Instead of looking at this spa as voted best of New Haven, and reading the sites reviews, I should’ve just came to google… So I spent close to $300 for a couples massage, prenatal for me and included back mud wrap as a surprise for my man……… Mediocre. BOTH. My man told me that he barely felt like he was even touched and same for me. I asked the lady to apply a little more pressure and she told me “ Not too much” !!! Like what?! I’m pregnant and I have aches in my back and side that really needed to be rubbed out.. I worked all week on top of having children already so I was really looking forward to this but it was definitely a disappointment.. and this was also a gift for my man which was disappointing because he didn’t enjoy it. We both agreed that we were better off just going to an Asian owned spa because at least they applied pressure..Literally like these other reviews stated- We felt as if we were getting petted on.. This was literally a waste of my money and I definitely wouldn’t recommend to anyone that actually wants to be relaxed and not feel as if they’re paying for a person to just touch them

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this spa. My daughter and I came to redeem a gift card purchased by my husband for a mother-daughter spa day. Both gift certificates clearly stated in all capital letters (presumably written by the staff member who sold them to him), A DAY OF RETREAT, TAXES & TIP INCLUDED. This package includes a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure.My daughters massage and facial were satisfactory, but my massage was extremely light and felt more like being pet. There was no open communication; no one asked about any problem areas or issues, which I have experienced at other spas in the past. Additionally, the carpet in the massage room was dirty, which was off-putting as I stared through the face hole during the massage.Regarding the nail services, both the manicure and pedicure were messy, with polish all over the cuticles. I ended up having to get my nails and toes repolished at another salon later that same day.At checkout, despite presenting two gift certificates and stating we should be all set, my daughter was unexpectedly told there was a balance of $8 & that any gratuity would also not be included. Upon farther questioning she was told that the gift card must’ve been old & that the prices had gone up since purchase. Confused, she paid the remaining amount and tipped everyone before informing me as we were walking to the car. I immediately returned to clarify that these gift certificates were for specific services, not a dollar amount, and should have covered everything as stated. My husband is a generous tipper, and I estimate these gift cards totaled over $600+ in services, although there was no dollar amount specified on them.I am extremely disgusted knowing that we were made to pay more on something that was a gift. I was told by the man at the front desk the gift card must be old and that the prices had gone up and there wasn’t anything they could do. The gift card was given for Christmas, it was not that old and that should’ve been clearly communicated on the phone when the appointments were madebecause I had explicitly stated I had a gift card I wanted to use for day of retreat. He LOOKED UP the gift card and confirmed what services they were for and booked my appt. That would’ve been the appropriate time to say that the prices had been raised and that there would be balance, not after all services were completed.Overall, I was deeply disappointed by the lack of clarity, professionalism, and cleanliness at this spa. After reading reviews I see this is a common theme at this establishment. I expected a relaxing experience based on the gift certificates promises, but unfortunately, this was not the case. I would not recommend this spa to anyone seeking a pleasant and organized spa day.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!! Cheerfully giving a 5 stars rating! After numerous visits here now, I can positively and confidently say the services here are not only superior and wide in scope, but even more so in todays world, reasonably priced! GEM on the Branford River for sure!! Upon every visit I had been greeted by all Staff, not only by name, but as if I walked into a home away from home. Where I love to go to regroup and recenter. I have never had to request any individual technician if I was uncertain who would fit me best for any specific services, as the spa is managed so well. They are genuinely devoted to likings and preferences without having to ask, which always makes for a simple arrangement of appointments. Another amazing feature is the location and parking ease. My favorite weekly visit is the WELLNESS POD packages. Last minute, I can call and ask if there is an opening, and I am quickly in a blissful heaven. It is overall about a 45-minute process and really has a way of relaxing you to the max in that short time. Wonderful hot clean shower with all my needs readily accessible to help myself to with ease. BONUS!!! …. The weight management benefits have absolutely been amazing if you create a regimen for yourself. Once a month I love to add in the ionic foot detox and spa pedicure along with the WELLNESS POD. It is great little mini staycation for a busy mom, and I sure do appreciate the benefits this facility adds to my overall wellness. The facials and massages are absolutely impressive every time. The lead technician has such a vast knowledge of the Esthetics industry and overall wellness and balance for the mind, body, and soul. I must say it is remarkable! Another slice of heaven…. there is a SAUNA that you can either book an appointment to use for extended time, or, for only a few dollars I can add the use of it to any service I am already having. Great and inexpensive treat I love to use to fill any appt gaps or just a quick recenter all by itself. For my fellow outdoors lovers, it is a joy to hike the close by supply pond or town center, then sneak away to Branford River Resort and Spa to relax my muscles and shower off any stress in paradise.

I had on some false nails, and they were not equipped to take them off. Being that one of the nails was broken and all of the nails were in need of a fill (badly!) she decided to cut/file the rest of my nails down to match the broken one, then for a fill, she decided to do the outdated way of doing extensions. She put this glue on them, and then added what I believe was acrylic powder onto them. Even with 3 coats, it was not a proper fill to match the already existing nails. Then the shellac was placed over them, but it flooded the nail too much so when it bonded, it was not a smooth finish. I could have ignored all of it, but the fact that she charged me $25 on top of the $360 European package I pre-paid for, and tax, AND a 10% covid fee...i just looked down at my nails like...yeah no not ok. I ended up walking out the door paying an extra $90.I ordered the European package for my birthday, and had my mom tag along. It was wonderful! The massage was great, so relaxing I had trouble getting up. The hydrotherapy bath was my favorite!! The bubbles the relaxation, and the mud wrap before it...Im buying me a weighted blanket because if it. And the facial!! I really REALLY enjoyed myself! I truly wish I had taken off my tips prior to the appointment. 🥴

Only giving it 2 stars because my company at least liked their massage therapist (unfortunately my massage felt more like I was being pet)... but it was the most stressful spa experience from the moment I got there. I was rushed to get changed even though me and my company ended up sitting and waiting for 10 minutes to get our services. We drove an hour to get there and they suggest getting there 10 minutes before, but we got there like maybe 3 minutes before the appointment time (saying this to state we weren’t even late) and yet after changing we all sat in our robes and waited for them. I could tell the owner was annoyed that I took too “long” to change, because my group was assigned specific people and an order of treatments, and so my sister ended up being given my spot (even though as I said I wasn’t even late because my sister and I both ended up waiting around ) and this switching the of ordered of things ruined the entire day. Somehow it ended with the person who was assigned to do my facial having to also do my sister’s nails at the same exact time. So this woman was rushing in and out of the facial room and nail room every few minutes and I did not get the full experience. I don’t blame the esthetician, clearly her boss screwed her over too but still I should not have had that happen to me on my birthday and this place is too expensive to be screwed over like that. So what annoyed me the most was the owner was also the one doing my nails and pedicures and she was such a micro manger. she kept getting up from working on me to step in and do other peoples jobs. Like there was a perfectly capable man at the front desk but she didn’t like how he tied a ribbon on a gift certificate so she stopped my pedicure to do so or to talk to walk ins or book appointments. Tip, if you’re going to run a spa you can’t be stressing your guests out. I’m stressed enough with college and work, I went there to get relaxed.

My experience here never falls short. Relaxing atmosphere, highly professional staff, with many services including pedicures, facials, microblading, lashes, waxing, and spray tans. I recommend them for all your pampering needs.

I’ve been coming to see Doreen for 10 years at Branford River Resort and am always so happy with all my pampering services. The compression therapy is now my new favorite wellness treatment! My go to spa for relaxing!

Went for a couples massage, I purchasedthe package with roses, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The massage was great and the champagne and fruit was served afterwards in a little private room (very romantic setting). Would definitely recommend!

First I will say if your significant other is thoughtful enough to realize the pain it is to have to draw on your own eyebrows daily and so he buys you an appointment to have your brows done he is a keeper! Second, Doreen did an amazing job on my brows and I actually cried a bit later.If you want to have a fantastic massage in a super clean environment then this is the place to go. So relaxing and the staff is so cautious during these hard times. I go once a month for a monthly massage and I tell you I wish I could go more often because I leave there feeling great. My favorite masseuse is Debra, extremely sweet and great at her job!

Super friendly easy to talk to staff and very clean . Would highly recommend this spa to anyone looking for a relaxing , peaceful day . Their special touches are an added bonus . Debra even stayed longer to add on a service we didn’t book. She even had patience of a saint to touch up my smudged nails while she was trying to end her day . We will definitely be back . I have been a client for 9 years having facials to control my rosacea. At my first appointment, Doreen told me that my condition can be managed and kept under control. At that point, my skin was red and had frequent breakouts characteristic of the condition. Doreen has done a wonderful job keeping my skin looking great and now people have no idea that I have rosacea!

Unbelievably wonderful experience here! The ambiance was outstanding andfelaxing. Debra was THE BEST! She did my facial and pedicure. She was gentle, easy to talk to and very pleasant. There were 3 of us and Doreen the office manager did a lovely job of coordinating the different services we all had. If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would!

Very bad experience. We had an appointment for 2pm, arrived on time and were rescheduled without our knowledge to 3pm. There is no privacy for changing into robes, we were told to change in the public hallway upstairs. The other people in our party had 2 pedicures which somehow took TWO HOURS to do and the parafin wax used was so hot both people had their feet burned. The staff seemed confused and did not communicate with us throughout the process. They also double charged us, once online then again in person. Do not recommend.

I wanted to update my five star review on Branford River Resort and Spa. This is a comforting, private, respectful and healing spa. I have had massages, lymphatic work, waxing, mani/pedi, spa days, hair color and massage and 5 stars always. Oh and my brows come out really natural and pretty, Doreen is wonderful.

I had an awesome experience here getting facials before my wedding! I had never gotten a facial before, and it was pretty incredible. I tried several different services they offer, following their advice, and I really enjoyed better skin for that period of time. Plus, they were consistently nice and friendly, and the atmosphere there is very calming and beautiful. Now that I’ve moved to another state, I miss this place!

This is the best combination of friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable and skilled staff. Their advice is helpful and I leave my facials relaxed and pampered. I recently convinced my husband ( not a spa guy) to try a pedicure there and he is now comfortable enough to schedule them monthly. Try it !I wanted to update my review because I just tried their new Wellness Pod. You have to try this! It was simply amazing. Relaxing , soothing and I didn’t get antsy at all ( which is unusual for me if I have to be still for more than about 10 minutes)Highly recommend it!

This is my 2nd time here...only because we live nearly an hour away. I have had plenty of massages in my life, and Debra is by far the best therapist Ive ever had. Not only that, this place is great from start to finish. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. My husband and I came for a couples massage and back treatment and could not have asked for a more amazing experience and place to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you! We will definitely be back.

Had my makeup done for some photos my husband and I were about to take. My appointment was scheduled for 11:30. The makeup application did NOT start until 12:10. I get it. It’s a Saturday. It’s busy. But- I did have an appointment. My makeup came out wonderful. I’m not disappointed in that sense. The is not the first time I’ve had services done here. The manager kept telling the woman doing my makeup that her next client was there. I felt the pressure. & it was not fair to me. I did however receive a 20% coupon for my next visit. Just think they need to be a bit more organized. But overall. It was fine.

Ive been going to the Branford River Spa for close to 2 years now and have had nothing but good experiences. Even when I come in with different ideas for holiday themed pedis. Doreen always accommodates my requests and schedule with a smile. I am particularly thrilled today with my Halloween themed nails! I love them!This is not a glossy chichi salon if that is what you are looking for. It is homey, cozy and intimate. And the owner and staff care that your happy.

My mom and I have been going to Doreen and her staff for many years. She does the best waxing in town !!! Always works with our schedules. Her staff makes you feel so welcome offering coffee tea or wine at your visit. I love love love this spa can’t say enough good things.

I highly recommend Branford River Resort & Spa. They offer a variety of services by a very friendly and professional staff. My favorite is a monthly massage. Debra, the massage therapist, that usually gives me my massage is excellent. If youre looking for relaxation and a total sense of well being this is the place to go. This is a spa that I attend frequently, especially in CT. One of my favorite parts is the infrared sauna. It is a truly great bonus--you can use it before/after any treatment free of charge (I usually use it for about 15 minutes before a massage or facial). They have a beautiful sitting room where you relax and wait for your service that is usually just occupied by one person (unless its a couples massage). Once or twice a year my boyfriend and I go for a couples massage and we really love the way they structure and provide the service. Its very private and comfortable, and they choose nice wine as an amenity. The staff are always professional and polite, and they have a wonderful shower for use at the end of any service. The reason why I wouldnt give it 5 stars is because it is very close to the road. Overall, you cannot hear much noise, but there is some from the busy road outside. I would certainly recommend this spa to friends and family.

If youre looking to have eyebrow microblading, this is the place to go! They are a full service spa, but Ive only gone for my eyebrows. Doreen is an artist! I love how natural my brows look and I LOVE that I go to bed with them and wake up with them and I dont have to do a thing. Women of a certain age can appreciate that there comes a time when your eyebrows just arent what they used to be and penciling them in is tiresome. Doreen makes the experience pleasant and her staff are professional and courteous. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. This place has become a necessity to me!

Worst deep tissue massage I have ever had. I only put one star because I cant put none. When I called to make the appointment, I told the girl I need someone with strong hands for deep massage. I got an owner who just scanned the surface of my back. She was contorting my legs up doing nothing but exposing my junk. I have been getting deep tissue massages for 20 years and this was by far the worst. Then she tried to up sell me into a membership. Whaaaat? Are you kidding me. Save yourself $95 bucks. Waste of my time and money.

I’m sure people love their massage.My experience was based on how she butchered my eyebrows, went in for microblading but it was not even, the other is curvier and the left is a little straight, she was in a hurry cause there’s another client who is waiting and she’s just scrapping it in my brows straight instead of making it align to look like a strand of hair in the brow. Now I have to wait for it to fade in order for me to go to a professional to get it fix.She talks to make you feel like it looks good but when in fact deep inside you know it was not good. Never went back for a retouch 2nd session, because I can’t trust her again after she butchered my 1st session.

Loved my facial. But my massage felt more like they were trying to kill time, it wasnt that relaxing. My feet did not get rubbed at all, she pressed down on all my toes, which felt like a time killer.. It did nothing. As with my hands.

I have held off on writing this review because I did not even want to think about the event as a whole. I left feeling completely violated and traumatized. This was the first spa Ive ever gone to in my life and I never want to return to one. Doreen was incredibly rude to me and my guests, I cant believe how she treated paying customers...If you are looking for a spa, make reservations elsewhere. I would never recommend this spa to someone.

I purchased a living social deal for the spa back in January and went back for my second visit today because the first visit was so positive. I even brought my mother who was visiting from out of town, for her to get her hair colored, cut and styled as well. We both saw Brittney and we both were in awe of her artistry. I can not speak highly enough of her. Both my mother and I felt that neither one of us had ever had such a beautiful job done with coloring. We both had highlights as well as color done with our haircuts and style. I feel that I have never had such a spectacular cut and color done. I have lived in Los Angeles, New Orleans and Manhattan, and have paid alot more money for not nearly as beautiful of a job. I can not recommend Brittney highly enough.

Deb burnt my feet with scalding hot paraffin wax. It took about 2 days for them to feel normal. The spa was not interested in the fact that the wax temperature was too high

I have had several services at the spa such as manicure, pedicure, facial and hot stone massage. Every experience was amazing, especially the massage.Doreen and Debra are amazing, personable and professional. I would highly recommend Branford River Resort and Spa.

Overall it was good but they weren’t transparent with their 30$ taxes. it’s not about the money but the fact your purchase a full package online and then they charge you for taxes after just feels so sneaky.

Probably the worst massage Ive ever gotten. Asked to focus on neck and lower back. Minimal effort at best. She kept asking if I wanted her to go harder. But that lasted all of 15 seconds and then it was back to the light touch. Very disappointing for ordering the deep tissue massage.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. If you want to find a really great spa this is not the place to go. Not only are their services basic (I can give a better massage than them), but they exploit their clients that dont enjoy their services. Basically they force you to sign a waiver stating no matter how bad the service, you CANNOT give a bad review which is very unfair and doesnt make me feel safe trusting them with my money and time. They also keep your card on file so they can charge you if you dont make it to your appointment. They charge you full amount even if you have a reasonable explanation for why you cant make the appointment. Dont waste your time!

In preparation for my wedding day I decided to look into treatments to help with the last 15lbs. I wanted to lose before my final dress fitting.I found Branford River Spa and have not regretted a moment since. I booked the Weight Loss Wrap and went in skeptical about what the results would be. I will break this review into sections about customer service, overall atmosphere/experience, treatment, results and cost to help target key points.Customer Service: In person Doreen and all of the staff were pleasant and attentive. On booking over the phone, the staff was friendly but didnt share much about what I should expect when arriving. This would have been helpful as I wasnt expecting to change into a very tiny and sheer disposable panty and bra. I was expecting to keep my own undergarments on. Perhaps this is common knowledge but I guess I missed that day in class. Either way, plan to be nearly naked for a bit.Overall Atmosphere/Environment: If youre expecting marble floors, water fountains and plush chaise lounges this is not the place. The spa is in a converted home and feels very much like it. Its a very warm and inviting place. Small but comfortable. There are sevaral rooms on each of the floors dedicated to makeup, facials, massages and other spa treatments. I knew there were other people receiving treatments but never crossed in the hallways or anything.Treament: The treatment begins with some time in the dry-heat sauna (infrared) which helps to detox prior to treatment. This is amazing and has other incredible benefits like pain relief, deep tissue relaxation and improved circulation. I consider these added perks that I wasnt expecting. Once youre out of the sauna its time to massage. Without giving away too many secrets, this a 2 part process. Its intense but boy do you get results. Incredible for cellulite reduction!!! After the massage youre wrapped in Doreens special blend of products and put into a warm bed to relax for about 30-45 minutes.Results: 1st Treatment - 10.5 inches total lost from thighs, arms and abdomen.2nd Treatment (1 week later) - an additional 4.75 inches total lost from thighs, arms and abdomen. Weight Loss - 5lbsAfter 3 weeks Ive continued to lose weight and have kept the 15+ inches off. I feel incredible! My skin is glowing, my face has never been this clear and hydrated. I feel great internally too. Ive never been this regular (TMI).Cost: The treatment I received was $120 and while that may seem steep, it is completely worth it. I have been to many high end spas that will charge 2x the price at Branford River Spa and gotten less than half of these results.With my dress final dress fitting coming up this week I am excited knowing that Ive reached my weight loss goal and will have no worries about lumpy arms in my strapless dress. My arms look firm and toned with very few cellulite bumps. This was not the case a month ago. For my honeymoon I am looking forward to wearing my bathing suit and not covering up with a sarong because I hated by legs. I feel sexy and am enjoying the confidence that this has helped to bring out. My husband to be is loving the results too!!!Thank you Doreen!!!

This place is terrible. My mother and I went for mani/pedis. I could have done the same job at home and saved a bunch of money. Not only was it basic but when other clientele came in they basically rushed us out. The woman doing my manicure left polish on my finger since she missed the nail and then they sent my out with both my toes and nails still wet! I didnt even make it to the car before my nails were ruined. An absolute waste of money!!

Went here for a girls day for my cousins 21st birthday. A wonderful place! Staff was professional and knowledgeable. The facility was clean, cozy and gave you the true spa experience...robes, slippers and tea! It was the best!

I first heard about Branford River Resort and Spa when I developed some health issues and I asked my doctor if an infrared suana would be beneficial for what I was having a problem with, my doctor agreed. My next office visit my doctor handed me a list of 3 spas in a 25 mile radius that had an infrared suana and she advised I call all 3 and make an appointment to go visit them. The first resort & spa I called was the Branford River Resort and Spa and I made an appointment to go visit there. When I walked in I was greeted by the receptionist who was ultra friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. She walked me upstairs to where the suana was located and where there was a set of personal lockers. She prepared the infrared suana while I was changing into a very comfortable almost full lenght robe in the private changing area. Right before I entered the suana she asked me if I needed or wanted water which was located right outside the suana. After my suana session was completed I took a shower in one of the most beautiful 5 jet shower that is the size of some walk-in closets and was so relaxing that I had to remind myself that I wasnt home and that I couldnt stay in there all day. On my way out I stopped at the reception desk and proceeded to book my next 3 sessions. I knew that I didnt have to visit any other resort & spa.. Almost 3 months later after meeting all the staff and wonderful owner Doreen I knew I made the right decision. Everyone there really goes out of their way to really make you feel relaxed, pampered and like youre someone real special. They are all friendly, accomodating and very professional, not once or twice but everytime Ive been there. A real 5 star resort & spa. Im still going there and plan to for a long time coming.

Having done business with them for over 25 years and exploring many other spas around the region, there is no comparison. Branford River Spa exceeds my expectations by far!!! As a medical professional I take pride in providing optimal care for my clients as I have witnessed here at Branford River and Spa. With any business their maybe someone looking to falsify information, however I could attest to the upmost professionalism of this establishment and have and will continue to recommend their services to others.

Experience was ok and staff were kind but it was definitely not worth the price. I purchased a spa package but was rushed out the door, skipping part of my treatment that is clearly listed on their website - which I had paid for.

Run down, owner seems burnt out and in their routine. Probably one of the most rough facials ever. Not a spa or resort feel at all more like a salon. It’s pretty cheap so that’s probably why. Not high end at all.

Excellent place for a day. We celebrated a milestone birthday & they were very accommodating. The staff is very personable & sweet. The place is very welcoming & relaxing. Definitely coming back

Doreen and her staff are so helpful and accommodating. It can be difficult to find a spa that is trustworthy and care about you. They certainly do and highly recommend them to anyone on the shoreline.

I havent been here but I can say they have excellent customer service. I have a very complicated schedule and they tried really hard to accommodate to it. Unfortunately we couldnt find a time. The whole process was very pleasant. They were very quick to respond too.

What an amazing experience!!!! Staff were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Services were all absolutely amazing and the environment was very peaceful and relaxing. Will absolutely be back and I cannot wait for next time!!!!
