Second time coming here and still as delicious like I remember last summer. First time I came with my Dad and loved it this time I came with my brother and they also enjoyed it! They are currently knocked out with a food coma haha. Thank you for staying in business and giving Seattle some flavors of the Caribbean! Really need to come here for a fete or soca night haha
I never leave reviews but this place deserves it. the outdoor patio was so cute, our server was so nice n funny and the food was actually top tier. i got the fried chicken and i will dream about it. the batter was perfectly crispy with a lil spice and the chicken was juice and moist. it was genuinely amAZING. i tried my friends dishes and they were also equally as good. he offered me a sauce to go with the chicken but it was just so amazing i didn’t need any, but def would try it with the oxtail next time!
I typically dont write reviews unless I need to warn people about the establishment or praise the quality. As someone from the Caribbean, this place is fantastic. Atmosphere was chill, service was great, and the food was amazing. We had the stewed chicken, curry chicken, and jerk chicken, then devoured the rule cake. This place is a must visit.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I found it to be clean with friendly staff. The chef came out to meet us, and we gave him our feedback on the delicious food received. The food was well prepared and perfectly tasty. Delicious flavors with multiple meal options. If youre looking for somewhere to get more than you paid for in a restaurant, then go visit this location. Taste of the Caribbean is where you need to go.
Absolutely thrilled with the food at Taste of the Caribbean in Seattle, WA! Our group decided to sample the menu extensively and ordered 8 different dishes. The spices were perfectly balanced, the meats tender and juicy, and each bite was a delightful explosion of flavor. Were already looking forward to our next visit to this gem of a restaurant! Highly recommend! 🌴🍲🔥
I may be a bit biased, being from Jamaica also. However, when it to food my eyes and tongue are the decider. I have always view this restaurant as the go to place if youre craving Jamaican food. Ive recommended it to several friends and they all agree with my assessment that Taste Of The Caribbean is on point. Had the chicken patty this afternoon and gave a beef patty to a coworker, he was blown away.
Absolutely amazing food. You KNOW a place is good when 3 people go there, get different meals and all end up arguing that their plate was the best one of the night after sharing.Everything was excellent, from apps to plates and even the different sodas (champagne cola ftw)Staff was super welcoming and in good spirits! Food was so excellent I can’t say enough how you’re missing out if you don’t try this place.
I ordered a few dishes because it was my first time trying Jamaican food outside of Jamaica. I didnt have time to dine in. The server was great! He offered some recommendations when asked and was polite throughout.Oxtail: great flavor but they put way too much gravy in the box (spills arent fun to deal with). Nice tenderness, cooked right.Fried ripe plantain: This was one of the things I was really looking forward to but was disappointed. Slices were too thick so although the outer part was cooked appropriately, it was undercooked on the inside. I could fry them better myself at home. The plantain itself wasnt that sweet but maybe Im expecting too much from imported plantain.Curry goat w/ rice & peas: probably the best dish we ordered. Authentic taste. No complaints, well-made!Festivals: Dont order these. They were way too sweet and tasted almost like donuts.Jerk chicken: Mediocre. There was the missing umph that youd have with jerk chicken from back home. Not an authentic taste, but its still jerk chicken I suppose. Couldnt quite put my finger on what was missing.
Had the oxtail with rice and peas, and a side of plantain. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal, my friend had the escovich fish and that was also awesome. Customer Service was absolutely excellent. Good Jamaican music was playing. Will definitely make this my go to Jamaican spot.
Scan the QR code to look at the menu. We both ordered the oxtail, meat pie, appetizer sampler plate and got the Kingston Pina coladas. That was the best pina colada Ive ever had! The sampler plate had jerk wings, plantains, bread, & dumplings. Everything had great flavors. The service needs improvement. I had to ask about our Pina coladas because it took a long, long, long time and it wasnt even busy.
I ordered the Jerk Shrimp with rice and peas and fried plantain. Everything was seasoned well and very delicious. The portion size was great, I had half for dinner and the rest for lunch. Service was prompt and friendly. I only stayed to get my order but while I was there, the music was nice.
Had the honor of taking one my friends to eat dinner here tonight and the food was so good. She had the oxtails and I had the jerk chicken. The meat was so juicy and tender and literally falling off the bone. Our server was very professional and even made us a special passion fruit juice beverage. I forgot to get his name but I hope he still there the next time I go!
Bottom line first: authentic home style Jamaican cuisine nestled away in a Capitol Hill shack that doubles as a lounge at night. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Havent had much Jamaican cuisine in my life, but this restaurant has met many of my expectations. Stewed meats, spices, salt cod, and fried treats were all had and enjoyed. We started with the appetizer sampler. The jerk wings were seasoned perfectly and falling off the bone. The salt cod fritters were delicious and filled with a variety of well paired spices. The the festival were an unusual piece of sweet fried dough I had yet to have experienced, but better suited for a dessert. The plantains were very traditional. For entrees we had both the curry chicken and oxtails. The curry chicken was slow braised in a wonderful blend of curried spices and falling off the bone. The oxtails were just what I had desired of Jamaican island cuisine. Fatty stewed meat in a delectable brown sauce served with rice and red peas - all of which worked very well together for a comfortable home style meal.
The restaurant is beautiful. The food is really really delicious and the space is great. I wish they had a little bit more Jamaican accessories, and pastries. That would be lovely to kinda of spark the environment.
A mini vacation after some terrible news. Friendly service, delicious food, and much needed smiles. We did brown sauce chicken stew, curry chicken, curry goat, and a mixed appetizer, with jerk chick, fried ball, salad, plantains and festival. All were delicious with some being far beyond delicious. My faves? Brown sauce chicken stew. Yum,! The fried curry ball, plantains, goat, and festival. And the rum punch. What is a festival? Think beneigh. All in all a treat. Thank you!
Great food and drinks (both alcoholic and N/A options). We had appetizers - Codfish Fritters and Jamaican Patty, and for entrees my partner had Jerk Chicken and I had Jerk Pork. All food was outstanding and huge portions—no room for rum cake so we got a slice of that to go. Service was fantastic. Bartender/server went above and beyond—I left my purse hanging off my chair and she actually ran out to where we were parked on the street—she was my guardian angel! We will definitely be back.
Ordered the curry chicken and oxtail plate. So much food it could last for 2 meals. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The oxtail fell off the bone and was meaty. Well worth the $18 and $19. Service was easy to order and brought out quickly.
For the price, they give you a lot of food like REAL CARIBBEANS DO! This is the chicken curry. It is spicy so if you don’t like spicy, i wouldn’t order. I ordered it through Uber Eats. I must say the flavor was on point very authentic curry taste. The meat you can tell was marinating in the curry sauce and slowed cooked for flavor! 🍗🍗I love rice and peas with the curry gravy. This is the best Caribbean food I’ve had in Seattle… the other Caribbean restaurants need to take notes!! 🇹🇹🇯🇲🇯🇲
Ever since I went to New York City and didn’t get a Jamaican patty I’ve been kicking myself. I did some research and heard that Taste of the Caribbean had tasty, affordable Jamaican patties. I finally ventured over on a Saturday sometime after 2pm. The place was somewhat dark inside, but comfortable. It’s a large space with a bar and some bar seating and then a bunch of tables. The décor was nice, I especially liked the flags hung up all around because it was fun trying to figure out which ones were hung up. There was only one woman waiting tables and bartending so the service was a little slower, but I don’t hold that against her at all. To run the front of the house by herself was admirable. It didn’t hurt that she was hospitable and had an affable personality. Unfortunately they didn’t have curry goat or ackee, so I shared a curry chicken and one beef and one chicken patty. The curry chicken was delicious and had a good amount of spicy heat. I particularly enjoyed the rice and peas (beans) on the side. As for the patties, I thought they were great. I personally favored the beef patty but the chicken patty was good too. Both fillings were flavorful and meaty. The patties were affordable at $3.50 apiece as well. I hope to have more patties in the future, but all the ones I have from now on will be compared to these ones. I hope to be back soon.
Wont be going back again. It wasnt even busy and it took a half hour to bring water. After we finally got our food it took a good 5 min for them to bring us silverware.
The second time I ordered from this place via Uber Eats. This time I ordered the Jerk chicken entree - it complimented with rice & beans with a small side salad for a slight upcharge. It’s flavorful without being too spicy. I also ordered the beef Patty - Yummy! I wished I discovered this place sooner before COVID-19. It makes me miss the Jamaican food back in Miami, FL.
Loved their jerk chicken and fried plantains. The salad complemented the plate well. I wasnt as high on the rice & peas though. Price seems okay, it is still around Capitol Hill. The place looks interesting. The servers were attentive and friendly enough. Id come back to try the other dishes they have though. Definitely recommend their jerk chicken.
Great food but service was terrible from the moment we got here. Ordering is also a bit confusing for newcomers, however, the vibes are immaculate .
If you are in the mood for some great authentic Caribbean/Jamaican dishes, this is your spot. You wont be disappointed. They also have club nights with DJs serving up reggae, soca, and dancehall music ❤️💛💚
Loved the atmosphere and the music. The food was really good, except for the oxtail, its my daughters favorite food and she didnt eat it. Said it tasted as if it was recooked, very chewy. I didnt try it but my jerk pork was amazing!
Casual atmosphere with delicious food! There is a stage in the main dining area. The band Comfort Food was playing some great jazz when I visited. The jerk seasoning is spot on. It has just the right amount of heat, with an abundance of flavor. The chicken was moist and perfect in everyway. Fantastic, especially for the price!
One of my go tos when I’m heading to Seattle. Food is very authentic and the people are very friendly. I love my Jamaican food! I recommend to everyone I know, you will not be disappointed
I love Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Oxtails! Ive had many great experiences at Jamaican Restaurants around the country on my travels. It was my first time at this Taste of The Caribbean Restaurant in Seattle. I had lunch here 12/29 around 12:30pm. I ordered Oxtails to go and Jerk Chicken for dine in. The Jerk Chicken was so delicious I had to ordered the same again to go with the Oxtails! My server Omar was also very friendly, welcoming, and personable! This place is definitely recommended, and I will be coming here again! 😊
Best soul food in the city! It’s my go to spot for lunch and evening drinks :)))
Food here is amazing but the service is off. Last time I came here I ordered a veggie patty but got meat. I brushed it off. This time I ordered festival and theres no sauce. You guys had no one dining in and 3 online orders including mines. If you decide to get takeout double check, hell, triple check as these guys forget something and save your tips until you have verified everything is in your order....
Great spot, very tasty jerk chicken and curried goat. Service has always been warm and the vibes are great. Make sure to grab a Red Stripe 💯
Best places to come very family oriented extremely good customer service the food amazing thank you guys. I will be coming back.
Just amazing man simply amazing real Jamaican employees real Jamaican food and nobody pretending everything is what you can expect from a Jamaican restaurant.
Soooo good. Dont go if you are in a hurry very laid back island pace. But the food is so yummy. The plantains are perfect. The Patty and coco bread delight. The brow stew chicken was fire 🔥
I didnt expect to come all the way up to Seattle and get a taste of home. I have no complaints. I ordered takeout so I didnt dine in, but I did pick up my order. As soon as I walked in I noticed the different flags of countries of the Caribbean lining the walls. I was so proud to see my Haitian flag up on the podium as well. The food itself was so good. It tasted like home. I will definitely come back the next time Im in Seattle.
Im not gonna leave a review for the service because Im sure this was a rare occurrence of waiting an hour for my soda and food(if they wasnt my people Im swining), but when the food came, it was delicious great proportions. I definitely recommend. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
This place is a hidden gem! The service is phenomenal and I’ve never felt so much like at being at home! Roger is so welcoming and charming! I am Jamaican and this is the closest authentic food I’ll get of my culture!
The curry is usually decent but not the best I’ve had. HOWEVER today I got the curry shrimp and it was seasoned perfect. Had enough curry sauce. Enough heat. Was really good. I need that chef all the time. Also try the stewed tilapia filet and the jerk wings both consistent and tasty. Last but not least the French fries are crinkle cut with some kind of seasoning that my kids prefer over McD fries. We ask for heavy season. The 20 min drive was worth it
The people here are fantastic! I had family visiting from Alaska so I brought them here to try the food and the staff was SO friendly even tho we didn’t arrive till just before closing. They were accommodating, super kind(even after we stayed past closing) and so eager to make our visit as welcoming as possible. Omar; the waiter went out of his way to make sure we felt welcomed and had everything we needed. I felt like he was genuinely enjoying his time interacting with us and that’s wonderful. The food is also very authentic! Lots of Caribbean flavors coming through and the playlist is top tier. If you’re ever in the area, definitely stop by- even if it’s just for drinks and vibes. I promise it’s worth it!
This place is a hidden gem. The food is excellent. Me and my daughter come her often and have never been disappointed.
This food was flavorless an not worth my money threw my whole plate away after just 1 bite this is why I’m not a fan of trying other foods other than what I am use to they give great portions but I can’t eat there again
Chicken wingChicken wingPatties and oxtailYour momma dont rum punch like meCallaloo festival
Best Jamaican food in the State of Washington hands down you wont regret it nuff said
I typically order the oxtail entree and the beef patty anytime I need some good reliable comfort food. It’s too good!
I ordered the oxtail entré… the rice was over cooked. The oxtail was not well seasoned. I am so disappointed. The only Jamaican spot near me and the food was not up to par.
The physical location could use a cleaning, but the food was delicious. My family is from Jamaica- the jerk chicken entree and beef patty were satisfying. The portions are large. They prices are reasonable. I will go back again the next time Im in Seattle.
I had a wonderful dinner here with friends. Chef Bigga was so warm and friendly, making sure to answer any questions we had about the food and giving his recommendations. I had the oxtail which was ~ so good ~ I also tried the jerk chicken which was also delicious. Highly recommend if you like good food and good vibes.
My second visit here. Staff are fast and friendly, the environment is very laid back. The food: insanely good. The jerk chicken is addictive. Festival bread and fried plantains are delicious. I havent tasted anything I didnt love and Ive tried most of the menu thanks to friends joining me.
I got racist vibes coming into here from every single male employee there. Im biracial (half black half white) and my skin tone is white. No one wanted to serve me once I was inside. I stood there for a solid 5 minutes or so at the please wait to be seated sign. A guy comes up and says oh you have a pick up for some one? I replied by saying no, Im looking to sit down and eat and the guy just walks away and doesnt come back. I wait a few more minutes and all the guys are just walking past me and giving me mug looks. I finally walk up to a lady and ask if I can grab a seat and she ends up being my server.I ordered beef patty and oxtail plate.Beef filling was flavorless but the pastry was good. Patty was as hot as fresh brewed coffee though.. I had to let it cool off for a few minutes before it became edible.Oxtail was pathetic. They dont cook the oxtails long enough. The thyme stems are left in the stew and bone splinters so you have to constantly pick them out your mouth while you eat.Rice and peas was horrible. While eating, I asked a male employee for some water. He looked at me and walked away again.I also saw a white couple come into the restaurant and no one would talk to or serve them besides the same lady who served me. Pretty pathetic in my opinion. Would never come back.
This is place is seriously legit. The food is amazing. They have Jamaican Beef Patties. And they are as good as the ones that I used to get in Toronto. Their Jerk Pork is also incredible - much better actually than any Ive had anywhere else. The jerk seasoning is a good amount of spicy. The West Indian style curry is also really delicious. In general, the food here has a slow building spice that can creep up on you. But man, its so good. The people here are also really friendly and laid back. The dining area, I wish was was a little brighter. One reviewer on here mentioned that he had bad service with Omar. In the past, Ive had some slow service with take out, especially on a day that they were short staffed. Omar however is a really friendly guy, and Im sorry that the other reviewer had such a bad experience with him.
Service was a little slow. To be fair, we got there about 40 minutes before close and they were setting up for an concert that happened after closing. The food was good. The codfish fritters and jerk wings were a bit on the salty side. The oxtails we awesome and very tender. Much better than I expected from reading the other review. My husband had the jerk shrimp which he said were pretty spicy. I will definitely be going back to try other menu items.
The flavor of the food was good. But that jerk chicken was well on its way to becoming jerky style chicken. It tasted like the chicken was cooked a day or two earlier which tasted old. Service was good.Response to owner- No, whats definitely true is that it was not fresh! And whats irresponsible is to not take in consideration your customer experience and follow up or fix the issue.
My bestie and I were in Seattle today and googled somewhere to eat, so super glad we chose A taste of Caribbean. They were having a private party inside, but offered us a shaded table outside. Very hot today, but not a big deal. The waitress was so super friendly. Very attentive and helpful. My bestie had the Ox tail, which I tasted and was delish. The meat was tender and so full of flavor. I had the brown stew chicken. So flavorful, perfect amount of spice. Delicious! Beans and rice were great as well. We also ordered fried plantains, not sweet but salty. Amazing! Loved them.I can’t say enough about the service and food.We will definitely be back.
Super tasty food. Fair prices.Ordered jerk chicken and callaloo and saltfish with red beans and rice. Taste was super good. wish I got more, but what I did get was deliciousMinus one star because our jerk chicken didnt come with any rice or salad or anything even though the menu said so - the plate was supposed to come with that. The whole place vibe is pretty great though. Would recommend and willing to try again.
I grew up in the Caribbean’s (18 years in the Dominican Republic). I can tell you for a fact that it definitely has a very Caribbean taste. It’s amazing 10/10! I recommend the jerk wings with rice and peas.
Let me start off by saying: Excellent service and atmosphere - authentic feel for sure. Food wasn’t the quality I expected for a highly rated Caribbean restaurant, most items were fresh and lacked seasoning. The festivals were great! I asked for an extra spicy red snapper escovitch style only to be brought to me not spicy at all…that was disappointing. Perhaps they cater too much to the North American palate.REPLY TO THE REPLY:My Escovitch snapper was bare and had a fingernail sized slice of scotch bonnet for the entire plate and you call that very spicy? C’mon now…
Great place to eat. I had the curry chicken today and it was great. Plantains were amazing. I usually get the oxtails, but I decided to switch it up. My only gripe is they said they wouldn’t have beef patties until Friday. That is something that should be available everyday. Please keep the patties regularly available.
I ordered the Oxtail plate and paid extra for the rice and peas and ended up with hard scraped up rice that seems like it was left in the pan too long.. The oxtails were tender and flavorful though the 3 out of the 4 I received were mostly fat *sigh*. I also ordered the rum cake and there was a foreign object of some sorts that nearly cracked my tooth! Its unfortunate because the cake was moist and was good. I reallllly wanted to love this plate, but unfortunately it fell short of my expectations.
Came here the other day with a group of friends. I wasnt too familiar with the food options, but the staff were nice, friendly, and helpful when helping us pick something. I had the curry shrimp and it was to die for. The flavors were balance and unique. Im glad I live near this place because I plan on going back soon.
I’m visiting from Miami, Fl so I had to give this one a try. Curry goat was delicious🔥 Red Stripe🔥 ting🔥 your money is well spent here! Give Taste of Caribbean a try, everyone is nice I felt like it was family. Thank you for a great evening.
I hate that I have to give 1 star definitely 0! I have eaten delicious Jamaican food in Jamaica, NY, CA and Houston for over 40 years this food lacked flavor didnt even have cabbage and no island spices at all just horrible! Do not waste your money!
Love the food and the cultural feel. I make the drive from Tacoma usually on Saturdays every once and a while. In fact Im going this evening. Always good service, great drinks, and amazing food. Id highly recommend this establishment if you have a taste for something with a great flavor.
This is the best food youll ever eat! I dont take the time to review restaurants. If you dont give this restaurant a chance, you will live an incomplete life. Regret will follow you through your life. I cant wait for Rona to be over so I can go in and enjoy a drink and heavenly food weekly! Try every dish eventually! Im a Punjabi woman and I cook bomb flavorful food on the daily. I would trust this restaurant with my family. Point blank!
Friendly and fast service for takeout, lots of menu choices but it seems like they run out of the patties fast! The jerk chicken spice was so good but the only drawback is that it seemed overly salty. The wings fell right off the bone so tender, and next time Id try the pork but if thats too salty too then Ill be sad.
I love carribean food, lots of restaurants on the east coast and family to make it for me. Arrived at restaurant very clean, guy at counter taking order was nice. I waited 20 minutes to place my order, process very slow, guy had difficulty multi tasking. Waited over an hour for my food, even someone who had phoned their order in waited about 45 minutes. Order was not complete. Rice and beans was ok. Curry chicken ok but very watery. Oxtail had better flavor but they only gave me 2.5 pieces. Pattys and coco bread good. Here pork was 90%fat, very soft like bacon before it is cooked. Once I fried it at home it was edited le. Good flavor. Curry chicken and oxtail was more hot than flavor, I dont know if they used bonnet peppers but overly hot and I enjoy spicy food. Spent 73 dollar not worth the money at all.
Ordered oxtails, plantain, rum cake, goat stew, ackee, fried dumplings and callaloo. I would only recommend the plantain and ackee from my list.
Very disappointed! I called prior to coming to make sure they were open. I was assured that they would be open until 9:00pm. I was happy about that because my husband and I really wanted jerk chicken. We proceeded to drive from University Place to Seattle (about a 45 minute drive) only to get there (about 7:15pm) and find out they closed. This was very upsetting because we called first! We understood that many restaurants were only offering take out due to COVID-19, which we were okay with, and it was our choice. It really would have been nice to respect the choice we made to support this business! In the future, well have to reconsider. Thankfully, Island Soul was there for us!
Went here years ago and ended up with raw chicken wings and partially frozen other food. Been craving beef patties and no where else can provide nearby… have things changed here as of late?
I love this place, it it one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. If youre looking for authentic Caribean food, then this is the spot. My favorite entree are the oxtails and their fish fritters are delicious as well. The owner is personable and always makes sure my guests and I have a great time. They host a monthly spoken word night as well...perfect for date night.
I am from Antigua, and usually its hard for me to find a good Caribbean spot... Until I found Taste Of The Caribbean! This place is legit-- Dont hesitate, order!**Ordered the curry shrimp (super amazing), oxtails (fantastically amazing), cod fish fritters (really amazing!), plantains (fantabulously amazing), jerk wings (amazingly amazing).
If you are looking for good authentic Jamaican food, this is the place!. Service was great, waitress and bartender was very personable. Bathroom was clean, drinks were reasonable priced. I knew I was at the right place when I saw the big smoker grill out front! Very nice patio area where you can eat outside or have a drink and smoke. Will return if Im ever again in the Seattle area. Nough respect!
Terrible service. Ive lived in NJ for years and they cant COMPARE to the Caribbean restaurant there. I went to Taste Of Caribbean with my uncle. He ordered their appetizer plater and I ordered the ox tails with white rice. The Sprite was too sweet and kind of flat. The group who came in 20 min after me were served first. I got up and left immediately.
This place is BOMB!! The jerk chicken wings fall of the bone. We tried the platter and everything was good good. Also the Curry chicken hits. The crazy thing is the rice and peas were EVEN better. Highly recommend, believe the hype.
I was visiting from out of town and wanted some “home food”, this place didn’t disappoint! Service was great. Everything was fresh, even the side salad. I had jerk pork and callaloo. I think they might have taken it easy on me with the jerk seasoning, but it was still great. Fall off the bone. Highly recommended.
Its hard to find decent Caribbean food in Seattle. This restaurant does a solid job of it but the flavors arent always as hearty as Id like (I grew up on Jamaican food). The service can be hit or miss as well depending on who is working but all-in-all I continue to visit and usually just call ahead and get takeout with no problems
Great Food, Friendly People, & Good Vibes all around. The Rice and Peas are bangin & they have Jamaican Patties. Definitely go to a show with DJ Redman if you can, hes an incredible DJ.
I know there are many reviews on here especially from New Yorkers saying that the food is authentic and comparable. As a New Yorker from the Bronx, where Jamaicans are known to smoke their meat outside daily, I have to strongly disagree with the mass. It wasnt bad, but its not authentic. If youre okay with mediocre, then help yourself. Another issue is that we are used to flavor, not salt. The peas and rice were very salty and lacking flavor. While I desire to support black businesses, we have to do better with representation.
I attended an event with catering from Taste of the Caribbean that included jerk chicken wings. I don’t even like wings normally but these were INCREDIBLE, so I had to go to the restaurant itself. My husband got oxtail and I had to get the wings again. We loved everything we got and will be back!
My 3rd day here in Seattle from New York City and I was looking for some good Jamaican food. I came up to this place and I loved the outside look. It reminded me of a true Jamaican restaurant in Jamaica. The guy who took my order was born in Manchester, JA so You know its real Jamaican food. I ordered the Jerk Chicken dinner and got a slushy with Appleton Rum (get that!!) This place is a Shyi Recommended, and Oh! the callaloo is good. 🙂
Good food and drinks! The owner is very personable with a great sense of humor. My wife and simply enjoyed talking with her. I look forward to their happy hour soon. This will be our new hang out!👌
The service is rather slow, but the staff and atmosphere are great, and all of the food is absolutely fantastic. We got a sampler of appetizers with our entrees, and all of those are delicious too. If you can take your time for a relaxed evening out, this place is definitely worth trying.
Best Caribbean food in the Seattle area! Im a regular for their ox tails, brown stew chicken, fried dumplings (or festival occasionally), and plantains.I always do takeout.
I recently moved to Washington and could not find real Jamaican seasonings or restaurants. I would hardly eat anything (especially being pregnant) so my husband and I decided to try googling restaurants and we came up on this one. I must say that the food is AMAZING!!!! It was a little quiet but I’m from Jamaica and most of our restaurants aren’t busy during the day so I’m used to it. We tried the appetizer platter, jerk chicken and oxtail with rice and peas. The meat was so tender and juicy and the rice and peas was cooked perfectly in coconut milk. It may be all the way on Capital Hill but it’s worth the journey. FANTASTIC FOOD AND SERVICE!!!
What more could you ask for? Flavor, value, and friendly service. First time customer and I ordered the goat curry, oxtails, and jerk chicken. Absolutely delicious and I will definitely return!
The food is always delicious and spicy. I love the Oxtails with peas & rice. I wish they had a restaurant in the South King area,, so that I dont have to travel 45 minutes.
My first time here from New York. At first the wait was long because someone called out which is total understandable especially now during the age of Covid. But, the wait was definitely worth it! I absolutely enjoyed everything & will definitely stop by again in the future.
We got there at 7:50 and waited an actual hour for food. When we got our food, the kids meal had raw chicken, like really raw chicken.Ok, so we walk in and after 35 min of waiting someone comes over and we order apps and entrees. 20 min later we get only get apps. 30 MORE min later the server asks us if we want boxes?!?!? We finally get our main food but its only half there. When we tell them the response is, the kitchen is closed. We finally got our check and left at 9:50.I was a bartender for a long time so I can forgive a lot but that was the worst!!P.s. the fritters were good but Im not sure of it was because they starved us before serving
I love carribean food but this is kind of Americanized. Its lightly spiced and personally, I was expecting those flavors extra special flavors. I had the snapper escovich which was a little dry, even with the peppers, onions, etc. It came with white rice which is fine if you like that. My kids loved the beef patties more than I did, next time well try the veggi pattie because I dont like minced beef personally. My favorite part was the plantains.
First time going here tried the ackee and salt fish with fry dumplings finger licking good dumplings was out of this world .Definitely going back to try everything on the menu. Patties were good too cant get anymore authentic than this...
I was a little disappointed last night in the service that me,and my friends recieved. Dont get me wrong. The food was great, but I felt like we were a burden. Thats normally what happens when the tip is calculated in the check. I guess just bad timing on my part, but I know its a great place for the most part, and they were under staffed as well.
Great Jamaican food. No complaints. Everything was fresh. Spices was amazing. I had to curry chicken, pastels, and beef patty. To bad they don’t have coco bread though.
OMG This place is a Truly amazing!! First time visiting today and i cant wait to return with friends, and family. I had the veggie patty and the Callaloo with saltfish. I must say i was nervous about the veggie Jamaican patty but it was bomb! I wasnt missing anything it was nicely fried with a nice crust which was slightly flaky with a semi spicy veggie stuffing. The Callaloo and saltfish was also amazing, seasoned perfectly. The staff was extremely nice and attentive.
The food is always good every time I come. I drive an hour to come here. Omar (light skin, bald male) is a horrible server. After ignoring me when I entered for several minutes and being told by another staff member to serve me he was subpar at best. I ordered cabbage as a side and when he forgot to put in the order he offered me a free beef patty instead of correcting the order. I don’t even eat beef! He was very nonchalant about his inadequate service. Omar needs some training! The jerk shrimp was good although the experience was ruined because of Omar.Update after Carlene’s response: Yes Carlene did say she would address Omar’s subpar service after the shift however, addressing this server does not negate my bad experience. I singled him out because the other servers that have served me have been great and that should be noted. Furthermore, I’m disappointed that I drove an hour to experience a server having “an off day.” Which is not an acceptable excuse.
Jerk chicken would fall of bone; however, lacked big jerk flavors and seemed cold to the touch. Beef patties were good but overall, nothing special.
My absolute favorite Caribbean restaurant in Seattle... and definitely among my favorite restaurants in the Pacific Northwest. I love the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and even the salad is delicious. Oh...the staff is great too.
Love the food here! My wife and I have had the jerk shrimp and curry, its delicious! So flavorful and the curry really is unlike any other curry Ive had. Highly recommend.
Food is always very home feel and delicious, so good and cooked to their perfection. True Island spices and ingredients. Their plantains are the best in Washington, caramelized to sweet, soft goodness.
Food is great but kinda spendy! The drinks are a major rip off. $9 for a drink with liquor from the well, but if you want a double, they double the price so be careful and always ask before you purchase. My friend and I had 2 drinks a peice and it came to $56. Almost fell out of my seat when I seen that then the owner was very rude when I asked her!Go around the corner to Ba Bar. Better service, better prices, and the food is very good!!!I wouldnt have given only one star had she not been so argumentative with me and defensive!!
This was the most authentic West Indian food I’ve tasted in Seattle. In was fresh and delicious.on top of that, they have black cake! Def will be going back.
This place gave me Brooklyn vibes. The photo was ok. Not as flavorful as I am use to, but still put a smile on my face. The beef patties are sooo delicious. Thinking about ordering a dozen to freeze for later.
A group of ladies and I ate here this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed all of the food and drinks. The server (bless her heart) was the only one serving the entire dining area as (we later learned) her co-worked unexpectedly went out of town. I think sometime after we arrived she finally called the owner to get some assistance. The owner came straight from the gym, still in her gym clothes, and immediately began helping customers. Both the server and the owner showed no outward signs of frustration - they were extremely professional AND even compd us on a Curried Pork entree (which was out-of-this-world fabulous). They apologized for the delay in service and appreciated everyones patience. The only caution I would give is in regard to the rum cake... because it is super strong!
Taste of the Carribean Tastes like Grandmas. Waiter was very pleasant. We were craving the Rice and Beans (made with coconut water), Plaintains both ripe and green ( Tostones). Hubby ordered Oxtail stew. They were melt in your mouth. We loved the Codfish Fritters, Fried Chicken and the Jamaican Patties. Decorated with the flags of the Americas and some art work. Seems like they painted the walls with Jamaican colors. Looks like they have live music because they had a stage but we went for the food and that made us happy.
I called this restaurant and no one answered. I called back an hour later and some guy answered. I asked if they were open and he said “I answered the phone so of course I’m open”. I asked another question and he was extremely short. You need better customer service Mon. Was bringing a group of 10 of us but you lost our business. Work on your phone etiquette
Serves most delicious Jamaican jerk, awesome location as well. Parking is Limited, you probably have to park a few meters away and walk to the restaurant. Best if you have a small group of friends, its a very cozy and small place not so good for large groups during rush hours.
Excellent food, excellent service, cool environment for a little bar. I recently reviewed another restaurant with Jamaican food. Won’t mention the name of that place in this review but this place was far superior and I will certainly return.
My go-to Jamaican joint that sells rum cake slices all year round. The patties are A1, and the jerk wings hit the spot. I genuinely enjoy picking up food here because the atmosphere with the dancehall/reggae music blasting in the background sets the vibe.
Incredible Caribbean food! Highly recommend the sampler plate and Kingston colada. Can’t wait to try more!
Best Caribbean in Seattle and they actually play good music for their club. Only four stars because finding parking is wild for the location.
Have been waiting one hour for brown stew chicken and festival and my friend got jerk wings and another curry chicken, we are still waiting about to walk out. Only staying because I want to pay for my drink but barely see the waitress to ask for check. Not worth the drive! Also the food is pre-made so you cant choose white meat. Waste of time!
The ackee and saltfish was true authentic Jamaican, my associate had the oxtail, it was well done the meat was just falling off the bone. The chef and team a seh one.Big up to the owners... Continued success
Food was as authentic Jamaican as you can get. Everything was good one bite took your tastebuds straight to the Caribbean. Service was also great and even a decent selection of Jamaican drinks including sorrel. This would honestly be a good restaurant in jamaica. I was so impressed that i had to personally meet the chef..,Bigs. Who was a true reflection of professionalism. His passion and love for cooking is one for the ages. Taste of the Caribbean is now part of my routine and i will be recommending them alot.
After searching for the last 6 years for an original Seattle spot with amazing Jamaican food, I have found it right here at Taste of the Caribbean. As a Jamaican, I like my Jamaican food, everywhere I go. the folks of TotC have brought me back to when I used to live at home with mommy in Jamaica and she would cook some incredible dishes. What tops it for me is the fact that their menu is extensive and has stuff that I cant even find here in the NW even though Ive lived here for the last 6 years.I live about 2hrs outside of Seattle and I find any excuse to go to Seattle just so that I can stop and TotC and get a quick bite and bring some home for the family.Their food is amazing, their staff is very pleasant, and the restaurant is very clean. Parking never seems to be a problem whenever I go either. The vibes is just pure Jamaican and I love !!!The only thing missing is the beach.
From miami the 305 area code ..in Seattle on business ..looking for a jamaican restaurant. ....came across taste of the Caribbean. .tried there ox tail......man ..taste ..flavor was finger lick-n -good. ....cant wait to taste the jerk chicken . lady who took my order made me feel like I was at home ....I must go back...before I leave. ....lovely establishment
My wife, native Trini and I, native new yorker were impressed. The beef patties were 1985--2 Train White Plains Rd Bronx style. Ginger beer puts hair on your chest. Curry chicken, rice and peas and plantains were on point. Club has music on Fridays and Saturdays. This is the place to be in the Seattle area.
If you know Caribbean food, you will love this please. Great Atmosphere and delicious foods!
The jerk chicken, red beans and rice, salad and fried plantain were all perfectly prepared and delicious. Very prompt service as well. Highly recommended.
Best Caribbean food in Seattle! I eat here frequently. The jerk chicken, the plantain, the beef patties, always perfect. Dont miss out
Love the food here! But the Jamaican or Carribean lady that serves has the worst customer service. Easily offended or upset, I mean you cab clearly see she is unhappy if she messed up taking an order. I honestly feel like walking out
Came here for first Friday. Ordered food at 7pm. At 8:30 pm we still didn’t get our food. We took it up with the server only for them to say “the kitchen is closed so we can’t do beef patties and we forgot about the fries” this is awful service and quite ridiculous. Never coming back.
Had the brown stew chicken a la carte. Was quite tasty. Deducted 2 stars because the inside of the restaurant is dark and musty and feels dirty. Could use a renovation.
Great people, nice laid back island atmosphere, authentic food and drinks ! I personally have tried the oxtail, goat, fritters, and patties everything has been delicious ! Looking forward to tasting the ackee n salt fish next round or the steamed fish yum !
Came here for a catered event and the food was excellent, my only small critique is that some of the tables were a bit close together, making it hard to navigate through the sitting area. Fine staff and lots of fun flags to look at.
Amazing experience. A exotic roundtrip to the Caribbean got my taste buds dancing to soothing reggae sounds around sexy people and health-conscious staff.Big up
Real deal. Portions are amazing too.
We’ve been ordering from here since the start of the year and can’t stop ourselves from coming back! Jerk chicken wings is the go to answer to “what do you want for dinner?” now and no one is complaining!
Great and friendly serviceRepresenting 758 in Seattle
This place has authentic food! We enjoyed jerk chicken, curry goat, and beef Jamaican Patty. The staff were friendly and provided good service.
Well so far all the reviews sounds great. Im visiting Seattle for the first time ,coming from Chicago on my birthday March 23 -March 28 and I Google u guys and I looking forward to enjoying that damn good.😉😉😉😉😉
Best jerk chicken in Seattle. Staff is always courteous and respectful. And did I say the food is AMAZING!
The food was outstanding I had the brown chicken stew... My only complaint too many bones other than that food has great flavor.
The food was great, I havent had food like this since I was last in Jamaica. The jerk pork and chicken was off the chain. The red stripe beer was on point.
This restaurant was amazing. I was not expecting to find the best jerk pork ive ever ate on the otherside of the country. 4000 miles from our homeland. If your looking for authentic jamaican food along with astounding service, then this is the place.
Food was expensive and the portions were small. I paid $4 for a soda and $25 for a dinner plate that only had 3 ox tails 😑
Great find! Super friendly staff! Had their patties for a snack and they hit the spot!! The ginger vita malt was a tasty add-on too.
The patty’s are so delicious I would eat them every day if I can and roger is the best he goes above and beyond to make u happy he keeps a smile on his face
The only truly Caribbean place in Western Washington- hands down! Their rum cake is only second to my dad’s. 😋
Good food but please be mindful of where you park on these off streets my vehicle was vanderlized and stuff was stolen.
Some of the best Jamaican food I’ve ever had. We got the appetizer sampler to go and it was a great mix of really good food
Spice level of the dishes were on point, hospitality could be better but it depends on the waiter.
Amazing food at great prices. Much worth the possible wait, which is usually only at the busiest of times.
Great food. Service courtious but a little slow. We were not in a rush so it was no big deal.
Usually the food is good her but this time my jerk pork was burnt and the fried chicken was not very good. Guess Sunday isnt a good day to order food.
Omg.i have been looking for a good jamaican restaurant in seattle.the best jamaican food ever.i love, love the food there price is just right.the people are friendly the music was like i was back home in jamaica again.i love it....thats my second home lol.i will be telling everyone about the restaurant.they will always get my business .
I I love this place Im from New York City originally and New York City had tons of Caribbean restaurant Taste of the Caribbean is one of the most authentic Jamaican restaurant & atmospheres in the Washington state area.
The food was excellent loved it. We had oxtail and it was so satisfying.
Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. The band was awesome. Didnt enjoy the poetry...
Absolutely love this place! Never disappoints. People are friendly, drinks are strong, food is tasty!
Belly full. Good food. A bit of a dive inside if you stay to eat. Stay if the crowd is good, or just get it to go like most seem to do. Great, tasty food.
It’s always a joy to come in here with my buddy. Very friendly staff, and good food!
The great music, ginger beer, beef patties, and dumplings are more than enough to give you the main idea of pure happiness. Island comfort.....
The food was delicious and flavorful!!! The portions were great!!! I’ll definitely go back soon!!
Jerk shrimp was 🔥Great service 👌Good music!
The food is always good. I absolutely reccomend eating here for great Jamaican food.
I came here once to try and buy jamaican patties but there customer service completely ruined my excited taste buds. I wont lie and say I wont try again though lol I cant find jamaican patties anywere else waaahh
Really great food, cant wait until the pandemic is over to get to enjoy the bar atmosphere
Good experience but they need more food especially when you are spending over $50. They quality of the food is bomb 💣
Food was excellent and authentic!! Great customer service and friendly environment..Definitely will be coming here on a regular bases...
Great food and chill environment. The waiter was super friendly.
The food is good. What else can I say!!! Except, go eat there 😋
They put a sauce on the chicken. I’ve been to Jamaica several times I ever seen a sauce on the chicken
Loved the great food and service.Definitely would recommend if you like authentic food and next time in town will stop by for that fish
Good jerk chicken. Not as spicy as it should be but after all its Seattle. Drinks are good and hella strong.
Ok food. Ox tails were skimpy. They give you plenty peas and rice. Small portions also.
If you want delicious and authentic Caribbean food, look no further! This place is the truth! This is the food I grew up on.
