Boyfriend and I were dancing and he picked me up and we fell accidentally. They kicked us out when we barely made a scene, there was barely anyone down where we were dancing together. It was an honest mistake, we werent drunk just enjoying each other. I get it if we were stumbling and being loud and causing fights, etc, understandable. But we were doing NONE of the above. We were not drunk at all, we were just having fun. To be kicked out for that reason and to be asked to not come back was excessive and was unacceptable. I get there are certain rules that must followed, but when talking to said people, if we do not showcase stuttering, slurred speech, hunched over and unresponsive are all reasons to kivk someone out. We didnt meet any of the above requirements to actually kick anyone out for ill behavior. We are not not loud, we were just having a moment together. Rules of an establishment should be where you walk in and can read it upon entering. If there are specific rules then they should be showcased. Other than him picking me up and we fell there was not actually any reason to kick us out, a notification to not do that would have been acceptable. My boyfriend had just told me loved me tonight and we were in the rose colored glasses moment, we are sorry if we did cause a scene. The excitement was real and we were not too drunk to be handled by the rude bartender. It was a wholesome moment and this bar does not accept that apparently. We drove home and made it safely because WE WERE NOT DRUNK!!! Just enjoying the moment together. I get they have a lot of those types of customers but based on the characteristics of said drunk person, we did not meet those requirements. The environment was acceptable.
Its a fun cozy little gay bar in Kansas City. The drink prices are reasonable and the workers have always been friendly to me. I just wish the place could be bigger because it does sometimes feel cramped.
Went on brat night and while it was extremely crowded so the line to the bar took a while all of the staff i interacted with was really nice even though i’m sure they were exhausted! will definitely be coming back!
Checked out this bar Saturday night. There was a good crowd. The DJ was playing some great 80s remix and some current tunes too. Bartenders were busy but pretty quick with the drink orders. People were very friendly. The layout is on several different levels, none of the rooms are just real big but it didnt feel cramped. We stayed till the bar closed and will definitely go back on our next trip home to KC.
Woody’s is one of my all-time favorite LGBTQ+ establishments! From the friendly staff, to the value they place on finding great entertainment, and right down to the welcoming patio; Woody’s is my go-to place when it comes to catching up with old friends and making new ones! I’ve appreciated the measures they’ve taken to ensure a fun, safe, and affirming atmosphere throughout the past year.
On a Sunday afternoon, the bartender asked to see my ID. shortly thereafter there was a patron making ageist comments.I am 50 years old.the atmosphere was not chill or relaxing, imho.this is mid America, there was no style or openness or kindness.it did smell like a bathroom.
Fun place for sharing drinks and good times!
No longer serving food but always serving up a good time
The bartender is cute and pours a stiff margarita. What more can I say?
They have an amazing space with a great atmosphere and amazing bartender who know what they are doing 🤩🤩 highly recommend
Bartenders were welcoming and fast. Drinks were strong. Average to slightly high prices but the atmosphere was good. Nice sized outdoor smoking patio. And the bathrooms were seriously clean. Will be back.
Woodys is my GO TO bar in Kansas City. The staff is always kind. The drinks are always cold. There are always fun events! Such an inclusive space! Plus the iconic pride stairs are ALWAYS a perfect photo op. Im also extremely happy they are taking a stand to protect their staff and patrons by requiring vaccination cards during the Covid-19 pandemic. Keep it up! Im excited to continually support them in the future.
What a cool little hidden gem! I came here to check out Broadway Cabaret with Amelia Bearhardt and I am so glad I did. Amelia recommended a pineapple upside down martini and it was one of the best drinks Ive had in KC and I will definitely be back for another. I cant wait to return and hang out in the company of beautiful creatures, drink great cocktails, and relax with my favorite show tunes. Thank you, Woodys, for bringing Amelia Bearhardt and pineapple upside down martinis into my life -- I cant wait to come back!
Starting out, the experience was fine. Then my sister and I went to use the restroom. As we were walking towards the restroom, one of the staff members yelled in the rudest way “put your mask on” towards my sister and my she lifted her mask over her nose. I get wearing a mask as that really wasn’t an issue at all. My sister must have just not noticed that it was pulled down (we were just coming in from the patio). Then we went to use the restroom and both of us went in. Now I didn’t notice the sign that prohibits this in regards we we’re told to leave. Now, I do take accountability for not following that rule but it was unintentional. When we were told to leave I went to the patio to grab my husband along with two of our friends. While making our way back to get them, the same staff member who yelled at my sister proceeded to follow me and hit me on the shoulder. I turned around and she began to yell at me to wear my mask (even though my mask was on the entire time). I responded that my mask was on and that we were leaving, she continued to get verbally aggressive. After repeating myself that we were in fact leaving she snatched my drink out of my hand and smashed the glass bottle on the pavement. She then grabbed me and shoved me into the door frame leading in from the patio and threw me out. This entire altercation could have been prevented if she would have just accepted the fact that we were leaving respectfully. In this case, she had a bad attitude and mishandled the entire situation to say the least. My group and I were being respectful and tactful. We were indeed mistreated. As for myself, I was in no way intoxicated, refusing to abide or showing acts of violence to any of the staff or customers who were present. I, myself have worked in the bar industry as a server and the service I received was far from justified.I hope my review will help prepare you if you decide to visit Woody’s. This has got to be the worst experience I’ve had with a business and the staff was extremely unprofessional. I hope that the staff at woody’s will take accountability for their actions. If they really want their company to stay in business, I suggest they start with the attitude of their staff and start weaving bad employees out.
Was visiting from Seattle last weekend and was particularly impressed with how fast the bartenders were pouring despite the huge crowd. Will definitely go back next time I’m in KC.
Woody’s is one of the bars I frequent most in Kansas City. It is always a good time, and the staff is warm and welcoming. They host great events and parties on the weekends, and fun happy hours, game nights, and karaoke throughout the week. They have a great patio that is perfect for a Sunday Funday as well.
I always have a fun time. Jeff, the owner, is such a nice guy. Always makes sure to say Hi to me.Bear Happy Hours from 4-8 is my favorite time to go. I get a taco special every time. They are to die for. And trivia Tuesdays at 6 is great for free fun!Definitely recommend.
Terrible bar, terrible staff. Claim to be an all inclusive safe space but in actuality very clique. If youre not I their circle they dont want you. The management has no clue how to run a bar and has clearly hired terrible bartenders that will ignore you or take forever to get a drink. Over all, sad cuz it could be a decent place with better management.
Food is cooked off site at Hamberger Marys. Took over 40 minutes to get it. It was OK. The place has a modern look on the outside. On the inside you step back in time (not in the best way) to the 1920s. With some pop culture sports motif splashed here and there. The staff was friendly. As indicated by the Rainbow flag out front, it is a gay bar. Seems like a good place to cool off and quench a thirst...not so much for a date or dinning out.
Woodys has a cool atmosphere. Trendy decor, heated patio, games like pool, beer pong and Jenga. The drinks are on par with other bars in the area. However, like most gay bars, its dominated by men.The male bartenders arent always friendly to female patrons and neither are the male patrons. They have whats basically a girls night every so often geared towards women who like women. But the turnout is usually pathetic and the DJ is terrible. Before long, the place is filled with men again. Its way more chill and female-friendly than a place like Missie Bs. But its still just another place for gay men to hang out, which is disappointing. A true lesbian bar is needed in KC.
4 stars because it not really my scene. I did enjoy myself there with friends. Its a cool kick it spot. The atmosphere appeared super friendly and drama free. The pretzels sticks with the beer cheese are fire and the perfect midnight snack. OMG they are so good!! Drink prices are a little high but on par for a night out. It is a smaller place and its butt cheek to butt cheek after midnight, but if you are looking for a smaller place with a quite atomsphere to start the night, this is the place.
This is a great place to hangout . This place is very inclusive to all different types of people. I have found that this is a great gay bar in Kansas City. The staff are friendly and professional that I enjoy spending time with. They also have good wings.
For the gay community. A must. When you want to just hang out with your husband, have a few great drinks, and just chill and sing some karioke. Or hang outside and meet a cool crowd. First dates? Perfect place to just chat and get to know a person. Bartenders are laid back and extremely friendly...as are the patrons. This is a kcmo treasure bot to be missed by my generation
For covid safety this bar has taken all steps to keep the people inside safe from covid. They can be very abrupt about it at times but their intentions are to keep the spread down. I have visited many bars since covid, this bar is one of the best at keeping people safe. I know for some it comes across rude but they are trying to keep their message of covid safety a top priority from the time you walk in to the time you leave.
Woodys has my heart. The staff are so awesome. The drag watch parties are always a blast and the themed events feature some of my favorite djs in the City. Plus that rainbow staircase is killer.
Absolutely love this place, and I love that they require vaccination cards. I feel safe here knowing that other people have taken measures to protect others and themselves. Filters out the other people, if you know what I’m sayin…*cough cough*
Nothing but amazing things to say about this place! Amazing staff and events!I’m also glad they are keeping everyone safe during this crazy time. 100% recommend!
Woodys has the best events every week! They do Ru Pauls Drag Race Viewings, alongside awesome Weekly themed events. The bartenders and hosts are really great as well
Great bar to relax and enjoy a drink with friends. The staff are always friendly. They throw some awesome parties too.
The drinks were really good and the service was prompt and super friendly, everytime. The atmosphere is very comfy and good music with awesome choices for tv too!
Great employees, friendly fun good service. Comfortable feel.Only less than positive, their upstairs room for partys is very hot! Need to figure out some AC!
I felt welcome as soon as I walked in the door. The bartender remembered what I was drinking after just one order. The food is unique and comes out hot and fresh.
Woody’s is the perfect place to start or end your night. The staff is kind and cares about their patrons and we always have a great time!

Its a nice bar, but just like all of the other bars in KC. Its geared towards thinks. I know Im old but when I go out to a gay bar, I want to be with gay men.
Great bar to go and just hang out. Music isnt too loud to have a conversation. Love the patio.
Woodys is a nice chill gay sports bar in midtown. It is a great place to get your night started and to catch up with friends.
It is SAFE here:) My friends and I LOVE Woodys!! Staff is always friendly!!! Food is amazing and its just a warm atmosphere :)
Extra charges on my card from Woody’s. The experience was alright, but not worth the extra charges on my card. Glad I go through my transactions .. $42.50 out of nowhere
Really Expected more from this place. The music wasnt good. No atmosphere. Terrible drinks. Waste of time for real.
