Would leave 0 stars if I could. Rooms are okay. Employees are super disrespectful. We were taking an evening stroll and an employee we never spoke to said they would trespass us for causing trouble. All we did was walk around. It wasn’t too late, and we were not being very loud. We literally never talked to this guy, and we were being threatened. Another employee was very rude to some guests, and didn’t think to ask questions before threatening. Overall very unprofessional…. I will not be staying here anymore

Our check-in was challenging but then after that, the rest of the trip was great. The resort is beautiful and enough to do without leaving the grounds. Of course, visiting the attractions in Santa Cruz was great as well. We were close enough to do all that yet we felt so far away. The View, which is the onsite restaurant, was delicious and the service excellent. Each waiter we had provided a delightful experience. The views were fabulous and sitting outside (heat lamps if needed) added to the experience. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job of providing the needed items and was always available to assist. Cindy, one of the housekeeping members, was attentive and responsive to our needs. We were fortunate to meet Chance, the resort manager. His attention to detail was excellent. He definitely knows how to deal with the public and provided exceptional customer service, especially due to the check-in challenge. I can understand why this resort is successful with Chance at the top. Thank you again for making our experience memorable.

We were very disappointed with the restaurant. Very chaotic seating arrangements, with no organization and many unused tables, which we were told were reserved? The hostess was clueless and unhelpful. The bar staff was amazing and took very good care of us once we finally got a seat at the bar. The food was mediocre at best and overpriced. Our room accommodations were also just so so, and the live entertainment country singer was somewhat disappointing as well. The hiking trails were pretty nice. We dont plan to return

I stayed here a few weeks ago. Overall, the place had a lot to do in. The rooms were very clean. however, during the second night, we had absolutely no power. From morning to the next morning, the front desk gave us lanterns and told us we were able to charge our phones at the front desk. Typically, I would not be the person to complain, but we were there for my friends proposal. We were unable to get all the photos we wanted because all of our phones were dead, and we were unable to get ready in our rooms which ultimately led us to have to tell her about the proposal ahead of time. After explaining this and much more detailed to the front desk, we were told we were getting compensated for our room for the night. a month later still no compensation. I called today and the front desk lady was unpleasant on the phone. If you are planning on spending a lot of money, I would advise you to stay elsewhere.

There was a lot of great amenities and I loved the layout of the rooms with 2 nice pools and plenty of cabanas. I felt that the employees were nice, nothing amazing. There was no elevators to the second floor which made it impossible for us to roll anything into our room. It was pricey, so for that reason i expected an updated, spacious room. Our room was ok but the opposite of what we expected for what we paid. Not worth it, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Room was mostly clean except for the carpets which were filthy. Bedding was comfy. We were on a bottom floor and could hear our lovely neighbors stomping around. The view from the restaurant is spectacular and the bar menu foods were pretty good. We made the mistake of ordering room service for dinner though. 90 minutes later the food arrived cold in plastic containers. Not great!

This place was actually really really nice. It had trails to walk on, an excellent pool area that had dope music as well to set a mood. Justin general the air was fresh and the food was actually really good. A bit fancy for my taste but still really good. Had live music almost every night and activities to do. It is close to the beach but definitely a drive at fifteen minutes plus. It is a place that locals enjoy the vision as well so it was kind of cool.

Went on a 2 night getaway to celebrate getting a leg cast off (recovering from a broken foot). Made my situation abundantly clear to front desk staff (before arrival and also day of arrival) and let them know we needed a first floor room.Asked for a early check in multiple times (didnt get it) and when my hubby went to check in our room after 4pm (said wed get a text for check in - we didnt) they gave us a second floor unit (almost as if they didnt read our reservation notes or previous employees didnt share information over the shift change). He had to go back and get another room.I was on crutches / and using a mobility scooter for the entire trip. Though the resort itself was mostly handicapped accessible (electric lifts on the pool were awesome) none of the doors were automatic (except for the main lobby) which made entering & exiting buildings very cumbersome. Had a hard time getting into the spa check in area & the womens locker room was really hard to navigate on a scooter especially where the toilets are located.Excellent service in the spa itself and maintenance people we saw day to day.Room (903) was nice but carpet was coming up in corners and looked a little junky / also makeup mirror in bathroom was really rusted and should be changed out. Bed was comfy! Fridgerator was housed in a cabinet that hindered us from opening it up completely - kind of annoying.Loved that this resort welcomed our pup and was very reasonable with regard to overall price.

We paid over $700 a night and the room definitely showed its age. Walking in it smelled distinctly of old socks. The beds were comfortable but the bathroom was very small. The spa was a big disappointment basically it’s just a sauna and a steam room and an outdoor hot tub. There are very few chairs out there so not to hang out. We did not get a chance to try the services because they were all booked up weeks in advance. the pool was really overcrowded with people and many children. It’d be so nice if they had an adult pool only. Was really expensive. The grounds and hiking trails were definitely the best part. Not coming back.

We’re on day 3 of 7 and regretting booking here. Most of the things I mention below might be fine in isolation, but altogether it’s just all annoying. We tried checking in early on our first day as we’d called the day prior and asked about early check in. They said they would note that and to ask when we get in. The woman who I spoke to was rude, as if I was inconveniencing her for asking if there was a room ready early. The room is mostly fine except the bathroom is so tiny. I am 5 ft 1 and I feel so claustrophobic taking a shower. My elbows keep hitting the wall and door. The service at the restaurant is absolutely horrible and the food takes forever to be made. We’ve now had breakfast, lunch, and dinner and it’s consistently been non-existent servers and ridiculous wait times for food. They open for breakfast at 7am, but they’re not actually ready at that time. If you order an espresso drink you’ll be waiting for awhile since they won’t have turned the machine on yet. In Sunday the gardener was leaf blowing and they had the doors open so the smell of gas was really strong in the restaurant. When we mentioned it they acted confused. Both lunches and our dinner tonight, we couldn’t even find the server after our order was taken. Once the order is in, I guess their job is done? When we checked in on Saturday they were really busy between a wedding and a bachelorette party. The pool was very busy and the Bach party was in a cabana on the same side as the family pool. As you can imagine (and understandably) they were playing games and having a lot of fun, but it was all inappropriate for my kids so we couldn’t be in the family pool area.Room service is just takeout. They deliver the food in Togo containers. At least, they bring it to your room. There’s more I could mention, but in summary just don’t stay here.

If the chaminade didn’t market itself a luxury hotel this review wouldn’t be so critical. However for the price of this resort it falls subpar at best. Rooms were dated and extremely small bathrooms. Hotel is not conveniently laid out, it feels like a summer camp. The staff is hit or miss. Some ladies at the lobby were very rude and not helpful. While the male staff generally seemed a little friendlier. Most of the support staff didn’t know answers to very simple questions. Food is meh…the only pros are the landscape and views….. there are no real places to get snacks or toiletries at the hotel only a few bag of chips or candy at the lobby. To top it off they added a mysterious 229$ “room discount” fee AFTER I checked out. This place needed better management and a huge makeover stat. After speaking to a male from the front lobby I was finally able to get the mysterious 229$ fee off my tab. But make sure you double check your charges!!!

This place doesn’t live up to expectations based on their website. The bed is nice but the other furniture in the Junior King Suite isn’t very comfortable. The bathroom is nothing special, especially for the price point, and the shower was lukewarm. We asked at 6:15 if we could book an available fire pit, willing to accept it without the fixings for s’mores. Maintenance would not set it up at that time, even though it isn’t that hard to light a fire pit. No robes in the room, even though the pool are is a considerable walk from the rooms. Staff were very nice at booking, and the valet was great at check-in. Checkout date update, quiet time is 10pm until 8am, yet the resort grounds crew fired up the gas powered and loud hedge trimmers and leaf blowers at 7 am. The hot tub is great otherwise stay elsewhere.

I’ve been coming here for 25 years. The spa is really good, but the restaurant food is subpar and the service there is awful. Super slow and usually delayed or wrong orders. For the amount of money you pay, it’s disappointing. But where else is there to go for a resort style spa when you’re a local? The place has really gone downhill over the years. But it’s an excellent location and beautiful on a sunny day. Such a shame that they can’t do better.

Beautiful location. Nature is the 5* here..The food was good as well at the restaurant: but stay was a flop for the cost paid. Lots of issues. Stop locking your pool area at 9:30. It closes at 10pm. This wasn’t a band room key de-magnet door issue , lots of people tried the door (multiple) nights and it was locked! Wrist key works fine otherwise including the room itself. That’s enough time for a 15 min hot tub and back to the room. No reason to lock guests out 30 mins early. We called to let front desk staff know, problem wasn’t resolved the next night. Really bright extension cord below the bed lights the room up. If someone stays above you, you can hear everything. They have a weird, rather unhygienic toilet paper holder that makes no sense.. see photo. Very strange. I don’t see how they get cleaned properly and seems like an extra unnecessary thing for housekeeping that’s already rushed to have to clean! Patio furniture was not comfortable. Would have loved to be outside the room more we faced trees. Grounds were not kept up very well. See photos from some examples. Overall a little bit of elbow grease and some investment could have this property be absolutely amazing and unforgettable. There is so much potential here. Landscaping needs to be worked on.

What a delightful stay! The hotel we typically stay at had no vacancy, so we looked on Expedia instead to find a place that had a pool and was pet-friendly and we found Chaminade. We took a chance and are SO glad we did. Expedia mentioned “VIP Experience” which we initially looked past but upon arriving, we were greeted by a full-size bottle of Pinot Noir, two wine glasses and collapsable bowls for our dog! Our 5 year old son LOVED the pools and we were even able to watch a movie while swimming. The rooms were slightly dated, but the beds were comfy and included a mini-fridge, which was definitely appreciated. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations, especially for less than $400/night! We’re on Day 2 of our long weekend and can already tell that we will be staying again. Kudos to the owners and staff of this fabulous resort for making this quick long-weekend stay feel like a true vacation!

Honestly, I would give -2 stars if that’s an option here. Was here for a friend’s wedding for the weekend. The most beautiful wedding but absolutely the worst resort experience ever. One of the bartenders was very rude (a guy wearing a ponytail) when serving drinks at the wedding reception. The resort room we stayed at was very “cozy”. Shower water was never warm at all, and all the towels were very worn out (worst than the ones at my gym lol) Sound proof b.t. rooms pretty much didn’t exist, and I could literally hear the TV showers my neighbor’s watching at freaking 1am. This list can go on and on. Oh, have I mentioned how much it costed? Yep

I was expecting a lot and maybe that was my mistake going in. However when you consider that just one weeknight costs almost $400 I think its reasonable to expect something above your typical hotel experience. The first problem was the service. Chaminade is part of the Lifestyle Collection for Capital One travel. But the check in person didnt know anything about this. We were supposed to get a $50 experience credit to spend at the hotel but again the check in person had no idea about it. Then the check in person charged us for the room though we had already paid for it through Capital One. Its a good thing we noticed this while checking out.I was also expecting the grounds to feel like a Resort & Spa. Instead it felt more like an upgraded retreat center. Our rooms were decent but nothing luxurious about them.Chaminade proudly boasts about its hiking trails. There are only three and the biggest one is less than two miles and much of it is just walking on a road back to the resort. At least the part that is in the forest has real redwood trees, unlike the grounds themselves that apparently are full of non-native, ugly, peeling eucalyptus trees. The one part the family enjoyed were the hot tubs. I think many other families thought the same thing because they were rather crowded even though it was 40+ degrees and hailing. The next morning we asked again about the $50 experience credit and had to speak with management. Upon realizing their mistake they tried to rectify it by offering us a $50 credit at the restaurant. There we bought three overpriced breakfast items. We were hopeful that Chaminade would prove to be a fun experience, a place to get away from Silicon Valley for a night or two. Unfortunately it proved to be far from that.

Had booked a room through Booking. When I arrived, a blonde lady at the reception told me they had no room available for us, and that it was my fault because I had ordered through a third-party. I tried to explain that they may bear some responsibility, but no, there was nothing to do.It was 7/7:30pm; almost bedtime for our two young babies (2mo, 18mo). My wife and I had planned this weekend for our family for the weekend. We found no alternative at this time of day to accomodate our family, and we had to go back to San Francisco during the night. This experience ruined our weekend; we hope that doesnt happen to another family there. If only the staff there had been slightly empathetic, you know. But I am guessing the lady at the reception was undertrained and didnt want to be there, hence the I dont care/its your fault (almost unbelievable but true) attitude. Staff already seemed overwhelmed even when we arrived before the situation, like they didnt want to be working there. Really terribly disappointing experience overall.

For any Company looking to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for hosting Company Offsites at Chaminade please think twice. We had terrible experience, especially with the customer service that the management provided. The place is being mismanaged resulting in a fire in one of the buildings. The power was cutoff for most of the night and we could not hold any activities for our employees. A number of our employees ended up leaving at night because there was no electricity in the rooms. The rooms were also very ordinary and nothing about them was luxury or resort type (more like a 3 star motel). Management was rude and did not give any credit for the inconvenience caused to our employees. We have over 100 employees and most of them left the place disappointed due to the inconvenience. I would not recommend any Company to host any of their SKO or Company Offsite at this place.

This was more like a motel and certainly not a resort. The towels were rough and the sheets were like sandpaper. The box springs was exposed and the comforter was covered up with a sheet because the comforter was dingy and dirty looking. The furniture looks like it came from a thrift store. Room service was horrible. They cant even scramble an egg right. The carpet looked like it shouldve been changed 10 years ago. The restaurant wasnt much better. My friend received raw meat and under cooked potatoes. They apologize by giving us a cake that was so tiny and was for three people. The next night we ate the items that we knew were good but it took forever to get dessert and it took forever to get our check. We heard that some people who had reservations Saturday night were turned away. The restaurant had overbooked. The people are not friendly and if management thinks this is a resort then they obviously have not been to one. The hiking trails; at least the one that we went on was not kept up and there was a tree down blocking the trail. I will never ever stay at this place again. This was ridiculous. Way way way way overpriced. The rooms were fine but frankly more like a clean motel with good sheets. What was absurd was music at the pool. It was outrageously loud and pounding out the worst music. MC hammer. When we complained at the front desk we were told they had numerous complaints and knew of the situation. Really? Then turn it down or off. It was not ambiance music one would find at a resort or poolside. It was so horrible we had to leave the premises and decided to take a walk on one of the trails. Unimpressive. Really. Barely a walk. I should also mention that while at the pool, we were asked where our pink wrist bands were. Seriously? We showed them and were told to put them on. I said jokingly if you lower the music I’ll put it on and the employee was so rude saying “that’s not how it works, put it on.” Did I mention the outrageous cost we paid and I’m treated like a great America attendant. We ended up leaving. This hotel is not worth half of what they charge. It’s overall tacky. The employees were rude. The bed was mediocre. The bathroom unimpressive and the parking limited. There was a wedding going on and kids everywhere. I should also mention there were bonfires or fireplaces scattered about outside but you had to “reserve”. So what is the resort fee for?Overall this was a hard hard pass.

After speaking to front desk, and then the manager we were given two rooms next door. The room we were put in was an upgrade. Dirty, broken ac that we were told would be fixed, but it never was. We had to move the sleeper mattress onto the floor of the bedroom so the kids could sleep comfortably, only to expose nasty stains on the bed. The bathroom door is literally a slider and has no privacy. There is a 2 inch gap on either side. Hallway carpet is wet and dirty, pools are extremely small for a resort. Dont be fooled by the entrance building, which is beautiful. The building we were in was quite the opposite. I will never come back. Thats $1300 Ill never see again. Overpriced motel.

The place does not have elevators which makes it difficult if you have to unload your stuff on the 2nd floor (strollers, etc…). Parking is hard and even though the valet is free, they do not offer to drive you in a golf cart. You walk a long way to reception to get your car valeted, then walk back. This is not fun when it is 90 degrees out. The reason there was no parking was due to day use guests at the pool. The staff is very friendly though. We loved this resort. Came with my family and enjoyed the pool and spa. The property is good sized with 3 different hiking trails. The 2 queen room is really 2 double beds. Not sure why they mixed that up. The room is a big rectangle with nice space, but it needs a couch or other sitting area. The view is gorgeous, sitting on top of a hillside. The restaurant is pretty solid for a hotel, too.

Pros: nice groundsCons: small pools, no parking.Stayed on Saturday night and it was a nightmare to find parking after we came back exhausted at night. Stayed in 1100 building and it was impossible to take a nap in the afternoon due to loud DJ music. So keep this in mind if you get a room nearby the pools area. Rooms are okay but really nothing to rave home about. Wont be back.

I prepaid $2.8K for an eight night stay at this “resort”. When I checked in at reception, there was no hello, no welcome, etc. Instead, the first thing he said was “credit card”. I confronted him and he apologized, indicating that “it’s been a long day”. I went to my room and to my surprise it was 100° and looked (and smelled) like someone had just gotten laid. Went back to the reception to complain so they gave me another suite but this one had pubic hair on the toilet. Needless to say, an absolutely horrible experience.

It was my boyfriends and I first time in the Santa Cruz area and heard good things about the restaurant. Our waiter, Steven, made us some delicious prickly pear margaritas. We did have to wait for our food a little bit because their ticket system went down. The general manager, Daniel and the rest of the wait staff made sure we were taken care of quickly. Well, let me start by first saying I had read the reviews before my stay and wasnt sure what I should expect with the reviews so mixed. I travel a lot for work so have a lot of experience with the good and the bad that comes with hotels, resorts, air bnbs etc. However, I dont think Ill stay anywhere else but the Chaminade the next time Im in town and future visits. It was one of the best work trips Ive had because all the things this resort has to offer and the staff that is there. Great for families or flying solo. They have multiple pools and hot tubs, a food truck by the pool as well as fire pits and even a movie night outside on the weekend. Live Music, Hiking Trails, Gorgeous and peaceful areas to sit w/a coffee or beverage over looking a beautiful views. It was so charming! The property is beautiful, the flowers throughout it were absolutely gorgeous I made sure to stop and compliment the man who takes care of the grounds. From the moment I got there to the moment I left any staff member I had interactions with were always so welcoming, attentive, helpful, and overall delightful. And the food was SPECTACULAR!. I understand people and places have good days and bad days. (this is to the negative review people) But I was there over a week and I couldnt of enjoyed it more than I did. Maybe give it another chance. Or take some time to reflect that maybe just maybe.....its you. :) I cant wait to go back. -Bev Brenner

We came here for a wedding and was given a discount resulting in the rooms being $495 for their base double queen room. Not to mention we booked this out a couple months before but a friend of ours walked up the same day, got the exact same room for $200... So we paid $300 more for what?!There was NOTHING special about this, not to mention the fan in the bathroom was broken along with the AC that was not working and blowing out hot air instead. There was nothing upgraded or modern about the entire venue. We were very disappointed by the quality of the rooms, the mutual areas and the staff. The staff at the view was extremely slow moving and more of an inconvenience for them to serve you. After checking out, brought up the issues with the room and they thought it was accommodating to take off resort fees, big whoop... Then dealt with Hannah and she was trying to be helpful and was going to take more off our bill and mentioned she would email the difference in charges, still have not received that email, and instead of having a difference, I have more charges on my credit card. NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. The customer service is strongly lacking and not accommodating and feel very cheated out of a lot of money. Unhappy, do not recommend and would like this place to reach out to have my issue resolved as I not have 5 different charges from them.

My recent stay at Chaminade Resort & Spa in Santa Cruz was a mix of delight and a touch of disappointment. Lets dive into the experience!First and foremost, the resorts views are breathtaking. Nestled among the lush hills of Santa Cruz, the panoramic vistas were like a soothing balm for the soul. Sipping on a cocktail while taking in the serene landscapes was a true highlight - the drinks were delicious and expertly crafted, making relaxation effortless. The spa offerings further enhanced the resorts tranquil ambiance. The wellness treatments were a rejuvenating escape, leaving me feeling refreshed and pampered. However, as much as I enjoyed the stunning surroundings and the delectable drinks, I must address a slight hiccup. While comfortable, the rooms were not as clean as I had hoped. Some areas showed signs of neglect, impacting the overall comfort and experience. That being said, the staffs genuine warmth and willingness to assist were truly commendable. Their efforts to make my stay as pleasant as possible did not go unnoticed, and I truly appreciated their attentiveness. In conclusion, Chaminade Resort & Spa offers an idyllic retreat with incredible views and well-crafted drinks that can easily transport you to a realm of relaxation. The spa treatments further contribute to the sense of well-being. However, improvements in room cleanliness are needed to ensure a truly exceptional stay. With some tweaks, Chaminade has the potential to become a seamless blend of comfort, hospitality, and natural beauty

I visited the resort for a work conference. The location is beautiful and peaceful. Hidden in the trees and with a far view of the ocean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. My room was a good size with a pleasant decor. Not modern but not quite rustic. And antique refrigerator shell hid the real refrigerator inside. The dinner was good. I cannot comment on lunch because we had a buffet style service for work so the buffet food was okay. The atmosphere of the bar and patio area at night was relaxing. I was here during the week so it was not a late night place with a nightlife as the bar and restaurant shut down about 9 or 10. Didnt get a chance to visit the hiking trails but was able to see the morning deer and occasional fox or coyote.. I wasnt sure which so keep your small pets on a leash. The resort is dog friendly. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the pool area was not available. It is being renovated so I will reserve the last star to see how that turns out. The location is centered between Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Capitola beach.

The place isnt worth whats priced at. We had to leave one day earlier since we disliked it that much.Crazy Parking Situation: Its very hard to find parking. The property was packed with cars. It made the stay extremely stressful. There was no parking available where our room was.Check In: First of all, the cashiers desks are completely blocked with monitors. It was hard for the cashiers and guests to see each other. The lady checked me in was behind two high monitors. We had to dodge the two monitors to exchange information left or right. Also, she was so distracted on her phone that she didnt see me for a while after I got there. She gave me other guests invoice with all the personal information on it. I didnt realize it until that night when my hubby pointed out. It made me wonder where my invoice was.The Room: We booked the forest view room. It was actually a stump view room. There were a few cut down trees and stumps right outside our patio sliding door. The scenery was completely different from the photos on their website. The room was facilitated with all the cheap paper and plastic everything. Its screaming cheap amenities throughout. The shower was so small and narrow. For me a small person, I couldnt take a shower without banging my elbows on the shower door handle constantly let alone my big frame husband. The TP holder was in such bad shape that the whole roll of TP kept falling into the trash can. Comparison example: At one of our favorite hotels, they have all the beautiful colored glasses for everything vs. this place had everything paper, plastic even wine glasses are cheap reusable plastic ugh; The other hotel always had many different coffee capsules, high-end teas and coffee machine filled with water to max. vs. this place had two cafenated tea pods, two decafinated pods and two cheap tea bags and empty coffee machine water tank. And theyre more expensive than the better serviced hotels. The loud noise: The building is old and walls are thin. The upstairs guests were jumping, stumping late night and early in the morning. Kids were screaming in the hallway. There was no way to sleep in.The worst of all: The restaurant service was horrible. We were on the phone for about half an hour to place a room service order and waited for more than an hour to wait for the food to show up (with call in to check on the order in between). On fathers day morning, we didnt have a reservation since we were told we could just walk in. The host (the restaurant manager with Cleft lip) was arrogant and condescending both before we were seated and when we quit waiting and leaving. The lady was trying to seat us in full sun. I asked to sit in the shade with better view. She had to go check and came back told me we would have to wait longer to be waited if we sit there (Didnt understand the reason, but ok). Truly, no one greeted or brought water or any interaction with us for about half an hour even multiple waiters and waitresses came and went right next to us. When we quit waiting and leaving, we saw at least 4 waitresses were casually chatting by the bar. They didnt look busy at all. The manager was asking us with elivated voice leaving already (sounded like condescending to us instead of concerned about what went wrong).Check out: I asked the manager at the front desk to send email with invoice. She confirmed my email address, and no invoice in email.I wont recommend this place for any aspect and its way over priced.Update 6/19/23: Its disturbing to see a general manager of a service companys dismissive response. A hundred plus of dollars of waiving of cost cant compensate a ruined family vacation and the horrible experience will be here to stay in our memories. The director of guest service of yours had a very cold and bad attitude as well, and she still hasnt sent over the invoice through email as she promised. All the people at this property we encountered are not friendly, this response shows why and seems like its a top down issue.

I had reservations to enjoy the New Years celebration advertised in the eventbrite for 2023 at the resort.I went to the hotel resort to check out the resort before my arrival . The front desk agent wasn’t quite aware of the New Years event , the agent could improve on customer service skills , staff had trouble opening the door to ballroom to view the event location for key fob lock batteries were dead which immediately became a safety concern for me in case of an emergency. The resort bedroom looked clean and decent but the room could have smelled more inviting. I walked towards the gym front desk area and was welcomed with a malodorous stench of funk coming from the gym area. However, the restaurant looked inviting. This place needs improvements. We visited Chaminade for a small one night get-away. It is a very pretty place, and very peaceful. The room was smallish (like a NYC hotel room) but very well appointed and comfortable. It is just fine since you wont be spending much time in the room. The hiking is nice and trails very uncrowded. We enjoyed bocce ball and just relaxing on he lawn. The restaurant has a great view and a wonderful patio, but the food and service fell a little short. Might be that they have difficulty with staffing but the service was uneven at best. But all that said, for short get away close to home, it was cool, quite and very relaxing.

This is an old property that has been modestly renovated. We booked a suite - which was nothing more than a room with a sectional couch shoved in to a cove in the corner. The walls are paper thin and we can hear everyone who walks by our ‘suite’ and also the baby crying in the room across the hall, and also every single step that the folks above us take. When it’s shower time upstairs, they might as well be in the same room. The furnishings are decent. The ‘patio’ furniture outside is not. You’ll find better at a motel 8.Check-in was ok, but the chaos curbside was unnecessary. No one seemed to know what to do with our car.Our rate for one night came to just shy of $600. That’s crazy $ for this old place. Getting an Airbnb next time.Oh - and the pools. They have two. But the max occupancy posted is 880 people. Not my kind of relaxing scene.Glad we are only here for one night.

My company stayed here for a retreat - and one of our colleagues was treated extremely poorly in a discriminatory/racist way. On his last evening, he returned from dinner to find that his room key was no longer working. He went to the front desk to get his key re-activated. Rather than taking the simple step of checking his ID with our companys rooming list, he was met with requests for documentation of his identity, a credit card, and refusal by the resort staff to re-activate his key.He was ultimately made to sit awake all night in the hotel lobby, with no attempt from the resort to assist him in returning to his room. He was treated unfairly and with contempt by the front desk attendant through multiple interactions – including being told he could not use the public restroom and that there were cameras monitoring him in the lobby. (My colleague is Black.)The situation escalated early on Friday morning when his fellow team members began to enter the lobby to check out. Several colleagues tried, unsuccessfully, to vouch for him as one of our employees, make requests to contact the General Manager by phone, and offer other creative solutions – all of which were refused by the front desk attendant. Ultimately he was permitted to return to his room around 7 a.m., once the manager arrived on-site.Our company tried many times to resolve this issue with Chaminade in the months since this happened, and they have refused to be helpful in absolutely any way. Do not stay at this resort and support a racist business!

If you like to stay a little bit off the beaten path in Santa Cruz but still close enough to everything, then this is your place to stay. Stayed there a number of times. Its a resort in the Santa Cruz mountains about 10 minutes away from the beach. from the veranda at the restaurant you can see all the way down to the beach. A great restaurant. It usually has a pool and sand volleyball court but those are Under construction as they are redoing the property. Its also a spa and a great workout facility. The rooms are functional but nothing spectacular. the resort is beautiful and and they have an incredible hiking path through the forest it takes a little over an hour that I highly recommend. They have Discounts that come via email periodically through the year . Try to stay there when its less than $200 a night as there is a resort fee. Sometimes theres too many kids at the pool and its hard to access the pool. Itd be nice if management would enact a 2 hour time zone during the day where its adult only because that is a problem. Other than that I do recommend the property. Ive stayed there a number of times and its an enjoyable place to unwind and relax.

Ill go over what we really liked first. Very friendly staff, amazingly accommodating when we needed to switch rooms from 1 king to 2 queens, easy check-in, great pool and hot tub location and feel, wide open gym and spa area, awesome to have trails and tennis courts on-site. The Sandbox food truck was very convenient (although it only had about 4 basic options and nothing like whats listed on the menu on the website) Essentially the best Santa Cruz hotel based on the amenities. The problem, and reason for why we probably wont come back, is that it doubles as a wedding hotel. We had our two very young kids with us, and were all woken up multiple times by wedding guests (could hear them talking about it), from 11PM all the way to 2:30AM. This is a $600+ hotel...They were not only talking / shouting, but blasting music outside and even filled our room with weed smell, which is when I called a second time to complain. We almost checked out and drove 2 hours home. Now this is not Chaminades fault that guests arent courteous, but when my parents stayed there about a month or so ago and had a similar experience, we just figured it was a one off. It shouldnt have taken security until 2:30am to get this to stop. Ultimately one of the worst, sleepless nights weve had at a hotel.

Stayed here within the last week. Was excited to be staying at a resort. It’s not what I expected. The 2 stars are specifically for the view from the outdoor dining patio of the restaurant. The restaurant food was very expensive and very gross. Hamburger was super thick and flavorless, dressings looked old. Chicken wasn’t cooked well/tough and to top it off it took at the minimum 50 minutes to get our food. There were Only 2 other people there when we arrived. There is a cemetery at the foot of the resort, sort of odd. Surrounding “Forrest” wasn’t anything spectacular, very dry. Smell inside building. Dusty. Smell inside our room-an overbearing room spray smell and then when that wore off, musty fish smell. When walking ok carpet you can feel how dirty it is. Don’t think the best cleaning protocol is followed (which should be during Covid). Lights, etc were dusty. Doors/handles you can see marks/fingerprints all over them. Random Stains on carpets and walls. Only outlet in bathroom didn’t work. Blow dryer in room on high was more like a low setting. It was thankfully not hot enough to need ac but it looked like there was an old non functioning thermostat on wall. Pool was small. Nothing resort about this. I would not stay here again.

Overall, the views and the site was beautiful and wonderfully equipped with 3 different on-property hikes, 2 pools, a dining area with beautiful views of the ocean and greenery, and even a ropes course and disc golf. As far as corporate amenities are concerned, the breakout rooms all had beautiful panoramic views of the ocean and access to restrooms and smaller work spaces. The 3-star rating is a reflection of the quality of the rooms, which were very poor. Not only was the A/C broken in my room, but the walls and ceiling were so thin, I could hear every step and conversation from my neighboring rooms. Calling ahead the hotel had assured me that they had chargers available but when I arrived they told me “sorry, they have been broken for a while”. It was very inconvenient and cost me a lot of time to find public charging stations. They were not super helpful initially but then gave me more assistance, especially the nice valet team. The resort itself is quite pretty, albeit a little old - a touch of “Dirty Dancing” just no Jennifer Grey or Patrick Swayze. We did a nice hike as team building and the pools looked quite inviting. The room had a slightly stale smell when I entered consistent with the somewhat out of date appearance of the entire place. The bath room was spartan and the shower produced four or five streams of water in garden-hose style with no possibility to change the setting. Food was ok and staff was generally friendly. Nice views.Would have give 3 stars if not for the annoying charger misinformation.

We were looking for wine and tapas event and the front desk, restaurant hostess and manager did not know anything about it and left us waiting in the lobby. Note: there is no reserved parking for resort guests & it’s open to the public which makes parking hard to find.Even with our so called patio “view”, we couldn’t even view anything other than the lattice panel placed directly in front of our faces. The patios aren’t completely fenced off though so there’s no privacy. All night we listened to people & kids yelling & the smoke from the fire pits pouring in & it made me nauseous & all my clothes stunk. Our room was dirty, smokey & not updated in forever. The carpet felt gross & the bed didn’t have a fitted sheet or anything protecting the mattress. Our shower-head was old & corroded & no water pressure in sink. We could hear our neighbors conversation through the walls & the front door area has an extensive section that is made to look like glass but it’s actually plastic so someone could easily punch their fist through & unlock the door.I could go on & on because there’s so much more to say but I honestly just don’t want anyone else being completely let down by this place. Also it was suppose to be a cbd massage and I am very confident cbd was not used. Very disappointing from a place that charges as much as they do.I told my wife and she called to ask them about this and they said that it was the right time and cbd was used and were very unprofessional. Definitely won’t rebook and won’t stay here again.

The people that helped me the first night were exceptional, I asked to move rooms due to noise. And they moved me which was so sweet and I really appreciated it. All I wanted to do was relax and sleep, which made me an outlier surrounded by families and older folks enjoying the resort. Chaminade has always been this shining beacon atop the hills in Santa Cruz where a lucky few can marry, eat and celebrate. I have gone over the years and I was very excited for a nights stay, especially after not sleeping for a week due to a move. So the hotel room was perfect, the bed comfortable, shower warm with superb pressure and I think the highlight would a million percent be the restaurant. They were gracious, kind and the food was superb. They even had STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING which I thought I would never have again outside of the UK. It was life changing, so a must. But the only disappointment I experienced at the Chaminade was calling back about a normal charge I had gotten. I wish I could be impervious to tone and aggravation, but the person did not seem to keen to be talking with me. It was a shame and something that put a shadow on my experience.Overall I would recommend the Chaminade for families who want to play in the pool or hike outside.

We booked this short getaway for my husband’s birthday. Beautiful property and staff. Everyone greets you with a smile which isn’t a standard in the hospitality industry anymore. Shane at the front desk checked us in and was extremely curtious, he’s such a lovely person to interact with and that itself sets the mood right from the beginning. Amazing views, we booked a junior suite and the room was very very clean and we loved the interior. Used the pool and hot tub after a fun day at Santacruz broadwalk to relax. They have complimentary charging stations for Tesla near the front desk and we were able to catch a ride with the valet back to our room while we left our car for a charge. I will update the review once we checkout.

It’s obvious that you are paying tons of money for the great furniture, beautiful decor and views. But I do not recommend this place for families. There’s no microwave in the room the water they provided was not free!! The food is …let’s say I ordered risotto with chicken of the woods and I got the worst oatmeal I’ve ever had for about 38$ it’s disgusting unappetizing unappealing. The kids wanted breakfast, we went down to the restaurant once more to save time because we wanted to grab breakfast and go on a hike. The food was cold only 3 items were available and those 3 items were disgusting, I’ve stayed at low quality hotels that serve better breakfast than that even the receptionist was embarrassed of the food being served. The pools were being renovated and they didn’t even enclosed that in the reservations, no discount, no room credit for the inconvenience.Overall it was a wasted ton of money to stay here. Would not recommend to no one.

I travel a lot and I have stayed at many hotels/resorts in my life all over the world. This hotel is no where near a 4 star hotel/resort status. I would expect a 4-star hotel to have at least dual pane windows, and bed sheeting that doesnt make so much noise. We did not sleep all night due to the noise. Rooms need to be upgraded. The resort feels like an old apartment complex. Its hard to find Parking. We paid $350 + resort fee for the night, I am not sure what they are even charging the resort fee for when they can not even provide any services or a parking spot. The trail that goes around the property is not maintained and needs a lot of upkeep. Dont be fooled by the pictures, It is not whats being shown on the photos. There is no elevator, you will have to carry your luggage up the stairs. This hotel is not worth $400 a night, I would rather pick motel 6 over this place. This was our first and last time at this place. NEVER AGAIN!

Stayed here just after covid-19 restrictions were eased a little. The location and grounds are very nice and theres a lot of potential here. Fitness center excellent, view from restaurant very nice. Tennis courts also very nice, but popular and sometimes hard to reserve. Fire pits look like fun, but seemingly impossible to reserve. The pool is tiny and only 5 ft deep. Literally many private homes will have larger pools than this one. Some hotels limit the number of guests and leave rooms empty a day, but not here. Place was fully booked and the pool too crowded. Facilities were pretty run down to be honest. Our fridge was broken, lots of rust, stains, and torn fabric everywhere. Most staff was friendly but a few more than just gruff. There were a number of communication errors, delays and issues with reservations. Seemed very short staffed. I hope they get it all sorted out!

I have never been so disappointed in a Hotel especially with the price we paid for a girls weekend. The spa said they couldn’t find our reservations. Rooms weren’t ready. Then they said the restaurant was booked! The only plus was the great night staff at the restaurant who snuck us in. So we paid all the money to sit in a Hot tub. Then hoping breakfast would be in upside the waitress was terrible and took us over an hour to serve us even waiting on people who came in after us. I will not be back and I travel a lot so I am very disappointed ruined our trip! Talked to the Hotel staff and was told someone would get ahold of me and that never happened either!

This is an older hotel on a golf course property. The rooms were spacious and had been nicely renovated to a high standard. We stayed during the Christmas break. There is a $35 resort fee, which we knew about ahead of time, however I felt this was not justified, as the amenities offered were similar to other properties which do not add fees, also no food was available during our particular stay due to the timing of the visit. Don’t let the pictures fool you. For $300/night this place is not worth it. Resort fee when nothing is open but the crowded pool. Can’t use the fire pits unless you pay $100 extra dollars. But what was the most disappointing was the covid safety protocols. We watched the restaurant not wipe down tables between parties on several occasions. Staff wore masks below their noses. Half the guests were walking around without masks on including inside the lobby and no one asked them to put one on. Supposed to be a non smoking property, but people were smoking on the patio while enjoying cocktails. Super disappointing experience. Staff seems very rushed and not personal. It says queen bed but actually its double bed. I would say Best Western is much better. The bathroom is pretty small, water pressure is very low. My wife booked us a night here to get away on a weekend. At close to $500/night and a four stars rating, I was expecting a great time away. We arrived at the gorgeous, spectacular location. The valet attendants were very young kids who waved me to one place and then another before realizing that I would be driving to park where we were staying anyway. Seemed disorganized but cool that they employ kids for the Summer. We checked-in, went to a room that was fine and immediately went to the pool. The pool area is small and was crowded. There were a couple of big events(wedding, bat mitzvah) so it was understandable. A couple of encounters with people in the pool seemed off. We had brought a small beach ball for our toddler and a man and his son had taken it and were throwing it back and forth to/at each other. No biggie. When we went to leave I asked for it back. The father was weird about it and make some snarky remark. So already, not feeling four stars. I stay about twenty percent of the year on business at mostly three star hotels. We were only at the pool about forty minutes because it was dinner time. We went to leave and I realized that my prescription, titanium aviator sunglasses which were sitting on a poolside table about twenty feet away from us on the same side of the pool had been stolen. I immediately tried following-up and asking staff. They were helpful but not four star helpful. Most just sort of shrugged and acted as if they doubted what I was telling them.So the stay started on a very sour note. We went to dinner. It was buffet but a very good buffet. The wait staff and bar staff for the two meals we had were exceptional. The views from the restaurant are incredible and the wide open grass area is perfect for little children. So the place was mostly great but just never felt like other places where Ive spent as much. I related the story to a friend who grew up in Santa Cruz. Hed had his wedding reception dinner there. But he let me know that Chaminade is well known in the Santa Cruz area as being a place that locals can just go crash. So enjoy the food and views but watch your stuff!

Chaminade Resort sits at the top of a hill on 300 acres of beautiful, well maintained grounds with spectacular views of Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay and Peninsula. Rooms were refurbished about 4 years ago; quirky decorative themes and colors (abacus headboard!) add interest and most rooms have patios or balconies. A large pool and recreation area is great for kids and the resort has many pet-friendly rooms but parking can be problematic when the resort is full. Youll find a space but be prepared for a bit of a walk. The restaurant, bar and lobby were renovated in March 2020 and feature two large fireplace seating areas, one adjacent to the lobby and another next to the View restaurant and bar. The restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating with expansive views of the Bay. The menu was pandemic-limited but all dishes were creative, well-prepared, and reasonably priced for a destination resort. The staff was uniformly pleasant, professional and helpful, even tracking down a magazine I misplaced and delivering it to our room.Overall, a solid 4.5 star resort - well be adding it to our getaway list!

So I love this resort and have been staying here since the late 90s maybe? I was visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday and overall very much enjoyed it BUT...having said that, there were a few things that really need improvement based on the high end reputation of this beautiful resort.First, our climate controls didnt work. Sucked it up the first night and asked engineering to fix it while we were out on Thanksgiving. It appeared to be a bandaid job as it was set on 90° like I had done the previous night but it didnt start blowing freezing air on us so we were okay. Second, we asked for a rollaway bed upon. Check in and waited til late, finally giving up. The staff made it right the next morning. The deadbolt on our room didnt work and the exterior doors were left open sometimes all night. We used the flip lock for safety. The enamel in the tub had a 6 circle the was missing around the drain of the shower and again, for such an adorable and high end facility, this should be the case. We went for a night swim. (Pool amd spa and amenities GORGEOUS!) But we watched an employee struggle to light the much desired fire pit for a women and was unable. Be warned that if you are there on a holiday you likely wont eat anything except their pricey holiday buffet. It looked OUTSTANDING for the record but, we were hoping to just get a little bit because we were having the entire meal at our relatives home later....nothing available but the buffet. That was disappointing that a hotel guest wouldnt have even a limited menu.So overall this resort is still incredible and you will love it. But I hope they see this review because room 310 needs a little work. Lol Safe travels to everyone! ;)

My husband and I stayed at the Chaminade pre-Covid and had a wonderful time. Noted that their bar area and dining were unavailable at this time, they catered to us and we had a delightful time. We stayed in one of their King suites that had an attached living room. As we were inclined to celebrate our anniversary, I booked us a three day stay over, so we could really enjoy their services more. When I called to ask about check-in time, a rude man answered the phone stating that the check-in time was listed on their website as 4:00 and hung up the phone. When checking in at the front, we asked if we should make reservations for dinner and they told us to call for dining reservations, but it should be fine. We called and left a message that we wanted to dine at 6:30. Upon getting to the bar a bit early for cocktails, we were informed by a very rude hostess that they were not taking reservations. Upon stating that we were guest of the hotel, she said We can put you on stand by. My husband and I got our drinks at 5:30 and were greeted by the nicest bar staff (I swear theyre the only reason Id return). My husband checked with the hostess again, to see how long the wait would be and she clearly stated that she would not seat us. However, many outside/inside areas were empty, with no reservation cards. My husband and I ate at the bar, however we did not eat until 7:30-8. Not to mention that there were flies and fruit flies everywhere. Looking forward to a proper lay down, we marched back to our room, which was not the same type of room we had previously. The toilet ran all night, they put us near the laundry area, so there were people slamming the door back and forth, dogs barking/children crying. Not very peaceful unfortunately. We cancelled our other two nights, as we mightve let it slide for $200 a night, but they were charging $500 a night. Not a resort at all.

Worst experience ever - staff is extremely rude and inhumane! Should have read other reviews before booking this place. We had an extremely bad experience at this property yesterday. We with our friends booked 4 rooms in this resort for the long weekend (3 nights). We were traveling with our kids and a small dog, so we reserved a pet friendly room. They violated our privacy by barging into our room without calling/knocking at 2AM in the night while my wife and 2 kids (4 and 9) were sleeping because our dog was barking on the guy who decided to just stand outside our room. My wife was in the room with kids and dog and we were able to calm the dog, but we were still forced to leave our room at 2 AM while my kids were sleeping. Who does that? What kind of customer service is that?I would like to see the qualifications and credentials of the front desk guy (Jeremey) and how can he be in the service industry? if he is trained and have basic qualifications to manage a situation like this? He came across as someone who clearly does not care about people, potentially hates his job, has poor listening skills and lacks empathy! When asked for a manger as we did not wanted to wake kids up at 2AM, he said he is the manager. To resolve the situation, law enforcement had to be involved. When tried to reach management the next few days, no one was available to address the issue. After posting the review on social media, the manager Kevin reached out promising he will inquire about the incidence and will get back to me promptly. He never got back to me. When I followed up, he went to the lowest low and started fabricating lies.Additionally, resort is pretty outdated and overpriced and service is super slow. Took them more than 90 minutes to serve us appetizer. They did not let us rent fire-pit even when they were not occupied/reserved.And, definitely not pet friendly at all. even though they charge a $150 pet free and have altogether different rooms for pet. They totally ruined our long weekend! would not even recommend this resort to anyone. We are never coming back and advise others to do the same!

At around 9:30 pm, a loud party started in the room next to us. At 10 pm, we had enough of the loud noise and smoke. So, my wife called the front desk for help. Two calls went unanswered and rolled over to the message system. Finally at midnight, someone answered our call. At sometime past 1:30 am, the party ended. The next morning at checkout, we were quizzed on my how many times we tried calling for help, why we didnt call more often and that everything was fine since the noise and smoke stopped at 1:30 am. No apologies for not having adequate staff on duty at 10 pm. The only message was received loud and clear was that they appreciated our money and it was time for us to leave their property. We were looking forward to spending some time in Santa Cruz and we were pleased to find a last minute deal online. However, once arriving to the hotel, we realized that the pictures were more pleasing than the actual accommodation. The hotel and the facilities are very old and dated. The clerk at the front desk was super friendly; however, we realized that her great recommendations were soon to be short lived. She was very nice and helped us put our rooms next to our friends rooms and she also gave us a choice of an upstairs or downstairs room. She recommended that the downstairs room was much nicer since it had access to a large balcony -- we decided to listen to her since, hey, she knows the most about this resort! In hindsight, I should have listened to my boyfriends recommendation of going with the upstairs room. The room we were given was SO NOISY. We could hear every creak and crack of the guests staying above us. I dont think the guests were doing anything particularly crazy -- just walking around. The large balcony turned out to just be an open sliding glass door into a wooded area (no dividers between the different blocks of rooms). We were also disappointed because the front desk clerk said that we could reserve tennis courts and that they would be able to rent us tennis rackets and equipment. When we called later to reserve a court, we were told that they do not rent out equipment. We probably would not stay here again.

Food over priced and not worth the quality. Attended a wedding and they cut them all off early at 9:55p. Would not stay again.Only good part was the staff was pleasant and there were a lot of them.

Chaminade resort and spa was a very nice resort. The rooms were very clean, although mine was a little too warm for my liking. When I brought this to the attention to the front desk they were able to quickly get me a fan so that I could sleep. all in all I had a great time.

The only off thing was a small hole in my pillowcase. The staff was friendly, the restaurant delicious, swimming pool nice. Beach volleyball, tennis courts, hiking...the resort is lovely and beautiful to explore. The beds were comfy, the rooms were sleek and modern and the patio with a Forest view is so relaxing.

My family and I had an amazing time. The staff were so polite and accommodating. When the main restaurant made a mistake on our order, they fixed it and even took off a percentage from our tab. Beautiful views and wonderful amenities. My sister and I vlogged our experience on our YouTube channel called “My sisters keeper channel.” Such an amazing stay. We will be back, see you soon. 👏🏽

Totally overpriced, club members preferred, would be resort and spa. We have spent a long weekend at Chaminade Resort & Spa, looking forward to the relaxation, spa, fine dining. It turned out that the restaurant does not accept reservations because it is fully booked forever. Weird thing when you look at all the empty tables kept for who knows whom. The spa was also not available and booked out. The spa amenities are open to the spa guests (not since no reservations possible) and the club members. The tennis courts were mostly occupied by the club members also. So basically as a regular guest you are left out to your luck with a forest cabin amenities at the price of Ritz Carlton. After complaining to the management we were eventually granted a place in the restaurant and a refund of $350 on the total hotel fee (16%).I assume we should be thankful to be let in so such a minor thing like serving an appetizer simultaneously with the main course should not be mentioned. We never got to the spa. When checking out the promised refund did not show on the bill. After complaining again, we got the $350 off. Strange that such mistakes only happen to the hotel benefit and never other way around. The overall grounds are beautiful, to give it a justice. The forest trail is not overbooked and available to non-club-members. The restaurant has a beautiful view and good food if you manage to get on the short list of preferred guests. Considering the secluded location and the lack of alternatives other than driving to the nearest cities to eat it is a weak performance.I would not recommend to anyone hoping to find resort and spa. If you need a forest cabin, it is a great place, of course assuming you are ok to pay several hundreds of dollars for a cabin.

Very disappointing for a “resort”.I will say the dinner and live music was nice night one (good good, view and staff did all they could) you could tell they were wearing multiple hats and understaffed overall. We ended up switched rooms bc the carpet was disgusting only into a room that was dinked up with a muffin and very topical cleaning job throughout. You can tell that sadly the pandemic must have hit this place hard. Gym was nice but no real ac floor fans instead and a dingy water bottle for hydration. Just again not why you would expect to find at this price. I’d say (unfortunately) skip this spot and Airbnb it instead. Salt water pool likely the best feature. Also for the record I think this is my only 1 star I’ve ever given— that disappointing.

I would give it more stars because of its serene location but for the price, I was expecting a much better customer service experience. On the day we checked in, we were welcomed by a tray of dirty dishes right by our door, which were still there the next day. The room heater was not working, so the technician spent an hour in the attic right above our room and all the noise while he was flushing the tubes with water, was definitely not what I had in mind for my first hour in the room. We were there on Christmas Day, so we made reservations for the Christmas buffet for 5:45 pm but didnt get seated until 30 minutes after. And while we were waiting, we were to enjoy some warm apple cider but it had run out and there was no attempt to refill it. The spread was to put it mildly, not anywhere worth the $53.95 we paid per adult. We had to continually remind the servers that they had run out of clean plates, out of butter for the rolls, out of crackers for cheese, to name a few. The dessert area looked filthy with crumbs strewn around everywhere and the servers looked stressed and harried. Overall, very disappointed with the quality of the service and food. And to top it all, the folks that came after us, got seated before us and I had to literally glare at the check-in person to have us seated. They need to get their act together because whatever money they supposedly spent on renovations, will not compensate for the sub-par service.

Very affordably priced for the experience you get. Great views. Lots of amenities and professional staff. My family enjoyed a pleasant stay here on our way to the boardwalk. Fantastic for weekend getaways. Minutes from the beach and the mystery spot. So much to see and do in Santa Cruz. This place was lovely for relaxing and the rooms are spacious.

Nice property with hiking trails and other recreational activities. Suite was very small and smelled like a pet clinic. The hotel staff gave our room key to a random person who claimed to be staying in our room at 3:00 a.m. Needless to say this gave my wife and I quite a scare when this random person opened our door in the middle of the night. I couldnt possibly stay here again due to the complete disregard for guest safety and privacy at 3:00 a.m. when guests are most vulnerable. The hotel did absolutely nothing to rectify this situation.

I am not the type to leave a review but after this stay I am completely shocked at the way I was treated. I am born and raised in Santa Cruz and come back down once a month to stay. I decided to stay at the Chaminade instead of the seascape resort (where I usually stay) that was my first mistake. My first room had mice, it was absolutely disgusting, so they switched my wife, 3 kids and I to a tiny room for the night instead of the suite I paid for, So we all had to pack on 2 beds. The next day I had to call to request a room like the one I paid for, they didn’t even offer to do that. They were very rude over the phone and made me come to the front desk every time instead of accommodating me and my family as we move to a total of 3 rooms since we arrived. They didn’t apologize for the matter at all, I didn’t ask for anything but would expect a sorry for the inconvenience. We also called house keeping 20 mins before closing and they told us they could not help us out. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I run a multimillion $ company and wouldn’t treat my worst guest like this. I will never stay at the Chaminade ever again and will let my peers know about this horrible experience. Makes me wonder if this treatment was due to being minorities because we have been treated horrible since the beginning. Only reason why I rated this 1 star is because I had to in order to leave review.

Do NOT be Fooled by the Pictures. It is no where near a 4 star hotel/resort. Rooms need a big upgrade. The entire “resort” felt like an outdated apartment complex. Bathroom does not have a door/lock! The pool looked awful. Parking is small and based on whatever slot is open. We checked in and immediately checked out the same day!! That’s how HORRIBLE it was!

The resort was OK. Nothing spectacular and found the rooms to be very simple and clean. The bathroom did not have a hair dryer and the bath tub seemed to be at least 10 years old. When I think of a resort, I think of well-lit bathrooms and lush towels and high pressure shower heads. But nevertheless, resort was clean and the people were super nice. Would I go back? Maybe... but why pay so much when I can get the Marriott to do the same? The resort is the epitome of average.

This is a very charming resort in Santa cruz. It sits on a small hill and the property is around 300 acres. It was a quick getaway for me here for one night. But you can also come here just for spa or for their food. For me, the highlight was Breakfast, it was so yummy. Their restaurant/bar and lounge area are very appealing. We sat outside to have our breakfast and it was a very pleasant experience. The food was delicious. They have one of the best pan cakes I had in a very long time. If you are like me who does not like oats, I do recommend you try their oats once it is very well cooked and so delicious. The staff are very generous and attentive. The accommodation and rooms are very basic I felt. There is a small balcony with seating arrangements with every room. There is gym and an outdoor heated swimming pool (Also jacuzzi) area. If you like walking in nature, then there is a trail at the back as well for you to wander around. I would not come here again for stay but for food and would also like to try the massages here one day.PS - Because of COVID, spa is temporarily closed. There are also some restrictions in the gym and pool area.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION. Pretty awful room service and restaurant service. We somehow still regularly eat here. For example our party got here around 5:00pm and haven’t gotten drinks, appetizers or food and it’s now 6:16pm. So we left. I would say skip ‘Mexican Monday’s’ it’s not that great. I would say get the burger and margarita.

My workplace had a retreat at Chaminade earlier this year. One of my colleagues experienced terrible discriminatory behavior based on race at the event. Several of us tried to intervene to support our colleague and our firm tried to work with the resort with no apology or effort to resolve the situation. I would never stay here or recommend the resort to anyone else. The resort staff and leadership demonstrated completely inappropriate and downright disgusting behavior.

The resort was a great experience overall! Although on the surface the resort looks a little aged and dated, the insides are quite modern and clean. The weather was fairly cold, which I heard is a standard experience with visiting Santa Cruz. The beach is quite close by with a lot of different atttactions to take part in (the boardwalk comes to mind), and there are nice short and easy hiking trails within walking distance of the resort.

Our stay at a Chaminade was ok until the first night when we happened to see hair through the single bed sheet draped on top of the bed. We removed the sheet and discovered the mattress protector was covered in other people’s hair and so were the sheets. We even checked the spare sheets left in our room and every single one had someone else’s hair on them. We emailed the GM and he never responded. We ended up purchasing our own sheets from Target to use for our stay.Aside from that the walls were chipped, appliances were dated, walls were thin, and vents were filthy. This is a motel.Fortunately, the front desk staff are very polite and reimbursed us for the sheets, and waived our breakfasts and the “resort fee”. They work hard and clearly keep this place afloat. If it wasn’t for their service we would have left and found another place to stay. I hope the owners or managers do something about this because I feel bad for guests who don’t happen to check for cleanliness.

I have heard many great things about this beautiful hideaway. It gives you the feeling of being up there in the trees and so close to nature, with all these fun and exciting amenities. We decided to spend a night here to unplug and unwind. I havent been to the restaurant and spa, yet. But those views are EVERYTHING. A few things need upgrading and updating. But all in all, a great place to get away and breathe after a day at the beach or the boardwalk.

Pros:- Tesla chargers- Pretty views- Hiking- Decent full gym with Peloton bikes, weights, treadmills, etcCons:- Spa was fully booked for MONTHS! When you book a resort and spa, you kind of assume that they will save some spa capacity for guests. Nope! Stayed 4 days and couldn’t get any spa services. Huge disappointment. They should make this very clear when people are booking.- Room was tiny and fairly ordinary- Maintenance issues: lights didn’t turn on, toilet seat was very loose, and a few other minor things- Paper thin walls, can hear neighbors clearly when they’re not even talking loud- Not a single USB plug in the room- 1980’s looking hardware for the bath / shower head.- NO ESPRESSO DRINKS!?! How do you only have drip coffee at a fancy resort restaurant? And then they charged me $5 for a cup of drip coffee.- Restaurant closes kitchen at 9pm, no room service, and there is practically nothing but fast food available on DoorDash in the area after 9pm. So if you’re arriving late, you’re pretty much out of luck on dinner.- No laundry bag in the room, so I’m guessing no laundry service.I might have given a four star review if the price to stay here wasn’t so expensive for the level of service. They’re charging 4-5 star pricing for 2-3 star service, mainly because it’s a pretty place. I’d stay here again but only if the price were about 1/2 of what they charged.

The staff are amazing and the grounds are stunningly beautiful. This is the PERFECT place for a wedding, bridal shower, high-powered corporate meetings and ceremonies, and adult birthday parties. There are plenty of outdoor activities for families but its better for adults. Pet friendly. The rooms are very expensive for the level of luxury offered - this is where they lose a star - pay top dollar for the best room and itll be great but try to get a cheaper room and youll question why its still so expensive - I guess everyone is paying extra just for the perfect views and fresh air.

We stayed here with our dog and so we were in the pet friendly rooms. I think they were probably not as nice as the other ones, but that part is fine. They have cornhole and firepits, pools and hot tub. The restaurant was decent in terms of the food, but service wasnt always great. We also didnt have the best experience checking in. THe front desk gave us the keys to the wrong room, so we had to go back and get the keys changed. There are some cool hiking trails around the perimeter of the hotel area, so you can walk for miles and have peace and quite.Overall it was a nice getaway, and definitely relaxing. I would go back for sure, but there are certainly aspects that could be improved for a better experience.

Mixed experience. Short on staff and staff that were there were not accommodating at all. Well after shelter in place has been lifted, No room service, No house keeping, spa limited to massages only on 3 days, restaurant took an hour for food, and the resort made no accommodations at all to make up for basically no services at all. We went for Thanksgiving dinner. I was very impressed with how they had every food item labeled (if it had a gluten and/or dairy ingredient) I was so excited when I saw the gluten and dairy free chocolate dessert. Due to my food sensitivity, Im used to not having a dessert option, so Ill eat some fruit for dessert. The food was delicious, and they didnt run out of anything, the service was good, the day was beautiful, the view was beautiful. We would do it again.

No microwaves in the room and if you want one they charge you 15 bucks. I didnt like that the only options for the AC/Heater was Auto or off, at night I set the temperature to a nice cool 70 degrees and every time it got below that the heater kicked on and I woke up so hot with a dry throat every night so I had to turn the air condition way down tell it was almost too cold. I didnt think the room was anything special either the nightstand was a weird metal Barrel there was a picture of a sports car steering wheel in the bathroom and over the desk hung a giant School ruler. I kind of wish I take a picture of that stuff but I did get a couple angles of the room. The room was clean and it wasnt a bad Hotel I just expected more for what they charge per room, online they make it look so luxurious I just felt like the room itself could have looked a little bit more luxurious. The pool is also kind of small and pretty average.
