Rare west african restaurant in the heart of the mission district serving authentic dishes at a good price! would love to come back for one of their DJ or dance nights. really felt like a community in there.mafe with chicken and fufu: first time trying fufu and really enjoyed. chicken was nicely grilled and loved the mafe sauce.plaintains: perfectly made, just the right sweetness level
I’m sad and shocked. My dish looked delicious. I was expecting authentic Senegalese or even something resembling West African cuisine. The jolof rice was tasteless! How can you advertise jollof and it has no flavor. How is there fish with no seasoning and no spice? Everything we ordered was bland and not close to what Senegalese are proud of. I’m hoping the owner will consider making some minor tweaks in order to move this menu a bit closer to authentically West African flavors.
Delicious food in a large and fun space! They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas. They offer flavorful dishes at a reasonable price. The drink menu also looked really good. the staff were nice and friendly and helped us navigate the menu. The only improvement would be to increase the amount of fish, it was a very small piece of protein for that dish.
This place has a lot going for it and Im really glad to see it return and thrive. We brought some out of town guests here to eat. And we both ordered the fish plate. Mine was just the head and theirs was more of the body. I would like to have seen more meat than just the head. I have no problem of eating fish heads. That is part of my culture too, but I would think that they would serve something with a little more meat on it considering the people at the same table got a lot more. The coconut rum is really amazing but watch out cuz its easy to put it down. We were finishing dinner when the club section was starting to open so that was good timing. Very different vibe from the dinner time to the club time.
I went yesterday to a Brazilian party that was happening in this place. It was me and my husband. We wanted to eat before the party because we had never been to this restaurant before and the menu had many options for those who follow a plant-based diet. We were very hungry, I planned to have dinner there. I had lunch super early that day. After starting to drink, when I went to order food, the kitchen informed the bartender that there was no longer any vegan option, nothing, not even the salad!!!As I had been drinking and my stomach was empty and there was nothing to eat, I felt sick and returned home super early. It ruined my night. The party was really fun but I dont think I would come back here again or recommend it to any friends. Whats the point of organizing parties in a restaurant and not having food for customers?!The drinks were good, the bartender was friendly
Super tasty food and drinks, and really nice people. The fried plantains were perfect! We had a lot of fun with karaoke on a Thursday night, with a DJ who rocks at the saxophone. Thanks for the fun time!
I was super pleasantly surprised here! I came without expecting much and the food was so good.Good:- The seafood with tilapia was amazing - I didnt think Id like it as much as I did considering Im not usually a fan of seafood, but the curry sauce + the jolof rice made a combo that I couldnt stop munching on!- Portion sizes were perfect for what I could finish in one sitting- The staff were nice!Bad:- Pretty noisy place, still good for catchups with people- Took some time for the food to arriveOverall I enjoyed the food here a lot, the ambiance not so much but Id come back just to try out something else!
Very underwhelmed by the overall experience. Shrimp wee decent with the curry sauce but it came with white pita which wasn’t even toasted. The main dish I had the Dibi combo with chicken. The chicken was dry but the sauce it came with on the side was good. Also got the side of yassa which was tasteless. Also it had yucca in it which I hate :) overall if you want to go for dinner make sure you’re ready for it to be REALLY LOUD. Some people planted themselves next to me at the bar and started talking at the top of their lungs. I guess it’s more of a club than a restaurant.
Underwhelming, at least for the vegan option. I ordered the Riz Au Cari dish with the Akara and fufu. Unfortunately, the red curry was too salty, fufu was bland and the Akara had an odd aftertaste. It was also quite disappointing to see the small portion size.In addition, the waitress was kind but unfortunately they charged us for an extra drink. We didn’t catch it until we got home. I found this place to be overrated and will not come here again.
Little Baobab is a fun West African Restaurant with live music in the Mission District! They feature local musicians they play songs from around the world. Last night (Wednesday at 8:30pm) they had a live band playing Afro beats and salsa! Lots of people went up to dance. The food was also amazing. We ordered the Chicken Yassa (chicken with caramalized onion), Lamb Dibi Combo (grilled lamb) and Beef Pastelles (fried plantains). The owner, Marco, was super friendly and recommended the best dishes! Our server, Koudous was awesome too. We had a great experience!
Amazing place! Had never tried senegalese food before, so I cant judge authenticity, but the food was really tasty! I got the Mafe (a peanut based stew) with akara (a vegetarian bean fritter) and fufu, it was rich and flavorful. Also tried a bit of my friends Yassa (a caramelized onion stew) that was absolutely delicious as well. Would highly recommend!
Excellent African cuisine; red curry with tofu and jolloff rice is a mainstay on their menu and worth a try. Their drinks menu is straight from heaven. Try their pitchers and their coconut rum; simply amazing and addictive. Very good music and fun vibe in their dance floor. Slow service but no biggie.
This place is insanely good. The Dibi chicken is FANTASTIC and the little baobab cocktail is the best summer (or anytime) drink. I stumbled on this place by accident and have come back so many times. The staff are so friendly and lovely and it’s just the best place for a yummy drink, delicious food and a good time.
I come here often during Friday and Saturday night that is when they open as a club. This is my favorite club in the city by far. The place is PACKED and it can get very hot but music is great (mostly aftobeats, some reggae, some reggaeton) and everyone wants to have fun! As an African person my self, I love the diversity in this place! Drinks are also delicious. I havent tried their food. Wednesday is salsa night. I am attaching also the other activities they have during the week as a picture.
The food is not very flavorful so I am not sure I will recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. The servers are courteous and professional. The best part of this spot is the club. At around 9:30pm, the other side of the restaurant, which is a club, opens. If you have eaten at the restaurant, you do not pay the $10 cover.
We had lots of fun with The Smokin Slice Mojo Band people was dancing the band was full of the Motown sound along with a variation of R B and Rock? music .What a fun night .The food was very delicious West African food my first time ever tasting I will be back
The food was quite good. And while thats the main criteria for a restaurant, its not the only one.We were literally the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived at 6pm and yet somehow it took way too long to get our food. It took 2 hours in total because the service was so ridiculously slow. The water tasted stale, literally like it had been sitting in a plastic container for so long it picked up that flavor.
Food and service were really disappointing. The vibe of this restaurant was off overall. The first thing I noted and found odd was that, outside of the owner, there were no Senegalese or African faces to be found amongst the staff here. After eating here I suspect this is because none would serve this food with any pride.
This is the only West African restaurant I know of in San Francisco and shines above almost any restaurant Ive eaten at in San Francisco. I lived a year in Ghana and while this is not identical to Ghanaian food, as a Senegalese restaurant, it brought me back. Every taste blended perfectly. There is no rush to leave after eating. It may be the best dining experience Ive had in San Francisco and it is a must try experience.
It took about an hour to get our food. The food was decent. Some parts were tasty but overall underwhelming. Very loud restaurant. Sadly we don’t recommend this place.
Sadly not as great as it was at the old location. Feels more like a cheap taqueria setting now - fairly breezy and has lost a lot of the ambience. Good food and drinks (served in disposable plastic cups) but the dining area isn’t at all cozy nor entertaining. Bit of a disappointment compared to 4 years ago
I ordered the yassa meal with fish and it was barely seasoned. It lacked spice, flavor, and was not authentic. Service was fine and maybe its known for nightlife but dont bother with the food.
Love, love, love this place...great vibes, just the right portion sizes, amazing home-cooked style. Owners are so friendly, personally will converse with you, host local talent and art. Great for a date night.
Terrible food.Under seasoned inauthentically African food with clearly an attempt at creating some sort of “nouveau fusion” between West African and “God knows what” type of food. The way the food is cooked and even who they hired as servers - all cater to the “New Mission” nightlife partygoers- Young White Techies. No Black African servers or wait persons were to be found.Awful Awful food..from the appetizers to the entree. If you seriously are seeking West African food - stay clear of this gentrified supported establishment.
The waiter recommended the lamb, it was definitely worth trying, not gamey, delicious. Had to try the fufu, was excellentPlates were a good portion size even though they might not look it. We were all full walking out.
Great place! Good vibes and experience! The food is great, the waitress, a French girl, explained all the dishes with passion to my friends and I.Great service!I definitely recommend the place!
Always good. We have eaten here a few times and stayed for the dancing after. The food is excellent and the wait staff are friendly, but during peak times they may be slow to check in with you at your table. We like this place because it is authentic and not pretentious at all. We got dessert the other night and it was amazing. When we stayed for the dancing the music and DJ were just Ok, but the vibe was awesome with everyone dancing and having fun. Not a poser club feel at all. In fact, if you are someone who likes to go to dance clubs and look at your phone on the dance floor or hangout on the dance floor with a drink in your hand that you spill all over people as you pretend to be into the music and scream at every song (like it is your favorite) without really dancing, please dont come here. Hate to see it get ruined by that.
COME HERE!! you will not regret it. the place is cozy and full of beautiful local art, the staff are friendly and the food is seriously amazing. the portions are just the right size! oh, and the bathrooms are clean and well-maintained, which is a plus during these times. i recommend trying the banana flambé for dessert!
The is my favorite place to go party in San Francisco whenever Im there. They play great reggae and African songs and its always a party inside and its always a party inside. It gets crowded in a good way. The drinks are good. Just an awesome and good vibes SF scene kinda place. I love it.
This is one of our favorite places in the city. Its a bar & restaurant until around 10 pm and then magically turns into a dancing venue. Music is consistently good with African themes sometimes. It gets crowded & you see everyone having a good time, at least we do Everytime! The venue is relatively small & cozy. Service is good.
Delicious ginger tea and fried plantains, but the entrees were just okay and very small portions. The staff was great and very nice.Interesting food and crowd. In the beginning of dinner, this place was teaching dance class in the back and then a cover-charged bar.
I can’t speak for the food, but they do serve amazing drinks. Located in the Castro district, it’s also a great place to to hear authentic African and African-influenced music from Africa and other parts of the world all in one spot. Definitely has a certain vibe to it and a great crowd. Whether you are local or passing through and want to experience something different, you will enjoy yourself.
Great food and a lively atmosphere, especially after dinner when the dancing starts. However the wait staff, and specifically our waitress was terrible. Our group of 8 was seated quickly after arriving for our reservation, however 20 minutes passed before the waitress even introduced herself. Then another 20 minutes before our first drink order and appetizers were taken. When I attempted to get our waitress attention, she nodded and proceeded to walk past our table empty handed , then checked her phone at the register for 10 minutes before finally taking our drink and appetizer order. No check ins while eating, and no attempt to take our plates after we were done until they needed to move the table for dancing.I do not recommend coming. Drinks are pretty expensive. Might be good just to come for the dancing and a drink after your night out.
To start we ordered the feta spinach pastels, were served the meat option and for some reason the waitress (from Toulouse?) took away my beer before it was finished, she couldnt have been more dis interested or apathetic if she tried, all the while the owner sat with his back to the situation...we dropped $90 on dinner for two that was an utter waste of money!.... avoid this place, a sorry effort all round. Will not be back !
I love this place! The food is flavorful and awesome, filled with African flavors and good size portion. At lunch there is an all you can eat buffet with chicken and three different sauces, try them all! You wont be disappointed. If Im ordering off the menu, I like the seafood coco. The juices are also on point. If you like ginger, you will love the juice with ginger in it. If youre into cocktails the sedem is my favorite.
The food here was delicious. The curried shrimp appetizer was delightful, fried plantains cooked to perfection. Good service. Really enjoyed the Tatu margarita as well. Will be back!
Super tasty food. Service very accommodating for our large group and the purple sangria tasting drink was refreshing. Favorite dish was the coconut fish (dont recall the name, we ordered family style). The plantains were awesome too!Unfortunately, during our visit one of our friends had an allergic reaction (likely accidental cross contamination of seafood within our table), but the waiters and restaurant owner himself were very helpful and understanding and made sure everything was OK for us until he saw them off to get our friend treated.
This place has been a family favorite for years every time we stop by in SF. I came with a group of friends and I was beyond impressed with the service because of the language barrier. But the waiters were fantastic. We ordered a bunch of dishes and I got the platter of veggies. I know that the last time I was here, I had some Doro wot but now that Im a vegan, it was even better. Although the taste was alittle different than what I was used to tasting before, no complains yall! Adding the brebre and some other spices made the whole dish 10x better.
The Sengalese food here is great. The lamb is tender the chicken is juicy. I like to get the wraps that they service during lunch, but you cant go wrong with the entrees with rice and potatoes either. Its a lively place with entertainment. I believe on weekends, they open up the dance floor and have a DJ. Fun spot to check out.
This place has a cozy environment. Staff are very friendly. Music is great. Some of the best house tunes I have heard. There was a guy playing a drum now and then. Food was simply delicious.I would come back to USA just to come to this restaurant again. You have me a good start to my holiday. Thank you guys
This is an amazing place. Step in for a positive experience. Super friendly staff, great venue to entertain a small group or large group located in the mission.
I havent tried their food yet, but I will! They run other interesting events like jazz nights or language exchanges 😁😁
Went to hear the music, which was really fun. After hours crowd, cool vibe, dancing. The cocktails? Awful. The service? Slow.I have heard that the food is great, so will definitely be back to try it. But might just bring bottled water.
Came here for a birthday dinner. Cool little hidden gem in the Mission. There is plenty of sitting room for larger parties. The staff is friendly and helpful. They also have these huge margarita pitchers you can get. I would check one of those out.The food was tasty too.
Same music every time. Also, they seem to have lost focus.. one second, its Afro music, another, its Indian, another, Spanish, another, its Hip Hop,... Seems to me like they have also become a bit too comfortable being that they are the only African club in San Francisco. Give them two to five years and they will have big competition. Great place to meet beautiful people though.
A restaurant by day, and a dance club by night. This little place gets packed during the weekend nights with people who just want to have fun!The music - idk what it is. It is not edm not top40 not hip hop. But it is fun.The drinks are fine - nothing special. But one thing is that they charge $15-20 cover charge for everyone. No exceptions. Fun but unsure if its worth all that, and sometimes a wait too. It also gets really crowded and packed, so you are forced to have no personal bubble at any point in the club. Oh, and there are two bathrooms with a min 20 min wait it seems.
I just had the tilapia taco plate and it was amazing. The sauce was perfectly spicy, the fish and onion combo was delicious and filling with a small side of caramelized plantain and some vinegary greens on the plate, very nice balance of flavors. So yummy! Will be back for more. Thank you, Koudous! (I hope I spelled it right). 😀The cocktails here are also worth trying, my favorite is the one with hibiscus. Nice music here and outdoor seating available.
I enjoyed the unique decor of the restaurant, the novelty of trying out African cuisine and the (baffling) interpretive dance show. My food came out only lukewarm and appeared to be unevenly cooked and I could tell I was serviced differently than a regular. Fun experience!
Interesting and eclectic spot with delicious food, warm and attentive service, and good value for money at happy hour ($25 for a cocktail, an appetizer and an entree). Special shout out to Koudous, who served us. I highly recommend the gambas starter in its wonderfully seasoned and earthy sauce. I also particularly liked the yassa entree which had caramelized onions, lemon and mustard - it really complemented the succulent chicken well. We went for an early dinner and it was relatively quiet then but the place apparently comes alive at night with live music and the dance floor. Too bad that this place is closing down soon.
Not actual Senegalese food. I’m not sure why the dibi isn’t made the way Senegalese people make it. For that price it was not filling or appetizing. Also Senegal is known for authentic jollof rice and that was not it. The portions are so small and pricey. Two Fatayas for 12 dollars!!
Came here with a few people and we now have stomach aches and food poisoning symptoms. I would say that the portions are too small for the price and the food isn’t authentic to Senegal.
Wednesday nights feature salsa dance and they are the best Cuban salsa nights in the Bay Area (trust me, Ive looked). It can get crowded but the bar tenders are nice, the music is energetic, and the community of dancers are very welcoming to newbies and experienced dancers alike. A fun night out whether you come once or every week.
One of my favorites in SF! Delicious Senegalese restaurant by day, african-style nightclub by night. I really like their DJ nights. The music is always great and the vibe is friendly and full of fun dancing. Its hard to find a place this good for dancing in SF.
The food and prices are good. They do fried plantains with a yogurt tamarind sauce (which is AWESOME).The cocktails were mostly juice. The food came out relatively quickly, but after that, it took forever for the waiter to pick up my credit card and a second eternity to get the card back.
Great place with good vibes, the Afrobeat nights are the best in the city! The food is great, the atmosphere is fun and joyful !I highly recommend it.
Attended open mic night 8-13-16. Attracted many performers of varying talents, hosts were energetic and professional, and venue functioned well. My average rating is based on the atmosphere. Im personally not a fan of the hippy/hipster culture that the place seemed to exude.
Food and drinks were okay. The food was around $15/plate and my table got a large pitcher (or pitchers) of their margaritas.I went for dinner with a big group (around 14 people) and the service was terrible. They took forever to take our order for appetizers, and then took forever to take our service for entrees. In fact, they neglected two people out of our group when they were going around asking for entree choices! We didnt stay for dancing (which I hear is what theyre known for) but I wouldnt come back here.TIP: the plantains were good!
Good bar-restaurant with interesting house-made cocktails (ginger margarita). Turns into a dance floor after 10:00. Nice place to dance, I loved the music, but gets a bit too crowded on the weekend.
One of my go-to places for a gathering. Yummy Senegalese food, fantastic tropical drinks, warm staff, laid-back atmosphere. At 10pm the weekend they clear out the main floor and the place becomes a dance floor where DJs spin Caribbean and African hip hop, reggae, and dancehall. Really great vibe and affordable prices. The crowd here is usually pretty chill as well and people here really know how to dance!
Great food! Other than the fried plantains that were too sweet to eatGreat music!
Im reviewing the nightclub. A $10 cover is ridiculous. It was packed like sardines in a can. Certainly not worth it. We were in and out in 5 minutes. I dont understand the hype. Lady taking the cover was rude. Id avoid this spot. El Rio is a much better alternative.
Went here for a friends birthday party on a Saturday night. At 10:00pm there was a line of 50 people to get in, and it took 20 minutes for us to get inside. Hot, sweaty, and crowded. Lots of different kinds of people. Great people watching. The music system shut down at one point, and it took 3 minutes or so for them to start it up again. The lights came on at 1:20, but then they shut them off again a few minutes later. The DJ said last song, but then they played five more songs.
I love dancing here because its energetic, cozy, and fun. And, for the most part, people respect each other and let everyone dance in joyous peace. Interesting mix of types of music they will host too. Always a treat!
Nice restaurant bar, with excellent African food. Some dishes are found nowhere else in SF.Some days there is live music, outdoor parklet seating, and lots of friendly people! Not to be missed.
OMG this place ROCKS!!! Went and saw Michael Franti there last month and loved it! The flavored rums are to die for! Cant wait to go in and try the wonderful food Ive heard about! Small dance floor but somehow, theres room for everyone! The bartenders are half the show! They pour heavy and dance the night away enjoying their time almost as much as their patrons.
By day a restaurant bar with outside seating on the sidewalk and by night turns into a jammed music and dance venue. My review is of the restaurant-bar. The West African food is very yummy and not easy to find even in San Francisco in 2014, but what makes this a winning restaurant are the folks who run it--they are among the very nicest and genuinely nice people you will ever be privileged to meet. They also have Kenyan beers in the bottle--who can pass that up, and cocktails.
Service was flaky. Elements of impatience, confusion, etc. Food was average! The flamenco on the evening (second Saturday of every month) made it more tolerable. We were moved from a very small table (for 3 of us) to a bigger table that could at least fit 2 big plates. Our server seemed to care less and even rudely asked one of us to move to let her pass. This after one of them place the chair there. Then after the check payment I was waiting for my card to be returned and I had one staff member come and say, They need the table in 5 min. I responded that I was waiting for my card, which took them a while 10 min (for heaven knows what reason). Outside of live performances i dont see any incentive to go back.
Lovely little bar and dancing space. I have never been here for food so cant comment on it. But Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the lightly lit bar area is really wonderful and chill. Perfect spot.
Amazing place to dance! Good music! They have a good Brazilian Music there! The new space its amazing for dancing!
The customer service was great! The 2 stars is for the Wait staff. The lack of 3 stars is for the food it is not truly Senegalese at all. It should be called a senegalese inspired restaurant. If you think you are eating authentic Senegalese food, you are not. It is very very very americanized, it was not flavorful. Very nice atmosphere and customer service though.I know this because my husband is Senegalese, I have been to Senegal, and have been to authentic Senegalese restaurants in New York as well.
I love the place!Waitresses are great and explain the Menu.Lots of vegan and vegetarian options!I highly recommend the place!
We visited Kenya a while back and and left our hearts there, this place had a similar vibe to Kenya and Zanzibar but the is food is from Senegal. The meals we had were delicious, drinks great, great music set the mood and the employees were friendly. It helped us get our Africa fix. We will be back.
The food is very good. Portions are on the smaller side though.
Great little place for African food and I really appreciate that they have interesting non-alcoholic drinks – not just soda or plain juice. The people are vibrant and friendly and the dancing is crowded, sweaty, and fun!
This place is utterly awful. The food was cold and lacked authenticity. The service was dismal and the ambience is so loud you can’t even hear each other talk. I won’t be back.
Service was good and the food was amazing!! I suggest the appetizer of beef stuffed pastry and the mafe with lamb!! It was wonderful!! Hibiscus margarita was good but a little sweet, next time Ill order the ginger for extra spice!
No line at Bissap Baobab?!?!?! Unimaginable! Too good to be true!Considering how crazy the crowds get for the San Francisco location, we were truly surprised to see the Oakland location pretty empty around dinner time on a week day. They are right across the street from hipster Abura-Ya, which is often pretty well trafficked, so still mind-boggled, but hey! No wait for great food? Well take it.Undiscovered so far, but some of the friendliest wait staff youll ever meet and great quality food. Good happy hour too--get the rums! Very tasty. Theyd run out of the berry one but the coco one was good. Got the tilapia and a chicken dish and checked in for some plantains. Delicious! Come quick so they stick around! :)
This place is just a quintessential SF mission restaurant. They have live music, it is funky, the food is west african (virtually impossible to find something similar anywhere in the US) and the prices are fair.food: B+service: Bambiance: Afavorite dishes: chicken yassa, shrimp, plantains for dessert, ginger/tamarind/whiskey drink
A little bit pricey for the serving sizes. But it was excellent. Super good food. Great atmosphere. The dance parties are a lot of fun too.
Not much to compare this to, as there arent many African places in SF (apart from Ethiopian). Food is extremely good and very approachable even for less-adventurous eaters. However, the quantity is small given the price -- especially considering that a large portion of the meal is salad (cheap) and couscous (cheaper).
Great music good food service was good if you go to the bar
Delicious vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes! We had vegan Mafé and vegan Yassa as main dishes. When you get the dishes it looks like there are chunks of meat. When you press on the chunks they have the consistency of bread. But theyre not meat or bread. Theyre delicious pieces of akkara / acara -- spiced vegan and gluten-free black-eyed pea fritters. So good! We also had Alloko (plantains) with homemade tamarind yogurt sauce (the sauce was the only non-vegan item) and we had the homemade ginger pineapple drinks. What a feast! It was all so delicious, but Little Baobabs Yassa is the dish that will bring me back again and again. Heavenly!
I enjoyed this place for the performance and bar area, but I cant recommend the food portion unfortunately. The portions were quite small, and the service was slow and scattered. I would not come here again for a main meal, but I would certainly be back for small bites and a drink.
This was my first time having Senegalese food which turned out to be a delicious and unique cuisine. If I had to describe it, I might put it half way between Caribbean and Indian, if that makes any sense. Pro-tip: ask for the habanero sauce. It deliciously bumps everything to an 11!
Great music and people on a Saturday night! If youre looking for a great dance floor where youre not smothered by others but still immersed, this is the place. There was a cover to get in though.
The food here is *great* and they have a tasty lunch buffet as well. Really laid back vibe with a lot of love put into the decorations and music. Really nice.
Great food. Comida muy apetitiba. Great customer service. Thank you guys.Only thing please update your new pictures location. Easy to find you online.
Great for take-out! The Dibi wrap with lamb was moist and delicious. Also was curious to try their house-made energy drinks - the Akhenation Super Green was outstanding.
Loved this place .. If you are looking for a fun and lovely night in San Francisco you wont go wrong here .. The vibe is amazing . Only problem is that it sometimes get so packed that there is like little space. Best Afrobeat in the City and good drinks.
If youre looking for true Senegalese food- this is not it. The only things that were authentically Senegalese is the Yassa and Dibi. Those were pretty good, but the menu is limited and I was sorely disappointed. Wheres the thieboudienne?!?!? Also no chef is actually Senegalese so...If you expecting some fusion food- this place is pretty good.
Nothing like it in Oakland. Friendly, quick, tasty, and ended up being a great late night spot. If you eat lamb, eat lb, because it was some the most tender, fantastic meat I can ever remember nomming on.
Just back from a Cuba night at Little Baobab with really excellent food and music. The owners 94-year old artist mother holds court in a high-backed armchair, her work hung on the walls. A great hangout offering a space for progressive events coupled with a diversity in the old Mission tradition.
This is the best place in San Francisco to dance, hands down. Saturday nights are amazing. Cover ranges from $0-10 cash. Bar accepts credit.
Fun, African dance atmosphere on Saturday nights. Not my favorite type of music, but the energy is good. Im curious to try their food sometime.
There isnt a better place to dance in the city on a Saturday night. The best afrocaribbean, reggae and latin music, all in the company of people who are there to have a good time tearing it up. There are a few African guys who are incredible to watch cut a rug doing the Azonto and other dances from back home. Highest praise, must go.
Wednesday salsa night are a great option! Drinks and food are good. It seems they are closing the place soon, so hurry up and enjoy it!
Service was a bit slow, but the major downside was that they ran out of vegetarian options during our stay. The server was very apologetic and accommodating, though, which meant a lot to us.
Good was average, service was very slow.
Best Lil hidden gem. I had the gambas appetizer n Yuka fries. The gambas was like heaven in my mouth. Drinks where perfect. Definitely my new favorite spot for drinks and food.
Unique place to grab some dinner at fold out tables, then they come down and a small but hopping dance party appears. Carpets and rugs line the ceilings. Really cool vibe all around.
Tasty eats!!! Definitely come during lunch and get the buffet. It was $12 when I went, left stuffed! The yassa is great, I mix it with the coconut sauce too.
Fantastic food at an affordable price. The staff is also very friendly. Really enjoy coming here for dine in or take out.
Genuinely an awesome experience! The people are great, the music is incredible and the service is impeccable. I 10/10 recommend.
Its a really nice place to go, but unfortunately one of my friends lost her phone there, so if anybody found it, it would be really nice if she could get it back. Its a light Blue Samsung with a cover that shows a sunset.
Had the lunch buffet. Buffet was very meager and very expensive (including tax, $16.33). Didnt get a server during the time I was there so didnt even get a glass of water. Lots of better places for cheaper.
Great music, awesome diverse crowd. The classic baobab cocktail is really great. But I wouldnt recommend more than two unless youre really going ham.
I just had four baked drumsticks in a peanut sauce. Have half cup of rice. Just heaven.Fast food never again. Cheap, healthy and close to work. Im diffiently going to support
One of my favorite casual dining spots in San Francisco. Great vegitarian items. I love their coconut rum cocktail in particular.
Its a fun place to go for drinks and a bite. There isnt a lot of African food in SF, so that is really refreshing. The staff is awesome
Great food , great service.. Best food in the east bay! Great happy hour menu as well. Didnt even know what Senegalese food was.. But now Im glad I do
They are super nice here and are trying their best but the service was pretty slow. We were going to get dessert but it never came so we just cancelled and got the check. The food is very delicious though.
First time experiencing Senegalese cuisine.I had Cheebu Jen. A traditional dish only made on the weekends.Curried tilapia, jollof rice with carrots and cabbage. Delicious. Only gripe is the tilapia had toooo many bones. You couldnt enjoy the taste because your being stabbed in the gums every bite.thats why i give 4 stars Other than that..... It was tasty. For a cocktail, i had the Fleur- whiskey, tamarind and ginger. Yuuuuum.
Pretty good African food that seemed relatively healthy, equally tasty dessert (that was not so healthy), and a free jazz jam to observe or join on the first Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9. A real treat!
Food is great and the house special drink made with hibiscus is delicious. Try the food, then stick around for a night of dancing. Music and crowd are like nothing else in SF.
Delicious food. Fun events. Service a little slow, but worth the wait. Happy hour specials are great!
Delicioso food and wonderful service! Atmosphere is great for having live music and dancing 💃🏾 🎶 😀
Ooooo man if you want to get down get down here to Bissap. Never been to the restaurant, so cant vouch for the food, but if its as good as the boodypoppin beats they blast through this joint then youre gonna be lickin your fingers and your plate and your silverware. After that youlre gonna look at the napkins that have some of the food residue on that and youre gonna eat that too.
I have never been here to eat, although I have heard the food is great. At night, it turns into a dance club and the music is some of the best in the city!
I generally get the chicken plate. It always tasty. Try the coconut rum if youre in the mood for a cocktail. The wait staff always brighten my day.
Anything afro + latin@ pops here! Timba on Wednesdays is my personal favorite, but all the other nights do not disappoint. Descent bar and pretty tasty food.
Salsa dancing every Wednesday with good music. If you are into Salsa dancing, this is a must in SF. The staff is also super friendly.
Liked the place. Service was fast although few of drinks were served late. Food was good. Nice place for music. Enjoyed jamming.
The food here is genuine soul food. You leave feeling both satisfied and contented. Its so very tasty and the look of the place is awesome.
FOOD - 5 stars...comfort food rarely resonates as much as it does hereAMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...quite a comfortable vibe here with minimal fussSERVICE - 4.5 stars...cordial without being annoyingTOTAL - 5 stars...a genuine winner that somehow slips under the radar in the Mission
Little Baobab cocktail was delic! I had the curry chicken dish w plantains. Divine! I love this food and the ambience. The bathrooms were very dark and shady but just ignore that.
Solid club at night, $10 cover on Saturdays, music good, but the big problem is the lack of bathrooms, which leads to ridiculous wait times for them, even for a club when you expect it to be long already
We come her every time were in San Francisco! We especially love the Advocate Creole and Aloko (fried plantain) appetizers, but everything is delicious.
An absolutely amazing place to bring friends to and to make new friends. Safe and fun little West Africa :)! And the MUSIC, makes you travel to different countries and cultures.
Thanks for great gathering place
I love this place. The vibe. The food. The music. The staff. Marco is the best :-)
Unique! Delicious food. Gotta go back when they have live music. But even without, it was a fun experience.
Our experience was not good at all! We had expected to eat Senegalese food, what we got was something else!!! I dont think we will ever go or recommend it to anyone!
Went for the flamenco show. One of the best around, food was very good. My first time trying African food, and I would go back
I love it! Im going to there every wednesday to dance Salsa and on the weekend is gret too!! one of the best place in San francisco
An amazing group of dancers are here almost every night, from every possible country. Much of the folks that come through are from the hospitality industry.
Cheap eats, funky space. Good if youre 20 something. I am not:) food was okay, not a lot of spice for this type of food
Bissap Baobab should be an icon by now in the bay area. Plates are easy to eat and nice african vibes. My only knock on Bissap is that as soon as they open in Oakland they started charging for the party before even fully establishing themselves. As a result of them charging, Layover started to charge for an entrance fee after 10PM. But I will always go to Bissap for a quick bite. I never been disappointed in that aspect. I will always support black business regardless. But Mad big up to bissap for expanding to the east bay.
Amazing drinks, food, music and service! The lamb Afro tacos with the house hot sauce will be what I come back for
The food was good. something new for me but really enjoyed it.
Delicious, cocunut rum coctail is amazing. Prices are a little high even for SF for portion sizes.
The food here is amazing. I have had almost every dish and was never disappointed. I highly recommend the plantain appetizer.
Came for dancing on a Saturday night and had an amazing time. It is very hot inside so dress accordingly.
Diverse music, diverse people, great dancing, what more could you want. It gets a little hot and crowded but thats how you know its good
Really good food and the live music and performance dancing was pretty cool when we went.
Absolutely delicious food. Great happy hour specials - appetizer, entree, and drink for $20.
Amazing venue with unique vibe. Its nothing fancy but they have live salsa dancing and they host a few interest groups.
Truly enjoyed myself. Turns into a club after a certain time which was a fun surprise. The food was delicious.
Great flavor for authentic meals! Dieudonne was warmly professional and made sure we had an excellent experience
Great food and fun! I have so many years of fond memories of live performances and great music at Baobab!
This is a great place to dance! West african music playing all night and very interesting drinks.
We went fir dancing and had a really fun time! The people are so nice!!!
Super homey and hearty food. Servers are always friendly. Try their lunch buffet for $12
Amazingly delicious food and great drinks. Very fun dancing afterwards!
I had ordered lamb. It was very full and blend. The hibicus drink was strong but nice.
The best African night clubs ♣ in San Francisco. Come and check it out, mixed music coupe decaler
Really liked it! Very original, solid big portions of tasty food. Friendly service.
Delicious Senegalese food and nice atmosphere often with some good sounding, unique live music.
So glad theyre back in a full-size space! The neighborhood has missed them for so many years!
Great salsa night, and Spanish meetup
The ambiance is very relaxed with good music and great food and drinks.. Definitely will go back..
Gr8 Service & Customer Service.Pleasant Staff with the most Beautiful Smile.I will definitely refer someone to this place.
Came here for the last time...they have an already small menu sitting outside but the trick is, they only ever have 2-3 available items. Go elsewhere in SF
Wednesday nights are my favorite. They have Cuban salsa playing until 1-2am.
Dance your stress away with world music. If you from outside the US and miss home, the dj will play some of your local songs
Love this place. Great food. Good prices. Fun music events.
Loved the food, the waiters were great and super friendly. I had a great time.
This place is amazing. Incredible music, incredible community, incredible cocktails.
Came for lunch: great, prompt service; good food (had black eyed peas and tofu cakes).
Great place to go out dancing. They usually play African Dance music.
Steamy, energetic Senegalese nightlife. Come with friends and watch your belongings, as they have had some problem with crime recently...
Amazing Senagalese food. Soooo delicious and the servers are very helpful in helping you select dishes.
Food is sooooo good! Highly recommend the red curry. Great atmosphere.
Best bar in San Francisco is back!!! Bigger and better than ever! 🍻
Surprisingly large dance floor with great music. Awesome club scene on Saturdays.
