We attended the Saturday evening showcase. This spot is one of the best jazz spots I’ve ever visited. The atmosphere and the vibes were amazing. This place is cozy and romantic fora date night. The musicians were phenomenal!!! This place just gave me the best feeling. I would recommend buying tickets in advance since the shows tend to sell out fast. Will be back.

Very cool and famous place for jazz enthusiasts. Not the biggest place but it gets packed with serious crowd. Large bar area next to the entrance offering pretty good deink menu. No food is available but I was told you can bring your own bite to eat. Bought tickets for a Valentines Day concert for Dee Alexander and McLean duo project. It turned out to be a great night. Unbelieveable performance by everyone on the stage. This place is definetely on my list for other, future jazz concerts.

I attended a Marquis Hill show here in the new year. My first time at this venue. The cocktails and wine were fine, decent selection and pricing. Service was fine too. Its the atmosphere and vibe that make Jazz Showcase really special. Lots of small tables and low lights. The mixed, international crowd is attentive to the music but not stuffy. Jazz royal history on display in photos on the wall. Great stage and sound. A classic jazz club experience. If you love jazz music you have to stop in here.

We didnt get to experience this place in the end. I called to find out what their cover charge was and found out it was a free night. We were visiting from out of town and this place was within walking distance of our hotel. The hours online were listed as being open until 2am.We got there around 8:30pm, music was said to start at 7:30pm. The doors were locked. We walked all the way around the building, thinking we had just tried the wrong door. No other door was open, so I called, and they told me they were closed already. I was really bummed...this place looks dope! The lighting inside looked really nice.

This was the second of 2 live music venues I visited the same night. Its true what other reviews say and that there really are no bad seats, that said we still went for the cup seats and were seated steps away from the stage with a perfect view of the entire quartet. Drinks were a bit on the pricier side compared to other places but the atmosphere and acoustics in the place were awesome.

Ive gone to the jazz showcase twice now. I really enjoy the atmosphere. The drinks are reasonable about $10 to $15. I watched the bartender and she was really good and she knew how to mix a good drink. I went on a Friday and saw Alexander and McClain play, they did a wonderful job. It cost about $60 for two people bc I paid online. You can pay at the door if they have room. I definitely would recommend.

A historical place for jazz musicians that has been there since 1947, we were privileged to attend the show with our family as part of the jazz ensemble event hosted by our middle school in which our younger son is a Bari Saxophonist.Theres a lot going on here and there is a wait between shows and the gentleman at the entrance makes sure you are not in the wrong show. The seating area is big and spread out with front seats marked as reserved but we did not see anyone else come in to take those seats. Theres ample room for standing if you are recording a show without the usual head bobbing. The stage itself is a bit cramped and overly small for our little band of musicians. There was a lot of arranging and rearranging before everyone could settle in for the show.Theres no food service for the patrons but alcohol and other beverages are available. The sodas are pretty affordable and do not cost as much as other bars and restaurants.

This is the 3rd time this year weve seen shows at the club. Weve enjoyed all three featured artists. In a discussion afterwards my other two guests remarked that this artist, Isaac Collier, was almost too discordant for their taste, although at the end of the set they were getting into the freeplay between drummer and sax. The drummer was especially skilled at multiple rhythms and was quite the showman. We enjoyed overall, the exploratory rhythm and lead lines of this young, new band and will continue to patronize JS supporting up and coming talents like Mr Collier. Ty.

Really enjoyed live jazz here. We purchased the VIP seats but I dont think there is any bad seats here. Just try to be there little early and get front normal seats. Overall, very nice jazz place in Chicago.

The venue itself looks nice. So thats good. The drinks when you can get them are mediocre at best. Before the music starts an old guy gets up at babbles. Before the last note is finished an old guy gets up and babbles. They do get a lot of classic jazz guys in but more often than not it looks like a senior citizen center. For young and hip you need the Green Mill where the drinks are quick and strong and the cover is reasonable.

Heard some great Jazz here, so good in fact everyone wanted to see it that night too so it was really crowded and hard to get a drink. Otherwise Id give five stars. Come early enough you wont have to worry about that from your table. Also if you dont come there on time its like an old theatre style where you cant walk in during the music set. Once people start clapping theyll let you back in.

The music was great, but they overcharged me about $12 on my credit card. I was clearly stated the total amount including tips but after a couple of days I returned from Chicago I found theyve overcharged me. I think they assumed me as a naive foreigner, and purposely did that. Be careful!

I went in on a busy Saturday night and still got a seat at the bar - loved the experience. They will let you bring your own food in, so you can offset the big-city bar tab by bringing dinner along. So-so on the beer selection (bottles only, some imports and of course domestics, no craft beers though). Hard to find a bad seat in the house, some lounge sofas and tables, high top tables and bar seating as well. As a musician and avid music fan this the perfect sized venue, intimate and proper lighting (not too dark at all) with enough seats to create a crowd that i think Jazz music should be experienced in.

We saw Stefon Harris and Blackout last Friday night. The show was great, theres an adjacent parking lot. Parking is $5.00 after 6pm. The club is small and intimate and the talent is first rate. They dont sell food. Theres Bar Louie on the Dearborn Street side if you want to have dinner before your show.

I went here for a DePaul show and although the atmosphere and acoustics and bar is excellent, the service is a little lacking. The house manager was not very welcoming and because there was only one bar tender it was difficult to get a drink. In fact, another patron and I had to find a pitcher of water to pour ourselves. So, if you are just coming for the music, its a really cool *real Chicago jazz* venue.

Best place for serious jazz in the city. However, its a bit pricey, the owner is a tad curmudgeonly, and you cant get coffee there at night. I wish they were a little more customer friendly. But they have the best jazz so I guess that gets them through.

The Jazz Showcase is fabulous. Its a real jazz club where youreup close to the finest jazz in Chicago. The location is just where you expect; an old building on a dead end street. Parking is steps from the door at a reasonable rate. Joe greets you at the door & youre then taken in to an always fine show. If you like jazz dont miss this venue.

The Jazz Showcase is a world class venue where you can hear all the best that Jazz has to offer. The room has great sight lines and wonderful acoustics. Sit up close for a more intimate experience or hang in the back to take in the full scene! We enjoy every visit and look forward to many more. Keep the music alive - come to The Jazz Showcase!

Legendary jazz venue in Chicago. Big thanks to Joe Segal for keeping the jazz flame alive for decades. Great music. One of the few places in town that brings in top artists. They do lean a bit conservative with the music, but they have a passion for it and it shows. Support the Showcase and go when you can. Kids shows on Sundays are a great way to expose children to the music too.

So this, is the swankiest jazz club in the city. Dress up a little, you look good wearing a jacket. The acoustics are great, its not cramped, you can get your own table. A stop for some of the best touring jazz musicians in the country as they pass through town. Tickets for shows are well price, but be forewarned drinks are not (on the plus side however they are strong and well made).Go, take a date. But get food before you go, the neighborhood is low on options that match up to the quality of this joint.

The Jazz Show Case is not Joe Segal first club venture. He had a club on Clark Street called the Brown Shoe. I recall seeing Charles Mingus with a new alto sax player Charles Macferson for the first tiime. I will never forget because I stayed for the 2nd set and my car got locked up in the parking lot and i had to take a cab back to 82nd St and Cottage Grove.
