ivys for another fantastic visit.
Amazing food and the best waiter staff that I have ever met. Love the weekly drink specials. I would eat their buffalo mac and cheese every day if I could. I try to bring my friends here as often as possible!
The food was good and the server was friendly and helpful. Me and my family went there with a couple of friends for dinner one night and the server made sure that we had everything we needed and was well taken care of. The atmosphere there was friendly as well.
A former favorite, now a real bummer. Surf and Turf. Grilled shrip was good but the waiter described better cut steak was tough, though properly cooked to medium rare. We had the pulled pork nachos for an appetizer, it left a lot to desire!
Alex made my night. Busy as f*ck but he kicked butt. Thanks for great food and great service, as always! 3 beers, app and entree, $45.
My girlfriend and I used to come get food here all the time. Great stuff time and time again. However, recently the food had been almost inedible. Everything tastes over cooked, dry and flavorless. Dont know what happened but we hope it gets fixed soon. Might give it some time then try again.
Had been here only a few times! Food was great, Went recently, bit into my burger to find a piece of metal inside! Was so disappointed! Other wise always had a great experience there. Still suffering a bit from possible nerve damage :(
Great food, great atmosphere (varies depending on what time you go), and the service is always perfect. In a world taken over by family dining, English Ivys is a lovely get away for grown ups, no matter your sexuality. Try the BBQ Mac and cheese!
I can only say it wont be here next year. Why do so many people go out and spend there hard earned money on a bussiness and then change every little thing about it. Its a recipe for failure. English Ivy is know different. A really neat place now has no, no atmosphere poor food at best. They think it will be a nice little neighborhood restaurant and bar. Not going to happen. There are to many with better food and more atmosphere. SORRY!
Its a bar, but it is not divey. Close to where I work I have picked up my lunch 3 times so far. They have always had it done and right by the time I get there. This is important since i am on a half hour lunch. I tried their brunch once, it was really good but kinda crowded.
Had another great lunch Tuesday Nov. 8th.Curtis bartender / server did a great job as always!! Thanks to Marlin in the kitchen !!
Great atmosphere and drinks. Friendly service. A really great neighborhood bar and eatery. I would recommend for any one looking for a laid back place to have a few drinks or a meal.
Nice menu, friendly staff, & well laid out. Was extra jammed for Dining Out For Life as English Ivys was donating the most to charity. Definitely plan on a return visit.
Went to English Ivys for the first time Friday night. The food was very ,very good . The service was awesome and the people were very friendly. I felt very comfortable an relaxed an welcome. Will definitely return.
We miss the awesomeness of the old English Ivys. Great food choices that were actually cooked to order, stronger and better tasteing drinks, staff that stayed longer and actually treated you friendlier and it was actually still a gay bar.....a safe place where we could be ourselves and not be judged (....we could still Hug, kiss each other, hold hands and touch). We know the moment the rainbow flags now longer hung there the place would be the bar to start going down hill. Its really heart breaking.
Seriously fantastic food and Bloody Mary’s!! Great service and atmosphere too!! Animals should feel Pride in how amazing their meat tastes when prepared by the chefs here!!
Went too lunch with my beautiful sexy hot boyfriend, something my husband would never do with me. Anyway , great service and delicious food. Thank you again my hot adorable sexy man. I love you. ❤️
The bartender was a very nice woman I really liked it their. Only down side was second bar tender that came in was not very helpful I waited awhile before he asked me if I needed anything he was more interested in his friend sitting in the corner.
I love the food here and the service is always great. Its a great local place to hang out and catch up with friends.
English Ivys has gone through some growing pains hiwever, has risen look ike a Phoenix! New SUPER exciting menu. They always take constructive criticism to heart and work to make your experience stellar. No one is perfect... Really look in the mirror.... They do a GREAT job for a good price on both food and drink... Stop by for a drink and dinner stay for the community!
This place has gone to hell 100% since the bar management bailed for better opportunities. We went only came here for Shelly, had it not been for her, we would never come here. The atmosphere since the windows were added is neat, but having one server on a Sunday Brunch is absolutely retarded. Moderate business seems to handicapped them. Had this been a weekend when something was going on, this could have been even worse.Shelly is the one thing that keeps this place alive. Lord dont let her leave! No one would come.
This place is great! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the food is good, and the drink specials are great. One of the finest LGBTQ+ -friendly places in the city. Perhaps the only one with such a relaxed divey vibe.
7:30 Thursday only 4 tables, service was slow, drink order was wrong, received our appetizer never received our entree, water or anything after that. Went to the waiter station to pay our bill. The whole staff needs to go
Love that they serve breakfast menu on weekends until late in the afternoon. Had the breakfast quesadilla with bacon and red peppers and a small order of kegs. Fresh, hot and tasty ! Service wad great as well .
Their French onion soup is to die for! Always such a great atmosphere and friendly crowd, too.
I just popped in for some food to go, service was great and the food even better. My next visit will be to sit in and really enjoy the atmosphere.
Drinks are great, food just so so. Steak on the menu but you cant get a baked potato or pasta as a side. No bread or crackers served with rmthe salad or meal either. Who wants mashed potatoes with a steak? Not me! So called Mac and cheese, isnt, its penne pasta and sauces. Probably wont be eating dinner here again.
Went there tonight with a large party. The wait staff did great considering we kept then running and it was packed because of was Pride weekend. Pub food and drinks. Always crowded and noisy.
Ive only been once since the change in ownership, but the food has always been delicious, service great, not to mention theyre super accepting of people from all walks of life.
Great tenderloins! Great service! I cant say I totally like all the changes with the remodel, but sometimes change is good. Really good experience with a big party of eight.
Had to pick a roach off of my friends shirt sitting at the table. So sad to see the quality of food take such a nosedive. Nothing like it used to be...and to have almost every Trace of LGBT community taken down is sad.Moving on to Mass Ave.
Absolutely love this hometown staple. Every time I am there I feel welcome and comfortable. Super friendly and attentive staff as well!
Jeff is one of the best bartenders youll find anywhere. The business was purchased over the summer and theyre still working on some kinks, but that shouldnt dissuade anyone from checking out Ivys and having a meal.
Always good food, good service. Tuesday night is 2 dollar night, so its busy. Get the funnel cake fries. New windows look great.
My fiance and I went there for the first time just the other night and we absolutely loved it ! He ordered some drinks and they were amazing the food is to die for . Best bar food I ever had anyone who says otherwise obviously has never had great bar food ! I would highly recommend English ivys . Very classy and respectful staff .
Great neighborhood bar. Super friendly staff. GLBTQ friendly. Friendly all the way around. Good food spot where you can enjoy a conversation. Check out their brunch.
Ivys has come a long way in the last few years! I dont go here a lot but the food is good and the drinks are cheap! Definitely recommended for late night food or a chill night out with friends!
Staff is extremely nice. Food is really good and the prices are very reasonable. They recently remodeled too and its super cute inside.
I love the atmosphere, but food isnt all that great, and beer selection is limited. A lot of potential, though. Very nice servers.
Great place to hang for some drinks. I really liked our waiter! Nice place. Would definitely go back again.
Absolutely love this place. Great food and booze prices! $15 champaign bottles for mimosas EVERYDAY!! Order the Tater Kegs. Just do it.
Great atmosphere, good food, really good martinis. I will be going back c
One of my favorite neighborhood spots! The food is always great and the service is friendly.
Came in and had pizza on Monday night after surfing turf was ordered out which I was not too fond of no Redbull but Lauren was a delight and made us a pizza that was out of this world and for that I give her five thumbs up you know where the fifth one is ....Jk.... thank you it was great service thank you .
The food and the service is always wonderful here. Its a really great place to stop by if you just need a minute to relax.
New owners have turned this place into a complete rip off. Prices are high, food/drinks are garbage, staff has a nasty attitude. Running out of options here in Indy.
Went for a birthday dinners for 2 friends prime rib, best I have eaten in a long time
Delicious brunch, wish I’d taken a pic! Headed back this weekend for more of the same ♥️
Always amazing service and delicious food. I prefer their old menu to the new one but its still great!
The food is greatThe atmosphere in the restaurant is niceHowever it is often crowded, so much so its hard to have a conversation with the person across from youThe food is a bit more expensive than I feel is reasonable
An older place with moderately priced food. The meal wasnt entirely memorable, bit the staff made up for that. Generally a much older, regular crowd that goes here.
The food and service were wonderful! Really enjoyed it and cant wait to go again!
Used to have one if the best burgers in town, now you get 2 tiny fake patties with painted on grill marks. What a joke. Done done done done.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was good. Highly recommend Ivys Signature Burger. A great late night spot.
I find the food slightly over priced, but I love the service. Very kind bartenders. First gay bar Ive ever gone to.
I got harassed there several times, and the staff doesn’t do anything about it.
I love Monday night Surf & Turf, but everything is delicious. Love the classy atmosphere and the wait staff are the friendliest In town.
Mac and cheese was so dry, it was like trying to chew on plain noodles. Setting was so dark we had to use a flashlight to read the menu. Would never eat there again!
Wondering why English has refused to do anything for veterans on veterans Day for many years.
Food is consistently good, very reasonable prices, anyone who thinks the prices are high and the drinks are garbage, clearly doesnt go to any other cities to eat or drink!!
Really enjoy the bartender Josh’s presence he’s cute fun and efficient. 10/10 will be back, good drinks, good food, good vibes!
Service was great. Food was good. A nice friendly place. Carrot Cake was Yummy!!
By far the worst Bloody Mary and breakfast I’ve had in the city. Best way to describe it is cafeteria or hotel quality buffet. Terrible...
Friendly staff and the sirloin steak was delicious! Im definitely patronizing this place the next time Im in Indy.
The food is always great! Their skillet cookie is to die for! It always feels welcoming inside.
The staff wasn’t very friendly when I arrived , the waitress was sick or something and kept sneezing everywhere and didn’t wash her hands not once and started serving people food . I will never come here again !
Great service, fantastic atmosphere delicious food and clean facility!! Definitely going back! Zachery was awesome!
No room to belly up since the hetrosexual owners cut the bar in half.
I eat dinner at English Ivys three or four times per month. The food and service are always top-notch.
I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere & great service. I got the surf & turf special & the quality of the food was excellent.
Great service great food menu moderately priced drinks plenty of friendly people to have good conversation
I love coming to Ivys. The entire staff is awesome. Keep up the great work. Flaire is an awesome bartender.
I joy going there nice people good people and good awesome food and nice staff
Loved. A cute place, food was amazing. Went with my boyfriend. Staff was sweet!
Classic American cuisine in a relaxed welcoming environment with a consistent reliable bar
Their surf and turf is amazing. And you cant beat the price for the quality of food in the downtown area.
Nice little restaurant that also doubles as a gay bar. Nice atmosphere. Servers are sweet!
Love going here for brunch! Love the environment and staff. Great drink prices
Friendly staff and regulars. Burgers are great. All around great neighborhood bar.
Great employees, the food is great and it has two sides so you can bring the lil ones.
Great food! Try the stuffed tater tots! Friendly helpful staff and fun patrons!
Awesome place to meet old and new friends, fantastic new menu with excellent staff and pricea
Great atmosphere! Great staff! Will definitely go back next time Im in Indy! ❤❤❤
Food and drinks were good after a show downtown late night. Tater legs were great.
True locals joint. The remodeling opened the space up. The food is good drinks prices reasonable.
Loved the atmosphere. The food was good. Had really good bloody marys.
Nice place. Good food. Large bar and dining areas. LGBTQ friendly.
My hometown place to hang. Love Dallas and Jeffrey. They always make me feel welcomed
An excellent lunch menu, the bartenders are always cordial and a large selection of locally grown produce and meats on the dinner menu.
Great place to get a good meal at a decent price.., Very LGBTQ friendly.
Great neighborhood bar and restaurant! Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. LGBT friendly
The food is beyond perfect and all the staff are super friendly.
I think I could live solely on the quesadilla and Violet’s positive attitude. We absolutely love this place!
Friendly staff. Good vegan and veggie food items. Great atmosphere
Good drink specials, good atmosphere, food is a little pricey but still good.
Great atmosphere! Cozy and fun! Service is great, food is quality.
I love it. Very comfortable place to chill. Good wings and drinks.
Nice neighborhood bar. Friendly staff and good drinks with wide selection food menu.
Great food like always. And thank you for my birthday dessert!! 🤣🎂
Nice place, food is good and price is very acceptable, the area is not the prettiest
GOOD BUT DONT CARE FOR THE NEW MENU. USED TO GO HERE ALL THE TIME BUT GOT RID OF MOST OF THE MORE POPULAR ITEMS LIKE FRIED PICKLES.
I love the food!! Service is great!! Nice atmosphere😁
