Kingston Mines in Chicago is the place to be when the bats come out. This joint swings well into the wee hours, perfect for a night owl like me.I know good music when I hear it. Rico McFarlane had me air-guitaring in front of the stage like a rockstar.I investigated docs kitchen. Lets just say the fried food aroma called to me like the bat signal. The vintage post office box wall caught my eye. It appears to be original - further detective work was needed. This place has got it all: killer tunes, delicious eats, and a healthy dose of history. Its no wonder Kingston Mines is a Chicago institution. Whether youre a blues aficionado or just looking for a good time, this place wont disappoint. Crime never sleeps. Neither does the blues!

Strongly suggested: a great venue for blues and rock gigs. Two independent areas, one concert stage each: when one band ends, the other one start in the side area. This is amazing, you may spend good time there since 8 pm till late night by attending the show of many bands. Love this. Tickets at the counter, 20 bucks (cash is faster). Drink: you may ask the servers. There is a cuisine in common to both spaces, go there and pay for typical pub food (good quality for good price).

Absolutely the worst blues bar I have ever been in!!! Nothing but drunken young “privileged “people causing chaos. What really bothered me was when one of them had so many beers he threw up all over the place he was clearly wasted and was escorted out just to be let back in by security. His brother begged them to let him back in. Like one said they come in already drunk and belligerent not even interested in listening to the music just looking to start trouble. This aint your average music venue, folks. Were talking about a Chicago legend, a blues institution thats been pulsating with soul since 1968! Two stages pump out the good stuff, from rising stars to icons like Joanna Connor herself. But the musics just the first sip of the magic. Need a cold one to quench your thirst while the rhythms sizzle? Theyve got you covered with a killer selection of beers, both boozy and non-boozy. Want something a little smoother? My heart did a tap dance when I saw they had my beloved Vanilla Vodka! Trust me, finding that aint easy.

My wife and I have avoided this place since forever, knowing that it was a corny joint where DePaul kids and Napervillians get white girl wasted and listen to the whitest blues known to man (except for the occasional legit act). So, when a friend from Toronto visited and insisted we catch a set, we begrudgingly complied and braced for garbage. And, without fail, Kingston Mines delivered on the suck. Horrible bartender girls who insisted on credit cards and messed up our order, drunk patrons who pushed and shoved and brayed like donkeys at the stage with synchronized hip gyrations, and a bunch of surprise charges on my card even though I only signed one bill and ordered drinks to a single tab. Bravo, thanks for confirmation that this place still sucks, never again.

This establishment is explicitly and aggressively anti- queer.A friend of mine (who happens to be trans) got asked for her ID by security when trying to go to the bathroom last night. We asked and there was no complaint, this wasnt a patron making a stink, this was a member of their security team deciding to target my friend because she could have lost her job if she didnt. We talked to the owner and its policy there for security to check IDs if they think somebody might be in the wrong bathroom because there have been complaints in the past. We were there for about 3 hours before this happened celebrating my friends birthday and not a single one of us saw anybody else getting carded to use the bathroom.I most certainly will never come back and Im disgusted I mistakenly patronized such an awful anti- lgbt q+ place.

Once they’re done playing, by the time you get routed back into the original room you were in, there are no seats available.Owners, if you even read this, why not have the second performer be set up and ready to go so that when the first performer is done. Also, for those who haven’t gone yet, save your money, the drinks are expensive, and the alcohol is sparse in them. Removing one star because the waitress lost our credit card from the tab (but then found it 20 min later). Cover is $20 but worth it for the atmosphere. If you are concerned about being in a crowd, this is not the place for you.

Awesome vibe. Wether you are a blues fan or not, this is a great place to spend an hour in the evening or a whole night. The food took us a super long time to order (the line moves very slowly so I would suggest sticking to the drinks and music). We showed up around 7PM and it was pretty empty so we got a great table. But by 9:00 it was quite full, so if you’d like to sit, show up somewhere in between those hours.

One of my absolute favorite places in Chicago. Kingston Mines is a late night blues venue with live music every night. They charge a $15 cover at the door ($10 with a student ID), but the drinks are pretty cheap for Chicago, so that mostly makes up for the cover. Their resident musicians are amazing, specifically Joanna Connor, who freakin’ wails. If you can manage, I highly recommend going on a night when Joanna is playing - you won’t be disappointed. They also serve plenty of great, greasy bar food to help you survive the late night. I typically go to Kingston around 1 or 2AM and stay until 4. Usually there isn’t a line around 12 or 1 but one forms soon after on most weekend nights.

Kingston Mines is one of the best of Chicagos historic blues venues. The club has two stages and features two separate acts alternating sets each hour. They have one of the few of the citys licences which allows them to remain open until 4 a.m (5 a.m. on Saturdays).Prior to the pandemic, they were open 7 days a week. But now are currently open Thursday through Saturday nights. They also feature excellent BBQ and Cajun food, which is available until the wee hours of the morning. If you like the blues, you dont want to miss this place!

This music and the bands are great. I would suggest eating before you get here. The Kitchen Manager is filthy, he doesn’t wash his hands, he is very offensive and he doesn’t have any valid certifications to work in the Chicago area. People also get sick due to the Kitchen Manager Adam not properly cleaning the food and kitchen. Pray over your food if you decide to eat there. Adam never washes his hands, and the other kitchen employees are afraid to speak up because they don’t want to be fired for speaking up.

On my Thursday 9pm visit in mid-December, it was the emptiest Ive ever seen the bar, but no matter, JW Williams and his band still performed with great passion and soul.Got a bucket of 5 Old Styles for $17 to enjoy the show with friends. After his set was done they switched stages and everyone moved to the other side to watch another band perform. My friend was not very happy that we had to move to the other side but I guess thats how they split up the performances. We ordered the ribs and although Im not into ribs these were actually really good. The drinks were reasonably priced. This place has unfortunately lost its charm. It’s now a tourist bar for people looking to check Chicago blues off their sightseeing list. Kingston Mines is just about the perfect concert venue. Got there on a Sat night at 11:00 PM, minimal line and no ticket - paid 20 bucks and I was good to go. The live music rivals the quality of what Ive seen in Nashville. The music the performers play is Blues - its incredible. You think Blues is all sad songs or whatever? Nope! Its lively, fun, and never ever boring. You can stand ~20 feet from phenomenal singers/guitar players/drummers if you stand in the pit. Crazy! Seating is plentiful but can be hard to come by around prime time (like 11 pm-ish I think). There are at least 4-5 regulars (I assume) that I saw and I fully understand why.Now lets talk food. Ordered shrimp poboy special and 10 jerk wings at 1:00 AM. Food took 20 mins, so reasonable for that hour, and not too pricey ($32 with a good tip I think). Sandwich was 4/5, yum but needed more sauce. Wings were 5/5, the best Ive had in Chicago to date and honestly maybe in my life (!). Head chef is a super friendly dude who likely has proper culinary school training. While I was there, security had to deal with an unruly patron. They were courteous, but firm, and dealt with the situation quickly and appropriately. Honestly was so impressed that it improved (? crazy, i know) my experience. This place is a GEM. A gem. An institution. Iconic. You must go. Dont think. Buy a ticket. Send it. Its 20 dollars. You will not regret it if you like live music and/or want a bite of good Southern-style cooking. I promise!!!

It is a great place for watching live blues and enjoy a night out.The club has two stages for bands/singers, in addition to a smaller room at the back to get snacks and take a quick break. Additionally the bar has a good selection of beers and drinks, with some seasonal varieties and combos. The main stage has a dancing floor in front of it in addition to sets of tables that still have a good view of the performers. Performances happen all night long switching from one stage to another -- so the performers are not competing for your attention --, and the quality of sound is excellent on both.Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Chicago area and want to enjoy live music.

I used to frequent Kingston Mines between 2000-2010. It was my favorite place in the city; amazing music with true blues lovers in the crowd...I am disappointed to come back for a visit only to find out its been overtaken by college students. (Students who come from private univeristies who also dont have to pay a cover charge, unlike the $20 everyone else has to pay.) The swarm of students have taken over so much you cant see the stage (even though we arrived early so we would get a good seat) and the music is muffled by the sounds of them talking and recording videos. What a shame for us true blues lovers (again, the ones that pay a cover), who as a result, had to leave after just the first round of music. It was such a disappointment compared to what the place once was... I also wonder if management is following the fire code with the amount of students they let in.

You can get there early for a good seat, but you don’t have to because the music (and people) move between two separate stages, which gives you a chance to shuffle around, and once it gets really busy, the dance floor area is full and you can’t see that well from your seats anyway. The staff is great too (but the kitchen is a little slow when it’s really busy).Highly highly recommended. Classic Chicago night out.
