There was a 25% auto gratuity added onto my massage. The auto gratuity was not mentioned (at the time of my service or this review) on the website, when I went to book, etc. The massage was average and wasn’t very customized to my needs after mentioning what I was looking for. The spa attendant was wonderful. I really would have expected this to be listed somewhere on the website, or when I spoke to them on the phone when booking or confirming.
This was our first time using this service and had no expectations. Everything was nice until we were sitting at the front desk afterward. We were staying in the hotel and left our wallets upstairs but purchased our services online. The lady required us to verify the last four digits of the credit card used. I had to go upstairs and back down to let her know. She also explained that the $93 “service charge” on a $375 bill is gratuity. A whole day later, this does not sit right. Not only is gratuity supposed to be an extra gift, but no where in their pricing does it explain that we pay a required service charge. What’s it for? How do we even know that the staff gets it? For that shady business, I believe 2 stars is appropriate.Update**Upon further review, I read the fine print online which refers to a non-discretionary 25% service fee. If I would have seen this hidden fee, we probably wouldn’t have even booked here. Seems really scammy and greedy.
Booked the couples Luxe experience as a surprise for my SOs birthday. We had a fantastic time! The spa attendants and masseuses were wonderful and my SO loved the experience. If you book a service here you get access to all the spa facilities and the gym which is an added perk. We would come back here again.
Disclaimer: this review is about the JW Spa Gym and not about the spa services.I have been a member of this fine establishment for almost 2 years so I know a thing or two about this place. If you are a commuter downtown and looking for a convenient, super clean 5 star facility then you have come to the right place.Benefits:- the gym has both free weights and machines along with ample cardio equipment.- there is a yoga studio that also holds complimentary fitness classes. The schedule for the spa is emailed every weekend.- the indoor pool is small but almost always empty given this hotel caters mostly to the business types.- the bathroom is the spa bathroom so a lot cleaner than a regular gym with shaving amenities, hair spray, hot towels etc.- complimentary fruits( apples and bananas) as well as water bottles are provided.- you usually have a lot of room, peace and quiet during non peek hours.- you get your own personal locker with a code so can leave your stuff there.- you get a discount for Spa services as a member.- hot Sauna and steam rooms are included.Cons:- I could have potentially taken a star out given the gym can get pretty busy during peek hours (early morning, after 5 and during lunch times) because this facility is also used by hotel guests. This however, does not mean that the bathrooms would be full given the hotel guests dont tend to use those facilities.Im paying $89 per month and received a discount on my initiation when I mentioned that I work across the street. This is truly a hidden gym with a great value in the heart of downtown Chicago.
The spa at Marriott Chicago offers a serene escape with skilled therapists, diverse treatments, and attentive service. Ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation in the heart of the city. I highly recommend it!
Booked 80 minute deep tissue couples massage. Therapists decided to take it easy providing moderate pressure and wasting time with a 20 minute scalp massage that was annoying. Why offer and charge for a deep tissue when you are providing a Swedish 60 minute with a 20 minute relax time out session for the therapist. Spa attendants were excellent. Deep clean the hot tub! Waste of time and money!
Its such a Beautiful Spa...i enjoyed all of the amenities except the pool I didnt get to that and by the time I did there were a number of kids which was fine I went right back into the relaxation room. The front desk staff of the Spa were amazing and Patricia checked on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. The next time I return I will definitely book a service
Review is for the Spa only. Staff are great. Per older Google reviews the saunas are hardly even warm, definitely not hot. Steam room was just about ok.Hot tub needs a good clean.Certainly not 4 or 5 star facilities.
No one to greet us at the front lobby. Waited 9 minutes before I called and someone answered and came out from the back. Facilities were fine. Sauna and steam room were off and had to wait to heat up. My appointment was scheduled with a female and I ended up with a male massage therapist so I didn’t have to come another time. The massage was okay. Not great. Not terrible. When I got done I ask my husband if his massage therapist had put a wash cloth over his eyes when he rolled onto his back he said yes. Mine did not. I asked if she had brought his robe and laid it on the end of the massage table and put his slippers next to it like they typically do. He said yes. Mine did not. All those little things contributed to a disappointing overall experience. The staff comped us two glasses of champagne but the overall experience was certainly not what you’d expect. Especially for the cost.
Loved my experience in the spa! Everything was so clean and I felt so pampered. I loved using the sauna and steam room after my massage. The massage therapist I had was amazing. Jessica delivered an excellent deep tissue massage and made me feel so comfortable and cared for. I walked out feeling like jello! But in a good way :) I liked it so much I came back the next day and asked for her specifically. Talk about a wonderful pampering experience! Also Marla at the front desk greeted me with a smile and kind nature every time I spoke with her. I would come back to the hotel just for the spa! Thank you for helping this busy mom unwind and relax this weekend.
Amazing experience. We took the couple massages and was the most relaxing I could ask for. Christina my masseuse was the best ❤️ The staff was really caring. After the massage we stayed at the sauna and the hot tub. Highly recommended
Just finished an 80 min couples massage experience. First, the facility is nice what you would expect from the JW. Jamie was my masseuse, she was excellent. The best I’ve experienced. Very aware of sore spots and just overall excellent. My wife’s masseuse was great as well!
Diamond gave a fabulous massage! She was attentive to feedback and helped work out some tough spots. Good experience and will definitely try to book with her again.
We were greeted immediately by a kind receptionists at the front desk and taken back to the locker room upon arrival. After changing we were given a quick tour the facilities and then taken to the waiting lounge. The massage was amazing! I had a deep tissue massage with a CBD treatment. Afterwards we were allowed to use their spa and sauna which were very clean! We got ready to go back to our room feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and recharged!
For the price and JW Marriott name this spa misses the mark. Came here with some friends for a ladies spa day. Between the 4 of us, we got about 10 different treatments (massages/wraps/facials, etc). I came directly after a hard 3 hr training session so was feeling some tightness in my calves and lower back. Told the masseuse more/heavier pressure was fine, however, she didnt really focus on relieving any knots at all. Left the massage not feeling any better than before and thinking of going somewhere else later this week to get the knots out. Other friends who had Male masseuses said theirs were very good so maybe I just need to choose a different massage. My friend, who got a facial, had several extractions that were brought only to the surface and not actually extracted so she had a lot of red spot swelling afterwards. To get to the hot tub and pool you have to walk through the hotel gym, which felt odd. Also, the steam room had no aromatics so it smelled like a wet towel. They dont keep their wet hand towels refrigerated or scented it so arent really refreshing. Ive been to other Marriott hotel spas and was disappointed with this experience.
We had a great spa day. I came with two friends. We ordered Rose and enjoyed the transition room before and after our services. I had Jorge give me an amazing deep tissue massage. He focused on the areas I needed and I left the room so relaxed. He made me comfortable and I will be seeing him on my future visits to Chicago. Thanks JW Marriott Spa. You guys treated us so well!
Underwhelming experience to say the least. Our Couples Journey (Body scrub & Massage) was good! I heard my partners massage therapist check in with him throughout the massage as to how the pressure was ect. Unfortunately, My massage therapist did not. My massage therapist also performed my facial. When paying $160 for a facial, I expect some sort of hand & arm massage as well as sunscreen and chapstick as finishing touches as most spas will do. I would have loved to receive some kind of special upgrade with Eminence as I love the products and recently met the president of the company. No upgrade was offered and no product recommendations. There were no consent forms and really no consultation for my massage or facial. The nail tech whom did my manicure continously fidgeted with her face mask bringing it below her nose, under chin, taking it off all together and kept touching her face. I left with nail polish on my fingers (above and below my nails). I left feeling regretful as I was really looking forward to having a great experience with my partner and did not want to ruin his experience. I was not made aware when booking over the phone of the 25% added gratuity, I honestly kind of felt like we were scammed out of $1200. In conclusion, I had high expectations from JW Marriot spa and there is definitely room for improvement.
Had the couples luxe massage (champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, tub, the whole shabang) and loved every moment. Definitely recommend for you and your partner. Quality was spectacular - infrared sauna was a nice bonus afterwards. Just be wary of their new hours :)
I had a great experience with my treatment at the JW spa. It was super relaxing, my masseuse did an amazing job and I will most certainly go back. Also person preference, but I really liked the almonds in the transition lounge.
Amazing experience. I would highly recommend. Their attention to detail is very impressive. From the time you get to the front desk the staff take care of your every need. The service providers are very professional and enjoy what they do.
I know exactly what youre thinking. This place has *only* 4.2 stars. There are other spas rated 4.5 stars and higher. Why go to this one The ratings depend on the service.Ive only been here for the Hammam Experience and rate it 5 stars for both times. I had the experience in 2013 and since then the Spa stopped offering it. I checked the Spas service menu every few months for updates. Lo and behold, they finally offer it again in 2022. Yes, I waited 9 years to have a Turkish bath. Its expensive, no doubt about it. 50 minutes? Thats not a lot of time! Trust me, you dont want to be scrubbed for more than an hour. Time dilates when youre in a dark room with a fireplace on a heated marble table with foam all over. For me, it didnt feel like 50 minutes. 50 minutes is all you really need.Whats a Turkish bath? You are missing OUT if you havent had one. Wiki Turkish bath because Im not gonna describe it. The article does it better. Its absolute *indulgence*. I have a modest income but I like to treat myself once in a while. I work hard, yadda, yadda. You deserve pampering and getting away from the world. Take care of YOURSELF.None of that was about the actual Turkish bath. Sorry. If youre BORED of massages, body wraps, and back treatments, try the Hammam Experience. If you want to feel like a queen, try the Hammam Experience. If you want to try something new in life, try the Hammam Experience. If you have aquaphobia, the Hammam Experience is not for you.Bonus: You can hang out in their spa. It has a steam room and sauna.Note: I might be hyping the Turkish bath too much. For me, its a very unique massage experience that cant be found anywhere due to the specialized facilities. (Does your local spa have heated marble tables with a faucet nearby? I didnt think so.)
The spa manicure $50 doesnt include remove my original gel polish. I was surprised to get extra $20 charge after service. Most of time spending is to remove my original gel polish. The hand message is less than 2 mins, I dont why this called spa manicure.
I came in for the lunch time pilates class & everything was great! The check in was quick and easy, the preparation lounge was nice with self set combination lockers and class itself was a great mat pilates workout! Noelia was great with instructions and very attentive during the class! The infused water on the way out was also very refreshing! Ill definitely be back!
Luxury spa and great services. I got a massage and everything from the waiting room to the room where I received my massage was comfortable, soothing and extremely relaxing.Best massage I have received in Chicago. Highly recommend.
Not very nice at all. Towels all over the floor. Not enough people to clean. It’s old and smells old. Will not return. Massage was very good but amenities are not very nice. Also I am a ambassador level at Marriott.
Great massage and great spa! The pool and jacuzzi area were phenomenal and the massage was truly a great time. Highly recommend!
Love coming to this spa. Great service and always have an amazing experience.
Spa was lovely, very relaxing. Staff were so polite and accommodating.Did find it very expensive though, felt overpriced.
