Mooi Salon and Spa

Brian permed my hair on July 25th. He used improper techniques, failed to monitor processing time and fried my hair.He left me in the chair over 5 minutes to go get more processing liquid and did the same for the neutralizer thereby over processing my hair on top of poor technique. My hair has breakage everywhere and is stiff, sticky, unmanageable, lifeless and unless wet and loaded with conditioner or detangler, I cant run my fingers through it. It had parts like my bangs and other places where he improperly applied the solution and missed entire sections. The stylist and owner threw me out of the shop when I returned to settle amicably and threatened to call the police. Told me to sue so I am.So far: damages in excess of $500, products, treatments to make my hair more manageable, but damage is permanent and will require tons of extra daily preparation to style. So far Ive had two appointments with 2 unrelated cosmetologists to document the damage and sign affidavits with notary, all of which I had to pay for.My hair is to mid back and of course I paid extra for length, chemicals, wrapping etc. I will most likely have to cut off 16 years of growth, but I have breakage all the way to the base of my scalp. Brian doesnt know or doesnt care what hes doing. They placated me first 3 days saying everything was normal. Then when I tried to show them the damage on my correction appointment. (I had NO intention of letting them put more chemicals or treat my hair in any way but they were ready to perm my hair again at that appointment when it is obviously damaged. All I wanted was for them to wash and observe my hair, listen and work out a solution but she threw me out. I waited and got the name and contact information of a patron in the salon who left after me but was present during the entire episode. I recorded both visits and I took photos before, all during and after my visit bc I was immediately put off by Brian being heavy handed and telling me what a bad mood he was in. I should have WALKED OUT. DONT BE A VICTIM STAY AWAY FROM THIS SALON. Let me add that I went directly to another salon the same day, and they did a $50 smoothing and anti breakage treatment and bought a hair mask to take home. Went to 2nd salon 3 days later. And please reserve that footage like I politely asked. I will be adding more photos of damage to prove that my claims are exactly as stated.

We (my daughters and I) recently visited Mooi Hair Salon and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive from the moment we walked in. The stylist (Bryan and Alicia) listened carefully to what we wanted and gave excellent suggestions, resulting in a fantastic haircut, color, and style that we love. The salon was clean, modern, and had a relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend Moy Hair Salon to anyone looking for top-notch hair care and outstanding service.

Nat was absolutely fantastic! I showed her my inspo pics and we hashed out what we should do with my hair. An hour later I left with exactly what I wanted, plus the knowledge of how to style it so it looks salon professional even when I do it! Highly recommend this salon, just make sure you ask for Nat!

I drove from two hours away to see Bryan, ‘ The perm king’ To get a spiral perm. It was absolutely worth it. My hair turned out great!! I will definitely be back, and I cannot recommend him enough.

Until 2022 I had the same hairstylist for 30 years. After we parted ways, I have searched for a hairstylist that was confident, talented, compassionate and understanding of the changes to womens hair as we mature (over 50). There are many changes to a womans hair as we age and it is not an easy transition. Thanks to Natalie for being such a confident, competent and understanding hairstylist. She handles my hair with such care and compassion. For the first time in years, I love my hair! Thank you Natalie!

It was my first time at this salon and I was nervous as not many stylist I came across know how to deal with Asian hair. I came in expecting to chop my hair off to shoulder length because of how thick, coarse, and long my hair was but Alicia advised me otherwise after telling her my concerns. Taking the shape of my face into account, She was able to create many beautiful layers, taking off lots of weight and thickness and I was still able to keep the length of my hair!! She did an amazing job explaining what she was going to do and I was comfortable the entire time.Highly recommend!

First time here for partial highlights and looking forward for my next visit. Starting by the online booking; simple, fast and clear. I was welcomed by Nat who nicely offered something to drink and chocolate. I came with a previous disappointed hair coloring and she took the time to completely make me look like a different person. I had a wonderful experience getting a perm from Julie recently. Her team was incredibly friendly and efficient, and Julie provided helpful tips on caring for my new perm. Plus, they offered me some delicious Cabernet to enjoy during the appointment, which was a nice touch. As someone who wasnt accustomed to perms, I was really impressed with the experience. I highly recommend their services!

My hair dresser is Bryan, I absolutly loved the perm he gave me. I was nervous at 1st because the only peeson I trust with my hair is in NJ, so I took my chances, and let me tell you from the time you scheduled your appt, until the time you leave the Salon is nothing but professionals your dealing with. This salon ruined my hair. I gave it 2 stars because the people were friendly, but they dont seem to know much about chemical relaxers. I usually get a Japanese thermal straightening whenever I visit Atlanta but decided to get a chemical relaxer on the advice of the stylist and the owner. They said it would be better than the Japanese thermal straightening and more affordable. The process took about an hr which was great but it did not straighten/relax my hair at all and now it feels so coarse and rough... after paying $200 I expected better results. The owner did try to rectify the situation by offering my money back but I am more disappointed by the lack of knowledge of the chemicals and products they use on their customers. ***In response to you saying you told me to not wash my hair for a few days is a COMPLETE LIE. I asked Brian several times when I could wash my hair and he said I could wash my hair THAT VERY NIGHT I GOT THE CHEMICAL RELAXER! HOW DARE YOU TRY TO LIE TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE I CAUSED THE PROBLEM!!! AND WHEN I ASKED ABOUT WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO WHILE I WAS AT THE SALON BRIAN SAID ANY TYPE IS FINE BUT WHEN I CALLED TO COMPLAIN, THATS WHEN YOUR STORY STARTED CHANGING!!! HOW DARE YOU TRY TO BLAME IT ON ME?! YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW BASIC INFORMATION UNTIL YOU CALLED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE CHEMICAL RELAXER USED ON MY HAIR! ZERO STAR BUSINESS!!! I loved the vibe from the moment I walked in. Everyone is super friendly and inviting. I was offered refreshments multiple times and my hairstylist, Alicia, made sure I felt completely comfortable with the hair process multiple times throughout my session. Explained everything in detail and made sure I knew exactly what I was getting into lol. I had a keratin treatment done for the first time and Alicia did amazing! I love my hair, it’s so silky and smooth, exactly what I wanted. I’ll be coming back for sure.

I’m happy with my cut. Alicia was very nice, always check along the way see if that cut is good or need any adjustment. Clean and nice environment.

I cannot recommend this salon more. From the second I walked in, the owner made me feel right at home. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome, offering me coffee and Italian chocolate. My stylist, Alicia is a true color artist. She took her time truly listening to my various hair requests, made several suggestions, and then carried out my vision to perfection. Ive been getting my hair permed for 9 years. The last few times I had my hair permed was a disaster. My hair wasnt curly and was super frizzy after getting it permed. I wasnt sure if it was due to my hair, the product, or inexperienced hair techs. I decided i would get my hair permed one last time. If it didnt work out, then i would give up on my curly hair era. If it did, then i would continue.My experience with Mooi Salon: On Saturday I went into this salon and got my hair permed by Brian. He double wrapped my hair with the curlers and used extra perm solution. When he was finished with my hair, i had the BIGGEST smile! I couldnt believe it! Usually after I get my hair permed, I walk out of the salon looking like a poodle lol and have to wait a few days to wash and see if it turned out good. Not this time! I felt like me again. Like my confidence was back. I went home and looked into the mirror once again and laughed with pure happiness. Few days later, after my first wash, and its unbelievably gorgeous. I honestly couldnt be happier. Mooi salon just gained a lifetime customer.Thank you so entirely much! I absolutely love my hair. For the first time in a long time, I feel beautiful. I now have hope once more. I very very highly recommend Mooi Salon to anyone getting their hair done. 10/10 recommend!

I first learned about this salon after my stylist, Brian, started working there. The location is great - its convenient (if you live/visit the regular downtown area), and the staff is incredibly friendly.I usually get the following services there: 1) Relaxer, and2) Color and Conditional treatment. I am a pretty low maintenance person so I dont do intricate styles (especially for it to succumb to Florida humidity) and I have never had a problem with either of those services there.Note: to the person who recently claimed their hair was ruined by relaxing, I would like to say that while Im truly sorry you didnt receive the excellent service I regularly receive, you lost me at claiming that you were told you can wash your hair after relaxing it on the same day. As a person who has done this for many of their adult years (despite having a sensitive scalp), I can say that I have never and would never ever wash my hair the same day as a relaxer, and no stylist I have ever had would ever recommend that. You shouldnt need to wash it on the same day because it already gets throughly washed to get the treatment out, and your roots/scalp need some time (days) to adjust to the effects of the relaxer. It is within your right to be dissatisfied with your experience, but its equally important to get some facts straight. [To the salon: I know you dont need my help with defense, and Ill be happy to remove this paragraph if you request it.]Anyway, the salon allocates my time for services perfectly as I am usually done on or before the time they have set. I like that I can call, or book my appointments online as well.I highly recommend this salon.

Bryan is amazing 🤩 the salon 💇‍♀️ really takes care of you like you are family. The owner always serves wine and fruit. I get weekly blow out from them, eye brows waxed and have had extensions put in and taken out. They are so caring and do such a good job a highly recommended!!!!

Absolutely LOVE everyone and my stylist (Alicia) I went a few weeks ago to just get my hair blowed out, and I knew she would be who I would come back to for my haircut. Today I got my haircut & Alicia delivered exactly what I wanted, from the haircut itself to the styling it afterwards. I cannot praise Bryan and his skills enough. I showed him 14 various pics and he knew how to make each of the parts I liked into reality. My hair was long, heavy, with grown out highlights in desperate need of help. He made sure it got it and then some!Bryan is a magician w highlights blending them seamlessly w the old ones and my pesky greys. He then gave me a long layered cut, full of swingy movement, without losing my length. Its truly gorgeous and exactly what I (with my 14 pics) hoped for!Natalya, as always, was the perfect host, offering wine, chocolate, and wonderful conversation. Its like spending time w good friends. The entire experience was amazing and I definitely recommend Mooi!

I followed Bryan Cross to Mooi when he started there in early January 2023. Bryan just understands my hair (which is curly and I also wear it straight sometimes). He is quick and efficient. Plus, the blowouts he does do not make my hair frizzy and last me almost a week, I started coloring my hair about 6 months ago and this last time I went (which was the first time I was at Mooi), the color seemed so much better. The location is also very convenient.

Salon Athena is my favorite salon I’ve ever been to. LISA IS THE BEST!!! She makes sure you are happy with everything , and gives the best customer service and experience!! It’s always super clean, and relaxing environment! The owner is very friendly and always greets you or offers coffee, water. Lisa made me feel beautiful again, and I highly recommend Salon Athena , and if you are getting color Lisa knows how to do everything and anything!!! Prices are affordable too!! I will never let anyone else touch my hair now that I know how amazing she is!!

Bryan is an Excellent hair dresser. Very quick but precise. I got a root touch up & haircut with blow out. Bryan got no color on my skin as Im highly allergic & no water in my ears. There is no other hairdresser that can do that. He is so talented. Thank you Bryan:)

My friend wanted me to come along to this new spa called, Mooi. & to be honest i was hoping to get a blowout while she was going for her facial so my friend hooked me up with the website & i was able to book on my way to the spa...LOVE that. Bottom line: ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDI’ve gone to Salon Athena twice now. Both times I was absolutely amazed! My first stylist was Nadia who cut and layered my hair. I’m always pretty nervous about getting a haircut but she was so detailed and made sure everything was even and even styled it for me afterwards.This last time I had my hair cut/highlighted by Lisa. First time ever having highlights. Lisa was SO THOROUGH. It was later in the day but she still took her time and didn’t rush through it at all. She picked out the perfect shade of blonde and toner and gave me highlights that blended flawlessly into my hair. I have never been so happy with my hair. I gave her a general idea of what I wanted and she ran with it.The building is super clean, all the professionals working there are extremely nice and willing to work with you for what you want. And for the amount of detail and style they put into your hair the prices are great. Will always come back here!!!

The salon itself is beautiful and everything is very clean. They were quick to offer me a beverage and made me feel like I was being taken care of. I went in for a cut and color. Alicia did a really great job and was a joy to talk to also. I will be returning 🙂

Lee was a wonderful stylist and listened to what I want. I had messed up my hair cutting it myself and she did a wonderful job fixing it! I love my new hair cut and will definitely be using this salon again. Clean and punctual and great staff! Highly recommend!

I can definitely say now that I found myself an amazing hairdresser here in South Tampa! I needed hair keratin done and a trim and found the perfect place. I moved here from Ocala where I had a stylist for many years that I loved. Kept driving back there to have her cut my hair because I could not find a salon here that I was satisfied with. Lisa was so amazing! I came in not really having a plan and she was so thorough in helping me pick out the best hair colors/shades for my skin tone and natural color. This was my first time going to Salon Athena and I was not disappointed. I showed up really early for my appointment and they still took me right away. The place is clean, charming and the staff are really friendly. Mel is the one who cut my hair, she did a quick chair side consultation and we discussed what I wanted and what she thought would look good on me based on my needs/concerns and she did a great job. She gave me a hair make-over that I needed. If you are looking for a new place to try, I would recommend you give the ladies at Salon Athena a chance :)

Second time visiting, first time under new owner. Julie did a partial highlight, cut and blow dry. The color and cut came out nicely and Julie was pleasant. I asked for a price before the services began and was quoted 195. The highlights being 90 which is fair, haircut 60 and blow dry was 45. I think the blow dry should be included with a 60 dollar haircut that took less than 5 minutes. The blow dry was mediocre, she didn’t use styling products and made a comment about my hair having no body. The owner also informed me when checking out that they needed to use more toner and charged me an additional 25 dollars. She also asked where I got my eyebrows done and said I should come back so she could “fix them”.

What a wonderful experience. The salon is beautiful and everyone was so welcoming, I am looking forward to my next visit. Hands down the best facial I have ever had in my life!

This is a beautiful salon with such friendly staff! They offered me a drink while I got comfortable in the salon robe to protect my clothes and Ronny was so easy and fun to talk to while she did my color. The owner even came and made sure I was having a good experience and chatted with me too. The salon was clean, elegant, and the washing sinks even had foot rests for the clients. I can honestly say this was one of the most comfortable experiences Ive ever had at a salon. I definitely recommend going and giving their services a shot.

I have been a client of Nadia’s for a couple years. I brought up an issue (one time) I was having with my hair and was treated terribly. I will not go back. My hair has a shelf from the cut. The color took $450 worth of color correction. I was surprised at the lack of professionalism and courtesy especially when Nadia blamed me for the color issues I experienced. I had to go in every three weeks because the new growth was nearly an inch long. My hair had spots and the blending on a partial highlight was terrible. Dont waste your time or your money.

Me and my mother have been here about 3 times and we have gotten our hair done by Chrissy, she’s amazing. She has colored and cut my hair twice now and I am in love with the results every time. The whole staff is very kind and professional, if you’re looking for a good salon to try I would really recommend this one!

From where to even start? My mom and I run into this place one day randomly and since then we can’t live without! She sectioned and cross referenced strands to make sure the hair cut looks balanced. I may have found my salon!

After bad hair cut in the past, I was nervous about my hair cut with someone new. I am not one to ever leave reviews ever, but I went in to get a full set of highlights and a haircut. I asked for layers and im not sure if layers are supposed to look like but i am not satisfied with the outcome .Keep in mind i asked to keep the length and i said long layers, I have been getting full set of highlights for years now and i can definitely say that the highlights they gave me are not even. Its as if they only did more highlights towards the front of my head and the rest look like they arent even there. Hence i showed pictures as references and although i dont expect them to do it exactly the same i would at least expet them to tell me if they cant do it. It was also a picture of my own hair from a previous hair salon visit in another hair salon, so its not like the picture was an unrealistic expectation. The hair cut just feels super uneven all throughout my hair. I feel so bad that i have to complain and i felt so bad to say i didnt like it when i got it done but when i got home i started looking at it and i really dont like it and i paid like 200 for it. Overall not a good experience for me here and its really upsetting that i cant fix my hair i just have to wait for it to grow back.

I went to Lisa at Salon Athena before the salon changed ownership. I absolutely loved her. Without notice, the cost doubled for the same treatment. High-end cost for a mediocre salon. Lisa went to Salon Lofts and I am seeing her there now.

This is my first time at Athena salon and I have to say Im impressed. My hair stylist mel not only gave me the exact hair cut I wanted but was also willing to wash my hair before trimming my hair with scissors and after to get cut hair pieces out !

First time trying them out and I was very impressed. My hair is super difficult to lighten without it turning out orange and brassy. For my first appointment and having it turn out a beige blonde is excellent. I would highly recommend.

She is very skilled with her cut and color. She is also very honest with her thoughts on her work and adjust it if she needs to. This salon is also reasonably priced. There is a promotion going on for first time customers so I got a great deal but pricing before discount is very reasonable. I am very happy with my cut and color and I will be coming back and referring friends!
