Was there for a half hour spent $200 on a handful of drinks. Bartenders couldnt mix a simple drink. Acted rude and didnt seem interested in taking our money. Left asap and got better service across the street where we spent over $400 on better drinks and service.
Decided to take my friend out for her birthday last night. We planned on buying a section and had people coming to meet us and probably would’ve bought 2 or 3 bottles. The bouncer at the door took one look at my ID and put it in his pocket and said nothing. Wouldn’t even look at us. It was very much my ID, I’m 26 years old and it is no where close to the expiration date. The only difference is my hair is blonde on my license picture and i now have it dyed red. We stood there for a while with him ignoring us with a blank stare on his face and eventually walked away because it clearly wasn’t going anywhere. We had to end the night early since I no longer had an ID, not a great way to celebrate my friend’s first birthday in Arizona. Still don’t understand why he took my ID but now I’ll have to go to the MVD and pay for a new one. Not sure what I could do to get it back but just beware they will take your ID and you’ll be out of luck.
El Hefe is a nightclub that is in the bar District in downtown Scottsdale. I went for a night out, and it took forever to be able to get a drink from rude bartenders that if you do not tip them accordingly, expect to wait over an hour for your next drink. Its crowded as expected since it is a nightclub-bar. The music was good it has a little bit of a moldy smell but I imagine so many drinks have fallen on that floor and they dont keep it up because they dont have enough maintenance cleaning up floor so its sticky. We ended up getting a table and I know normally you pay a lot more for a bottle you could buy at BevMo for a lot cheaper but its ridiculous what they wanted for it.Parking is horrible over there make sure that you pay attention where youre going to park if you dont want to get towed Im not blaming them on that because thats just City of Scottsdale not having enough parking in that area.Bathrooms can be kept a little bit better, wet floors with I hope its water but its probably bodily fluids and theres just a lady in there handing paper towels instead of cleaning earning a tip not just because shes handing your nap and she expects you to give her a tip.
We had such a fun night here, they gave my bachelorette and bachelor party a free table and bottle. The staff, bottle girls, and security were all so sweet to our group. We went over to Bottle Blonde and ended up having a terrible time there, if you are looking for a good night come here instead!
The kitchen closes at 9 pm. Nothing food wise is available after that.Drinks were only ok for the price, and it is LOUD. It is a club really for young adults and those trying to recapture their youth. To be fair, I was never that person to enjoy that kind of atmosphere. After we left, it got busier and louder. I was just glad to be out of there by then.
Party of 9 got there about 730 on a match madness thursday.. there was more staff the customers. The service was horrible and the food should not have been served.. it was all late cold and most was wrong. If your in town for drinks and stay away from here.. only decent thing was queso but you can get that anywhere..
Anthony did me right, but the rest of the employees there made the experience horrible! $2,000.00 for the cheapest bottle of that bottom shelf 7x distilled vodka you can get from any grocery store for $19.99!!!!! Then my cousin went outside to take a phone call and they wouldnt let him back in saying he was too drunk when he only had 1 shot!!!!!!
TRASH. TRASH. TRASH. We were racially profiled by the black bouncers. Shame. The disrespect gotta stop because it’s just unnecessary. And it’s unacceptable. To tell the guy in our group that he can’t get it due to “lack of belt loops” is BEYOND ASININE, especially to let in the next guy in gym shorts, who apparently “work there”. It really be your own people.
Great vibe, high on energy and good food! Wanna escape the Phoenix weather, well hop in at El Here. I had the Fried Avocado Tacos - never saw these before. They weer decent, and did not hit the spot, though it was just fun trying something unique. And clubbed with the Don Julio Anejo, I walked out happy!
Went for lunch at around 2pm. There was plenty of parking spaces. Restaurant was almost empty at the time. Menu appeared somewhat expensive, specially for tacos and side orders. Had some tacos and the only one worth trying was the fried avocado one. It is something different, and it does have a sweet sauce wich brings out some of the flavors. Ordered a side of charro beans, and they are more of a refried beans type, with not too much flavor. No restaurant made spicy sauce either. I was giving a couple of hot sauce bottles. They do have a big bar, and it appears that they have djs and music in the evenings.
The first that served me was real nice. I dont know if she left after my second drink but the other guys were really weird like I felt ignored the entire time. They were all busy talking behind the bar like thats not even cool. Somebody needs to slap that bartender dude with those cheap looking tattoos.
Love this place the music is always good. People are always amazing and I love drinking here😍
Came during a event bar crawl. They were slammed. I am just beyond impressed with bartender Zach’s work ethic. He was so attentive and was able to manage stress. I noticed that he was working at twice the rate of other bartenders. He has a great sense of urgency and politeness.
Great place to have fun, dance, watch a fight. Their shrimp tacos are the best
Ordered tequila, 3 reposada, 2 anejo. They brought the cheaper drink all around and made an excuse that it was chilled - by. They also watched us park - (parking signs hidden against the building) - we got a ticket. Then they put a 22% gratuity with a 4% venue charge on our tab. The food didnt come close to making up for a bad experience. Last visit.
Once again El Hefe played host to a Wicked Awesome Happy hour event This time 2023 Holiday event hosted by Dave Waltzer Soojin and Gem Ray and as always they did an amazing job Their staff is awesome and Im always happy I spent the night enjoying with all who are there celebrating the end of the year with friends
Fun vibe, lots of excitement, they gave us a table which was super cool... the DJ kinda sucked and in the hour and a half we were there he played atleast 2 songs twice. And for whatever reason when I went to buy drinks they wouldnt take my card so I paid with a hundred dollar bill and they gave me all of my change in SINGLES 😳
This location charged someones elses drink to my card and has refused to give me a refund. I bought one drink at this location and didnt realize the bartender kept my card until I was at a different bar. I went back to get my card and the next day I had two charges on it. I called and left messages to get a refund and have not heard back. This place doesnt care about good service. They just want your money.
These bouncers are clowns if they can’t let dudes in with shoulder bags smaller than a purse in with the same party in.
This establishment serves opened bottles of alcohol to tables. Most likely served watered down drinks. Underwhelmed experience and the employees were on break most of the time.
Definitely a great place to eat some Mexican food when you are drunk or getting drunk. pretty great atmosphere for a college student and it gets pretty wild up in here. Decent place overall.
Don’t waste your time. Came here with a group of 6 girls for lunch on a bachelorette … we should have known when it was empty. Food was not worth the price, tacos were very small. Had mixed shooter and charged us a well tequila shot. The bill was a joke - they charged 22% gratuity, a venue fee, and items on the bill that were not ordered. Go anywhere else but here !
Great service and atmosphere! Jessica provided my husband and I with great service. She was very attentive and friendly. We are new to the area and she was also able to give us suggestions for things to do in the area. Would definitely recommend!
I don’t even leave reviews but this is the worst place I’ve ever been to. Can’t order drinks, waitress initially sat us down then never came back. Had to go to bar to get drinks. Worst experience at any place I’ve had. We even got “free shots” for the service and there was no alcohol. Hilarious.
Got kicked out for some girl throwing her drink at me. security dragged me out because “they had a table”. they tried to tell me to pay 3k in order to get them kicked out. the fact i know every bottle girl and security didn’t care. i got drinks thrown at me for recording in my defense. Never go here. i have video evidence of this. lawsuit coming for el hefe. just wait. never go here. bouncers are stupid.
I am from out of town visiting. I was there tonight to dance and celebrate my sister’s bachelorette party. Two men got into a fight and I was punched in the face as a bystander. I have several facial fractures, I am currently at a local ER. I received stitches and other tests. I will need surgical intervention once I return home. I was grabbed by a security guard and pushed onto the sidewalk, as I was told I was bleeding on their sidewalk. I requested an ambulance be called and their security guards told me to call an Uber. I honestly cannot believe this happened. It’s clear an attorney will be in contact with their management, but help yourself & please keep away! I’m in shock.
Kept my ID for a solid 30 minutes claiming it was fake. I am 23 years old. I eventually had to get police involved. called the place and never heard back from them. the guys working the door were complete and utter idiots.
This place single handedly made my trip a 10/10 experience. Alex is without a doubt the best VIP host and made sure my group had the best table without any problems. He responded quickly and has alot of connections on the strip. If you ever go to Scottsdale make sure you hit up alex for the hookup🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
The waitresses were incredibly rude when we asked for water.
Its always energetic on the weekends. music is always booming so you wont be able to hear people talking. if you are looking for a chaotic dancefloor where you and your entourage can show off and have a good time. this is the place for you.
Great experience! Me and my friends came over for my birthday last night and I lost my phone with my IDs, cash and credit cards. We called the next day, they have a robot on the line so we tried one of the options just to talk to a real person and finally they answered and told us to go back to the club instead and talk in person. My friend came back and got my phone back and everything is still in there! Even the cash which is awesome!
Zero starsBouncer said my ID was fake when I have a real ID from Missouri and I’m almost 30 years old he asked me to show me my settings on my phone for info. I have never been asked if that, very very sketchy. There was NO ONE in the bar at midnight on a Thursday. Very sketchy vibes. Bartender was very nice but horrible welcoming feeling. Will never come back or recommend this place to anyone. Why was there no one here. Ridiculous.
If you’re looking to have a GREAT time and feel like the baddest bride / bachelorette group in Scottsdale then James, @JAMES.NIGHTLIFE, is the man for you!!!!! He made me and my group feel so special, & like real VIPS! We had the absolute best time with him at El Hefe’s! We went two nights in a row, if we had more stamina as a group then we would have went for a third night as well!! Thank you James!! Will definitely be coming back to visit if we’re ever in Scottsdale.
One of the brunette servers had no smile on. It felt like our group weren’t welcomed. She dropped off our bottles and walked away. She told one person from our group that she would come back and to get her tip. Such a poor attitude.
Came to Scottsdale for a trip with some friends and we didn’t have much time but wanted to check out old town! We’d heard good things about El Hefe so we went in and got some margaritas and tacos. Hailey served us and she was the sweetest!!! She took such good care of us and told us about places around phx to check out. Highly recommend heading in there for great service and exceptional staff. Thanks Hailey!
In need of management. We had a large party that had a reservation. We arrived and no one came to the front so I spoke to the bartender. One story short the manager was supposed to handle something that never happened. 45 minutes from the reservation we were seated as we took over the bar. 3 times I had to go ask for service as no one was assigned to us. Food was ok nothing great, drinks were ok was shocked I was charged for ice when I ordered bourbon but not when I ordered a margarita????? Same price but an extra charge? Others returned their drinks as it was all soda based off taste and color (never sees a clear crown and sprite). The bartender and servers when we had them were nice just not sure why we didnt have one at the beginning. The one time the manager was out he was sweeping this was a solid hour after we were seated. Apparently he was in the back in a call. I dont see any of my group returning to this establishment.Update: Direct Feedback given to Kevin.
We were a bachelorette party and were wonderfully accommodated even as a larger group. James, one of the club promoters, was so sweet and generous. He was able to make our brides night a night to remember!! Thanks [email protected] on IG -- ladies if youre thinking of turning up at El Jefe, reach out to James first!!
1. Prices are very very high. 1 corona beer price is $16 and tip is separate.2. The girls you see in the bar are paid girls, so do not attract by them.3. All are professional girls who just there to make you buy drinks to profit bar.4. Great level of racism here.5. Also will kickout if you are not holding any drink.
I would stay away from this place. I have been there several times and it seems worse every time I go in. First of all it is really small and difficult to walk around in. Second the drinks were a joke. I ordered a vodka Sprite and Im not sure if they just forgot the vodka or not, so i asked them to make it again (and got an attitude for it). When I got it back it was worse than before. I literally just left it on the counter, paid and walked away. My experience with rude bartenders has been pretty consistent every time I have gone in there. Also really disappointed with the crowd they let in. Old Town used to stick to their dress codes, but the last time I was at El Hefe on a Saturday night, there were people walking around in flip flops and ratty sneakers (not Jordans but more like old gym sneakers), and wearing clothes you would expect to see on Mill Ave or a dive bar, not in an Old Town Scottsdale club on a weekend. The worst experience I had, which I wont go into detail on since this is a Google review, was lets just say an adult x rated situation that was happening at one of the VIP tables and everyone could see it happening. Several people reported it to security AND management, and they did nothing. My entire party, and several other people who were horrified that no one was doing anything about this, decided to leave as that is not what we expect to see in an Old Town club in full view of anyone walking by.Overall I would just say, avoided this place at all costs.
The line to get in to the bar was over an hour and half long. As soon as we got up to the bouncer to enter, we realized why it takes so long to get it. The bouncer lets all friends and any connections in through the side. The bouncer straight up ignored us for like 30 mins when we were front of the line. The bar is smaller side and they allow in as they go out. Probably about 25 people were let in as we were at the front of the line. I get connections, but that’s terrible for service. Trash. Good music though. Drinks are expensive.
Enjoyed my experience. Thank you to Alex! Would come here again
Great margarita and only 8 bucks for happy hour! Staff was nice too. Refreshing after going a few other places nearby.
Hailey delivers amazing, consistent quality hand crafted cocktails. The atmosphere is always on point .
Kind of fun, not a lot of dancing. Music is better than a lot of the street. They wouldn’t let me use the bathroom to change my pad at 2:01 while I was already inside headed out. That’s pretty messed up.
Went there 4/15/22. The bar tender with blonde hair and pig tails, stole my Apple Card, when I asked for my card to close out she said she didn’t have it. I literally handed it to her. Explaining that to her, she called security over to have me escorted out. Fortunately, I was able to turn off the card she stole before she proceeded to rack up more charges. Do not trust this bar tender with your cards/cash. I am moving forward with pressing charges on this bartender.
**UPDATE** AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CREDIT CARD STOLEN. I’d give this place zero stars if I could. My friends and I visited here in April and my friends card ended up compromised. They spent thousands of dollars at places like Best Buy and ulta. The friends we were visiting had their card compromised this weekend when the bartender closed her tab but did not return her card and stated she never had it (how did she pay her bill??). How are you running a business like this? You have multiple reviews stating the same things about cards being stolen by your own bartenders. You need to look into your staff. I will inform all of my friends visiting Scottsdale to avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other bar options where this shady stuff does not happen.****Update: I emailed Kevin below who insisted that his staff has not taken credit cards. And proceeded with “ as you know, you are never responsible for charges to your card that you didn’t make. The credit card company will surely remove any of them.” It seems to me that he is in on his staff taking cards since your card company will surely pay you back… and does not plan to take action or responsibility on his staff. Avoid this place at all costs. The writing is in the multiple reviews of cards being taken. These cards were charged locally at Best Buy and ulta.
We paid about $500 for bottle service and a table for a friends birthday. We had to ask for a server any time we wanted our bottle of liquor unlocked. *took 10+ mins anytime we asked* We were told that we were not allowed to dance even with masks on in our designated area? They let other people dance. They stood around talking to their random friends up in the club and not serving us. They were on their phones texting. If you had given me the key I would have been a better bottle service girl than more than half your staff. Not coming back again. You can steal that money from someone else next time. Wont be us. Ever again.
We had dinner reservations for 6:30. Ordered food at 7pm. Half of the order was delivered at 7:45pm. Waited. Waited. None of our sides were delivered and half our meals were not delivered. We talked to the server and manager. They told us that they are a club not a restaurant. Then they brought out 5 sides for 12 people and it was not the sides we ordered. Horrible experience. Do not come here for dinner. The staff were nice, but did not feel our complaints were warranted.Follow up below was only to offer a gift card. We refused as we do not want to return to this restaurant.
The decor of this place is very nice. The pink lighting made it look like a rocker set off an Avril Lavigne music video. It wasnt too crowded on a weekday. Service felt a bit slow, but maybe they were just busy cooking everything fresh. (?)I was able to try their tacos. They warn you the tacos are small, and yes, it is true. However, on Tuesdays you do get a cheaper price of about $2.50 or so per taco. What really set these tacos apart was they were not dry and in fact they came out very nicely seasoned. I liked how they sprinkled in some vegetables, perfectly paired with some yummy sauce! I downed my tacos in no time! I also never heard of fried avocado, but I gave that menu item a try too. It was amazing!
We went in for a college football game and it was nice that it felt like a full event featuring the team. Ive only gone once before at night and though its not my scene it seems like other people were enjoying it. The game was at 9am and I enjoyed the setting much more for the day time. The menu for things does seem a bit over priced for what it is. We decided not to eat there for that specific reason. Over-all everyone was pretty nice, and it was a pleasant time.
I wouldn’t recommend this place for bottle service. They do have good music and club lights everywhere but the service is trash. You have to wait dramatic amounts of time to have them unlock the bottle you buy for the table, it’s like pulling teeth to get mixers and fresh cups for the liquor. Understaffed and sorta rude.Scottsdale has plenty of other clubs a minute or two walk away to try.
Came early to get a couple drinks, not busy at all just a few people. Tyler good bartender excellent with the hospitality making sure everything was ok. The liquor and beer 👌. Im pretty sure food is ok, dine in or out or just to hang with your friends is a chill place nice environment, ladys look beautiful but dont be shy when on the clock you never know who could be walking in that door. Overall would recommend to anyone new in the area. Cheers 🍻
I came here 4/28 with my sister. She opened a tab and gave her card AND ID to the bartender. When closing out the bartender came back and said, “I only have your ID” which made no sense. My sister tried to say that she gave both the card and ID to open a tab. Why would my sister only give her ID? Makes no sense. We’ve tried to call numerous times but you can’t even reach an actual person. We love old town, frequent the area, and decided to try el hefe; this wasn’t a great experience.
Was there on 5/15/22 and the bar stole my credit card. Handed it to them to pay for my drinks and got the receipt back with no card in it. When I told the bartenders they were not helpful and acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about. I’ve seen multiple reviews stating that this also happened to them. DO NOT GO HERE. My friend was also there last week and the same thing happened to her.
I was a little disappointed with the size of the tacos and felt it was not worth $10 for two palm sized tacos that didnt come with any sides. Also nobody knew what this mysteriousTech fee on my receipt was. Never seen that before but it wasnt much. After looking into it I could have paid with debit to avoid this fee. Aside from that the food was really good and staff were friendly and attentive.
We came in for Sunday funday. It was my friends birthday. We have come in before and it does get pretty crowded if you dont have a table. The bottle service girls there are not as friendly as they are at some of the other bars around old town either. For a sunday it is one of the only clubs not playing hip hop though so that is always a good reason to go back.
Went to watch a recent UFC fight here that was a truly great experience. The service and staff were great and even with the bottles being locked I had a drink in my hand the entire night. Getting through the bar when you needed too was easier than other places in old town. Probably the best place for bottle service in old town.
Bottle service for bacheloretteWe hadnt made plans before going out in downtown Scottsdale (not something I recommend, especially during COVID), and found ourselves in line at El Hefe. It seemed bleak, but because we were a bachelorette party, people were courteous and shuffled us to the front of the line where we found out we couldnt get in without a table reservation. Given COVID, that makes sense.Fortunately, they were able to get us a table right below the DJ booth, which, if youre a bachelorette, is one of the best places to be. The music was great, our servers took good care of us, and security was helpful, despite the COVID regulations that required us to stay seated. They were patient with our party and kindly reminded us to sit as girls kept getting up to dance, they let us sit on the backs of the couches, and security even removed a handful of creepy guys who tried to crash our bottle service. Its a hopping place, so Id recommend booking tables if youre going while the pandemic is in place. It was $1000 minimum for us, but we were there during spring break when demand and prices are going to be higher. With 10 of us in our party, $100 a person for bottle service in Scottsdale during a busy night isnt bad at all.We all talked about our night for the remainder of the trip and all of us said wed love to go back and do it again. They do lock their bottles, and Ive seen comments of people being annoyed by that, but as someone who formerly was a cocktail waitress, I wish we had done that. It prevents people from getting sloppy or spilling the liquor everywhere or passing the bottle between people in your party (which is obviously a COVID no-no). All in all, had a great time and would definitely do it again.
We always enjoyed el hefe in Tempe. unfortunately its closed now. so we tried Scottsdale. big mistake!! the queso dip was awful, just a lot of salt and the prices are ridiculous. one bottle of Modelo $12!! on a normal Sunday afternoon.
Tucson Magpies Rugby player here. The team came up to play in Loud fest and I was injured during the game. I literally could not put my foot in a shoe, so I wore sandals alongside my mates to have a beer, but was denied access. This place can be as bougie as it wants, but we wont be back, given the circumstances.
My first time was an unfortunate mess. I was there around 10pm on a Thursday and they weren’t busy at all, Maybe 12 or so people at the bar. Both bartenders walked past me and ignored me as I tried to order a drink. I was told the Margaritas are very good here. After 15 minutes of no help I walked out. I do hope next time I come back I have a better experience but for now I wouldn’t recommend this bar.
Had such a great time at El Hefe last night. Our VIP host Prateek showed us a really good time. Very customer centric person. Reach him out on Instagram (@SCOTTSDALEBOTTLESERVICES) to get the best services.
My group spend well over $3000 (not including tips) on drinks, tables with the taps on, and three bottles with bottle service on my birthday...and tipped everyone like crazy...and what did this place do to thank us? They kicked us all out and called the cops, getting 2 people in my group arrested when they did NOTHING wrong...the bouncers are a serious issue at this place.I would have been a very valuable customer to have, but now I will never go back there and will NEVER suggest this place to my friends, I would actually go out of my way to tell them not to.
Security Guard thought we all had fake ID’s from Washington. When we’re just here to celebrate birthdays and explore around. Got here with the SAME ID’s on a plane. Guess he didn’t want our service. Very rude. Won’t recommend
Exciting high energy party time! Drinks and service great! Highly recommend!
Great spot. unique ambiance. Friendly and fun staff. Good food and drink. Kenzie & Shannon is an all star waitress there too.
Amazing nightclub that appears to be hopping on the outside. Was really looking forward to trying their food. BUT the issue I had was that they would not let all of us in. At least not the males in our party. Only females allowed. Bizarre. We went across the street to another club and had a blast. Unfortunate
My lady & I stopped in for taco Tuesday Funday for the very first time & to say I was impressed with the food is an understatement. Because I have a sweet tooth and have to have a dessert WITH my meal, The first thing I ordered was their dessert nachos, only for the waitress to come back out and tell us they no longer even make those sadly, So beware. There are no desert nachos and no other desserts.I ordered The three tacos that included the Chicken tinga, carne asada, and the Baja along with charred corn as a side. It really isnt all that much food and so I had to order the entire plate again and have seconds. My lady ordered. The chicken tinga and the green chili pork x2 with no sides. We ordered 1 Hefe OG margarita, and 2 coco naranjas. Margaritas were quite large. I also ordered 4 Coors lights. Well done El Hefe, we will be coming back for Taco Tuesday again.
Security will kick you out if you look at them funny… they probably have tiny you know whats… DJ that was playing music on Wednesday was going off tho, never seen him before. Second dude was getting booed by some dude then they threw him out! I don’t blame him tho, nobody was messing with the music that dude was playing anyways…
First time going to this bar since I’m new to the area. St. Patrick’s Day evening, so it was a busy night. I was waiting at the bar for 15 minutes to only get a glass of water, and the bartender serving didn’t even acknowledge my existence and skipped over me several times. When I expressed my frustration, she then continued to lash out at me by scolding me like a child and refused to help me. I understand it was a busy night, but constantly skipping over a customer, not acknowledging my presence, and then yelling at me and refusing to serve me because I expressed my frustration is not ok. I suggest the staff gets trained in customer service because they clearly have none. I will not be returning to this location.
El Hefe is amazing! It is one of my favorite bars to go to not only for the parties, but also for how amazing the tacos are. El Hefe always has a good crowd with good vibes. The music the DJ plays is always unreal and gets the crowd going! I highly recommend this place!
The proportions are very small, the drinks were poorly made and very expensive. We asked for 4-5 items that they had listed on their menu, and the waitress came back and endorsed they didn’t have those items (stella, corona and rice etc). A Spanish restaurant that doesn’t have rice…To top it off when we got the bill, the items we asked for but they didn’t have were still listed on our bill and they charge a “venue fee”.
This location is really small, so there isnt much room to even stand on the weekends. They do different themes which is cool, but the drinks arent great for what you pay. Of all the bars in the area, this is probably my least favorite.
Overall terrible experience:) taking real ID’s and being extremely rude to (potential) customers. Will not be returning! If I could give 0 stars I would! Too bad, sorry to the ego-hungry bouncers!
We were “kicked out” after spending 3000$ on bottle service in one hour because they wanted to turn the table. They accused my brother, who is 4 years sober, of being too intoxicated to stay. We will get our money back el hefe. The reply below was for show only, of course no reply. Don’t worry el hefe, it’s not over. Telling someone who has a 4 year sobriety coin they are too drunk to stay just to flip a table is an all time low
The way my friends and I were treating here was absolutely disgusting. The bartender refused to acknowledge us and we finally had to ask the girl next to us to order our drinks for us. The only way we got our drinks was to have someone else order them. I could not believe that we were being treated this way. I will not be back.
Could not believe they pulled out a huge chinese dragon and a luminated sign that said something disgraceful about marines. None of us could understand what else it could mean other than compete disrespect for the few brave who, through bloodshed and major sacrifice, gave us the opportunity to speak freely in our freedom. To literally spit on this country... unconscionable. I hope it meant something different. But we all knew it couldnt be otherwise. We were absolutely repulsed and wont waist a dime here ever again. What a shame. Been visiting many years... and now, -never again. #freedomeisntfree #workforit #respect
The experience here is one of a kind. The badass decor with outstanding food (duck tacos are my favorite) and the party environment will make you want to keep coming back to this place. Good crowd in here always with great sounds from their djs and the vibes here are always good. I would highly recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a good place to eat, party, and have a good time.
Loved it. Excellent place to spend your evening at. Delicious entries, and the rouben sandwich was fresh and totally well done. Beer Lovers, this is the right place to visit!!
The bar was fine, but one of the bouncers kept hassling our group. He was so busy flirting with a patron, that instead of doing his job, he threw out a member of our party who told him that a jacket that was left on a chair belonged to a member of our party that was standing 5 feet away.
This place was hopping even on a tuesday night. The whole downtown was hopping on a Tuesday. If your under 35 go have fun. The kids seem to follow each other from one night club to the next. El Hefe was banging most of the time we were in town.
Random discrimination has been an ongoing issue in the state of Arizona on top of an already existing and prevalent religious, ethnic and gender-based discrimination. On a casual Sunday evening (4/27/14) after participating in a golf tournament at a nearby resort, a group of us decided to visit one of our old and frequent spots to drink and eat. One of us got told by a bouncer that we could not enter due to having cross training shoes on with red laces (New $125 shoes that were worn by a member of our group to play golf since he couldnt locate his proper golf shoes). Our group had mostly professionals in it with tech geeks, doctors, attorneys and small business owners etc...and we were ready to spend after a rough work week (you get the idea). The bouncers themselves were wearing cheesy vans/converse looking shoes on without socks while letting in people ahead of our group that had a myriad of odd looking attire and shoes on such as tang tops, flip flops and skater looks (which I have nothing against, but used as an argumentative point of comparison to no avail). We had just closed out a $1,200+ tab at a nearby bar (Hi5) and we were ready to step it up even more with multiple table bottle service and appetites to boot for over 15 people. Later on, an additional employee/bouncer came by to see what the commotion was about and offered to let everyone in if we bought bottle service right off the bat and agreed formally to the purchase before entering (I am thinking this bouncer was hoping for his commission for an up-sell to table service which reminded me of dorky Verizon employees inside their official stores when trying to get us to buy more). This was a highly distasteful add-on to the already bogus scenario we were involved in. Half of our group consisted of business owners also and didnt get the concept of how people were chosen to get in. If well dressed professionals ready to spend at the bar isnt enough, then good luck to this bar thriving. We understand common reasons to not let people in if there are gang affiliations, drunk and obnoxious patrons, etc. but we are the polar opposite. Consider a boycott from us at this location and the Mill Ave. location in downtown Tempe especially since we send so much traffic to the Tempe location from our hotels that my group owns in the area. The Hefe staff may get a kick out of having a power trip, but in essence theyre young, unappreciative blue-collar employees that were not screened properly during hiring who are working for a temporary business not having a clue as to how things work in real life.
Absolutely horrible service. Every time I’ve been her they have taken AT LEAST 25 minimum to take my order. I understand there are busy days, but they do not attend all their customers with the same curtesy no.
Club like atmosphere with waitress es that remind me of hooters.Food is good, not amazing, but solid mexican food. I was there on Taco Tuesday where all tacos are 2 dollars. Good place to watch sports too with their huge TVs on the wall. Definitely made for the younger crowd. And yes, it is a club like atmosphere with super loud music, just FYI. First time I have had such an experience with a Mexican restaurant.
Used to be the spot to go to about 4-5 years ago, and somehow it has still survived despite the build up of mega bars in old town. I would still prefer this place over all of the bars around it but it is not as good as it used to be and the service has gone downhill... Getting a drink at the bar on a Sunday is almost impossible, especially if you have a food order as well. The hot dog and tacos are still good though, just the service can definitely use some training.
Really hate to give bad reviews, I certainly understand the restaurant business is difficult. But after paying $50 for some bad snacks and a drink, I just feel the need to help others. And yes, I realize this is basically a bar serving bar food but the macho nachos were pathetically whimpy with basically no meat. The margarita was watered down, and the fish taco contained 1 small, overcooked piece of something that was supposedly fish? It explains why there was 4 people in the entire place while every other restaurant in the area was packed. We literally paid our tab (server never asked about the food) and went over to Mr Mesquites to order tacos. Small portions, high price, indifferent staff.
There is a dress code for certain people for example, I couldn’t get in because I had sneakers on but, if you look inside you can clearly see hundreds of people wearing sneakers. Also people behind me were let in with sneakers on and when I asked security about it they got really aggressive. They told my group we were “crybabies “ super professional.
No matter what day of the week this is a place to party until this past weekend (labor day weekend) when I took a group and we were told we had to pay the door men $20 a person just cause 1 of our 9 had jordans on. We were told no other Club would let us in for the same reason and it was only 10pm so we should pay now, needless to say we partied in EVERY club that night bahahahaha... Thank you to the bald long bearded greedy door man for the recommendations
Was there tonite and ordered the Tuesday drink special 2 pinnacle vodka $4 each and the specific bartender tried to rip off twice by charging us more. And then when we tried to confront her she kept on yelling its vodka, vodka without telling us the brand. Then on top of that she tried to call the security guard over to try to get us kicked out. Security guard came over and just told is to go order from another bartender. Bottom line she is stealing from the El Hefe, she is entering in the drink special into the system but then charging the customer the higher price but likely pocketing the difference in cash. Too bad because the bar is pretty dope on a Tuesday night.
If I could give no stars, I would. Poor poor management and security. Very unfair and picky on who they let in. If you are a cultured person of color, pick another place to visit while in Scottsdale. This state/city is ridiculous
Its a fun place to meet people, dance, drink, and celebrate birthdays. Make sure to reserve a table if you have a big party. Best music in terms of feel good and being relevant! Fun spot 🥃🎉
Excelente venue, get it while you can. This is the place you might meet your wife at or your next mistake. Your choice. Contact them for a private booth to really ball out. Either way youll go home happy, thats it you remember the night.
Went out with my boyfriend for a night of fun and drinking. We were told to check out the strip of Old Town for it was the place to visit if we wanted to have some fun. We were highly disappointed. All the bars played the same EDM/Dubstep like music. The drink wells are about $7 a piece at each bar and werent the best of drinks. We went home early due to the lack of variation of music and weak drinks. If you like constant EMD/Dubstep music, youll like this bar and many others in Old Town. It just wasnt for us.
Will never go back here again! Went here to celebrate my birthday, they refused to let one of our guests in stating his out of state license was a fake- with no proof and couldnt give us any explanation. The bouncer was rude and our guest had to go to back to our hotel to get his passport which clearly states the same information and come back to Old Town Scottsdale. I say stay clear its not worth the hassle. The staff is on a HUGE power trip!
Nice bar slow bartenders
Security always rude. I get that you need to do your job but dont push the girls guys. Services is meh. Just a convenient location tbh. Thats all.
Appealing primarily to younger adult crowd, very much a 5 star experience. Suggestion, during day times see what you can offer to the tourist and older crowds. Just because some one is 80, Doesn’t mean they can’t boogie!
Black women do not come here. Not only did they not let any black women in they also did not let any other POC in. The bouncers discriminate and when confronted about it they threw a fit and refused to let my group in. This place will only let you in if white, skinny, and blonde. Not a SINGLE person of color was in there.
Gorgeous hostesses and wait staff. Food is decent but the bloody marys are some of the best Ive had. The service isnt stellar but they are all young and beautiful so decide if the trade off is worth it.
Always a great time at El Hefe!! I have been a few times and the table service is great, attentive staff, getting drinks at the bar is fairly ok for a place that gets so crowded at night. There is definitely a line for a long time on the weekends but at least the music and vibe makes standing in line decent.
THIS PLACE WILL TAKE YOUR CASH AND STILL CHARGE YOUR CARD.I go to Old Town on a weekly basis; I am young and love to have fun, who doesnt?! I have never had any issues in old town until my birthday bash at El Hefe. My friends and I wanted to get a table with bottle service because hey, you only turn 26 once. Now, I knew gong in how much the table was, I brought the cash along with my friends who were pitching in too. However they wanted my card to hold the table, which left me a little anxious, I told the manager Dont charge my card, I have cash for this table he understood with a head nod and said of course. I am introduced to our little petite blonde waitress/bartender, I also tell her Bring me the check and Ill pay for this table with cash, just do not charge my card. She understood and said Okay, no problem. As the night goes on and drinks are pouring, our waitress gave me the bill with my card and ID, I gave her the cash, didnt sign anything, told the waitress, Here is the cash and she left, didnt see her the rest of the night. Saturday morning I see a charge on my card for $254.50! So she took my cash, along with all my other friends who pitched in and still charged my card. I called the bar, no answer. Disputed with my bank... big help there >_> ... and now I am here, warning you, fellow yelpers, that there are plenty of other bars in old town, mill avenue, desert ridge, west gate, and downtown, just as good, not as crowded, and not a huge rip off from any bartenders or managers.Am I bitter? ... Yes ... Will this stop me from having fun? ... No but if I can prevent another person getting ripped off like I did, well this post was worth it. Good luck! Be safe! and check your bank accounts in the morning, just in case ;)Oh and almost forgot, Ryan Hibbert (managing partner for the El Hefe, Whiskey Row, etc) I will be posting on multiple review sites to bring awareness of the service these bars are giving. No one likes to be taken advantage of.
Worst margarita ever! For $10 you think you get decent. Even the premade budlight margaritas are better. Bartenders service is even worse. Lets just say if you like people treating you crappy and over paying for service/drinks then go ahead and enjoy!!!
El Hefe, this is pretty explanatory isnt it you came here to get drinks dont lie it wasnt the tacos. Appreciate the tequila selection and the friendly pours of the bartenders. be careful and be sure to get a Uber or taxi as you will most likely be over the limit when you leave this place.
Service and staff was rude. Charged credit card without asking. Actual prices were different than originally shared.
This is NOT a sports bar for Bears fans. They say they are and thats a joke!!!!! Any break in action causes the audio to stop and punk, rap and other obnoxious music blasts away! Service staff is average, at best. Prices are out of line even for Old Scottsdale. STAY AWAY BEARS FANS.
Food is cross contaminated server was good at beginning once club started and moved chairs they change attitude and took the table qe had our party since someone else paid a bottle service we where a party of 15
This place can be PACKED LIKE SARDINES AND WILD. It has a vibrant patio scene as well. It seems like a lot of the bars and clubs on this street seem to come and go. This is a very hot area. This place has stood the test of time.
Of the bars in old town Scottsdale this one is my favorite. They always have great music playing and the DJs are usually better than average. Bartenders are helpful. Tried the food once, it was ok.
This place denied my friend entry because he was wearing Jordans and apparently it was against dress code. Which is funny because NO WHERE does it say there is a dress code for this place. He then said he wouldnt be let into any bars, weve gotten into a couple with no problems.. Stupid as hell.. Theyre just shoes, people!
Pricey and the food was so so.The male bar tender was very nice. Drinks were crazy expensive.
3 stars for the music. Drinks were bad. And I’ve never been charged an additional $5.50 for ice when I order my drink on the rocks. And i ordered a double. Ended up being almost $30 for one drink.
The security guards there are terrible, and the management is aweful. DJ with the glasses was there really bad and kicked off this new guy that was playing heat on Wednesday night… sad my friends and I had to leave early.
Last night we went we reserved a table with the promoter For the artist Shopboys they wouldn’t even let them in because the way there clothing look like. I think Scottsdale in general sucks in general that it even the cops they don’t know how to handle people. So just saying who ever is the owner to this place u guys missed out big money last night. And the managers are rude and disrespectful
Went with some guys for Halloween. Excellent service and beautiful crowd, had a hot blonde grab my ass while dancing next to me and my group(which im pretty sure is sexual harassment) but its cool I wont sue ;)
Good drinks... gets pretty crowded...but has a good atmosphere. This location attracts the Scottsdale element so if youre not into those type of people this probably isnt a place you want to go
Horrible experience do not go here.. they took real ID, obviously bouncers need to retake their 0.5 credit course in how to sniff out a fake.
The place is alright but the service we got was absolutely awful. There were 6 of us and the waitress was completely annoyed and short tempered before she even came to the table. Seems like this was the last place that she wanted to be. Absolutely zero customer service, will never come back here again. Ever!!
Security is so AGGRESSIVE here. Honestly been here twice and hated it. If you are out of state prepare to have the cops called on you.. feel embarrassed.. just go to other bars honestly there are so many better ones.
Super attractive and fun atmosphere! Drink before drinks are nasty and pricey! But if you tryna party! This is where its at
Currently sitting in the restaurant as I write this... when we walked in the greeter was on the phone talking to someone about a passport (seemed not work related), pretty much ignored us. 2nd didnt get a server for about 20 mins, when we got a server we could barely hear her ( music is playing), food took forever to come out... this was my first time here and experience is horrible.. I arrived at 8:06 and its 9... service was horrible... great food ... Manger was able to assist with issue though
After El Hefe turns into a night club on weekend nights youll be lucky to get any drinks without getting VIP bottle service. Bouncers were incompetent and intentionally ignored people asking for help.
Be aware of the bartenders. She decided to tip her self 100% of the bill. Bunch of thieves
Gets crazy on weekends so if youre looking for a party this place is it! If youre into something a little more mellow check out their menu on a weekday, food is way better than we thought. Try the Ceviche Tostadas!
Good atmosphere...bartenders are quick and make good drinks definitely would go back again when Im in Scottsdale
I actually enjoy coming here! The staff is always friendly, well some of them. A land the atmosphere is always fun. Little more wiggle room here too.
Not really my vibe, bouncers were super arrogant, Friday nite and it was not even full. Better across the street or in a complete seperate bar/street.
The tactless security force will throw you out just because they dont like the look of you. They said I was too drunk, but I was the DD. The line was 30 minutes so it ruined my night. Stay away from here, not worth it.
Went on a Tuesday, good drink specials and still busy for a Tuesday, but kind of strange, creepy crowd. For a younger, more fun atmosphere, I recommend the Mill location.
So me and my brother walk up to show our IDs and the bouncer says to me I cant let you in with that necklace on...iv I herdh of such a thing a necklace really. My necklace isnt long its about 20 inches long with diamonds on it but really a necklace wow smh worst experience ever , for us to be on vacation thats crazy!!!!!!
The music is great, the food is delicious, and the bartender are fast, what more could you ask for? I recommend ear plugs, as the music is very loud.
The menu is the same but the servings and flavor is different compared to the el hefe in downtown Tempe. Here o got a bigger portion of guac with my chips but the tacos were much better in downtown Tempe. The vibe here is more of a bar while the other location is more restaurant type.
Security makes tourists feel bad, and they also charge $200 to come in because they dont accept my ID, Thats unacceptable.
Cool little spot - bottle service prices were average. Good music
After hours event 6am New Years day. Snail showed up. They had dancers and the place was packed. Killer way to start the year.
Great time here, drinks are a little more expensive but atmosphere is great, recommend precharging before going
Wear plain shoes when out past 9pm or your subject to be classified by the shoe color you wear. Another garbage location in old town. Hopefully one day we can get past a persons shoe color. Weve fought so long over color now theyre taking in to the color of shoe you wear. What a pathetic excuse establishments have come to now a days
Nice for friends birthday. Gets crowded fast. Cute guys and girls that wirk there. Ok music. Small dance floor. Good drinks. A night out.
What a great line up of fantastic tacos. The flavors are awesome...had pork, chicken and beef...all three were perfect. Bar is great. We will be back.
Spent a few hundred dollars on a table on a Saturday night, very disappointed. Bottles were locked, someone came by about 3 times in 2 hours to refill our drinks for us. Sat 10 people in a regular booth and then sat 2 in a corner booth too... So since only 6 of us could sit you could say we REALLY overpaid
Meh…underwhelming. Service is blah food blah!Ordered the Carne Asada fries and I’mStill searching for the steak lol
Fun place to watch the Cubs in the world series! Definitely had to yell to talk with people. Nice staff and good location. Slow on Wednesdays.
Came here for a meet up for happy hour which was 4-7. Great service. Very good looking servers. Would come again!
I think this place would be great for kids but being 65 years old oh, the music was way too loud and I could barely hear my friend speak. But Im sure all of my children would have loved it.
Great place good drinks and ok staff if you get the right one.
What a joke. Wont let people in based off of shoes? Second time this has happened to a group Ive been with. Makes me laugh and dont care to spend my money at this rediculous place. (Chicago location did same thing).
Food is very good. Service is overloaded because the place is super busy. This a really cool bar and more for dating rather for just having food.
I love the feel of this restaurant being a new twist on Mexican. Food was great, but parking was a bit of a problem. They do offer valet, but Id rather park my own car.
Racist bar. My friends and I were there for a little while then some bouncer came up to us to say we had to leave because one of us was wearing Jordans and they dont accept people with Jordans or timberlands on AKA black/urban crowd. Ridiculous.
Love it here, I always have such a good time & the VIP host treats my friends & I like family. Very on top of things & the vibe was perfect!
Great atmosphere, great food, great staff! The two for one weekly specials are awesome and you can always expect a great time Wednesday nights and all throughout the weekend!
They could benefit from better staff and customer service skills. I was not happy with the way our group was treated. Will not be back or recommend this place to friends in the future.
I love this place. It was my first time at El Hefe Mexican Restaurant but it definitely will not be my last. The food is amazing, the location is amazing. I really want to go back soon.
The drinks were super expensive but overall good experience. Although, for a place called El Hefe there needs to be more Mexican music rather than American music like “Don’t Stop Beliving.”
El Hefe is the new international. Absolute garbage. Play house music and your crowd might better. Sincerely TM
I love El Hefe, not only do they know how to party at night and sundays but the food and service is absolutely amazing! Make sure to try the carne asada fajitas theyre to die for!! oh and there mint and cucumber margarita! so good!
Not many people there when we arrived made me doubt if food was good but actually food was excellent! Service superb even with a large party of people.
The food is decent. The 96 oz Moscow Mule is insane!!!!! Smells kind of like the night before: puke mixed with alcohol
Small portions that are over priced. Service and quality of food below average. Cut my arm on torn vinyl seat. Wouldnt bother returning.
Place is hoppin! Music was fly! Women are gorgeous 😍 just wish the guys would show more like the girls! 😉
Becareful when giving your visa at this place. Waitress forged my signature and gave herself an extra $500 tip
The food and service was good. Had to leave a bit early because the music got too loud to hear anyone at the table talking.
They use to serve the best spicy jalapeño margaritas!! Wish they would bring it back. Food is okay, great spot to hang out with friends
One of the better bars in the area. Smaller in size and this leads to a better experience. Great staff and great tunes. Go here.
We decided to not let people w tank tops in as of 5 minutes ago... Just be honest and say that youve reached your minority max capacity!
We hosted a networking event for young professionals there and we really enjoyed it. The staff was helpful in making sure our event ran smoothly.
I tried to like it, but after paying 47 USD for 3 white claws after being ignored for 5 minutes Im likely to never return.
Always a great place to go and get a drink.Good music, reasonably priced drinks, attractive staff.
This bar is a horrible. They kicked me out for looking at them funny.
Great atmosphere gave you a lil LA Miami flavor with the music...cute staff, clean, ordered the tingy sorta, it wasnt hot but tasted very good, hung out my childhood best friend today, his favorite place, visiting from TN
Look closely...This place will charge you 3% extra to use a credit card and they will call it a “technology fee” on your bill. That is unacceptable.
The worst food ever and drinks. Bug inside beer, beer warm. Worst drinks all the way around
Horrible. Made a reservation for a group and showed up and was told a private party was already going on. Thanks for nothing, Kyle.
Great location with good food. Staff is decent and it was kinda small inside. Fun time none the less.
Service is BAD, drinks are awful unless you get a shot 😂
Fun friendly place! First time here, but I had fun!
The food is great but I every single time I try and order food/try to make a reservation they never answer the phone. Either the hours are wrong or the service is terrible.
Fun great place
Bottle girls will pour out your drinks when your not watching to make you spend more money......DO NOT GO
Horrible experience. After waiting an hour to get in, the place was so packed it was borderline dangerous. Bartenders were very rude as well as the people. I wont ever go back.
Wow!!! I heard these guys have won some awards for their Burger and Tacos but I was completely blown away how good the food was. The Burger was unreal and the tacos lived up to their Super Macho tagline.
