Looove this place as part of my queer routine! cute queer friendly place BUT they never have extra ones for the queens who perform. if a business nearby is open, i have better luck getting ones from them. if you want your performers to be tipped, please keep more ones on hand!!! otherwise no notes 🤗
Last weekend when visiting town I was overcharged for a drink, then got the boot for bringing it up.I asked Edgardo (per receipt) or Michael (as someone called him) the price of a certain vodka mix; he said $9. I ordered, paid with my card, and saw $10 on the receipt. I asked about the difference; he growled that he said $10, insisted that he told me twice, and said you have a receipt. I then heard him say $9 plus... (unintelligible; the bar was loud since a RuPaul contestant was there). I asked if it was $9 for the vodka plus $1 for the added juice (not the case for an earlier drink) to clarify what he said; he repeated the told-me-twice statement, said I shouldnt be asking about prices if... (again, unintelligible), and demanded that I get out of [his] sight. He then proceeded to summon the security guard to expel me from the bar, during which, I said I did nothing to him. Mind you, I was calm during this whole encounter. The guard cordially escorted me outside (where we could hear each other); then I explained to him what happened and that I did nothing to this bartender. The guard agreed that what happened was not my fault, and said the prior two weeks had been rough; but he told me he had to obey the bar, and added I was welcome any other time. I asked the guard if he could talk to the bartender since it was not fair to me to be blown up at for nothing I did wrong and get punished for it.Later that night, a straight ally told me he was once booted from here too, for politely declining a dance with a gay man who then complained to security about it. The ally recommended a different place, where I had no problems at all the next day.The guard did hope my encounter did not affect my view of this bar. Much of my time here was fine (no issue with two guards, the cover collector, or an earlier bartender, plus at least the drinks I had were good); but if someone can seemingly get plucked from the bar just for being disliked, whatever that may look like -- plus, based on other negative stories (side note: Edgardo/Michael is the short bartender guy described on Yelp) -- I have my doubts.Hopefully Ill update this review with some better info if I ever try this place again.[I know this was a long one, and this wasnt everything -- so thanks for your patience if you read to the end!]
One of my favorite bars in Cap Hill, Queer bar is a lot of fun. The drinks are STRONG, but the line is usually super long on Fridays and Saturdays (to be expected). The dance floor is decent sized and in a cool spot with a wall full or mirrors. Theres a lot more seating available than is ever used at night. The DJ is a little disappointing though, its really hit or miss. They play then entire songs, theres not really a cross over or blend. Its like youre listening to your Spotify playlist basically. They play a lot of pop music, which isnt really isnt my thing.Overall its a fun nightclub with cool and safe vibes.
We were late on Saturday night and didn’t want to wait in line. So we were back for cold beers Tuesday evening, good selection of cocktails & eats on the menu.Clean, well-kept, fresh decore, comfy environment with a variety of seating areas: booths, small tables & chairs, bench seating, and the bar. Great ambient music.Small well-lit dance floor and if the dance music is as good as the background sounds, this will be a great place to dance on the weekend
Hands down a must stop! First night in the city and they did NOT disappoint. Drinks were mids but did the job. The show was amazing and the dance floor was packed.
Eamon.....hope I spelled it right...is a fantastic bartender. Such an asset. Id go back simply because hes the bomb. What a fun time. Great drag shows. Amazing energy and just a fantastic time.
Maybe I just went on an off night, but for a place called “queer” bar, it sure felt like they did all they could to make it feel like a gay man only space. I didn’t go during a drag show, so hopefully maybe it’s better then. Otherwise, as a queer woman, I’d unfortunately give this place a pass.
Went to Queer/Bar for a drag show last night! Had a great time with my husband. It’s very rare to go out nowadays because me and him have different work schedules and yesterday was the day where we can actually enjoy some time together. Also, we like live pretty far from there: Issaquah, WA. Otherwise, had an amazing night. Saw some cool performances, very nice bartenders, and saw some of my old acquaintances 🥰. If you want to see some good drag, I highly recommend coming here and support local queens. Last night’s main event was Delta Works comedy show and I laughed so hard!!! Love love love it 😍! Lastly, I want to say my thanks to Jesse the bar supervisor for the free drink I had last night. You’re an amazing individual and I hope good things will come to you. 😘
Went bar hopping on a Saturday night for my friends 21st and came here for an epic time! This place is lit! This is where the partys at, everyone is living their best life and it was so much fun! We were a gender diverse group but didnt experience any rudeness from bartenders, security, or patrons as others mentioned. The drinks were good and fairly priced, but best of all everyone was so friendly and fun! I didnt see the bathrooms so cant speak on that, everywhere else seemed adequately maintained. The dance floor is relatively small and generally crowded but thats a sign of how poppin it was! Hope its this much fun next time we come back
The security there doesn’t care what country you’re from and expect you to know the rules of American culture of tipping. I got thrown out like N old rag by their white dominated employees and was downgraded for being who I am.
We went for the s*** talk with Delta, it was fun. One of the best drag shows weve seen. We were going to stay and dance after but man they play the music so so loud. We must be getting old or something... 5 stars because the drag show was fun and the atmosphere is great. Please know the music does not need to be obnoxiously laud to have fun.
First time here and had a wonderful time! Staff and performers were great!
Best dance party Ive been to in a hot minute ✨
Appreciated the security checks at the front, bartenders try to service quickly, staff takes empty drinks quickly for patrons safety. If you do not reserve a table, you cannot get the shareable drinks.
Loved coming here for a show. A booth is only $50 (for up to 5 people) during the week. We were able to squeeze in a 6th friend who just payed cover at the door. It was perfect. Beverages were fantastic- the female christ was a favorite. There was also a slew of non-alcoholic beverage options and food. Love dancing here and the staff are so fantastic*definitely loud, bring ear protection if youre sensitive *
Literally so rude. As I gay man I’ve never felt more uncomfortable by the staff. The bartender was so rude when serving us and then proceeded to tell all the staff that my group looked young and approached us to double check our ID’s because they thought we snuck in just to realize we were all of legal age. What’s the point of having an outside bouncer if you’re just going to second guess his ability of doing his job.
My friend and I were drugged by the bartender and convinced to finish our drinks then after we left once we felt something was wrong they pushed my friend into a car/Uber and once her boyfriend said he was going to come get her and had her location they yelled at her to get out and charged her over 70 dollars. Stay away from here if you’re a woman or anyone really. This place is the worst.
Went out late on a Friday night, queer bar was poppin! The energy was so fun, everyone was dancing and the DJ was playing good music. Our bartender Austin took the best care of us and made us amazing drinks. I asked for a surprise drink and was not disappointed, queer bar is the best! And I felt super safe while there:)
An iconic place. Queer bar puts on the best shows, and they put a lot of work into making sure that their guests are taken care of. The bar tenders are great, and the security team is amazing! Love love love this place! 💕
Energy is amazing however… we paidFor a VIP table for two of us and had 3 different groups of people keep trying to take our table when we went outside even though it said reserved during the whole show…. Very little BIPOC queer people so keep that in mind, definitely more of a white space. Loved the performances
They need a quiet corner where I can do my independent reading time
Great bar for a drag show! They have fantastic shows and the place gets pretty busy and crowded with people dancing afterwards. It’s a nice venue and the staff was friendly. Would definitely go back again.
Extremely unfriendly staff, performers, and PLEASE stay away from the bathrooms if you have substance abuse issues for your own safety… everyone is abusing substances in the bathrooms every single time I’ve been, more extreme than any bar I’ve ever been to. Along with vomit everywhere, on top of bathrooms not being stocked at all even on slow nights. You are better off going to any other amazing queer bars like Pony or WILDROSE where staff is welcoming and facilities are clean :)
I have never had a problem with queer bar. On Saturday At the door I was with my friend and a really rude security guard accused me of having a fake military ID. I chose to walk away since arguing with him wouldve been pointless. I enjoyed my night later at some of the other bars. I went to 5 different bars and no one had a problem with my military ID. If your a soldier just bring your drivers license as well. Queer bar is great when youre in and the atmosphere is amazing and most of the security at most of the bars are ex vets. You may run into the occasional random, but unlikely since Ive been here for about 5 years now and thats the first time ever. Good luck and enjoy yourselves.
This place is amazing! I love the atmosphere and the vibe that is created. It is a nice modern twist on your typical bar setting. I feel very high class coming here as everything is clean and nicely decorated. I typically order bar food and regret it because its just average or mediocre, however that is not the case here. I got the chicken wings and DANG that was bussin. I also appreciate how friendly the staff was!
EXTREMELY unfriendly staff. Not a safe space for people in the gay/queer community. Spend your money elsewhere and find a more welcoming environment. So disappointed that a queer space could make you feel so unwelcome that you need to leave.
I went with my boyfriend on a Friday night and it was dominated by straights, with parties of them reserving half of the seating. It felt more like a gay themed bar than a gay bar. Three stars for great food and service, but it’s not what I was expecting from a gay bar.
I booked reservations at this venue for my sisters 50th birthday party. My party was not disappointed! The show was awesome ! Even though the menu was simple, the food was delicious. The event coordinator was very passionate about making the night perfect and the staff did not disappoint. I will definitely come back!
If you are not what staff decides as “queer passing”- be prepared to be treated with the utmost disrespect in the most unwelcoming environment. I am a queer woman who moved to Seattle for the queer community and have loved every experience I’ve had… until now. Staff plays an EXTREME “gatekeeper” role no matter how friendly and respectful you are. Unless you have a handful of cash, of course. This venue has made me lose so much of my sense of queer community, and I grieve this loss. I will NEVER come back and will encourage others to do the same. Queer/Bar, be better… please.
Queer/Bar is an extraordinary LGBTQ+ haven that embraces diversity, inclusion, and unapologetic self-expression. The vibrant atmosphere, pulsating music, and dazzling performances create an electric ambiance that leaves you mesmerized. The friendly staff ensures a safe and welcoming space for all, fostering a sense of community and celebration. The innovative cocktails and flavorful bites add to the overall experience. Whether youre dancing, enjoying drag shows, or simply socializing, Queer/Bar is an essential destination for anyone seeking an unforgettable night of LGBTQ+ empowerment and pure joy.
The security wouldn’t let my cousin back in because they said he didn’t pay. I asked if they had the ability to check the cameras to confirm he paid or can I speak with the manager to confirm. They brought out the security manager supposedly who told me no they could not check cameras and then that he had to cut my wrist band because I was being aggressive. I showed no sign of aggression so it had to be something else. I won’t express the conclusion I came to but take your money somewhere else, this place is lame.
Amazing experience. Very sweet staff and great performers!! Felt so welcome and comfortable, drinks are wonderful. Cant wait to go back !
We went there on 7/21/22 for the first time and when we walked inside we were shocked by the LOUD sound. I’ve been to so many music festivals and clubs and nothing compares to how loud this place was. It was so uncountable that we left in less than 3 minutes. In fact, one of my ears is hurting right now. Not sure if the DJ was deaf, or the place was trying to intentionally blast everyone’s eardrums. My first experience left such a bad impression.
Honestly I didnt know how to feel about this bar when it first opened because it replaced my favorite gay bar but its seriously grown on me and become one of my favorite LGBTQ bars. Its a very mixed crowd with patrons from all across the LGBTQ spectrum. Great drag shows on the weekend and the best part is there is almost like a speakeasy upstairs. Just walk down the hallway like you are going to the bathroom and youll find stairs to their super cool speakeasy lounge. Upstairs lounge is only open on the weekend.
Queer/Bar has become my go to place for going out with my friends. I mostly go on Tuesdays for their excellent trivial with Chris and Colin, but cannot complain one bit about my time there in terms of the bar.The staff is fast and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. In hopes of exploring the fullness of queer identity, Queer/Bar uses its space for rotating art exhibit space — and doesnt mind engaging kink culture with it. The food menu is vegetarian, which may be a turn off to some people, but its pretty good vegetarian food. The seating options at Queer/Bar invite a variety of gatherings, from an after-work cocktail with friends to sitting and having a meal. The weekly shows are very fun, and they have spectacular graphic design. Give Queer/Bar and chance or three, and you wont be disappointed.
$25 cover charge for a drag show thats starts over an hour late? Never again....
Last night seeing bosco was amazing but we paid for a table where the website said “table service “ we did not get table service and we’re told it was because of omicron. Please change your website if we are still using covid as an excuse when the bar was jam packed with people. If you can deliver food and pick up glasses your servers can definitely take orders.
Hannah my bartender was so sweet! She took care of me and my friends and made us feel welcome. I asked for a old fashioned (not exactly a club drink right?) and she made it happen even though they were low on the supplies. Thank you queerbar and Hannah!
Great bar to have a fun and interactive night! Great shows regularly, friendly staff, and great game/trivia nights. Also has some great food if you start your night early..you have to try the jalapeño corn fritters. And don’t forget the tiny bar upstairs.
Truly home away from home. Queer/bar really sets the standards for all queer spaces. Shoutout to all of the staff and everyone who makes the vibes here fun/safe/hot/etc.🖤🖤
A must place to visit for gay folks visiting the Seattle area. Beautiful atmosphere with a dancefloor/stage, and large proyectors perfect for show premieres and events. Even the outside bar name is perfect for a photo op. Perfect for a night out with friends.
INCREDIBLE time! Great drinks, great experience! Booked a high top table and had a great view!
Queer/Bar is changing the scene of Capitol Hill LGBTQ+ nightlife! When Purr relocated I just knew another bar that didn’t cater to the community of Capitol Hill was destined to replace it as it had a prime location. Luckily Joey brought Queer/Bar to the Pike/Pine corridor and has stepped up the game for all other bars located on the Hill. The drag show MX is beyond amazing and they even had a drag king by the name of Sean Nyte perform a few weeks ago. I’ve lived in Seattle for 5 years and have never once seen a drag king brought into an established drag show. The bar staff is kind and the cocktails are strong. Keep up the amazing work Queer/Bar staff!
Walked in, looked around….and walked right back out. Nope. Not only is the worst “gay/queer” bar in Seattle…..it may very well be the worst bar in Seattle period. Awful.
Desperate for money? Poor little bar! Bar is empty. No wonder why? The doorman just asked tried to get a $10 cover at 1:40 am and they close at 2am. I wont be back. Go to Union Bar. No cover at 1 am.
Literally threatened physical violence against queer people.
Queer by name NOT queer by nature. If you’re gay this not a venue for you. We were drawn in by the name but a BIG mistake- I could recount how bad it was it would take too long. In short AVOID
Bouncer wouldnt let me in because he felt my Texas drivers license was in his words off. A bar shouldnt hire bounciers who cant tell the difference between valid and fake Ids.
Place is great but there’s no ambiance; the lights are way too bright... they should bring a piano player, make it more like a lounge feeling
$5 cover and the only vodka they have is Absolut. Basic Top 40 music. Nothing special.
Very friendly, and got to see Stacy starstruck! As well as the other wonderful ladies!
Literally threatened violence against queer people
Lovely people, good service, great beer, fun vibes. If only I could have gotten over my social anxiety and talked to some people.
Pretty venue but not extremely exciting if I’m being honest. Used to be great a few years ago!
Good vibes and definitely go see the MX show every Friday and Saturday night!
Nice bar, paying cover and getting my drinks taken before I finish then is kind of annoying. Probably aa better for people from out of town.
First time here and I love it allllllll. The mini bar up stairs is my fav.
Fun spot to go for events: Burleskaraoke or drag burlesque! Good vibe.
Worst place ever. Guy said that I was too drunk when I didn’t even drinking so I couldn’t get in
Great staff, delicious food, strong drinks, lots of Fun!
Such a great fun positive environment with some fabulous drag queens
Enjoyed brunch drag. Was too loud for my taste
Love coming here! I’m glad that you guys finally reopened!
Fun, inviting, fantastic menu and all around great environment to be around.
The bartender was super nice and it was a great vibe!
Very nice place, very friendly stuff
Fantastic performances and fast, friendly bar service
Nice people, awesome atmosphere and an overall great time.
Where the straights go to see drag queens. Masc energy
So fun
Best shows ever
Amazing Place. GREAAAT PPL!
Id like to go
This place rules.
Great place!
Terrible place
The cocktails are highly alcoholic. The room has potential for a dance evening, Im curious to go back on a Saturday evening.
