Ive been to Punchline many times took a chance and checked out a comedian MIKE E WINFIELD (hilarious) I found on YouTube.. I had a great time and I usually wont buy comedy club appetizers 💰💰💰 but I was on an empty stomach fulfilling my 2 drink minimum 🤣 totally surprised how tasty these tenders were. They came with BBQ kettle chips and ranch..
The management is pretentious but the food was good for what it is. It was on the healthy side. I didnt like the first two comedians but the headliner kind of made it worth it almost. The comedian was a famous comedian and he was still just as funny as on television. But the management has to let go of that petty stuff. I dont feel its the actual staff workers I feel like its being enforced by some invisible entity and it feels evilI would also like to know there is no wheelchair access if you have a bag orthopedic issues please be prepared to walk up at least three flights of stairs theres also a very long walk. They also make you stand in line for a very long time
One of San Franciscos classic, long running venues. Have seen some comedy greats here. Small enough for everyone in the audience to feel engaged with the performer. Great staff, good food. FYI: Two drink minimum. Easy to find street parking at night, but parking garages nearby. If you come off the street its a bit hard to find you have to go up the stairs and around...
Watched a comic here, had a great time. I know I had trouble finding out the answer to this, so wanted to share the difference in seating tickets for those who wanted to know. First off, seating is pretty much first come first serve (open seating). However, the difference between Standard Ticket General Admission and the Preferred Seating General Admission tickets are that the Preferred Seating (while still not assigned) is for the first row tables right in front of the stage + the two left and right podium seating area. Thats pretty much it, really. I bought the Standard ticket and managed to sit in the second row, you just need to be there early to make sure you get good seats.
Great venue, a bit of a bummer they force you to buy 2 drinks but otherwise a fun spot!
Amazing experience. The staff is on top of their game. Efficient, fast and kind. The ambiance is cozy and you are truly so close to the comedians. A show you cant forget.
Longtime fan of the Punch Line but they’ve gotta get their cooling system figured out. It was so hot in there I had sweat running down my face and could barely focus on the show. Please get this figured out so I can come back!
Great venue, super friendly guest service. Went to a late night saturday show for Jordan Jensen. We were worried about parking but found street parking right behind the venue and luckily returned to the car in the same condition. There was an ID check and metal detector wand and bag check which was nice to see being done. The venue was nice a clean and we were seated pretty quickly once inside. Drink service was a little slow but it was a sold out show and they did their best.
Simply one of the top comedy clubs in the whole country. Very intimate. Not a bad seat in the whole house.Weve seen 100s of comedians there over the decades -- both big name comedians and others that are just getting started.Theres nothing quite like live stand-up. If youre a bit worried about getting called on, just sit a couple tables back.Highly recommended!
The Punch Line provided a nice experience, with the door and front of house staff being courteous and swift. The comics were all pretty good. I had two white wines and they were also good. Overall, a comedy club experience that is pretty familiar with two drink minimum. The location is weird, on top of a parking garage without much going on around it, but it was easy to see the awning from the street.
The place itself is well located and list of comedians are good. However he warned that you need to shellout 2 drinks minimum and they will pre authorize your card for it.Drinks are way overpriced. $17 for a can of beer. ?? $6 for a slim soft drink??I would come again if they reduced it to 1 drink.
I was 1st in line with preferred seating, should be 1st row, employee said single males not allowed in the front row. Will never go again. Employee wanted to put me 6 rows back with asile seat
Had a blast at Punchline San Francisco. This place showcases local comedic talent. They were super funny. Some funnier than others. They have several food options. There is a two drink minimum which includes water/non-alcoholic beverages. It was a good time. We went for girls night out but there were several people on dates. If youre in the San Francisco area Punchline is a fun inexpensive activity.
The comedians were excellent, especially Ben Feldman! Im not a big drinker, so I cant see enforcing a 2 drink minimum. Food ordered should be considered one item. Atmosphere was relaxed and the indoor temp was perfect (weird I know, but Im always cold). The only negative would be the language- cussing over and over doesnt make you funnier, only annoying. If your set isnt funny, the language isnt going to help.
Heads up--theres a 2 drink minimum. I was forced to spend an extra $15 on literal cans of water. The server who informed me of this was pretty rude about it, and said the club wouldnt make any money otherwise. If thats the case, either raise ticket prices or make this policy clear BEFORE folks buy a ticket. The lack of transparency is just sleazy.
Good size place to have comedy. The staff was really cool and the hostesses were helpful. I had 2 appetizers, and they were plentiful. I stuck to beer, but Im sure they must have some sort of specialty cocktails. All in all, I had a good time, plus you cant go wrong with Dana Gould on stage. He still has it!
Fun comedy club. Went on an off night, which was perfect because it wasnt too busy and there almost no wait to get anything from the staff. Most of their drinks are served as doubles, without costing a double. No hassling at the door
Excellent show. Drinks are great. Food is bad, but that was expected. Definitely a fun experience.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an absolutely fantastic time at the Punchline Comedy Club! From start to finish, the experience was top-notch. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, creating the perfect setting for a night filled with laughter. The lineup of comedians was outstanding, showcasing a diverse range of talents that had the entire audience in stitches. Each performer brought their unique style and humor, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed to make the night memorable. The drinks and snacks were delicious, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The venue itself was well-designed, with great seating and excellent sound quality, ensuring that every joke and punchline hit just right. The intimate setting made it feel like we were part of something special, creating an unforgettable experience.I cant wait to return to the Punchline Comedy Club for another evening of laughter and fun. Its definitely a must-visit spot for comedy enthusiasts and anyone looking for a great time. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Phil Griffiths headlined the show. He was great! Location is perfect. Easy to get to. Lot of parking nearby. Wait staff are great.
I purchased $200 of tickets for 5 people today (Wednesday) intending to go on Saturday. I realized moments after the fact that I purchased tickets for the wrong day and called the box office when they opened today. They informed me there is nothing they can do to help me (no refund or transfer to my intended date) and that I would need to repurchase my $200 tickets for the correct date. I have never seen a business operate like this and unwilling to help their customers. I have been to the punch line many times sine 2018 and each time the service seems to have gone down hill. I will never be going back here when they cannot do anything to keep customers happy.
The comics were wonderful, and the venue is nice, but unfortunately our night was ruined when a staff member attempted to deny one of our group the ability to administer their life saving medication. It is hard to recover and continue laughing when someone with a disability is put at risk. We did try to discuss this with staff at the end of the evening, and we were dismissed, both figuratively and literally. Its truly disheartening and disappointing to be so excited for a show and spend so much money to be treated this way.
Paid for four drinks and food for a party of three. Was escorted out for not buying an additional 2 drinks. 2 drink minimum for a private party is still apparently legal. Such a shame they chose to press this issue and were so very rude and unprofessional.
Over priced drinks and good comedy. If theyre going to charge that much, they need better options for drinks and seats.
Love this place! Wish there wasnt a 2 drink minimum, but I suppose they have to make their money somehow.
Mark Smalls CRUSHED IT on May 31, 2024. This is such an awesome venue for headliners.
We enjoyed a great set! The comics were terrific — sharp wit but nothing mean or unkind. Yes, the drinks are expensive, but the staff were totally ok if you preferred a soft drink. Skip the food, though the hummus plate looked good.
They get good comics here; we saw Greg Proops on New Years Eve and it was a great time. Their cocktails are ok; a bit light on the alcohol but thats most comedy clubs. Food wise its best to hold off, you cant be *that hungry* FFS! Even their basic popcorn was a disaster: enough salt to stop your heart in 90 minutes, then their non-butter flavors were lazily put together: we found something that resembled a melting Knorr bouillon cube stuck on the side of two or the three paper popcorn boxes. Stick to wine or beer and youll be safe. The service is actually very good, please tip generously!!
Great experience! Waitstaff was awesome. My old fashioned wasn’t very good lol. Only thing I really had an issue with was the AC. With such a small venue and how they pack people in there, I think the space needs better airflow.
The location of the venue is awesome with it being on a rooftop right downtown. Although you dont get the views from inside, the exterior view and experience is top notch. They also manage to book some very high quality comedians. We saw Amir K when we went and it was definitely an evening well spent. They do require a minimum of two drink purchases per person (can be non-alcoholic).
I went here on a Tuesday 11/14/2023 and had a terrible experience. Completely because of a mediocre comedian who was the second performer of the day and identified himself as an Asian from Oakland. I’m a South East Asian male. One thing is making jokes about stereotypes and the other is berating all of South East Asians along with not identifying them as Asians. I’m surprised he strongly believes that too. I was hoping for the main act by Stuart Thompson would make up for it with comedy the second guy lacked but was totally disappointed. Will not be coming back for these guys at any place. The venue itself, the organizers and the host (a South East Asian woman ironically) were nice, so leaving a star.
To start, I didn’t even foot the bill here, so I personally spent no money. That being said, as some other reviewers have mentioned, it’s incredibly scummy to require a two drink minimum, especially when a Coors light costs $17/per. The lack of transparency is gross. And it’s a shame because I really enjoyed the performance I came to see. Just make the ticket price more expensive, and stop enforcing the drink minimum.
Couldnt believe it when I heard that Google bought the building, it was the very last show until Dave Chappelles support, punch line now has a lease of 2 years. Hopefully, theyre not going to be shut down.Drinks were a lil on the sweet side but I tend to prefer it that way, but they were good. Garlic fries were yummy. Server was on top of her game, remembered my and SOs second beverage. MC or host of show was funny and crass, she was really good. The other more intelligent and subtle comedian was good too but he lost some of the crowd. Chad Daniels, the headliner was fantastic. New material than his special. He is sharp! Edgy, dry, sarcastic, witty 😊
Staff were great, the place is nice, and they draw great comedians.
Paid $35 tickets to the comedian we went to see. On top of this there is a mandatory requirement to buy 2 drinks minimum. I was there after dinner so had no desire to drink. And I was forced to buy overpriced horrible drinks. Cocktails are $22+ EACH and a Beer is $18. The greed is phenomenal.I was disgusted.
Great show from David Nihill, but be aware of the two drink minimum!
Comedy show was great!Their drinks however are expensive, not good and they want to force you to buy at least two. It would be great if they made better drinks, then I’d happily pay for more than two.
The venue is nice. The 2 drinks minimum policy is quite annoying, as the waiters distract you multiple times during the show and the rule is absurd. No wonder its not full and Im actually surprised there are people that go again. Please change this and figure out how to run a business.
It’s not that it was bad it just wasn’t good. Headline comedian was mediocre at best. Made a joke about someone in the audience taking ambien and I think he himself is the one he took it. Not sure if the comedians weren’t taking it seriously because it was Thursday or if this is the normal act but it wasn’t good.My friend is from Wisconsin and she wasn’t even laughing. I was expecting this to be on par with NYC or LA but I’ve gotten a better show at an open mic night from an Applebees in the middle of Tennessee. Did I mention I picked off all my nail polish during the headliner show? Even the alcohol didn’t help. Anyways I hope this club gets a better headliner or a complete revamp of their show.Oh wait the location was cool and the actual place clean and specious so therefore two stars. Beware though. Lots of stairs but pretty garden.
This is truly the premiere comedy club in San Francisco. The venue is classy and the staff is phenomenal. They have definitely upgraded their food and beverage menu and the prices reflect it. Intimate and lively I find myself as the Punchline quite often for something no pill can give me, laugh therapy. This venue is a Bay Area gem. Go laugh your pain away.
Not our favorite. Servers were slow and forgot us, drinks heavily priced, seats uncomfortable, and comedy was not our style. I did my best to try and enjoy it, but it felt like suffering for 70% of it. We got a few good laughs towards the end of the show. The staff were thorough, and processed people efficiently. The place has good protection. I have to give the honest earned credit.
Genius security guard checked my group’s real IDs, flicked them around, and said “in my professional opinion, these are fake and you guys have to leave.” Guess she has never been outside the state of California.. my group was two Georgia and one Arizona license. The three of us are 23, 26, and 27. We have no reason to commit a crime and use a fake ID to get in. The fact that we were accused of it in front of the other guests was outrageous. She ended up letting us in after a couple minutes but said we weren’t allowed to drink — we weren’t planning on it anyway.Redeeming quality was the headliner Sammy Obeid and the lemonade was good.Hire new security.
Awesome show, great talent.Great service, clean facilities.Overpriced but very strong drinks, example..$17 for 1 lagunitas?!
Came out and saw a show a few years ago. Nice ambiance with top notch service.
The comedy was good, but the drinks are absurdly expensive. A 750ml beer was $17 (with tax and a tip), soft drinks and water were also in the $5-$7 range. I knew about the 2 drink minimum before hand, but didnt expect the drink prices to be extortionate.
Relatively small but I liked how close you are to the comedians,.Could do a better use of the bar area and have more drinks options but overall is a fun club
Famous comedy venue with comfortable seeting, accessible entrance, and artistic atmosphere. Fantastic food and drink selection at a moderate price. Staff are friendly and efficient. Shows fill up and the preformers are a hit 9/10 times. Easy to get to and in a beautiful part of town.
What a great place. Drinks a little pricey, and its a 2 drink minimum. 2 cokes and two drinks 60$. But the comics were amazing!!!
We booked tickets for a show as we were in Vegas.Paid tickets for entry - which wasnt particularly cheap at about $18 dollars per person - and then a 2-drink minimum on top. Wouldnt be so bad, but the drinks were extremely expensive, even by US standards. A beer was, if I recall, about $15, so about double even the most expensive London prices. Service wasnt great either - we didnt even hit the minimum drinks because the server never came back to the table after the first round. The show was a bit hit-and-miss. A couple of genuinely funny comics, a few more mediocre ones, and a few that didnt even reach those heights.Probably amazing on the nights they get one of the big, famous comics coming back if youre lucky enough to be there.
Local, visitor, coming alone or with a group - Punchline is amazing and I truly can’t recommend it enough (nobody asked me to write this, I’m just waiting for the show to start lol). I’ve never had a bad time here. More important, I’m a single female and I feel SO comfortable coming here solo. The staff are *chef’s kiss*. Literally every freaking one of them is so friendly and makes me feel so welcome. The comedy itself is just spot on, all the time. Drinks are alright - not bad but not doubles (unless my tolerance has greatly increased..) and pricey, and there is a 2-drink minimum, but it doesn’t have to be alcohol. Food is fine (nothing spectacular but like the drinks, not bad). I get here early enough to always find seemingly the last place to park on the street, so it’s possible if you’re an early bird. They just can’t do it wrong here. It really is a good vibes place, and I hope that never changes. Thank you, Punchline. One critique: there could be better signage. The entrance is in a very odd location in the building.
This isnt based on the show. Just the food/ service. The two drink minimum is common, but they also charge $5 minimum for a water. I wasnt expecting for my tables tab to be put on my card, so when the others at the table didnt order a second drink, I was stuck with their penalty. The receipt wasnt itemized, making it more complicated to figure out the high price. On the plus side the chocolate cake was delicious. It was also annoying that they locked away my phone. Having it on me was nice, but not being able to use it seemed a bit extra. This became extra inconvenient when I showed up before my party and wanted to make sure we sat together. On thr plus side, I showed up early enough and they were kind enough to allow me to reserve a couple tables next to each other.A plus is accessibility. There is free parking around if youre patient and willing to look. If you arent driving, it is a 10min walk away from BART.
I even don’t wanna give a single star for this place. First, they force to us to buy 2 drinks and 1 glass of vodka was 18 dollars. We asked another sparkling waters separately, the staff never served us until I order alcohol. The biggest problem is parking lot there. They said they are closing at 10pm with very tiny letters and the show ended at 10pm. We had to go back with Ubber and I had to pay for 24 hours which costed 44 dollars. Including taxi fee, we had 120 dollars of loss. So scammy business place. It seems like their attitude towards customers is just how to make money from people rather than providing quality service. Your time and money is precious. I will never visit this place ever again.
On top of your ticket youll need to purchase 2 drinks minimum and the drinks are ridiculously expensive. Our party wasnt a huge fan of the jokes, also most of the comedians jokes were heavily focused on drugs and substance abuse. Probably laughed like 5mins in total of 2 hours. Wasnt worth the hype, wont be returning.
Was rushed out after a show in the most bellicose, hostile, insulting, and downright mean way imaginable while waiting for friends using the bathroom and trying to finish drinks we were forced to get (surprise two drink minimum, anyone?). Put a cloud over the rest of our day — 0/10 do not recommend.
For tourists from outside San Fran (and maybe US)Rude staff, hushing people as if we are in a classroom! Noone was talking loudly to the point that needs hushing! That was just rude! There was a minimum order of 2 drinks per person which was not mentioned anywhere. So careful.Stand up was good but bar not worth it.
Really nice up to date club. Perfect size. Decent selection of bar food and lots of cocktail choices. Tickets go through the evil empire live Nation so you will be hit with exorbitant fees to buy tickets online. We got them at the box office. There is a two drink minimum and the drinks were mostly $12 so keep that in mind. Overall we had an excellent time. The service was great! I would highly recommend it.
Nice little club, small enough that any seat in there is good. Been to two different shows and its a great deal at $20 per ticket. Enjoyed all the comedians so far. Theres a two drink minimum but the wait staff takes great care of you. Food is a bit overpriced, especially the nachos, but they were still tasty. Save a few bucks and make sure you arent hungry going in. Other than that, its a good night out.
2 drinks minimum per person after 50 dollars ticket?!
Small intimate size comedy club. Great for comedians doing crowd work. Ive been there 2 times and no matter where you sit its a good seat.
Husband and I watched a package comedy show (Sunday May 8th 2022). They have more than 5 comedians that time. It was fun. However the drinks are pricey and you need to buy drinks minimum of 2 drinks per person. Overall, it was worth it.
Everyone from the door staff, to the waitstaff to the comedians, were beyond great!! Highly recommend this venue if you want a fun night out with a bunch of laughs.
If I can rate zero I would. Very difficult to find, staff was very rude. The comedian asked is anyone from the Midwest…and out loud I said yes! Seconds later someone came up to me said I could not speak out loud. Not good environment. So bad don’t go here. I felt so uncomfortable. People were so rude. Demanded tips.
Great show, we were there for Chris Porter but the very rude door staff, seating staff and slow food/bar service ruined the whole experience. People to the left and right of us were served food and drinks before our order was taken but we we there before them.At one point Chris looks over to my friends group who is celebrating his Birthday and begins making some jokes. It was awesome. But then my wife and I get approached by this rude short girl employee with the beanie and tells us no yelling since we said Happy Birthday to him from across the room.(My wife and I were sitting at a different table) Im still confused why we were given attitude. Thanks Debbie Downer. She does not belong working at a comedy club if she considers this kind of situation yelling. Couldnt wait to leave after this. Ill definitely come see Chris Porter again but not here.
This place has great comics and I love the rooftop location. I do wish theyd update their seating and do away with the 2 drink minimum. My friend and I were seated in a both against the front window. The seat was too deep for me to sit back comfortably and my ass feel asleep before the headliner was up; I kept changing positions and it made it difficult to fully enjoy the show. The drinks...I can appreciate the amount of alcohol that goes into them for the cost. I am glad that the $6.50 coffee counted towards my drink minimum. Id prefer the wait staff not be in my face while Im trying to enjoy the show. The staff was friendly though, and I felt safe with the metal defector and security doing rounds.
Normally we have great service. The waitstaff were wonderful and attentive even though the place was packed. We paid for the seat upgrades and when we got there they told us that just guaranteed us a table... Im pretty sure thats what the tickets did. We got a refund and since no large parties showed up they moved us to cushioned seats. The manager was willing to work with us but that really put a damper on the whole night. So heads up about the seat upgrades that are supposedly only table reservations...
Getting upstairs to punchline entrance was a bit to be desired with the smell of urine in the corridor, highly suggest holding your breath for the 15 second incline. The venue was cozy and inviting, we went to the Sunday night lineup and highly recommend it. We saw about 12 comedians and enjoyed majority. It was a fun time with laughs all around 😁
Cool venue once you get inside. (You may have to walk over or step through some homeless person’s urine on the back steps to get to the front door.). Inside, the place is well decorated and has a nice ambiance. The staff were friendly. The drinks are expectedly overpriced. The comedians just weren’t good. It’s evident comedy is dying due to woke cancel culture. The comedians were too afraid or lacked the creativity to push boundaries on social issues. Therefore the jokes weren’t very good. Be prepared for a heavy dose of white people jokes. Apparently whites are the only unprotected group these days. So you get jokes about Whole Foods, Trader Joes, vegans and “Karen” jokes. Ironically vanilla.
2 hours straight comedy, 10 or 12 comedians following each other up fast, no break, awesome!! Booking process was complicated, only mobile ticket available but they dont let you download the Live Nation app because that is only for citizens of the USA. Should be called Live Nazis ;-) . Seriously: accepting a foreign credit card but not accepting the same foreigner downloading your app, that is weird.
Semi small little comedy club. Friendly staff and pretty good food. I only ordered a few sides it was good. Its not the most expensive but there is normally a two drink minimum.I would recommend getting there about 30/45 minutes early if you want to claim a seat with a table in front of you. Most seating is first come first serve.
We saw Beth Stelling. She was great, maybe a bit tipsy. Her middle act Ronnie Hoffman was amazing. The venue is cool, though in a random local.
We 3 mature ladies attended a comedy show 2/8/22. At the start the 1st comedian said they wanted audience interaction to make things more fun and lively. One of us did just that, but politely and at appropriate times. She was reprimanded a few times to NOT do so. It was such a downer to our evening, we were told to leave in the middle of the headliner act. We won’t be going back. By the way, Ticketmaster refunded our money.
The venue and comics were awesome. The fact that they made me sit in front of stage when other seats were available, was not so great.
Nice club and good comedy. Went for the San Francisco comedy showcase and that was a great way to experience the local scene, with a long and diverse lineup of comics from the area. Recommend this for a fun night out thats unique to SF.
Comedians were hilarious, including the host, and the venue is really pleasant inside. I had a great time, would definitely go back.It has a really weird entrance- from the street, you have to climb a bunch of stairs, then walk through this park-like roof area around to the other side of the building. Also note theres a 2-drink minimum.
Place itself was really nice and show was excellent but they only sell alcohol in extremely large bottles or cans, and they require you to buy min two. That was annoying. I dont want to drink that much.Perhaps instead some minimum order overall vs just drinks
Came here for the Jimmy O Yang show. It was hilarious. I loved it!! The area isnt that big, but can hold a good amount of people. No wonder the tickets sold out so quickly. The place says 2 drinks minimum per person, but we only bought one each and some snacks. After you go through security, the usher seats you based on how many people are in your party. But over all great experience!!
Great comedy club. first time there but lived the layout and how great all the seats are. definitely recommend. staff is also really nice and accommodating.
Great venue and awesome comedian the night we went to.
The venue was quite dissolute in its location nothing else around the venue was open, easy to get in, but the food and drinks prices were very high. But the show was great had a great time.
This was my first time in a comedy club and I was literally laughing so hard I started tearing up!I had a really good time here. We had food from the restaurant we attended before coming to Punch Line and was told that outside food is not allowed BUT they can put it in the fridge. I thought the employee was going to tell us to throw it away. I was actually really surprised they offered that here! Good first impression. We were the first ones to be seated actually so we decided to sit in the far left with cushioned seats. It was very comfortable, and we were lucky we were able to be there.I ordered a Moscow Pule and Punch Line Punch throughout the whole show. Mind you, there is a two drink minimum and theyre around $11-12 each so prepare for that! Unless you come in a little buzzed like we did...There was a total of 4 comedians and I would say they were all funny. Two were REALLY funny and were great with audience participation. Unfortunately, I dont remember any of their names...I guess its a hit or miss here with the comedians.I would love to come back here and bring my friends!
This is probably my favorite comedy club in the bay area. They book headliners so that is always a treat. Has an easy, but almost hidden location to get to, surrounded by multiple parking garages, and close to Bart as well. Love this place, and although there is a 2 drink minimum, its not the priciest place out there. This Place is what comedy clubs should be. The comedians, staff are awesome.
Great staff and good food. Drinks a bit on the expensive side, as expected (2x) and 2 drink minimum for shows. They have a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks too. Be warned, line wraps around the building for popular shows, usually 20 min before the doors open.
Good comedy and club layout, but staff was really rude — asked to be move to a different seat after waiting in line and being one of first people into the venue — staff responded aggressively and seated us in the back. Also drinks are way overpriced (w/ two drink minimum).
From checking in until the end of the comedy show effortless!!! Had an amazing night. Amazing comics as well!! Food menu limited but tasty drinks strong and needed!!
The Punch Line is a San Francisco classic. Its a small cozy club that has great entertainment. Theres a 2 drink minimum and drinks start at $6. The food is ok, not great, so dont come here to eat. But if you want to have a fun time watching comedy close up this is a great place to go.
A good comedy place!! Nice staff! First time there the white Russian was big and delicious the second time there it was small and tasted artificial and gave me a sick feeling. but no il take a biig real cream one thankyou ;) Heard girls snorting in stall next to me, such an experience! - now Im a regular and the drinks are garbage, dont even try their grey goose
Favorite SF comedy spot. Very small. Staff is great.Even if you dont know the comedian, go anyway. Sure to be a good time.
Great small comedy club. When I first went there, I didn’t expect to understand much, being a non-native speaker. Or my surprise, I understood almost all of the jokes and had a lot of fun. The place is small and cozy. You sit really close to the scene. The food and drinks are fine, a bit on the expensive side. There is a minimum of 2 drinks per person, and you can’t get food instead.
Love the intimate size of the place. Drinks were so expensive and not that great but I guess they gotta make their money somehow. Waitresses were great though and even though there were not very many of them they were fast and efficient and we never had to wait long to place an order. Comedy the night we went was great!
The Punch Line always delivers a great time. Went on a Saturday night with another couple to see Phil Hanley. Arrived almost late for the last show of the evening, we were at the end of the entrance line but still got an excellent table up front. Phil Hanley and the earlier acts were awesome. I really enjoyed the way he worked the audience and landed some great white-guy jokes. They draw great talent here, so I would not even question who is on the bill, just go have a good time.
Great venue for a comedy show. The cocktails are way overpriced but tasty.
If you find yourself in the financial district looking for something to do one evening, try the Punch line. Comics can be hit or miss as with any place, and the drink prices are a bit on the steep side but not outrageous (2drink minimum). Be warned; if you show up as a twosome, and by general admin, you’re likely to be front row at the stage.
Been to a few comedy places, the Punchline was mediocre. The seating was nice though. I think it may be the artists that day when I was there that wasnt that great. It is pretty hidden upstairs and around many corners, but I did enjoy my evening their with my date. Its very near the Bart station as well.
Ive previously had nothing but outstanding service at Punchline. Tonight was an exception. They had a member of their waitstaff call off, and were short handed. While I completely understand that they were stressed by this, the waitress we were assigned was fairly indignant about the 2-drink minimum, despite us ordering doubles on the first round to try to take off some of the pressure. I just think it could have been handled better, so theyre not quite getting 5 stars this time. But every other experience has been a 5-star one!
Note: This is a rating of the venue, not the comedians. I had a great time here last night because the comedy was phenomenal. The service was slow and infrequent, so I went up to the bar to order my drinks. The bartender wouldnt serve me because I was sitting at a table, so I had to wait for the server. The drink prices were steep, even by SF standards, and of course theres a 2 drink minimum on top of the show ticket price, as is to be expected with a comedy club. The place is not particularly well maintained, and its tucked away off of Battery Street in what looks like an office building.Come here for great comedy, just dont expect anything awesome beyond that.
Hmmm... Its a great venue and kind of a little tricky to find the first time but, its great inside there is obviously great organization. They also have a good amount of options for meals, snacks and drinks which is good when there is a two drink minimum. Im giving the venue a 4/5 but as for the comedy show it was ok. Most of the people up there were white, again its probably specific to the show: SF showcase, but it seems like all white people can joke about is about sex, it gets pretty old pretty quick though some jokes were funny, just not that funny. Its nothing compared to my experience in the laugh factory (the laugh factory was super great)
Overall it was a fun experience. It seemed like an endless parade of comics doing about 7 min sets. Good variety without a ton of blue humor. Drink and food prices are pretty high and there is a two drink minimum.
A good variety of talent. The main attraction was truly entertaining. Ron was flamboyant, very likeable, and extremely funny. A great closing act making for a fun night. I wish we had more places like this in Canada.
Missed the comedy scenes of Chicago and NYC but pleasantly surprised at punchline. If you are new to the city I highly recommend coming here on Sunday evening -- very bay area stereotypes and topics covered in the comedians bits. Many comedians take the stage for a short period of time on Sundays so you get a lot of flavor. Sunday night tickets are free but there is a 2 drink minimum if you sit at the table (1 Diet Coke is $7..comes in a small glass)...count on spending ~$20 / person.
Cozy atmosphere. caught a show on the fly when I randomly decided to go even though I was alone. was hanging out with a friend impromptu-like, but when she had to go I wasnt ready to go home yet and I was already in the city. Decided to check their shows and saw Chris Porter was gonna be on whom I remember from Last Comic Standing and his Netflix special. Parking can be hard but then again...its SF. Had to pay $27 just to get in, which seems steep. 2 drink minimum no matter what. My Old Fashioneds were delicious. The show was funny. Staff was friendly. Bathroom clean.
Weve been going to the Punchline for years, always good comedians, some better than others but never bad! Convenient, easy to park, eating at punchline is ok, foods good but not great. But you can miss the last minute rush and have time with friends and have a wonderful view!!
Its a nice and intimate venue. The staff was friendly. The food was okay. When I was there the comedy was quite left politically but I shouldnt have been surprised. Some of it was funny. Also I believe in capitalism and if Google bought the building they should close and move to a new location.
The awesome performance was absolutely hilarious wonderful environment had so much fun I would definitely come back
First time to this spot and I enjoyed myself. Was a bit hard finding the main door to the entrance of the inside. So just so you know go all the way around towards the back. We went to see Fahim Anwar guy was very funny and had us all laughing. Beer selection is limited with drinks I dont normally drink. Chicken nachos were very good! Great place will come back. Last but not least nice interior look of this place.
Fun evening. Good comedy with a variety of styles. Food is what you expect and drinks were fine.
Good bar and comedy. Difficult to find though
San Franciscos famous comedy spot hosts all the greats and, of course, the many local comedians that are up and coming.
Just attended the Stoner comedy jam at 8pm this evening.. the staff and food servers were awesome , but the prices are high for the size of the portions. I wasnt very impressed with the acts save for the second comedy act. He was funny and didnt need to use homophobic lines in his act.. I dont get that.. one lady talked about her vagina , and we were there for a stoners jam.. expect to pay 30.00+ with the 2 drink min.. and they will wall up to your table to make sure they get 2 out of you.. drinks start at 12.00.. overall not impressed for a establishment I was told was good for a laught..
First off, if you havent been here before youre going to have a tough time finding the entrance so be prepared to call and get verbal directions. When we got to the actual entrance there was still a crowd from the previous show so instead of waiting inside the building in a tiny waiting area we were asked to go stand outside. This may have been fine normally but it was 45° and pouring rain which was ridiculous. Once inside we were directed to a tiny 4 top table (there were only 2 of us) and told that we would be sharing the table with 2 other strangers. I asked if we could instead sit at a 2 top table and the host (visibly annoyed) obliged. This was pretty much every groups experience from what I could see. So, until the comedy started we were pretty irritated throughout the entire process and were close to leaving. Once the comedy acts started we were relieved that all of the comedians were pretty funny so it wasnt a complete disappointment after all. I dont think Ill ever go back to this venue in particular.
Do you like to laugh? What about drink alcohol? Well attended he punchline you can do both at the same damn time. Its a great venue thats a bit weird to get to. Once you climb the two flights of stairs youll be aimlessly walking around the building trying to find the entrance. Men seem to find the exit first which is just so typical. Anyway, once you find the entrance youll be seated with very strict rules.Apparently if you move a chair 1, youre going to have problems. They are a bit weird about moving chairs which is ok by me, but why not bolt them to the floor if thats going to be an issue? No heckling is allowed, so if youre British, youre not going to have a good time. So sit down, shut up, and drink.Drinks are ok if you get anything but the cocktails. They pour a good beer straight from the tap - cant go wrong.Lastly, you may want to order ice water because it can get super warm in there. So be warned to dress in layers.
One of two professional comedy clubs in SF. Comedy is very subjective. Great intimate venue to see very famous and also local comedians. Bar and wait staff is excellent. Food is delicious but not healthy.
Such a fun time. Entire staff was incredible, from security personnel to servers. Comedians were 10/10, laughing the entire time.
Great venue for comedy. Weve never had a bad time. Reasonably priced for the quality - headliners are known comics and the acts preceding them are always funny sometimes better than the main act.
We were staying at the Le Meridian Hotel which is just across the Punch-Line club so we gave it a shot. we love going to comedy clubs whenever we visit the US. It is our first time in a comedy club in SF. The show was great with Greg Proops. He is a pro & can handle a tough crowd. The food is good. The design of the club is great.
Omg Dan Cummins was awesome!! The opening act was great and the staff was friendly fast and phenomenal!! I have no idea how they remember each tables orders without a fault. But they did it just made a fun experience that much better!
Crooks. They use bait and switch tactics here. First they sell you tickets, and then tell you you have to buy two drinks minimum. If you dont want the drinks, they kick you out with no refund. Terrible.
Saw Bobby Slayton last night in a show called Bobby Slayton and Friends. It wasnt a full house as we were at the late show on Friday night, but it was a good turnout. The staff was attentive, and they were able to accommodate a member of our party who needed a spot to stand during the show. We ordered a root beer float, which was very good, but I would have loved to have it with the alcoholic version of root beer. But thats a minor complaint. All in all an enjoyable evening.
My favorite comedy club! The comedians that perform here are always exceptional! the seating is great b/c you can have a drink and meal and still see the stage without any problems. You can even run to the bathroom during the show and there is audio to hear the comedians in the bathroom! Ive never paid full price for a show bc they always have some kind of promotion. I would suggest anyone looking for a good cry of laughter to go here!
Smallish club, that makes the accomplished comic seem larger than life. Street parking is a rare luxury in this particular neighborhood. Supporting comics are generally above par. Drinks were enjoyable...on the strong side 👍Strongly recommended
*They use Live Nation and Ticket Master.* I had trouble with my ticket and could not get in. I had to eat the price of the ticket, which wasnt much, but the service fee was really high. I could have gotten ticket insurance, but that was almost $10. My friend told me the show was boring anyway. Not coming here again, and it was supposed to be my first time. Really wish I could give this negative stars.
My favourite comedy venue, Ive been here multiple times they get great comics and run a good show.
After spending $100 on tickets and being encouraged to be an engaged and enthusiastic audience we were chastised repeatedly for laughing and responding to the comedians questions, finally asked to leave! My friend actually said she was trying to be supportive of some pretty unfunny comedians! It was weird and off putting! We were not heckling or anything remotely like that, apparently the comedians on stage need to be protected and are very sensitive, maybe not in the right profession! And the club totally inappropriate for a comedy club to be controlling the audience like a fifth grade class in the library!
Amazing comics but they need a rehaul in their cocktail and food program. The cocktails are awful. I would pay more and buy more than the 2 drink minimum if they actually had a craft cocktail or two. Hell, even a prebatched negroni.
Awful show. And the drinks are disgusting. They clearly don’t get their line up. We had to listen to a guy talk about his relationship with his parents for an hour and none of it was funny. If you’re looking for a laugh this is not the place. If you decide to go anyway just order beer.
This is the better club for comedy. All respect due to Cobbs but Punchline is where you actually want to see comedy. Amazing space, great staff.
Comedy was great, 20 dollars for a beer was not.
This comedy club is an icon in San Francisco. The greatest comedians of all time at least once stepped on the punchline stage. Ive seen performances for as big as Dave Chappelle, and slightly smaller like Nemr and this place makes you feel like youre having a one on one conversation just based on how intimate the venue is.Like most comedy clubs its a two drink minimum which they dont always enforce since Ive gone away with just buying one drink but the staff is amazing.
Great comedy show and lineup on a Sunday night. A little expensive for simple mixed drinks especially with the 2 drink minimum during the show.
We have always had a great experience at Punchline. The comedians are hysterical, I dont think I ever laugh as hard as I do at this place. We have tried other spots and its just not as good. The quality they book at Punchline is worth the price and the 2 drink minimum. Guaranteed laughs here people.
WARNING!!!DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD HERE! We went to see Greg Fitzsimmons 8pm show November 9th. We paid extra for a seat upgrade. We sat down and a blond waitress came to our table for our drink order. She asked for our credit. I told her we were paying in cash. She said she still needed our credit card to open the tab and at the end we could pay cash. Well at the end of the show she brought us our bill for $62 and I handed her cash plus a $20 tip. She asked if I needed change and I said no. The next morning I checked my account online and it showed my account was charged the $62. I immediately called Punch Line and they said the manager would call me back. Well I have called at least eight times and sent numerous emails and i have yet to hear back from anyone. Save yourself the headache and hassle dont come here. They may steal your money like they did us.
Super funny comedy shows. Love this venue bc it’s intimate and there’s No hiding (I fell asleep in the audience and got made fun of a few times per my bf). Must purchase drink but so worth for a night out. Get your tickets in advance.
Venue is nice but the management is completely unprofessional. Samed to be exact. My friends and I went for the first time recently and apparently laughing at the comedian too loudly will get you kicked out for disturbing the set. As we were leaving Samed handled the situation horribly. Belly bumping me and being rough for no reason. Threatening to call the police because we weren’t leaving quick enough (I was trying to pay my tab)One of the employees, Mark made up for his manager being unprofessional but I will never go back. Cobb’s is a way better venue.
I went for a free show it was stoner comedy night.. They inforced the 2 drink minum, like the mafia. I did not notice the 2 drink minum rule on the menu as it was dark in venue.. I ordered a root beer float (remember I said this was a stoner comedy night) the manager kept shining a bright light at my table. I did not want a second root beer float... The waiter came up and demanded I order another drink... I got a shot of Jameson to appease them... Now what if I was driving? Also I was sitting with other people who where drinking and would have drank more than 2 drinks if the waiter would have not made them wait forever for another round. Over all just a bad experience.. Just charge me an entry fee instead of forcing me to drink. I will not be back and neither will the 6 other people I brought to the show.
Im here for the comedy, not the food or drinks. but inevitably, you get thirsty and theres a minimum when you go in so too bad! as expected, the drinks are high priced and low variety but whoever youre there to see that night, should make it all worth it! servers try their best but theres simply not enough of them to cover such a large group.
Great venue. Easy parking. The two drink minimum is real so dont be surprised. Excellent historic comedy venue!
The comedy was good, but was hard to get drinks. They said 2 drink minimum and we barely got served two drinks in the entire show. We would have drunk more with more prompt service.
I came here to see a show that was part of a comedy festival. Only one of the comedians was really good, and the other two were just fine.Beware of 2 drinks minimum policy, you pay cover (it depends on the show) and must get small and not cheap drinks.
I received free tickets for The Criminal Comedy Show. First you have to walk up almost 3 flights of steps from Battery St. Then there arent any signs nor directions indicating where the club is. The venue overbooked and myself and @ least 50 people were turned away after standing in line for over an hour.
This club generally lines up some of the best stand-up and improv acts at any given time throughout the year (and especially during SF Sketchfest). Good downtown location, and makes a great place for a date night - Best comedy club in the city that Ive been to yet.
Small, intimate club. Solid line ups and good drinks. A bit aggressive on who they kick out and why. Saw 2 entire tables removed over the course of a 3 hour show. Neither seemed entirely deserved, though the people were a bit annoying.
We went for the Sunday night review. A number of talented comics perform 7 or 8 minutes. Range of styles and personalites. Nice venue. Good crowd.
Great comedians, reasonably priced drinks.
I went this past Saturday to see Barry Rothbart and it was a TERRIBLE experience. He was struggling big time starting from the minute he was on stage. He couldnt get the crowd to laugh and was a complete ass to the audience. A total douche with a pompous attitude. The first act was a woman whos name i cannot remember. She wasnt very funny but still tried and was sweet. I absolutely loved the second guy who came on. He was so relatable and had some great content. I wanted Barry to get off stage and let David come back. Barry just sat down and looked through his phone to try and come up with some good content but was just a total flop and complete jerk. Sorry to give punchline 2 stars buy they really need to reconsider having Barry come back. The service was great. The waitress and the rest of the staff was awesome. Food was average. A little over priced for what u get but its a bar so o really didnt expect much. Very disappointing show.
Can get pricey since there is a 2 drink minimum along with the ticket price but it is a very well laid out venue. Every seat is a great view of the stage and the staff was excellent.
Small venue, which is nice, but the service here is not the best. The drinks are overpriced as well as the food, which is very mediocre and thats putting rather nicely. Id only come back if there was someone I really wanted to see.
Saw Maz Jobrani (Persian Comedian) here twice. They have a 2 drink minimum- which can be frustrating, but they have a nice menu, and it is a great venue for seeing your favorite comedians. Be sure to get there early as there is no stadium seating, so if you sit farther in the back it can be hard to see the stage.
I like club, its small and much more intimate.Crowd here is pretty good for comedy
Small and intimate venue; great for really connecting with the talent. Food prices were reasonable and the service throughout the show was very good. I recommend this place highly.
Went to see a Mark Normound show. He was one of the best stand ups I’ve seen and the tickets were only $25. Would highly recommend Punchline (lots of history here like Aziz Ansari and Chapelle have performed there) and seeing Mark when you can.
Drinks werent good and headliner, Barry Rothbart, sucked. He was so high he couldnt remember what he was talking about. He kept stopping to look at his phone. Really bad. Very disappointing. The only good thing was the opening act, he was very funny and nice.
A historical establishment for comedy. Ive seen the greats here. Robin Williams... Louis CK... Dave Chappelle. So many memories...I hope there will be more to come here. So intimate. So beloved. So needed. Please dont go away Punch Line.
The security was a bit much but since we went on New Years Eve I do hope that it is not a regular thing... the comedy was as expected a Pandering to the City folks love fest.. just curious if these comedians can take there comedy outside of the City and be as good as they were.. if you are looking for a night of easy Conservative and non Californian bashing then you are in the right or should i say left place... the drinks were so so.. but what can you expect when they have to get them all quickly and not disturb the Comedians tempo..
That was a nice night,we went to Stand up comedy night very nice environment ,so funny@ good jokes
Not living in bay area anymore, I havent been here in years. Still good vibe. See ya next time in town
Everyone here is so nice! From security to the waiters, youll always be greeted with a genuine smile and they crack their own jokes! Good food, good drinks, great atmosphere.
FunnyMy boy got made fun of for wearing a raiders hat.... Beware !! 🤣🤣🤣😭
Long time patron of comedy shows! Ive been to them all over the world. I have never been treated so rudely. These guys speak to you like they are annoyed to to talk to you. I waited an hour or so to see my fav comedic ( no big deal) I was 2nd in line yet they sat us all the way in the backright hand corner. (side view of the comics back of his head) I asked to sit closer to the center since I paid for 2 shows that night and this guy was plainly a big rude jerk. I was second in line yet people who showed up late got better seats. It made no sense at all.
Good comedy. Was a bit unsure because of some reviews; there is a 2 drink minimum but I can say service was great, and they were not at all pushy with the ordering drinks thing. Would def return.
Dont appreciate the two drink minimum in addition to having to pay for the tickets, but good place to see a comedy show. Pretty small so every seat is a good seat!
Great atmosphere. You can seat at the table or at the bar during the show. They have minimum of 2 drinks policy.
Well, its a great comedy club but dont ever upgrade to reserved table seating. You will pay extra to sit further away than if you just arrived early. Waste of money!
Love coming here. They bring great comics and the food and drinks are quality. Service is efficient and havent had anything but a great time coming to a show.
Great location that is small and very personal feeling. Service is good, but food and drink and a bit expensive. Definitely worth it though to see a performer you like.
Punchline is a great club, thats why I gave two stars. The three openers were funny. The reason for only two stars is the headliner, Amir K, was terrible. He kept talking about what a dud audience we were, but in truth he just wasnt funny. He didnt seem to have prepared material. He insulted the audience over and over and just came off like a jerk. We left early, and Ive never walked out on a comedian before.
Too much fun… It was a great date night place to go. Thank goodness for Uber. Because there is a 2 drink minimum.
Costly evening program. Each person needs to order at least two drinks in addition to the entrance fee. Some comics were quite good but not too good.Would go for another program next time
This place is tucked away but feels great on the inside. The staff and comics were real good. Also the drinks were nice and stiff!
Great venue! Tickets are inexpensive and the acts are always solid. This is a must in San Francisco!
The Punch Line is THE most prestigous and storied comedy club in all of northern california. The club is in the heart of san francisco near bart with ample parking nearby.Inside of the venue it is very intimate for a space which has famous touring comedians from all over the country. Sundays are my favorite because they showcase some of the best up and coming local comedians in the bay area.
Great venue. Best looking comedy club Ive ever been to. The food is a little pricey but its worth a good show.
Refused to let a hero share his emotionally touching and powerful story. He saved a woman’s life.
It’s the Bay Area’s premier stand-up comedy venue. Makes for a perfect date.
Small venue. Security took a bit to get everyone in, guess I felt safer thought? Food and drinks are expensive especially with a drink minimum on top of my ticket price
We love this comedy club. We used to go there every New Years Eve when we were living in San Francisco for 25 years. We still go there, every time we visit the Bay Area. Never saw a bad show.
Amazing atmosphere it was clean the comedy was on point customer representative were great very polite very upbeat and took time with my difficult order really had a nice time and I will be back thanks guys
