American Shave

I have to make an update… after years of using American shave… I’m done. I had a big conf to go to and wanted to clean up so booked an apt for 12:30 on Sun 5/26. This is literally the worst cut I’ve ever had. A trainee at supercut can do better. Tell me if that pic looks like a $55 cut to you??I’ve been coming here for a few years now and tried different barbers. Very happy with consistency quality and service! Def recommend!

Literally the worst haircut I ever had. I should have know when the barber was cutting my hair without the chair facing the mirror. One of my side burns wasn’t even cut. Hair was uneven and an awful cut. It’s a shame because the space is great, I amSure there are some good barbers but I got a bad one. How a manager couldn’t spot a weak link is amazing at a more expensive supposed high end barber.

All I can say is WOW , after many trial and errors with other barbershops , I left feeling great and looking even better , Nick was phenomenal and pays such attention to detail !! It was my first experience with American Shave and I couldn’t be happier , I highly recommend this shop and Nick is beyond talented , definitely will be my new barbershop/spa !! Thanks Nick , you’re the best !!!

The lobby is sweet. Build out is awesome. Cut by Jessica was great!! Good stop for a Sarasota cut.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.Nick, my barber, understood exactly what I needed and had my hair looking like I stepped off the pages of GQ.I had a luxury haircut at the price point most places charge for a basic haircut.I was extremely impressed by Nicks skin fade. Often I find most barbers arent capable of doing skin fades; Nick however, gave me the freshest and lowest skin fade Ive ever gotten in Sarasota.The atmosphere is high class but welcoming and youre greeted by a smiling receptionist. I recommend getting the American Shave Signature Cut package and treating yourself to a luxurious haircut!

I came here to the Mateo, and let me tell you this man makes haircuts a dream. He is always precise and gets me looking as Hollywood as ever. Not only does this man have skills with the fades, he has the charm and conversation to go with it.I’ve seen many great barbers but Mateo has been my go to since moving to Sarasota, if you are looking for a consistent barber to use long term and be your go to…it’s him. If your looking for a good cut while in the area… it’s him. I flew in for vacation in need of a cut and scheduled a haircut and shave with Mateo and received easily one of the best haircut and shaves I have ever had! His attention to detail, knowledge, and skill with a razor was one only a very professional and experienced barber would have! I feel like a whole new man and honestly can’t say enough how outstanding the haircut was! I highly recommend you book a service here with Mateo, you certainly will not regret it!

Came with my boyfriend for a him to get a haircut and shave. he looks nice but has gotten better haircuts in 45 minutes max. Would high recommend not coming to sit in as a guest as the only seating they offer to guests is a narrow wooden bench that feels like you’re sitting on a window sill.

I have been going there for a few months now and it really changed the way I get my haircut. First off the talent in the barbers is amazing especially Jake who has taken care of me a couple of times. He knew his way around a razor and lined me up good. The place it’s self is relaxing but still has that sense of maturity to it. Overall, love the place and will definitely keep coming back over and over because I found my barber

American Shave is the real deal. First off, they have the best barber in Sarasota, just ask for Mateo. I lived in Sarasota for 6 months before I found Mateo, and I get a haircut every 2 weeks, so Ive tried just about all of em. Also, they offer the works so do yourself a favor and buy a package deal so you can grab a massage after your cut.

Alex is the man to see. Always does a great job. The fade is always perfect and he also tends to any small requests. He is kind and takes his time making sure that the guest is satisfied. Will be back for another cut with alex. Thank you again!

Been going for a while. Just looked at their website a traditional cut is $55? Theyre no better than any other barber Ive ever been too Ive actually had worse experiences here than others. Sure if it was consistently a fantastic haircut I could see paying $55 but no way in hell I will ever pay that price. Staff turnover is their biggest issue thats for sure.

Cheryl did a fantastic job. Above all, she listened to what I said and gave me the look I wanted. I highly recommend her and American Shave!

I thought the service was fine. It was convenient and easy to schedule, however, be prepared for it to be expensive. That wouldn’t be a negative if their prices were advertised in advance. I expect a “barber shop” to cost $20-25. Maybe $30-35. I had a basic haircut that lasted not more than 10-15 mins and the bill was $55. That’s before tip. These guys really should be more upfront about their pricing.

We just moved to Sarasota and one of my concerns was finding a good place to get my haircut. I have only used two shops in the last 30 years. I was very spoiled. I could just sit down, and they did all the work, and they always did a fantastic job. Nick was great, he was able to pick up right where they left off. Only, this place was even better!!!! I have never been so pampered. Im use to getting a haircut, but nothing like this! I will return, as well as try out some of the other services they offer. I dont usually take the time to leave a review, but they deserve 5 stars!

Ive been coming to the establishment for over a year now. I always enjoyed it and was always satisfied with my service. I will not be going back after the raised their prices from 38.00 for a Traditional Skin Fade to now 45.00. That is outrageous. There is now way their overhead has increased by the much to charge an extra 7.00 per cut. And that was not the only service they increased prices on. They also dont even have a receptionist. Barbers are being interrupted while servicing their clients to answer the phone. So you raise the prices and I get worse service than before because my haircut is being interrupted by my barber because they have to answer the phone? This is ridiculous and I will not be back.

I regularly go to American Shave and get my cut with Brian. He does a very good job and I would gladly recommend to anyone looking for a good clean cut. The entire process from walking in to check out is very efficient and friendly staff. Absolutely recommend!

Just moved to the area, I got lucky and found a great place to get a haircut. I will continue to get my haircut there from here forward. No need to continue to look for something I already found. Made same day appointment, which was right on time. Nice clean, even, fade and a neck shave. Very happy!!

Went in to sort a poor haircut from a downtown barber, Matthew went above and beyond fixing it, giving me a cut that suits my face and will be my go-to from here. Attention to detail, craftsmanship, exceptional customer care, everything you want. Could not have gone better and would highly recommend to anyone.

Id give 6 stars if i could. Lorenzo, the barber, was great! Such a nice dude who is a really talented barber. This place was awesome on every level. Cold brew while you wait for you cut, friendly staff, and the hair cut was the best one Ive ever got. I was checking out and expecting a $45 bill. Nope. $25.. You have to go check this place out when you need your next haircut. Ill be coming back every single time from now on. Great job guys

With 28 years of otherwise wedded bliss, the one scary aspect of my wife is her reaction to my haircuts...NO MORE as she absolutely loved how Brian made me look! He is definitely my future go-to for haircuts. He is personable and skilled, plus the front desk crew were awesome, and the whole vibe at American Shave is classy.

It was a great first time experience. The facility is clean, neat and organized. It’s truly a spot just for men. Sheri Adams the manicure and pedicure specialist was amazing and knowledgeable. The professionalism second to none. Will be coming back.

Best place in town for a haircut and shave. I have been there several times with Nick and going back again in a couple weeks. He has been awesome every time. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Im sure the other hair stylists are also great, the other customers all seemed very happy every time I have been there.

My son has gone there several times now and sees Izzy upon a referral from a friend who also goes there. The environment there is clean, relaxing and inviting. The service is great! appointments are always available and there is very little to no wait when arriving and every there is friendly and helpful. My sons hair always looks great is and is exactly what he asked for.

This place definitely lives up to its name American shave. 👐 My 5 year old son got a basic fade 0 on the side 3 on top and it might be the best haircut he has ever got. Great location, great atmosphere, excellent service A++! Jessica at the front desk was very friendly and Brain the barber did an awesome job! They also have complimentary soda and beer.

Called to make sure I was selecting the correct service . The gentleman on the phone was polite as could be and explained everything in full detail to me and actually made me feel like I was not an idiot. My barber Matt was very professional and paid very close attention to detail! Will definitely be coming back.

Very very good experience. First time here was nervous about a new to my hair barber, but Brian was the greatest. Him and Nick were the best and, most accomidating. As a walk in with no appointment they squeezed us into thier busy schedule, which might I add was during thier lunch break. Super clean, friendly helpful staff, nice owners with many years of experience with thier craft. You wont be disappointed with a visit here. Nice haircuts, atmosphere, and COVID CDC guidelines followed exceptionally. Will definitely be back, and recommend to any and everyone. I promise to make an appointment next time though. 😁

Ive been going here for almost 3 years. I get a haircut and massage each time I go and the service is always amazing and the value is great. The co-owner Nick is great too. He always try to help any way he can. If your on the fence I definitely recommend checking them out.

I am 73 years old, and in my entire life, have never had a worse haircut. Benjamin was the barber. A nice enough person, but not a qualified barber. I will be wearing a hat for at least three weeks. I look like a squirrel. You’re nuts to go there.After I left this review I was contacted by Nick, the owner, the same evening of my experience. He met me at the shop and did a “touch up” the next day. He did the best he could and I,can now go out without a hat. I’d now go back, but ask for Nick.

My husband and two sons have been coming here for the past few months and there’s no need to go anywhere else! They always leave looking as handsome as ever! The ambiance, presentation, and customer service at American Shave was great, but that is all it delivered on. If I was there for a good chat and a beer I would have given this place five stars, but sadly they fell drastically short on the actual haircut. I spent forty five minutes in a chair and gave the barber a lot of leeway to do a cut she felt comfortable with. Sadly, I left American Shave with horrible fade lines all across the back of my head that I didnt see till I got home, four cuts from the razor on the back of my neck, and hair that looked like it was styled by a tornado. Beautiful place, great list of offered service, but terrible delivery on what you are essentially there for, the haircut.

My wife found this place over a year ago for me. I didn’t know how I felt about going there but I went and Brian was and is my barber. When I tell you he is beyond a skilled barber is not doing him justice. And American shave as a barbershop is a top notch facility, I would highly recommend everyone go there and ask for Brian.

I have been going to American Shave for a little over a year now. First haircut today with Andrew! Everyone there does an awesome job, but Andrew killed it today. I have never been partial as to who does my hair there, but definitely going to request Andrew from now on.Not to mention I was in a time crunch and he knocked out my hair cut and eyebrows in 30 minutes flat, and it was damn good.

American Shave is the best mens barber shop in Sarasota. All of the barbers are focused on high quality haircuts. The environment is relaxing, they sell great hair products, and they have complimentary beer/soda for customers. You wont find a better place in Sarasota that offers mens grooming, waxing, and massage services at a great price. Dont waste your time at another place, like Supercuts, that doesnt really care about your hair. Just spend the extra $7 at American Shave to get a much better experience. Came down from NY and was looking for a place that would match my barber up north. The place looks great, the design is very cool; very man cave like. Quality barbers and cool products. Obviously great hair cuts. Two thumbs up.

The haircut and the shave came out great and he even hooked me up with a little eye brow trim.I chose the AMERICAN SIGNATURE package which included the Signature haircut followed by a hot towel shampoo, conditioning scalp massage and hot lather neck shave. The CREW Shave products really hit it home in the fragrance department, certainly added to the relaxation factor, some great manly smelling product.The AS PACKAGE also apparently comes with a two week maintenance, not sure what that is exactly. Just saw it on their site, ill have to stop back by and find out. All that for $30 to me, was pretty damn good deal and well worth it.The ambiance was chill, laid back, and aesthetically the space was very current, reminded me of a SOHO loft space in NYC, which I dig. The local is super convenient and the rapid service was on point as well.The owner, Justin, super nice dude, rang me up, answered all my questions regarding the other services they offer and explained the membership program. Which is pretty cool. I will certainly be taking advantage of a membership plan asap as I am looking forward to utilizing the other services they have to offer.SO... final take on my experience at the AMERICAN SHAVE SHOP, lets just say this. I was in the shop yesterday morning, Monday, ugh, dragin ass. Made an appointment for a specific time and showed up on time. I was told they dont have time to see me. I said why didnt I at least get a phone call to let me know that they are cancelling on me. Everytime I go its delightful I sit down pop open a FREE soda and my appointment is on time always. This place was a 5 star establishment Ive been many times. I went in today, expecting the same good cut and service. While service was still there I was charged more and got less. I cant even call the fade, a fade, I have patches of hair longer in areas around the back and side of my head. I actually had to shave when I got home because even though I paid for a shave, what I really got was an edging, the barber took a razor to my face with no shaving cream and electric shaved my throat, leaving patches of hair left in place. When I questioned the bill, I was told prices went up. I said but I got less (no real shave, no shampoo/wash). The receptionist just shrugged. I cant see myself going back here now unfortunately.

Dont get an appointment with Nico. He gave me the worst high and tight military cut ever. I came in with a thick mop of hair and he went ahead and shaved a 2 all the way up my head and left a little spot on the top of my head long without blending for fading anything out. Its too short to fix without just shaving it all off. Cutting my own hair next time.

From the moment I walked in they treated me right. Highly recommended. Also I was able to get a consultation during my facial and leashed how to keep my face looking like a just got one. Also the shave felt void and it was done before i knew it.Thank you American Shave.

I was 5 min late to a completely empty establishment and they wouldnt do a 5min beard trim. I will never go back and I have no idea if theyre any good or not. The epitome of PPOR customer service.

I just received my favorite hair cut here, Shay hooked it up, prefect cut and she was efficient. I was in and out in 35-40 minutes. I found my barber.
