Soho

I would normally not give a bad review to a gay bar since I know we’re struggling, but this instance stood out. 5/26/24, we were having a good time at Soho and it starts heavily raining - heavily enough that the ceiling starts leaking. In of itself, not the end of the world, whatever. But, a second leak started that was falling literally on the barware; not just the exterior of the shakers, but also the strainers and other tools that directly touch the product going to the consumer. I attempted to bring this to the attention of a bartender and his response was (the gist), “yeah it leaks, we suggest you step away”. I specifically pointed out that the leak was falling on the barware and that was the response? It was pointed out to another bartender who did take action.

It’s like the gay cheers!! I can’t give it a five star because it’s not a place to hang if you get claustrophobic. However, it’s a really fun place to day drink! Everybody is chill, friendly, and if they aren’t already your friend, they will be by the time you leave.The staff are great and help maintain the upbeat vibe. Plus, it has a nice little patio to people watch while you get your buzz on.

I sat down and was insulted at first site by the staff. It was the most awkward restaurant hospitality first interaction I’ve ever had.

SOHO is the best. I’ve come here for years and they are awesome. Fantastic outdoor seating and some of the greatest service.

Love this place. This might be a smaller bar, but they have a front and back patio. They also make good drinks at a great price. I recently had to stop drinking, and they make amazing and creative mock tails. Staff is friendly as long as you are friendly. Treat them with respect, and they will return the same. Reminds me of a small hometown bar. I feel like family when I am enjoying my drink. If there is an issue. They address the issue quickly, too. You have a problem. Let them know. Can be rather busy some nights, but the bar staff work hard to try to service everyone as quickly as they can. I feel very comfortable being myself in this bar. Great customers also.

Jeremiah Glenn is an angry, messy drunk who gets confrontational when he gets cut off at bars. If you have the same experience at all the local bars, maybe youre the problem and not the bars.The Brown Baggers Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:30 at Affirmations. Do yourself a favor and seek help. You need it.His review USED to say it was irresponsible and unsafe for SOHO to make someone who was SO inebriated leave. What if something happened to him?? How dare they put someone SO UNSAFELY INTOXICATED on the street???How many times are you gonna change your story bro? You leave petty reviews for Pronto, too. Believe service workers!!

Soho is the place to be if you want quick and great service in a friendly, clean environment. Every single staff member from the bartenders to the bussers to the owners work really hard to make sure everyone is accommodated, and that the entire place, yes even the bathrooms, are clean, no matter how busy it is. They even go above and beyond by making sure everyone feels safe and comfortable. If there’s ever any issues, they take care of it right away. As long as you, and whoever you’re with know how to behave in public, they treat everyone equally. The portion of the drinks with the prices are really great as well. Literally, the only “flaw” to Soho is that they are always so busy and packed because of how great the bar is. Every other bar on 9mile and even all of Ferndale is never as busy as Soho. It’s always great energy and good times!

Soho is the best! I love my community ❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️. The bartenders, management, all top notch. Such an amazing group of friends Ive come to know. Id definitely be considered a regular here. My favorite bar in Ferndale! 5 stars!

This is my favorite bar to go to every weekend. Great drinks, cool vibes, outdoor patios, and the best service! Management also goes above and beyond for the customers AND employees! Highly recommended

Soho turned me away because my ID was expired (I’m 25) Its literally my birthday month. My new ID hasn’t came in the mail yet. But I watch them let “other” ppl in, with no ID completely. I thought ID was to check age. I didn’t know they was the Secretary of State. But looking at these reviews I won’t be back. I advise anyone reading NOT GO HERE. It a very small building catered to a certain group of ppl. Not diverse. Very rude. Overpriced. Not clean

This service review is only for the bartender that waited on me and my friends on 8/21/23 at approx 9pm. Server/ Bartender to bartender— he was absolutely rude, obnoxious, and the worst service I have ever gotten from this establishment. And not to mention— He was rude and obnoxious AFTER I paid for my drinks and tipped him. otherwise this is my favorite bar in ferndale!!!! always a good time and great atmosphere :)

I’m proud to call this my home bar!i’ve never been a bar kind of person- but once i finally gave soho a chance, it quickly changed that!with a strong acceptance of all and a wonderful community of people, soho is a great place to hang and connect with lovely open minded folk of all kind. yes it’s a “gay bar”, but don’t let that stop you from coming in! all walks of life are celebrated and welcomed here🥰😄tuesday karaokes are my favorite day to come- shout out to keelah the host! xoxo😘😻management and staff are great too, shout out to all of the wonderful vibes y’all cultivate through your hard work! it’s appreciated on so many levels.when there is food, it’s great! but sadly no food is being served at the moment. sometimes they pair with local kitchens to offer food options! i’m hoping they do that again very soon😁

The bartender with the short brown hair and lip piercing on the right side of her face was very rude and racist. She profiled my cousin referring to her as “that girl” and talking about her to other customers and workers. She served our white friend with no problem until my cousin asked her politely if she had any animosity towards her and said her (bartender’s)demeanor was coming off hostile and racist. Instead of being professional the bartender stormed off telling everyone my cousin attacked her and was yelling at her. The bartender with the beard was kind and professional and assured my cousin she was safe to enjoy the bar. When our white friend tried to talk to the girl bartender the bartender broke a glass and got angry and other customers began to gang up on our friend. The girl bartender then called the cops and they put our friend in handcuffs. One would think in 2023 and that the lgbtq community would be more welcoming and inclusive but I guess black people will always be hated. Unfortunately we will never go back but I warn people of color to be careful.

Soho is the best neighborhood gay bar! We love frequenting here, staff is wonderful and treats us all like family! Karaoke on Sunday and Tuesday nights are always a blast - and they host awesome parties at 215W next door as well. Definitely recommend checking it out!

I this place its one of the best spots I have been here Detroit also since is also LGBTQ friendly. I just had a little incident with my jacket and somebody took it by mistake but they return it next day. Also, the manager is was very helpful and understanding. I would recommend this to everyone that could come here to Detroit.

Fun, friendly and welcoming space with super cool bartenders. Soho can get pretty busy on peak nights and Ferndale would benefit from probably having at least one more gay bar on the 9 Mile block, but its fun no matter how crowded it is. I recommend coming during off-peak hours and enjoying a relaxing drink in the urban atmosphere.

I was here for the first time Saturday night. As a non-binary person, it was AMAZING coming to a new place dressed femme af and being instantly welcomed! The bar staff was SO kind and generous. The patrons were friendly, fun and the vibe was RIGHT! Loved the whole experience. 10/10 would come back!!

It was ok. Bartender didnt have much of a personality. To many regulars.the bartender needs to be more friendly. Its new customers that keep you growing. Regulars are fine but it new people thats good. Because as someone just moved here from Lansing area I felt uncomfortable. Because it seemed geared toward the regulars

Never had a bad experience here. Always a great time. Friendly staff and great music/atmosphere. Every time I visit while in town I have a great time. If you’re not having fun, maybe it’s you.

Cant rate food. Didnt eat there. People r friendly & bartender knows when to cut off the drunks. Keeps everyone safe ❤️

Soho is a great bar for the local LGBTQ community in Metro Detroit. I always feel welcomed, the management and staff are awesome, and it’s a great place to meet people and make new friends. I totally recommend this establishment!

This establishment is absolutely horrible . My friend was referred to as “that girl “” and she is a fully grown black woman !!! The police was called on her and her friends and she is the kindest person you could ever meet !

Ive been going here on and off (mostly for karaoke) for about 10 years now. Ive never reviewed it because I couldnt give 5 stars since I had a big gripe about it that has now been rectified! So here is my 5 star review.My problem WAS that it was a small bar and the karaoke set up made it difficult for singers to be heard and it was a little uncomfortable singing with people almost bumping into you. They did the best with the space they had. Also, despite karaoke driving the crowds there, half the people drinking didnt like karaoke and would rarely clap for people. BUUUUUT they bought the place next door and now they have ample room for karaoke and its only filled with people singing or who enjoy it so the crowd is much friendlier to singers. It does feel a little different of a mood, but I dont think its a bad thing.

This place is definitely geared more towards the regulars. Didnt feel comfortable here at all. Felt very out of place which is weird considering how much this place advertises how they are LGBTQIA+ friendly. In a town where its supposedly progressive its strange that I a black queer guy feel out of place here. I ask for a drink I get this dry, cold, dismissive disposition from most of the bartenders. Then when they tend to someone else their whole disposition changes to friendly and warm. Especially if its a regular or a white dude or trans who is a part of the community. If youre not white and not from ferndale or at least look like you are you will be treated funny. One Lady whose name I didnt get but had long brown hair was very kind and helpful.I couldve stayed home got drunk by myself and wouldve had a better time than being here. Ive heard stories about how rude this place can be but sheesh. Literally saw some lady come in waited at the bar and left without getting served after waiting for like 20 minutes while the bartenders are hanging out with these group of guys at the bar towards the front.If youre not white, or look straight this this place isnt welcoming. Ever seen a movie where the outsider comes to a saloon or bar and everybody stops and stares at the outsider then treats that person all strange. Being dry and stank acting? Thats this place......

Nothing special, but nice mixed crowd. Good location. Has a small outdoor area, too. Inside did not have the usual bar smell, which is a good thing.

I ordered a Tom Collins, bartender said John Collins in confirmation, which I should have taken as a bad sign. John Collins is apparently a drink, but I know it as the name of the Michigan Murderer... Im a bartender, and I have very low expectations of service (bc of how poorly service industry workers are treated, etc.) but the fruit was so dry that no juice came out of it (both the lemons and the limes), and my Tom Collins gave me heartburn while drinking it, and diarrhea the next morning. The dust bunnies looked older than me, and everyone in the establishment looked suicidal. Overall, disappointing. My first and last time here.

Great bar with great bartenders and even better vibes. Pool table is there which is not common anymore. Dog friendly patio. Affordable drinks especially compared to the rest of the area. I go to Soho wayyy more than I should and Im not ashamed.

Tolley is always friendly and gives exceptional service. He always remembers my drink order.... Even-though I don’t get out as much as I’d like. Always someone we to talk to.... or a dark corner to sit in (depending on my mood). Great restaurant next door. Definitely recommend 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Nice small bar for drinks and pool only but theres no food and dont put money in the jukebox you want ever hear your song they have it set to take money but not play your song. I picked 2 songs at 10pm its now 12:30 am my songs never played and its only 10 people hear that came in the bar after me.

Just discovered this place and visited for the first time yesterday! The staff was super welcoming, atmosphere was amazing, and the drinks were awesome. I stayed all night & I definitely plan on coming back!

This is the best place to go in Ferndale.I had so much fun, and I cant imagine it being any different next time. Claire, Erin, Caleb, and Jeremy were amazing; I wouldnt have traded tonight for anything!If youre not stopping at Soho, youre doing it wrong. This bar should definitely be your first and last stop; itll always be the right choice!

Service here is always amazing. Love the bartenders. We did get a little straight shame vibes for comming to support our lgb friends. Didnt stop us from having a good time.

Great little place with free pool, cheap drinks, a juke box, and kareoke on Sundays thats always a blast. There are also a lot of seats and tables plus patio seating so its easy to hang out with friends.

The atmosphere was very nice. Friendly patrons and the bar tender was great ! When Im near Detroit I will go back

Sat at the bar for 10 minutes patiently waited for the bartender to acknowledge us. I know it was Cinco de myao, however there were only 8 people in the bar. After waiting, left when 3 people walk up right next to me and were served without even a head tilt to let me know he saw me. Bad service, wonder how much money they lose when they are busy

My friends and I come here almost every Sunday night to sing karaoke, I absolutely love the atmosphere. We usually get a table in the back so that we can also work on our homework.

Soho is my favorite neighborhood bar in Ferndale. The bartenders are great and the atmosphere is always 100.

Pretty chill bar. Ive only been here twice and both times have been pretty nice. Wish the music was a little better but other than that i will come back any time im back home reminds me of a bar back in grand rapids

First experience at this establishment and I was not impressed. The atmosphere was pleasant and the crowd seemed nice, however the service was very poor. The server did not put the customer first and the drinks were very poorly made.

They operate off a jukebox that NEVER plays the song you PAID FOR and tells you it’s out of their control after consuming your money. It’s giving hire a DJ el cheap I’d😑🙄
