This space is absolutely amazing! Went for Drag Brunch on Sunday. Ordered a bottle of champagne 🥂 for self serve mimosas at the table as its the best deal! I had the breakfast sandwich that was absolutely delicious! The drag show was phenomenal and one of the best Ive seen in this city. So engaging with the crowd.During the quick 20-30min intermission the dj played. He hit all those favorite tracks and before long people took over the dance floor to dance and sing. Absolutely recommended you go to this coffee shop each day and night is different.
I’m a food blogger and had to come into Habitat Coffee Shop when I saw their cotton candy coffee on a friends page. I had no idea the food would be the best breakfast food I’ve ever had! I’ve been blogging for five years & been to over 300 restaurants for collabs in different states and countries. My friend who went with me, is also a travel blogger, and said the same thing about the food quality! I also loved the spaces decor and the different seating options from window sill seating, on the floor pillows to lounge on, regular tables, and couches. We got the cotton candy coffee, the s’mores frapp, avocado toast, bacon and ham sandwich, and salmon bruschetta. EVERYTHING WAS BEYOND DELICIOUS! The service was amazing and we had a great time! I HIGHLY recommend this place and I will be back to Utah just to eat here again.
Bartenders will aggressively press you for tips. Why you feel entitled to my money is beyond me, perhaps the next time it happens we’ll have a heart to heart discussion on life choices and the plethora of higher paying jobs out there in the world.Still not tipping.
Ive wanted to try Habitat for a while & it did not disappoint! Its such a cute eclectic place to eat. I didnt jump on the avocado toast wagon when it became a thing but after eating it here, WOW! Its freakin amazing!! I am a fan now. My husband & I also ordered the salmon bruschetta toast omg so delicious! The fruit salad & spring salad was to die for. The flavors & concoction of the food was amazing! Cherry on top was the waitress, wish I remembered her name but she was awesome & kind. Im definitely coming back here again. The entrance door was stuck so pull a little hard because we almost walked away thinking it was closed.
Go you wont regret it!! I cant say enough amazing things about this place. The atmosphere Amazing ❤ Food Amazing ❤ Staff so incredible, sweet and Amazing!! Brunch with the girls, hanging out with good friends. Amazing beer selection #localbeer ( Support your local business) and the food so fresh with so much flavor. If there is one place you should try this year, This is the place!! Thank you Austin! Your the best!!! Ask for Austin is hands down the best!! #Bestbrunch #amazinglocalbeer #brunch
This place isnt even last resort just go home. the bouncers are disgusting and will assault you if you even look at them the wrong way it gives a dark feeling even if youre outside the bar, they have a camera but its turned off because the bouncers are abusive & in the wrong so theres a low chance of them actually getting caught. they let underaged kids go in, manager is short white blonde lady and has proven she has no managing skills, they are the opposite of safety I would steer clear of this place if you want a fun safe night out.
Came in a big group of girls Friday night. The first thing we did was head to the bathroom to pee. I noticed there wasnt a hook on the door so I asked my girlfriend to hold my things for me. She came into the stall to hold my coat which apparently was a big mistake. A female employee started yelling at her to get out of the stall and she said Im just holding her coat for her, Im just helping her out and another male employee kept asking if I needed to be escorted out. I wasnt even drunk, I was just trying to pee and didnt want to set my stuff down on the nasty floor. I think the only person we WERENT harassed by was coat check guy. There were girls passing out on couches and puking all over the bathroom but they wanted to escort ME out? If theres a policy against two people in the same stall, just say that. The DJ also sucked. He changed songs every 10 seconds. Has potential but I wouldnt come here again.
Fun place if you just want a good night with music and good priced booze! Bartenders could be a little more friendly but there is no entry fee and the dj always plays great music! 👍
Slow kitchen service - came here vs food truck options to order the vegetables borsheta w fries and waited over an hour to get food and quality is questionable in the food was so salty almost inedible, luckily we could tap the fries to get off majority of salt off to eat.(see photo) Beer on tap is decent and what Shades is know for but the slow kitchen service detracted for any enjoyment when I saw other tables who arrived after we did getting food before my table. They dont wait tables so we had to order drinks and food from the counter/bar. But i did see some staff touching base with other tables around us. Bathroom cleaniness was marginal and they were out of toilet paper in all but one stall and not paper towels to dry hands after wahing. Not sure theres any enticement to come back here.
Shades a a great brewing company on its own no lie. However the phenomenal pairing of that caliber of a brewery paired with a unique kitchen offering such as brocheta is a must see in the down town SLC scene. This kitchen has a very unique style of food that Is unparalleled in the bar scene. Made with compassion and creativity and you have a number of top shelf beers to pair with their many offerings on the food menu.
New Coffeehouse in downtown SLC, so I had to stop by. The crew are very friendly and welcoming. Partnered with the Himalayan Kitchen next door, and all the better for it.I came expecting authentic Chai and I got it, sugar free and rich in a way that I havent often seen. The space is quite large; larger than I expected from looking up from downstairs. Less of a homey feeling than some other cafés, but I dont have a problem so long as its comfortable, and its very comfortable. No baked goods as of yet though the kitchen is in service; less subcontinental than I was expecting but thats not necessarily a problem in a city as blessed with good Indian and Pakistani cooking as Salt Lake is.Looking forward to their continued development.
So poorly managed and there wasn’t a women’s bathroom in sight. My friend and I were told to go here to get some bar crawl passes for St. Patrick’s Day that ended up being a scam and were told “can you give us like 20 more minutes?” when we showed up ON TIME. We were so poorly treated and the man who took our ID’s was so rude. Go somewhere else.
Valentines dinner at Shades. Advertised three course meal, appetizer, main, and dessert. Pictures show what was served, $35 a person. Not even close to what was advertised. Food quality was similar to a good high school cafeteria. Beer was solid.Service at the restaurant was non-existent. No waiter all night. Manager retrieved our food from the kitchen, which came cold. Self served drinks from the bar.Management way over their heads for this size restaurant. Start with a small cafe.
This review has been looooong overdue! THIS PLACE IS THE BEST PLACE DOWNTOWN in my opinion!!! I’ve been to a few establishments in the downtown atea and this one right here is my go to. Everyone here is outgoing and makes you feel like family when you are there kinda like that old school tv show “Cheers”….”Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name…and they’re always glad you came” lol…The music here is always 🔥🔥🔥, the drinks are 🔥🔥🔥 It’s sad to see some of the reviews about this establishment because it’s always the complete opposite experience that I have when I go. Not sure what the back stories are for the other reviews because there are always two sides to each story but if you can’t handle your drinks and are a sloppy drunk, just know there are consequences for that 😉 Anyway….THANKS again to the amazing staff that always goes above and beyond to make sure their customers are taken care of and having the best time when they’re there 💯
I would go lower than 2 stars but I had previously had a good experience here. When we came here for my birthday lunch today the woman who took our order said she didnt know what they had, which was a little annoying but that happens sometimes so it was fine. She ended up taking our order and it took quite a while for our drinks to come out. My cloud coffee had just a tiny cotton candy cloud and the coffee was room temperature so it couldnt melt it. When I brought it back to them they just microwaved the old coffee and I had to ask for fresh brewed. The second cotton candy wasnt really any bigger either. For the price I expected better.
This establishment takes the crown as the worst, most disgusting, and outright dangerous place I’ve ever given my patronage.Does anyone enjoy the smells of vomit, feces, and urine? What about many instances of severely inebriated minors spilling drinks on your clothes? Dancing is fun for many, but do you like when songs abruptly transition every 20 seconds? I, personally, really love having my bank account drained when attempting to order a vodka soda, don’t you? Does you mind touch the void when waiting in the numerous lines throughout the interior and exterior? Do the eyes of the (vape in hand and mouth) manager glare back in the darkness? What about the blood covered entryway, does that scare you? Was that threatening feeling; as if the bouncer was about to punch you while checking IDs just me? Did the bouncer, unprovoked, punch your friend too? Apparently, this is the only bar in salt lake where people aren’t allowed to ask why they are being denied entry, they’ll simply receive a concussion; given to them by none-other than the for-said bouncer; is this a place you would like to visit? Is it normal for a bar to encourage assault? Is it normal for a bar to lie to abused patrons? Is it okay for bouncers to grope and beat people who are trying to dance with their friends? Why do they laugh and accept anyone into this bar, regardless of age? Why do they employ known felons with violent records? Is it okay to have these people checking your friends, children, and loved-ones id’s?This review comes from many different experiences that have had while attempting to dance with friends at this bar. These aren’t unique or uncommon experiences. Ask your friends, your kids, anyone you know who has been to this bar: “did you enjoy your time at shades on state”? Their answers will disgust you. I’m shocked this place has over three stars. It simply should be shut down.Shades on state, please close your doors for good.Sincerely, Andrew
Disgusting! Kids getting way too drunk and disorderly and no one said anything nor stopped serving them drinks! …and they allow underage kids in. They don’t check the fake IDs well at all. Not a good place to be!
DON’T GO THERE! It’s the worst place ever, I went to another place and the power went down around 10:30, so I was trying to go somewhere else and have some fun, I walked all the way there and when I got there it was around 12:30 they screamed at me saying that they were already closing and that couldn’t go inside, my boyfriend was inside waiting for me with some friends, so I texted him and he was trying to come by the door to see if I was there and safe because I was alone. Once he got to the door guard guys that you can see on the picture by the door hit him and were trying to start a fight, they spilled all his drink all over him, it was so mean of them. At the end I couldn’t get inside at 12:30 to dance a little bit with my boyfriend when the closing hour they had on their website was 2am.
Found this place randomly one night while walking we have been here basically every weekend since😅 good music great vibes and Taylor is the best bartender for sure we love him!
Idk it was alright. We brought a friend for his 21st birthday as we were just bar hopping, the drinks were okay but didn’t seem to have much alcohol but at least tasted good. $10 I think for the special cocktail of the night (mind eraser) if you’re already slightly drunk it should be alright, so long as you enjoy blaring music, dark atmosphere, and the song changing every 45 seconds. If you’re just trying to party it’s aight.
I never write bad reviews, even when I probably should, but this is the worst bar to go to in all of Utah. They hire a bunch of degenerate junkies as bouncers, who almost always seem intoxicated on the job and are incredibly aggressive. I have witnessed one assault and have had friends get assaulted as well. One of which occurred a few nights ago. My friend was told he wasnt allowed inside after letting in all of his friends, and when he stepped forward in confusion as to why he wasnt allowed inside, he was sucker punched and knocked unconscious. He received a concussion and still looks like a bloody mess. I have also witnessed several underage drinkers getting hammered inside and showing off how bad their fake ID was. They primarily let in underage girls, and Ive witnessed the bouncers not even care to look at their IDs. Once, a bouncer told me my ID was the most real ID hed seen in the line, and I was dumbfounded that he would admit that hes practically purposeless. I am in awe that this place is still able to operate. They have a camera above the doorway, but it is never on, and I think its because they know they are breaking the law regularly. The drinks are overpriced, and the food is disgusting. The only good thing about this place is the unique couches they have everywhere, but the couches seem very used and gross. The manager is some blonde girl who hits her vape 20 times a minute and serves no purpose. Do not go to this establishment. I promise it is not worth the trouble.
I came in 11/24 at night. I never leave negative reviews because I believe in supporting local businesses, I am not sure which security guy we talked to. I should have grabbed his name, but he did NOTHING and said he had to see it for him to do something. The first two minutes we walked in my friend told this guy that she wasn’t interested and then he verbally assaulted us, started pushing us, calling us derogatory names and being really rude. When we told him to go away he grabbed my other friends hand and kissed it. I have never felt this way because security will usually handle a situation if someone isn’t being respectful. All of my girlies and I felt so unsafe that we left after being in there for a couple of minutes.I have been there a couple of times before and the music is really good. I think there is room for growth on how security should handle these type of situations.
Pretty vile establishment, would recommend going literally anywhere else. A group of my friends stopped by here on a night out and were already inside. As I was walking a few blocks to meet them there, they were already complaining to me about how hot and gross it was inside. I had to walk up to this crusty establishment alone and immediately felt unsafe before I could even get inside (which never happened.) Bouncers at the front door had awful vibes, denied me entry saying they werent letting anyone else in, but they let a huge group of people inside not even 5 seconds prior to telling me that? Oh, and then the bouncer thought it would be appropriate to ask the very young girl behind me in line if she wanted to have sex with him. Dont know how this place is allowed to operate and Im really glad they denied me entry, really dodged a bullet there. Also hilarious to read the owners petty and immature responses to every single bad review on here, avoiding any accountability whatsoever.
Terrible spot would give zero stars if I could. Always underage kids around. Super hot and sticky. The security is so rude and does not help at all when situations arise. Drinks are alright but not worth all the hassle of coming to this spot. Genuinely one of the worst bars in SLC. Cant wait for them to get shut down for all the underage kids they have coming here and their security being absolutely useless. Also if you are a woman beware of this bar, men might assault you and the security will do nothing about it as its happening and after you bring them into the situation, happened to our group Saturday 11/24 and the security guard was the guy by the top of the stairs/dance floor let the guy walk away without even talking to him and said there was no reason to help and told us to just let it go, literally useless and not a good look for making women feel safe and comfortable. The dj isnt half bad on some nights but the vibes are truly garbage. Either the bar needs a rebrand and needs to hire / fire people or it needs to be shut down, do better.
Not overly excited, food selection was 4 yes 4 items only. Our party had sliders which were cooked well and everyone enjoyed them- fries were so-so.Beer was ok bartender was very nice. Arrived 6:30 only people there by 8:30 about 6 more people were there. Looked run down lots if furniture had broken pieces. Carpet needs to be replaced, sticky bathroom floor ugh. Just not what I expected.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an unforgettable night at Shades Nightclub and Bar, and I must say, it truly exceeded all expectations! Located at the heart of the city, this establishment has everything you could possibly desire for a fantastic evening out. From the moment you step through its doors, youre transported to a world of vibrant energy and pulsating beats. Also I like the stuff member, they were really nice to me and they were very welcoming. There is a tall black security guy hes name was Mor or Mo I dont really remember, hes a very good guy and he make us feel safe.
Bartenders are very rude, they refuse to sell a drink 5 minutes before last call and when you question they go on a power trip and call security making a bigger deal then needed, no respect for customers, no AC (gets well over 90° inside with 2 mini fans for everyone) be ready to sweat, floors are extremely sticky and dirty, this had to be the worst/nasty experience at a club iv been to. If you want a hot, muggy, overpriced drink experience this is your place, wouldnt recommend to a single person. FYI spent over $200 for drinks and have spent more on other occasions yet no respect or concern for people bringing in buisness. Long story short find a different club
This place is so dirty and the floor is literally sticky. It’s an absolute mess, they got decent music tho ig.
I recently had the misfortune of encountering an extremely aggressive and rude bouncer at this local establishment. This individual, whose behavior was a hazard to both the customers and the community, displayed a complete lack of professionalism and control. From the moment I approached the entrance, I was met with hostility and condescension. The bouncer was shouting at customers, using excessive force to remove those who were not compliant with the rules, and generally creating a tense and dangerous environment. There are plenty of videos making their rounds through social media that will show this behavior since the owner refuses to take any form of accountability and instead puts the blame onto their customers. It was clear that this individual derived pleasure from exerting their power over others and showed no regard for the well-being of those around them. Their aggressive behavior only escalated as the night went on, leading to several physical altercations and an overall hostile atmosphere.I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, given the clear danger posed by this individual who is employed as a bouncer. It is unacceptable for a person in a position of authority to behave in such a manner and it is imperative that they be held accountable for their actions. Three males attempted to go in and the bouncer had told them to pay $40 to get in. Once they asked why seeing as their google business profile shows their hours of operations the bouncer then proceeded to get aggressive, because they were confused about the cover. ( See previous reviews from other individuals who have had, or witnessed a similar experience with this bouncer). In conclusion, I cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding this establishment and the bouncer in question, the owner refuses to take any form of accountability or show remorse to those which shows a huge part of their character. Their aggressive and rude behavior is not only a hazard to the community, but also a reflection of the lack of professionalism and respect that is all too common in the hospitality industry. I hope in the near future there are changes made as this place has a lot to offer, and has a lot of potential, but not if things continue to go this way.*See previous reviews from others to see the way the owner responds.*
This place is disgusting, I felt like the carpet was coming up with every step I took. The inside felt like it was around 85°F and the staff were consistently telling me where I (100% sober) could and couldn’t stand. There are WAY better places in SLC to go and with Non-aggressive staff.
I recently visited Shades bar and had a disappointing experience due to an over aggressive bouncer. This is not the first time that I have heard of such incidents at this bar. In fact, several previous reviews from other customers have also mentioned the same issue. It appears to be a recurring problem at Shades that the bouncer on duty has a tendency to become overly aggressive with customers. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and creates a hostile environment for patrons who are simply trying to enjoy a night out.During my visit, I witnessed the bouncer using excessive force and intimidation tactics on several patrons. This not only made for an uncomfortable experience but also left me feeling uneasy about my own safety.Other customers have also reported similar experiences with the bouncer at Shades, which leads me to believe that this is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed by the management. The continued presence of an over aggressive bouncer is causing customers to avoid visiting this bar, and thats a shame given that it could be a great place to have a good time.In conclusion, I would not recommend visiting Shades bar until this issue is resolved. An over aggressive bouncer is a major red flag and can have serious consequences for the safety of patrons. The management at Shades needs to take this matter seriously and ensure that all customers are able to have a positive and safe experience at their establishmentThe only good thing of the night I would recommend from shades is the steak fries they are really good and for $5 you can’t beat it!I understand that you have expressed your position regarding the recent incident that occurred at your establishment. However, as the owner of the bar, you have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons and staff. It is concerning to hear that you are not willing to take accountability for the actions of your staff. As the manager, it is your duty to ensure that all employees are trained and equipped to handle difficult situations in a professional manner. Furthermore, the presence of a police report suggests that there was indeed an incident and it is important that you take it seriously.Ignoring or denying the events that took place not only undermines the credibility of your business, but it also creates a potentially dangerous environment for your patrons. It is crucial that you investigate the matter and take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. In conclusion, I strongly urge you to take this matter seriously and demonstrate your commitment to providing a safe and responsible establishment
Hands down best coffee shop in Utah. I personally know the owners & Erick is by far the most genuine & nicest guy around. The food menu was really thought out by some amazing chefs & keeps on progressing, so not only do they have amazing coffees, but the food is phenomenal. I highly recommend the salmon bruschetta or avocado toast. The place is huge, with plenty of comfortable seating all around and beautiful scenic views of the city. I really enjoy this one of a kind atmosphere which is full of live plants, art and bohemian design. It’s really such a charm..✨ the perfect spot to study, have a meeting or simply just enjoy some quiet time with a warm cup of love.My new favorite downtown hangout spot 😍
Food was awful. Our nachos clearly came out of prepackaged items from Smiths (mission tortilla chips, pre-shredded cheese from a bag, flavorless salsa) the only fresh item on them was some sliced jalapenos. The steak skewers were cooked past well done, the flavor was actually decent but it took so long to chew it just wasnt worth eating. My husband tried to play it safe and got chicken tenders which had zero seasoning and were just topped with a bunch of honey, very strange. In stark contrast to the food, the beers were amazing. Our table tried 7 different beers and they were all so good. Its kind of an odd set up, but I think itd be fun if you came just for drinks and a casual hang. We still had a good time, we were just super disappointed in the food.
Absolutely awful and unsafe experience! Do not go here. My friend was randomly grabbed and kicked out after being screamed at by an aggressive bouncer for not getting out of the way fast enough??? Shades will be lucky if he decides not to sue for damages. And on top on that this bar is so so dirty, the floors are ridiculously sticky and it smells like a portapotty. Couldn’t recommend less.
This is the 6th time I’ve gone here and had a bad experience. Every single time I come here I get harassed and assaulted by men and the staff does nothing. The staff watches it every time yet nothing happens. It would be a fun place if I wasn’t getting harassed and grabbed every second but unfortunately that’s not the case. The horrific actions compels me to leave immediately every time.
Best Coffee Shop in Salt Lake City!!!I like that I can grab my coffee and just be walking distance from everything in downtown. The customer service is amazing, the food is not only delicious, but healthy! My friends and I enjoy the atmosphere this place provides. We like that there is plenty of comfortable seating options in a spacious environment. We also like that we can socialize and look out the window and see the busy downtown life (people watching is always fun).We are definitely going to be regulars!!!I highly recommend the avocado toast and iced caramel macchiato! You won’t be disappointed :)
The tap room is pretty cool. Great beers and pretty decent prices. The problem is that the music theyre playing on a Friday night at 10pm is awful. Im currently listening to off tune country music and a man who doesnt know how to play a harmonica and their wives are coming to my table and asking for tips. Because of this I honestly cant recommend this place as a meet up spot. Maybe its better on different days but dont even bother having live music if its this awful 🤮
First, the bad: The coffee is a tiny bit flat/milky compared to many coffee shops, but its still very good!Next, the good: the coffee is NOT overly sweet, which is something of a rarity! I could taste the espresso, it wasnt completely masked. The personality of this place great, and I felt it even getting it delivered! They hand drew fancy script and such on the cups, and encouraging notes on the tiny bags with small free sugary pastries. They also offered a more robust menu than most; they can prepare the different drinks in different ways!Very happy with my first experience here, and excited to see a new place spring up. Will definitely return!
This is the most creative coffee shop I have seen in a long time, it reminds me of trendy areas Ive been to in San Francisco but with a great class. The food is to die for, its very spacious and has a unique in design. They have this one cool coffee where it comes with a cotton candy cloud that all my friends love to try. Anyone can open a random coffee shop, but Habitat is more than that. From hosting private events, to birthdays, to wedding receptions and conferences. I love this place, right in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.
Omg!! What a wonderful day. The couches and decor make it feel up scale yet still cozy! The staff worked so hard and the performers were wonderful. We were here for an event but I’d love to come back for a simple coffee and brunch! It would also be the perfect spot for a reception or any intimate event! Our group will be back for sure!
This is what used to be a cool location . The couple who runs this place is running it into the ground and like them most of the city who hates them now despises their location. I have never had such horrible service and been treated so horrible by the ownership.Unfortunately this location is the total let down. They used to have good food and move that restaurant out. They used to throw incredible parties with great music and in incredible vibe period they decided to move that out in replace it with whatever they are doing right now . I dont know who is running this place but they are running it into the ground. Episodes the entertainment and the vibe changed and now they took out the restaurant and replaced it with garbage period its either time for them to sell what time for them to just go out of business. Dont waste your time here the service is horrible as well took almost an hour to get served.
I like this space. Good music and a nice place to hangout. That said....we went last night, a Saturday night, and they didnt have any beer! No beer on tap because they were out of CO2 and only a few selections of canned beer. It was a bummer for staff and customers alike.
Shades is definitely#1 on my list. The staff creates such a great atmosphere. Rees always puts a smile on my face with his happy self and Braxton is seriously one of the best bartenders out there
Absolutely love this place Rees is my absolute favorite so sweet and friendly his smile is very pleasing as well. All the staff is amazing and do a great job also Braxton is another amazing bartender love his service and his drinks are amazing!
First time here and boy howdy! The layout is killer, super spacious and brings me back to a time where you walk into a bar and not feel like a total outsider. AUSTIN was absolutely crushing it, working double time to make the grub and offer up delicious beer recommendations! 5/7 amazing pub
I had an awesome experience last night during a pub crawl. It was relaxing and a nice environment. Not to mention the Venezuelan food was bomb. I only tried the Fried Yucca Asada and it was good. Until I checked my card and they charged me twice when I only got one. I think they charged me for the girl behind me that ordered. Wth! The server needs to make sure they are authorizing the right card.
It’s interesting that an aggressive bouncer is a common occurrence and is denied every time by the owners responses..there is no way randoms go on google just for fun to leave one star reviews. It seems like the owners likes to take accountability in some of the comments but if it’s about the Aggressive bouncer then it is untrue… seems odd.
I was so excited for shades to open up a pub downtown. But I’ll be honest I was extremely disappointed. The pub does not have the same low-key, chill vibe as the tap room on West Temple. They are trying to be like a night club. Also the kitchen was a huge disappointment. The majority of the items on the menu were not available. I ended up getting a burger which was extremely undercooked. The taps weren’t working so you were only able to buy cans. And lastly, the staff didn’t really seem to have any idea what they were doing. Maybe it will improve in the next few weeks/months, but until then I’m sticking to the taproom.
Their new place rocks (366 S. State St.;above Himalayan Kitchen). No on-site parking so make extra time to park in the area. Street meters stop charging after 8 p.m. Nice and open with room to relax. Comfy couches and chairs to spread out. Still have an amazing selection of canned and draft beers. Now have in-house food for purchase from Churrasco Grill. Excellent food and pairs great with Shades brews.
The rudest guys at the front!! never have i ever had my id questioned and they took my id because they thought it was a fake. im about to be 23 and i had to call the police for them to give it back to me to not make it a bigger deal than it was. Train your people better. and before I get a passive aggressive response from the owner, I’m not sure how you want me to prove my age over google. Maybe you should ask the cops that had to come.
The photo shows what was advertised online, and what we paid for. What we received on our Valentine dinner didn’t come close. We even had to self-serve our dessert from a box, and it came in a plastic container. Classy. I’m giving three stars because the management was very apologetic and took a few minutes to talk to us and offer a myriad of excuses. Advice to the establishment: Don’t sell something you can’t deliver.UPDATE: I updated my review to 4 stars because I received an email apology via Eventbrite, and a refund. I appreciate a business that owns up to their shortcomings. Cheers.
We went to try this place a couple weeks ago and honestly... the place has a weird vibe, its like a food court/bar/night club. No one call your food order, no waitress and sometimes you have to share the table. The food was way too greasy and wet... the burguer was hard to eat and you get sauce/oil all over your hands.Honestly... nothing out of the normal and they need to improve their menu cause they do not even follow the culture from the cuisines, imagine going there for tacos and they guve you those without salsas.
Due to an unposted policy, they lost over $60 in business today. For my coffee loving brother’s birthday we arrived as a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Coming here is something that he has wanted to do for quite some time. Looking around they had fun little seating areas and only one other customer. We walked up to the counter only to be told that they do not serve children to keep a student friendly atmosphere. I have yet to find this policy posted anywhere. Now don’t get me wrong, a business is allowed to make the policies that they seem fit, but please post your no children policy somewhere that people can see.
This place is bad, I paid for a table, and I get choked out by the bouncers because their friends were there and wanted into my section. I am currently working with my lawyer to start a lawsuit against them. There was a camera near our section, and all the charges were on the same card. I’ll call in soon and see how the situation is handled.
Super disappointed. Went here for NYE on a pub crawl, there was only about 40 people here, rather empty. We sat at the bar and spent 20 mins trying to get any drinks ordered, once ordered it took another 10 for them to slowly trickle them to us . The DD ordered a coke and waters, 3 times from one bar tender and 2 times from the other two, it never came and she had to go stand in front of the register and ask over and over before she got it (took nearly 30 mins). We left and came back just before midnight, place was still dead (supposedly the end stop for the big countdown event). Still took too long to get drinks with 3 bartenders and less than 10 people at the bar, and we missed the count down (which was almost missed by the DJ) because the bar tender was too busy doing nothing than getting champagne out for it. We tried to close our tab and it took just as long...we closed our tab without a tip to put in cash but before we could the bartender came over with the print receipt and slammed it on the counter and yelled at the DD for not leaving a tip. The DD asked to see the receipt to check the drinks had been tallied right, but the bartender started hitting the counter yelling about how how she deserved a tip and that her service needed a tip and how she didnt make anything hourly then she looked at the entire group and told everyone they were cut off and to leave, she walked around the bar, then came back and started yelling at us again about not giving her a tip. This tantrum of yelling and fist pounding the bar went on for a few minutes, eventually another group member took her aside to calm her down or it may have never ended. Ridiculous childish behavior. Absolutely poor service. And really pathetic NYE event overall. Huge dud.
Beware there is a $10 per person cover at this location. The brewery in the other location does not do beer samplers.Update - At the other location we were looking to have a draft tasting. We were denied as well as 5 other people who were also looking to do a beer flight. We saw the downtown location was closed on Google maps and the bartender assured us it was actually open and hours were incorrect and pushed us to leave and go downtown. We were at the brewery at 7:10pm so not sure why she pushed us and 5 others out.
Attended a private event here and the food options looked great, but were not available. The entire place had a really cool vibe and I look forward to visiting again. Definitely not accessible for people with mobility issues.
Just wanted to let you guys know. We will not let customers out for free when you sign on the tickets for over by towne storage whatsoever. You do not Parker agreement with my any of my managers when I asked. So please no more signing the tickets until you are Parker agreement with us. Thanks Im one of the booth attendees there at the booth
This hidden gem can be hard to find but once discovered it’s the ideal local coffee shop! Love the aesthetic, great spot for students to do homework or to get work done while sipping on some quality prepared beverages. The business owners are the best and have put on some really fun events here too
Relatively high prices not justified by quality of food and service, and availability of draft beersHonestly I am disappointed in this place. Most of the beers I ordered from the draft section of the menu were either not available at all or only available in can. A beer costs $6.5 which is 20%ish higher than the normal SLC brewery/pub price of $5/5.5. Service was mediocre and slow, especially for food - I got a burger that took almost an hour to arrive. Moreover, I asked the burger medium rare and it was definitely served well done. But that is understandable when you serve such a small patty, it is hard to make it medium rare. That burger was basically all bun. I did not send it back just because I did not want to risk another interminable wait.
Went with some friends last night and one of the security called me the B word for no reason, i was dancing and he goes “move bitch” i was in shock and i asked like excuse me? and he said to “shut the f up” i didn’t get his name but he was wearing a yellow beanie 👎🏼 i didn’t even do anything. SO rude for no reason.
Love the couches and chairs, theyre super comfy. They had them before when shades was a coffee place
The avocado toast is absolutely deliciousReally enjoyed the instrumental music, wasnt loud it was perfect for me to read my book while enjoying breakfast while sipping black eye coffee. This place is a vibe. I do recommend stopping by this coffee shop, its unique in a special way.
Visited today with our friends for the first time, we were so excited since we love Shades and had been following their Instagram. They had been posting good looking food and drinks, which is the opposite of what we got. We come in to find out they had an event tonight so they only had 3 menu items available, this would have been great info to have posted on their website or Instagram to avoid wasting our time. Since we were already there, we ordered their empanaditas. They brag about authentic cuisine but was we got were bitter, obviously frozen, appetizers. We won’t be returning.
This was the place to be during pride! They had pool and beer pong, music, dancing, and fresh brews! The sliders were yummy too! Will be going back
THE coffee shop destination downtown!Habitat Coffee just opened a couple of weeks ago and I am already in LOVE. For starters, the space is huge, with the cutest Bohemian-style decor. There are so many different fun areas to hang out with friends, get work done, or just relax and read! The vibe is awesome, and they even have a cute little area in a far corner that gets decorated differently every couple of weeks. Now lets talk about the coffee. Their coffee is very high quality and strong. They have a cloud coffee with cotton candy which is very unique. I love their mocha, but my favorite drink is definitely the chai tea. I tried both iced and hot, and the iced chai is a big winner.Besides tea and coffee, they have also have small plates. Their salmon brushetta is sooooo delicious, I could eat several plates of those! Their avocado toast and spring salad are also wonderful. So much detail goes into presentation and they use fresh, high quality ingredients for everything. In case you are wondering, Habitat is closed on the weekends because they host events in their gorgeous space.Highly recommend checking out Habitat, this place is a must go!!
Erick and his staff provide nothing short of impeccable customer service—not to mention the coffee’s arguably among the best the city has to offer. Love the atmosphere—warm and inclusive. I highly recommend giving Habitat a try!
Great place. I come here a lot and have a great time every time! Weekends are super fun
This place is unmatched on every level- from the food and coffee (you could close your eyes and throw a dart at the menu and you’d still love whatever comes out), environment (awesome place to work in a cool upscale space), to the drag brunch (speaks for itself)!? It’s a no brainer why all of slc just became regulars. Definitely a staple if you’re traveling to northern UT as well.
Everything they do is top tier. The parties have great DJs and good energy. The food quality 5 star quality. The coffee is especially notable since SLC doesn’t have that many top shelf coffee shops.
The floor is sticky, but you can play beer pong and there is a dance floor. A lesson in why carpet does not belong near alcohol.
I love this place, but its way too loud now. Its difficult to talk to people even far away from the dance floor. Everyone I met here says the same. Really wish you guys would turn it down a couple notches
Great service at the bar; regular downtown bar prices. The atmosphere was alright. Would argue that its a place better for lounging rather than dancing.
Went here for the club with my friends. super crowded and everyone was bumping into eachother. security let VIP push you and kick you out if you defend yourself. security on power trip
Everything in this place is sticky/dirty. The floors are a nightmare and the heat is unbearable. Only have 2 small box fans and the staff is rude and disrespectful. This place is over hyped.
This is the spot I promise. Shyy is the G, Braxton the goat, Ellie runs an amazing team, Reese holds it down, Nay runs the kitchen.the closest to home away from. Home I been in a minute.
This is ABSOLUTELY the coolest space in Salt Lake City and honestly probably the entire valley. The peace, tranquility, positivity and energy of the space is unmatched. Met the owner...very grateful and humble with a powerful spirit...deserves your buisness. Support local. Support conscious paths. Support this space. It will support you..
WOW!!!My group of girls went to the Sunday brunch drag show and it was SO MUCH FUN!The Habitat staff was so friendly and helpful, and the drag performers were so fun. Thank you for a great Sunday!!
This is a cool little venue. It has two levels and a good vibe. My friends had the burgers and they said they were pretty good.
What a secret gem! I hope enough of you find this place to keep it open, but still allow my friends and I to enjoy it without too much of a wait. Fun dance spot and cheap drinks.
This is a very questionable establishment. We went here because we were directed to last minute by a bar crawl posted on Eventbrite. The services provided were not what was listed on the ad so we requested a refund and were emailed by a man named Chris Despres who states he’s an employee of this business claiming they rendered the services and they have “photos” it seems like this bar or at minimum this employee is engaging in dishonest practices
This is my first time visiting Shades so I was weary of what to order, I asked Austin for fruity suggestions and he made a Watermelon mimosa, had me try to be sure I was satisfied. Austin is super sweet, would recommend his services!
What a great vibe and SPOT! Also the beers are the best in town (shades) So much SPACE, great views, and clean . Not sure if they do parties, or reservations...cant wait to see what this place turns into!
Habiat coffe shop is just unique... if you ever give yourself the opportunity to come around youll find yourself sorrounded with an amazing and relaxing vibe, beautiful art ,great staff, and the best quality food; i would highly suggest this place to college students or bussines people like me, who want to get out of the routine and find a perfect and peacuful place to give our best performace!!
Matty at the door and the 2 security guys last night were chill always nice but waiting nearly half hour to order drinks then have a bartender tell the guy taking my order to stop and go to another person is infuriating. ended up spending a total of $0 since no one ever took my orderunderstood yall were busy af last night but yall need to hire more bartenders ASAP
TBH I love Shades sour beers so much when they’re good. But the flavors from can top can are drastically different. One is so flavorful and the next 2-3 are watered down.
The new place is super open and well decorated. And the blueberry peach sour is amazing! Our server Austin was super helpful and friendly.
I’ve never been here, it looks really interesting and good. I am planning on going here on my free time but I have heard that you aren’t allowed to go in if you are not 21+ I just want to comment on here because I had no other option on google to ask questions. I’m just wanting to confirm. Please and thank you.
I left my wallet at shades last week and I have been trying to call them to find out about it and they will not answer their phones. It’s too bad they don’t have a working phone number to get a hold of their establishment. So now I have to make a trip from Herriman all the way down there just to see if they have my wallet.
Bouncer tried to fight me after calling me the N word. So yeah, take that for what its worthEdit reply:Ah well perhaps Im remembering it all wrong. But good thing you have the video. Why not post it to clear this whole mess up?
Personally I love this establishment because they keep a professional environment similar to a library making it perfect for studying or working. I saw some people leave 1 star reviews due to their no kid policy- but I can really appreciate that.
Amazing Place! The atmosphere is perfect for so many occasions. If you haven’t been there you definitely need to go. The owner and people that work there are so nice and helpful.
Shades has a great beer selection! Lots of variety, and a delicious flavors! Austin has been on top of all of our requests!
Utah Cheese awards was fun, and Shades was a great venue! Helpful, knowledgeable, fun bartenders, and great variety of beer.
Great location, super chill atmosphere. outstanding service, delightful food and bevs. Can’t beat it! Give it one try and you’ll be hooked.
Shyy was extremely fun and friendly while welcoming us in, and our beer cocktails were some of the best I’ve had!
Excellent beer, great service, ample and comfortable space. It was a Friday and they had live music. Great place for a group as well.
Bartenders were quick and the ambiance lively. We had a great time. Would come back again!
Love this place! Quickly becoming my go to bar. The staff is great and the drinks and food are amazing! Def check it out.
I love Habitat Coffee shop! Great atmosphere, great people, great food, great coffee. This will be my new go to coffee shop for chillin and getting my computer work done.
Amazing environment! I recommend to all my friends to go here! Customer service is amazing. Erick always makes an effort to make sure his customers are always happy.
Terrible, you cant have a drink with pleasure because Nicole the girl at the bar throws her racism out through her pores we were a group of 4 people and we had a terrible time, we didnt consume what we wanted because of her bad treatment
This place has so much space, a great panoramic view of the city, and incredible food & coffee. Probably the best kept secret in Salt Lake City right now.
This is one of my favorite bars ever!!! Shyy is the kindest and all of the staff make me so happy!!
Very cute coffee/small meal shop on the 2nd floor. Plenty of seating, and a decent size stage for musical events.
$20 cover on a Saturday night? At a brewery? Pfft. Yeah, this isn’t NYC. It’s bar downtown SLC. So yeah. Guess I’m done with this place.
Best coffee shop we have in Utah by far. Gorgeous decor and a great place to grab brunch or have a business meeting.
Amazing place, friendly staff, great food! Me and my friend had the best time, definitely one of the best places I’ve been in Salt Lake City
Really relaxed place with amazing food, and friendly people. I was bummed to see so few people here, maybe I visited at the wrong time. Worth the visit
Atmosphere was great! Definitely will be back! Come check it out!
Best place in Utah hands down shoutout Shyy,Ellie,Reese,Braxton and Nay must visit if you’re in Utah
$15.62 for a crown royal with soda water…is this correct? The bartender said $2.00 of that was for the soda water.
Really great venue...just up a short flight of stairs lies a spacious venue... comfortable seating... decent beverages...great service....
First time here and we loved it. Austin was so funny and knowledgeable. Will definitely be coming back👍🏽

Habitat was amazing!! Beautiful space, amazing food and coffee!! Would recommend 10/10
Amazing spot, we had a good time at this place, we will be regulars from now on, the music the coffee was all amazing.
Big area would be great for pre gaming or just a good hangout for big or small groups.
Love this coffee shop but loved working with them for events! They were wonderful.
Everyone should get a chance to visit this place. Great place to just chill. Plenty of comfy spots.

I love the place, the coffee, teas and other delicious preparations, the cozy atmosphere, I dont give it 5 stars because of the average quality in the attention and service
Excellent food... the meat is unmatched, the attention special and the dessert deadly. 100% recommended.
