Came here for the first time for an Urban Fetes Silent Party and I loved it! I thought it was genius to have a menu projected on the wall to be able to see it no matter where you are standing! Every place should adopt this! Drinks were strong but not too strong to where the taste is too much! Definitely will be back!
Fantastic place for promenade, birthday event or wedding venue.I am not positive of the fireplaces were legal but most gatherings had them going. Everyone was placing trash in cans witch were for recycling as well!!When people are civilized and leave a place clean we all are better off! The view of the city is great!
(Updated review down below) The service was good. Could have been better but still satisfactory. The food was fine. The menu was very small and limited. The lamb shank unfortunately lacked flavour. The salmon was very good but borderline salty. The gnocchi was super small for the price charged. But the atmosphere was very nice. Would I return? No but glad i tried it. I will recommend it to others though. It may be exactly what someone else is looking for. Unfortunately for me i felt over charged and a bit let down. 3 stars!Updated review: the owner reached out and gave me a gift card to come back. I went back on a Sunday and saw that Sunday had its own menu. It was much better! My friend and I had a better time on my 2nd visit and enjoyed the food more. The service was much better too! 4 stars!
Cocktails bars were missing in Hyde Park before the opening of the promontory. It is cozy place with a nice ambiance, the patio is perfect for summer. Cocktails are good and cheap (even cheaper during happy hour). The appetizers are trendy, I recommend the mezzanine spread, the combination of different olive with the hummus is fantastic.
My family and I went for brunch on Mother’s Day. First and foremost, the customer service and ambience sets the Promontory apart from other establishments. However, the food was just okay. The banana bread French toast was not so much French toast but banana bread with syrup. The chicken and waffles were great, it wasn’t Nashville hot (as listed on the menu). Our seat was beneath a vent, so our food had trouble staying warm. The waitress was great and warmed my americano. With all that being said. I will still return because the service was excellent and ambience was great. I’ll just stay away from the French toast.
Went there for pride 6/30/2024 @ 11:30am they close @ 2am and they tried to charge me $30 to enter and the drinks are over priced. They wonder why we don’t patronize establishments in our community, it’s highway robbery do not waste your time or money. I will never go there again. I’m sure they will be closed soon it’s a damn shame🤷🏾♂️
Great live music, food. Great people grown and sexy atmosphere. .Must visit.
Amazing, chill ambience at The Promontory! Food is outstanding - pimento cheeseburger and chickpea fries are a must. Also the catfish was outstanding and perfectly cooked! Hip and groovy spot with outstanding service - our server Alicia was so friendly and gave great suggestions. Will be back again and again!
Went for Juneteenth, the atmosphere & design is beautiful! Very spacious, has a bar, and patio seating. 2 floors!
One of the Best Intimate Venues in the City. Top notch staff and management. Intimate atmosphere in the middle of Hyde Park. I have seen some of the Best Concerts. And have produced a few as well. The Promontory is Music speaking directly to you. On this particular night the weather spoke one language and the music spoke another. It was chilly in the windy city, but Bernard Crump & Friends were on Fire.
Interesting menu choices. Not very healthy, but if you get the sweet potato fries, they are amazing. Salads, catfish, burgers, a whole wide ranging menu. All good stuff. Great wide windows allow plenty of natural light. The atmosphere is friendly but it is LOUD. The open ceiling contributes to that but also makes it a light, airy place. Also, open cooking so you can watch the chefs make your food.
Just had brunch at The Promontory this last weekend and it did not disappoint. We didnt have reservations but we also went kind of early (9am). Service was awesome. Never had to ask for a water or coffee refill and the food came out on time. This review is not about the service though. This review is about the excellent food options that left me perfectly satisfied. My husband and I split the hot chicken and waffles and the biscuits and gravy. Both dishes were not what we were expecting but were better. The gravy for the biscuits is not like typical sausage gravy. It had another flavor that made them almost sweet. The biscuits were large and fluffy. The hot chicken was not like typical Nashville hot chicken, it had maybe an ancho flavoring that added a dimension. I think what was great about both dishes is that the dish fit together and tasted better as a dish than separate items, this is especially true for the hot chicken and waffle. The promontory never disappoints!
Had lunch here today for the first time and Im still on the fence about this place. I ordered the grilled prawns…good taste overall however not exceptional. I would like to point out Ben. I brought to his attention that we were served our food without any cutlery and no refill on water. I waited a solid 5mins before asking for a manager. He apologized and even comped our meal which was beyond what I was expecting. Im giving them an extra star just for Ben and his customer service. I will return based off of that experience alone.
Have had a great time, every time I went.Drinks cost is standard, much cheaper than DT.
Three point five to be exact.Very beautiful looking interior. Open design, visible kitchen. Cool sounding space with vinyl spinning during the daytime.Food was good but left something to be desired.Beignets were a disappointment.Drink menu strong as expected.Service was average, server forgot our starter.
The owners to the establishment really sucks. They’re gypsies and play people out of their money. They over price And it’s not much to do inside of the promontory. You will get dry mouth, drinking the drinks and have nothing to wash it down with but soda water.
Promontory is just okay. The food is good. Tbe ambience is good. But not good enough to justify their prices. I appreciate them for being a mainstay in the new 53rd street, however, and one of the only classy cocktail bars. If you are not feeling too lazy to go downtown however I would head elsewhere.
Always a good vibe ... Although they have 1 security guard that didnt make it to the police academy so he does the most ...
Went for a Silent Party and had a blast there was a few hiccups with one of the music channels but eventually it was resolved. I didn’t care for they way they checked you in had to wait on the stairwell until they were ready. Bartenders were friendly and quick at making the cocktails. The DJ’s knew the crowd everyone was moving and grooving. If you like music you should definitely check out one of these events at this location.
I have mulled over trying to do this culinary experience justice. Not sure it is possible. The setting tucked away in Hyde Park. The decor inviting with plants, open kitchen and even outdoor seating had it not been 40 degrees. We started with specialty drinks! Special can not do them justice. Combinations of sweet, tart, and I can only describe the monkey business as smooth in a glass. A rum lover, the resemblance to an old fashioned can not be overlooked. The oyster appetizer, by far best I have ever eaten. The baked bread crumb, tomato, onion was just the right amount of special to highlight the flavor.Dinners we had the strip steak, scallops, ribs. From presentation to taste, everything was perfect. Each bite left you wanting another! A true culinary experience.Dessert? We didnt think it was possible but we looked and decided everything else had been so incredible it would be wrong not to partake. Wow! The warm apple pie served with ice cream and beignets were served warm. The chocolate cake had something atop it would could not even describe but only savor. We were already planning our return trip before the check came! A true culinary experience!!
Very nice clean venue great staff and management
Went to a day party with my daughter it was on her birthday. Had a good time
Great experience. I was there to see Bovi comedian. Bovi has a great show. I also enjoyed my self
Came here for their Hyde Park Holly Day event and we had a great time. Got pictures with Santa, got a free book, free hot cocoa, and some free arts and crafts for kids. It looks like a cool space for musical artists, so I would definitely consider coming here another time.
Beautiful boozy tasty reasonable. What more could you want from a cocktail. Sit at the bar for a very special experience with these excellent bar keeps. These ladies of libation know their craft and keep spirits high with seasonal cocktail concoctions. But have no fear if you cant find something amongst the rotating 16 specialties on the menu, their adept hands are more the willing to whip you up something tailored to your individual palette.
Very spacious for parties. Ensure if you are going to a party in the vip section that you mention it at the door or you will be charged.
I went here yesterday with my friends we got there about 9:45. We were only able to get two free wings. Im thinking that I will have fresh fried chicken. Nope chicken was reheated tasted like in been in the microwave. Karaoke didnt start at 11 sharp as listed on flyer. Guess they started after we left around 1130. I was told that this place is nice in the summer time so that would probably be the next time Ill be back. On a good note I enjoyed the strawberry margarita.
Always have a great time at this event space! Theres parking (limited) for a fee, cheap drinks, great staff behind the bar an outdoor space and is always clean. My partner and I try to keep up with their events because its always something different and new!
Very nice, clean, safe and fun environment! Go check it out yourself😉
I had a good time. My nephews band was in town. DuPont Brass band. The drinks were on point as usual. Ive been at the Promontory several times. I always had a good time! My nephew on the Tuba. He was on tiny desk with Raphael Saadiq. He was fantastic, so was the artist!!
Really had a great time. Patio nice, Djs perfect.
I havent been out praying in 14 years. After accepting an invite to a party there I was skeptical, but I trust the area of Hyde Park so I went. BEST TIME EVER! The venue is gorgeous and the silent party I attending was awesome. Will definitely be visiting again.
Great venue to dine out and enjoy live entertainment in Hyde Park Chicago. Street parking is limited. Plenty of pay parking.
Date night on a school night. Nice crows, great pour on the drinks. We sat in the back of the bar because all seats were taken up front, so early arrival is suggested. This was Grown Folks stories night. We did purchase tickets on event Brite, I think, for like 12 bucks, for the experience is definitely worth it. Diverse crowd and hilarious stories told. You can write your name down, and they pull from a bucket to see who gets to tell their literally random story. Id definitely go again.
I attended The Busting a Gut medutainment event. It was a comedy show/ medical information session. This was my first time at the Promontory. It was clean and small. But, spacious enough where no matter where you sat you could see the stage. The only issue was our event didnt start on time. But, that was because they had another event earlier that day. The food was good and the ladies bathroom was big enough for several stalls. But, the stairs to get in the Promontory will give you a workout. We will be back.
Went here for Karaoke and Wings night won’t never ever try this place and their events again! They lady didn’t set up until 10pm mind you it was supposed to be free wings until 1030pm. When asking about another “basket” of 3 wings yes 3 wings she said that was it. Wow!
Id say... Id come again. Everything had its own unique flavoring. My two Favorite are the Hong Kong Shrimp and Pot Roaste dishes.
Me and my cousin is from Detroit and stopped by this club to see what the Chicago club life was like.. Nothing like Detroit, no girls dancing too much unless they was with there dude... Drinks prices way too high and cover charge extremely too high for how small the place is. DJ was really good.. it was ok had a great time but the overall experience maybe 2.5 stars
This place has a cool vibe and great drinks. Perfect for a date night (Ive had one there), night with girlfriends (done that too), or a Saturday meet-up with friends (all of the above!). Two times Ive been theyve had a DJ spinning and he did not disappoint. Ive drove and also rode my bike here, its just a cool place for dress up or cute athletic and casual.
This is a great venue. However I was extremely disappointed during my last visit. A man next to me got annoyed by another woman next to him and he put his hands on her and flung her over to the next table. Security did nothing but stand beside him while he gets to sit and enjoy the rest of the show. Black women should be protected and it felt like the man (who was talking violently towards her the second she stood next to him to watch the show) was being protected instead. He should’ve been put out that night.
Overall an okay experience. We went on a Monday night so it wasnt busy. The ambiance is nice and we chose to sit at the bar. The highlight of the trip was bartenders Angela and Bob who gave great service. The cocktails were good, my favorite being the frozen drink, Perry Mason, and the new drink with the pistachio and rum raisin. The food was nothing to get excited about however, and would really only come here for drinks.
This was my first time at the Promontory. I went for the national poetry month event. Not a lot of street parking. There was a lot next to the event for $15 fee. So not bad. There was no security. No one checking bags. There was a full bar. Nice big room. I really enjoyed it!
Nice clean, relaxing atmosphere. Street parking can be challenging, but there is a parking lot that generally has spaces available with a pay box. Staff is pretty friendly. I go for the breakfast menu as it has a decent variety of tasty items (except the consistently lukewarm coffee), at fair prices, not cheap. The lunch and dinner menus are not as ideal to me....often lacking quality and good taste, like food being over or under cooked. Bar area is decent, but I always feel like there should be a flat screen tv there, unfortunately its not, which slightly takes away from the vibe. Would be nice to add some live music in the restaurant area occasionally. Overall, its convenient, with good hours of operation and Ill be back.
Clean and safe security! Nice evening for a comedy show!
I went on a Saturday night. Loved the vibe and music. It was a great mix of 35+. Drinks were good. Bar was a bit slow, but it wasnt a deal breaker. Id definitely go again.
Very nice atmosphere and good food. Service was a little slow and not particularly attentive but otherwise welcoming. We went for brunch. The chicken and waffles were terrific as were the shrimp and grits. Pork belly Benedict was rich but a little underwhelming given the ingredients. Cocktails were also a little hit or miss ... Stick to the less experimental variations on the old standards for best results.
Definitely a chill vibe. Lived the atmosphere. Needs more bartenders to handle the crowd. Waiting 30 min plus for a drink kinda sucks.
I usually have fun if I go on the weekend. Its not always packed, but the music is good. Try to check their website a couple days or even hours before you go. Im often able to get free or discounted tickets for the parties. There arent any seats unless you pay for a table/section.
The ambiance of this place is incredible. Building is creative, lighting innovative, seating comfortable. Bathrooms were very accessible and relatively clean. The food was also delicious. I highly, highly recommend the risotto. Best Vegan risotto (alright, only vegan risotto) Ive ever had! It was so rich in flavor I couldnt have enough! Our waiter, Graham, was also incredibly friendly and helpful with the menu. The only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 is because the burger was simply okay and the chocolate cake, while beautiful, just lacked something. Still, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I highly recommend you try it out!
This place really gets it right. It feels hip and sophisticated with great drinks and dishes. The servers know their stuff and made wonderful recommendations. They are accommodating and comfortable with great ambience - lively yet not too noisy. The outdoor area has comfortable seating to have a drink while we waited for a table and they text you when your table is ready. We did not feel rushed and were exceptionally well cared for. I would definitely go back.
Drinks are little pricey but it’s a beautiful space & I can’t say enough great things about the staff. Every single human I interacted with was so kind & funny & friendly & hardworking. The sound woman was really fast & efficient. The bartender was really accommodating when I asked for my drink in a glass rather than plastic (the amount of plastic given out at this place when they have glass behind the bar is my chief complaint). When I left something behind & came back after closing time no one acted annoyed, they just joked & helped me look. Seriously, the employees are what makes this place great!
Delicious. Excellent construction, prepared beautifully, different flavours and textures all work together wonderfully.Chicken thigh sandwich with egg was juicy and assembled to perfection.Chickpea fries were a little heavy for the meal. The prawns and grits were unexpectedly excellent.Jamaican old fashion was velvety smooth.Staff is friendly and helpfulGreat atmosphereChill music with varietyAlso quite hipster 🙄
Always a good venue for events. They no longer are affiliated with the restaurant below so no food but they sell snacks at bar. Surprised they dont have a better bourbon selection. Hyde park residents would definitely drink Basil Hayden and Woodford Reserve but I settled for Makers Mark.
This is one of my favorite places. I love coming here to see artists. They usually have simple drinks to try.( nice) Our table was not super close to the next one. Had a great view to the stage. The only thing I didnt like is the long wait on the stairs. It seems like everytime I go, we have to wait on the stairs for a minute. Other than that, it is a great place to go.
Great ambiance, location, and price; however, menu is very limited. While that isnt a deal breaker, my date and I were very dissatisfied with our meals. Waitress was great, drinks were amazing. I found the short ribs to be extremely chewy...flavor was amazing, but I exhausted myself chewing. Wings were awesome. I recommend sticking to bar foods next time. Overall, great place for drinks and wings.
The ambience was very nice, with friendly and efficient host and wait staff. This place might be if you are out and want to grab a drink. However, I would highly discouraged the purchase of food at this restaurant, the food lacked flavor and balance. My table ordered lamb shank, buffalo chicken, and scallops. I ordered the lamb shank, offered some to one person on the table, who only took a bite and left the rest on his plate. The taste was below par, 70% was still left on the plate. The manager indicated that the establishment stands by the quality of its lamb shank, and told me thank you,....., and walked away. Its unlikely that I would visit this location again, as I love food, and its clear that this establishment would not satisfy my cravings.I dont make it a practice to rate restaurants, but I had to rate this one. Management refusal to apologize, acknowledge the poor quality of the meal, or even pretend to care was problematic. The poor quality of the food was not even an exception. All five people at my table found their meals to be either average or below par.Buyers be aware!
Great food, great drinks. Pain to park. Brunch was delicious but cocktails took a long time. Had the salmon toast, amazing. Others had the burger, the fried green tomato benedict and the breakfast as well as a waffle for the table and a hand pie. Everything was fantastic. Service was good, a little scattered but I think the bartenders were slammed.
Nice location, great ambiance, great customer service. My husband had lamb and I had salmon. It was ok. We were there with our friends and one of them had to send their food back because it was cold. It was Saturday night around 7 PM and it was packed. Maybe I will go again when its not so busy. Overall I had a great time.
Went there today for the third time. It’s not the most vegan friendly restaurant, but they went out of their way to accommodate me. The salad dressing the chef made for me as an alternative to the dressing that comes with the house salad was amazing! I was truly impressed. There non-alcoholic drinks are awesome as well and change with the seasons!
This place is nice with reasonable prices and their menu is modern. My biggest complaint was that they were extraordinarily heavy handed with the salt. We got the chickpea fries, smoked feta, and acorn squash. The squash was unique and enjoyable. We unfortunately didn’t finish either of the other two dishes due to how much salt there was on them, especially the smoked feta. They seemed to have added salt to the feta and when added to already salty pickled veggies and olives with grilled bread that was also salted, it was just too much. We got the mussels for the main, which was good. The sauce was unique and very tasty. They did a unique topping on the bread that went well with it. While tasty, it made the bread soggy and not great for dipping. We finished with the coffee cremeux, which I really enjoyed. I wouldn’t write this place off, but I’d make sure to ask for easy salt.
Customer Service is a plus 5. The gentlemen at the front door were impeccably professional. Two stars begin here....However, the price of the bottle service was outrageous! Who would pay $575 per bottle for 1942. $250 for at $30 bottle of Titos. Not worth the time or money. Nonetheless, the replaying the same music of Ampiano prior to Major League was horribly boring. Major League should come out earlier. Would love to see them, but I left.I will just enjoy them on YouTube.
We came for Sunday brunch and had a reservation. The place is very nice and service was perfect. However, it does get loud and music is pretty loud too. Cocktails were good. Food was decent but nothing special, which is a bit disappointing given the price and the setting. The burger, especially, was very bland.
Visited this location yesterday. The ENTIRE meal was divine! My family (husband, niece) were all equally pleased. The chef (who had worked a double shift) on that evening greeted and chatted with us personally. Even preparing us a custom dessert along with a sampling of their delectable sorbets. His (and staff) hospitality was equally refreshing. This is a MUST visit site for exceptional food, great location and superior staff. Treat yourself and check them out soon!!!
Had no idea this place was packing the crowds in. What a great place to see new talent. Is there an open mike night? How does new talent get 10 minutes onstage here?
The atmosphere of this place is very mellow and supportive if you want to go here on a date. However, this place always works well as a standard bar, being a bit quieter than other bars.Events are regularly held here allowing you to experience Hyde Park as whole while having loads of fun! I highly recommend
Came for brunch, this place has a lovely low key vibe to it. All the staff were very nice and easygoing. It made my friends and me feel like we could really take a step back from our morning and just enjoy our meal outside. And food was amazing!
I came here for brunch and had their chicken and waffles. The chicken was good but the waffles were cold and hard. I was in a rush so I didn’t say anything. The place looks nice. I ate outside on their patio. The table we sat at was rickety and small for two people to eat. I’d like to go again. I don’t want to judge the whole place from that one experience.
I’ve been here several times and I absolutely love it. The atmosphere is always so warm and inviting, it’s always been clean and I’m always served immediately when I enter . I’ve never had a bad experience here. There menu is very unique, with combinations almost unheard of but the great part is that it tastes so darn good!!! It’s always a pleasure coming here and being a native Chicagoan I definitely can confidently recommend this place to all of my out of town family and friends and a must-go spot . The sheer quality of this place definitely sets itself aside as one of THE BEST PLACES IN HYDE PARK . Very friendly staff and the chefs definitely do their thang!, Thank You.
It was fine. Went there with a group of friends for a silent party event. The bar had three bartenders and it was busy busy. Stood @ the bar 15 mins, in front of the bartender until he finally took my order. He got snippy with some of the patrons. For the most part, Ppl enjoyed themselves. They had the djs on the channels play RnB, Trap and Juke. But mainly the latter. Not much juke music or house. Eventually they only play trap and Rnb. It was my 1st time seeing the full length of the venue. Only problem was the lack of professionalism from the bartender (tall, slender dark-skinned) and the headphones werent loud enough.
Unique Hyde Park restaurant and bar focusing on mixed drinks and excellent food. Some outdoor seating is available in good weather, and the place is always comfortable and welcoming. The food from the small menu changes regularly and is 5-star, and the service has always been excellent. Theres no kids menu, but they will make a plain hamburger or something similar on request. Portions are reasonable but not giant, which is a good thing, imo (not a fan of food waste). One star down because the music, while good, is needlessly loud, forcing guests to talk loudly and raising the total volume to a roar making it hard to hold normal conversation. Outside seating volume is more reasonable. The upstairs music venue is superb, and I wish more live acts would play there. Metered parking is available on the street, and theres a pay lot behind the place.
Night life is decent the bartenders are efficient and fast and if youre a patient waiter it worth it for drinks. Bathrooms are the only issue, some stalls tissue dispensers are always empty. Other then that sometimes you get an ok vibe and others you might have a great one.
Really great spot with delicious food, a great patio and wonderful cocktails. Service was fast and very friendly and the meals were very unique takes on traditional favorites. Highly recommended if youre in the Hyde Park area for a meal and a drink!
The food is quite good. Ive eaten here several times, had only one bad meal (a super tough pork chop) and they didnt charge me, without even being asked. The main reason for three rather than four stars is that this place is so noisy its hard to have a conversation. A combination of the crowd, too loud music, and bad acoustics. Thats fine for a bar but this isnt at all appropriate if youre looking for an intimate dinner or a place to bring a visitor (like a guest speaker to the university).
I attended an event on Oct 13th, and it was not a good experience. the event host had some very rude people, and there was not enough seating for all the people who bought tickets to attend.
Great place for shows and entertainment!
Delicious and creative dishes with a great ambience. The food is pricey, but worth it if you can afford it. If youre less inclined to splurge on a full dinner, few excellent cocktails from the bar with a side of chickpea fries is always a good option!
Hands down one of my favorite concert and party venues in the city! The staff are very accommodating and I have never had a bad experience there for any event that Ive attended. The food is also amazing at the restaurant on the first floor. There is always something going on! Subscribe to their newsletter and find out more!
My husband and I have been before. First experience was excellent. The food was great! The gentleman who took care of us did just that. Very attentive. This one was not so much. The service we received was pretty poor. It was as if we didnt exist to our waiter. Wasnt a very warm or welcoming evening. Not sure if well be back any time soon.
We went for brunch on a Saturday 2/8/2020. The food and cocktails were delicious and fresh. Unfortunately our server was bad and needs training. She didn’t bring a cocktail we ordered until we had finished our entrees and asked for it ... we tried to get her attention twice during our meal. The restaurant was half empty.
This is a gorgeous venue for all kinds of events. They have a awesome sized space for the dance floor, the bar is quite wide and the outdoor balcony is very cozy and designed to make strangers comfortable and conversational. Recently visited for the first time for #PartyNoire and it was just fantastic. They also have good Ginger Beer.
I had a blast their. Love the whole set up...but what I didnt care for is being lied to about buying a bottle in order to sit at a table. When all I really needed to do was buy a pitcher of mix drink.
We had dinner and and attended saw a dj here. We were really impressed. We loved the atmosphere at dinner and the food was great. Service was slow but it wasnt too bad. The upstairs venue was cool. We got there right at 930 when they opened up and there was no problem getting drinks. The DJ there was great playing a lot of soul. I would love to come back here again.
Hearth to table, unique and traditional drink options, love the ambiance. In the heart of Hyde Park. I would recommend in the summer calling and making a reservation. Bar seating is first come first serve. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I typically only go to about 5 places. This is my new favorite spot.
Came here for dinner while visiting Chicago. Such a great vibe. I love the two tier set up, with great food and on the first floor, and live performances upstairs. Great mix of people from all sorts of backgrounds. Felt VERY comfortable and inclusive. Id DEFINITELY recommend this place to everyone.
Was recommended by local friends. Cant believe we missed Booker T. but had brunch the following morning. Got attacked by bees on the patio but the wait staff was really cool about moving us inside! Delicious, phenomenal food. The music playing was perfect - what a gem!
Went last night and had a blast. The first DJ was awesome. The second played good selections but was no where near as good as the first on his transitions between songs. Yet, all in all, they both kept the crowd dancing. Drinks where good and the people were very friendly. The afro-fusion was great. DEFINITELY will go back again.
Aside from being a fantastic restaurant, my husband and I chose The Promontory for our wedding and we could not have been happier. Our coordinator Chelsea took such good care of us and helped us even when we didnt know what we needed. The Promontory planned a fabulous menu and drinks for our special day and were told by several guest that it was the best wedding food theyve ever had. Fantastic from start to finish.Thank you Promontory team for hosting us and giving us such an effortless, memorable experience.
This place is just okay. To me overrated because where it’s located. Got the hot wings with ranch dressing. Nothing spectacular about them at all. The fries were crispy. My spouse got the salmon which was good until you got to the middle. The middle was uncooked. I get some people eat salmon that way but not everybody. They should disclose that. Besides that we waited 30 minutes to be seated. From the entrance it looked packed but once we got seated, it was plenty of empty tables. There was no need for the wait. The guy hostess isn’t pleasant he kept staring at us. He even stopped looked at us, then asked the girls two tables away how’s everything. It was like he had to decide if he wanted to say something to us. The waiter was alright nothing special about him. Don’t think I will ever want to come back here again. Like I said nothing spectacular about this place.
Came here for a show, and decided to grab a bite to eat before. To my surprise, the restaurant staff was extremely rude and treated me like I wasnt supposed to be there. I even tried to spark a friendly conversation with them, and again was met with disdain and felt very unwelcomed. Food was alright, and the music venue is great. Such a shame, because the atmosphere and location was very good. However the staff made the whole experience not worth repeating.
Went with a few friends to the red and white party and the DJ played a variety of music, I danced all night. The drinks are about 10 and up and it was 12 to get in also parking was limited but we found a spot not too far from the club. It was good energy in there and overall I had fun!
2nd time here within a month. Server was inattentive but nice when he did come around. The food is decent but slightly overpriced. Had the rabbit sausage this time around and it was a bit dry. Had the burger before and that was much better. It has a cool vibe and a good crowd.Good to try it out but there are better choices in Hyde Park.
Interesting location, very hip. Food was not so great ... I had eggplant parmesan. Thinly sliced eggplant was great, but it was served swimming in a huge blob of thick tomato sauce ... it ruined the eggplant, was simply too much sauce ... my friend had salmon served on a bed of small onions. We had a side dish as starter of sweet potatoes, was interesting and tasty ... not sure I would rush back here, which is too bad. Hyde Park needs great restaurants...
This place is challenging to rate. The food and drinks are good, the prices are okay, and ultimately the service turns out okay. However, Ive yet to have a visit where the manager hasnt introduced himself to fix some mixup. Its great that hes aware without being asked and fixes things, but I only bring patient friends here for now. When the service doesnt get mixed up, it is good. I suspect there may just often be a slight shortage of servers or backline folks.
It was my first time and it was a great experience! If you wanted to relax and talk with friends, or dance, or just sip on some tasty drinks with other black and colored folks of all genders and sexualities, then this is the place for you! The music was great, people were friendly, I loved it!!
We had a very nice Sunday brunch. There of us had the fried green tomatoes benedict, biscuits and gravy, and Nashville hot chicken and waffles. Each dish was well executed, both in presentation and flavor. Also, they were not completely packed and didnt mind is taking our time and staying for conversation afterwards.
Never really had any troubles here. I go here maybe once or twice a month. The drinks are good, the music is good. 2 things I dont like though. 1, the bar takes forever 2. The lines take forever. Personal opinion, get 2 bartenders on each side of the bar. Get more security at the door so its faster to get into
I attended a concert on the second level of this establishment. It has a spacious hall with a bar and a terrace. It was opening night for the concert venue so the place was packed with people. I sat in the back on the sofas near the bar and terrace. I could not see much of the concert but I enjoyed the music nonetheless. I tried an Old Fashioned Jamaican Rum cocktail. The drink was good and stiff. You definitely get your moneys worth. Tip: Arrive early for limited seating of general admission. Happy to see a concert venue in Hyde Park.
I went there for a concert for the 1st time, and I was not impressed with the delay as far as the start time of the show. They seemed to giving us all waiting the run around. The place is very nice and very upbeat. Nice dining area and the concert area is quite cozy which I really liked. Hope to have better experiences in the future and Im looking forward to tasting their food.
The particular event I went to was fabulous. The presentation of the food was wonderful as well as delicious, staff was accommodating venue nice and clean.
Went for salsa/latin dancing night. So much fun! Theres a short lesson at the beginning for beginners and open dancing the rest of the night. Good drinks although a little expensive.
We came in from out of town and were looking for a nice place to go. Someone recommended we come here. This day it was some type of day party or something (5/14/22). I was dressed pretty casual (jeans and blouse - nothing too fancy but decent for a day party). We had been traveling and just was glad to find a nice place for music and vibes. It was on the 3rd floor and after a while, my friend needed some air because she was getting too warm and felt a little nauseous due to the heat. So I went to the door where the security guy was to see if she could get some air outside (on the patio because it was right in front of us). He said she could NOT walk outside to get air and that she’d have to go downstairs on the 2nd floor. I told him, it’s just that she’s is already warm and just need like 2 mins of fresh air, he said no and completely dismissed me. So then less than 5 mins later some half dressed woman wanted to go take selfies and he let her and everyone who wore revealing clothes outside. I made eye contact with him then he then started turning them away. I will never support this business when I come to Chicago. I dont write many reviews but felt it was necessary to write this one. It’s sad that people are like this and just shows how people operate. Never again. (The security guy was kinda husky, brown skinned with a beard - flirted with everyone who was half dressed.)
Can only speak for the bar downstairs. Good drinks. Standard chicago prices for cocktails 8-14 $. Liked a lot of them. Usually soft background music that doesnt overwhelm your conversation. Tried happy hour dishes which are decent, but not a full meal.
Attended a live music, jazz concert here. The venue is on the second floor. The restaurant is located on the ground floor. The acoustics were great. Its an intimate place, with limited seating. Its advisable to buy tickets online if sitting is really important to you. They sell standing tickets as well.
Fantastic modern architecture with classic Chicago historic buildings backdrop! Structure is amazing. Food even better, just phenomenal. The event space is cozy with the vibe of every old school Chicago venue we grew up going to like the Vic or Riv but in a condensed modern version complete with outdoor patio. Just so happy this place exists! Done right!
There for hyde park jazz fest benefit. facility and fest staff very kind and accommodating. benefit concert exciting and dynamic. live jazz!! promontory is a terrific venue; wait staff, snacks and bartenders top notch. great night, great jazz, great organization.
I love Promontory. Pre-covid it was a nice space to have a drink with a friend or do some work. The drinks are excellent. The servers and bartenders are excellent and friendly. (The lighting was a little dark for reading.)Now they serve drinks outside. Hesitant about resuming restaurant and bar dining, Prom is the first place I felt safe trying. The tables are spaced far apart and a healthy breeze blows through the covered seating area. I was so happy to be back!
I really love Hyde Park and this place stands out as one of the better places to grab a bite and drink there in my opinion. The cocktail list is excellent so you can easily find a drink thats special and different then your normal request. Ill definitely be going back.
This restaurant experience was strange for me. I mean the location on a narrow street made even getting to the smallish parking lot difficult, but thats not a deal-breaker. I just dont know about the food and the space. The Promontory is very large yet we felt cramped at out table for 6. Our drink selections read like yummy, refreshing offerings on the menu, but each one tasted just, well... Okay. We all ordered different meals for tasting and sharing and nothing was as good as its menu description. Nothing was BAD, just not impressive, or so yummy that anyone was saying Id have this again! I dont know, the experience just seemed off as if Promontory just hasnt quite found its mojo yet. I think we will try it again and compare.
This was a great place to have a celebration meal. The atmosphere is noisy enough to make it private but still conducive to conversation. Interesting menu. The only suggestion is if you go in the evening, make sure you have a flashlight app on you phone to read the menu. Wonderful addition to Hyde Park!
Tonight show was mediocre. And not due to the artist. They did their job. But the sound guy was horrible. And I thought I was going to see DeAngelo. He never showed. Somehow I feel cheated. We want a refund.
Salsa was nice, but they were late starting. Then went downstairs to restaurant & was disappointed. Short ribs were fatty and tough with nothing else on the plate for $20. Save your money. Plus server never came back to give straw requested for water or to see if everything was okay.
Ive been here a few times for dinner, and the food has always been great, though Im more likely to come to sit at the bar and enjoy their beer and seasonal cocktails. The draft beer list is solid (around 8 beers) with one macrobrew (something like a Schlitz for $3-4) and the rest a good mix of microbrews, many of which are local or regional ($6-8). They also have a good bottle list of, say, 12-15 beers. The seasonal cocktails are fantastic, and you can always find something youd like as well as something new to give a try. The service has always been great - always kind and professional. Im a big fan, and Ill keep coming back.
Not impressed at the least with the restaurant. The lighting is terrible Anttime you have to use your cell phone to see the menu, and thats with glasses on. The chicken wings had absolutely no seasoning. I feel they think the molasses sauce is the seasoning...Terrible.But I will say the fries were good. I would not go back. The music upstairs was great. Noteworthy Jazz Band played. AWESOME!!
Excellent new American food. However, for the price, I expected a bit more food. The server was kind enough to give us an extra beer-mosa, as the bartender made one too many. The lights were unusually dim for brunch.
Nice! I wish they had more food options. Parking is plentiful. A great destination point for the neighborhood and a wonderful destination point for tourists. I wish I had more friends so we could meet there every Friday to watch the beautiful people come and go.
I really enjoy this place. The atmosphere for singles or couples are very friendly and romantic. They need to add more food choice but the food is awesome. I had a Salomon Salad very delicious.
Great venue and atmosphere that serves good quality food. Crab veloute was creamy and packed with flavor. Pork chop was cooked to perfection and it paired well with the refried beans. I was not a big fan of the chocolate cake though.
The menu could use some fine tuning, its kind of scattered. I had the burger and it was delicious, my fries were burnt. Our server kept disappearing and forgetting our request. I gave 4 stars for the ambiance and burger alone.
So much fun!! One of the best karaoke places to go! The atmosphere and ambiance is really nice! If you want to feel like your in concert, this is the place to be.
I enjoyed my experience. I visited a couple weeks ago & I ordered a Margaritas, but no food that night. No complaints.Visited again about a week later & ordered food, short ribs. It came with no sides. Is this a new Hyde Park restaurant trend or something b/c Ive heard A10 dishes dont include sides as well?? Anywho, meat was not warm, almost cold & not worth the price. Atmosphere & drinks always good, but food is not
Promontory—thank you for a wonderful experience all around. We had a larger family brunch/civil union there in June and it was delicious, affordable and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating (manager Ben especially)—even threw in a few bottles of champagne. We considered 10 restaurants to host this outdoor shindig, visiting 5 and Promontory fit our needs the most. Most importantly it was just the most delicious. BUT, they also worked with us to adjust our event menu, were responsive, financially reasonable, and it was clear they value good service and excellent food as an institution rather than making tons of money for what other places were asking to host a small planned brunch. We wouldn’t hesitate about going back there again for a meal alone or planning a bigger event.
Multipurpose space open for events just about every day. Whether music, dancing, or a bazaar, this place brings the heat. A full bar serves competent cocktails, and the restaurant below makes great food. Solid date spot, whether seeing a show or not. Conveniently among the new developments in Harper Square. Wheelchair accessible, takes credit cards.
Place was sexy. Has great modern vib. Menu looked good as well. I was serviced by Don. Nicest person ever. Always had a smile and knew his stuff. Would definitely recommend him and this restaurant.
Food is top notch and service is great. There is a venue upstairs featuring an eclectic assortment of up-and-comers and worth-seeing once-greats. Outdoor patio is covered and can handle a striaight-down rain but not a slanty rain. Indoors had a bit of a din problem but it might just be that the music is too loud. Definitely go here. Dont miss it.
The venue itself is always cool... Ive hit up some cool events but the event I was attending tonight was TRASH!!! A straight slick finesse... A mandatory coat check? What for? A Don C event that doesnt include Don C? How Sway? Charging $200+ for a $50 bottle of Remy? $12 for a crafted cocktail that Remy shouldve sponsored? Im good luv... Enjoy
Very nice venue and nice group of people, but the bartending service is TERRIBLE!! I went to a day party here about 2 weeks ago, and my friend and I literally stood by the bar attempting to get bartenders attention for about an hour! Never even was acknowledged! There were 4 bartenders and they still couldnt manage the crowd. So overall I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. We ended up having to leave to go get alcohol. Ridiculous!
This place is pretty awesome. Restaurant downstairs with performance/event space upstairs. Food was delicious but if youre in a rush, you may want to get there a bit earlier to avoid a wait time. Overall, great spot.
This place is a must go to!! I had so much fun, drinks and the food vendors where exceptionally good! I had some tacos from Taylor tacos, and bought some palomas (drink). They had a couple of djs, everyone was just dancing and having fun.
This venue is beautiful. I attended an event by PartyNoire, this past weekend, and was blown away by the space, atmosphere, and decor: dance floor, stage, outside seating, and clean bathrooms (very important). After the party, I had dinner downstairs. The food portions were rather small, however they sure know how to mix a tasty adult beverage.
Visiting from Los Angeles, great space very laid back, great staff. I ordered the lamb hash for brunch. It was fresh and tasty. My only concern would be charging for TOAST, 4 DOLLARS, I should have gotten a loaf of bread. Otherwise great meal. Toast should come with the meal. Thanks Emery from LA
Their Point Breakfast is really good and they have some good cocktails as well. My favorite is their mysterious chickpea fries, you should definitely get them! Its a good place to hangout, but its a little too expensive I think.
This place gets 5 stars for ambience. Drinks are good. However, the food options leave much to be desired. Portions are small. And they have ZERO options for vegetarians or even pescaterians on their lunch menu. The best they could offer is omelet from breakfast menu or some appetizer dips. Given this is in Hyde Park, Chicago there is no reason for such paucity of options.
The food was tasty but the lighting was so dim that I didnt feel as comfortable as l would like to be. My food was too salty so I exchanged it with my husband who ordered the exact same thing and his had hardly any salt. The consistency wasnt there.
Really bad. My wings were bloody on the inside, our fries were burnt, and our drinks were bitter. Wouldnt have been so bad but the place is overpriced. I also cut my leg on the chair and our server had to get me a band aid. Overall just nothing good to say about it.
I made reservations for lunch in July and tried to communicate about them but received no response. This is one of the most unprofessional places I have ever eaten at in the whole city of Chicago.FIRST of all the manager has a fit because one of his staff was nice enough to set up a table on the patio which I tried calling about and no one responded. I was scrutinized it took everything for me not tell that rude manager a thing or two. They didnt have enough class to let their customers know that they didnt open until 4pm. MY RESERVATION WAS AT 2PM! THEIR ATTITUDE SUCKS THE FOOD SUCKS AND THE MANAGER SUCKS IL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME THERE. I JUST WANTED TO TO GET TOGETHER WITH FAMILY.THEIR FOOD IS NOT WORTH ALL THE MONEY I SPENT AND IT TOOK ALL OF THIS TIME TO COOL DOWN FROM THAT MANAGERS BIASED BEHAVIOR. Oh I think the manager said he was the owner and he made me feel very uncomfortable. The answer to the owners question is July 11th 2018The problem was with a man who said that he was the owner. If you need more info email me.
Sent two dishes back at the restaurant 1) short ribs (fatty cut, should not have been served) 2) Eggs Benedict (served cold). These are minor errors that should have been caught. Also a few times I had issues with drinks I ordered there in regards to hospitality. However, the feta olive dip on the dinner menu is amazing.
Great. Ive been here twice and havent been disappointed
Best Margarita I have EVER HAD! I love the atmosphere and the vibe I get being there. Open and not too crowded. And the clientele was perfect. Old school hip hop vibe with a lil bit of soul/house styles.
Best place in Hyde Park! The bar looks great, the food and drinks are a welcomed fresh breath, and the venues are always fun with a great level of class. The staff are courteous, professional, and overall beautiful people!
Had an awesome time. Never been to the restaurant downstairs...but I love the events they have upstairs. Drinks are great and bartenders are attentive and dont take all day to serve you.
My husband and I have been here a few times and its always a struggle. On our first visit we sat outside and had incredibly slow service (in an empty restaurant) and a socially awkward waiter who aggressively chucked water into some plants located behind the table next to us. Our next experience was equally as bizarre. Ready to give this joint another chance since our food was so great, I had made reservations To celebrate my husband matching into a residency program. When I called and asked to modify our reservation to an earlier time I told the hostess my name and the time of our reservation. When she didnt pull up any results under my name I apologized and said that I must have made them under my husbands, Brent. After searching, the hostess only reply was well ok, Theresa, AKA Brent I found your reservation and we cant move up your party and promptly hung up. Without a good bye.You really cant make this kind of stuff up...Save yourself the hassle from the rude staff and go over to A10 right down the street!
Beignets were amazing but would go great with a chocolate drizzle to add some balance to the whole combination. Waitress was super kind enough as we ran late coming in for our reservation. Met some great friends in the process.
Long wait to get in. Doors opened @ 6:15. Stood at the bottom of the stairs for 45 minutes. Once the show started it was awesome. Ronnie G & the G band was awesome. Lonnie L Smith still got it. I really wanted to hear The Creator has a Master plan though. All in all I had a great time.
Slow kitchen and confusing hostess hurt the amazing service the waiting staff delivers. That said, drinks are good and timely. Your food, however, could take an unacceptable while to get to you if theyre busy.
Wonderful option for hyde park. I really admire their attempt to cook food over a real wood fired skillet. Some dishes, particularly the small plates are real hits. I recommend the lamb burger as well. Not everything is always great, but I credit them for pushing off the beaten path with their menu. I love the matrix (or grid) style cocktail with rows corresponding to certain liquors and columns to styles of drinks. The cocktails are rotated frequently and excellent. Be forewarned that the design can make the restaurant loud, but you may appreciate the lively atmosphere depending on your style.
The atmosphere and ambiance is nice. Its a little too dark for my taste. I didnt like having to shine my mobile phone flashlight on the limted menu to place my order. My wife and I ordered chicken wings & fries for starters they were good. I had the short ribs of beef as a main course. They did not come with an accompanying side dish. My wife had the cheese burger. They prepared tp her liking, rare, but they only serve it with american cheese. Overall its a good place to go to for a meal prior to a concert at the upstairs music venue.
Very very dope spot. Fantastic food. Friendly, accommodating staff (both in the restaurant and the venue). Excellent shows. Ive been there twice in two weekends. Both times were exceptional!
Been to the Promotory more than a dozen times, and three times in the last week (mostly to entertain visitors). The open fire cooking is the attraction, but the fire doesnt touch all, or even most, of their food. The food quality is very uneven. Sometimes the food is delicious, but Ive also been served stone cold and over cooked entrees that should have never left the kitchen. Food value can be low ($20 risotto made with what seems like frozen peas), and veggie options are limited. Stay away from their chicken, which is almost always overcooked. The short ribs are typically delicious. Best feature of this place is the outdoor covered seating, which is rare in Hyde Park. Service is typically slow, but generally friendly.
Both great food and good beer selection. They drinks are fine, the food is good, but unlike A10, they have cheap beer if you dont feel like spending an arm and a leg. Best place for a beer nearby.
Dont order the cheeseburger. I ordered mine medium rare. The beef was a thin burger that came cooked all the way through. Not want I expected for the 1st entree listend, one of only a handful of options, and priced at $15. It was on a large bun with way too much bread that was sliced poorly. The bottom was paper thin and top was massive. Two of us that ordered it had to remove some bread. The onions were barely cooked and the cheese was placed half off the patty. Flavor was lacking and dry. Had to use the ketchup from my fries to finish it. Restaurant has great ambiance.
The food, what I can eat at least, is delicious. The service has been fine as well. My only complaint is the lack of gluten free options. I know that cant be a concern to every chef for every dish, but I have celiac and would appreciate at least one more GF dish other than an omelette and a salad. Every other dish is a sandwich or deep fried. I cant ding them too hard, but it is disappointing.
