Im Totally impressed 👏 the venue is actually better in person than pictured! I love the floor space and the layout it seems like a good view from pretty much anywhere you stand the air filtration was great and security was present at all times, there were ZERO 🚫 issues at my event while seeing THE LOX I highly recommend and I will visit again. This venue is a 5min walk from Temple Street Garage and nearby bars 🍸 and restaurants 👌 felt safe and had fun #THE L.O.X 30TH ANNIVERSARY 🎤 🎙 🔥
Awesome venue. Intimate and set up very nicely. We ended up sitting in the highest section (302) which was still a cool view. Acoustics were okay, but that could have been on the band. I was so impressed at the ease of grabbing a drink and using the restrooms. I commend the friendly staff at all points, and also appreciate the cleanliness of the facility and bathrooms.
The “Front Balcony” section is all the way to the back of the venue and you can barely see the stage. One more concert venue with a deceiving seating chart and section naming. We are sitting at the “front balcony” but somehow we are the 6th row from the back of the room. If the venue had more expensive tickets I would buy them obviously. The venue itself is pretty and coming in was easy and hassle free. Just beware of the seating!
Enjoyed the Hell out of my first visit to College Street Music Hall. It’s a nice tight venue located in the heart of the Yale neighborhood. Lots of restaurants and bars around for before and after shows.Servers plenty enough to quickly hydrate the crowd. Love the layout on the ground floor GA section. Sounded great this night. Fun show. Good crowd. I’ll look forward to future shows…
Ive seen about 10 concerts here and its such a phenomenal venue. Located around a bunch of great restaurants and bars before you go to the show. The venue itself is incredibly well run. Excellent acoustics, and a great layout. The orchestra section has the chairs removed and they have tiered standing room instead which is brilliant because it ensures everyone can see the stage. I absolutely love this venue.
You come to see a concert, and all you hear is garbled noise. Perhaps one of the WORST places to HEAR music. Middle School Auditoriums have a better sound. Hell, I have seen dive bars with better sound systems. Bad enough we walked out because it was painful to see a band we really enjoy pour their hearts into a performance their fans heard as WHHHHMMMPPPHNow,, to SEE a band, great place. Nice layout, ease of parking, plenty of bathrooms. Staff super friendly.Put a collection box out to collect donations for a new system. Put a surcharge on every ticket that 100% goes towards fixing/upgrading. The place is a gem. Shame it will be unable to compete with the current set up.
Absolute worst sound system of any venue I have ever been to. I am dumbfounded by the positive reviews. Great layout, clean bathrooms, great staff….but if you are there to actually hear live music, THE WORST. I went the first year they opened and figured they had to work out the kinks. Nope - still bad. Real music lovers should avoid at all cost - never again no matter how much I love the band.
Great place for shows, seats upstairs or standing room downstairs. I prefer front row balcony as its a good view of the stage, I can sit if I need, and easy access to the bar and restrooms.
3.6 beautiful old venue and gorgeous floor. That vintage hardwood. Not quite as good as the floor at two roads, if you know you know, but a good floor. A lot of character in the building.New Haven has a lot of food and parking and is very walkable, so big points for that. Drinks were usual prices, expensive. $30 for a double rum and coke and seltzer. Acoustics arent great.... so I want to see something other than rock or loud music. We saw bad religion. Noise is very bouncy, and vocals are very muted.BR killed it though
Great venue, awesome location and the seats are amazing in the balcony and also the standing area. Also amazing and I am short. I was able to enjoy a concert.
Great intimate venue! They dropped Live Nation so they are an independent venue now. Security was great! Except the mean fat lady who wouldnt let me use the LARGE restroom at the end of the show. Instead she forced me to wait forever on the small unisex one after I made it clear I wouldnt leave without it.
We went to see Chvrches. The show was great, parking (in the garage across the street) was easy. $9 prepay. We thought we had great balcony seats (Balcony Front 204, Row: G, Seat: 102 & 104). The view was GREAT right in between the railing opening for the stairs and at a little angle over the aisle. However, it proved to be the worst spot because everyone walked everywhere through the entire show. Not just walking through but stopping at the stair opening. I counted for ONE SONG and there were 17 people who walked by. So annoying. I suggest getting seats in the lower balcony or high enough to see above people standing up on the walkway. Also from our row and up, the seats were SUPER tight, in width and leg room. See the picture of our leg room (with our heights marked) and the picture of the spacious leg room of the guy (who was about 6 feet tall) one row down across the aisle. It seemed like the leg room was more in the same row across the aisle than where we were on the side. Having said all of that, Id go to another show here.
This is an outstanding venue. The acoustics are excellent. The staff is gracious and accommodating. No bad seats in the house. Drinks are priced appropriately with craft beer and top self offerings.Every band I have seen here has sounded great and many of them played complex layered music without any loss of fidelity in the space. The venue is located directly across from a parking garage. Many restaurants and bars surround the location for pre or post show enjoyment.
Nice little venue! Seats are tight if youre taller and the sound was a little distorted at higher levels but the place is very clean. They have all types of drinks available, even coffee, and food was also available on site. Parking is easy with all the garages around. There are plenty of places to sit down and eat after a show as well. Check out Insomnia Cookies - delicious!
Not a very good venue for performance. Very cramped seating,( you sat on folding chairs piled so close to each other, your closer to the stranger next to you, than your wife and child.). We were there for my childs first concert, and by the grace of luck, nobody was seated in front of her. My wife and I were another matter entirely. The performance was amazing, but I credit that to everybody but the venue. This is not stadium seating, so do not expect a clear view if you do not sit in the front row of your section. Bars are easily located, as are bathrooms. There was a cute taco stand inside that served really good tacos and nachos.
Came to see Johnnyswim here last weekend and was incredibly surprised by how small and intimate the venue was! It was floor only, with seats and tables on the main floor and then three steps down into the “pit” like where an orchestra would go, but with enough space for a hundred people. Maybe because it was rescheduled four times for Covid, but it wasn’t thst crowded and even after arriving late I was able to work my way to the third row and later the front by the last half hour! So impressed and so pleasantly surprised!! The sound was amazing and the artists were so close it was like they were singing in your living room. All the concertgoers were so chill and happy; there were even kids there. The most unique concert vibe I’ve ever experienced and I really loved it. Also parking at the lot across the street was a breeze and very reasonably priced!
This is a small but good sized venue right in the heart of New Haven! I had no trouble finding street parking on a Saturday and its metered til 9pm, not bad. The GA floor is tiered with about 3 sections, so you can see pretty well even if youre in the back. Plenty of bathrooms and they were pretty clean. Venue staff was nice, I had no issues with them. Id come back for a show here again!
One of our favorite venues in the New Haven area. Have seen everything from storytellers to hyperpop to hardcore here and have never had anything but a fantastic night. The staff is all friendly, courteous and helpful, the venue and bathrooms are clean, the sound and lightwork is some of the best in the area and the crowd is always a vibe. Tiered floor space allows for great GA experience for shorties and really no bad seats in the house. Drink prices are totally on par for the area and theres an outdoor smoking area for those who partake.Dont forget to take a moment to look up at the beautiful painted ceilings and details of the space while youre there.
Great show but the ushers were idiots. Sent us to the wrong section for are seats. It was also tight seating.
Great for those able to walk or uber to venue and stand for 2+ hours. Bad for those who want seats (mostly balcony) and need parking. If lucky, you park in modestly safe lot and are stuck for almost an hour trying to exit. If unlucky, you park in a lot subject to car break-in and/or theft and if not, still stuck for an hour trying to exit.
The show was great and everything was pretty awesome. Definitely tight seating and it kinda sucks to not be able to a top on a water bottle when you buy it but other than that, Great show. Would definitely return for another show.
Great.Venue lots of space to move around and be up front or be in the spot with a great view in less crowded lots of spots to get to the bar hardly ever line.Everything is good sound is great
Nate was the BEST greeter/ navigator/security / doorperson / service person ever. He even kindly walked my mom with vision issues back to our area safely. We went for a vip show and his service was beyond memorable. Thanks for bringing jj grey and mofro to new haven and for having the best and most kind staff ever!
Nice venue, good views, pretty good sound both times Ive went. Some food, tacos, they are ok. Staff is usually pretty friendly, some are not. Overall nice place to see a show.
Smaller venue. Every seat has a great view of the stage. Adult beverages are served near the swag tables out front. Prices are not as bad as bigger venues but still not cheap. Near great restaurants/near a parking garage and street parking if you can get it
Awesome venue... It was sold out but I still didnt feel like I was being trampled to death. Half of the people I was with were up in the balcony in the seats. I couldnt go up because it was a sold-out show but they said the seats were great. I was in the general admission section on the floor which is sloped and has multi tiers to stand on. I saw Chvrches and I could count the Stars on her boots. My only complaint would be the sound system. If you are up close to the stage youre past the speakers. But as far as I know no one left with their ears ringing. Which is usually a sign of good sound. Ill definitely go back !!!!
Do not stand too close to the stage because you will not hear anything! Choose the first or second standing mezzanine for a better aural experience
This is probably the best overall music venue in Connecticut. They book great bands here. The theater has a balcony as well as several levels for the audience and the stage is a good height up. So its easy to find a spot where you can see the band. The bar is at the back and is well-run, however the prices are very high. You cant get a drink for less than $7, and the vast majority cost $9 - $12. Its one of the only problems with the venue, though parking is also often a bit of an issue. You often have to park at least a block or two away. However, overall its still the best music venue in CT.
Great place to see a show. We saw Big Head Todd and the Monsters this past weekend. You can get standing room near the stage, folding chairs in the back area of the floor, or reserved seats in the balcony. Well stocked bars on both levels. Clean bathrooms. Parking across the street or down the block if you prefer.
My favorite place to see a show. Small setting makes just about every seat a good one, and the convenience of having a parking garage nearby is great.
I came with my two daughters to watch jon batistethe experience was absolutely horriblei spent $400 to enter an overbooked venue with no place to go a disorganized environnement and very impolite and agressive employes...we felt misstreated the all way except for this very professionnal polite gentleman with a cowboy hat who found us a spot all the way to the side behind railingspoor view with constant abuse from employes to repositionned us away exit doorswell !!!!! do not overbookjon batiste as a very sensitive artist would have been very distraught to know thathe saved the night of coursebut barelythe experience was extremely upsettingi wish to add that this is a very first review in my entire lifei am never a complainerbut the non professionalism and borderline abuse was incomprehensibleall the way down to the rude look alike santa and the screaming elderly lady at the entrancei am profondly saddened by this experiencewe drove 6 1/2 hours for this
Dont bother getting seats in the lower 204/203 level (mid balcony rows) if you want decent views and minimal distractions. Its not high enough. Maybe part of it was just the crowd in particular, but people kept getting up NONSTOP to get beers, use the bathroom, leave...etc. Didnt matter if it was in the middle of the songs.Constant waves of people walking in front and blocking the view.In addition to that, so many people just couldnt be bothered to show up on time. Nearly half an hour after the headliner starts people are still coming in, standing in front wondering where theyre supposed to sit...A combination of poor punctuality, inconsideration, and poor balcony design contributed to distractions that made the show a little more difficult to enjoy than it shouldve been. They really need to redesign the balcony seats.Bostons House Of Blues at least has the seats considerably higher past the walking area, so people can walk without getting in anyones view. It also allows people to get up and dance in an area without blocking views. Thats the way it should be done. Also, the crowd at the Boston was far more considerate and most people arrived on time. I sat down and got up only once.
Staff was pleasant. The atmosphere was good. Went to see Terry gender bender and The Mars Volta and I thoroughly enjoyed the shows. Light show was great, instruments sounded great. The sound guys did a good job. Parking was atrocious, I had to park like three blocks away, but what do you expect in the city. That has nothing to do with the actual venue which was great overall
Tonight my wife and I went to a show and decided to get a drink, we were ID’d at the door and got a wristband(as you can see in the picture). We walk up stairs to get a quick drink before the show started. The male bartender with a beard said he needed to see our ID because they double check them for safety. I understand if it’s their policy so we gave him our IDs.He runs in under the machine they use. Then he tells us they were fake. He went to bend them worse than what they are in the pictures. He told us he has never seen vertical IDs. He tells us real IDs don’t bend that way and that if we wanted he would call his manager and the police “if we wanted to take it there”. I said go ahead because we had nothing to hide.As we were waiting 5 minutes for the “manager” to show up (the show begins). The bartender pulls out the booklet to read and double check. The “manager” checks the IDs and says they look legit. Then ask if we had other forms of ID, my wife and I take out our debit, credit, student ID and I showed my EMT ID.At this point, the show started and we’re getting annoyed that they are being this thorough about it even after cooperating. Finally, they asked us if we would fill out a form before purchasing drinks.I said No. Took our IDs and left for the show. This pretty much ruined our night and experience of this place.
A beautiful venue. However, they have quite a few areas with obstructed views. Four of us went to see the Sopranos, and a montage was displayed on the screen, and we were unable to view the photos clearly. We were NOT advised of the obstruction when we purchased the tickets. It was VERY disappointing, to say the least.
Nice small venue with good sight lines and decent sound. Outside smoking area is a plus.
Nice venue and easily accessible, but the different tiers are all one height and not set like a movie theater. If youre in the back of your section, anyone slightly taller than you will block your view of the stage. And the people seated in front of you will likewise jockey their heads to see. Always book the front of the section if you want to see the stage.
Good sound system for concerts. Difficult to view stage due to the slight grade angle of floor and seats. Seats are like being in a sardine can. I am 56 tall and 160lbs and seating was way to tight, rubbing elbows with neighbors. Drinks most expensive. $14 for a shot of Bourbon.
Not a bad seat in the whole place, the accostics were fantastic.
Been there twice. My seats were great! There is a bar and a place for sodas and munchies.
The music itself was good. The venue was horrible and floor staff was borderline incompetent. Why even bother having seating if you cant see! The weasely little floor guy wouldnt do anything about the 7 plus idiot standing in front of 20 people so they couldnt see! $100 + for tickets and you cant even see the concert.
Great location and fun spot to see shows.
Very well run. Set up for a good view from any spot in the hall. Seats available in the balcony for those who cant or dont want to stand for the night. Could actually get my wife to go to a s how there!
If we had wanted to stand the entire 2.5 hrs to watch the show, I would have bought GA tickets instead. Ushers/staff did nothing to communicate or itervene in seated areas to help keep people seated--especially important first row areas in mezz and balcony.
Beautiful venue and air conditioned!
Lot of standing room and easy to get around. 🤟
The venue’s layout is very cool, with an elevated pit area and a balcony above, the venue offers lots of seating and GA tickets. The venue is also located right next to Yale, so it’s a very well maintained/clean area. The staff did a great job getting people right into the venue when doors opened. Security did a good job catching crowd surfers and helping anyone who needed assistance. Overall my experience at College Street was really good, I would definitely go back to see another band at this venue.
Nice venue. Cool food options and bar. Saw Anthony Jeselnik here. Only complaint is close together the seats are, at least in the back balcony lol.
Comfortable venue. Small, parking is off site. Not too far away. Had a great time watching a comedy show.
Nice small theater near great restaurants and good parking. Had clean bathrooms and the bars were fairly priced and lines were short and quick. Acoustics were pretty good and the seating comfortable. 4.5 stars
The section balcony front 204 has a obstruction as you can see in the photo which is all good if I was told before I purchased the tickets this was my first event there which I enjoyed Tiffany Haddish and her opening acts was great but a lil more info before purchasing tickets about that area wouldve been greatly appreciated
Fun experience. Great performers and staff
I really like this venue. It is well maintained and clean. Seating tickets available. The location is great, parking options is convenient. The staff is great and the security guys do their job correctly. Perfect quality of the sound. Highly recommended!
Came to see Marcus King Used the parking garage across the street. $10 event parking wuper easy to get out.Venue was good, but for crowded shows they overflow into the stairways and security doesnt clear it. Worth checking out a show here thpugh, good venue, good sound, good bands.
Great location! Went to a Streetlight Manifesto concert and everything was well run and sounded great! I liked that there was an upper level with seating and that the bottom level was tiered and able to be set up for standing. Was a great concert.
Bad venue. Staff was either careless, rude or very rude to patrons. Layout was confusing and the staff did not accommodate for helping patrons navigate their way. Security and ID checks were in a poor order and merely enforced. The sound quality / Volume of performances were also lacking. Overall would not want to return to this venue which has an opportune location for a good time out.
Really solid venue for a show. Located right in the mix of a bustling college town.Sound is good from most spots in the venue. Easy to get to refreshments when necessary. Pit near the stage is ample or if you want to stay out of the fray choose one of the many open tiers to enjoy from. Sitelines are good from pretty much everywhere.Bathrooms are generally well maintained and far above average for a concert venue.Highly recommend it for pretty much any style of music. Enjoy!!!
Fantastic venue, friendly staff ... one of the best concert experiences ive had. im going to keep an eye out and hopefully see as many shows here as possible.
They bring great artists and performers from all over to the heart of New Haven
We went for Mike Birbiglia on Friday. The venue was the perfect size. We really enjoyed the show! Everything was clean and the bathroom was nice and big. Warning- beers are stadium prices. We paid $23 for two drinks draft beers where know the prices of those drinks. Other than that. It was great!
One of my favorite local venues to see a show.
Please figure out your sound. For such a prolific venue, the sound in the general admission area right in front of the stage is absolutely horrendous. Actually, for any venue it’s horrendous. I’ve been there 4 times now, each time, within the first 3 rows of people, and the sound is very muffled, you can’t hear any vocals or define any instrumentals. I think the problem is the speakers being so high and also basically behind /directly overhead you if you’re right up at the front. It’s just ridiculous that such a legendary music venue hasn’t addressed this issue as it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even want to go see shows here, but still do because I don’t want to miss my favorite bands. Please please please address the issue. Management must be aware of this. Aside from that, the venue is beautiful, staff are top notch, and I find that the way the concessions are set up to be extremely convenient and I never find myself waiting very long (and can watch the show on the tvs).
The hall is really a nice venue. The beers are pricey but thats expected. The bathrooms are nicely sized for you to get in/out without missing much of the show. Staff was polite but 3 layers of security seemed a little much. Parking right across the street and restaurants very close by made the show even better
Great venue for a concert, you are right there as it is a small venue but it has a great vibe inside. If your band is up tempo styled get general admission ok n floor ticket, no seating SRO. If they show is a bit cilled out get balcony reserved seating upstairs. You will enjoy your show either way.
Great sound, excellent bar service. The food truck in the lobby was great
Ive had the opportunity to see a number of shoes here and the venue always delivers. They have great service, a staff to support, and I feel safe at the shows. The lineups are great and varied, allowing me to come back again and again.
This place has some awesome vibes. Huge stage with really nice architectural accents everywhere with a lot of character. However, the acoustics seemed a little quiet maybe it was just the microphone settings. The venue also let in people over an hour early and let them file into the stage area which is super nice since other venues make you flounder on the sidewalk outside for an eternity. So, nice place for a concert.
College Street Music Hall is a medium sized venue. The floor doesnt have permanent seats. They either leave it open for some concerts or put high quality folding chairs up for others. I said on the floor in the folding chairs, very comfortable. The sound was good as well.
Also a good time here, such a lovely venue
Great show. Nice facility. Balcony seats are tight width wise, knees touching seat in front. Railing obstructed the view a little.
The patio could be better. Maybe add some chairs or somewhere to sit. Im 30 yrs old and have an out of state ID, the guy had to call his supervisor and make me wait. That was a little extra considering Im 9 years above the legal age and I look it. Besides that, the set up isnt too bad.
Great place for a show. Have seen multiple concerts and comedy shows here. Security good but not over the top, great acoustics and atmosphere. Reasonably priced bar drinks. New Haven is becoming a great city for good music.
The show put together by Carl Palmer and Emerson and Lake families and their team is beyond outstanding!!! The two guitarist are exceptional. We’ve seen ELP five times in our life. This six was amazing tribute and Carl is still the most spectacular drummer ever. Thank You💕💕💕💕forever
Perfect size of venue, plenty of parking nearby.
Love the old theaters. Went to 1 show here. There are 3 levels. They are about a foot higher than the level below you. Problem is, all the seats on your level are flat. No incline!
I love this place. I’ve seen many, many shows here and every time the experience is top notch. Sound is great. Venue is always clean. Drinks are always tasty. They usually have Geronimo’s in the lobby selling delicious tacos. Their lineup is always amazing. I always look forward to seeing shows here.
I was blown away by this venue! Tucked in the hot nightlife district of downtown New Haven, the modest facade of the building holds a surprisingly massive concert hall complete with a huge stage, pit, orchestra and balcony seating, and bars. The drinks are reasonably priced and poured proper (theres a pretty sizable selection of craft beers too) and the bartenders are friendly and fun. Security is a little tight coming in, though this is New Haven, and given the size of the hall, I felt the security was reasonable in exchange for safety. Im sure each experience varies based on which show you see, but when I went, the crowd was upbeat and respectful and the sound and lighting were amazing! (Check out the sound and lighting rigs before the show starts – very impressive!) Overall, Id love to see another show here. Coolest larger music venue in the New Haven area!
Always a great experience! I definitely prefer when all the seating is in place at my age as it was at the Steve Vai concert tonight. Staff is great, sound and view are good everywhere in the venue.
Great lighting and atmosphere. Staff were able to quickly process a large line of people waiting to get in. Handicap accessible facilities available. Good beer and drink options. Unrelated was the performance of the show I saw which was great. However the seats did not suit my fat butt. They became uncomfortable after a half hour. Additionally people kept getting out of their seats and the seating arrangement did not allow for them to cross in front of me without me getting out of my seat.
Great music Venue! Trombone Shorty was my first show. Very comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. General admission was great. Music wasnt blaring at you from front row, and sounded great throughout the venue. I used to see shows here when it was the Palace Theater years ago and they did a Great job of renovating to transform into a modern music Hall. Hope they get more shows I like here. Cant wait to go back!
Coat check ushers bar security were all effective and efficient
Beautiful venue, excellent sound. Great beverage selection, theres a taco truck inside, and a smoking section outside for the puffers. We had an excellent time!
At most venues seats are auditorium style so that everyone can see but at this venue they have half a dozen flat sections tiered, with about 8 rows in each section, so if youre not in the 1st row you will mostly be leaning back and forth, trying to see through the gaps in people. The stage is also set really low so that if youre in the 5th row you can only see the chest and head of the performer. The staff were really nice it was just impossible to see anything other than the back of peoples heads.
Ive seen 7 concerts here, most of them awesome including 2 of the best shows in my life, and the venue definitely contributed. The GA section is tiered, meaning you can get essentially front-row views even if youre short or late to the concert, and its very easy to move around during the show if you need to stop at the bar or bathrooms. Since people spread out on the tiers, its also possible to get right up front even arriving late to big-name bands. Stage-row speakers are well-placed, the youll go deaf if you happen to be standing here area is pretty small. Sound quality has been great (ESPECIALLY compared to the other established venue in downtown New Haven), with the exception of one show, leading me to believe it was probably the techs fault rather than the venues. The place feels clean and well-ventilated, not cramped at all. Decoration is minimal, though its charming that theyve preserved the original dragon motifs from the old theater. I havent sat on the balcony, but friends say it has a great view and sound is decent even high up. Security is efficient at getting people in the doors, and though the coat check is a little pricey, they manage the long lines well at the end of the show. Beer selection is refreshingly large and totally worth it, cocktails are variable, though food and drink are as expensive as youd expect for a concert venue. Speaking of prices, tickets are deceptively cheap, watch out for fees when purchasing tickets online - ticketfly plus the venue fee tacks on $7+ to any given ticket.Since CSMH opened, way more nationally touring bands have been stopping in New Haven, and it is only getting better. Its about time New Haven got a world-class concert venue like this!
Amazing beer selection, $9-11/ pint. Seating however is not great. It is all chairs on flat sections. So unless you are in the front of your section or the tallest person in the place visibility is really bad. Also no arm rests an narrow seats so you will be touching the person next to you.
This is a really amazing venue for live music. Its the only place Ive ever seen that has what I would call stadium seating where the general admission area has levels so if you are not in the front you can still see the stage. The acoustics are phenomenal and it is big enough to fit a good crowd but small enough to feel intimate with the band.
Really dope venue in New Haven, CT. Love the layout walking to the stage. The venue feels vast but yet intimate all at the same time. WARNING-PET PEEVE: The bar keeps the water bottle cap when you order a water bottle. Can a person get turnt AND stay hydrated throughout the night without going to the bar a thousand times?!?
Nice venue, comfortable seating, good sound. Large bar on lower level, two smaller ones on the upper level. Not quite 5/5 because purchasing tickets for the venue is annoying. Tickets for the venue are purchased through Ticketfly. It doesnt allow you to purchase individual seats you want, but forces you to select best available. What you consider good seats and what the system considers good seats do not always line up so trying to get seats you want can be a pain. I wish they would use a different system.
Cool little venue that occasional brings in some big names. Most tickets will be GA floor tickets, but they do have a balcony with some assigned seating. Beers and drinks will cost anywhere from 8-15 bucks.
Nice venue, we had a great view for Marcus King and really enjoyed the show. Parking was close by and staff was friendly.
This venue was super nice. Very comfortable. Bartenders were great! Bathrooms were also very clean (but I did go earlier on in the night so you knowwwww). There is also insomnia cookies nextdoor and a parking garage across the street which is wicked convinient.
I cant express enough how blessed I am to have this place 30 minutes away from me. Its that perfect sized venue for bands that are too big for Toads maybe but cant really fill the Oakdale. And there are a lot of quality bands in that space. Weve seen 10 to 15 shows here and sat just about everywhere. Sound is always on point, drinks are reasonable, bathrooms are clean, parking is easy and the staff is friendly. Pretty close to a perfect venue in my book.
Great sound, great bar, clean bathrooms and overall area. No stage diving (stage is also very high up) and I havent seen any slam dancing or the like. Seated events are tight but to be expected. Back rows have very limited views for shorter people- keep that in mind!
With its unique size and layout, this concert venue is large enough to fit a crowd, but small enough for bands to still connect with audiences. The open, tiered main level is great for getting up close and moving with the beat. An upper level with seating allows for a less crowded and more relaxed time. The bar usually has good beer options, and local favorite Geronimo has a taco stand in the lobby which offers basic yet phenomenal food.
Came here to see Miguel in concert. Awesome venue for the size. Not too small and not too large either. Had Loge seats which were one level up from the general admission floor seats. The view was perfect from that spot. Would recommend loge seats for any show unless you like standing in GA.
The seats are very small and cramped. The staff will allow you to find a new one if you ask, but youre out of luck if the show is sold out. Theyre all the same size anyway.
Saw the Cult here; really nice looking venue. The seating is tight but gives a good view of the stage so you still feel close to the performance. Sound was also in the comfort zone (at least where I was sitting in the first level of balcony seats), loud enough for the rock show experience but not such that you cant hear for two days after. Also a plus is a link to a close parking garage with quite low rates for booking in advance and a taco stand in the venue for a tasty pre show meal.
Solid music venue in the mid size. The floor is sometimes reserved seating, and sometimes general admission standing - depends on the act. There is a bar at the back of the floor and another at the back of the balcony - great beer selection, and some wine and liquor. Parking is available in Crown St. Garage 50 feet up the block. Mixed crowd includes lots of Yale students, and is generally very enthusiastic and polite.
Seating a bit too close. Had a guy literally sitting on my boyfriends lap.
Nice size place not too cramped! Great atmosphere all different cultures and walks of life enjoyed the live music performances. I went with a friend from Seymour arrived on time and had a great front row view. Will attend again soon.
This theater is awesome! Great seating, great sound quality and its pocketed nice and cozy downtown new haven in the midst of restaurants and stores. Great bathrooms and an upper balcony.I go here for Voc church services on Sunday and its always a pleasure.
Great Music venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Superior sound system. Bar was ran very efficiently
Nice small venue for seeing bands/shows. Easily accessable in relation to hotels, restaurants..etc. Ive been there multiple times in the last few years and never had a bad show. The only complaint is the crowd cant sit down and watch the show. Most are college kids more interested in drinking which is fine but when your view is constantly blocked/getting up/down it gets annoying.
This is a great venue for watching live music. The shows are consistently great, and the sound quality and layout are truly superb. The alcohol is far overpriced though - a sea hag was $9 before tip. Try to gauge your pre drinking accordingly to save a few bucks.
Staff were friendly even when under a lot of stress
I love College St. My wife and I go to a lot of shows and weve been all over the tri-state area. This continues to be one of our favorite venues. Its in a great location, the layout is such that you can get right to the front without an issue, and they always have a decent beer selection. Only problem can be parking but its New Haven so thats expected.
Great medium size venue. Sound is good, bar and bathrooms are easily accessible and clean. Parking is so-so, but what city venue isnt? Theres a parking garage across the street or on-street parking in the area, if you can snag a spot. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby for before or after your show.
Hands down the best venue to see a show in the area! Tickets are usually reasonably priced, the beer selection is great, and most importantly the acoustics are spectacular. Parking is easy and the artists they are bringing in are stellar. We have seen many bands, including Jason Isbell, Dawes, Brandi Carlile, Deer Tick, Willie Nelson and many others at the venue and all were fantastic shows. Keep up the good work, College Street! Love it.
Really nicely done renovation of the old Palace. Craft brew prices were not to obscene for a venue. at $7-$9 a beer. Toads definitely has some competition to be worried about. The GA setup has an open tiered setup. Lower level is close the the stage and the second level put you eye level with the stage. A great setup as everyone overall has a good view of the performance. This place reminds me of the Capitol Theater in Port Chester just slightly smaller
Great live music venue in downtown New Haven. Formerly the Palace Theater. Not restored, as the interior was mostly gutted and redone with new amenities. Downstairs is usually general admission with tiered standing areas and some first-come, first-served seating in rear. Upstairs loge and balcony have reserved seating. Security staff is top-notch.
Went to see the late show of a comedian. The line was disorganised with little differentiation between will call and have tickets. We had to put our phones on pouches which is totally fine, but seemed to delay the process of entering and exiting the theater to make it so the doors werent even open before the time the show was supposed to start. Once inside, the ushers were friendly. The venue doesnt have a bad seat, and it was a great place to see a show. Make sure you are there with time to be in line though!
Great venue. Not a bad seat in the house, although the security guards up front need to chill a little bit, they were very distracting during the Less Than Jake show. Drinks were pretty weak. Pit area too small. Other than that, pretty cool place...
Not great for GA shows or shows with participation. Balcony seats do not get you in GA. Very weird set up. Music was good but the venue was not a fit for the shows I saw there.
Went to a concert there. Small venue, but great. Parking is a bit hard to find, as streets fill up quickly in evenings in downtown New Haven. Bar available inside, but get your food and eat it before you come as they dont allow you to bring anything in.
Really nice place for shows, LOTS of space and nice atmosphere. But the mixing absolutely SUCKS. Ive seen the Growlers in 2017 and The Black Lips a month ago. Both times I could hardly hear the singers, it was very drowned out. Terrible mixing.
Ive seen three shows at this venue, and I really like it. It is clean and new inside, there are no bad seats, and the concessions are really well stocked. Parking kind of sucks, but its downtown New Haven so…
Too cold....elevator music too loud...bouncer broad outside way too exude. Its NH not Detroit! Get over herself. Staff inside were very nice!!!
It is a big music hall, even the stage is massive
Venue not bad to see music. I would prefer more standing room but that might not always be good, depends on the music. Staff at the food/drink stands was fast and friendly. Sound system was not tuned for people standing in the area in front of the stage. We had to speak to the sound engineer several times. They finally got it right for the last 1/3 of the show. Shame really as those are the best seats in the house.
Venue is a small older music hall which is great cause you always get closer to the bands. Very similar to the palladium in Worcester Massachusetts. I would go again with a decent lineup happening.
Excellent time front to back. The sound was incredible. Sold out show and every single time I encountered an employee I was greeted with a smile. Ill remember it forever. Thank you for the memories.Cant wait to come back!
The place is just the right size to see an artist. When its an open floor, general admission you should arrive early to stake your ground. When the seats are set in, be prepared to stand and enjoy your show, as the rows are poorly pitched and so the taller folks in front of you can obstruct your view periodically. The acoustics are good, and depending on the show, the volume is well monitored. Parking can be tricky if there is a show across the street at the Shubert. When you park on the street, meters are live until 9 pm, so be aware of that or youll be ticketed.
I thoroughly enjoy this venue. Not the easiest to walk in and out of, but thats not a deal breaker. They attract good performing artists, have a good beer menu, clean bathrooms, and a mighty fine taco stand. What more do I need?
Its a really nice venue. Not too big or small and near many restaurants. Theres no reentry so you can eat before or after. Also with your drinking band you get a free margarita at Geronimos around he corner!
The acoustics are great but dont expect to see the stage. The orchestra seating isnt tiered and youre stuck trying to see around the folks in front of you. If you go be sure to get mezzanine seats where theyre tiered properly.
The sound is so good here. Go just for the acoustics and you wont be disappointed. I saw Shakey Graves and Sunn 0))) here recently and both were just great. Loud, but not so loud that you were unable to hear definition and shape. Beer selection was good, obviously expensive, but you are at a live music venue, do you expect anything less?
Seems like an ok place on surface, but weird rules. They took my daughters water bottle because they sell water which is shady, but they wouldnt let her keep the cap on her water because ???The seats are super small. My tickets were all odd numbered so I figured the seating skipped one for Covid which would make up for tiny seats at least. Nope, theyre just skipping even numbers for some reason.I doubt Id want to come here again.
This place was okay for what it was in the price that I spent for the tickets. I went to go see Sean Lennon with my daughter who is a big John Lennon, Beatles, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon fan but she is also 14. There was also another child who was there to see the show and he was 10 years old and it was very difficult for his father and myself to have our children there at an all ages venue to see Sean Lennon. Majority of the crowd was drunk and high especially a gentleman who is trying to shove my daughter out of the small area she was standing in to be able to see Sean and that day. I recommend that if you come here regardless of whether its an all-ages event you should probably not bring anyone under the age of possibly 16 here.I think this would have been a lot more enjoyable had I come here just me and my fiance and left my daughter at home. It was a learning experience and maybe next time Ill get balcony seats and it might be easier for her to be able to see the show.Just because it says all ages doesnt mean this place is all ages friendly.
Beautiful venue, amazing friendly staff.
No reflection on the amazing artists I saw, but the staff, the venue, and the people attending all left a lot to be desired. First of all, I was given a pat down for security and they had me open my purse. I could have had anything in the bottom (it was never checked), but someone who was not the person checking (but who worked there) insisted I take out my two bags of chips for my husband and myself and get rid of them. We are disabled and had the worst day already, and would have had to pay a lot to get chips inside. They barely let me squeak in with my sealed water. I gave this venue no money for food at this point. Another staff member misdirected me to the complete wrong side of the venue for my seat. I had to ask 3 in total to get to my seat. Finally, leaving, I had a little water left in my water bottle, and they told me I wasnt allowed to leave the venue with it. I had enough of them at this point, let them know repeatedly as they kept trying to get me to leave it there that I brought it in. We didnt let them win this time. Whether I brought it in or not, how terrible is that to treat someone who maybe purchased something at your venue? The crowd left a lot to be desired with smelly drunk older dudes sitting, shouting and obstructing view in front of us. I think Id find somewhere else to see Rodrigo y Gabriela if they were in the area again. For the price, definitely BAD. Chairs werent even comfortable for any reasonable period of time.
Great acoustics, and sure lines, but the seats were narrow though
Regarding the recent Modest Mouse concert on August 9th, the sound quality was muffled and hard to understand. Feedback was also present during the opening bands performance. Additionally, the website never mentioned an opening band to perform before Modest Mouse. I feel as though I wasted 2 hours of my time, waiting for the main event. My date and I left early due to these issues. I do not plan on visiting this establishment in the future.Security was also more of a hindrance to the overall experience and unknowledgable of the facility layout.
