I came from Utah to visit my sister in the Seattle area and we wanted to try a new club. Someone she knew recommended R place so we thought we would give it a try. I LOVE dancing and have been to many different clubs. This was by far my all time favorite dance club! It started with the most entertaining drag show on Saturday night for about an hour and then they moved the tables and chairs and we danced the night away. The music was amazing and so much fun! Seriously best DJ ever playing popular music that we know and love. The people there were awesome and the bouncers were friendly. Will definitely be going back to R place next time I visit😀
This is one of the best dance clubs in Seattle. It is not fancy, but the staff is nice if youre nice to them. Its a gay bar so dont come here if that will offend you. They have 3 levels. The lower two are for drinking and hanging out. They even have a few couches on the second floor. The top floor is for dancing and drag shows. It gets quite crowded up there, but I almost always have a good time.
One of the best dancing experiences I’ve ever had! Everybody was friendly and having a good time. The drag show started us off right. The DJ played amazing hits everyone could dance to and even sing along with! The security was friendly even though they had to get loud to get us out at closing time. We couldn’t help it, nobody wanted to leave.I will most definitely be back again and again!
Once I moved to Seattle, WA this was the first gay bar I was taken to and was so grateful for that. Other than it being 3 stories of interesting it was also the home of a Saturday night drag show. Drinks are priced normally and it’s a pretty clean place with some aspects of a dive bar (which is a good thing). Def give it a try on a Saturday night and enjoy the show!
Went to a drag show and it was really great. The bartenders were friendly enough, however the bouncers and security guards are really unreasonable. Two Things:1) I was waiting for my friend at the bar to head outside, she passed me without noticing and I was trying to get her attention as she walked out the door. I guess I got too close to the door and one of the security guards SNATCHED my drink right out of my hand and said mockingly Nice try, little girl. I rolled my eyes at him and finished my drink. (Secretly wondering if this is why I wasnt allowed back in--see next item)2) I went outside with a friend for a cigarette and she got a little sick (all clear liquid, no chunks). They refused to let either one of us in despite us pleading that we needed to close our tabs and get our roommate to go home. The bouncer wouldnt let us get a word in edgewise. Finally, after about 45 mins of us being relentless, I was allowed in with an escort to find my roommate and close my tab. Ridiculous.I really enjoyed the show and had a great time until these things happened. Unfortunately, I think it is enough for me to never return and to discourage others from going as well.
ALWAYS a good time when I arrive. Always go see my ONE bartender who knows exactly what I drink and makes it JUST right. The performances are spectacular the drag queens are amazing music can be hit and miss but this is still the place to be on the weekend for sure!!
Rarely worth a cover charge, irritating more often than not, and now they want to create lines within the space (that usually has a line to get in!) because they have no idea how to distribute a crowd with interesting entertainment.Think youre being helpful by wandering between levels for restroom breaks, or to get drinks? Screw you for leaving the busy section! Now you can wait in line to go back to where your friends are!Mediocre at best, a clusterf* most of the time, and generally not worth anyones time or money unless youre completely new to going out and dont know any better. The bartenders and coat check staff are great, the performers are rather hit and miss, and the dancers seem friendly... but the crowd control has been awful for years, regardless of who is doing it. The space just doesnt work if its busy.Bottom line: find other, better places to go.(Oh, and if anyone from the venue is thinking to contact me and thinking to somehow make things better to earn an improved review... Just dont. This has been years in the making, and youre not doing anything about any of the obvious problems, so a patch-work fix-promise or a goodwill offer isnt going to change my mind anymore.)
Lets tell a story about R Place shall we? I agree that knives and things shouldnt probably be allowed in clubs. Its pretty common sense. However, after forfeiting your knife at the door, you should be expected to get it back in a decent amount of time.Bars get busy. Totally understand that too. But after waiting 15 minutes with a minimal line for the security guard (who took my knife to begin with) to have already asked for it is a bit absurd. And when asking how much longer it may be, to have a guard accuse you of having an illegal spring loaded knife (though it wasnt mind you) the story gets more fun.The security guard gets back on his walkie and tells the upstairs to hold on that knife, I have a point to prove. But wait, theres more! They finally come out and tell you they just didnt know if you were going to stab someone or not, because you have a point to prove after asking them to show you how it was an illegal knife in the state of WA (pro tip: it isnt). As a gay man, I carry a (legal) pocket knife on me for general protection. I totally understand a bar not wanting knives allowed inside and will happily turn it over, with the expectation Ill be allowed my property back without question. The power trip of the security guard to accuse me of having a point to prove when he was just being a generally ridiculous human shows me exactly what kind of place R Place wants to be.I dont normally write these kind of things because I think theyre wasted breath, but wow. Also, things R Place does now: takes your picture as you enter and scans your ID. You wanna know an easy way for someone to target a group of (potentially) LGBT people? Target that database. Its insane to me that a place that claims to be a haven for LGBT folk would behave like this.Literally never again.
The bar staff, specifically the hispanic bartender with all the tattoos was the most disrespectful, awful bartender I have ever had. He not only was rude, slamming peoples credit cards on the bar, essentially throwing the drinks drinks at the patrons. He also audibly in front of customers was making remarks about the manner in which patrons were dressed and ordered drinks. This was supposed to be a welcoming place but instead it was a horrendous experience. Will not reccomend.
Worst bar in Seattle hands down! First bar where I had a staff member intentionally rough me up just because he felt entitled to. I want to think he targeted me because he’s a douche and not racist, but I feel it may have been the latter. To keep it short and sweet: music suck, drinks suck, bartenders and security personnel are super unprofessional and aggressive when you confront them. Just avoid a headache and go to any other bar than this soulless establishment. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Im not even gay and I love this place. My friend lives nearby and we go in there all the time. The drinks have fair prices. The environment is diverse and fun. Most notable is on Wednesdays they watch cable TV shows, almost like a family, and at commercial breaks they have a drag queen sometimes give you the run down of whats going on, via microphone. Its very funny. Its an iconic bar in the capitol hill neighborhood.
SUPER DUPER FUN!Loud, friendly crowd, awesome music, tons of space. This bar has something for everyone-- pool tables, room to talk (read, quieter) lower level, and mad dancing and shows on the top floor.Staff seems prompt and friendly, there are lots of bouncers to protect the innocent, and overall great vibe. I always meet new friends when I come here! Make sure you check out the amateur (stripping? dancing?) competition.
R place seems really the gay bar to go to in Seattle, if you want a lot of nice gays (and some straight folks too) around you. People were friendly. Good drinks, and great drag headliners. We went twice. Once for the screening of RuPauls Drag Race because Robbie Turner hosted it. Sadly, she was super late and the lights werent working for the whole show.. so we saw another drag queen - and barely even that, because of the lights.
I saw a drag show here and it was super entertaining. It was definitely the best drag show Ive seen. The bartender I got drinks from was very nice. There ATMs there, which are convenient if you want cash to leave tips for the bartender or drag queens.
Was offered cocaine multiple times in one night. Dint get me wrong was it a good place Meh. It was decent The bartender on the 3rd floor did not know how to pour a drink. The guys on the 1st floor definitely did. The gogo dancers were definitely a plus to this place and the bartender on the first floor on a Friday night. Also we are from out of state. Minus the drugs a pretty decent place. My recommendation they should conduct pat downs. That way they can stay open and provide a quality service to the LGBTQ community. 🥜🍑
The bartender was ok looking, but as far as actual tending to the bars customers, he struggled. Of course the parade of vapid, drunken straight girls to and from his well, obviously comfortable in their complete ownership of that station didnt make it any easier for him to cast a glance at other customers waiting for service. They pretty much consumed his attention like a screeching plague of frizzy-haired locusts, intent on devouring all the drinks and any hint of spotlight at any cost, the most depleted of which seems to have been class.
Its a great place to have fun and dance but dont open a tab or get ripped off. I was the designated driver and I was not drunk so I know how much I ordered 5 coronas and one cosmopolitan thats was $91.00. I asked for a itemized recipt I was told that because I dint ask one at the time of closing the tab there was not one. If the R place staff is reading this at least tell me that 91.00 is the cost of five coronas and a cosmopolitan and I will shut up and give a better rating.
Great gay venue for dancing to top 40s and gay anthem! This is the key place I take straight women that want to go to a gay bar. It’s the only gay bar that I feel comfortable bringing women. Oh and be sure to tip your go go boys and girls! They work their butts off!
I went here with a group of friends. One of them was very pregnant but was just trying to spend time with us. The bouncer in the photo I posted pushed her on the stairwell in order to make room for someone else to pass, a model of some kind, even though they could have just been patient and let her finish walking. There was no call for such physical abuse against a pregnant woman. My friend and I talked to the head of security and they scoffed at us. Never again will I go here and I hope no one else ever will either after this experience. Also, their music selection sucks, FYI.
Yeah, cause I love having someone stop me to make fun of my dancing.Sometimes the drag shows go til 12 and you cant dance before then. You pay cover and then wait in line to go upstairs to the dance floor.
Skip this place. Very lackluster, not friendly. It’s dirty and poorly maintained. I observed how they barely clean the drinking glasses. Seattle has a lot of great places to visit, don’t let this one ruin an evening. The lady running the door was our first clue we picked a bad place to visit. She was unequivocally rude to a couple in front of us.
We had my best friends bachelorette party here last night. It was a blast all the girls were awesome, they made sure my bestie had a great time. The bar tenders, security and doorman were all friendly and fun. Definitely a great place!
R Place is Seattle LGBTQ Hip Hop bar. The bar is known for its iconic drag shows on the weekends, and awesome dance floor. Its 3 levels, drinks and some seating on the first floor, seating and 2nd bar on the 2nd floor and the third floor has a bar, gogo dancers, stage and huge dance floor. It can easily be your one stop bar on a Friday or Saturday night
I dont get the appeal. Seattle gay bars/clubs are just generally poorer in quality and execution than I wouldve expected of such an educated city. Gogo boys? Really? $8 cover for remixed versions of 2003 songs? I think Im either a total grouch or everyone else is too drunk to notice how bad it is.
I order a white Russian here on Sunday night at 930 they charged me 1450 and the glass wasnt even full. My friend ordered a vocka cran which was top self velvetter and was charged 1650 for a total of 2750 Never been charged that in my lifetime for two drinks. The bartender said that they were doubles. Never been charged double price for a single white Russian. The most I have ever paid was 800. As for the vocka cran which was poured a single shot have never been charged double price. For as Im concerned I think I got ripe off here.
Get a new DJ! Whoever is the DJ at this place needs to make the effort and integrate different songs. Its the SAME mix every time Ive gone there. Its as if they have a playlist of 20 songs on their iPhone and plays just that.
What an amazing environment. My husband and I went to a drag show and it was AMAZING! Everyone is so accepting and there to just have a good time. Great to have been in a place that people are positive and accepting.
Supposed to be a safe place yet my friends and I were harassed before we even got through the door by the security guards friends. Rather than have their friends apologize to us, they told my friends and I that we didnt hear the insults and expletives we heard. Bad vibes all around. Avoid this place.
After living in Atlanta (the heart of the South), Johannesburg (a country that just ended apartheid in the early 1990s), and Washington, DC (a place where politics rule the social scene), I was appalled at how I was treated at R Place. Until 1:30 AM I was enjoying myself, when my friend went to the bar to get a drink, at that time, he was accosted by an individual that was clearly drunk, when my friend tried to calm the situation down, we were immediately surrounded by R place security. Before I knew it, my friend was grabbed by the neck and was escorted out of the bar. In an attempt to find out what was happening, I appraoch security to ask clarifying questions...before I knew it, I was also being escorted out of the club. When Iasked why was my friend and I being escorted out, I was not provided with an answer. My ultimate assumption was that I was being escorted out becuase my friend and I were BLACK. Security never asked what the problem was, if any, they just grabbed my friend by the neck and drug him out of the establishment. When I tried to find out what is wrong, I was not given an answer. When I asked why I was getting dragged out of the club as well, I was told that I was cursing, tearting them aggressively, and being insubordinate. As I type this, just minutes after the event occurred, I promise that I never said one swear, I was never aggressive, and I was only trying to figue out what was going on, if anything. My only assumption, my friend and I were being treated as less than becuase we were BLACK. One security guard said I called him a racist, I guarantee that the word racist never came out my mouth. I do believe that he felt as he if was being racist. My friend and I were not in the worng, we were just trying to find out what was going on. After they escorted us out of the club, they then tried to hol our coats, that we paid to check, making us sign a form to retrieve our things, after we had given them our coat chekc ticket. I have always thought that the state of Washington was a liberal and accepting state. After the esperience I had at R Place, I am not so sure. I wish I could say that my time at R PLace was fun, unfortunately, due to some really simple minded individuals, that was not the case. I charge, anyone who is reading this review, do not patronize R Place with your business, until that remidey the deep seeded prejudice that is present in its current operation. Not only was my friend and I disrepsepcted, the actions taken by security and R Place was completed uncalled for. Please do not give your hard earned money to a place that does not respect individuals. I cannot believe this has happen in a place as accepting and open as Seattle, WA. Shame on you, R Place.
On the rare occasions I like to get my dance on, this is the place. Decent DJs (more top-40 stuff and less of the electronica/house stuff that melts my head) and not too crowded on the weekdays--plus, I dont have to worry nearly as much about getting hit on by skeevy men.
Was not a fun time. So much negativity coming from the security staff made it uncomfortable. I Only had 1 drink and left, probably wont come back. The bar just seems different than I remember. Not good vibes here anymore.
Jesse is a cool bar tender the rest are just OK. Its a fun place. Good music, fun dancing, cool crowd. No frills but really....what did you expect from a divey pub/bar.
This place is concentrating a lot on the consumption of alcohol that is forgetting to be a fun place, always the same shows, and the music is pessimistic. I see a lot of bored people when I go there, and even if it happens time they continue with the same, little by little less people go, before I saw it full, now it is less traveled.
Sadly used to be one of the corner stones of cap hill, that has been totally lost to rude bouncers and staff!I understand hard line approach to dealing with drinking however when Im sober and see my friends treated like crap because the staff can thats not ok!
Meh.... Music sucked on hip hop night. Maybe the DJ could update their music? Nicki Minaj from 10 years ago. Allll night long. Disappointing. We want to hear some bangers! So much music that is out right now that would have everyone turnt! Ijs
I love this place. I visit it regularly and it’s always fun. The music and songs selection on Friday is great. Don’t miss the drag show 😍
It was fun to dance there. The drinks were reasonably priced and the gogo dancers were fun. The music was too mainstream for my tastes though.
Three different floors, with a bar on each one, three different options of music. You cant go wrong with this place. Good drinks but sometimes it gets to crowed.
The bartender on the first floor of the Monday kareoke is absolutely awful in every single way, but if you manage to avoid him then you’ll have an amazing time on the top floor with Justin! :)
The chubby bartender working the bar at the entrance was chatting with his friend for most of the night. When he finally took my order, he gave me the wrong beer. When I asked him to fix it, he said, too bad. Im assuming that he transferred from his old role as customer service at the DMV.
The popular gay club in Seattle. 3 different levels of bars! Dance floor is on the 3rd floor while the 2 other floors are more bar-y.
This place is overrated and a total let down. Been here a million times and had the best time... tonight, not so much. Go anywhere else...please! Also, the tall “dancer” is as a pressed as a panini 🙄
Great local gay bar - the multi level bar offers space for those looking to sit down and enjoy a drink or those looking to get up and dance. Friendly bar tender and cozy atmosphere
Dont let the posted hours fool you.... They basically close at 130am.... Make sure not to buy a drink after 1am.... The rude security begins the cattle drive just after 130am... forget about trying to finish your drink... it isnt going to happen!

Total let down! The tall dancer was so HURT and got off the stage to ask everyone for tips because he wasn’t getting enough according to his expectations! TRAGIC!
Met fun people, felt like the drinks were a lil expensive. But all in all had a good time and tried to dance lots
So much fun on a sat night, gay or straight as long as youre open minded. Booze, dancing, dancers to watch for entertainment etc.
The People in this place including staff are gorgeous and very professional. Some of the Go go boys are alittle bit old for my taste.
Drag show is incredible here, the talent and energy is unbelievable! Loved it
Best club in Seattle. My favorite! And free on most week days with short drag shows!
Staff is overly rude. No manners. Music is ok. Drag shows suck. Place has gone to the pitts! Try someplace else
They say they’re doing karaoke Sunday- weds downstairs but I haven’t seen it.
It’s amazing place and awesome service so friendly staff and guys of the bar so kind and nice people safe place beautiful people there
Good drinks, great spot to watch RuPauls Drag Race
Watch out you dont get ripped off. 2 vodkas $29!
Wasnt there long as it was dead but as other reviewers - staff really unfriendly
The people were wonderful. Security was sweet. I enjoyed the place.
Getting served a SHARD of glass isnt the class, its trash. Never going to this establishment again.
The drag shows on Friday and Saturday are fabulous!
Infiltrated by straight people, the music was basic and not gay-themed whatsoever.
Hadn’t have so much fun like yesterday 🤩 first time here and I definitely come back 💛
Stopped security to ask a question as it was my first time here and he said he would be right back but passed me several times without stopping
Nice place to find friendly people who are LGBTQIA community.
So much fun! My new favorite place!!
The R stands for robbery. Pick pocketing is rife!
Good drinks, good place, good music, and good people!
Didn’t get any service when the place was empty
$10 cover? What a dump! Ugh no.
The best go go dancers in Seattle!
