Had a great time at their 2010s dance night on Friday. Great service at the bar and the music was good.4 stars for poor parking and the layout of the bar/dance floor itself is kinda janky. That doesn’t matter once you start dancing though. I recommend parking in a nearby lot to prevent break-ins. I parked on the street and the truck behind me got raided.
This is a old fashioned dance club. Almost every night their is themed with what style of music they are going to play. I go for their emo nite which is the first Tuesday of every month. You do have to pay to get in, usually anywhere from 10 to 20 bucks.
We usually just go for emo nite on the first Tuesdays of the month, but we always have a ton of fun. Bar staff is solid, but it does get busier as the night progresses. The upstairs balcony area is great, and even better now with added karaoke & photo booth. The main dance floor is on the smaller side, but the DJ is really great with keeping up the vibe. The security detail at the entrance does come on a bit strong, but I guess its understandable with these bar/club scenes.
Cool bar and good music. Me and my wife visited for our 1st time and enjoyed everything except our bartender. He wasnt kind and charged my card 2 extra dollars after I left no tip for his unkind behavior. My tab was 18 and my debit card was charged 20. I didnt bother calling to get 2 dollars back lol, its the principle.
Emo night jams are a bop! Love the place, but a bit hot and humid with so many people. Overall, a fun place to go! Can’t wait to go again with friends. :)
I went on the Friday before Easter, and whileI understand it’s a holiday weekend, it was EMPTY. Truly fewer than 30 people there, and we arrived around 12:45 am. I don’t know what management is doing, but it’s bad. This has been a late night staple for decades, and we were SHOCKED. The music sucked.Derrick the bouncer and his team were great, but the atmosphere and vibe inside were devastating and so terrible. It never occurred to me and the people I went with that it could ever be this bad. It makes me so sad to see this Houston staple falter so epically.
Dope. Great variety of people. Fun place to dance, really picks up around 12 am on Saturday. Would recommend.
Bartender will charge you too much just for 5 drinks and they charge tip already.. so yea music is good for 80s but bartenders charge too much just for a basic wells.. taking advantage of people.. and i know nothing will happen from this.. and also the double drinks are in a small plastic cup instead of an actual double
Leaving the bar - dark, loud music - I accidentally open a wrong door and it is the door for the teller - I get PUNCHED in the chest. Not a single word is said, just a finger pointing to the direction of the exit. Why was I just assaulted?
Man this could be houstons premier dance club if they wanted to!!! The lights in this joint is top notch almost giving it a rave like feel. On some nights you can guarantee yourself some free parking fr LOL
Bartender close to mens rr is rude..and over charges..and the people taking payment to enter will try to trick you as if you didnt already pay so that you can pay twice
March 5th 2024: Ive been to Barbarellas for sometimes now, prob be the 5th, 6th time..This is the first time I feel so ????The bartenders at the back bar didnt tolerate the fact that I used the wrong card on accident. Complete attitudes and did not let me speak not once. The first bartender snatched the drink out of my hand. The second one did not let me speak once and told me to move and get out of line. I get it, its busy. But do better. You dont have to lead with an iron fist because honestly its not that serious. It kinda sucks and definitely made me not to come back. Barbs, I know you can do better.. Ive seen it.
Its got a good crowd and 80s night is fun, just dont look up. Enormous amounts of dust on fans and pipes. Run down and needs a renovation, but drinks are good.
Barbarella gets 💎🕺🏽💃🏼🥃. It’s the best place to dance, drink ,and just be in a fun environment. I’ve gone here multiple times and never had a problem. The lights are cool the DJ has a great mix of songs you know and songs you don’t know. I love the theme nights, 90’s and 80’s are my favorite. I also love the fact that it’s a mixed group of people. If your visiting or if you live here, Thursday is the best day to go, and make sure your ready to dance. TristainJ82 IG
My friends I have been coming here for a year and we had no complaints until the last few weeks. I handed the cover charge girl today a, $100 bill for my friend and I. She proceeded to THROW my change on the table and immediately went back to whatever she was watching on her phone. The guy sitting next to her was very nice and he even shook his head as he recognized her behavior. They have been closing at different times then what is on google, Apple Maps, or social media. I consider myself and my friends patrons and we would never place a complaint unless necessary. Thank you
So the ticket lady or the lady up front taking money has one of the biggest stink faces ever and worse attitude, almost as if she’s telling you why are you even here. On a side note the bartenders are pretty friendly drinks are good and strong. It tends to get really crowded in there but it’s still fun to go to. I just wish someone would stop taking the jam out of the front door lady donut
Was waiting for my Uber outside in the rain. Decided to wait under the patio since it was raining. The dude working the front desk was on a power trip and decided to scream and force us inside although we paid for the entrance and were hanging out on the patio. He then decided to shove me and my friends out of the area because he had his feelings hurt by something he must have burning deep inside of himself because no one said nothing to him. He must have some deep personal problems.
Honestly I love coming here to dance. My first time here was for their Daft Punk tribute night and it was a blast. I like to swing by for 80s night and the 90s-00s night. The video screens add so much to the atmosphere. Cheap cover and a decently sized dance floor. Everyones here to dance and theres generally a lot of nice folk around. Drink selection is a little weak, but itll get you going. If you get there early enough you can park in the lot. Otherwise good luck. My only real complaint: The DJ has been lacking the last few nights Ive gone. Like how are you going to go from Rebel Yell to Jumper? ABBA to Ice Cube? The BPMs arent matching. The musical vibes arent flowing. Youd think seeing a dozen people leave the dance floor is a sign to change what youre doing. You get Top 20 and then a random handful of unknown songs for 3 tracks in a row... But when they do get the music bumping, its a really really good time.
Extremely terrible experience, wont come again ever.I just ordered a $3 cranberry juice, didnt wanna drink alcohol because I have to driving, and after I took two sips, a black man cleaner was very rudely grabbed my juice and poured it into the trash bin, saying that I could only drink alcohol.I didnt understand why he did that so bad, I obviously ordered it from the bar, and didnt bring my own drink at all.Never seen a bar that doesnt allow guests to drink juice sold by their bartenders, its ridiculous!!!!
Great place for a girl night out. No cover charge I believe for women? But I didnt pay. Got there 10:30pm Saturday night for 80s night. The music was great for the whole night! Definitely danced a lot and struck up some good conversations with other party goers in the huge patio outside!
It was my first time there. I did enjoy the vibe. I used to drive Uber, and I always picked up really cool people from there that seemed to have a lot of fun, so I thought I would go try it out. I was not disappointed.
I love Barbarella so much! The vibe is always great, drinks are affordable, bartenders are nice, and the music is amazing. Recommend to anyone who wants to have a good time.
Came on 80’s night and it was “bumping”.Cover charge of $10 is worth it for a night of dancing your heart out and fog machines. The bartenders had a handle on the bar so your not standing there waiting to order forever. Very attentive bartenders.
I’m not sure if this is a gay bar but it definitely feels LGBTQ friendly which I really appreciate. I had a great time here, no one stares and makes you uncomfortable, it’s such a care free environment. If you ever want to dance in a judgment free zone, this is your place. Everyone dances like no one is watching! The drinks are cheap but they use flimsy plastic cups that are a bit small, I wouldn’t say it’s the cleanest bar but the restrooms are decent. The bouncers were also friendly and funny, which is so rare!! This bar mostly plays house music.I would also like to add that there is a $5 cover charge fee. Although I would prefer no cover charge, bars in this area and in Houston overall usually charge $20+.
The first time here might be the last one. A long island 12$ but it was served in a short plastic cup, at least you would think it was gonna be almost pure liquor judging by the size of the plastic cup and it tasted just like coke and sweet & sour, no more liquor poured just TripleSec. I told the bald chubby bartender, and he ignored me. A girl looking for trouble threw my friends drink to the floor on purpose, and when we tried to get help from staff, they did nothingKaraoke was the only good time. Careful with the stairs, Ive heard that for some reason, they are always wet. FIX THE LEAKING ON THE STAIRS, it can cause accidents.
Nah waiting in line in 2024 is ridiculous. Yall gotta open when yall say yall gonna open.
I can only give my input on the outside. We arrived for a girls night out on a Thursday. We saw the seroundings and decided not to even park. Located in a dark street and full of homeless people. We didnt feel safe 😞
Went here after a birthday dinner for 80s night. Barely played the songs I wanted to hear. If he played it out was after I left at 1130pm. I got there early and the dj said he would play more of what I wanted to hear when more people arrived.. they arrived and he still didnt play them.. but I had a good time and the drinks were good.
Said the rule was $10 before 2AM, then $5 after. Whether that’s true all the time, idk.
It was our first time at this bar/club. The music they played was great. However, the bar was not so great. The bartenders were over pouring with the drinks and everything tasted bad. I know its not a cocktail bar but I expected at least a decent beverage. Also the $5 cash cover charge is pretty ridiculous. Most people do not carry cash anymore. The girl at the front door withheld my ID so I could use the ATM inside in order to pay the fee. For what this place was we could have had a better experience at Numbers or Etro (no cover) guaranteed. I dont think well be coming back to this shady place. Its just not worth it.
They close early and have aggressive bouncers that will just kick everyone out when they feel like it, even after you just paid a cover to get in. Used to be cooler.
If you want to park in the lot get there early. My only complaint is this whole place could use a good dusting and revamp of the patio, it looks rundown a bit. it gets pretty packed but love how big the patio is. They have a food truck sometimes. I do absolutely love this club and all the different music they play with the music videos. I came for pride night and the dj replayed songs throughout the night, like you dont have enough music?? Most people probably didnt notice but it was a turn off for me.
Update: Jan 2024The bartenders have gotten better attitude wise, but now they have inconsistent pricing. First I payed $24 for two jack n cokes (20% tip forcefully included) and the second time around I was charged $18 for just one with the 20% tip 💀Friend was charged $20 for one white claw...I come here a lot and the only reason is because they close at 3. The music can be good sometimes, but the bartenders are always terrible. They’re rude and they don’t know how to make anything. What’s even worse is they tip themselves!!! I bought a beer, was given no receipt and shoed away....they charged me $20.Be careful about doing business at this club...just take cash. R a t s.
Security guards here MOLEST you without consequence. I used to think they did this to everyone then my boyfriend told me that they did NOT pat him down the same. When I tried to alert management they kicked me out. #Cancelbarbarella
Still a great time! Place has always been fun. Cheap drinks. Cheap cover after 11 most nights. Go, be safe, have fun. That simple! They are not closed. Place is up and running! Ive loved this place for years. Drinks are reasonably priced. No dress code. Welcomes all kinds. You can just go, drink, have fun, and not stress about much else. Would definitely recommend.
Love this place. Makes me remember the good old times. Its a hipster indie dance club. I especially love the 80s night here on Saturdays. Drinks are reasonably priced. Theres a good amount of dance space there as well as outside terrace to hang out or smoke. Parking is alright if youre there a bit early. Otherwise it can get tough there in midtown during prime time after 11pm.
I love barbs! its my favorite place to go to when I want to dance. drinks are cheap and strong. you only ever pay cover on like a saturday or some theme nights. Keep in mind they do close earlier than expected some nights because they arent busy!! Also, the bartenders look mad all the time but doesnt stop me from coming lol!
Ok 80s music on Saturdays with music video screens. They seemed to play lesser known 80s artists. Relatively small overall club size. There was a large male cross dresser there in exposing female lingerie that seemed like a regular. The homeless surrounding the club will ask you for money or yell at you, etc. The club is across the street from a another club called Space. So you will compete for parking with this other club. Although if you are early enough I guess you might be able to park in the clubs very limited entrance parking lot if you are able to time your arrival with their very unpunctual opening of the gates.
Vibe was okay. Cover was $10 & only cash accepted at the door. Restrooms were a disaster and all out of toilet paper last Saturday night.
This places emo night is like none other. Food trucks usually outside, dont wear nice shoes here cos you WILL get a drink spilled on em/get stepped on.
Terrible. Took forever to find parking. $40 at every lot around it. Then such Bad vibes going in. Door guys had major attitude. Literally felt like we were about to board a plane with their security. $5 bucks to get in. Inside, its always the same music (right, but its an 80s club!). I like 80s music but this place was never my vibe. Something grimey about it and nothing has changed.
As a first timer Id say Barbarella left me with a good impression. Its definitely a diverse crowd, I mean all ages and types. It was neat to people watch. I will say the overall decor and furniture need some updating but you dont come for that. If 80-90s music is your thing, welcome. The drinks were strong, totally worth the money. I will say parking lot is small, but its free! Theres street parking, but beware those hooligans that try to charge you! Its free on the street. They have an outdoor, upstairs seating area to hang out as well. I want to come back on a Thursday because I prefer 90s music. Overall, good experience.
Have been there twice and really liked the vibe! Very down to earth and a fantastic place to dance with lots of cool crowds. I dont personally die for the music, but the atmosphere is so friendly and inviting that you enjoy making every single move! It is not an up-scale place, so if you are looking for a high-end dance spot, this is a wrong spot for you! But you definitely have to go there if you want a chill casually loud night alone, with friends or a partner!
One of my favorite places to go at the end of the night. The crowd is so diverse and you always feel comfortable. The prices are the best and the bartenders are always so nice. The security at the end of the night don’t play around though, when they it’s closed they mean it and you have like 30 seconds to get out of the parking lot.
Dive night club was a way this place was once described to me and it pretty spot on. I love barbz I’ve been going here for years and have so many amazing stories. I’ve even gotten kicked out of here once (my friend threw up on the patio). I have so many good stories and made this my tinder meetup spot for a while in2017. 10/10they have an emo night the first Tuesday of the month but they do theme nights a few days of the week too and my fave is vintage pop and hip hop Thursdays. I almost hesitate to leave a review because I don’t want more people to come but I want them to stay open forever. I’m glad they survived the pandemic
Cash bar only in April 2022. $5 entry fee. Pockets are checked before entry. Great 80’s dance party on a Saturday night! Had a lot of fun. Good vibes
Not sure how often they clean. Music was good. Parking is terrible. Decent atmosphere. Asked for a Sailor Jerry neat and received a shot. Asked for a rum and coke and the mix was well. They tossed in a lime for some reason. Not even mad though, it wasnt bad.
Was nice until 2 am, when they went around throwing everyones drinks out.. before then it was fun reasonable prices ($5 for a miller 500ml), dance floor ready. Music loud as hell but thatswhat it is everywhere
Get free parking if you get there at 2100-2200 hours or park near streets near at your own risk. Homeless people usually take care of my car for a few bucks and a cigarette. The mens restroom typically gets chaotic so watch where you step and be prepared to find no soap where you wash your hands.Approach the bartender as close as you can and be patient, there are a few.The dancefloors are awesome, and the TV screens are great.Good place to dance the night away to some iconic 90s & 80s songs. Good people, good vibes, stress free. Great place to forget about your student loan debt.Make sure you get there before 2300, its free.
Love this bar but if you live in 2022 and don’t carry $5 cash you’re screwed because their atm doesn’t work and nobody will accept Venmo regardless of what premium you offer them. Makes no sense. Does the owner know they’re keeping $250 tabs out because they only accept cash and “their square broke”? Who in houston cares about $5?
Beautiful place to have fun and dance. Honest price on drink. I will come back
This place is a whole in the wall. They only played 80s music in here the whole night. First time and last night. My cousin and I were over dress. Chicks in here wearing 80s ruffle prom dress with tennis shoes and girls wearing leg warmers and its like 75 degrees outside. This place is a dump dont was your time. Never again will I come to this raffle as dump. And let me not forget the expensive parking 20 dollars. Although the cover is 5. Dont waste your time
Super fun! If youre looking for a place with a great dance floor that isnt all dirty, club music, this is a great option. Theyre music is going to be a lot more niche trendy, with lots of dance beats and lights. Drinks are fairly priced as well.
Great place for all ages and being yourself. Most unpretentious club around. Go feel free and be yourself. Staff and music are great. Will come back any chance I get.
Wish they didnt require a cover charge after a certain time. The music is a nice change to the typical midtown bar though. While its nothing fancy, its a fun place to dance at.Emo night is my monthly tradition but I wish theyd switch 90s night to Friday and New Noise to Thursdays. Id much rather go to 90s night!
The drinks are good...But I am not happy with the air conditioning.People are expected to dance and party and so they sweat. Since the air conditioning is not upto the mark. It all gets swampy, damp and suffocated.Kindly look into it.You could also improve on the music.Rather than playing entire songs of whose most of the people don’t know lyrics of, you could choose some groovy music or play songs by part.....“I need an Angel Right Now” is not the lyrics I want to dance on my party😹Hope this helps.Thank you for your service ☺️
Been here a couple times, vibes in here are lit. Drinks are made pretty good, they close at 3am on Saturdays & they have throwback Thurs. which is my personal fave. They have a couple arcade games inside. Although this club is fun & all its deff somewhere where you really need to be aware of your surroundings & take cash, dont swipe your card here .
Excellent place to dance the night away!. There are themes depending on the night you visit, the drinks are affordable and delicious and there is plenty of room to dance and sit if you need to rest your feet. This very much a come as you are venue. I would definitely recommend this spot.
I have heard great things about this place from friends, so I decided to check it out after being sardined at another place nearby. I was not impressed. Drinks were decent, but the venue itself is very small and it was flooded with single male creepers who just stood on the wall staring, waiting for an opportunity to sneak between my friend and I while dancing. The music was subpar. Techno dance music with very little lyrical tunes.
This place is low level bodunk. They confiscated my sharpie? Plus had to pay cover charge, only to get kicked out 15 minutes later after someone around me was smoking.?? It was 1:45, they couldn’t even give us 15 Minutes to leave ??? Never felt so disrespected at a bar.
Love! Love! Love this place! I think that it is definitely one of a kind in terms of atmosphere. They play all kinds of music and attract a diverse crowd. I have never had a dull night there. All-in-all an awesome establishment.
Amazing place to dance! This place is great for groups. Theres a food truck in front on Thursdays and Saturdays. Cart in front of the club right across the street that serves hotdogs wrapped in bacon! Love the staff! Amazing guys with tons to talk about 😘 favorite spot to mingle, drink and dance. Open till 3 also!
Overpriced drinks claiming Tito’s is premium liquor, not just that but the bartender was RUDE.Also - they did an unapproved transaction trying to play with me.It’s not even a nice place at all. Gives me weird vibes. Tried to shut down the concert EARLY for some reason as well.(I attended a concert and the venue was this place)
This is my absolute favorite place to get out and dance in Houston!!!! Hands down! Ive never had a bad night at this place and I love dragging my friends here. Drinks are reasonably priced and music is always good! I wish they would change up their theme nights sometimes but I still always enjoy them. 90s music on Thursdays, indie music on fridays, and 80s on Saturday nights. Also good to know that it doesnt really get busier until midnight if youre wondering why its emptier before then. Love love love this place though!!!!!
I love dancing and if you love dancing then its a great spot to dress classy or casual. Must have ID and cash. They have an atm but just bring cash to get it done with quicker. Their 80s nights are fun and gets super full.
Not the cleanest place but TONS of fun!If dancing to 80s with tons of people is your thing.. this is the place for you. Love the fact that they play videos for the songs too. Nothing like seeing the video for Borderline or RUN DMC. The light up dance floor just adds to the 80s vibe.
I used to really enjoy coming here since the music is very fun to dance to and the people on the dance floor are full of good vibes and energy. However, this past Saturday my friend was physically assaulted by one of the bouncers. Someone in our group happened to break the rules, my female friend got singled out so the bouncer decided to be especially aggressive towards her when kicking us out. He kept shoving and pushing her after she specifically asked to not be touched. My friend also suffers from trauma so this incident caused her to have a full blown panic attack. When she had simply gotten his hands off of her, he decided to push even harder causing her to break her nail and develop cuts on her feet. What’s worse is that when we tried to get names or even the managers names, the bouncers gave us a fake name and wouldn’t tell us the manager’s name. Absolutely unacceptable, everyone makes mistakes and I understand that my friend had broken the rules but that doesn’t give someone the right to physically assault someone. Take your business elsewhere if you want to be respected especially if you’re a woman.
Absolutely LOVE the 80s jams Babarella features!! Complete with 80s music videos!! The bartenders are quick to serve (even tonic & lime, as I dont drink) and the dance floor stays packed!! The rooftop patio is great place to cool off and enjoy the downtown skyline! ♡♡♡
Very chill fun place. I brought me back to my NYC 80s and 90s clubbing days vibe. I BE BACK.🤩🤩🤩🔥🔥
I got there a hour before closing as was followed by security into the restroom and kicked out within 5 mins for no reason that was explained to me. Terrible experience, won’t be back.
All of the good reviews of this place are at least 6 months old. I don’t know what changed but since the pandemic started the music and vibe has not been the same!! Pride this year was so lame, 80s night is the same thing over and over again. Used to be my favorite. Very disappointing.
Hit or miss with this place when I come to Houston. On the 80s Saturday night, for every good song the DJ plays, he will then play a bunch of songs that will have you scratching your head. I wish they would change the weekly lineup: have 90s night on Saturday and have 80s night on Friday.
$5~ entry fee and remember to empty your pockets!Decent vibes. TVs on the dance floor. Follow their IG for different themed nights.Watch the surrounding streets, blew a tire leaving (not Barbarella fault♡)
Aint gonna lie, this place is a total dive and needs some major interior maintenance, but Saturdays are 80s nights and I swear I have a blast every time Im there!
Great place to end the night. Theres a mega bar on first floor with impressively short lines. Go left to dance your socks off or outside to chill on an upstairs balcony. We drank beer so I cant speak for mixed drinks, but the prices were fair. Only complaint is the cover.
Showed up with friends and had to pay a cover which I didn’t mind but I didn’t have cash so I was told to leave my ID and my friends had to wait outside until I came back, after we went to the restroom and we got in line and I being my first time there took a puff out of my vape not knowing it wasn’t allowed and a bouncer (tall, black kinda muscular one) came up to me kinda aggressive and told me that me vaping a regular store bought vape was “illegal” and I would be sent home so I put it away and off the bat he would not stop staring at our group so then my friend who didn’t even buy a drink at the bar got sick from the lights and threw up in the restroom and he again approached her kinda aggressively and kicked her out so we all left…I honestly felt discriminated since my friends and I are Hispanic and that bouncer was just a straight up A-holeDO NOT GO HERE!My first and last time I’ll step foot in this raggedy a$$ place
Love the vibe, atmosphere and people who work here. Alex is the best bartender from all out there. If this place was open on Sunday, I would definitely visit it more often but overall I always have good time here.
Great place for dancing in midtown. I love the 80s and 00s throwback night. They play the music video on screens all around the club which makes it easier to jam all night.
Went to this place twice and will go back for sure! No cover, drinks 3-5$, no line, good music. This place is perfect!Pros : outside terrace with view on downtown,
Let me first say this: I am NOT a club person. I hate waiting in line at clubs, bottle service and dudes in shirts that theyre about to Hulk out of. Its just not my scene. With that said, I feel like this club was built for me. Incredibly laid back atmosphere where everyone is welcome to be themselves. Youll see everything from boat shoes to no shoes and the dance floor is one of the best around. Come out on 80s night or 90s night and you wont be disappointed.
Cheap drinks, great dance floor, huge upstairs balcony with views of the city. Why am I not here every weekend? I dont like the music. They need new DJs... its a dance place and they only play songs that are fun to dance to every like 3rd or 4th song. I understand theyre trying to be cool and hipster but honestly its just not fun. Saturdays they play 80s music which I have grown to kind of hate, not sure why 80s music is so trendy. The last few times Ive been here its been pretty empty while Limelight across the street has a huge line so I know its not because of the location. I do want to give props to the bartenders and anyone who cleans up because my ID fell out while I was there and I was able to get it back the next day :) This place seriously has SOO much potential... I just want them to play better music.
Barbarella will always be the dance club where you could have a great time to dance the night away without a care. Theres always all types of crowd coming to here because theres only so many big dance clubs in Houston where the drink is decent price, the light, the sound, and its moderately air conditioned building that all feels just right. If you get in before 12AM, there will be no door charge!Normally the Saturday night is 80s night so if you feel like some great 80s dancing time, you should make Saturday a Barbarella night. Then theres also New Noise night and sometimes theme nights on other days. The club is spacious as theres an elevated floor for people to dance on. However, you have to be careful because sometimes the floor may be wet due to people spilling drinks and it makes it very slippery especially youre wearing a less traction shoes.Theres also an outside patio where people can get some fresh air and a great view of the Houston skyline. You can always walk back inside as long as you got the black light stamp on your arm. As for water to quench your thirst, theres usually two big water dispensers near the back of the bar for you to self-serve. In the back is also a photo booth and a few lounge chairs along the side to sit down.If you come on other nights there will be different themes so it depends on your mood of dancing but over all I never had a bad time at Barbarella. Parking is always tricky in that part of town but as long as you see street parking that everyone else is parked there, you should be safe to park there as well. I would certainly recommend anyone who wants to dance all night long should go here first or last, depends how your night goes.
$20 parking and a $5 cover would lead you to anticipate a fun time here. Unfortunately, this hole in the wall feels quite grimy where one would expect many shady drug deals to go down. The music was good, if you were to take that playlist and jam in your car, not in a club. Severely disappointed and would not recommend returning unless this sounds like your scene.
Im visiting my family and was brought out by my cousins. The music is great, its a little small but it works somehow. We had a really great time. The reason Im rating this 2 stars is because this past Saturday, after last call, I went to use the ladies room but ended up slipping and falling in the handicap stall of the womens restroom because the floor was soaked. This is a major issue that needs to be resolved before someone gets seriously injured.
It was one of the most exciting places to have fun, weekend is the best time of the week to go in, I had the best fun, there were actually different things to do extraordinary things.
Awesome place, drinks are reasonably priced, one specific bartender always has a bad attitude.
Fun spot for those throw back days to the 70s, 80s and 90s. The way a dance club should be… fun, with no fuss, drama queens or screaming kids!
Really neat dance club/lounge with a unique laid back vibe. They typically play older popular music from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. They also have a nice outdoor patio, and the drinks are reasonably priced.
Never disappointing. Crusty dive bar vibes with cool music, videos, and everyone is always dancing!
Came to this bar/club for the first time today on November 18, Saturday. First impression: bartenders were motionless robots. Got here around 10:00pm, girl with blond hair and tattoos was playing with her phone for 10 Minutes while 5 customers was waiting for to order some drinks. Not only this is dirty, rundown and got mold over the bathroooms, customers service is really bad. I would not recommend not even my worst enemy!
Had an awesome time on Thursday 90s night. Great diversity of music. We had a blast!
This place is not for the faint of heart or fancy, your really have to embrace the place. From the slivers of flashbacks I have from the couple of times I went here I remember a ton of mirrors, a room that captured the vibe of Kubriks 2001: A Space Odyssey, laser lights, cheap lone star tall-boys, loud music, and a ton of dancing. This isnt the type of place that you make a plan to go to, it is a place that you end up at and say damn that was fun
Staff wont call taxi for anyone. Drink and pay all you want, but if you happen to lose your people inside and have no phone; it will take an earth shattering effort to grapple with the general mentality of theres someone who needs a taxi, but their seemed to be adamantly about to sound off about their personal safety. Well thank goodness theyre not getting murdered, maybe that would be too convenient.Apparently for that service must be stupid drunk, drugged through gravel and unable to let the driver know where youre headed is acceptable for getting their heck off their lot. Everyone in ear shot refers to the greyhound station as the best place to take care of paying patrons. And I hear avoid debit cards, charge cards, miraculous multiple charges and no one answers office phone, FB messenger, nothing. Everyone who has a problem must be drunk, even if youre sober.
It was fun wife and I had a good time. Their where a couple roach coach trucks serving up food as well at 1am across the street. Music was 80s and 90s
Surly bartender but made awesome drinks. Loved the Playlist so much. It was very fun.
I’m giving this place 1 star due to being accused of trying to give a bartender(the one with the colored hair and eyebrows) cocaine. The bouncer came directly to me and said I needed to go because the bartender accused me of trying to give her cocaine. I was so upset specially since it was a group of us and we were celebrating our friends bday. It’s kinda sad because it makes me wonder and think what kind of place this is and if I really even want to be in a place where bartenders think your trying to give them drugs. I have never had this issue or any issues at all with this place but this really upset me specially when I’m being accused of something I did not do. I was so humiliated and upset I haven’t been back since then, which sucks cause I would go every now and then completely changed my view on this place and the ppl that work there.
Dance like nobody is watching. This place is filled with interesting people, and you can be one of them! Music videos play on the screens alongside the music. Each night has themed music. Friday nights are New Noise - primarily indie/dance-pop (Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Crystal Castles, etc.). Saturdays are 80s night, and it gets packed. Cheap drinks. You are sure to see several DFMO (dance floor make outs) on the light up dance floor. $5 Cover starting at midnight. Bar closes at 2, but keep dancing till 3am. This place is a great end to the night.
Ive been going to this place for 4 years and not once have I had an incident until tonight. Me, my girlfriend and her friends decided to go to 90s night and everything was going fine until I stepped out to walk her to her car. I walked up to the bouncer who checked my arm for the stamp and let me go in and before I could reach the door; one of the bouncers tells me that Im banned and I cant go back anymore. I ask him why and he tells me that me and some friends of mine were being rude and disrespectful to a bouncer and threw a beer can at him. I tell the guy i was nowhere near barbarella last Saturday. Not one of those bouncers were there that night and refuse to call one of their employees so I call my girlfriend and she tells them we were not there that night. He refuses to back and tell me that me and the guy were a black shirt and that we looked alike. I was racial profiled and refused entry inside. I dont know his name but hes an Asian guy who has blonde highlights and tattoos on his left arm and wears glasses. Ive always sung the praises of this place to EVERYBODY and now they treat me like this because YOU assume Im the guy because we look alike. I hope to get ahold of the manager or owner to tell them this because I was racial profiled and wrongfully accused of something I did not do AT ALL.
This place is always amazing bartenders are great , bouncers are actually nice !! Absolutely me & my friends go to bar !
I got robbed outside of this bar—same as my other friend on a different night lol. i’ll give them 2 stars cause the bar is fun but it is NOT safe at all around the area when you leave at night. literally got robbed on my way to my uber like what?????
Very rude staff. DJ hasn’t changed up the music in years.
July 2015BY FAR the WORST business i ever owned!!! Most of the customers & employees were great. Problem was the crooks that I bought the business from. They committed MAJOR FRAUD!!!! I bought it in Nov.2010 and terminated the lease in Dec. of 2012. It was losing so much money that it had 0 resale value!!! --- It was losing even more money, before the con artists sold it to me!!!Same crooks still own the building, and land. Tenants and/or business name has changed 2 or more times, since I had it!!! It was called Status, when i was there (see sign on google).Any of you former customers and employees who read this -- THANK YOU Very Much for your patronage and work, etc.,,
Iconic club with great music
Very cool, love the fact that they play the videos with the songs! Two things though, they need to turn the volume down a bit. Numbers has the perfect setting. Second, some more alternative 80s would be cool.
Nice place but drinks a little expensive for the poor atmosphere. Too many sweaty smelly people too.
IDK why they started charging a $5 cover. Drinks also went up in price...Must be getting really packed. I had fun when I went, its just that the music that was playing that night was not my style.
I always have a blast at Barbs! It’s one of the few places where you can go in Houston for a fun night of dancing! The staff always takes care you you and I always feel safe.
Emo night and 90s night are always super fun. They had live bands last week for the first time and that was super cool to see.
90s Thursday! I love this place, I’ve only been on thursdays and it is so much fun. I love that you can truly be yourself and dance freely. So if you love 90s music and dancing you have to visit on a Thursday!
Bartender was rude, blonde girl slapped my hand after I ordered a drink and asked for extra limes as I waited a few minutes and decided to reach for the lime myself. Great environment, will not get drinks from rude blonde girl again.
Too many sweaty smelly people. Drinks are expensive for the low level atmosphere.
Thursdays are slow weekends of course good. But drinks are not great tasting. Cool looking spot. Just average though nothing special.
I’ve been to barbs a few times and always had a great time. - but the guy on the side bar was hella rude for no reason. Not sure what he was going through but definitely was uncalled for.
Drinks are over priced, I’ve had friends get roofied here, and I found a condom on the floor next to a bunch of guys doing coke. It’s fun if you like that kind of stuff.
Sometimes I have a lot of fun. I wish they would make up their mind about what time they close. any time between 2am to 3am they can just kick everybody else out at once while their business hours say 3am.
Usually a good time! Staff/Security always makes us feel welcome and safe!
If you wanna get roofied, this is the place to go!
The bartenders are rude except for one guy. Emo night is full of great people. The tequila isnt that great but everything else is good.
For the East Village NYC and Berkley North California eclectic vibe. From drag queens to school marms and all things lively and in between. For the international collegiate to the around the way girl/guy...Never a same night. Always something vivid and fun!! Food truck and Mobile Pizza guy always on deck for before or after your turn up (party). As always drink responsibly. And more importantly; call a Lyft ride and save that $10,000 attorney fee!!
Would dance there again with my friends.I didnt know any of the 80s songs but they were good.
I lost my phone here. Good fing luck trying to recover it. I tracked its location back to Barbarella. I went for a straight week every night hoping to recover it. Theyre never open, forget calling the phone number listed (even during business hours to get a hold of someone) NO email to send mgmt a simple request. Waited a whole week to finally catch them when theyre actually open, and the staff were as helpful as dementia patients. If you want to go to a redneck af bar that acts like a posh LA club but as stupid as white ocean at burning man, well folks, you found your place- smokn meth with Houston tweaked behind a dumpster (barbarella)Rant over.
I just came with my friends so no one can reserve the table but as I was drunk the guy that was out side came and told me that I have to get up because the girls was sitting on the couch before me that’s why so they have to take care of the customers but they don’t they have very poor customer service and they don’t care about the customers
Makes me feel like I am back in the 80s best time of my life. Its not the best looking place but its a lot of fun! Great people
Saturday nights are 80s night. It was a diverse crowd and everyone sang along with the music . We had a great time !!
Cool spot
Was in town from Dallas, found by random Google search. Good music. Good vibes. Completely different from what Im used to. Appreciate the experience! 👹🤘🏽🤘🏽
Great music, vibes, cheaper drinks for a club in downtown. New noise fridays, 80s Saturdays, emo nights! Fun place to dance and meet ppl
Best dam dance club in HTX. Very much a locals spot
If I could give 0 stars I would.Go here if you want to be denied service for asking your girlfriend what she wants to drink at the bar and then getting kicked out by the bar back aggressively for no reason at all.Don’t waste your time in a bad place like this.
They need to change their hours online. They kicked everyone out at 2am. Not to mention their staff was incredibly rude about it.
Classic, they stay open 1 extra hour. there are always fun themed nights, decades nights. loved the atmosphere
Barbs is an experience. Saturday is the time and every one of your friends is already going. Guess you are going too. See ya there, man.
Favorite bar for dancing. Has very fun, genre- and decade-themed nights. Cheap drinks, but occasionally there is a cover.
Eclectic night life scene.
The music was awesome the vibe was good except black wana security that kicked me out ur mom hates you get real job
Pretty fun. Wish the decor was better and they took card for the cover charge but overall it was fun. Would try again
Their staff Is rude, the bouncer cant even point where the water is, not even tipsy and wanted to get there but their bouncer was so rude I will never come back. I used to love coming here... so sad
Super fun bar playing 80s music late into the night.
They play 70s, 80s and 90s music. The dance floor is typically full, no judgment. Great place
I love this place! Great music, people are super fun. The place is friendly to anyone. Even 80s night was super fun
To be honest it was boring for the first 3 hours and then slowly within the hour it was getting packed so somewhere around between midnight and closing its was great!
So this is the place my friends and I go to on a Saturday night after every other club has closed. Its our after party place. Theres 80s music nonstop and lots of dancing!
Fantastic vibe! Awesome mix of people just there for the tunes. Young and old, every culture, no aggro, just a chill good time.
Always a fun time. I prefer to go there on Saturdays. Very diverse and unique crowd.
Had a blast at emo nite, what a fun crowd!
My favorite Houston spot! Great people, love the music and not only is it fun to dance at, its great for people watching too! :)
Great place to DANCE and socialize. Check out their website to see what type of music they are playing each night. 👌🏼
Barbarella is a Good bar!
Emo night was definitely the place to be!
Far price on drinks. 80s style music. Free dance environment. Reasonable price for entre.
Thought it was a decent place at first but quickly realized its full of sketchy people, crappy music, and low skilled bartenders. Not worth the cover charge or the time.
Love this bar but the Dj this night played what she wanted but didnt play the requested songs of the night
I like it but they supposed to close at 2 or 2:30 as they advertised but they just closed at 1:43. And the guy at the entrance just screamed at us.
10/10 love this place... everything is 80s AF and its absolutely the place to be on a Saturday night.
Definitely has its target audience that I dont fall under but it was a fun time. Restrooms can get a bit dirty though
Great music and all, drinks are good but a good number of the dudes in here are rapey asf, be safe when visiting here.
The worst bar i have ever seen. I went on saturday and the music and atmosphere was disgusting. very poor quality
Would be a way a higher score if the dance floor wasnt sticky af. Invest in a mop or even just a swifter jet.
Everyone knows this is the best place to come to dance and get even more trashed then you were before you walked in. Love etttt
I always have a great experience at this place, cheap drinks, interesting crowd, magnificent 80s music!
Its fun, the theme nights are cool. Its definitely worth the stop.
I love, love, LOVE this place! It gets super crowded on Saturdays when its 80s night, but its totally tubular!
My FAVORITE place to dance on a Saturday night. Cheap drinks, 80s music and interesting people.
This place almost made my butt cheeks explode on Thursday night! The DJ played all the best songs from the 90 s, and I couldnt stop dancing! The next time I go to Barbarella I will have 911 on standby in case my cheeks have a meltdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀👄🍑🎆🔥💣💥🎆
This is pretty much my favorite place to go - anytimethe only place that fits my music/dance needs for many moons
Friendly staff and fabulous atmosphere!
Bar staff are thugs, I asked bartender for couple of drinks and she keep my change in the tip box without asking me.. never going there again and will stop my friends as well .. Thug staff
The guy over there charge us double price. He alwyas has attitude and barbella needs to get rid of him.Don’t come to this place.
Great place to dance! Drinks suck, pre game!
I came with a group and we enjoyed the music selection. We danced with a guy in a bunny suit, so theres that.
My favorite place to go to dance to fun music!
Fun late night place. Great except that the state of the restroom during my last visit has given me reoccurring nightmares
Good ambiance if you go during the theme days
Our friends gets here for fun but the people on entrance door wasnt perfetional and dont respect to Customer
If you like 80s music youll love Barbs! Best place to dance on a Saturday night!
✓ 80s night!
I love Barbarellas everyone is friendly the music is awesome!!! lots of fun... oh and no cover charge😊
The music wasnt very good and it was really dirty. But we still had fun
Good music, amazing vibes, $5 cover, and good drinks!
Fun dance club with various different themes that attract different crowds on different nights. Miss Joey.
Always a great atmosphere with different music and an awesome dance floor.
The guy in the bar. He thought we were drunk and charged us double for nothing. And when we argued he tried to call bouncer. Does he think we are fool?
Staff is just unpleasant here. ATX location is great tho.
Looks like a good place to trip at😸
The place was sorta five barish but the music was amazing and the whole vibe was super fun 🌹🌞
