This was actually a surprising fun dive bar to spend time at with a great mix of locals, tourists, young, and old.The servers were very friendly and attentive.The karaoke was awesome and super fun. We ended up staying at this bar for about six hours and singing three different songs!We did not have any food so I cannot provide a rating for that.

I was there early one Sunday morning, dont judge. What you see is what you get. Great service.

Rolled into this place last Saturday evening. Was quickly handed a Coors Light by a smoking hot bartender. Ten minutes later some chubby older guy with glasses, I think his name started with an S, said hey Cowboy wanna do a shot”? I said no but SIX came my way anyhow. A few minutes later I was taking a whizz out back in the “should have paid” parking lot when a very friendly gentleman sitting on a bench asked if I wanted a hit. I said No but he was Damn Persuasive.. so two hours and some time space travel later I was back inside the bar, then some green haired chick with a lazy eye asked if I was single. I said No I have a girlfriend. Then all of a sudden three more shots from that S fella arrived. It was at this moment Karaoke started and I hit my evening stride with a sweet rendition of Welcome to the Jungle. It was at this point the three hot dogs I had earlier decided to make a surprise appearance. Luckily I made it to the biggest restroom I’ve ever seen in a bar! Thank God though because after puking I had plenty of space to lay on the cool floor and let things settle before catching a second wind and going back to find that S guy. On the way back to the bar I was stopped by a local who said I looked a little out of sorts and recommended I take a bus home. So I went back to my seat and had two more and tabbed out. That’s all I can remember. Also I can’t get this green haired chick to leave my house, I offered to let her have my bus I have now, but she won’t budge off my sofa and keeps insisting we’re engaged…..

We stopped by here for an afternoon drink while we were exploring Golden and we are glad we did. Great bartender, fat pours, awesome little dive bar ambiance, diverse crowd, and located right downtown. We each had a beer and a cocktail and everything was perfect. We are going back to Golden soon and this will be on our list of places to re-visit for sure.

Walked in with a fundraiser tonight an obviously over poured and intoxicated gentleman at the bar asked what was wrong with me and shoved me because I must look gay. No one did a darn thing, but three women stood up to protect me and the drunken man attempted to get to his feet to begin a fist fight. Golden, you’re not gay friendly. Happy to make tonight newsworthy! You never know who works where and who you choose to battle with at the most undeserving of times. For the business, I’m happy to put you on blast. I wasn’t the only one bashed tonight. Good luck.

An amazing spot on Washington Ave, which closes at 2am! Haven’t tried the food, but everything else is great. The bartender was friendly and the place is so cozy

This is one of the few bars that is open late in Golden so we had planned to bring some of our guests here for the after party to our wedding. About 7 months before our wedding, we reached out via facebook messenger to get an idea of whether it would be a good idea to have our after party at the bar. They said it should be fine and to remind them a couple of weeks beforehand so they could properly staff the bar. I did touch base with them a month before our wedding, and again, they assured us it would be fine to bring all of our guests. When we arrived at the bar for our after party, the bouncer had no idea who we were, and the bar was absolutely packed. This was a Saturday night, so I think they could have easily predicted that theyd be crowded that night and they could have told us that with our number of guests it might not be a good idea to bring everyone. It seemed like the bar did not do anything at all to prepare for the number of guests wed be bringing and we had to scramble to find somewhere else to go with our guests.

Became our new local for 3 months whilst visitingI cant say enough about the amazing, fun, Nutty staff, they are truly fabulous ❤️drinks are great, everyone is so friendly. Were from the UK they made us feel right at home.Karaoke is a must with DJ Amy Love! Saturdays are the best nights and we will miss them so much!!! Dope vibe, yellow jacket on tap (obviously) and great staff. Hannah was great and music was awesome. Laid back patrons and cool dark lighting. Exactly what you’d want from a place called “Ace-Hi”. Recommend coming in for a cold one

This review is in regards to karaoke nights at ace high. Because if you want to sing, beware of ‘dj amy’ because she will continue to push you to back the back of the line and take bribes from drunk people to sing sooner. overheard her tell someone 200$ to sing next and it was honestly sad because they seemed pretty out of it. this would be okay with me if it was advertised that it was pay to sing, but that is not the case.

Honestly, its a bar. But I do know that good and smart help is hard to find right now. I dont know how the back door guy was taught to do his job. But I do believe that some functional communication training would help him out greatly. I cant tell you how aggressive this human is because itll get taken down. But I would say steer clear until they fix the pressing issue of this human. Its not safe, and there are other dive bars in golden.

Whats not to love about a plain old bar. Recommended by a local as Goldens dive bar and it didnt disappoint.

I’m a local dentist for 20 years in this area and I believe the Ace is one of the coolest dive bars this side of Kansas! The vibe is perfect. The staff are super low key and way cool. I pray to God this place never goes away because it is vintage perfect! It’s packed every weekend and it kind of gives you the feel that you are on vacation every time you walk through the door!! Worst thing about this place is how the back door bouncer posts up next to the pool table. I was physically stopped after taking a leak and asked for my ID while I had still had half a beer at the bar waiting for me. But thats just a quirk, this is still a 5 star dive operating in a zone that needs it. Amongst all the $12 shots and $8 beers on Wash Ave you can still find correctly priced booze with an atmosphere to match.

This was the first time that I came to Ace-Hi Tavern we went on a Friday night and we caught happy hour and it was a karaoke night first time I ever did karaoke and I loved it I would go back very nice people I would recommend this place

Small, old west style bar. About 8 booths and bar seating for 20 people. There is one pool table, darts, and a jukebox. Cheapest pitchers of beer Ive seen. Karaoke is very popular here. Typically only one bartender so service can be slow when busy, but they work hard to get drinks for you quickly

They definitely have enough room to expand the size of the bar. The place did have a nice vibe to it and a pitcher of Coors for $9 is an okay deal. Over all, not bad! They have the typical bar games that you would expect and most importantly the music wasnt blaring extremely loudly unlike some other places.

I enjoyed the ambiance and bohemian joie de vivre when I visited this gem in July this year. The mixologist recommended a whole pitcher of the delightful local micro brew (Coors Banquet, I believe it was called) and later, some simple but flavorful cocktails called shots. We couldnt help but feel welcome among the much younger patronage, and before we knew it, we were participating in a local custom which involved singing and dancing along to traditional folk songs reflecting the color and vibrancy of a bygone era. Our favorite was called Colt 45 by an artist called Afroman, which the wife and I sang in joyful reverie to cheers and applause. We will never forget out lovely evening at the Ace!

Lisa John the bartender and her bartner ( I didnt catch her name), were absolutely amazing! Love this place, as a Colorado native, this place is a gem!

If you’re a woman, skip this place. An old man hit on me and my friends. I told him three times respectfully to leave us alone, he continued to bother us. I told the establishment, they chose to do nothing.

I enjoyed myself. If you are on the strip in Golden Id recommend Ace-Hi. The establishment is not inundated with engineering students and the happy hour specials are generous. I dont know if Id take a date here unless you were planning on an early exit but a convenient location makes this venue a must visit.

This place is an absolute mess. I went with a group of friends after dinner to have a drink for my birthday and upon my arrival, we heard the woman working the floor say to the lady organizing karaoke (who was so sweet) that she was expecting a wild group due to weddings and pub crawls around. Neither of which we attended but we thought it was odd. There were people asleep in booths near us and one guy offered me drugs since it was my birthday (no shame just trying to paint a picture of the atmosphere). It was crowded and my husband was cut off. We still aren’t sure why since he was calm and there were so many other people around visibly more intoxicated and when we asked, they couldn’t give us a reason why. From our first moment stepping in, we felt singled out and as if they were “watching us” perhaps bc we were dressed nice after attending a dinner. The staff is incredibly rude and they have serious problems with discrimination. The woman working the floor was an older brunette with visibly grey hair but we didn’t catch her name. I only call this out Bc I hope management sees this and is able to provide some guidance on how to appropriately tend to guest. While we were waiting for our lyft (bc we are responsible adults who don’t drink and drive) they stood outside and stared us down. We were literally sitting on a bench minding our own business. This was no doubt a targeted experience. Please choose to go anywhere else but here.

Nobody monitors the pool tables. There is more chaos back there than you would expect. Nobody goes by the pool playing rules. The players think they are real pool players but yet they dont know the rules!! Shut that pool playing down!@ If you dont monitor the area then dont offer open pool playing. The male waiter is a looser!! REALLY?? Are you guys hard up??? The guy is buddies with the biggest the pool cheat in town. He rides on the guys coat tails!!!!!! We will not come back. Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!

Our group stopped in as they boasted having the best bloody marys in Golden. Staff was pleasant but it was the worst bloody mary we have had. Not much for condiments in the beverage tiny pickle and olives. Really disappointed 😞!

Best bar in Golden. I love that it opens at 7am. I get off work at 6am and shes always how I want a bar to be at 7 am. Good ol Coors boys and just the perfect dive to grab a cold Banquet. If you are here to post a negative review go ahead and play jazz on the juke box. We keep it on there to profile people.

Its honestly not my kind of dive bar but it is friendly the booze flows freely. The folks that come here all seem to know each other. We went on a Friday evening and were treated to karaoke of the most unusual sort. I didnt know that metallica karaoke was a thing. So if you like your dive bars local and you like cheap booze and you can sing along with metallica this is the place for you!!

I am from Fort Lauderdale and just moved here 3 weeks ago. I drove up to Golden today to check it out and try to get a job and let me tell you I found this place and had a blast. The customers Mike, Duncan and Roy where great its my kind of place. Bonnie the bartender was so friendly and so nice. This is my kind of place to work. Thank you everyone. I will be back up there for sure. Wish I was working there. Golden Colorado is awesome. Everyone must go to Ace- Hi Tavern they make you feel like your home.

Best dive in the foothills! I love dropping by to watch people sing karaoke, the people watching is always fantastic. You will walk in sober and leave twisted. Make sure to Uber!The Hanoi Jane stickers in the urinals are the cherry on top. If you come to Golden you’ve got to go to the Ace. The bartenders are friendly and frisky always a good time.

Only bar at night around here it would seem. Chill crowd on a Tuesday. Lots of people seem to be drinking drinks with Titos which is interesting but whatever lol

Simply the best! Cheap pitchers make for a good time here every time. There are a lot of fun events throughout the week and their happy hour is long plus there are 2 of them. Pool table, juke box and a huge mural of Colorado are my other favorite features.

Fun, narrow dive bar in Golden. Had a funny experience. They had a roll a die and get a random free drink/shot special. So I order it, server brings me the drink, and then realizes I need to roll the dice... I already had the die though. Either she is a magician or a psychic.

I have been to this amazing establishment many times with great results until tonight. This is the first night I have had the privilege of having Bonnie theBoss as our bartender. Not only was she rude from the moment she arrived but she over charged us double what it should have cost us. I argued but she blamed me the drunk as she called me. Im a regular but not one of hers I guess. Patrons beware.

Stopped here on Fat Tuesday and paid normal back-home beer prices. The bartender was really friendly and so were the patrons. Nothing fancy here, but we were glad we stopped in!

Been coming here for years and my Grandma went to the Ace in the 70s when we moved to Golden. Its a local relic. One pool table, karaoke on Thursday through Saturday, one long bar, and awesome employees who have worked at the Ace for decades. The place truly is a church to many local residents. They have microwaved hot dogs and bags of chips if youre hungry. If you want a fancy place, get out of Golden. The Ace Hi is what it is. Take it or leave it, but never complain.

Classic dive bar and the best in Downtown Golden. Not kid friendly but you could very easily park your car in front of the bar and crack your windows. Outdoor seating means you can see your kids in the car while you drink.

I had to check out this Best of... Colorado dive bars. What a treat to find right here in Golden CO, so close to home. The bartender and regulars are staples and are always ready to welcome a new face.

This place is awesome! Jody was great and the atmosphere was really fun! Great drinks and entertainment. We visited twice during our stay and always hung around longer than expected. The locals were very kind and friendly.

The behavior by staff here is appalling. Heard one customer verbally abuse another with rude comments and literal hate speech. My party and I assumed the bartender would intervene, only to have her side with the abuser and kick the victim out. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place.

One of the only late night spots in Golden. The atmosphere is lively and the staff is friendly. Karaoke on the weekends was my draw but I found it to be a bit crowded and loud for my taste.

Came to Golden looking for the oldest bar in Colorado. That place turned out to be a sham so I walked across the street to Ace High. Not the oldest bar in Colorado, but definitely a bar, which is what I wanted. Save yourself the disappointment of that other place and just come here. Seems like all the locals do anyway.

If you enjoy local bar youll love this place. Kind of a dive bar, but they have good music, good drinks, and the staff for someone friendly. I definitely come back here frequently. I like the down home feeling.

My buddies and I went to this Tavern on the 4th for live music and drinks and to say I was unhappy is an understatement. We were probably on our 3rd drink when we were cut off for no specific reason. The one bartender said they were at a capacity, and then another one said half of our group was cut off. There was a group of college students sitting next to us who were far more intoxicated than us. So Im not sure if they assumed they were with us or not. The main reason Im leaving this review is primarily because I watched a bartender make me a red bull vodka that did not contain any alcohol. She first poured red bull in, and then used the soda wand to put whatever else in the drink. Ive worked at a number of restaurants and have never seen liquor on a drink wand. I know this is a possibility but not at a dive bar such as this.

A true dive bar - lots of fun, crazy drunks, and not a blazer in sight. There is karaoke three nights a week, and you are guaranteed to hear a great rendition of Johnny Cash or Garth Brooks at least twice a night, and a terrible rendition of Ludacris or Guns and Roses at least once.

THE definition of dive bar. Incredible atmosphere, allowed me to bring in outside food since they dont serve any..and offer great beer deals. Since they are so close to coors brewery, it makes sense why they would have such great coors deals

I tried to sing karaoke with my friend on a Thursday, but when I grabbed a mic, the extremely lame DJ girl with the black hair scoffed at me and grabbed it out of my hands. Then she proceeded to sing along with all the songs, and ruined every single one of them. If you want to avoid a loser karaoke DJ, then I suggest passing this place up on a Thursday night... otherwise, decent place

Although we are in a pandemic I have to say that I am very disappointed in how these people run their establishment, my three friends and I sat down to see the live music and grab a couple drinks on the 4th of july. I had a total of three rum and Coke’s in the duration of approximately three hours the same goes for my friends who one was actually drinking blue moon not even hard liquor. When came towards the end of the night we were told that we were not allowed to go back in and we were not able to get any drinks there was two reasonings behind them telling us this which was very confusing the first reason was that it was overcrowded and that they couldn’t entertain any more people in their establishment which is completely understandable the second reasoning was because we were cut off aka being too drunk..... after three drinks............ The cowboy looking man said “what are you guys doing out still shouldn’t you go home why would you want to get this coronavirus” I found that very offensive. I mostly found it offensive because he had no problem with us sitting there for the 2 1/2 hours before that we had a pretty good tab worked up about $78 and somechange although it could’ve probably been a potential $150 tab for them if they were going to do their job right we are upstanding young man i’m very respectful at that we weren’t getting loud and we were minding our own business trying to have a good time on the Fourth of July until it was ruined By the employees who are not very wise and didn’t give us very good reasoning to why they we’re giving us the boot. I’m originally from Saratoga springs New York where our bars close at 4:30 in the morning keep in mind we got cut off at 10 PM no offense but that’s technically our pregame so be wary when going to the dive bar a.k.a. DIVE BAR because it was a very lousy one they would have gotten a good review but they definitely messed up in my eyes so thank you for reading and I hope that you carefully consider where you guys go to drink in Golden Colorado.

We wandered in here with a friend and discovered that it was a SuperBowl party! There was green chili, bean soup, chicken wings, appetizers and goodies available to all. We purchased our drinks and enjoyed free food. Fun,comfortable place!

Went there after dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find this friendly little dive bar. Bartender was great and the atmosphere was very cool and comfortable. And prices were typical for the area.

I’ve been coming to the Ace for years. It’s a great place with excellent staff. Bonnie is top notch. Perhaps the problem was you. Come in with an unpretentious, positive attitude and you’ll have a good time. Better yet, find another bar.

The bartender Michelle told me that if I didnt want to tip then to please leave. She remembered me from 2 months earlier. she said to tip appropriately or leave.

The karaoke DJ Amy is rude you need an app to request songs, she doesn’t allow customers to sing because she sings about four songs a night, she had another DJ with her who she was completely rude argues with customers, apparently there’s a karaoke contest and she plays favorites only has a few select singers repeatedly sing. Amy has told people who wanna sing. You need to give me 40.00. She is ruining peoples experiences that want to go and sing karaoke and have fun.

Bartender woman was rude. Walked in to check out place and used restroom. When I walked back out she said I could use the restroom at some public restaurant. I was thinking of getting a beer but now you lost a future customer and get a bad review.

Went in with my cousin who had two clearly legible forms of gov ID. Bartender claimed it was blurry and couldnt be read. Maybe if she put some glasses on, shed be able to read them.

This is local bar scene at its finest. Employees are classic Golden-ites, as am I. Wouldnt want any other tavern in my hometown.

Fun place, closed it down many nights, but one bathroom/toliet totally sucks...and it always smells like vomit. Other than that a staple in golden for sure.

Came for one beer when it was so hot out! Was very cold and refreshing. Was there with a friend!Friendly crowd of 15.

This place only gets busy because it is one of the few bars that stays open late in Golden. Horrible staff, horrible drinks. It has only 1 bathroom.
