Happy Hour Destination thanks to the Bartender Genesis! Y’all make sure to tip her well!the seven dollar happy hour but…Let me starts with something I will never be able to forget! Their $9 frozen drinks my PERSONAL favorite Spicy and Passionate (Milagro Tequila, Mezcal , passion fruit with jalapeños to complement the drink to its perfection. When you read “the name says it all” BELIEVE cause I was like say less! Ok back to the actual menu and some of the best things listed.$7 cocktailsHuge variety of classic cocktails and other specialty drinks I didn’t get to try because I was on a frozen kick this day.$24 Tokyo Punch BowlThis drink I had to ask about but counts get cause I was rolling solo but I here is a hoot. The $7 happy hour doesn’t only extend to drinks but also food. Got to try the momo chicken (highly recommended by (Genesis)and great classics like spicy salmon and California rolls. The staff is great, the indoor space becomes a a night club on the weekends serving the best salsa, merengue and bachata.🙂
I recently visited and had an incredible experience. Their happy hour options are fantastic, offering a wide variety of delicious and affordable choices. Every item on the menu was worth trying, and I was impressed with the quality and flavor of each dish. We worked with Dennis, who provided excellent service and made our visit even more enjoyable. His recommendations were spot on, and he ensured that we had everything we needed. Tokyo Pearl is a must-visit for anyone looking for great food and a vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Super cool vibe and fun atmosphere but won’t be back. Food was good, not great. Portions were small for price. But biggest issue was service. Had a reservation but had to wait because the hostess was also a server and bartender. Come to find out, there were only 3 servers for the entire place and they were also simultaneously the bar tenders, so they were literally running back and forth. I was actually kind of stressed for them. We had to leave our table and go to the bar to ask for the check after waiting about 20 mins just to ask for the check. FYI they also add a 20% gratuity for all checks. Biggest issue, they need more servers.
Tokyo Pearl is a vibe. Outdoor & indoor seating, both are decorated and felt cozy. I loved my unique seat, it hung, and is so soft. It was fun swinging in it, too! It was a busy evening (happy hour times 4-7pm), so wait time was a reasonable 10-15ish minutes. But, the food was worth it! The dumplings came hot and the sauce was fire. Same with the sushi, I enjoyed every bite. The servers were putting in their best effort and you could feel how much they care about your food experience. Mizael and Richard were lovely hosts, they served me with kindness. You could tell how much work they were dealing with but they still maintained a great attitude. I felt comfortable with them. I also enjoyed that you could visibly see the chefs cooking if you walk in fully, they also had great attitudes and make you feel welcome. Overall, I enjoyed my time there, I went alone and it felt like great self-care. 10/10 would recommend.
Friday nights are busy. We had dinner reservations made, but arrived 10mins late. Not sure it would have mattered since the people seated were taking their time. Seats were open at the bar and enjoyed happy hour there. The Manager was awesome and very accommodating. Drinks were made quickly and delicious; recommend the yuzu margaritas and Tokyo punch 👍. We ordered the dumplings, which were very good. Street parking was available. We left before the night club opened.
- Outdoor area is nice, basic Instagram vibe.- I got the dirty tater tots (just plain tots with paprika, green onions, and mayo drizzled on top) we’re not cooked all the way, still kind of uncooked/cold in the middle.- Tuna and salmon Sushi were good but they def skimped on the salmon- service was horrible, waitress didn’t check on us for like half an hour so we all just walked to the bar to get our bill. 22% gratuity is included in tab so we figure that’s why they aren’t attentive.Likely won’t come again- can get happy hour somewhere else.
I recently dined at Tokyo Pearl Restaurant and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The ambiance was inviting, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive.I decided to try the Double Pearl, which was a true highlight of the evening. The presentation was great and the flavors were exquisite. Cooked, tender, and juicy, with a rich, flavorful teriyaki sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and savory. It was an absolute delight to my taste buds. I highly recommend. Will be returning.
I went for happy hour and had a great time. The happy hour was all night & they had a great menu selection. The drinks tasted great and the staff is very accommodating. Cute place as well!!!
The bar itself was cool but this restaurant is set up in such an odd fashion. Greta deals for happy hour but every cocktail is overly sweet, executed horribly and the sushi is that of a grocery store.Servers are super attentive and welcoming but the food is just garbage. Also the flys and gnats get into the soy sauce and die.
Super cute place (dark neon light inside, floral patio outside)! And good happy hour deals ($7/certain drinks, apps, basic rolls). But the portion for the amount/quality of regular food they give is definitely lacking... like their regular rolls are just 6 pieces but $11.50 for eel avo? for a special dragon roll, $17.50? Maybe this is just DC pricing that Im not used to yet tbf. Servers also seemed very nice but spread thin
7 of us came in for happy hour and it was great. The hours are wonderful and we will be back. The punch bowl cant be beat. 10/10 would recommend!
The servers took hours to come to our table just to get my order totally wrong and be very rude about it. The food was not very good with multiple dishes going unfinished. We considered dining and dashing because the servers would not come to give us the check. There is 22% automatic gratuity which allows the servers to go get a snack instead of serve their tables.
The first time I ate here, I ate dinner back in April. The outdoor seating is really cool and a unique atmosphere, and we sat on these comfy, floating chairs. We ordered some wine and sushi, and as someone who doesn’t like Sushi, the crab meat one was amazing. If you want a cool first date spot for someone who likes sushi and latin music, this is the spot. I’ve only been to the club here so seeing the restaurant was a different but welcome experience.I’ve been to the club part many times before, I think this is what Tokyo is most known for. The DJs always play good latin music, and DJ Saal is my personal favorite, he has good mixes but is also a funny MC. Local music artists frequent this spot a lot, so maybe you’ll catch some rising stars on a weekend. Two different vibes in the club and restaurant but they’re both great.
Great atmosphere and lovely decorations. See their “sushi garden” in the back of the restaurant! There is some lovely seating in egg chairs for duos and some decorated tables for 3-4 people. All highlighted with seasonal decorations and lights. I came during Halloween season so there were colored spiderwebs on everything. The atmosphere was amazing. The food… not so great. It was edible at least, but portions were small with high prices and the quality was terrible. I tasted both a raw salmon dish and the chicken teriyaki and both were mediocre. Don’t come here for the food.
Had the opportunity to visit for Happy Hour ($7 food / drink). Service was quick and friendly, unfortunately the food was mid and not memorable except the lychee martini! One thing to note, there was 22% gratuity automatically added to our bill (we were a party of 2).Drinks we ordered,- Yuzu Margarita- Peach Lychee vodka- Lychee Martini ($9)Food we ordered,- Chicken dumplings, these were good but 2 for $7, Ill pass!- Momo chicken, was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, was indifferent about it!- Japanese dirty tots, lightly seasoned tots with kewpie mayo sprinkled on top - just OK.- (2) bao buns (beef & pulled pork), on Tuesdays baos are 2 for $9. The beef was good, but the pulled pork was salty.
Undisclosed 20% gratuity automatically added to tab AFTER you pay and tip on your own so you’ve tipped twice for mid everything. And I don’t think anyone Japanese or Asian runs this place. The vibe is American imagination appropriation with dark neon club inside and bright artificial sakura outside. The spicy salmon is made with smoked salmon aka lox. The ‘Japanese’ dirty tots were squirted with mayo and topped with Old Bay seasoning. Couldn’t even do bonito flakes or furikake? Geez. Tots were crispy and good but in no way Japanese. Happy hour drinks were fun and sweet. Soft spoken server seemed nice but forgot half the drink and food orders. Food is fine and drinks are fun but it’s American fusion I guess.
There was a security guard that was working last night. He was very unprofessional and rude. He was man handling ladies and stealing extra money from them even though they already paid to get in. He was pocketing cash and told them he was the manager when they asked to speak to the manager. These types of people should never work with businesses . He was a huge man. Putting his hands on ladies, this should be taken very seriously. I highly doubt the manager will be a security guard outside. Be CAREFUL
Was visiting from florid and Everything about this place is just magnificent. Came in for dinner with friends great deals , greats drinks and great food. To my surprise they had FRIED ICE CREAM!! Another thing that I didn’t know is that they are also a club so we stayed and party.thanks to poncho for treating us with respect and treating us like we were the guest honor. They had a dancer so we bought the big table that night. The lights the lasers the music especially the bartenders. I’m definitely coming back for my bachelor party
Food was good, service left a bit to be desired but we had a larger group so I understand that makes it more difficult for servers. Overall, I enjoyed the sushi & appetizers here but it was nothing out of the ordinary.
Great food (try the sushi) fast and nice service. Plus a very photogenic dining area. Would definitely recommend their happy hour specials!
Food was ok. Not amazing, not bad. The drinks were good. The playlist was all club music though, which I personally find infuriating when I’m sitting down to eat, I know other people like that though.
This place will blow your mind! With great food and great party experience you definitely won’t regret this decision.Enjoy and have fun!
The happy hour prices were good and the food is good but they kept getting our order wrong and the drinks were nasty.
Absolutely terrible service and management. Waited an hour to ask about our entree that never came out and the manager accused us of getting the wait time wrong and had zero remorse over the situation. Auto 22% gratuity. Awful manager with an awful attitude.
Service definitely was great upon arriving, food was exemplary and the environment was very welcoming and friendly. Will for sure be coming back again and the Friday nights at Tokyo are my favorite part.
Basic sushi. i was there alone at empty bar and the guy had his back to me for a solid 5 minutes doing something on the computer. i almost left but i was hungry. the bill came and it wasn’t itemized at all but it didn’t add up. i finally got his attention and asked about the total and he informed me that it included a 20% gratuity. no indication of that on the bill, but there was a place to add a tip. very sneaky. also saw a giant rat outside, although it was clean inside and may be unrelated. saw 2 cars with smashed windows on the street and more broken glass. not a place I would bring a date.
Service was amazing, food was perfect, and the environment was like none other. Will come back again and Friday nightlife is the best.
This place looks really pretty and they have cool chairs and decor, but thats where it ends. Over priced and such a lack luster choice of sushi that it makes me wonder if they just get the ones from the grocery store. Service was pretty slow even though the place was empty.
The best sushi happy hour by Dupont Circle! The owner Steph was very informative and hospitable! Will be back again soon!
I’ve been to a lot of sushi restaurants across the globe. This one is unprofessional, the food is subpar, and the only thing that is mildly decent is drink menu. It’s bad business to put a 20% gratuity charge on the bill for anything less than 6 people. I asked to have it removed because it’s not legally or morally acceptable. It cost my waiter part of his tip to have this on the check. The food is subpar for a sushi restaurant. The salt for the edamame was haphazardly applied to the edamame and only on some of the top pieces. The tempura shrimp roll was basic and had a large amount of rice. 6 pieces was a fine size for a happy hour roll. The Tokyo roll however was $18 and only came with 6 pieces. It advertised white fish, tempura, and a “Tokyo sauce”. When it came out the top of the sushi was covered in pickled red onion and ginger which overpowered the white fish and tempura. Also when I deconstructed the roll to find the white fish there were mini slivers of white fish in the mess of red onion. Overall it just tasted like the red onion and nothing else. The only “Tokyo sauce” I could find was a small drop of mayo on the top.I’m sad because the person working the desk at the Hyatt Place recommended this place for good sushi and it frankly makes me mad they would recommend such a place to anyone. At least the lychee martini was decent.I usually don’t write reviews because I talk with the owner or manager about their restaurant. This one didn’t even meet my expectations to talk with someone who could affect change at the restaurant. My recommendation: switch to a full time bar and stop serving sushi that isn’t good.
We had an excellent time. We were seated outside
Well what can I say other than so disrespectful.Let me start by saying I’m retired from the restaurant business. We were seated myself and my daughter and 4 girlfriends. My daughter forgot her credit card. While we went to the car they moved the rest of the party to a table for 4 so they could accommodate a part of 12. I found this after talking to the manager. While I wanted to leave my daughter and friends were embarrassed and stayed I did leave I was in town for one night I had an Air bb I haven’t seen her in 3 months. I hope the extra couple of covers were worth it. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I picked them up later but sorry nothing good to say except I hope this was a one off.
The ambience was nice because of the beautiful decor. They have cute chairs on one side for parties of 2, but the tables are low to the ground making it difficult to enjoy the meal without spilling food on yourself. Also, there are plants lining the wall that attract bugs, so I wouldn’t recommend sitting at those tables. We asked to move and were given another table with no issue. The food was great until I spotted a hair in my sushi. I made the waiter aware of the hair, asked that the sushi roll be remade and it was. There was no apology for the hair, nor was the waitress appalled. In fact, she left the sushi roll with the hair on the table and on the same plate with our other sushi. When we requested the check, it came out and I was charged for the roll. I believe it’s proper etiquette to comp anything that has to be remade due to an issue caused by the restaurant. It was only removed from the bill after my friend mentioned that it was an issue of decency and integrity. This same waitress was appalled by this request, but not by the hair in my food. My last issue is that there is an automatic 20% gratuity added for the table, no matter the size of the party.
I am currently here, ending my dinner with my guest from out of town and we are upset at the mandatory 20% tip. We received very poor service today. One younger gal, Genesis, was very nice and greeted us well. But our server, who is supposedly the manager tonight, never greeted us and kept passing our table without ever bringing water or taking our orders. There was only one other table next to us the whole night. After about ten minutes, I stopped the manager to asked for water. She brought the water and I placed an appetizers order. When I had questions about items I saw on the online specials, she was rude when telling me they didn’t have any. About ten+ minutes passed and she never came back to take our order. Instead, Genesis came over and helped us. She even brought us our appetizers and came back a few minutes later to check on us, not our server/the manager. We had to ask twice for the candles on our table to be lit. Our water cups were empty and we had to ask twice for them to be filled. Our server was as rude and standoffish every time as if we were working for her. We didn’t see our server for a long time and had to ask Genesis for the check. She got our server/the manager. This service is not even worth 15%. I’m so disappointed that my out of country guest had this experience. We hope the tip goes to Genesis, she is wonderful.
Came here for me and my friend’s birthday. The ambience was nice, the food was OK but the service was horrible. We chose this place because they could accommodate a group of 16, which was nice but upon receiving the bill, we were first told it could not be split then the server proceeded to split it by the two tables we were seated at. After reviewing the bill several times, we were overcharged for items that were not served to us. We tried to explain this to the server, but he insisted that they were served so we asked to speak with the manager. I spoke with the manager, Yasmin and explained that there were items on the second receipt that no one ordered/received, and she proceeded to tell me that there was nothing she could do because she “checked our tables after food was served” which she did not. She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to “Go back and collect whatever cash and cards to take care of the bill” before referring to us, an entire group of Black people as, “you people”, and would not listen to what my friend and I were saying to her. On top of that when my friend told her, it was rude to speak to us that way she said, and I quote “she can speak however because her husband is a person of color”. I would not recommend going to this establishment unless you are in desperate need of food and Yasmin, the manager, deserves to be fired immediately. Very thankful our birthday was not ruined because of this.
Food was subpar, tasted like something you would get from a convenient store. Service was not good.
It’s the best restaurant and club I have ever seen in my life. Highly recommended
Black security guard with curly dreads at the door charges people to get into the door. Sometimes it’s $10 sometimes it’s $20, depending on how he feels that day. The money goes to his personal cashapp & other security guards don’t make people pay which means he’s probably keeping all the money himself. The music is different every weekend. Some Saturdays they play hip hop and pop music and others they play all Latina. Never know which one you’ll get. It’s always a decent amount of people tho either way.I got 2 shots of Tito’s and my total was $37…this whole establishment seems fishy and the “bartenders”were in peoples sections taking shots rather than attending to people at the bar…There are definitely better clubs in dc.
I just paid $55 for 2 margaritas. Never goin back here again.
Me and my coworker were so excited to try this place and maybe recommend it to our other coworkers. Unfortunately they had rats and at the end of my meal said they couldn’t take my boa debit card but could take my cash app which is connected to the exact same bank. Won’t be seeing me or ANY of my coworkers again! The server was cute but the food was subpar and rats.. Girl? Be forreal
Food was ok, service was terrible. We had to ask for napkins at least 5 times from 2 separate waiters for them to be brought to us. Bugs and debris from the tree were constantly falling on our food/drinks. Upon asking for the check he insisted that all items were on one check and he couldn’t split it. They failed to mention that upon arriving but only mentioned the 20% gratuity. Service was terrible. Do not recommend & is my least favorite sushi spot in DC since I’ve arrived.
The ambience is the only real plus to this place. Food was fine but nowhere near its price point; the bao buns have pasty taste and texture. The service is basically nonexistent and 100% theres an undercurrent of racism to it. Also, we ordered something and were mysteriously given a different, more expensive option (and ik we were INCREDIBLY clear about our option.) They also attempted to give us higher prices for things than what was listed on the menu, without any real/substantive reasons.Better sushi and drink places literally anywhere in the city!
Tokyo was a great place to eat out in dc! The service was great. The food & environment was amazing . 10/10 recommended
Their social media brought me here, great ambiance and food. Quickly becoming one of my favorite spots.
The food ...my gosh was it good. Lets get into the vibe. Such a nice ambiance and you have the option to sit outside on the walkway, or under the pavilion where the wicker/swing seats are. We did both and learned that we preferred outside on the walkway. Now back to the food! We ordered the rock shrimp, Karage fried chicken (all on starter menu), and a bowl of rice. So tasty, fresh, and hot. The woman who served us was so accommodating and was honest about what we may or may not eat (raw or cooked food). Lastly, the drink was a nice touch. It was a great experience.
Was an amazing environment when I went, food was great and the customer service was amazing as well, definitely will be going back again
I feel like the security here are really rude. I was surprised when I came in for the nightclub and had my guestlist code and name ready which is free before 11:30pm, to the bouncer in front. We all showed our IDs to one guy, then the guy who took the payments didnt understand we were already on the guestlist so he said to get our 8 people first. We kept repeating that we had our group and counted out our people for him, and had to show our IDs again. As a girl, I held my other friends hand to not lose her going inside but the guys in our group just filed in behind.Somehow, they stopped our group at 6 people and let two other people who PAID to get in instead. The other two guys were told there was nothing they could do even though we counted and pointed at them and also our friend stayed behind to say they were with us. They knew everyone in our group which proved we were in the same party, and I even had a guestlist group put down for 9 people, so at least one guy should have been let in without telling him he had to pay. Our friend ended up paying for both of them which was really surprising because this was a really simple mistake on their part that they refused to want to listen to us explain. It wasnt something that is out of their hands to deal with. Ive never really had this kind of experience before and met people this purposeful to just be mean for no reason, maybe because it wasnt just only girls like my group normally is.The bathroom security was also a little rude, also surprising because I was trying to ask where the bathroom was and he kept shrugging at me without answering, and once my friend asked for me where the start of the line was, he finally at least waved to the back. One note is that their promo post said ladies open bar from 10-11:30 which is where I registered for the guestlist and the reason we came instead of our usual ladies open bar club, but when I asked the bartender she shook her head no. So Im not sure if this was incorrect info or they felt like it was too close to the end of open bar hours.
I have a great time I go … Friday and Saturday be a great party’s
Quality sushi and service in the heart of Dupont Circle, a very well priced happy hour every day, really a hidden gem!
Food is tasty , great service and ambiance all together in the middle of DuPont circle100% recommend
I usually go here for their night life. Their music is probably the best mix on the whole block. Unfortunately last time I went my guy friend tried getting on the pole (he takes classes), he wasn’t allowed to. the bouncer outside banged on the glass and told him to get off. Love that y’all are more supportive during pride month but I would love to see that energy all year round.
Food was delicious, everyone was so nice. Service was fast. Great atmosphere and they have fun bouncing hanging egg swings.
It’s a such a rarity to me to write a review but I was so upset yesterday. I ordered dinner grilled salmon, it came out completely uncooked, like row fish. I asked to recooked it, so they brought it back like a leftover, literally alone without sides, on a little side plate, over cooked, tasted horrible, oily eww like they don’t care. No one even stopped by say sorry or something. The waitress asked how is it now, on what I answered that I am not impressed the food at all, on what she did not even react. They added 20 percent’s gratuity.I will never come back.Food was bad, service is bad too,I am surprise why even manager don’t care when ppl send food back to the kitchen??? Why no one even stop by my table and asked ?
Came here on a causal night out with friends! Had some really good food at the restaurant! Very cute and fun atmosphere after dinner a worker there Pancho invited us to stay for the club later that night! and it was a great time super fun ! great workers ! super friendly bartenders, Camila made sure our drinks came out quickly and delicious! Will definitely be going back!
So I cant wait to share my wonderful experience in this restaurant. This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Me and my sister is just here in DC for oat taking for Filipino dual citizenship so that night we’re celebrating. Were looking some safe place to drink. Its our First time in Tokyo Pearl and YOU have to go! It’s the cutest little spot and the atmosphere is chill and cool, We just came here to have drinks and because of the cozy place and hospitable host and the inviting atmosphere me and my sister were hooked, Ana the server is very friendly we stablished connection right away! We had so much fun and we enjoyed the little chat with Ana little that i know i would discover how amazing their service and they go beyond! That night we left the restaurant full of energy and happiness , that night i forgot my wallet! With everything in it! And to know that its our last night and were going back to Florida. It’s too late when I discovered I lost it i got so worried and after trying to connect with them on the phone i made a connection to them we wrote the email and they responded quickly yes they had my wallet and very willing to send it back. Ana the server go beyond that she even made an effort to send message to my fb messenger telling i left my wallet and they have it safe. I am so happy and relieved today i receive it! The service we received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel not only welcomed but family and most important they gave us an amazing experience. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority.Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in (WDC). The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. Highly recommend!
I went to this sushi place last year during the summer and the place was fine, but I recently went with my group of friends, and we had a horrible experience. We had to wait 50 minutes to get our drinks and waited and hour and a half to get our food. The sushi was good, Im not going to say it was bad just because the service was horrible. However, our waitress was taking shots with customers at a nearby table, and never came by our table to check on us or ask if we wanteddrinks. See attached for the video of her taking shots. I found this place completely un professional, and during our time here we saw many other people get up and leave because they were seated and the waitress never came to give them a menu or take their orders. As we were wrapping up and paying our waitress never apologized for the horrible/slow service. Looks like something shady is going on at this restaurant / club.
Whoever the dj was on may 20th, 2023, *chefs kiss* great variety of early 2000’s throwbacks, spanish music, and also more recent songs. according to my friends the women bartenders made delicious drinks and women were being given free drinks. good amount of people but definitely not overcrowded. music was rlly loud and the lights were rlly cool
Most definitely the worst Bar experience! I would not recommend this place to anyone, the staff are rude and discriminates! The hell this place is still open?!!! To the owners of this place, please teach your staff customer service!!! (The securities, bouncers, down to the Bar tenders on the night of 12/9/23)
We were here a couple of weeks ago. At that time they were waiting on their liquor license and told us that we could only order off the food menu. After 30 minutes of waiting, the waitress snapped at us when he asked about our food. She was completely out of line and unprofessional. We promptly stood up and left the place. This was probably our worst dining experience in DC.
The times I’ve been here I’ve had a BLAST. Staff is super sweet and very attentive. I love their ladies nights! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something fun to do in the city.
Food, drinks & customer service was amazing. Would highly recommend
The bar itself was cool and had a lot of people inside and good music. But we went in because we were told girls get free drinks until 12 and so my friends and I ordered but she said she still needed my card. I gave it because I figured there was some sort of service fee butttt it was 40 bucks. Just felt like a scam.
This place is so cute. I went on a Sunday night and it was near empty so we got to sit in the handing egg chairs which were comfy and didnt swing much (which was ideal since we were eating). Our host/server was Yasmine was so nice and chatted with us a bit since it wasnt busy. They did not have the frozen drinks since their machine was broken, but she gave us the frozen drink special on Yuzu margaritas instead (pretty tasty w/reasonable liquor content). The prices were good and the food was flavorful. Yasmine told us they have $7 happy hour, so we will be back for that (hopefully when the frozen drinks are back). They do have a 20% gratutity included, but since they informed us when the check came and the service was good I did not mind.
Tokyo Peal is a very live place To party the vibe is good and food is great
Tokyo Pearl is one of THE best night clubs in D.C! . The staff is very friendly and accommodating, not to mention the great variety of music. I have visited 5 times now with friends and they never disappoint. 10/10 recommend
This place is absolutely ridiculous to the point that I’m considering a call to the better business bureau. The whole experience was wack and ultimately a scam. We initially waited to be seated but no one ever acknowledged us so we went to the bar for quick drink instead. We waited at the bar for 15 minutes before someone said a word to us. We should have left at that point….Eventually me and my friend ordered a total of 4 shots of tequila and our check came to 101.40. We ordered Milagro tequila so it wasn’t a crazy expensive tequila. They charged us 20 dollars per shot and added a 20% gratuity. Think about that for a sec. We paid the terrible bar tender 20 ish dollars to pour a total of 4 shots. That’s a scam.
Came on a dead friday night around 10 to an amateur comedy show. Enjoyed some cocktails, but after the show no one was there except for old people on the dance floor. Left after the DJ put on a pre-made youtube playlist of house music. I wont be back for the club.
So sad because this place has potential to be so nice but they are severely understaffed. We went for happy hour, the food is sub par and the one drink I had was nothing to rave about. Really disappointing the outside is decorated so nicely but thats about it. The staff they do have are working hard but they need more people hope this place gets it together because they have potential.
The only thing good about eating here were the fun swinging chairs. The food was beyond average and extremely overpriced. They also enforce a 20% tip, so be aware of that. Do not recommend. Will not return.
Service was extremely slow. Food was overpriced and mediocre. The bathrooms were filthy. About an inch of standing water on the entire floor. Repulsive. I’ve been to outdoor music festivals with cleaner restrooms. It tasted like the Bao buns were microwaved because they were tough and chewy. Others in my party ordered soup and dumplings and no one liked their food. I thought the sushi was fine - but not worth the price. It was too salty. Would not go here again.
I went to the restaurant on a Friday night we were not greeted or acknowledged…we stood there while all the employees ignored us saying excuse me walking past us until 20 minutes we asked the manager how much longer (we were the only people waiting)Her attitude of the night began there. After we finally got seated we waited over 45 mins for our food & it was not even a busy night in my opinion but maybe because the manager was taking shots with other tables. The prices are up there you get 6 sushi rolls for $18 a glass of wine is almost $10 just to be waiting for your 6 rolls for over a hour is ridiculous. After we were done eating we proceeded to get the bill & noticed that there was a 20% gratuity added onto our bill which we did not think she deserved so we addressed this issue with the manager Yasmin.. she gave us an attitude asking why do we want to remove it this is the way that they do things here etc just super unprofessional & rude.I guess she wasn’t pleased that we gave her the same energy so she she walked off & said she doesn’t need to listen to us even though she clearly asked why we wanted it removed maybe she didn’t want to hear our criticism. I do agree with her telling us we should have left from the beginning! This place doesn’t deserve anyones hard worked money!!!!Treat your customers with respect & provide good service & you could have gotten more than 20% gratuity! The food was not the worse but the overall experience of the restaurant was horrible wouldn’t recommend or go back there’s so many good sushi bars in DC!
*********************************************************Read before ordering in this restaurant*********************************************************The wait was absurdly long even though there were only few people during our stay. In addition to the long wait, the hosts attitude is disturbingly negative. Most importantly, the food is outrageously terrible and especially with the price of the food. The size and portion of the sushi is not even on par with a regular average sushi. The food portion size will not even fill your kids teeth gap. Anything that relates to tuna, order with your own risk, because it does not seem like it is a legit tuna. It was a horrible experience and a waste of time. I rarely find food disgusting and seldom complain about bad food. However, the food is utterly disappointing. I suggest people look somewhere else to eat. My fiancée and I should have listened to many negative reviews from others. The place is very sketchy. BTW doesnt matter how many people are in your party, they will automatically add the 20% of gratuity without any choice of the matter and without notification that it got included to the total price. After reading many reviews it is quite apparent that we are not the only victim.MINIMAL SERVICE, MAXIMUM ATTITUDE
If you want to have fun in DC on the weekends, Tokyo Pearl is the place to go! Trendy vibes inside (love the light show on the roof, SO COOL) and great drinks and djs! During the day they have happy hour specials so be sure to check them out ! :)
Awesome venue. We had a private party here and it was a great time. Drinks are great, bartenders are nice, music is great, and the light and sound system in the main room is the best in DC. 10/10 recommend.
There is a 20% forced gratuity automatically added to your bill that is NOT stated anywhere on the menu or by the server. Extremely poor service and not deserving of 20%. I almost didnt want to even tip off of the service we did get. Only had someone take our order and drop our food off. Not even water refills or asked if we wanted anything else or how the food was or anything. Completely ignored for an hour.
So much fun to go for dancing, drinks, and hookah!!The DJ is always mixing up something fresh, and the bartenders will treat you right! Make sure to tip them well, bring your friends, and have a great time. This place has awesome artwork throughout! Enjoy!!!
I love this bar great music great food staff is amazing and I always feel safe. The Hookahs are really good and affordable and the back patio area is beautiful! If you want a great experience when you come to DuPont circle come to Tokyo .
Went with a few friends the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how cute and aesthetic the place was. Our waitress Genesis was very helpful and honest at recommending some great choices from the menu. Definitely plan on going back soon!
Great bar and after hours club. Drinks are delicious. I met one bartender named Anthony and whoever management is at this club needs to give him a raise. He is so good at his job its unbelievable. Most bartenders take hours to get to you, then by the time when they get to, make your drink, it takes them hours to get you the bill. Anthony was speedy, quick, and accurate. By the time someone gets to the bar and pays their bill, it took less then 5 minutes for all of that to get done with anthony. Most bars you may need to wait 20 minutes for this whole process. Only thing I would wish for is more security, tables are regularly left open and go unchecked.
Food was below average. Bao was microwaved. Drinks were way overpriced. Service was extremely slow. But what sets this place apart was how absolutely disgusting the bathrooms were. Grosser than any porta potties Ive seen in a packed public event. There was standing water and soggy toilet paper on the ground. Empty drinks and used straws were IN the sink. Granted, they were doing a Christmas pub crawl event, but thats not excuse for making restaurant patrons use an absolutely disgusting bathroom.
In what world does a double vodka red bull cost $38? I guess this mediocre club!! Not much fun either to be honest. The only upside was the cool/good DJ that they had preforming Saturday dec 18. Don’t waste your time here and just go Nextdoor to the Madhatter. Way more dancing/fun and the drinks are reasonably priced for a downtown bar.
Cool vibes nice music. Security is very professional and respectful.
Cool spot but please fix the restroom situation
Im sure the sushi section is good, but the bartender in the lounge section massively overcharged for drinks on top of my cash tip. Will not be returning here. Too bad really, it has a great atmosphere, but I think scamming customers is going to negatively impact the business.
Food was slightly below average and very overpriced. Service was basically nonexistent and when we asked for the check we were basically told no. I would go somewhere else.
First time going this past weekend and I was very pleased with the atmosphere and especially the patio. Looking forward to coming back and explore the rest of their menu 😉!
Food drinks and night life is amazing definitely recommend it .
I had their sushi last sunday and it was delicious! on sundays classic rolls are $8, definitely take advantage of this
Neon spicy tuna and wasabi mush. Unripe avocado. They automatically add 20% gratuity without saying anything. Bartender was nice and the happy hour deal was cheap but so was the food quality.
Skip it. Sushi is fine, but service is abysmal. And they know it too, that’s why they add auto gratuity without letting you know (not listed on menus as required). Also their liquor license is in limbo, but they don’t tell you they can’t serve alcohol until you already get there.
My friends and I just left the venue. My group came in before their kitchen closed. I asked the waiter if we could order food and he said yes. Two of us ordered food and the manager stopped him from taking the rest of us. We all were planning to eat dinner so we both asked for a refund and were refused. I’m extremely disappointed by their customer service and will not return.
Management is reckless. Very rude and disrespectful. I would never come back nor recommend. The service was very poor and they charged me for a service I did not receive.
Theres definitely better sushi in our area. The only thing saving this place is the cute decor they have. My boyfriend and I sat in the whicker chairs outside. Their pricing is very weird. For example: you must get 2 pieces of nigiri but they are priced individually on the menu. When you think you are getting 2 pieces for $6, you are actually getting 2 pieces for $12. I just felt that, for the price, we could go somewhere else. Oh and there is an automatic 20% gratuity added on that we were never told about.
Great sushi place! Rainbow roll is amazing! Ask to add salmon to their California roll, you’ll get really good tasting roll. And sake my husband had tasted so good. I also had a cocktail with champagne and vodka tastes like mimosa, very nice.
Had a great time at their day party with Adobo, vibes were high and the ambiance was nice. Definitely coming back for whatever they host next.
Extremely rude and unprofessional security, I was going to the bathroom and they burst through the door, held me by my hands and dragged me out just because I did not know there was a line, and when I was trying to explain and calm them down he was yelling at me and being very unreasonable after I apologized. STILL gave me an attitude. Sad to say this is my first, and DEFINITELY my last time there
We used to love Tokyo and go there every weekend, but now for some reason they’re charging you for entrance. The security stays on the door is charging, and when you get in people say that you don’t need to pay for it. Frustrated with the situation. But it is a nice place.
Went there and had the best time with my family and will be back again for sure. Lovely place, staff was very nice, and food was amazing. I highly reccomend!
Overpriced! The sushi roll was very small, overpriced and not very good.it took longer to order the food than eating it. The service is good and the place is cute but not worth the price. There’s also a 20% gratitude automatically included.
My experience was the best because my waitress; ask for Emily !! It was my first time coming out since 2020 and She was so attentive, kind and FAST! I really enjoyed my small dining experience.
Great service every time! The bouncers are friendly and it’s always a good night when we’re there. Shout out to poncho for always giving us amazing service!
We made a reservation for 8:00 but ended up having to wait 45 minutes and ended up giving up and leaving. The entire time we were waiting the staff rudely brushed us off and ignored us when we tried to ask when our table would be ready.
The manager is racist, the servers were rude, and the food was over priced and mid. Will not be going back and do not encourage anyone else to go.
This spot is really nice. Drinks were good and loved the hospitality. Raven was very friendly and energetic. Make sure to ask for her if you want to get good drinks
Zeus is the worst security ever!!! Big whites guy!
Never been there for food but its a good location for day party events. Doesnt feel too crowded even when its packed and its a nice vibe.
Emily was amazing! So polite, attentive, friendly. We had an amazing happy hour & will be back for more fun! She was so sweet & we felt it was a COVID-19 friendly happy hour. Thank you Emily!
Wouldn’t recommend coming here to dance at night - staff do not prioritize patron safety. Last time I was there the DJ followed me into the bathroom. Another person in attendence told the staff what happened that night and when I reached out later to let them know their venue is unsafe they just didn’t answer me
Emily was the sweetest! She took care of us and made my first happy hour here special! Shoutout to her! I will definitely be back! I felt safe as well ☺️
I really enjoyed my visit to Tokyo Pearl! Loved the food, cocktails and service. Their lounge is also a vibe! Will def be back.
I love the DuPont Circle area and I decided to pop into Tokyo Pearl. Great patio area and sushi, wonderful staff, and the bartender, Raven, was very energetic and served great drinks. Would definitely be back again!
Amazing sushi! Cute place, with great service and food. A bonus is the great parties they have as well! Definitely a fun time out!
Multiple young women I know have been drugged/roofied at the nightclub. avoid at all costs.
Went out Saturday night and had the best time! The music was energizing and I danced the night away. Went back for brunch and felt it was the best choice after fun night out. It was exactly what I needed after a stressful week. Thank you!
I went for lunch and had the bento. I really wanted to like this place since its virtually impossible to find a bento box in Dupont for $10, but I wasnt super impressed with what I received. The quality wasnt super high, the ingredients didnt seem fresh, and the flavors werent something Id come back for.
We were lucky to find this gem! Nightlife, excellent DJ and free drinks for the ladies until 12 on Friday … bouncer was cool and invited us in!
Absolutely horrible service. One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Staff was rude and extremely slow. Ordered a drink and they brought out the wrong drink and claimed it was correct and still charged us for it. The sashimi APPETIZER took 45 mins to come out. Do not come here. HORRIBLE
I had dinner at the restaurant to celebrate my birthday , we were served quickly and everything was good. Food, drinks everything about this place is magnificent.
Amazing customer service and amazing food! The scenery is so beautiful! Would definitely recommend this place to everyone I know!!! Keep it up Tokyo Pearl!!
Great shushi. The night club aspect is a blast of course but shoe up early, sit on the newly renovated patio and enjoy shushi with wine or sake. You wont regret it.
Great club, good music, great energy and not aggressive people. Staff are great too. Only draw back is the drinks suck.
If you have the opportunity to visit this venue for weekday happy hour say yes every time! By far best value for your wallet and quality experience
I went during happy hour recently. The food was ok. Nothing to rave about. The looks of the restaurant interested me more than the food. Def would not pay full price for the food, especially since I am sick because of what I ate.
Came here because the photos looked cool & thought it’d be an experience but it’s really not all that guys lol. The service was really good but the food was just ok & the presentation of the food isn’t as pretty as in the photos.
Amazing food! Great environment and a place to definitely take photos at. If you haven’t checked it out yet I would definitely recommend you do so 💯
Expensive, small portions, inauthentic, food sucked. Our sushi was tiny and tasted stale. The bao were nothing like real baos and were weird. Avoid.
The bartenders were super rude and the place wasnt even packed with a whopping 5 people in total. Service is seriously lacking and they didnt have 4 items in the already small menu ... management seems to be a joke at this place
Place is OK. Food is all right. Not cool to include 20% tip to the bill for a table of 2. Service was very inexperienced and confused at times.
I love this place, went last night and it was a total vibe. Staff and food were amazing!!
Friends have held private parties here and it is definitely a good environment good bartenders would recommend
Emily was the best, she was so lit, even though she ain’t drink with us. She had great vibes all around. Her eyes clinkled
Emily was an amazing host!!! Drinks were great! I would definitely come again and recommend to all friends
The service was extremely slow and food is extremely overpriced! For an order of shumai we only got 3 dumplings and they charged over $10, plus they automatically charged tip, not worth it!
I dont know if the food is good or not but they really need to work in how to take care of costumers ,my wife and i we stop to get some sushi ,when the security guy told us ,WE DO NOT TAKE MORE SIT DOWN COSTUMERS BECAUSE OF THE TIME, BUT YOU CAN ASK THE WAITRESS ,AT THE MOMENT WE ASK THE WAITRESS IF THEY WERE SITTING MORE COSTUMERS ,I SAW THE SECURITY GUY TALKING WITH ANOTHER 2 COSTUMERS ,SO WAITRESS TOLD US NO MORE ,SO WE LEFT ,WHEN WE WERE LEAVING WE SAW THE SECURITY GUY LET THIS COUPLE GO SIT DOWN ,AND I ASK ,SORRY YOU JUST TOLD ME NO MORE SITTING DO THEY HAVE A RESERVATION????????? AND OFCOURE THEY PLAY STUPID ,IF I CAN LEAVE 0 START I WILL,HONESTLY I WILL NOT RECOMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL ,THEY DO NOT HAVE A GOOD COSTUMER SERVICES . ,.
Outstanding variety of some of the best food, and if you’re looking for a night of fun ask for Giancarlo and he will set you up.
Great good and even better service. Our server’s name was Genesis Rivera and she was AMAZING!! Definitely coming back!!
We trying to go inside but the security asked us for $10 but we saw that he let people inside without ask them for money
The worst customer service EVER, the staff isn’t welcoming at all, and the bar team members charge you whatever they feel you should pay for a drink….. Horrible experience.
This place was too packed I hear its not always like this but my experience was horrible
$44 for doubke casamigosAutomatic 20% gratuity for 2 pplRip off. Scam.
I loved coming here a couple weeks ago!! The set up is so cute
Best Bar ive been to in DC! Mainly because of the staff! Raven at the bar was great and a joy to be around!
Good lord drinks should not cost this much I dont care if its the city
Been coming here for years, always a fun spot to grab a drink on the weekends! Def recommend!
What great place and the service is great. Raven was so customer oriented and made great drinks. I cant wait to come back.
Love Tokyo! The esthetic is super unique & the sushi is AMAZING not to mention their nighttime events ! 1 of a kind !
Really tasty sushi, very helpful staff, though perhaps a bit loud for us olds.
Great bar with great sushi! Our bartender Raven was great and energetic! Will definitely be back soon!
Amazing sushi and amazin coctails one of the best clubs in dc definitely worth a visit!
Lounge by day club by night. Not bad not bad at all. They handed everyone light sticks, so that was pretty lit.
Amazing venue and staff! Highly recommend. 10/10
This place is amazing ! Especially my waitress Jada; very attentive and professional. Can’t wait to go back !
Emily was a great host. The food was amazing and I enjoyed my time!
Had a fantastic time. Music was great. The staff was incredible. Definitely will be back.
Great ambience, so much to offer! definitely a place to check out !
The DJ was awesome, but the space is so small. Theres also a much younger crowd.
Hands down one of the best environments and experiences in the city! Highly recommend!
We were seated, given water, then no one came to take our order ... so we left.
Always a good time at Tokyo
They charged my card $74 on new year’s and I wasn’t even there.
The place has a cool vibe but its a little too small
My fav spot on Connecticut Ave!!!I go every Saturday faithfully!!!
Terrible service very rude waiters. they can’t take orders correctly smh. don’t recommend to no one
Emily and Genesis have shown my large party the best service I’ve ever gotten at a restaurant. Go to TP!!!!!
Give it a shot its new and the Bento box is great for lunch or light dinner. Good little HH menu too
Extremely poor experience with staff. They lost my card for two hours and had an attitude after!! Will never return. Don’t go here even if this is your only option.
Sweet dance club w Sushi. Parking was DC standard, so arrive early.
Food was amazing; love the tempura. Service was great. Highly recommend
Awesome experience hosting an event for my club!
I have been here twice and I can definitely say its worth the price. Its pretty good!
Such a cute place. Dj was good and the food was so good.
Great spot for chill vibes, trendy music and pleasant bar tenders...the decor is wonderful!
Just stopped in for a drink, it was pretty quiet. Lots of neon, I can imagine this place being packed on weekends
Got scammed, 4 shots for $70
Beautiful sentimental place for couples, small food portions.
Great vibes, the aesthetic reminds me of the bar from Cyberpunk.
ALWAYS A GOOD TIME! Especially when @ADOBODMV takes over 🤌🏻
The music is good. But the bartender is so rude.
Best Place On Earth! Will Be Returning For Sure!
Always good service when I go with my friends!
LOKERA FRIDAYS FOR PERREO INTENSO, you heard it here first ;)
Worst cocktails I’ve had in dc. Straight sugar. Avoid.
Terrible service with automatic gratuity. Wouldnt go back.
