ALWAYS have an amazing time here. Not super sure why reviews say its discriminate to women. Im gay but somewhat straight looking and have always been acknowledged by staff and treated well. As far as other guests, nobody is ever in control of that but have never had a bad experience. Love this place for its amazing diversity and have so many wonderful memories!
They are open until 4am however stop serving alcohol at 2am and still charge $10 per person to get I after even though you can only order water or red bull. They should be transparent about that prior to taking your money to be in a club atmosphere and drink water. They hold the line pretending like it’s busy inside but it’s really not.
This place is great if Latino, white, or a straight woman. If you’re black, go with white or Latino friends and only send them to the bar to get the drinks. The drag show was good- a 50/50 mix of 90’s/2000’s and Spanish music. The vibe was good but the bartenders here suck.
First off the bartender Ryan and the manager(can’t remember his name) were awesome! This review in no way reflects you.To the other bartender that thought he was empowered to be a Richard to my friends for ordering four different drinks and decided to make two the same way and got called out on it, you sir are a piece of work. You literally could have put me into major issues medically because being diabetic is no joke and making my drink with loads of carbs that I didn’t ask for and wouldn’t have even expected could have killed me. If it weren’t for me watching you pour them you would have served me a drink that would have wrecked my night and possible weekend, if not longer. Then to have the audacity to say go to another bar for our drinks when I let you know it was made wrong. I also work in the service industry and would never be like this to a customer. And no I’m not over here preaching the customer is always right! But when you order something you expect it to be what you ordered. If you don’t hear it correctly or forgot the four different drinks ask the customer to repeat it. Don’t sit there and make up something because you think the patron won’t notice. Do better!!And also thanks the manager for stepping in and addressing the situation where the woman puked on the main path in and out of the building. Sorry we had to dip so fast. We weren’t in the mood to walk around smelling like her vomit for another couple hours.Be safe and have fun!
We went for drag bingo, and had a lot of fun due to the prizes and the fact that the bar staff was so friendly! A lot of people orchestrating the bingo were amazing. The drinks weren’t great but considering it was happy hour and the fact that the staff was so amazing I can overlook that but the queens were not fun to interact with. There were two queens, Piper was definitely carrying it, Adriana was the other queen and even when I went on stage with them I was definitely giving them a lot to bounce off of and only Piper would manage to volley. I would definitely go back, I still had an overall great time due to the audience and bar staff but definitely not loving the entertainment.
This place is garbage. If you’re Transgender they don’t consider you to be a man so they make you pay the cover charge. People are already paying for overpriced food and drinks. If someone looks obviously FTM and not just trying to get in for free the least they could do is ACCEPT THEM AS A MAN. You’d think being part of the LGBT community they’d be the ones the most understanding but it’s sick to know there are hateful gay men that discriminate against their own community. 👎🏼Awful parking. Can’t even enjoy yourselves because it’s so packed when you’re trying to dance it is like sardines in a can. Restrooms are the smallest I’ve ever been inside and so the lines are ridiculously long.Used to love this place but after seeing how they made my friend pay a cover charge after not only his appearance was clear he was trans but he had a shirt stating he was and they basically told him no he was still a woman so pay…I won’t miss not coming back to this place so if you’re a FTM transgender don’t even bother coming here. They WON’T make you feel welcome so spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
Such an awesome space full of fun, great people.I was traveling alone and decided to pop in for some fun. Charlie’s is a great place with cheap drinks and friendly, unpretentious people. Great drag shows too!Don’t forget to check out the huge back patio and DELICIOUS food truck. Definitely recommend this place for a fun night out on the town.
I don’t know how you can be a LGBT bar but discriminate against trans people. I’ve came in many times, and was identified as a MAN, as a trans man I identify as. The only time I shave my beard off they put me in the female line and then make it known I was not born cis.Idk , do better. MY ID, is a legal male name, and I obviously thankfully pass well until apparently I shave and I get moved to the girls line. Thanks for the dysphoria Charlie’s.
Got kicked out of the mens room as a transgender man. Employee asked to see my ID. This place is not trans friendly, I will not be coming back. Also btw the womens room is digusting while the mens room is clean. I used both haha
Really good place to go to if you want tacos. Thrusday, Friday, and Saturday are the best days to go.
Its an awesome club but theres discrimination and racism from some bartenders especially who are looking like brothers towards short guys and look different. They ignored me intentionally every time when they are serving people. Thats horrible and bad reputation for the club.
The night of May 5th Cinco de Mayo there was a fight that was going on outside and the bouncer and the ones who charge women at the entrance were egging on the fight. I was thinking how unprofessional and gross it is that they had to put their 2 cents. Charlie’s bouncers have been getting worse and worse and really need to be trained on how to deescalate things going on outside the establishment. It starts making this place on what once was a fun and safe place to a ghetto club where the bouncers get involved with fights. The food is great as always.
FunHalloween PartyFood truck - food. Open Thursday-Sunday 7pm?Quesadilla con carne is great, so good I went back a second time and Gramz came along!! The tacos were delicious. Picnic table eating😎.Recommend the food AND the experience.Tacos are really tasty.Service is great. Prices are super reasonable!! Enjoy. 😋
At Charlies Phoenix, the music is loud, The dance floor is packed, and the crowd is quite proud with their outfits so fine, As they dance in a line To the beat that has them feeling quite endowed. Here the drag queens are sashaying with grace, their heels clicking in perfect pace, wigs so tall, They enthrall, The crowd as they show off their face. The drinks flow like a river, so bright, With colors that sparkle and shine so right, As the patrons all cheer, For another round here, As they party and dance through the night. As the clock strikes two and the night is near done, The patrons all plan for the next day, fun, Some will rest and recover, While others will discover, New adventures under the Phoenix sun.
Had Claudia B as a bartender!!The WORST personality and rudest person I have ever come across. Not a choice to attract new and recurring Customers! This girl has a major attitude!!!! And shes nothing special!! Although she may think she is!!!! Ha!!
Had a fun time with some visitors. They were only here for a Monday night so this place was a lot more chill than usual. But they seem to always have some cool/fun thing going on.
I came here with a few good friends while visiting town, and I had never been here before. I havent been back to Tempe in 3 years, after spending 5 years here getting my masters. I usually have so much fun at gay bars. I love every other gay bar Ive been to. I didnt expect to end up in tears by the time I left, despite only having two drinks beforehand. Before we even decided to come to the bar, I was aware that women are charged a cover at the door. I thought it was a cool change of pace, and I was all for it. Ready to pay $10 to get into a gay bar and hangout with my gay friends. Im excited.I was going to order a round of drinks for me and a couple of my friends, so I went up to the bar. The bartender took a very long time to ask me what I wanted. I was standing at the bar for a while, there was a balloon in front of me, so I started poking it. I was bored. The bartender finally made eye contact with me, paused to allow me to tell him what I want, and I asked for the drinks. Immediately, he said, I dont think I should serve you right now. I saw you playing with the balloon. I have no idea what that means. I told him, I was bored. I have ADHD because I do. I was peeved, a little upset, knowing that I didnt do anything wrong or disturb anyone. I get that my presence there is disturbing, but come on, I should be able to have a good time with my friends. I turned around and told my friends what happened, and they gladly supported me in not ordering from that area and moving on to another one. Everyone agreed that bartender did not deserve any tips.We moved to another area of the bar, and I was starting to feel better after the unfortunate encounter Id just had. My friends walked up to this other bar, ordered their drinks, received them, and paid for them. I walked up to the exact same location, and the bartender paused and said, The end of the line is back there, and pointed towards the back of the giant crowd in the area. Right after all my friends just got their drinks. I have no idea why I was treated so poorly. I was not there to pester anyone, I sent and received positive vibes to and from every other person in the crowd. I enjoyed the music; I was there to dance. I had been having a great time before speaking to the employees. I did not deserve to be treated the way I was. I turned away from the bar, and I couldnt help but let tears stream down my face. I told my friends what happened exactly, and we all came to the same conclusion: we dont want to purchase any more drinks. We left right after that.I have never experienced discrimination like this in my life, and I will never come here again. I would advise women to stay away. Men, if you like that type of vibe, the kind that excludes nice people who are simply trying to exist amongst friends/have a good time, then more power to you. Ill never support this establishment again. Coming here felt like moisturizing with sandpaper.
Nice space for Sunday Funday...gets busy late afternoon/early evening. Back outdoor space is cool.
This place is not inclusive it treats women differently. bar back/guy collecting glasses patrol the restrooms and tell women what restrooms to use; however transgender women can use which ever bathroom. Make it make sense. Do better !!! It’s never that serious. Stand for something fully or just be confused and fraudulent!!
I stopped because I had a ten hour layover and I didn’t want to spend it masked up in the airport. Great Teo for one drinks, nice bartenders and friendly community. At 10:30, the bingo went away and the Gogos came out, and the bartenders were in sexy lingerie. Definitely great stop through, tho the locals told me I should come back for tacos and Sunday night. (Apparently they are only on certain days, the tacos).
******PLEASE SHARE TO SPREAD AWARENESS ABOUT SAFETY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING !!!!! **** MY COMMENTS ARE BEING DELETED BY Charlies Phoenix!!!!!! THIS IS THE LARGEST GAY BAR IN AZ !!!!!Thursday Nights at Charlie’s are known for their 2-4-1 drink specials, with this being said it gets very packed/busy. There was no security, bouncer, police, nothing. They only do this on the weekend. MY SAFETY WAS IN DANGER AT THIS BAR MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT . I was first approached by a man who was telling me how beautiful I am, and he was being very sweet. I assumed he was gay, so I was taking all his compliments. By the way, I was waiting in line with my friends at the bathroom when he randomly approached us. Suddenly all of the compliments turned dark, and creepy. He told me that he bets “I’m good in bed” and to stick out my tongue. I immediately told him I felt uncomfortable and walked away. This man kept trying to yell and get my attention all night, but I saw him approach a different group of women doing the same thing, trying to get them to dance and take them home. My friend that is in drag has just told me after this happened, that active human traffickers come to this bar and that I need to be careful. So I was already on edge all night . (This is a gay bar owned by men, where mostly gay men go, so why is this man even approaching random women and trying to pull the same scheme with them all?) THIS ISNT EVEN THE WORST PART!!!My friends and I were celebrating my birthday, so we had multiple drinks. I was trying to enjoy myself, but already felt like I was being watched by the first man. My friends wanted to go to the dance floor, so we did. There was hardly anyone dancing but us, 6 women. As I was dancing with my girlfriend, I look up and see a man BLATANTLY exposing himself/ pleasuring himself while staring at my friends and I !!!!! I have never reacted so fast! I WAS INFURIATED! He was so scared once he saw me yelling and approaching him , he said “I’m leaving, I’m leaving!” I only had the chance to shove him out the entire way out the club, until he ran out the door! THIS MAN GOT AWAY!!!! AND CHARLIES DID NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!! ZERO SAFETY FOR THE LGBT COMMUNITY, ZERO SAFETY FOR WOMEN!!!!!! I WILL NEVER BE COMING BACK TO THIS BAR !!!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND STAY WITH FRIENDS WHEN YOU ARE OUT ! ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS .Charlie’s is worldwide in Mexico, Denver, Chicago, and LAS VEGAS!!!! The fact that they do not care about women’s safety or hire a bouncer on one of their nights where they have these drink deals is MIND BLOWING. THEY DIDNT DO A DAMN THING !!!!!!!
Been coming here for years and it’s always a great time! The drag shows and the blackout bingo is always my favorite. Sunday fundays are always a great time here too. Don’t get me started on the staff. The bartenders are always a vibe. Pancho is one of my favorites ! Always has a smile on and always happy to see me. 10/10 highly recommend 🫶🏼
Too many rules but Im sure some idiot at some point ruined it for everyone. Fun LGBTQ+ (spelling?) dancing on a weekend and theyre the biggest so yeah
Went in on a quiet night with a friend. It was average but kinda dead when we went in. Looked to be quite large though so I can imagine it’s fun when busy. Had some personality but hard to say cause it wasn’t hopping. Only had a beer and left.
Hector was above and beyond extremely welcoming. Great service and a awesome time. Will be my only bar in Phoenix I go to!!!!!
First time customer who will be back. Really fun vibe even for a quiet Monday afternoon. All the staff were attentive and friendly and were happy to tell me about the various events hosted at Charlie’s. I’ve heard nothing but good thing about the tacos and will definitely be back to get my hands on them.
Wouldn’t recommend going at all if you are not male or male presenting - always have to pay a cover charge (totally fine but on slow nights?), wait for bathroom is 15-30 mins for women, and getting a drink can take anywhere from 5-15 mins. Totally understand because it’s a primarily male gay bar but I thought I would at least not have to spend 20 mins in the line for the bathroom or 10 mins for a drink - if you’re female or female presenting, set aside 30 - 45 mins for getting a round of drinks and using the bathroom.
Love this place especially when their taco truck is open! Been coming here with my friends for years and have met so many great people here. The 2 for one drinks on Tuesdays are great and the party they throw for Halloween is unbeatable.
Amazing place to go for a fun night out. Only downside is some workers have a bit of an attitude. But maybe they just are a just sassy in general. But 97% of the workers are super friendly and such a fun time! The events they host are awesome and the drag shows will make anyones night more fun! I really do love going there. Only downside to the pool tables is that you have to leave your id at the bar and try not to forget its there.. But great time mostly amazing service and a lot of fun all around. Plus the taco place located in the back is so yummy!!! Definitely recommend at least trying it out. To each their own but i had fun :)
Even before i walked in I was profiled and discriminated. Listen. I’m not a lesbian (definitely experimented to make sure, but I’m not and that’s okay…I’m open minded and not sheltered) I support every sexuality.. cause I’m a human being and I got yelled at for not being a lesbian, meanwhile straight solo creepy men were there to prey on any girl with intense disrespect … Unwelcoming vibes and division. What was all y’all’s fighting for anyways? Wack. And very disappointing. Should be ashamed.
Not sure how everyone is okay with a gay bar making a profit off of discrimination by gender. Only a very certain kind of person is welcome here. If you present as anything outside of their box, expect to have a bad time. Stay safe out there
Charlie’s isn’t the same anymore 🍅🍅🍅 I remember when I went on my 23rd birthday and we had so much fun but the past three times I’ve been here it’s been terrible and boring! The vibe is way off! And the drinks are over priced and not good
I dont know why this is such a popular place in Phoenix. Its a dump. Bartenders act like theyre doing you a favor when they wait on you, the clientele arent particularly attractive, female patrons are basically ignored and in some instances Ive seen charged a cover when males are not. The decor belongs in a trailer park. Other gay centric establishments in the area invest in their properties.
Weve been coming here throughout the years and it needs some major improvements. Long story short, the music, and speakers need a big upgrade. The speakers are piercing, and the music is always the same hispanic party music and thats coming from a Spaniard. The events are fun though and the drinks are nothing special.
Bartenders are really friendly and the performers are really good. Only bad thing is that they are not a good venue to host big drag names or drag events. Cameras are in bad angles and space is very limited to enjoy the shows. They can take alot of notes from Roscoes in Chicago!
Everyone is amazing at Charlie’s! I want to give a special shout out to Panchito,he is very friendly, serving great drinks and with a big smile all the time! Thank you for everything you do!Always working hard😇
4/21/22: Look, I understand you have regulars that youre gonna engage in conversation with, but its ridiculous when youre neglecting other patrons. Came here during happy hour, didnt even know because the bartender was insanely cold towards me. Very short with answers. I complimented the bar, they were still standoffish. This was the bartender that worked during happy hour around 3-4pm. They went to the back for like 10 mins leaving the entire bar unattended, and then proceeded to talk to other people and be on their phone for another 5. They finally showed some kindness after I had to show a bit of attitude towards them for their unfriendliness. They made smart remarks after they asked about where I worked, I told them I dont wanna say where I work since I dont know them. Oh, you cant say where you work? So top secret said with an attitude. Are you serious?? I dont appreciate the tone, I dont appreciate the service, its not cool. Yall need to check this bartender ASAP because he could give the wrong person this same treatment and all of this couldve been a different scenario. Crazy, I saw great reviews of excellent customer service here, which put my anxiety at ease before coming. On some real s*, check THIS bartender and re-up them on their customer service and hospitality skills. Ill come back when that bartender isnt working.
The staff is really rude all of the time!!! I always get dogged at every time I try to get an over-priced drink!!! I feel very unwelcomed. The atmosphere always makes me feel very uncomfortable!!! The area is pretty bad too!!! Find a better gay bar. I promise; youll thank me later!!!
As a traveler, I love this place. Their events, and what they do for our community. Thanks guys.
Don’t go if you’re a woman, lesbian or not. They’re fine protecting people assaulting each other here but are happy to kick women out for no reason even after they paid. Won’t question men that were also present, discriminatory. So sad to see a place that use to be considered a safe space for the LGBT+ community turn into yet another place for men only.
Gay or Straight, this place is one of the friendliest bars in Phoenix. Everyone, including the bartenders, waiters, the guy that checks your ID at the door, are all super-friendly! As are the patrons. Its the type of bar you can go by yourself and still feel comfortable! They dont play a lot of country music these days, but what they do play is good dance music!
Decent place but I think they should increase the cover charge for straight girls. I was minding my own business watching the drag show when this horde of Karens pushed me to the side because they wanted my spot, I even overheard them making homophobic remarks regarding the drag performers. I know some on here are complaining about the $10 cover charge for women but this is a gay bar and gay people shouldn’t be treated like an exhibit for straight Karens. You should increase the cover charge for straight women to $25-30 instead of $10. Obviously the exception should be with lesbian and trans women but I am just sick and tired of all the straight tourist karens that come here to gawk at LGBT folks just trying to exist in our own spaces.
So much fun dancing and watching the show! The atmosphere is so laid back and ppl are welcoming without judgement. Shout out to Omar, the bartender- he served best drinks and was an overall good guy! It was really a fun night! Btw, get there early because theres bound to be a wait line @ the door to get in and it is quite the long line!!
This is my absolute favorite bar in Phoenix. Every time I come in town I gotta stop for a few drinks and tacos from the truck. Yall made my night doing anime theme! Great people I ran into too.
Great place to go to, lots of fun! I enjoyed everything about this place. The drinks are good and not watered-down, so you really get your moneys worth. The taco food truck has delicious food, too! I will definitely go back with my friends!
I have never felt the need to leave a review on a business, but my friend and I were publicly shamed, and singled out last night while trying to enter Charlie’s nightclub/bar. My friend is from the United Emirates and has a slight language barrier. We both arrived and waited in a line to get in to this night club. It moved relatively fast. When we got up to the bouncer for him to check out ID, my friend went first and got his is checked, then I went second. While they were checking my ID, my friend accidentally dropped his wallet and he was called back by the bouncer. The bouncer told him he was no longer allowed to enter the club because he was too drunk. I never go anywhere, and genuinely just wanted to have a good night. The manager was also at the door and being very dismissive, didn’t even want to look at us for hear our side of the story. When we questioned the bouncer and the manager they just threatened to get the police and told me I was being argumentative which could not be further from the truth. The police men sided with the business but seemed confused as to why we were also not being allowed in. They recommended we go to karambas which we ended up doing and was welcomed in with open arms. They were so kind and welcoming and it finally felt good to be out again. I just want to reiterate, I am a very kind and humble person, and I was treated so poorly last night and it made me feel so awful to not be allowed entry. It is pride and our community needs to stick together. Times are so tough. Charlie’s did not care.
First time coming here tonight with a few family members. I had such a great time not only with watching the strippers but also the drag show. Every bartender that approached us were very polite and fast on getting our drinks ready for us. This place is big, it was kept clean at all times and the food there is delicious! Will be back soon!
Very fun bar/club. Nice friendly staff, Good music, cheap but very good tacos. Fun shows, lots of people
I had the worst experience with this bar, I traveled from out of state to Phoenix and I called ahead before traveling 45 min to this bar and asked if they have a cover charge and they said not before 7. We arrived at 6pm and then they proceeded to ask for a $20 charge. I spoke to one of the mangers Jason and he did not care one bit. He literally said the weather changed and now theyre charging. He didnt want to honor his word and made us feel like we were being unreasonable. I will never go back to this place or recommend it like I did on the past.
If you have not been to bingo night with piper mashay, please do yourself a favor. It was moreso a comedy hour (or two) with a little bingo. I had to politely remove myself and use the bathroom cause I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to wet myself. Unfortunately I don’t know whom the other drag was but she was a fill in for the night. This was a few months ago very beginning of feb. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at professional comedians as hard as I laughed at these two. I also had never seen my buddy laugh so hard either. We enjoyed the night so much we kept coming back just for that during our three week stay. I really felt like they needed to be recognized for it (that’s how fabulous the performance was) Well done girls and though I hope you go on to bigger and better things I also hope ur still there next winter.
Was very packed when we went (Saturday, which is to be expected) however! Everyone was very friendly, drinks are a little steep in price, but their mixed drinks are strong. The dance floor was packed, and we didn’t get a chance to see the patio area but it seemed very chill and relaxed. Will come again next time we’re in town!
Super friendly staff and locals made us feel very welcome while visiting from out-of-town. went twice during a week stay in Phoenix and will definitely go back! loved the drag show, pool table and karaoke
His place is honestly wack. From the cowboy hats to the treating females differently and charging them entry. To some of the staff being on a power trip and acting like they are of real authority. Dude in the picture got mad for whatever reason cuz someone was enjoying themselves on the go go box and i said he looked good and was better than the hired dancers. And he got mad/ intimidated and decided to have me kicked out the bar. Whole time he couldnt tell me what i did wrong, neither could the 3 other people he needed to get to interact with me cuz he was scary af. Mind you i was peaceful, causing no problems, and have video to prove that. Left peacefully after having to tell him to take his hands off me. I doubt anything will come of this review or feedback but itll deem itself relevant at some point in time Im sure, especially if this is the norm at this place.
This nightclub is great but too BIG to socialize. Love that there are different areas with different music but not a lot of fun as another club I went to. Love the people and their personalities ❤️
It’s a fun time and to be honest I would leave 5 starts but there’s this ONE really shady bartender and it’s hard to tell cause everyone has beards but he had a full beard and he’s one of the thicker taller bartenders who works Tuesday nights and he really kills the vibe every time I come, I try to avoid him because he up charges so much more than the other bartenders and is just really rude I wish I knew his name so I could tell y’all but overall they play good music and all of the other bartenders are really nice and make you want to be there it just that one bar tender that knocks it down like 3 whole stars for me
If I could leave 0 stars I would. Spent money, supported the drag stars, left my drink with my friends who were on the dance floor for less than 5 minutes. All full drinks were taken. Told the bar tender and he still charged me. Absolutely horrible customer service. Will not be coming back. So disappointed after working and being served by the same bartender. So sad…
Huge bar where the atmosphere is vibrant! When I say huge, I mean HUGE. The outdoor area is so beautiful and amazing. There are three bars outside, and a food truck. One giant rap around bar inside! Lots of seating outside. I wish there was seating by the stage as everyone is standing around. They have a lot of fun activities to do there. I played darts for hours one night! I wish they would take their shows up to BS Wests standards. I love seeing all of the employees running around checking on everyone in their matching outfits. It makes me feel safe. The parking lot is huge, and is kinda sketchy. Ive never had a problem though. Thirsty Thursdays are the best days to go.
The dancers and patrons are very nice, but the staff... This place isnt queer friendly. Its cis, binary and passing friendly. Gendered pricing based on what they decide you look like. A staff member also felt the need to harass me and my friend while we were waiting in line to pee because he decided we looked like we were in the wrong restroom. By the way, what year is it? Why even have gendered bathrooms lmao.
I didnt have a nice and respectable time there since I only made it to the door. It was my first time visiting this bar while visiting family in Phoenix. It was a weekend, not very busy type of night. I came into the bar, had my ID ready to go, the host asked how I was doing, and before I could reply he immediately instructed me to take my bag off to check. This happened very fast, and made me feel rushed. I told him after he gave my bag back that It wouldve been polite to have at least have the customer(me) answer his question. His co worker approached me immediately and told me to leave. I feel this was very inconsiderate and poor customer service. I was not an irate customer nor was I drunk. I politely and tactfully expressed my thoughts. I feel its important for businesses to provide good customer service to people. I believe these two guys should be more considerate and nice to their customers. Its awful and inconsiderate to ask someone how they are doing and then not even care for their response.
A great wonderful community lives here! A LGBTQ bar that genuinely is kind and sweet. The service rocks, drinks are affordable that are worth it, never watered down drinks. Getting ahold of some bartenders is difficult but recently noticed it is when it is busy. Its turning away from discriminating others and welcoming the whole community in. Great parties, music and food is amazing. The gogo boys know how to draw in the crowds. Bless the hearts of all LGBTQ. Staff also know how to be understanding and help the customersThank you Charlies Phoenix AZ
You know this place is fun and I have been to many of the Charlies establishments in the country and they are fun and entertaining however this location is one of the worst bars I have ever been to in my life. They tend to get their customers drunk and then drag them out or kick them out and have them in handcuffs with the off duty officers they have there. The management and security are extremely rude. The bartenders and barracks for the most part are super nice and friendly... CAUTION with getting drunk at this establishment because they will either have you thrown, handcuffed with the off duty cops or even as far as to call the police on you. AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT
Definitely my favorite gay bar or club atmosphere for nightlife. I love how its so varied when it comes to clientele and that because of the size of the establishment, theres always room to move to a different area and pretty much have a completely different experience from one area to another. I dont even know how many bars they have, but I know that its super convenient not having to walk far but definitely worth using the buddy system getting drinks on a busy night. huge patio always friendly staff, and amazing drink specials! Cant wait for next summer and the Sunday wet and wild parties again!
No longer care to go here. Most bartenders and dancers are snobby.. including the drags have nasty attitudes like they are royalty. Im still surprised people still go here. So many better places elsewhere to spend money.
I have really mixed feelings about this place because the dancers are very sweet and there are a lot of friendly staff and I had a great time the first time I went but honestly I would stay away if you’re non-binary or trans and not fully passing. I had a really uncomfortable time last night and ended up leaving in tears. First off they have gendered pay at the door which seems weird to me in a place that advertises itself as queer friendly. “Women” pay and men don’t, and by “women” I mean anyone who the doorman perceives to be a woman. I saw another reviewer saying they were told “at the end of the day you’re either male or female” and while I didn’t hear those specific words the idea was the same. Then later in the day I was in the mens bathroom which I’d used multiple times before with no problems (I’m non-binary and was already feeling very dysphoric after the front door situation) and one of the staff was in there like policing the place and telling anyone he thought looked like a woman to get out and go to the womens bathroom. I responded to tell him I wasn’t a woman and he legit pointed at the pay stamp on my hand like all the proof he needed was that the front door person also had determined I was a woman. I stood up for myself and said no and he walked away but it really crushed me inside.A gay bar is the one place where I don’t expect to deal with these types of situations. I think the staff should be less concerned with one or two actual women who might use the mens restroom to avoid a line and more concerned with creating a positive space for the lgbt+ community as a whole. How much do I have to pass to not be harassed here? I hear others have had similar experiences and that breaks my heart. I cried to my boyfriend on the way home and aggressively scrubbed that stupid pay stamp off my hand.I do want to say thank you to the sweet dancer who was so nice to us in the same bathroom and all the friendly patrons who kept the experience from being completely negative.
Id give them a 2.5 but thats not an option, so Ill settle for a 2 because I dont think they quite deserve a 3 or above, yet. Pros: Great dance floor energy, good drinks, nice outdoor setup and shows and the front door guy is usually always nice to me. Unfortunately once you get past this guy the staff inside are at best indifferent. They are not very friendly, in particular the bartenders. They need to improve their customer service and be friendly and upbeat to everyone, not just their friends and those they consider worthy of their respect. Then there is the huge bathroom that is sometimes gross and smelly and adjacent to the dancefloor. Do you really need such a large bathroom? Finally this is not the place to come alone to meet someone. Come with friends because everyone here is in a tight-knit clique. Dont expect to be approached by anyone.
Love it , its been there like over 20yrs , I think and its still awesome. In live in Scottsdale, so its not easy for me to go there, all the handsome employees are very polite, and smiling, the music is awesome, plus they had remodel. They even serve food in the big patio, they always have guest, I highly recommend it, its more than 5 stars :)seriously
The people running this place arent really good people. [EXCEPTION: The Mexican guy who works the taco stand most of the time. Hes a sweetheart.] My partner used to love it! He would be the one to ask me to join him to Charlies. At our most recent visit they kicked him out based on the words of an employee. They accused him of having minis [which they call shooters] on him, which he did not. I asked the guy performing the eviction to security check him for minis. I also asked if he was caught on camera? They wouldnt listen. The crew there must take each others words as sacred. That destroyed my guy. I will never return there either for breaking my guys heart who used to be Charlies biggest fan.Charlies will kick you out in a minute, and will not listen to any pleading or whatever. No, I wouldnt recommend an establishment who treats their customers this way.I work as a flight attendant... If I see any of Charlies staff on any of my flights, I will have the captain taxi us back to the gate to have them removed for the smallest infraction. I dont want to hear I am about to fasten my seatbelt right now. I wont listen. They will be removed. Period. We have that power as flight attendants and Ive only had to do this twice in 9 years. If they happen to make it inflight... Theyre getting cut off after ONE drink, because I feel as if theyre behaving as if theyve had too much to drink and I feel threatened. I also dont recommend that they cause a scene inflight lest I call for law enforcement once we land. What goes around comes around.
I’ve come here for the past six years most Thursdays and Friday’s and Saturday’s and Monday’s and Sundays and Wednesday’s and the occasional Tuesday. It’s pretty lit.Charlie’s puts a lot of effort into the experience; especially with special nights and events. Their bartenders know the right serving amounts and are always courteous, even when you’re falling into them while you walk out the door (totally from my viewing - never from experience). You can feel that when you walk in, you’re in for a good time. They also provide a very warm and inviting atmosphere; great tacos for when you need some energy and, of course, some of the hottest guys in Phoenix.
The bartenders that where inside the bar where rude to me and they where accusing me of touching other guys but I wasnt even inside!! The bartenders outside where very nice!! Though the bartenders inside had no problem grabbing my credit card when I was paying for the round of drinks!!
NOT A SAFE SPACE. This bar assumes peoples gender and charges female presenting people a cover fee. This presents problems when you just are assuming peoples gender and leads to instances of trans men and nonbinary individuals being mislabeled. Im from the Midwest and this just felt so backwards for a western city and exclusionary for the times we live in. Im visiting the town and my feminine identifying friend came to support my first Phoenix gay bar experience and I am a trans man. It felt uncomfortable the whole time. If you are not white, cis, gay, then they find a way to make you uncomfortable enough to leave.
Tell me why this bartender told me I need the cooler pointed at the bar so stop moving it. Hello! We are the paying customers and we are over this way on the patio. You are at work, the customers need the air to be comfortable and want to stay. You get paid to be here! Just rude bartenders but good shows and music! Not a bad place to be tho. Besides being bad at customer service. But a few cocktails in youd laugh at their attitude or you might be incline to thrown a glass (As Ive seen before) So plz do better gurlz!!
As a queer enby, this place is a complete miss. 2/10 stars… completely mid. The music was awful and they only played EDM with no rhythm or dance songs. Hated the country theme. A LOT of straight couples and cis het girls. Also very tailored towards the cis het man. cis female individuals have to pay a $7 cover fee but not cis masculine presenting individuals. I was also shocked they had gendered bathrooms. Awful experience and the worst gay bar I have gone to.
Jose is the beat bartender ever. Always smiling always giving a good service best drinks ever. Now on Fridays sinful tuds the best in town best strippers and the best boss ever sergio always smiling giving his best always. Thank God for charlies great club...
Mostly male gay, but pretty lesbian-friendly. The staff are generally friendly, experienced & protective. Theyre not tolerant of creepers or nonsense. Music-wise, early evening = country, late = pop, super late = electronic. Its a fun place to dance & meet new people. Also, theres an indoor/outdoor taco stand, so thats a win.Tip: its where everyone goes after everything else closes on the weekends. The after hours crowd is fun, but know that theyll only be serving soda after 2.
Used to love Charlies but over the past 5 years its gotten down hill. The staff has gotten worse and become really rude ( there some exceptions) this used to be an inclusive place but has turned into a real boys only club. Would recommend Sazeracs or Karambas before coming here.
Very affordable. Good 2-4-1 on Tuesdays/Thursday.
Great place to have fun and drink the night away! The Men of Charlies are all great Bartenders and Hosts I absolutely adore the management as well ! Most Holidays are celebrated here and they provide free food and other great festivities! An excellent place to be outgoing and make some friends or Just bring the whole gang to hang out ! Dont forget to dance your selves silly !
Most of the time I have a fun night at Charlie’s. That changed tonight when they disregarded my close friends gender (ftm). It’s not about the $7 entry fee, could care less, it’s the fact that there was an adult man standing there and was made to feel female. I get that some people may abuse the entry policy, claiming trans when they are not, however this situation was handled poorly and leaves a bad taste. This is supposed to be an lgbT bar.
This place is always packed and fun. The best part is the little window where the taco truck parks. Nothing better than a few drinks and delicious tacos!
Okay first lets talk about the positives. Their outdoor space is lovely, their drinks are cheap and strong, and they play good music. This would be my favorite spot in Phoenix. So Ive been to Charlies a lot and I assumed that everyone paid a cover and I recently found out that its just women who pay. The cover itself isnt the issue, I dont mind that. It just feels weird that a gay bar that is supposed to be friendly to ALL queer folks forces you into a gender binary the moment you step into the door. I asked the door person if someone who is nonbinary comes in, do they still have to pay a cover and this person looked me dead in the eyes and said yeah, because at the end of the day youre either male or female and I was in legit shock by that close minded response. Like what in the Fox & Friends is going on...Listen, Im a queer cis woman so I dont want to speak over or say something thats none of my business but I feel having this mindset and policy is just setting people up to be misgendered. This is supposed to be a safe space for ALL members of the LGBTQ+ community, not just cis gendered gay men. What happens if a trans man or woman comes in and the person at the door doesnt feel that they are passing enough and misgenders them? How is this creating a safe queer space for everyone?I hope they learn to do better and be inclusive because this really is a cool spot but this bigoted only two genders mindset is truly disgusting. Oh and P.S. be careful, I think they have Phx PD on retainer or something because there are always cops out front. Because having cops in queer spaces has historically ALWAYS worked out just fine.
Really liked this place for a long time and spent quite a bit of money there, but wont go again. Went there on a Thursday night and they had Big show with a drag queen. The line was like over 100 people and it started to rain. I went to the door to ask them if they could put more people checking ids because it was raining really hard. They had one person checking ids and one checking purses. They said no they wouldnt do that. They told me to go get back in line. I asked to speak to the manager and they told me come back during the day. I left and wont be back. Its too bad because used to be a really good spot. I suggest next time it is raining they move the id check outside. I bet it would move a lot faster. I dont tolerate crappy service and frankly didnt expect it from Charlies as their staff is usually bet professional.
I really like coming here, its my primary place amongst a couple others. I expect the staff to be knowledgeable about cocktails, and expect them to make the drinks that I request.1st I went to the outside bar and requested a Manhattan. That bartender had no idea what was in that cocktail, as I explained it to him. So then I went inside and requested the same drink, again they didnt know what was in that cocktail.2nd I requested a Cosmopolitan. I was told they didnt have the ingredients to make that cocktail, one of them being Whiskey! Like... what?! These 2 drinks are in the top 20 most popular drinks in America. Pretty disappointing, I dont get how you can be a bartender, and not know the 101s of cocktails. Why does a customer have to explain drinks? Ive gotten these at every other bar I went to. No problem!
My husband and I went with two of our friends for his BIRTHDAY. The atmosphere was fun and what not, when it came to the people that worked their and performed there , thats a different story. The two drag queens that performed were great, but because I love drag, makeup and what they do i wanted to go say hello and tell them what a good job they did. Well when I introduced myself, they acted like it was an inconvience and that they were better than me. They were really really rude. Theres no need to be rude when someone is trying to compliment you. Then when was trying to friend my friend that had too much to drink, I wanted to go outside to check on him. I was literally out of the club for 2 seconds. They guy at the door said ugh no you need to get in line just like everyone one else . Im like i was just in there so I have to get back in line?? I am discouraged about this place. Probably wont go again
If you enjoy a low end atmosphere and a dated bathroom with bad urinals / sinks / empty soap dispensers during a pandemic and shotty hand dryers … low standards then you have found the best gay bar for you . Employees don’t care and can’t do anything about it . There are other locations in Nevada / Colorado. The managers and owners don’t care bc it’s a chain . It’s so and bc it keeps the Arizona gay scene from progressing .
Very diverse and lively crowd. No shortage of people watching. Fun drag show and okay drinks. The snack vending machine ate my $5 bill and then changed it into nickels. No snacks, just nickels. I would have liked them to play recognizable music instead of loud house music that all sounds the same. Despite he large area outside to dance, everyone was sitting on bleachers because the music was literally impossible to dance to. Has potential, and Ill definitely go back.
Im a straight male and I love this bar. This bar is ALWAYS really fun to go to with my gay friends. It is SOOO much fun and the people there are almost always really cool! Once in a while Ill meet a stereotypical caddy gay person; which is really interesting. Besides your occasional rude person, this place is a 100% blast. I would recommend for anyone that wants to dance, drink, hang out, and smoke on the patio. 10/10 stars
Went last night, drag night was fun and live. But the service the is horrible if you’re not a guy. A bartender literally said we were irritating him (JONATHAN) Like what will not be turning sad because we didn’t feel welcomed at all.
Security guards are rude af. as a gay man Ive witnessed Charlies employees being unfair to women, not sure what this is about . but I hope this gets addressed soon. I will never recommend this bar to anyone until they start treating everyone equally. it really makes them a bunch of hypocrites since typically guys are discriminated against. yet they discriminate towards women.
Worst experience ever!!!!! I came Superbowl Sunday about 2:30 and I waited about 12:00 minutes and a guy in a Fitzgerald jersey saw me and went back to what he was doing ,and that was okay because Ive worked 20 years in Hospitality and I understand how it is if your the only one working, but all of a sudden some boys who did not look even close to 21 and didnt them being carded came in that he knew and dropped everything- , now other bartenders that came after him were professional and friendly, then I heard him complain about older patrons, older patrons are the one that made your business the last 20 years,
This is the place to be if you are from the area or just visiting. I had so much fun the last time I was here and I cannot wait to get back out there. Get out there, have some drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. Oh and dont forget to get some tacos!!!
Love this place! We’ve been twice so far since we moved here a couple weeks ago! HThe crowd is always fun and it’s always packed! Sometimes there’s a cover. What are the digital numbers that are on the walls in the club??
Very dirty bathroom (water or urine all over the floor) and most of the bartenders are feminine acting and have stuck up personalities (except maybe for 2). The music has become so bad (replace the DJ) and its a very loud and cliquish place. If you want to meet other guys this is not the place to go...... too loud to even visit. All the queens are in their little groups standing and modeling. Not many REAL men in this place. Also, there are too many drag queens. If I wanted to be with a woman I would be with a REAL women and not a guy playing dress up. 95% of gay guys arent even attracted to drag queens!!!
This place went downhill a long time ago. Mediocre music. Wont take requests. Some bartenders are rude as well as most clients. I try not to come here but first timers need to learn why its not as cool anymore
Been going to Charlie’s since 2011 but apparently tonight randomly I’m 86ed. Fix your management and staff!! Highly recommend KOLBALT BAR if you’re looking for a fun safe place!
Back in February of this year (2022), I was ignored for quite sometime by the bartender, who appeared to be a lighter skin hispanic. Despite some of my Pacific Islander heritage… My friends and I are all noticeably Asian looking. Suddenly, a white couple came up to the bar and immediately had their order taken. The whole time, I was leaning over the bar hoping to get their attention for what seemed like more than 5 minutes. After the white couple was taken cared of, I then attempted to raise my hand up. Immediately, the same bartender that ignored me stated, “oh, honey. That’s not going to get you help any faster!” I been to Charlie’s multiple times, and it feels as though there are some who have a prejudice against Asians in the gay community and in Phoenix in general. If you are gay and Asian, go to Karamba. Many hispanics not originally from the United States went crazy for me and my friends there. Charlie’s is always going to be a hit or miss, with more misses lately.
I used to love this place, thinking it was a fun inclusive spot for everyone. They have now upped the ladies cover charge to $10 and made other diverging steps to entice any women (lesbian or not) not to come back. Their ways worked I guess, I won’t be back
It’s a really cool and chill place, everyone was nice. but the bouncer was a b****. very rude to my friend that was drunk and not causing any problems, just stumbling.
Most of the people who work here walk around with a chip on their shoulder, its not a very friendly environment. Tonight, I walked through the entrance and a latino dude took my ID, barely took it as if I had some sort of disease, then handed back to me and said thanks, bye. I didnt take it as very welcoming. I like to come here because the music and bartenders are good.
Nice bar with good space, I stood in service line for over 10mins one person in front of me and the bartenders kept serving everyone else out of any particular order, when I finally got his attention I asked what is the point of playing by the rules and standing in line when u keep serving everyone else? His answer to me was if u don’t like my service u are out of my bar! When I asked to see a supervisor he said he was the person in charge and he escorted me to the exit. He told me his name was Evan or Ivan, extremely disappointed especially when come from out of town and u get this kind of treatment just for speaking up.
If I were able to use 0 stars I would. They are discriminatory twords trans women, my friend and I were kicked out for being trans. We literally just went to Charlies for tacos and they treated us like trash. I will never set foot anywhere near this establishment again and If youre trans I suggest you keep your distance as well.
Super friendly place. Very creative special events. We can dance n go wild ! Love the place! the building Is nice, sometimes it can look trashy from hardcore special events tells it all like dang, I missed it last night! :)
The bartenders are all sweet and the atmosphere is so fun. had a great time dancing and drinking all night! 🕺
How does this bar have a 3.7 rating? anyway, I went to this bar for the first time on memorial weekend and it was terrible. Just like the previous comment says, it is a very ghetto and sketchy atmosphere. The dance floor was creepy , and the place was filthy and run down. It reminded me of a tacky porn shop. Definitely not worth going to.
Be very weary if this place my daughter went there and her friends to stay away from men. One hour later after one drink she stumbled out not able to walk. I’ve heard other stores as well. She will be calling the police and anyone else with a similar experience. I will see you soon Charley’s
Went here on the Saturday before Halloween. Waited 30 minutes in line and paid a $5 cover. The music is inconsistent and mediocre. I expected better music from such a large gay club / bar, but could also be a bad dj. Drinks are cheap though not very strong. Not sure if Id go back again
Fun place, probably the largest gay bar in Phoenix. It’s too bad the bar tenders are super rude and will serve people out of order. I waited 20 minutes for a bartender to even look at me (probably because I’m a woman) and then proceeded to not even get me the correct drinks and barley looked at me again. I get this is a gay bar with mostly men but if they going to treat queer women this terribly I don’t want to be in this space.
The worst gay bar in Phoenix. Bartenders are always cocky, drinks are weak and over priced. Never have felt welcomed here by staff. Taco stand and outside bars dont open on time. Havent been here in months and come back and still disappointed.
Where do I begin! The staff members are all way to into themselves, management seriously needs retrain on Customer Service Skills. If your not a regular forget getting a drink on time or the right drink for that matter. Its like an under aged drinking party with newly out of the closest queens as your hosts. Dont even think about bringing your beautiful straight girlfriend, the Trananimals! will lose all control. The taco eatery is fabulous if you dont mind walking through some tacky waisted drunk screaming queens, urine smelly sidewalks and the occasional barfing stains. Bad, Tacky, Drama, Trash, your better than that, run! run! run the other way! Lol. It hurt to even give the one star EXCUSED!!
Security at the door…love your soul. Doorman (one who collects funds) I would say suck a D but you already do that. So eat the kitty. Most disrespectful BAMFIEMIML (message me if you want to know what the acronym stands for). Bought tacos from Charlie’s Food truck (literally right outside) but still wanted me to pay 7 to use the restroom and when I asked for napkins told me what have you done for Charlie’s Phoenix. B…I’ve came and ate at your food truck (right outside your club) numerous of times. Please don’t act like Charlie’s Phoenix is not getting a cut from Charlie’s food truck or any food truck they have outside their establishment. If I encounter this H again I might get arrested. 0 stars if I could.
Travel plans changed for a friend and I, so we accidentally ended up in Phoenix. Went out the first night to Charlies. Did not know what to expect but was greeted at the door with a warm welcome. Drinks were super cheap and we were amazed by the drag shows. The drag queen even pulled me and my friend on stage. Such a fun night
There isnt much variety for gay bars in Phoenix and Charlies is probably one of the better choices. The point of focus is the drink specials. Sundays from 4-7 they have 3-for-1 drinks and the bartenders know how to pour a good stiff drink. Thursdays they have 2-for-1 drinks. They also have cheap beer they serve in small pitchers. Probably at least 32 ounces usually around $3-$5. Fridays are the best nights to go in my opinion. This bar is probably the least pretentious gay bar worth going to in Phoenix. Dont expect luxury.
Personally, Ive never had a bad experience. From the dancefloor to the foam parties, Ive always had a blast. This is a gay bar in the heart of Phoenix so its not the cleanest place, but thats why I like it. Its not supposed to be perfect, its supposed to be fun.
I am originally from Budapest, Hungary. I lived there in Phoenix for three years where my new friends showed me this Bar. I spent most of my free time in Charlies. I met lots of great guys, cowboys who showed me how to line-dance and country dance. In addition, I had my first love there. These three years were one of my best time in US. I am planning to go back again.
The music is pretty decent, the crowd is clicky, and the staff is sexy, except I ALWAYS get over charged on the CC Slips. ALWAYS check the final amount with your bank. I went in for ONE beer and my CC said 16 bucks after the $30 authorization fell off.
Visited recently on a Friday night, go-go boys, a great crowd, fantastic staff, I would definitely recommend. This was a Friday night only thing, and definitely not the night for dancing, bring your ones, the music was loud/latin/off.
Katie made our night amazing, what a wonderful bar make sure to visit if you’re in split ‘l!
Used to be a nice country bar. Now its hip hop Latino night club. Lots of str8 women having bachelorette parties on stripper night. Also lots of str8 women all the time. The staff will only wait on you if thay think your hot or if thay know you. They pull tips so service sucks.
Ghetto fabulous and ultra inclusive. I got in free with my brother in law because he was deemed cute enough lol
“Charlie’s” Phoenix, ArizonaCover: FreeMusic: Pop, Dance, Hip-HopRatchet Level: LowThe outside caught me off guard. Not what I was expecting. Regardless this is my second Charlie’s. I’ve been to the Denver location plenty of times and will be at the Vegas location soon. I was passing through on a roadtrip and stopped here on a weekday. It was “Drag Queen Bingo” with some event afterwards. If you’ve been to a Charlie’s before then you know the aesthetic. Wood interior with a western/cowboy vibe. The bartenders were nice, drinks were alright, drag queens hosting were great, and overall everything was normal. The crowd was diverse. Some were really into the bingo which was entertaining and others were just chilling. The bathroom was huge! What I did like was one of the host speaking Spanish to translate the bingo to the audience. I wish we had more opportunities like that, but it all depends on the demographic. After bingo was over we stick around for a little bit just chilling and talking. I would love to come on a weekend to see the full potential. The outside area looks like it would be a lot of fun. This was a cute night for a Tuesday.
Charlies used to be my go to place. It has become a latin bar (nothing wrong with that). After the expansion several years ago, there are 9 AC units. John King (owner) refuses to use them as he believes people will drink more when they are hot. Personally, I wont pay to be uncomfortable. I have seen the office with all the thermostats. Most were set above 80 except the units around the main bar.
Staff and bartenders are nice. Always making sure if youre having a good time. Never been to a bar before so this was an interesting experience.
Super bad customer service the manager was disrespectful he was rude and kicked me and my friends out of the place just because my friend confronted him for acting like that. Instead of handling things a different day he was still acting rude and telling us to leave the place. Also Was charged 25 dollars in my card for 2, dos x’s. We come all the way from Las Cruces New Mexico and just wanted to have a good time and visiting this place was disappointing, will never step foot in this place ever again and I do not recommend it.
The best gay bar in the country the staff is like family the drinks are strong yet good and extremely cheap and the daily drag events are always a blast
I drive lyft here, and am a longtime fan of the taco truck, tacqueria los yaquis, and have a few friends that frequent this place, and it is the premier gay bar in phoenix. Reputation is big, strong drinks, great fun atmosphere, and friendly staff. Not to mention, the best street tacos in the city
Pick and choose your battles right?! Its a dirty place BUT the drinks are cheap. The AC either doesnt work or doesnt exist BUT the boys strip from the heat. The cliques are beyond ridiculous BUT the best roach coach in town is out front. Lets be honest...after the cheap drinks and youre wasted, who cares about the rest right?!
I have been here twice since moving close by. This place was hyped up to me as the BEST TACO! but BEST does not mean authentic. No Bueno for vegetarians, but they do have some insanely tastey cheese sauce on their nachos...
This is a latino bar now, for the most part... not a bad thing, just not really a country/levi bar like in days past. Service is great actually... bar is just in need of a major, major makeover... even NuTowne is ten times nicer these days. Just a quick makeover and more events besides drag shows and this could be the center of the community again!
This is NOT your usual Charlies. If you want hip hop dance music instead of country then youre fine. Spent 2 minutes in this hole and had to leave. The most country it got was a couple of the staff wearing cowboy hats.
I really dont hang out a this club but the food is good,my only problem with the taqueria is the meat for the carne asada is really greasy and the beans had no flavor and they werent smashed like refried beans should be!But I guess if I was drunk I would have loved it,but I dont drink!
Can I just say that I love this place. The bartenders here are amazingaf and the music is everything. I come here a lot with my friends and we get turnt up to the point where at times, we’d get kicked out. Also, you’ll find your baby daddy here. There’s cock everywhere! xoxo
Sunday funday afternoon go-go boys, pitcher of beer specials, good mixed drinks. Great music. Nice crowd. Large outside patio and bar areas.
It is always a great and super dupa time here. The staff is friendly and know how to have fun with the patrons. I really enjoy coming on any day of the week because there is something happening every night.
Great entertainment! Somethings up with the drinks tho, I had 2 and didnt feel anything. Prices went up quite a bit too.
An amazing atmosphere with great people. Absolutely love the Saturday night shows hosted by Claudia B. The bartenders are all incredible and management ensures patrons are safe
Went to have fun but the staff was a bit RUDE and drink wasnt strong it was watered down drag show was odd i think charlies and other gay bars in arizona need to do like Cali does drag queens there have to really sing not lipsing it makes for better shows.
Don’t forget your tacos and please grab an Uber. Classic mainstay of phx and always worth a stop in any night of the week. Long live the back bar patio.
The food was 👌. I lost p11 my keys in parking lot Friday night. I went back Saturday night and was told yes they were found but the trash guy threw them away. Why would you throw some keys away trash guy that have Ford all over them ? Just wondering because it doesnt make sense to throw keys away you find in parking lot that is always crowded on weekend. Then guy told me to write number on piece of paper then I watched him rip it up and throw in trash. Thats cold.
The environment is great and the bartenders are nice. The music is cool. The tacos are bomb.🔥🔥🔥Need I say less.
Went just to be hassled by the staff the entire time. Was it because we were women or what? We were told our type wasn’t welcome there lol. I’m not even sure what that means as we went to this place before COVID almost 3 times a week. I don’t know what has changed.
All around terrible establishment. Bad business. Bouncers at the front should probably make it to the back to wash glasses. Much better establishments located within the area. Don’t hold your breathe with this one folks.
PEEPING TOMS!! Caught one of their staff members trying to look inside of stalls through the opening on the sides of the stall doors. Absolutely disgusting!! If you value your privacy, DO NOT go to this place! 🤮
Needs so many upgrades to the whole place
Great prices and friendly staff. Strongly recommend. Thanks Tim and staff for a great time. This Texan will surely be back to visit. Ready to find a husband lol, friendly staff is on my radar lol. No pretentious guys please 🤞
Gay bar super busy offers square dancing as well as a club atmosphere depending on the time of night most migraine from outher bar around midnight and stay to last call at 3am food at the Taquera food truck is good except lines at the food truck.
Offensive, rude and quite trashy over 90% of the time. The staff is bipolar and the lead drag queen is a racist. If it wasnt for the fabulous restaurant next door, and somewhat decent go-go boyz ...Id spend my coins elsewhere PERIOD!
The employees do not deal well with customers and are even rude. The truth is, they leave a lot to be desired. I do not recommend this place.
This seems like the main gay bar. Big dance floor and outdoor patio. Drinks are good price and strong. Nice people and funny drag shows
Party in the world of the LGBTQ+ community,
Your bartender Jase is the resident mixologist. He made me a perfect Tokyo tea with no 7 as requested. It was amazing. Keep up the good work.
This place has turned into a straight female bar.. to all the women out there, make sure you have your bachelorette party here. More bachelorette parties then the gays.
Liked it better in the 90s :-)
Obsessed….Always entertaining, great dance floor and events.Go to the restroom elsewhere before you go there though. Long waits and not the cleanest.
Packed and full of lots of life! Worth the drive. Drinks were decently priced, although for once as a woman I had to pay to get in!
Amazing Tuesday bingo night at Charlie’s! Great vibe and libations! Bingo prizes are amazing and the Bingo callers (Adrianna and Piper) are funny, sassy and keep the balls rollin!
Its a alright crowd the music is ok and the drink prices you cannot beat, if your into the charlies brand then you shouldnt be dissapointed but if you have been to better then it will be ok or you will not like it at all
The bar itself isnt bad and when I do get attention of bartenders they are not openly rude however it takes a good 10 to 20 minutes to catch attention. Possibly due to being a female but unsure.
Always fun at Charles but especially when Francisco is working. He is always smiling and friendly.
Ive been to Charlies on several occasions...I love the shows on Saturdays..But Wet Fridays take the cake! Drink specials always! Best place to be
Used to be the go-to gay bar, but the place is aging, along with the patrons, and straight girls everywhere. There are much better gay clubs in town.
The people are just totally awesome. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are very positive and friendly. I kove ro go there to meet new people
Good fun nice people and I love it. Im a old man but was a dancer at one time to, I can still dance my ass off and this place lets me feel young again.🙈🙉🙊😄.
Loud, lame, and not a whole lot of fun. I would only recommend this bar if you want to drink a lot, be unable to talk because the music is so loud, and wait in lines.
Charlies has been shelter and a place for LGBTQ to enjoy not that but it has been a stable for community to hangout and meet howvee recently the young never went to struggle who think they over client because Charlies historically influenc and statusThey can treat any client customer however they like ( I was told tonight that I cannot respond nor Have an opinion.. and when said are talk over me the boy manager said no you cant talk and I am kick you out(Nothis this bar is run by people who are very vey rude Especially if you are a female or Of African American heritage )So I left the bar voluntarily Yet that same manager called me maid talking to his friends our side in Spanish .Please let Charlies owner know how clients are treated ... with no respect
Charlies is an interesting place, but always a fun time. Music is good, the drags shows are a blast, and the taco truck Th-Sun is bomb af!
If you go to Charlies. NEVER pay with debit. Us cash and pay every transaction. They deny receiving 20 dollar bills and act like u paid with exact cash or under a 10 bill.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.
I have had a great time everytime I go. The bar, the music, dancing, food, the people and the events are a blast.
The staff is incredibly rude and stuck up. Wow. Drinks are good and the setup is cool but we will never come back because of how terrible the staff is.
Meh. I went there yesterday for the first time in 30 years. I could swear the same people were sitting on the same stools, drinking the same dollar long necks. I found it a bit sad.
BYOB—this place waters down their alcohol! Venue is cool, but the shadiness of overpriced, watered-down booze overshadows that. Never returning. EFF THAT.
The dance floor is big enough and this place has a lot of fun people and events to do. They also have excellent food!
Im not sure Im the biggest fan of Charlies Phoenix location but overall I would say that going with the right people DEFINITELY makes it easier to enjoy as well as creates quite the experience!
Atmosphere is Amazing ! Charlies is the best gay night club in phx hands down.
Great gay bar.
Its a terrible place. Went there on my 22nd birthdae and got awefull service. Drinks over priced for premix bs. Bartenders were rude nd musik needs help.
Not as fun as it used to be and the DJ tonight was horrible. Best part about the place is the food outside. The dancers looked ridiculous. Disappointed.
This place is always so much fun!!! Great atmosphere, bartenders are awesome, music is great! Love it.

One of my favorite places to visit during the weekend. Amazing atmosphere, nice outdoor patio area. You must visit and enjoy the fun.
I don’t even like men and I still had a blast. The cowboy bartenders were okay
Fun bar!
The staff really rude and racist. Micheal was my bartender and very rude guy. I ask him question and gave really rude answer. My first here and well never go back again.. Very bad place to go.
Bartender are really nice to people but the current manager ihg doesnt have matters to treat people he doesnt belong there
Ya we wait in line for drinks and bartenders allow people to cut and make other people wait longer manager chose to do nothing. Never go to this bar there all about there money and that’s it
