The Continental Bar Lounge & Patio

We showed up after a concert on saturday. Originally we were headed to Aura, but with the line outside we just decided to check out other spots. We came across this dope spot, overall I give it a 10/10. Bar tenders were super cool, you just have to be human and interact a little/have a good laugh. First time and wont be my last whenever in town

Showed up at 10pm on a Friday. The place looked hopping. The bouncer at the front was talking to someone, took one look at me and my husband and told us the bar was closed then went back to his important conversation. It was very disrespectful and I was honestly quite offended. I’ve never been treated that way before. Take your service elsewhere, they obviously don’t want it

I know the owner. Really approachable and welcoming guy. Hires good staff. Great ambiance and terrific music!

If the drinks werent so good, I would have given this place a ⭐⭐. The bartender treated me very poorly. The male next to me got great service. I had the Lolita which was delicious. Their paloma moderate. Music inside was great.

Showed up on a Sunday night for a friends birthday evening. It was dead, which in a bar isnt a bad thing. This bar has some class and original artwork and definitive atmosphere. The crowd was very pleasant as well as the staff and struck up intelligent and friendly conversation. The bartender actually knew how to make a drink too.

The gin and tonic was too weak. Anyway it was a pretty friendly crowd. Even the bouncers were very courteous when he told us the table was reserved. The music had a techno/disco beat on a Saturday night.

The service was terrible, the bartender with a dark beard and hair was also terrible. I waited at the bar for 15 minutes until he approached me and since they don’t give any menu, I didn’t know what cocktails they had, I asked him to make Two cocktails of his choice, where he looked at me menacingly and left to serve other guys, left me alone in an awkward position, I went up to my boyfriend and asked him to take me a cocktail. Since I didn’t want to go there anymore, the cocktail tasted terrible, I asked to buy another one - it was no better. we spent money on nothing. so guys dont buy any cocktails from them, they are terrible, the atmosphere itself was normal, the music was uninteresting and the same. the female board tender also never smiled and was very rude, the most important thing in business is service and if you serve guys like that, no one will come to you and you need to fire the Bartender because he doesn’t know how to behave with clients and it gives you such a feeling that you owe him something and you didn’t come to rest

Atmosphere is always chill. Comfortable patio area in back to sit when not dancing.Before covid in 2020 I had some tacos back there that were delish but haven’t seen that being available again.

Listennnn!!!!!!!!!!!!! So if u are from Europe zone and u are looking for rave this is the best place for raving in San Jose area. U gonna like music after 11pm for sure. DJ plays melodic techno music and atmosphere is good as well !!! If u are between this bar/club and pure nightclub this is better option if there is no good event in pure nightclub.

The best place Ive been in years.Ive been in the hospitality industry for decades.I went the previous Tuesday evening and was blown away by the professional staff the ambience which is a larger version of my bedroom living room etc same color scheme same art scheme. The fellow patrons were so cool.The music was spot on.Im a light person as well, and the lighting was just perfect especially on the dance floor.I have nothing but excellent reviews for every aspect of this little gem.

Great place to let loose and dance. Good social environment. Lots of mix drinks clean floors and tables. The music is a little loud. Stays open till 130 am. No dress code or cover charge. Great for a taste of the night life.

Poor and expensive service, if you’re not ordering beer then drinks are not recommended, we had margaritas, mojito and Paloma none of them were not even close to decent. Music was good and atmosphere too but died down by little after midnight. We’ll not visit again

This is a beautiful bar and the staff was very attentive! They were quick to take orders and make sure the facilities were kept clean. If a glass was dropped, they were very quick to clean up everything. They have a good open area for folks to hang out and tables along the side to allow for more intimate settings. I was able to use a stool to sit among our crowd who hung out in the more common area. It was a very enjoyable time here.

Tough spot to attend... if Jonathan R. is your bartender, best of luck with your night. An absolute damper on an evening.Servicing a night scene isnt easy by any means, but witnessing this guy not having the patience for someone with mental health struggles was tough one to watch. That was rough to witnessNot loving the fact I have give a single star, just to comment. The guy, nor the establishment, doesnt deserve a job for his actions.

Ive only recently been but the vibes were great. People werent snobs and were pretty polite to me and my friends. There was someone constantly cleaning tables which was nice to see. The outdoor patio was also really nice incase someone needed air but didnt want to step outside. The bathrooms were also very clean.

Excellent music!!!!! Loved the band!!!! People around me mentioned it was the best time they ever had there. The drinks were made perfectly. The bartender was very courteous and friendly. Best vodka gimlet I ever tried. Loved the ambiance of this place. Perfect evening! I thank you. Look forward to going back again.

This is the BEST place in SJ!! No other one compares. They have amazing music, great drinks and the best space. If you’re there to dance, there’s a dance floor with a dj playing the best house music. If you’re in the mood to hang out with friends and chill there is a cool and unique patio with a massive mural (try to guess who’s on the mural!!! hint-it’s not Selena :)) all of their staff is so so friendly and ALWAYS make your day/night better with their positive attitude. Especially Jose (who is now a great dj too!) and Travis - the best bartender. I’ve lived in San Jose for 5 years and only discovered this place last year, can’t believe more people don’t know about it. If you’re in the area I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. It usually gets busy after 10-11pm.

There’s a woman security with short hair who polices conversations. She intervened into my convo with no justification other than to assert herself. The people I was talking with simply said “no, we’re good” however the security took an aggressive tone to say “no, leave the bar!” during a respectful tamed interaction. It made no sense and ruined our whole night. I come here often and never experience that out of the blue.Please control your aggressive staff. Their job is not to hit on people at the bar but to look for serious danger. Very sad..

Espresso martini was not what I was expecting. It was mostly all baileys, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It was not like that clear black espresso with foam on top.

Good happy hour deals (regular prices a bit expensive, in particular cocktails). Nice chill out area

Great place to go for a night out with a date or with some friends - Ive done both. If you come on a night when its not too crowded they have great group sitting areas. Drinks are really well done and the staff is nice. Theres also always a live dj playing and I really enjoy the music.

A good place to visit if you wanna dance to house music. The dancefloor quite spacious, and I suspect the only reason its not more popular is the distance from the rest of the bars downtown.

The decor and ambiance is fantastic. The service was mediocre. They didnt seem to care whether we stayed or left and at 730pm on a Saturday night they acted like they were trying to close. Love the place though. Its quiet and you can actually hear when someone talks to you!

Sweet spot. Recently visited for the first time and I had a blast. They have lots of bartenders and getting a drink is not as long as most bars in the area. There is good seating areas inside and out. Perfect for small or large groups. Definitely coming back.

Great bar in downtown. Lovely crowd and nice friendly staff. Seating can be a challenge on busy nights as is the case in many bars. A handful of craft beers are always available. No private lot so its downtown parking only.

UPDATE: I heard that the owner is going to get a dimmer, so Ive change my rating from a 2 to a 4, however if this doesnt change I will update this review again.I use to frequent this club twice a week until I saw the new neon sign artwork last week. Its beautiful and kudos to the artist, however its so bright that it ruins the ambiance of the club. When I go to dance I go to get lost, not be in the spotlight. If they would put a filter over it to darken the sign I would be happy to go back to dance. For now Ill have to find another place to dance which is sad because I really loved this place and the amazing DJs.

This used to be Brix and before that it was another gay bar, cant remember the name. Each time the new owners have invested in upgrades. I like the benches at the garage door window. They did have some weird no sports attire dress code. Im not a fan of dress codes! Its a good place for a couple of afternoon weekend drinks. There was some cool hip hop dancing in the back patio one night. Ive been there about three times.

Came here for an organized #TipsyTuesday happy hour event and the bar was about 1/2 prepared for what was about to come. Although we did get our drinks at the advertised price the food offerings didnt seem to geared to a snack/bar setting and were not specials at all. The bartenders were both friendly (thankfully they called for back up) and the environment was great.Wasnt bad, wasnt amazing. Depending on the crowd I might return.

Me and my brother went for the first time and met a ton of new people who were all extremely lovely.

HORRIBLE service here. I opened a tab, and they required not just to swipe my credit card, but to also hold onto my ID with it. At the end of the night, everyone was ushered out the door so abrubtly that i wasnt given a chance to close my tab. I was supposed to fly out of town the next day, and I could NOT, as the bar still had my only ID and my credit card. I tryed calling the bar, nobody answered and i left a message on the machine. I EVEN tried calling the bars booking agent and again...no answer but I left a message. I then took a taxi from my hotel in Milpitas to the bar to talk to someone...but when i got there the bar was closed. This happened every day for a whole week, during which I not only missed my non-refundable flight but i had to pay out of pocket to stay in the expensive hotel my company had put me up in because they were the only hotel that already had my ID and credit card on file. After hotel, food, and transportation all the way to and from San Jose attempting to recover my ID and Card for an entire week, I easily blew my last $1500, PLUS lost the money I had spent on purchasing my ticket, which brought my total losses to almost 2.5k. The establishment never updated any of their media to reflect their new hours of operation, nor did they change the voice-mail message to the bar to inform anyone of new hours, which in itself would have saved me ALOT of money. Drinks were overpriced and lacked quality. The entire staff lacked any sort of accountability for their blatant unprofessionalism, and unless your a native person of latin decent, you get treated like a dollar sign and a nuisance, instead of like a welcomed patron. I dont see this place staying open for too long if under the same management. SHAMEFUL , and unprofessional with a very unaccepting or accommodating atmosphere. I would NEVER go back, and I would not recommend even my worst enemies to patronize this place. Horrid!

Spacious, comfortable. Love the big open landscape windows. Theyve got a good range of mixed drinks and beers on tap. Conveniently located in downtown. Great bang for your buck.

One of my fav places to frequent in downtown. Great bartenders, better drinks and hands down the best atmosphere at any bar on First St. Love Shannon, all the security and the best part is the tacos and quesadillas served late night in weekends in the back.Great back area with great laps in the winter and a huge projector that everyone ignores cause they are having fun. Small fire pits to sit around for a great girls or date night out.Definitely looking to become a Continental regular. Great music almost every night of the week!

This place is a great addition to downtown San jose. It is more on the contemporary side. It has a more mature crowd and not a dance floor kind of a bar. Very friendly staff and the drinks are pretty good. If you have outgrown the tres gringos type young people party atmosphere, then this is the right place for a night out with friends.

A very ambient atmosphere full of space and wall to wall sound . The patio is tranquil with plenty of seating to accommodate the guest . This was my first and definitely not my last time . I was very surprised to discover and experience a lounge specializing in the house music set that is right here in my local town in San Jose , California. Who would ever thought I can house vibe local and not necessarily needing to travel to San Francisco ! I’ll be back 4ReaL !!!!

A very cool, great-looking bar. This place has soul!We only had beers but it was still a pleasure to look at the bartender preparing cocktails and drinks. She was an artist!I can highly recommend this venue!

I love the atmosphere! The bar tenders are freindly and the DJs never dissapoint. Its one of the few night life establishments I feel safe going to bu myself because I know I will have a great time and meet awesome people who came to dance and mingle.

This bar is a great place to go dancing. It has a huge outdoor patio with gas fireplaces. The drinks are a little bit expensive. So if youre on the budget I will go right next door to Blue Chips and get some cheap drinks then head on down to Continental.

It was a slightly slow evening, but I was impressed by the service given.. Im honestly going to try and get there again soon.

Great place if you like to pay cover for no reason.Was taken advantage by the doorman, stated 5$ to get into an empty place.I was visiting SJ for the night abd would not argue, but cant say i appreciate the dishonest behavior at the entrance.Inside the place is ok, an indoor patio and some recent flat pop music make the chunky atmosphere complete.In DC wed call this a kids place, hope they learn and improve.Next time in in SJ this one is not going to be on my shortlist.

We stopped by for the first time a couple of Saturdays ago around 6:30 pm. We waited for 10-15 minutes (3 of us at a table, 1 of us taking turns waiting at the bar). There was one bartender on duty. I am a very patient person - Im also a bartender and knew she was busy. HOWEVER, eye contact and a greeting goes a long way. We decided to leave after waiting that long without so much as a Ill be right with you or acknowledgement. The place has a cool vibe but I get frustrated when I experience bad service.

Mediocre run of the mill cocktails, the Craft beer menu is nothing but Miller Coors macro.+2 stars for ambience and nice decor. Love the bar seats.Music was decent.Ill never come here again unless a person I really like asks me to, but just because mediocre isnt my style.

Bartender was super friendly. I wasnt that impressed with the drink menu. But I appreciated the cleanliness and attentiveness of the staff. I would come back if they made a better cocktail menu.

A well known downtown watering hole=bar that specializes in old standards to original cocktails from scratch. Its a meeting place for older mature adults with dark cozy atmosphere and DJ playing low beat background music.The back of house is enclosed covered outside area has back bar with gas fireplaces & fresh air!

The neon equality sign plastered over the wall-papered cross next to the deer skull and tribal head all make for a one of a kind aesthetic. Its like every hipster trend from the past decade stacked on top each other to create a uniquely bay area feel. Still not sure if it was a good time or not

Been coming here for 3 years. Cool spot. Good drinks. But recently they have been trying to charge at the door, even on Monday nights $5. Its a Bar, you make money at the bar!Im not going to PAY to go in and PAY for drinks. They will get double pay for no reason. Thats a rip off.Push to charge $10. Is crazy. Fail

Good DJs in the evenings. Drink quality is a little inconsistent, especially on weekends but its a little understandable since its pretty crowded. Overall nice venue.

Went there on a Friday night. The music wasnt that great and the drinks didnt have a good flavor, either too watered down or bitter.

It didnt exist. Lol it was a chain link fence under construction. The neighborhood was deserted except for the couple homeless people around. Dont waste your time.

This place is really nice, not too loud so you can actually talk and hear the purple youre with. Cant tell you how the drinks are, but the club soda its cold and bubbly - theyll even put lime in it if you ask!

DJ was playing beats from 80s. Same tempo same pattern with default sounds comes with DJ software. 😑 And additionally, guys at door asks for 20$ entry charge. Good for drinks but dont ruin night if you want to dance.

Few will remember D.B. Coppers in Downtown San Jose, this is the reincarnation and yes sometimes Chuck Oliver can be seen there! Industrial Chique Interior, quaint outdoor space, adequate dance floor. Drinks are great with generous pours. Well staffed bar. Like the old DB Coopers The Continental has a great mix of customers which adds to the fun, safe and friendly vibe /atmosphere where all are welcome. Quality DJs spin amazing sets. This is a must visit !

A true bar in the sense that there is a full liquor bar but no food menu. Super nice comfortable seating space. Not many servers so you’ll need to get up and get your own drink if you’ve chosen a table seat over the bar.

Continental Bar doesnt look like much from the outside, but its easily found its way to one of the spaces on my favorite bars list. From the random DJs playing decently good music, to the dark atmosphere, a couple of sofas for extra comfy lounging, some tables with wait service, lots of standing (or dancing) room, the open-wall window, to the friendly bartenders. This place is *almost* divey, but not quite. In fact, its got a strangely perfect blend of a divey/modern feel that you dont usually find in the area. Its a bonus that this place is never really that crowded, busy, but not packed... Sort of a little secret bar of downtown. The owner of the bar also makes sure to hire enough employees to tackle its peak hours. Its NOTHING like walking into a poorly managed bar and having 2 bartenders trying to manage a crowd of 100 while they cleaned their own glasses. This earns major points, and gives the bar an automatic classy feel to it.Weve only started coming to Continental about a month ago, and weve been back 3 times. What brings us back other than the cool atmosphere, is really their drinks menu. They offer the classic drinks such as the Moscow Mule and the Old Fashioned but with different alcohol options as base. You can order Moscow Mule with scotch if that pleases you! Their cocktail list is also really simple (less complicated ingredients) and suit these taste-buds well. My favorite drink by far is the Bobby Burns with laphroaig, mmm burn, baby, burnnn, i love that smokey whiskey aftertaste!

Great drinks and friendly staff. Had been a few days and sometimes it takes a while to get your drinks even when they arent super busy. Had DJ and dancing one night.

The bartender was very knowledgeable and crafted beautiful cocktails. I ordered a stout. it was an excellent recommendation and was very happy with the Ambiance. It is a bar so it is loud.

I visited the Continental on Memorial day and was not let inside because I was wearing giants gear. I was told by the security guard that they do not allow anyone to enter with bay area sports gear. Will definitely not be back and will spread the word to friends and family on not to visit this establishment.

Sound system was pretty good. Dance floor is not too small. Nice outdoor patio with fire pits, which unfortunately permits smoking.

They have a cool back area, bar was nicely decorated, bartender was nice and reasonably attentive. Above all, alcohol content was acceptable.Good vibes all around

Know the owners pretty well, and theyre very nice people. One of the managers is also a very close friend. Looking forward to the day I will DJ there!

We attended a private event in the back patio. It was a lovely set up. Good margarita and tasty and healthy tacos with many fixings.

I give this spot two thumbs up. There was fast, efficient, and courteous service. The bill was fair for the quality of the food. Menu is like a place in San Francisco I liked.

The beer is normal price 8-10 for beer on tap. I would recommend to try it out if you like good house music (not edm) thats why I like coming here.

Great setting! I love the patio where you can talk to people. Great tacos too for those, like us, that get hungry when drinking.

The guy with long hair is shady. When asked for muliple tequila shots, he gave us 1/2 shots of vodka. We came with a group of 17. That is a lot of lost business forever.

They charged me 2 dollars for rocks. Thats right, whiskey $8.00, Rocks $2.00. I know theres a drought in California but Ive never been charged $2 for ice ever. If Id been informed of that earlier, I never would have ordered.

My gf broke up with me after I told her I love The Continental Bar and Lounge. I dont understand why she was so upset. She shouted thats not what you say when someone tells you they love you!To this day I dont know if she shouted because she was upset or because I was getting into my uber.

A very interesting bar, only serve drinks and has a loungy feel. I was there on a Tuesday and it wasnt packed, but seemed like a place thatd be really packed on weekends etc.

One of my go to spots for drinks and dancing, I really enjoy the outdoor area and they have a variety of DJ’s that spin different music.

My drink was spiked on the bar top, here in 2018. Bartenders won’t take care of you, they are busy serving and making tips. Watch your back

It can get crowded on weekends and the bouncers believe they own the city. Beers are never cold enough.
