I have the honor and pleasure of learning dancing skills under Jang Don, who is an accomplished national and international dance champion, still actively participating in world-wide competitions.Learning the art of dance under Jang’s expert instruction, I must say, has been an extraordinary experience. His mastery in International Standard and Latin, and American Smooth and Rhythm style, as well as his passion for dance are truly unparalleled. He possess incredible technical skill as well as has a gift for teaching and motivating his students.Under Jang’s guidance, I have not only improved my dance technique, but also gained confidence on the floor in the dance competitions. Since retired and widowed, my calendar opened to try new exciting activities. I have never danced ballroom until I discovered Jang’s Wednesday night classes in May, 2023. With his weekly classes I have become an amazing (a word expressed by my friends and onlookers) dancer.Under Jang’s diligence and devotion to his students, I now attend weekly ballroom-dance socials, Latin salsa socials and have successfully participated in a cha-cha/rumba showcase at Astra Dance Studio.Jang stands above the rest going beyond teaching the steps with beautiful fluid movements that make your dance stunning, graceful and the envy of others. His talent and accomplishments surpass most—one you would expect from NY or LA. And we have him in our backyard.Jang is a professional dancer/choreographer at DanceSport, the ballroom competitive dance world. He has a Master of Dance and Education at New York University and a Ph.D in Dance. If that was not impressive enough, Jang N Adele Don, his wife are constant and “recent” winners of world-wide competitions. As one of the winners at the worlds most famous ballroom dance competition of international significance—the prestigious Blackpool London Dance Festival—they have reached the ultimate dream and goal of all competitive ballroom dancers.Their awards have been steady and continuing to date, keeping them in good form and knowing the latest techniques. Recently they won the 2nd place in American Smooth at the second top worlds dance competition at 2024 UK Open Dance Festival.Personally, the Wednesday night classes have transformed me from an awkward into a graceful ballroom dancer in a short time. His techniques have followed me in all my dances, whether ballroom or Salsa/Bachata, and even made me a better Zumba dancer.This month of February we are learning the Waltz at 6:10 pm and Rumba at 7:10 pm.
