Throwback KC

They took a cover charge and when we went in it was dead, walked up to the bar, stood for a full 5 minutes while the bartender stood there doing nothing. We left and asked to get our money back as we werent even served. The guy at the door didnt care and said no refunds, thats cool, heres your $30 one star review.

This place has been my go-to when I first started exploring KC as I first moved to Kansas City, that was in 2019. It is now 2022, I do not have to constantly go there for the staff to recognize me, they will listen to you when it comes to ordering drinks, music requests, and my favorite NYE moment was at Throwback. Dont come early, dont come late! The best time to enjoy this place is 10pm-1am in my opinion. The staff does not throw you out, they make sure you have somewhere to go even though that should never be a concern for yourself. Go there if youd like to have a fun, accepting, cool, and nonjudgemental environment in your corner!

Shooters were fun? Staff was nice! Just didn’t know any music. It’s not really a throw back. It’s kinda hipster? Or as my boyfriend said “new school?,” he wanted to leave ASAP! Everything else was perfect though! Wonderful staff! Cool setup. Fun lights! Cheap drinks! Karaoke is really fun to watch! It’s just this place is called throw back so if it weren’t for the music I’d rate it higher. We paid a cover fee on a Wednesday so in the very least I just wish the music could’ve been better we won’t be back any time soon :,) because we are from out of town haha. I would give higher if music was better because it is actually pretty cool looking!!

Do not go here if you want music older than 2020 we went waited almost 2 hours and they played stuff I have never heard before.... literally wasted our night I’m so bummed sweet bartenders sweet staff. But I did not know a single song! They don’t even take requests here!Everyone there kept leaving and coming back. People would try to dance but they weren’t playing anything you could dance to. Lots of bars with good music around town! Cool setup terrible music. Music is from 2020 maybe their personal mix? I have never heard a single song in my entire life. Seriously I would’ve been happy with 2000-2010. It’s called throw back but this ain’t it.

This place has so many reviews about how they put their hands on ppl. It’s true.Do not risk coming here. I have seen them pick up grown men and throw literally THROWN them on the ground outside.I told a bouncer to leave me alone and he wouldn’t so I told him to BACK OFF and he took it as some threat or something and tried grabbing me. I told him to stop and I will leave. Then he kept trying to grab me. No I wasn’t drunk and I had just got there. He left multiple bruises on my arm and the police said there wasn’t anything they could do. This place is disgusting and they hire disgusting disrespectful people. Please stop coming here!

If I can give zero stars I would. My party spent $800 for a booth and bottle. We was kicked out of our booth because we didn’t buy another bottle. Never in my life have I paid for a booth and got kicked out. They called all of security and caused a huge scene when we refused to give up our booth. Mind you we spent $800 at this establishment. The security was super rude and put there hands on the women and men and kicked us out. DO NOT GO TO THIS CLUB! So unprofessional and no one informed us that we have to have active bottles when we originally reserved. They are money hungry and will kick you out if you aren’t buying. Avoid this establishment at all cost! My uncle is the mayor of Kansas City and he will definitely hear about this!!!

0 out of 10. They took forever to bring the TWO bottles I paid for. When I asked for a song request security said it was $100 per request 👎🏻👎🏻 unprofessional not worth the $$$. 0 out of 10. First and last time I go there.

The music played here is the best, all my favorites, the place was super packed, lines outside to get in. The place is small , and with all the people there you can’t even dance, we were literally bodies to bodies up in there. The price to get in was weird ,sign on door said $15 for girls ok sounds good, but the men after midnight started at $40 then 1am the price increased and another increase after 2am, you would think the closer it is to shutting down would be cheaper. But overall it was a good place to kick it.

I witnessed the security assault someone here for literally no reason at all and when I tried to help the poor guy off the ground and ask why they were hurting him they kicked the both of us out. Also had some friends that got kicked out of their VIP booth after paying for it! Terribly mixed drinks for 10$. Literally the same as the door fee. Violently aggressive security. Don’t come here unless you have a camera to record the possible harm their security might incur to you.

Paid 400$ for VIP service just to be kicked out once I bought the minimum requirement of two bottles. Then were we told to just stick around and pay for more alcohol. Last time I checked once you bought a VIP table it was yours for the night as long as you purchased the 2 bottle minimum. Guess I was wrong. Manager there was garbage and so were some of the waitresses. Would recommend that place for a good time they are garunteed to ruin your night

Was expecting throwback music with an older crowd from overview and reviews. Contemporary hip hop played with everyone under 25. The back karaoke bar was empty, went to ask the bartender a question and she bit our heads off. Totally explained why it was empty! Didnt even finish our drinks after paying for them and a cover and high tailed it to friendlier grounds. DONT RECOMMEND.

Great atmosphere, music, and times! The VIP area is ok, providing a little space for dancing. The bottle service is great, and the display are cool. The best part is the music! A throwback to long, long ago. Like the 90s!

We reserved a booth for our friend’s bachelorette party to spend some time after dinner and a party bus. We were prepared to spend quite a bit of money here. Apparently, their power went out, and they wouldn’t let the three people that went outside to smoke back inside because of this (one was the bachelorette). When we tried to ask why or reason, the waitresses physically shoved us, and the bouncer “escorted” us out roughly. The entire operation seems very unprofessional and cheap. Not somewhere I would recommend.

Horrible expierence. Was told that I would not get served unless I tipped. The funny thing is, both my brother and I were about to tip the waitress, but hey good service gives you a good tip. During this situation the bartender proceeded to tell the other women not to serve us either. When we told the manager his answer was that we would get better service on the karaoke side... horrible conflict/resolution. Besides that I have no complaints about the music, but you can get good music at far better places in Westport, and around kc.

Cool, little laid back bar. Security is professional, and courteous. I dont think I would ever buy bottle service from here, because if someone spends more money than you, then you would have to move out of VIP.

This was once Americas Pub,a large venue with capacity of 3 to 400.Now Throwback occupies the front section and has a capacity of about 120? Wednesday was an unusual very slow night with a small crowd.The music was fair,I prefer virgin Musik instead of improved mixed and mashed songs. Some were original virgin and good to dance to.

Would leave zero if I could. Security physically harassed my friends. Wouldn’t allow them entry for no reason whatsoever. Never go here. You’ll have a much better time down at Aura nightclub.

Great music, great DJ! Had a lot of fun, but it got REALLY crowded later in the night. VIP seating is minimum 2 rounds of bottle service, FYI. Overall, lots of fun. There is a cover charge.

Great place for those in their early twenties; however, there is a lot of chaos that goes down at the end of the night every time I’ve been there. Last year I witnessed a shooting in which three people were killed right outside of throwback, which could have been me if I didn’t leave 30 seconds earlier. It’s not throwback’s fault, but heads up on the safety of that area, as I literally ran for my life when the gunshots went off.

First transaction of the night I bought a five dollar beer with a $20. Somehow got $10 back in change. When I pointed out this error I was met with attitude from the bartender but at least got the amount I was owed back. One reason I dont open tabs is because of this. I caught it cause it was early and I hadnt been drinking, wonder how many people they have scammed this way. Other than that seemed like a pretty decent place. Just watch your money

Went to of key had a room very entertaining had lots of fun. With that being said they really need to upgrade there song books add more songs from more artist. The drinks are expensive (unless i havent been out in a whileand thats the going rate) but still not with it as there was hardly any liquor in them. Service is great music is loud and the vibe is fun

Standard Westport scene bar filled with early 20 somethings. Lots of dude bros, loud and bass heavy music, smoke machines and packed on weekends. Not a fan of the pat down at the door, or the cover charge. The karaoke can be pretty entertaining though. Probably only worth it if you can get a private room.

Kicked out my friends from VIP cause they said they hadnt spent enough money. After they had spent over $800 over there course of 2 hours. Just thought it was a lame thing to do. And they were rude to the parties involved as well. The bar is small and filled with little VIP tables that are hardly worth the money. The bar has become a VIP hustle..

Love the vibe and the atmosphere. Cool place but I wish they would actually play throwbacks. It was mainly rap music that we just couldnt dance to or knew. Killed the vibe.

I would put no stars if I could. I work in the industry and I go above and beyond to understand that things happen and am very understanding. I was not allowed in because I had Saints gear on. Heard the GM directly say not to let me in because I had Saints gear on. I would say that’s discrimination. Genuine review. Only 2 reviews I ever posted, so it’s legit.

I had the worst experience ever when it comes to buying a booth for my birthday. We got kicked out of the club last night because we didn’t continue buying bottles and we already bought 3. They slammed my friend on the ground because we all refused to leave. That’s is unexpectable treatment to paying customers and I don’t care what your policy is you don’t treat people that way just because you trying to capitalize. DO NOT buy a booth at this club it’s a VIP scam!!!!

If you love the 80s and 90s, this is the place for you! Half dance club, half karaoke. A large selection of drinks and plenty of room to dance and get wild. Perfect for a get together with friends or even a bachelorette party. Its sure to satisfy all who come with you!

I got kicked out because I was warned I wasn’t wearing my mask properly, when NO ONE else was wearing their mask properly. When the VIP bouncer that was watching the vip section I was in said I was fine, because I had a drink I my hand. He Decided that on my way out as I was leaving he would put his hands on me and physically push me out the club when I was leaving on my own time. Shows a lot about the NON control you have over your bouncers.

I went with a bunch of my buddys had to pay to get in. We werent in there for two minutes before the bouncer with blonde hair and a broken hand kick my buddy out saying he grabbed a servers ass. Afterward we asked the bouncer to talk to the server and he found out that in fact that wasnt the case but would let our friend back in. We all paid to be there and were taken advantage of by this bar. Do not go here!!!!!!!!!! Staff is horrible and so is management.

I wish I could rate this lower than one star. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS BAR!! My girlfriends and I were in town for an interview, and decided to check this place out. We’re from South Dakota, and the bouncer was rude from the start. A short guy with gages, and he accused us of having fake IDs. He took them from us and told them to get out of the bar. We panicked, as we needed our drivers license for the hotel, drive home and interview. We called the cops and had them come in and prove our IDs were real. After giving our IDs back, the bouncer proceeded to tell us we are not welcome there and flipped us off. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I’ve never been treated so horrible.

I experienced racism like I did not know was possible! I went to this place, knowing that I was in the minority, as a white woman, but I dont concern myself with such things. Previously, it was pretty much a non issue, save for a couple rude black girls calling me racial slurs. But this time, I was refused the right to sing karaoke over and over again. The DJ would call name after name and skip song after song until the person raising their hand was a black person.I stood directly at the edge of the bar for more than 15 minutes, and the black bartenders helped everyone around me, but not me. I ended up having to go to the end of the bar where a white girl was working to get drinks.This place could be a lot of fun if everyone layed the race card aside. Mistreating people due to skin color is inappropriate, no matter which way you slice it.

They dont allow taking calls in the club, but there are no visible signs around. We buy bottles and table service atleast twice a month and they asked us to leave because we had to take a call. Gone way down since the new manager (black dread head dude) took over. Rather pay those bottle services somewhere else. Seriously...

Overcharges for drinks and attempts to Blane you as the customer for not ordering a well drink and assuming you want the highest end drink they have. With this being said a very fun environment bit would never record going there for the way they try to take advantage of those drinking through the night

Ehhh its an okay place to lay low and chill on Wednesday. Theres some pretty bad karokee but a really nice and indifferent bar lady (doppelganger of Camiah Bissell). They do make an alright Cosmo, Terrible Appletini recipe though. The private rooms are awesome if you have a group. The dance floor pumps tons of unwanted - gag worthy- fog, but maybe youll not mind if you have another drink.....

Great music, good security. I was displeased that a fight broke out but thats what happens when people cant control their drinks. We went the night before thanksgiving and the bar tenders were dressed like turkeys and Indians. I would go back.

I always go to the Kareokee side, OffKey. Drinks are good. Music is good. Friendly atmosphere. Be sure to go before 1030 to get your song played. Once its packed itll be hard for you to get to sing a song. They have private party rooms to do kareokee as well. Never a bad place.

The place is cramped on weekends and hot *as in temperature* & body heat/sweat, cover charges dont always match the excitement youll find inside. But Ive had some great times here regardless. If you do go here , just dont order nore deal with the blond bartender...shes.. something eles everyone eles is awsome

Lots of private rooms if needed and a vip section close to the bar. Elbow to elbow. Everybody had a great time. Dj was live. Its also connected to another bar that has places to sit and plays different music. (classic rock I think. IDK. I was there to dance). Good place to turn up.

I loved the idea of video games and drinks. The theme is fun and the staff looked great in 80s gear! I think they need more games though. Good place with a good gimmick:)

Wasnt sure wed find fun on a Thursday. But the front door guy told my friend she couldnt get in because a see through shirt & she had a jacket over it, so we went to the side door and that guy let us in with nooo problem 😉 still had fun

I am a nurse who was helping a girl that happened to be throwing up. Next thing I know security was asking me to step outside and said I was getting kicked out and couldn’t give me an explanation. When he said he could help me get back in I told him I didn’t care to step back into that establishment after I cleaned up that girl’s (who was a stranger to me) vomit for them and took care of her. And continued to another bar for my service.

Was told we could not get in because the male that was with me had shorts on and it looks like he is sagging. He pulled up his shirt to show that he had a belt on and he was not sagging.We were still rejected. We rolled passed and a group of white boys walked in all with shorts got in . I guess they dont like black people with shorts. This was are first time there.

Was there sunday and security is trash the djs assistant is trash got kick out because i wanted to request a song after the dj announce that he was taking request. I was only there scouting out venues for a high profile artist from Cali who is looking to hold an event down here sad to say club rude will not be my pick after how i was treated. Security staffs needs to be fired and learn how to listen and to keep there hands to thereselves. Never again will i step foot inside such trash..

Remember to wear a belt everyone. You can’t get IN the bar without one. They’re bartenders have attitudes when they’re working. I understand they’re being safe, but losing money because someone doesn’t need a belt is ridiculous.

Say what? Door guy wanted to charge us $40 A PIECE to get in. Someone from the place we had just left (L-O-L) happened to be standing there talking to him and said to wave us thru. The 90s and early 2000s vibe of this bar is a lot of fun. Its a great change from some of the other bars in Westport. The staff all dress in 90s themed outfits, and 90s/00s music is always playing. Drinks are a bit pricey, but thats to be expected in KC.

Nice staff and great music. Our go to spot to go dancing! Security is always present and they always make us feel safe.

This place sucks. I’ve been kicked out 4 times now for no reason. They over charge me and kick me out 3 hours later. Kicked my friend and boyfriend out because they didn’t like his pants? Worst place to go to. I highly don’t recommend

Their machines have bad input lag on them and janky digital dpads. Ok if you are drunk, not if you want authentic experiences.All their machines but 1 are snes emulator multi in ones.The staff is nice.

It was a cool place but the music is only rap and hip hop, you cant dance or enjoy rally the night. I thing they have to change the DJ or play more pop/electronic or other kind of music

Super lit, but they let it get too crowded sometimes. Some nights, like last night (Halloween), cover is as much as $20. The music is always on point, getting a table is the way to go for sure. Thats the full experience.

Literally the worst bartending service Ive ever had. The bartender lost my card and started yelling at me saying i never started a tab. They ended up kicking me out over the incident because the bartender was upset. The bartender with the long beard is literally the worst bartender in KC. never go to this place

Kicked out a service member for joking with a cocktail waitress. Bouncer thought he grab her bottom and the waitress said no he was just joking but still kicked him out. They had no businesss maybe 30 people in the club but still turned down customers. Sad establishment.

There was a bouncer who said he grabbed a servers ass and kicked him out. Then the server came back and said he didnt he was trying to get her attention to buy a shot but he proceeded to say he cant come in. This bar has a problem with little mans syndrome as the councer was about 57 with longer blonde hair with a crippled hand.

It was alright not my favorite spot, bouncer over charged and when it was brought to his attention he made it straight, but another bar staff came up and asked if we paid...that was shady

When I walk in it SUCKED. I can get a building and throw a way better throwback. The music sucked, the food took almost 2 hrs, they need to put all the bartenders back in class because the drinks really suck , and the shots are weak ass hell. My friends and I left to go to Kellys to get better drinks, shots, and food.

Love the atmosphere and the variety of people! The music selection is usually always great and it seems that Thursdays and Sundays are the best days to go!

The music and the DJ were great. Too many younger kids who never even lived in the 80s or the 90s. So we left by midnight.

It’s pretty laid back and has a lot of catchy tunes just remember to respect other people’s space and don’t try to step on anyone’s toes it’s just common courtesy. 🤗

This place is now half the size it used to be. The owner has flooded it with little vip areas. Harldly any room when the place gets crowded because of that. This place is nothing but a vip hustle now.
