Found a gem while on vacation. The food was the bomb!!! Ordered some of everything to taste and was not disappointed. The owner was very cool and personable. The service was great, and the live music was an added bonus to our spontaneous visit. Well definitely recommend and be back.

I LOVE IT HERE!!!! MY MOM BROUGHT ME HERE AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME. THE OWNER IS VERY NICE AND DOWN TO EARTH. THE WAITERS ARE GREAT. $20 FOR RIBS AND FRIES WAS DEFINITELY WORTH IT. THE RIBS WAS HUGE AND IT WAS COMING OFF THE BONES THE FRIES WAS HOT AND FRESH. THE FRIED CHICKEN WINGS WITH COLLARD GREENS AND POTATO SALAD WAS AWESOME I DIDN’T EVEN SHARE MY SIDES WITH MY MOM LOL. THE DRINKS WAS GREAT MY FAVORITE WAS THE STRAWBERRY LEMON DROP. IF YOU LIKE SPICY I RECOMMEND GETTING THE JALAPEÑO HUSH PUPPIES. THE LIVE BAND WAS GOOD PLAYED SOME GOOD JAMS. THEY DO HAVE CONCERT HERE AND SALSA NIGHT AS WELL.

I was skeptical..but the food was great! We had the oxtails, meatloaf, green beens, potatoe salad, black eyed peas & red beans. Oxtails were excellent! @Darryl this is from the couple from Georgia. If you are in Seaside or Monterey…it is worth the stop.

Awesome Restaurant and Club!Visiting from Southern California and was pleasantly pleased with our awesome experience here. The food was scrumptiously delicious. The seasoning and freshness were on point.! Southern food bliss.! Yummy!The band was off the chain. I felt like I was a concert! 🎸🎸

Deja Blue is my relaxation spot when Im in seaside. Daryl and his staff has one of the most family-oriented jazz spots you can ask for in the area. He knows his music and his staff is respectful and professional. When you go you are invited and you feel at home. You are able to relax, hear some good music, some good fun with some good food, and drinks. Go and enjoy! You can thank me later 😊

This looks to be primarily in nightclub. When I first came in, it was cold enough that I had to go get my sweatshirt. And I gather it’s pretty popular during the evening hours they have barbecue ribs and etc. After reading the reviews, I have to say I was a little disappointed in my breakfast. I was looking forward to the chicken and waffles, but the waitress informed me that they didn’t have that item or the shrimp and waffle.The scrambled eggs had a grill taste and were Slightly overcooked. The grits were OK. Just kind of a small portion. The French toast, they got that right. The server was friendly and she concerned that I was satisfied. This may have just been an off day but I would give it another try.

Food needed more seasoning, particularly the sides. It also didnt help that they were out of both of the sides that I had originally requested and that we couldnt get the shrimp or catfish and grits because it was considered to be a breakfast item.

The owner wasn’t the nicest person upon arrival but ended up being pretty cool after he made our drinks. I ordered Oxtail and rice w/ Mac & cheese and greens to go & it was pretty terrible. I’m a Caribbean girl born & raised in NY and this wasn’t it unfortunately. Maybe they just had a bad day idk. Cool atmosphere though.

Deja Blue was a sweet spot. We were visiting from Albany, NY celebrating our 10 year anniversary. I researched before visiting Monterey. The food was delicious, the service was great and the live music was really nice. Thank you for a really nice experience. We left full and got ourselves two hats.

I originally ordered the oxtail and combo plate, was told the oxtail was sold out. I ordered the pork chops for $26 and the pork chops were like baby size. Food was okay. I don’t recommend the pork chops, not for the price.

It was my first visit there. We ordered takeout dinners: grilled Tilapia with black-eyed peas & collard greens and Catfish dinner with collards and potato salad. The food was excellent! Well-seasoned; not full of sodium nor greasy. We will definitely be returning.

When we came in it was a little quiet, but the company already here cheered us in and welcomed us. We’re celebrating a marriage, and this place was definitely the place to do it. The bartenders, DJ, and who I could assume are regulars were all super badass and kept the amazing vibe going. We will definitely come back 😌♥️

I was there for a private party, the Owner Gerald (or Manager) was very rude. He gave me bad attitude every time I asked him for a drink even though the wine was already paid for. He was not welcoming and pretty much started cleaning around and throwing things around two hours prior the events ending time. So everyone felt like they had to leave. I will not recommend this place for an event. His bad attitude made me and my family members feel uncomfortable.

We had a blast at the New Years Eve show!! Cant really rate the food as we didnt go for dinner but, great atmosphere and the owner and staff were exceptionally nice. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are in the Monterey area.

I love going to Deja Blue Soul Food Restaurant! The food is authentic and consistently delicious. We eat here every time I come to town. My cousin, who has lived in Seaside for over 50 years, has known the proprietor, former Seaside Councilman, Darryl Choates, from back when Darryl was a school-aged boy. Darryl is a hands-on restaurateur and is always welcoming, friendly, and hospitable. He even sits down with us to discuss the future of Seaside, as he sees it. He makes us feel like family.

My daughter and I ended up here and it was our first time! The food was homemade and it was wonderful! It brought back wonderful memories of how my mother-in-law used to cook. The barbecue sauce was amazing and so were the yams. The catfish was fresh and fried just right! Will definitely be coming back!

I go to this place to support live music 🎶 & my friend Kaye Bohler & her band once a month (first Saturday of every month). I just wish the place itself would advertise HER more bcuz shes an amazing 👏 blues singer.

Came back home for the weekend. Thought I would try to support one of the local restaurants.The owner is very rude. I ordered ribs, collared greens, and beans and rice. The ribs were horrible overcooked.I was unable to even bite a section of the ribs because they were so hard. The greens were good but cold the beans lacked flavor and were cold.My girlfriend had fried chicken, yams and mac and cheese. All of her food was cold. The chicken wasnt even golden brown. The very nice waitress sent the owner over to our table,So that he could examine our meal. I told him what was wrong with with the food. And he simply dropped a napkin in my plate and took the food away. No, Im sorry, how can I make this right, nothing. Totally unprofessional and disrespectful. Happy to say I will never attempt to eat here again.Try to support a local business and this is the thanks I get..

If you want to have a really good time in a relaxing environment, with fresh home cooking, a refreshing cocktail, and some great entertainment, this is the place to be.

I can’t begin to describe how delicious the food is. I preferred food to go since I’m traveling.

This was an awesome place for a good night out. The cocktails were delicious, the food was good, the service was great and the live music was awesome. The singer was hitting all the notes just perfectly. The pianist was making the notes sound magical and so were the drums and the base. Great music all around...I had the catfish with a few sides. I really wanted to try the jambalaya but they were not serving it that day. The catfish was good but Im looking forward to going back for the jambalaya so will need to call in advance to make sure they are serving it that day. For sides we had collard greens, fried okra, black eye peas and the Mac N cheese.Overall the food was good.The staff was nice and the service was fast.If you are looking for a good time for food, drinks, and live music, this is the place for you. Will definitely come back.

Love the venue love the people really enjoyed myself! Hospitality was incredible and the music amazing. Am planning to have my CD release party here. Darryl and Leon made me feel right at home. Joint Chiefs Band were excellent. I was so happy that the club has such superior acts. The food is also fantastic. We enjoyed the ribs, catfish, cornbread and greens. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu!

This place is the bomb! Ended up too early in Friday and too late on Sunday 😥 but I have been there before; the food is 1st rate and if you can get in when a great band is plying you definitely wont be disappointed!

My very 1st time hereI was absolutely impressed with the performances, the comedians kept you laughing, the ladies tried they best to provide excellent food and beverage service to the sold out crowd.Ps: parking maybe an issueI didnt rate the food because I didnt order any food, my drink, I couldnt tell it was Cranberry juice and malibu coconut rum! Not a slight taste of rum. However, I got home safe without incident.

Took my family.. kids loved the burgers and fries... I had the ribs greens n beans an rice.. real home cooking. Loved it!

I hadnt been out in a while so a friend suggested I go here with him. The place is really nice and clean and the jazz performances was awesome. Great food choices. I ordered the oxtails over rice and had the yams and mac and cheese. For dessert I had the peach cobbler it just came out the oven nice and hot. Love how the owner came over and asked if everything was ok. Servers were also great. I will definitely be back for more.

Thursday night karaoke was great. The DJ had an impressive database and he had a pretty impressive voice. Please dont make the mistake that I did and drop the mic after your performance.

We went for the dance lessons on Saturday night. the instructions were totally free and it was really fun! the bar was a little slow considering the amount of people there but the drinks were good. we came at a time when the kitchen was closed but the menu at least looked tasty with quite a bit of variety

Restaurant by day, club by night. This exudes everything youd expect from a soul Food restaurant towing the line. There was no live music that night but there was karaoke and plenty of locals. I got the catfish dinner. It was well seasoned not overly salty like most battered in cornmeal tend to be. Greens were pork free but could have been hotter when they came out. Crab hush puppies were crispy on the outside, soft and chewy (but not undercooked) inside. The only complaint is concerning their lack of dipping sauces; ketchup, tartar, and hot sauce is all they had. I needed BBQ and cocktail sauce. They serve BBQ chicken and shrimp so I didnt understand how they didnt have a supply of these sauces or any sauces for their many different types of hush puppies.

Deja Blue is our go-to spot for ribs and for live blues music. Darryl, the owner and bartender, is there to make this place absolutely marvelous. We spend Sunday afternoons there often. Dont miss this special place.

Always Great to come back home to Seaside. It’s being made even better by having a Quality Live Performance Event hub in town. Deja Vu Nite Club presents elegant live, fun, energy with a welcoming Bay Area Jazz Soul Salsa Artist and DJ’s appeal. That might be laying it on a little thick… but… the place is “LIVE”. Go check it out.

I drove from SF to visit this place with my mother and the bartender whom is the owner was rude and customers stated that this is typical unsatisfactory customer service practices at this place . We waited over an hour to place an order for food. This is an African American owned business for which I strongly support but this was not a good first impression to experience. However, the jazz music was fantastic!! I am so sorry the owner felt the statements were so false when you admitted you plan to do better. I hope no one else will ever have to experience what I went through again!

What a lovely addition to downtown Broadway. I enjoy the live jazz on Saturdays and Reggae on Sundays! The owner Darrell Choates, is so friendly and cares about customer service. He wants to make sure that you do come back. And if you to havent had the fried catfish or ribs oh, you need to.

I was less than pleased with the ribs they tasted as if though they were re-warmed from the day before! They were tough and more bone than meat. I was expecting better quality and I was unhappy with my $13.00 meal.

Great drinks and hospitality along with wholesome fresh comfort foods like Tilapia, gumbo, ox tails, collards ,fine restaurant style cut steaks and chops. Outside patio dining as well as take-out. Cant wait for pandemic to subside so that we might enjoy the return of comedy shows 😄 and true socializing with friends 😄 😀

Deja Blue is a very nice Venue. I met the Owner Darryl and his Family and Staff all were very Nice Personable and very Professional. July 10/2021 I Had a Special Dinner Voucher for a donation gift From My favorite DJ Afrikahn Jamal at my favorite Radio Station KKUP in San Jose.Prime Rib Steak was the specialty of the night . Omg Omg The best tasting and tender Steak i ever had cooked to perfection. Side dishes were green beans, baked potatoes yummy potatoe with Shrimp scampi Plus it waz seasoned just right juicy but not too spicy .Tosted green salad. Nice portion sizes. I have a no dairy diet and they were very accommodating.After dinner there was a Record Release party for A 831 local Artist He was Really great sounding. Great Dj He was dope on point i was dancing hard all night yea . Nice friendly Crowd. Large Dance floor nice Seating in both Areas.FIVE STAR PLUS RATING ✌✌✌✌✌Thanks Deja blue for a Beautiful Fantastic evening a day later i am still Smiling. Grub the moment I got in this place I felt really welcomed! Amazing staff, environment and soul food. They have specific days for karaoke, dancing salsa and play jazz. Isnt it amazing? 😍

An all white party where some people werent dressed in white and still allowed to attend. We were dressed partially in white and were not allowed to attend. The drinks are expensive and very weak and the waiting service isnt the greatest. The band playing was amazing thats about it. Wont be coming back here ever again.

There’s no advertising that they don’t serve breakfast all day. I went for chicken and waffles and they didn’t serve breakfast. Service was good but I just wouldn’t want any family to make the same mistake.

Sadly I’m from Texas and this is not how you make grits. No booze in my drinks 🥲 nope expensive and poor quality. Staff was nice but not worth it.

Love this new place and will try again on a different night. My beer was $9 which surprised me, but I hope it catches on and survives its really cool.

This place is premiere for the entire area I had their ribs and tri-tip they have an excellent music program as well as ambience it is open as a cocktail lounge in the afternoon and nighttime as well

This was the best lunch decision ever. We showed up to see the Al James Band , and apparently crashed a local school reunion. The sound system was amazing and although the place was packed with a lot of people that all knew each other and the owner,, and we were definitely not part of that class, everyone was so nice and awesome. The MUSIC, food and drinks are amazing!! Thx so much for a wonderful experience.
