Oh man, maybe I just went on a bad day, but the band was really off. Tons of mistakes, not only out of tune, but even lyrics. It was hard to keep the cheer up except for a few songs.It is a fun place with a very good idea behind. Maybe they should fix the playlist to rehearse a bit more. Indy has a strong music scene. Im sure they can figure this out.
Was wonderful until about 9pm. We reserved a table and had a great waitress but they let WAY to many people in. Our table was over crowded with people standing around us, falling on us, screaming between us, and was way too overwhelming. If you get claustrophobic or do not like a huge crowd, I dont recommend. Payed $130 for a reserved table and only got to spend an hour and a half there due to people over running our table. Would love to experience it on a night they have crowd control.
What a great time with friends and amazing music from truely talented musicians. This bar offers a large open space and patio. The lower floor near the stage is a great place for a group of friends to get up close to the action and participate. The upper level offers plenty of bar seating and gathering places to rest your feet from hours of dancing. Had a blast!
Judging my the sounds coming out of the speakers outside every weekend you’d think this place is a karaoke bar. So we decided to come in to sing some karaoke and after the $10 cover fee we found that it’s actually just really horrible cover bands playing every weekend. They’re also just playing on top of karaoke tracks so all the instruments are just being dubbed over essentially. Trash especially compared coming from bars in Florida.

Awesome musical presentation, very talented individuals. They hit the entire spectrum. Decent drinks, priced very reasonably. They do not serve food, spirts and music is whats on the menu!
There for a corporate/conference event that spilled later into the open to public hours.Im going to caution that for the corporate portion, while the Service was excellent (shoutout to Allyson!) the Atmosphere was lacking. The band clearly dials it in/keeps it low-key so I wasnt keen on staying. In fact, when I arrived my first thought hearing the band was Oh...oh no...this isnt gonna be good.After 9pm it picked right up and the band suddenly had energy and style and the Atmosphere was great. They even let some guy named Greg up on stage to play drums for a song! It was a blast.Final note - their pop and hip-hop covers arent quite as strong as their country and rock.
We were expecting more of a dueling piano atmosphere. They do have 2 pianos set up, but it is less dueling piano and more of a full music experience. It was amazing that the 5 to 6 musicians jumped from piano to guitar to drums! The drinks are on the weak side. The overall atmosphere was good. Dont know if they were just short staffed the night we visited, but it took a while to get drinks. Overall, we would go back.
My first time in Indianapolis and on a Saturday night I strolled around the whole downtown area just evaluating The nightlife and where I might have my final cocktail. How at the moon was the only place that was crazy popular and it full tilt. Live music and energy drive this popular bar. Service is good drinks are good I would recommend this place if you are looking for energy and people in Indianapolis.
This is a great venue to get a drink at. Celebrating a 21st birthday in a way that only this place can manage. While the chairs through most of the venu are taller variety than some handicapable might be able to manage, their are options available to them nonetheless.Drinks are where this establishment shines. I had the Kentucky peach 🍑 which was delicious and very smooth. I would certainly recommend this place if they are looking for a venue with plenty of crowd interaction.
My fiancé bought a corona there and it got thrown away by a server. No biggie, if was replaced by a bucket drink which I sat on the counter directly behind me to make sure my tab was closed. In less than probably 30 seconds then bucket was trashed with no offer to fix the issue.Security then stopped me recognizing that I hadn’t closed out the card I had to use to re-order the bucket drink. Thank you to /securitv man.Overall I’m disappointed that no offers to receive reimbursement or service were offered.
We met up with friends and family to celebrate our nieces 21st birthday. It was a terrific time, the atmosphere was so fun with the dueling pianos, the crowd, and even the staff involvement. Definitely recommend!
This was THE BEST possible place we could have gone for a bachelorette party! It felt like the entire place was a private party just for us because the musicians, bartenders, servers, and other guests were all joining in on the celebrations and making our night special. Our server even had a little bachelorette party card game she let us borrow. Our group got called on stage multiple times and truly felt like this was the best night ever. We are so grateful for the entire staff for making this such a memorable night. AND the musicians are SO talented!
The bar is aptly placed so you can talk to the bartender. The band is phenomenal and consistent. Maybe Im at the age where hearing the company you are with is a greater benefit. Thankfully people still smoke so you can go outside. So many of those in the live band are incredibly skilled. If you are going for just music, this is the place to do it.
They made me feel like a celebrity on my birthday! The band is just downright amazing! The staff couldnt get any better. Fun playful but very helpful! Best experience! I love love love this place!
No food here, just good drinks and good fun.Decent group of performers but have seen better at other Howl locations.2 standouts were an Asian girl and a younger guy... their performances were more on point, and the crowd gave more love when they performed... but all around good talent by all.Overall cool place, great people hanging out, great drinks.Check them out!!

High energy, interactive piano bar with a wide range of music being played. From 80s rock to current pop and so much in between.$10 cover on a Saturday night.There is plenty of room to dance with a seating area to watch the crowd below.There is also an outdoor patio area if you want to take in some fresh air or get away from the loud music.Large drink menu priced decently for being in the heart of downtown Indianapolis.
Really disappointed in what it took to get in. Myself and 3 girlfriends took an uber here to meet a friend who was already inside. There was no line to get in, with 2 bouncer’s out front. They checked all our ID’s (we are all over 30) and then they randomly said they also wanted a second form of ID from all of us. One of our girls only brought cash and her ID, so they said they wouldn’t let us in. She said she had her debit on her mobile and they said they would only accept a physical form. Really gave us a hard time, and it’s crazy because I was just here a few weeks prior and they didn’t ask for a second form then. Well anyway then my friend asks how can we get inside, and they said if we gave them a good tip. She handed him $20 and he let us go in. Then when we got in, it was a $10 cover charge per person. Overall it felt really offensive and I couldn’t believe it took all of that just to get in. So be prepared when going here to bring 2 forms of ID depending on how the bouncers are feeling or extra cash to pay the bouncer’s and the cover.
Audio engineers nightmare, music is barely audible over the hubub. Drinks have tons of sugar and barely any alcohol. Jam-packed by those who recently turned 21.
The drinks were a bit water down, and the performers were more worried about money and tips than putting on a good show. Which was the complete difference, then the one in San Antonio. If you play good ppl, you will tip more worry about performing them tips and please give good drinks, not watered down alcohol.

I come here once a year and its always great. The staff, the prices and the food. The entertainment is typical of a piano bar, and the talent never gives up trying to get the crowd partying.Staying in Indianapolis for the week is like staying at your grandmas house and Howl at the Moon is like sneaking out to your cousins house for the real party
Amazing atmosphere, very chill, and a great place to listen to music. Drinks seem expensive, but are worth the price, I recommend this place to everyone 21+If you show up early enough you dont have to pay a cover charge some nights.They take song requests and do and excellent job preforming. My girlfriend and I loved it.
Went to Howl on New Years Eve from out of town and they put on a great event. They took care of every detail. The food was great and in abundance. The wait staff was on top of every detail, usually before you even asked. The music was great and the musicians kept you interested and having fun the entire time. I have not made it to midnight in several years and was still going strong at 2:30 a.m. The countdown was fun and they provided champagne for everyone in the entire place. Thanks again, Howl, for making it the best New Years I have ever been too!!!!!!

Music was ungodly loud. I get it’s a music venue, but when my table is 30 feet from the stage in a small space it doesn’t need to be so loud. The drinks were nothing but pure sugar and barely any alcohol to them. Basic white girl haven with the drinks as well: hardly anything on their menu but vodka and tequila drinks. The service was good, but definitely not what is advertised. Not worth the $100 reservation.
Idk. It was fun there for a minute, but its just low skill people playing the billboard top 20 from the last 4 decades. Just the same ol garbage, and theyll deny any unique request. Or anything post 2015 for that matter. Idk. They killed my mood when they were just tossing requests away. The drinks were fine priced ig, but it just wasnt it.
We visited Howl for the first time 2 years ago on Valentines weekend with a large group. It was fabulous. The music was absolutely spot on. This time we were not so impressed. The music was mediocre at best. The really small girl was good but the rest of them were hard on the ears. Their personalities were good but they ruined the songs. We left after only an hour. Sorry.
I want to start by saying the bar itself is amazing. Great place for quality entertainment and a fun time. My issue on my recent visit was the bartender. We had just walked in after a $10 cover. My buddy and asked for the same drink ($18 drink) which took the less than a minute to make for the two of us. Being our first drink we did not leave a tip for the short service. WELLLL the bartender did NOT like this. Before we walked away she stopped both of us and asked why she didn’t get a tip. When we tried to explain we would be back, she rolled her eyes and walked away. Needless to say I didn’t order any more drinks.
This bar might be the absolute worst of indy! save yourself and do not go to this terrible establishment!! tin roof or thewild beaver saloon are way more fun and have much better music!
Wow what a great place! We went here for a friends Bachelorette party and the vibes are amazing! The wait staff absolutely takes care of you from getting your drinks to telling the annoying drunk guys to go away. I LOVE that they take requests and will even redo a verse how you want to fit your occasion! Couldnt be more impressed!
Fun place for day drinking or having a night out. A surprising amount of bachelorette parties, to me. Marg was yummy. When I went in there was a piano guy playing request with two guitar players, drums, etc. It made the place lively. I do believe the $10 cover was a bit absurd, and we would have gone somewhere else if it didnt start pouring rain right when we walked in. Would lightly recommend, hard to find a bad view of the stage, but their cover band sucks typically.
I had so much fun at this bar last night! The dueling piano players have great voices and they made extra efforts to pump up the crowd and get us engaged. The drinks had a good value. Great venue for a night out with good dance music. Highly recommend.
This is one of the best bars I have ever been to. The talented performers have NEVER let me down and always bring the crowd to their feet. It is a pretty pricey bar, but honestly I am not a big drinker and just enjoy the show anyway. They take requests and any partys you throw there are sure to be great. The waitress/bartenders are incredible, too. If you have time please see the show!

Musicians were amazing. There are five of them and they rotate so the music never stops. Wait staff was great. Would have given five stars but they only had one beer on tap. Assumed it was because they just reopened. Drink prices were great.
Great music and fun atmosphere. We were there with a large group and our server was upset with our table because we were not drinking enough and we were taking up space at her tables. We were drinking and had several buckets of beer and enjoying the music but we were not there to get wasted. Seemed like from the get go she was angry to be at work, maybe caught her on a bad day but she certainly was a very rude server.
This place is a lot of fun. Those kids on stage really do a great job at reading and entertaining the crowd. The perks you get with reserving tables are unbeatable. We had a bachelor party of 9 people, and the groom couldn’t have had a better time. He loved getting pulled up on stage! Thanks to the Howl staff. Especially our server, Angie, who was fantastic.
Place was pretty awesome very loud very crowded but the security team was on top of it them guys run that place like a well-oiled machine only bad part about the whole night was the person playing the piano never played any of the songs we requested even with cash tips also we was there for a bachelor party and the person with the microphone told the bachelor happy birthday when they called him up on stage for some reason luckily we was all drunk enough not to care LOL had a great time definitely recommend coming here and Im positive we had the absolute BEST WAITRESS in the whole place Im pretty sure her name was Kay
One of my favorite bar experiences ever. The energy in here was amazing! The staff here was great as well, fast and delicious drinks. S/o to the bartender, Jordan, who was there most of the times me and my friend went back to the bar. She made the best drinks and was really sweet 💕 already planning to go back!!
Good music. Like the talent. Being older than most the crowd I wouldve liked to hear more 80s music. Everyone was friendly.Musicians and staff. 2 staff members I talked to didnt seem to know with table reservation I got free jello shot.
My husband and I had so much fun at this bar! There was a good variety of drinks and the live music was so much fun!! The band was very interactive with the crowd and got almost the entire bar dancing. It was also so fun to just sit and watch the band- every band player knew every instrument; we were so amazed watching each player rotate so seemlessly between instruments and have so much fun doing so! It was VERY crowded when we arrived, but we still got our drinks very quickly making it easy to enjoy our time :)
I’m not the kind of person that visits places like this anymore, but my coworkers organized a Holiday Party there and I decided to give it a try.I do not regret a bit!I liked the variety of drinks, but specially the music! Oh my! There’s a lot of talent there. The musicians rotate from singing to one or another instrument. They take requests from the guests and really know how to spread the enthusiasm even to not-a-party-person like me.
It was a blast! My fiance and my brother as well as his wife went together. It was a packed house by the time we showed up. I loved the performers! They had everyone engaged with the moment. I cant wait to go back!!
The floors in the whole bar are sticky and the staff was very disrespectful to not only me but to everyone I was with. The live music was honestly awful.
This is not the Howl at the Moon of years past! What a fun and energetic atmosphere for our friends 50th birthday celebration! The musicians were excellent and played non-stop for hours! But the best part was our server Mario!!! He was hands down AMAZING and on top of things for our large party. What a wonderful asset Mario is to your staff!
Although the time there was spent well and I had fun there are some improvements that can be made. Prices for drinks were pretty steep not to mention the entry fee was an arm and a leg but for unique drinks and live music I guess you could call it fare. That being said the music could be turned down a smidge. Dont get me wrong I like loud crazy music as much as the next person but there is a thin line between hyped music and blaring music. But thats just my opinion. Over all a good place to go but not for everyone.
2ND UPDATE: They only emailed me back after updating this review (below). Then after 2 days he emailed me again asking me to change my review. I don’t even know if I want to go back or how much the gift card is/if it’s worth it.UPDATE: They did NOT respond to me about making things right and giving me a gift card/free admission. Not that I expected it but just so yall reading this know, they definitely did not follow through. Lowering my rating to 1 star.I have been to Howl twice now and both times were disappointing. The first time the music was alright, but our party of 4 spent a little over $200 (before tipping) on buckets and shots and none of us ended up feeling the alcohol hit.. and we drank a lot! We have a couple lightweights and even they left the bar feeling barely anything after sharing 4 of the 86oz buckets and 3 shots each. It felt like a huge waste. Then the 4 of us went again because Howl hosted “Emo Night”. This time we drank about half as much and we all actually got drunk! So that proves the first time they skimped us on our drinks like crazy. And they barely played any emo songs at all and were playing a lot of random country and pop songs even though the crowd was not responding well. It was extremely disappointing. We stayed for about 3 1/2 hours and heard less than 10 emo songs the whole night. For the experience they provide, they definitely overcharge for drinks and cover fee.
We had a fantastic experience here for our friends 21st birthday! I absolutely reccomend reserving a table as there isnt much standing room. Music was fantastic and our waitress K was the best waitress Ive ever had!
Decent place, cover singer is super out if key for every song…drinks are good but the music seems to be pretty up and down and overall not worth having to pay a cover to get in.
This review is for the New Years Eve Event only:My group of five people each purchased 135$ ticket packages that included dinner and free drinks all night. Our waitress did not come to our table at all between 10PM - 12:30 AM so we were unable to get free drinks or water refills during this time. I usually dont have an issue with service on normal nights but my group definitely didnt feel like we got our moneys worth for the NYE event.
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The performers were so bad that when we walked in, someone in our group thought it was karaoke night. I do not recommend unless you are so drunk that your ears don’t work anymore.
GREAT ATMOSPHERE, LOTS OF ENERGY. THE PERFORMERS ARE TOP NOTCH. DESPERATELY NEEDED MORE WAIT STAFF. MY BIG ISSUE IS THAT I RESERVED A TABLE FOR A BIRTHDAY PARTY. THE TABLE WAS RIGHT UP AGAINST THE DANCE FLOOR. ONCE THE PLACE FILLED UP WE HAD DRUNK DANCERS BUMPING INTO THE TABLE AND US AS WELL AS PUTTING THEIR EMPTY CANS/BOTTLES ON OUR TABLE. WE ENDED UP JUST LEAVING BECAUSE IT WAS SUPER ANNOYING. I WOULD THINK FOR THE AMOUNT YOU PAY TO RESERVE A TABLE THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF BUFFER BETWEEN THE TABLE AND THE DANCE FLOOR.
The band is too loud you cant hear yourself think. Wont be returning.
Was there with large group of friends for birthday celebration. The bar tender didnt even said hi and ignored me twice. I ENDED up ordering 10 shots and 2 drinks. But for the rest of the night I did not go back to him. Generally the place is tired looking and feel. No wonder they always give away free parties.
I had a blast here, the band was super energetic and fun and the drinks all tasted wonderful. Id go back anytime.

Place was badass! Celebrated a birthday, it was packed, crowd was lit. Waitress was badass! Shoutout #Kay she even got on stage an killed it! Drinks were badass! Music/band=badass! 12/10 will go back.
Used to be one of my favorite places to go, but they have gotten away from what put them as a prime place in the beginning.They used to be 2 people at pianos bantering back and forth while playing and interacting with the crowd. They have evolved and included drums, guitars, and lead singers.They still have some of the interactions, but appear to be more of a cover band with interchangeable parts.They still perform well and create a fun atmosphere, just not as what I was used to. I would still encourage others to give a try and see.
I would give a - star. It’s a piano bar, you go to watch the talent and enjoy the show. I can’t see anything with all the people crowding the show that are allowed to do what they want. Never again.
We had a good time on a Thursday night. The dueling pianos were really good, all 4 artists were very talented. We ordered a 86 oz drink for the two of us and it was tasty but not strong enough, especially for the price 😕
Fun place! The band every time Ive been here has been great! There is a $10 cover on Saturday night but in my opinion it keeps any trouble makers out. Cant remember this being the case on any previous visits but the coat check was free! Surprising easy to get a drink at the bar with the place packed.
Awesome time for a Thursday night in Indy. Five dollar cover charge not hateful. Great service. Within walking distance ( or stumbling if tequila is involved) of most of the downtown hotels. Had a blast with the dueling piano music. Will definitely go back the next time we are in town
The BEST bar hand downs! The drummer/piano/singers and their show was incredible! We went on a busy Thursday night ($1 beers) and the bartender/waiters were amazing! Came up to us several times throughout the night! They were also really funny! My Friend even got a complementary birthday shot on the bartender!Bucket of all alcohol which serves 4 people or more like 1 if you are me ;) is an awesome thought! I did not get one but I cant wait to get one next time!NO COVER CHARGE for the show if you are a student other than that only $3.We went bar hopping that night, but I wish we would have came here the whole time! It was awesome!!
Seriously, even on a weekday this place is so great. The live entertainment was amazing. We were the first to arrive, and they cracked jokes with us and took requests on songs that were even kind of difficult. The waitress was helpful in picking out drinks. The establishment was very clean and pleasant. We reallly had a great time here.
They call this a piano bar but theres a while bands full of instruments. Fascinating to watch the musicians each play all them from piano to drums to guitars. Very festive, very loud, lots of sweet, fruity cocktails to choose from. Great for people-watching.
We 100% will be back! The music was great, the drinks strong, and the service was probably the best weve ever had! Linda somehow would magically appear whenever I took the last drink of my drink! Ill be sure to recommend this place to all my friends!!
Giving this a 5 STAR because we had such a good time and would go back! Only thing is I paid $125 for the birthday package so we could have a table. We got there around 7:30 pm, and the place was pretty empty. I could have saved myself $125 and got there at 7:30 pm and had a seat. Highly recommend if your going earlier than 9, not to book the package. It is a waste of money!!! But still we had a great time! Will keep that in mind next time we go
Nice setup. They have a fairly talented band that does a nice mix of dueling piano performances and more traditional live entertainment. The performers swap in and out, while moving between instruments. As with any piano bar, they like to engage the crowd and bring members of the audience up on stage during the performance.
The house band was fantastic. The performers rotated between piano, drums, bass, and guitar. I enjoyed the performance greatly. It was a fun time and the crowd really got inspired to dance and sing along. Drinks were reasonable price.
The musicians here are absolutely amazing! They can go from one genre of music to another no problem. Theres a song for everyone! You can also put in requests, just ask your server. Also the drink prices were reasonable and plenty strong. You could also check with the front desk at one of the hotels nearby and see if they are still giving out passes to get you in for no cover charge. I would love to go back next time Im downtown.
The appetizers and drinks were great. A little too great, in fact, but lets not talk about that.The atmosphere is fun and energetic enough, but not overpowering. Dueling Pianos is pretty cool, even if the music is not your preference.
Threw a Bachelorette party for my best friend and it was the 3rd time Ive come to Howl at the Moon but the first time I have ever reserved a table. To start off our tables were all the way in the back and I mean ALL the way. It was in a corner and for $250 you would think tables would be closer to the stage. Also, my friends stage call out was very generic compared to the other bachelorettes. There were at least 4 or 5 brides that night so I understand trying to squeeze them all in however an effort should be made to make sure each one is a special as the last. They called all the bride to be on stage however and that was pretty fun. That all being said, everyone in my party still had a FANTASTIC time. The energy was high and the performers were amazing. We left once they started repeating songs which lets you know we were there for quite sometime. Even though I was less than impressed by our reservation, I will make HatM a stop every time Im in the city. The hostess in me is just nitpicky.

Cool place and great musicians - was nice to see more instruments than just piano. Paid $10 cover for a Saturday. Ive never paid more than $5 at other piano bars, but considering there was at least 4 or 5 musicians, it was ok. The place was way overcrowded, making it less enjoyable. Took awhile to get to the bar.
It’s a good place with excellent music; live music never stops. All band’s guys play several instruments and when one of the take a rest, come other one and the music continues. the best songs every night; fun never stops.
My first experience at howl at the moon was an absolute nightmare. Me as well as my friends have been on the COVID response task force in the military since 2020. As things were winding down with Covid nationwide, we heard that Howl at the Moon was a good spot with live music. Boy were we wrong. This one African American Female with Blue hair kept causing us problems for absolutely no reason. When I asked why she was upset with us she replied You cant put these tables together, or else Im going to have to make you leave. We respectfully cooperated and not even a couple minutes later we were getting thrown out. The bouncers couldnt give an explanation for it at all either. Nobody wanted to give out there names and one of the bouncers took his shirt off outside to try and showoff? Flex? Not too sure. Overall Professionalism at this place was worse than anything I have experienced before. Me and the military community now know to stay away from this place in the future.

Atmosphere was fantastic until about 10 pm when another package group was let in. Place got extremely over crowded, our table we paid a lot of money for was right by the entrance. It became over run with people walking, we were unable to use our seats anymore, were getting constantly bumped into, stepped on, and drinks spilled on us.

Used to be a great place to go. Very Talented performers but everything is scripted. Looks like a set list and not requests or playing off the cuff. Not as enjoyable. Not a just piano bar anymore....thats what made it successful. We were disappointed when we left
Meh. I went for a buddy’s party and it was okay. We got some free lukewarm food and a free drink. I’m a *total* light weight when it comes to alcohol. As in a glass of wine has me drunk. I drank 3 of their cocktails back to back to back and didn’t even get a buzz - the alcohol must have been non-existent. The music was entirely too loud and rather screechy for my taste. The bartender, Brent, and our waitress, Abby, were super sweet and attentive though!
Such a fun place! The entertainers were fantastic and played a great mix of songs. I went for a bachelorette party and they definitely made our bride feel special. Drinks were strong too!
Decent atmosphere but not dueling pianos, essentially a band that takes requests with 2 pianos. Basically a dance club.
They always have live bands playing and special or themed events throughout the year. Most of the times if you go, theyll enter you to win a free party but Ive won one every time Ive been there, so I suspect its a way to attract customers. Either way, the party options offer several packages to choose from and you can score free entry, drink, and drink specials for not just yourself but everyone who enters by giving your name at the door. If nothing, its always a good place to just hang out and listen to live music.
I cant stress enough how disgusting and awful this place is. The band was terrible and had no charisma. The house drinks are sugary, weak, and way overpriced. The beer is not nearly warm enough, and the bar is consistently sticky. Cover fees? Come on. I leave 2 stars only because I think it is expected that a place like this would be so disgusting and pricey.
Good for a large group, probably better when mildly inebriated. Not the place for conversation are getting to know someone, but it can be fun with the right company. It was more appealing in my early twenties. Also, the one in Chicago has spoiled me for life, the music and talent is far better, a lot less country music. But drinks are good. Be ready for lots of college kids.
Recently enjoyed a birthday party at Howl. It was a blast! We had quite a mixed age group and everyone had fun. The wait staff rocked it!! All of the musical performers were extremely talented and kept the crowd going. We closed down the place :) Cant wait to go back!!! ❤️ Downtown Indy
Absolutely fabulous performance every time. Its the best experience in Indianapolis. We try to come as often as possible because it beats piped in music or even the occasional good live band experience. Must see live entertainment. Wait staff was funny and nice. I truly felt welcome and appreciated as a patron... I hardly feel that way anymore as a customer.
2nd time weve been here. 1st time was great. Very accommodating. This time tipped 3x for a song....$2, then $3, then $23 and they never played any of them. Dont bother tipping. Spent over $200 in drinks. Probably wont come back
Bars arent my usual hangout but we were there for a bachelor party. The live band was good, playing 80-00s hits for the crowd to sing along. Be warned that it was incredibly loud. Our group had to shout right next to each other to be heard. Four stars because when I tried to order a drink I waited in line, got to the front and then was ignored for about 5 minutes... Enough time for a whole song to finish. This was after no less than 4 bartenders made eye contact and walked by.
Had such a wonderful time here!!! I am visiting from out of town and have never been before, the live band was amazing, was playing some of the best music! The bar tenders where so attentive and keen. Shelby was helping me for most of the night she have such great service to me and my friends, she deserves to be there! She kept a clean bar and was so kind. Page helped me when it was time for Shelby to go home. If I am ever back here, I will definitely be stopping by again!
My original impression of Howl at the moon was good when I made my reservations. Very prompt on helping me accommodate my bachelorette group because we had a few extra people that our package didn’t completely hold, so she did an add on ( for an extra cost) to accommodate our whole party, (she was very helpful during the back and fourth of emails). Then I get to Howl at the moon the night of my reservations and there wasn’t enough seats at our table. We immediately got the manager and he was not accommodating us at all!!! He told me we had to have separate tables across the aisle from the rest of our party and he wouldn’t budge nor did he apologize. Then a very nice man (named Mario) came to my rescue. He was VERY apologetic and went over and above to make the bachelorette happy and put us all together. Not sure who he was but he made the rest of the night a great experience. He definitely should be recognized for this!! Thank you Mario!!! (Mario received a four star from our group😊)
Really incredible musicians and entertainers. They had an impressive arsenal of songs and great musical talent to bring it to life. We had a really fun time, and the Tuesday drink specials were solid.
Over priced and way over crowded. Dont bother paying $125 for a 4 seat table because people will try to sit down if you go to the restroom or they will just keep sitting their used cups on your table. Dont bother saying anything to the staff the only thing they enforce is that you pay to get in and you stay off the stage unless invited by the band. The only good thing about the place is the band is very good. Its not really a Piano Bar.
My son won a happy hour party. I think this is a promotional thing to get traffic in the place. The entertainment was decent. There are very talented performers there. If you have so many people in your party you get a bucket drink. Tried some and it was ok. Not sure which flavor he chose.The happy hour says there is food while supplies last. It consisted of potato salad, nacho chips with some beans and meat and toppings that were sparse and not the freshest looking, and some sweets - cookies, brownie cubes, and eclairs that had been cut up. So random - like a dude had cleaned out his refrigerator. If you advertise food - have a decent offering.The free drink you have about 5 things to choose from. Make sure to give your token before you order. My daughter got a well whiskey. But the free one is an even lesser version than well I guess because the bartender poured it out after she presented the token. I think as a business you lose more $ pouring something out than just serving it.Decor is not pleasant. Place is run down.I got a text saying I won a free happy hour party a week later. So did my husband. I wont be taking them up on that offer.
Absolutely loved the food and drinks. The shots brought around the crowd were amazing. I did not enjoy our server for the party we had; she mixed up quite a few drinks. We did have quite a few drinks; but her job is to get it right.
My wife and I stopped by this place after supper hoping for an entertaining evening. We showed up around 10:00 and paid a $10 dollar cover, each, to be welcomed into a room so full of people it was standing room only. We stood for 20 minutes or so, since there were no seats available, and werent approached by any waitstaff. We figured since wait staff only stop at tables, wed need one to get a drink. In the mens restroom, theres a guy there helping dispense soap and towels (even if you dont want him to do so) that blocks the door by standing in the center of the doorway until you drop $ in his bucket. No one wants to pay to use the restroom after paying to get in. When we heard Let it Go (from Disneys Frozen) it was our last straw. We decided we must be too old for the target market. We were looking for a place with a seat to enjoy a drink and listen to music. A heads-up while we were outside to the fact that there are 2x as many people inside (already) as we have seats would have been awesome. We cut our losses at $20 and bolted.
Pretty cool spot, very much a typical Howl at the Moon—but thats a good thing. Only complaint was song selection not being as good as other locations. Not enough 90s and emo :)
Try to go there Saturday, and the bouncer and whoever else he asked said my ID “looks weird”. What does that even mean? I’m 31 freaking years old and had a group of ppl backing me up. They were just discriminating against how I look because I’m not the biggest person in the world and have medical scar on my throat.
Pricing wasnt bad, but it was so crowded we all stood so long I lost track. And people were standing shoulder to shoulder, it was packed. Had it not been for that it wouldve been a way better experience, the band was great, music was great, drinks were great. But to spend money to have to stand in such a crowded place wasnt fun
Very exciting place to go. When I went there were a bunch of Bachelorette partys.there was a small area in front of the stage to dance with tables behind to enjoy the show. It also so had a bunch of crowd interaction with the band people were going on and off stage having a blast. The vibe was great one on the main reasons I kept deciding to stay just a little longer because the live band were just fantastic. the only gripe I had was when I first arrived a bartender seemed kind of rude but I just didnt tip her(act rude no tip). Other then that i dont think the place will let you down if youre looking for a great night.
The staff at this bar are extremely rude and disrespectful to their customers. When we expressed our concerns the manager was rude and not helpful. They also have “bouncers” that I believe are 16 years old. Get over yourselves. The table was extremely expensive as were the drinks and the music was not even that good. There are better places in Indy to be than at Howl at the Moon. please do not waste your time or money on this place. I promise you will be disappointed.
This is our second time visiting this venue during the Indy WWETT trade show. The drinks are good, staff is friendly and really enjoy the amazing talent on stage both visits. Such an amazing talent for them to be able to rotate thru all the instruments while singing great songs! Shawna was at the door - great personality! While waiting for our hotel shuttle to pick us up, we saw a potential problem with an intoxicated gentleman - the staff handled him very appropriately and the GM Rob was there to help his staff in seconds! Awesome support from management. Had an enjoyable time and will be back next year.
The music was okay, the musicians were good sports about our recommendations and played most of them really well. The service was pretty bad, I think our waitress forgot about us several times. The food was awful, our burgers were cold, our chicken pieces were hard as rocks, and the pulled pork tasted like trash.
Howl gets only 2 stars from me. Drinks were good but server was absolutely the worst I have ever had. I know the bar is busy but good money was paid for our table. Also we didnt tip after every drink we were going to leave a nice tip at the end of our stay. She had the nerve to tell us to our face the we were rude because we had not tipped after every drink. She cost herself a good tip. Just and FYI she brought 3 buckets to our table. We were not making her do laps. She then told us we could go to the bar from now on. Incredibly rude! A manager will be hearing from me.
They have live music and a dance floor, but the dance floor is normally too crowded to dance and the type of music played is arguably difficult to dance to. If you plan to drink and spend time here, then its a blast. If youre sober its not too much fun.
Great time!! They are all so talented!! Will definitely be back. Good mix of ages in the crowd. Drinks are a little expensive, but even our waitress was wonderful! Loved this place!!!
We visited this place on a weekend trip. My husband and I didnt realize it was a good idea to get reservations for a table. Being from kut of town we just showed up and didnt know much about this place. There was a server who was si kind. She got us a table right away on a standing room only kind of night. It was an awesome time the musicians were SO talented!! It was a fun time. We will deffinately be going back the next time we are in the area!!
On a Thursday night during Gencon a group of my friends were looking for a place to unwind after our first day of the convention.The drinks were great and the musicians were very talented and fun to watch!
Always wanted to go here when I lived in Chicago and finally had my chance in Indy. Great performers! And SO much fun! The drinks were kinda weak and there wasnt much room to stand but it was still really fun.
Fun place to have a few drinks and watch the dialing pianos sing and play. They take requests for songs. If you come on a good night youll see some entertaining drunken wildlife dancing and singing to the music!!
I helped an overserved patron out of the bar into an Uber and they refused to let me back in because I was part of a drunk group. I dont even know who this person was. I was told I could not be let back in to join the rest of my group. Learned two lessons from this... dont go to howl at the moon, and dont help people in need.Had this event not happened I would have been leaving a 5 star rating.
We normally LOVE Howl at the Moon, however, I think we should have waited for a few weeks to go back. Their reopening weekend after the Covid-19 shutdowns was a big let down. The sound was off so there were times when you couldnt hear them singing, but worst off all were the drinks. We ordered a round of margaritas and every single one looked different and none were balanced. I think they may need a refresher course on drink making...it has been 18 months or so... I think I wi wait a few months before I go back again.
It was too crowded. People were standing on the small dance floor because there was no place for them to move to.
Bartenders were fast and music was great. Overall a fun time.Gave 3 stars because I ordered Jack neat and when I receive the drink it was half a shot glass.
Terrible place to go. Definitely should pick a different bar in indy. Bartenders served my friends and I then tried to kick us out about 5 minutes later before we could finish our drinks because they wanted to close half an hour early. Rude and terrible servers and bouncers. Bouncer kicked out some gentleman patiently waiting for their ride inside, out of the cold and rain.
Very unprofessional female bartender on oct 29th yelling and insulting some woman. Don’t really know what happened because I could not hear the costumer as she was not yelling. Impossible to enjoy the atmosphere with someone yelling like that.
I normally do not write reviews but I had such a bad experience at Howl at the Moon Indianapolis last night that I feel people should know. The entertainment was good but customer service was the worst I have experienced in years at a bar.Review your check before you leave!!! I ordered 2 Coors lights from the bar ($9). We had reservations with free admission for 4 people. When I found my seat the waitress was explaining that with our reservations we received 4 complimentary drinks. Now this was something that I did not expect but was happy to receive. Normally I would have just ordered a few beers and been fine. Instead we tried a few of their specialty drinks and then after using the 4 free drinks we switched to beers. Now we ordered a few beers and a whiskey drink but when the check came it was nearly $50. There was no print out of what was ordered, just a bill. We took the bill to the waitress and explained that there was most likely a mistake, the 4 free drinks didn’t come off our bill. The waitress then explained that management told her that the 4 drinks were a mistake, she was told by management to “add the drinks to the tab and see if they notice”. REALLY!!!! We then asked to speak with management and after 10 minutes were able to speak with someone. He comes over and says that we didn’t read the agreement that was “signed” for the reservation. Long story short he was making an attempt to persuade us that we were in the wrong and had to pay for the drinks. After a very short argument he then says, “We’ve already spent too much time on this. We’ll credit it but next time you need to read the agreement.”Bottom line, the waitress or a member of management could have had a discussion with us about the drinks. Instead they decided to sneak the drinks on our bill in hopes that we would be to drunk to notice. Then, when confronted with the issue they did not take responsibility for the mistake instead they blamed us for not reading the agreement. Unacceptable.There were other annoyances that happened that night with employees but I’m not going to rant. Poor Customer service, no one takes responsibility and no one apologizes for mistakes made. Never again will I spend my hard earned money with this business that treats its customers like an ATM.
Music/Band was on point and the drinks were great. The bathroom for the girls was extremely gross though...we had no attendant like my boyfriend had and almost every stall was out of toilet paper.
Waitresses held credit card when arriving. Ordered 4 beers and paid cash for drinks and tip. Waitresses charged my credit card and pocketed the cash. WARNING DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR CREDIT CARD.

Went there this past Saturday for the first time. Atmosphere was great. Although I did put in a request to get my best friend up on stage since it was her bachelorette party. Paid the $20 request fee and waited hours. Went up a couple times to ask about it and was treated like I was lying about turning in a request due to them not being able to find it amongst the unorganized mess. Maybe invest on an app that people can pay through that does the requests in order so none are missed... And maybe offer a refund to those they dont get to. :/ highly disappointed!
Howl at the moon is the most positive place to go downtown. Everyone comes to have a great time and sing along with band which is amazingly awesome. The staff is on point and they also have the cleanest bathrooms downtown. I never understood restroom attendents. Now i do. They definatly help keep line down and keeps everything moving smoothly. The band is so great it amazes me how they can play anything requested. very talented! If you havent been and love music of all types and happy people this is the place to go. Great for birthdays, bachlerette, bachelor, work partys , ect... Check it out! Its Definatly indys number one spot for a great time after hours!
This is the most positive bar downtown indy. Everyone comes to have a great time sing along smile and have fun. Fridays happy hour food buffet is so delicious. Been going here for years. Awesome place if your even in indy check it out! The musicians are awesome they can play any song you request with live instruments. They also keep th he womans restroom line down and clean which if you have been to bars theres normally a line and a mess. Check it out you wo t regret it! Great place to host events and parties for sure!
I have to say, We drove here from Ohio and The management skills were terrible! We paid for our seats on New Years Eve and we were kicked out because some drunk girl who Im sure wasnt even 21 was sitting in them and we asked her to move. The whole experience was awful. The music was great and our waitress was great-- but the management was terrible and the drunk 21 year olds was ridiculous. You would think being in management you wouldnt want girls barely 21 drunk and walking around, then black poor people hanging out outside the doors.Im just saying-- Waste your money elsewhere!
Ehh. LOVE the Fruit Roll up drink. We went for 90s night, and the band was playing stuff from the 70s, 80s and even Demi Lovattos Sorry Not Sorry. It seemed like they were stuck on song ideas. The singer also sang at the same key range for all songs. Some of my favorite songs took me a while to figure out what song it was! Disappointing. Our waiter took a LONG time to get drinks. Only reason I go is for my favorite drink. Otherwise a house band a at local bar sounds much better.
Very small space, Ive been to other Howl at the Moon locations and this so far has been the smallest. I did have fun and the drinks were priced just right for a college student. I would recommend going with a group if they have space.
We got there early, before the entertainment started, enjoyed quick service and what not. The entertainment started with 2 piano players, and it was nice. Our requests were played, even with some resistance. The night went on, we all drank beers, had fun. Then I made another request american soldier, by toby Keith, and under comments I wrote requested by and american soldier. I waited, and waited, and waited. The bar went from 25% packed, to 75% packed. And I waited, and waited, and waited, 10 songs at least (which was twice as many songs as were requested when I submitted mine) until it was blatantly obvious that my request was ignored, that I paid for mind you, to decide that it was time to go. Now whether it was a personal issue with the person that picked up the request, or a political issue with the bar, I dont care, but the fact that a paid request was ignored, is a problem. They are paid to entertain, not enforce their political views.
Talented musicians that play any song from any genre. Drinks prices are whats to be expected for a downtown Indianapolis bar. Definitely worth a night out.

Great venue for a night out with good dance music. I absolutely love this place. This bar offers a large open space and patio. Awesome staff, affordable drinks, and a great energy.
After finding a table and spending over $100 in drinks, my party of 4 was kicked out early. No members of our party were belligerently drunk, but when asking why we were being forced to leave we were not given a straight answer by any of the bouncers and was told not to make a scene. Completely unprofessional.
I made a jump the line reservation 50 hours before I visited the location. I called the location over a dozen times, before 7pm & after 7pm to no avail. I never received a confirmation. When I arrived, the host Chase informed me that I was not on the list. I asked for the manager & Shawn appeared & took care of me. I did not receive the gift cards that accompany a reservation but he secured me a table. My server Taylor ignored me the ENTIRE night. I had to force her to serve me which she did only once. I waited over 1 hour & 20 minutes after my 1st drink order & she promised to return to me after she served other tables but never returned. So I went to the bar where Chris the bartender made up for Taylors mistakes. He made me two very strong drinks which saved my night. Thx host Chase, manager Shawn, & bartender Chris. Taylor almost ruined my nite.
Went there I believe...Saturday night? April 14 or the 15, but we went there because of the special for drinks for anyone going to Comic Con. Well, heck yeah were going to go, discounted drinks, entertainment, food, what better way to spend it? Anyway, so the place is packed but thats just better because the more people there are, the less of a chance someone will see you being stupid. Anyway, so we ordered at the bar for our first drinks. I wish I had gotten names but alas, my insobriety had failed me. But anyway, after my friend decided to push through the throng of people just standing around in the aisles and blocking pathways, we managed to snag a table close to the front. I was unsure if we were allowed to order drinks from the table, I dont usually go to bars, but sure enough...No, I know I got her name. Ok, so we were sitting at the table by a beam, there was an aisle next to us and then another set of tables lining along the wall where people were standing over. Anyway, she just came to us and asked if we wanted anything and let me tell you she is an angel in disguise. I had no clue what I wanted, but I trusted her judgement. Went with a few of the specialty drinks, the Kaze con? Something, but the Sex on the Moon was probably my favorite drink. Spent over 70 bucks, but I still dont regret giving her a 20 dollar tip. Just like I dont regret tipping the bathroom attendent who did an awesome job! Like, honestly she was really funny and she even brought perfume and lotions for women to use. Seriously awesome! Anyway, after getting successfully plastered and giving hobos our straws from our drinks on the walk back to the hotel (Safety is top priority), I can successfully say that that was a night to remember. You guys all rock!
I scheduled a bachelorette party for this weekend and was informed two weeks ago that they would not be open due to Covid. I was given the option to either cancel my reservation and get a refund or reschedule. I requested a refund and was told the money would be back in my account in 5-7 days. I waited 5-7 business days and still nothing. After emailing 3 different times and leaving 2 messages on Friday, I was told that everyone else’s refund besides mine went through and they would check into it on Monday when back in office. So I waited the weekend. I received an email Monday stating they figured it out and I should see it by Thursday. Today is Thursday and I still don’t have the refund. I emailed and called, when I got a response I was told that they could cancel the refund and write me a check that I could pick up at their Chicago corporate office or they could mail it to me. At this point the bachelorette party is in 2 days and I still have no refund. I am appalled that they wanted me to drive to them, and they are still making this difficult on me, the customer who has done nothing wrong in this situation. The final email I received told me I needed to be patient. As if I had not already been patient the last 2 weeks I’ve been waiting on my money. I am highly disappointed with the service I have received and the hoops I have had to jump through to get my money back and I still don’t even have it. I do not recommend this bar to anyone.

I got to tell you I went here one night probably in 2018 in the December to meet someone and this place was on fire they had live music they had people dancing it was nice there was drinks on special. This is the place to go if you have friends or a girlfriend bring him here this is a really cozy spot to be at really good people it was friendly.

Bartenders made a mistake with advertising drink prices and I wasn’t told until after being served. Managers would not honor it and as a result I was charged $3 more dollars per drink than expected. Buyers beware. Music was alright, though there were a lot of wrong chords going on in many of the covers.
Bad experience there with a door man that had a God Complex My wife was not allowed back in saying she had drank too much. The reality was she had 3 drinks all night. They were just very crowded and I think the fact that she is over 40 and does not fit there demographic they wanted us out. I contacted the manager on duty at the time who gave no logical explanation. I then contacted the general manager via email and he never responded. I am guessing if you are over the age of 29, I would avoid this place entirely!
Place was at capacity, no room left to exist, but they still took our groups 80 dollars in cover charges. We left minutes later feeling very cheated, walking past a line of people still getting funneled in.
During high public activity times (like NYE), the line was extremely long for a pretty large cover and an okay venue. Other places were offering lower covers (Killroys was free), and they were more fun.There are better places downtown to go to. Howl and the Moon isnt awful, but it can do better.

I have been to this bar multiple times and I love the vibe-- but last night I had a totally bad experience that will lead me to never return. It was super busy because there was a convention in town and me and my friends were out for a bachelorette party. I went up to the bar to order three different shots, and used the board of drinks behind the bar as a reference for what I wanted. Though it was busy, I had no problem finding a spot at the bar. I ordered one shot that the bar tender knew, but the other two shots I ordered werent real because the way the board behind the bar works is that the shot names are stacked on top of each other instead of written left to right-- the way Americans read. I was ordering mixtures of shots and agree, yes, I was confusing. Instead of being patient and letting me figure things out, the bar tender took matters into his own hands.He went behind the bar and mixed three shots and a drink, then pulled me aside and said he would give me some advice. He told me what I was doing, ordering three different shots, in a crowded bar was very rude and inconsiderate. He said he would have to clean a tumbler three times to make three different shots or drinks, and when the bar is that busy, I shouldnt do that. He then told me he paid for my drinks and that he wasnt yelling at me, but trying to help me.Thank you, for buying my drinks (that I didnt even order), but I do think that this interaction was really inappropriate. Whether the bar is busy or not, mixing three different shots is kind of part of the job description. Then telling me I am rude was even worse. I know its a bear to clean things out and mix a lot of shots, but I would have waited. I understood my order was complicated and would have understood if he told me it make take a moment or two. Instead, at this bar, I was expected to change my drink order for the sake of the bar tender.I appreciate the intent this man had behind telling me how rude I was, but I dont think its right to treat paying customers this way. Especially customers who were just trying to figure things out. I get it. Youre busy. Youre tired. Youre dealing with drunk people all night. But thats really a draw back of the job. Go complain about washing the tumblers out to someone that isnt paying for your service, but please dont take it out on a confused girl trying to buy shots for her friends. And to mention my level of intoxication may be important-- this happened while I was very much sober.
