The Engine Room is the most horrible club/business I have ever been to in my life. If I could give a negative 5 stars I would. The staff outside was rude and all over the place. They looked and were unprofessional. We spent hundreds of dollars for my nieces birthday party to find out 2 guys in our party that were 20 years of age could not come in to join the celebration. Which one guy was my nieces boyfriend. And after speaking previously to staff that approved their entry back doored and changed their mind. They claimed the men couldn’t enter although their website says if you have a section you can still get in if you are 18. They explained only the women can get in under 21 because of the bottle service in sections. This is sexist. Either way it goes male or female they would still be under the legal age limit to drink. Half of the party left. The manager was rude and looked like a unprofessional homeless man. I will not beg anyone to take my money. We just went and gave our money to another more welcoming club nearby. Thank you but no thank you. Don’t go here.
The engine room is OK. I’ve been there about 2 times and it was always the same. I’ve been both of a Friday and Saturday. The parking is self parking but they charge you $20. To get in for women it’s $20 and for males $30 on a GOOD DAY because they have tried to charge me $40 before and I just refused to go. The bathrooms are quite digussing and they need to update them immediately. It’s always crowded though so that’s a good thing. Women have to wear heels or they won’t let you in. There isn’t much dance room because it’s full of sections. The club is ghetto and the crowd is predominantly black Americans. Like i said this club is ok but it wouldn’t be my first option.
If you want to “be seen” or “show off” this is the place for you. If you actually want to have fun, not so much. I had reservations to get in free before 11:30 I was in line forever! Finally got to the front of the line at exactly 11:30 and of course they still made me pay $20 EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR FAULT THE LINE WASNT MOVING. Parking prices are ridiculous, drinks are way over priced, the set up of the club is really awkward not giving you much room to dance ( unless you’re in a section of course) music was decent though. But it was super packed and very hot like the ac was broke or something. Definitely won’t be a regular here AT ALL.
1/2 star if I could and that would be generous. Awful experience. We paid over $200 for a guaranteed section for 18 people and when we got there they said everyone after the tenth person had to pay $20. Had this been discussed prior, it wouldn’t have been an issue. Poor management and rude bouncers. Definitely will be picking a different venue the next time I come to Houston.
Worst club I ever went to I payed $200 for a section for my 18th Birthday. It was the first club I been to so I had no idea you had to buy a bottle of wine for $240 more per bottles and they wanted me to buy 2.I should of been informed of the cost ahead time. It was a wasted $200. Me and my guest were kicked out of the section by very rude people. My $200 was non-refundable. I would not recommend this club to anyone. I am looking into my legal rights to try and get my money back.
This has been the WORST club in Houston that I tried to get to. I had on tennis shoes last night(Im a female). the reason I had the tennis shoes on last night is because I had been working all day. my nephew told me last minute that they would have a section at this club the engine room. When I got there I pulled up to the front and I asked him if I could come in with tennis shoes on. At first they told me I would have to pay $20 but I told them that I was not going to be there long and I was only going to be there with my nephews who has a section just to tell them happy birthday. They told me okay that I would have to get in line with them to come in the club. Cool. I got in line with my nephew who had the section in their club and they put the band on me check my ID and when I got to the front they told me I still had to pay $20 to get in because I had on tennis shoes. Really? $20 just because I have on tennis shoes why? I dont understand what kind of sense that makes. That was pure discrimination towards me because I guess I wasnt half dressed in 30 degree weather. or I didnt have weave hanging down my back? Or a dump load of make up on? I understand that clubs have certain policies that they have to follow but why do I have to pay $20 because I have tennis shoes on. If thats the case just tell me I cant come in. Not only that I was in line with one of my nephews friends and they discriminated against him because number one he was white and they claimed that he was drunk. He was not drunk. He had not even had a drink that was the purpose of him going into the club to have a drink. And the officer that was standing up there told him that if TABC comes in and sees that hes drunk theyre going to be in trouble. Well thats stupid as hell because you failed alcohol at your Club so nine times out of 10 and youre going to have drunk patrons in your Club. If I was him I would sue them for discrimination. The bouncers or security guards thats at the front of the club are rude as hell. I dont know who the short heavy-set black bouncer is but he is on a power trip. I guess this is his first time being in authority and hes using it to the best of his ability because he was very rude. Thats why black folks can not get ahead because because they get a little Authority or position over somebody and think they can talk to people any kind of way. Thats not how that works I will never go back to this club and I would never recommend anybody to go to this club. Yall need to make some changes. If yall want to go to a club or yall are not judge by what youre wearing if you want to go to a club comfortable with a track suit and Tennis Shoes on I suggest you go to the address 5015 or any other club besides the engine room. they judge you by what you have on. Im a thirty-five-year- old woman who knows the law and knows how things are supposed to be handled. Last night they did not handle a lot of situations the way that they were supposed to. As long as this club has been around its a shame that they act the way that they do. I dont recommend anybody going to this club. My nephew said it was wack as hell anyway
This club... lounge... whatever pushes an insane amount of advertising, basically spamming my email to come out for a FREE RSVP to see insert one hit wonder musician here live but when you arrive will probably not let you in once they have enough of a line to get cocky. I went here with a small group of very well dressed guys and gorgeous ladies whom had all gotten prepared for the event. They denied one of the girls we were with and several ladies in the line for not having heels and then preceded to kick out any more people who were not 21... well not 21 and not attractive as two of the ladies in our group were not of drinking age just yet but were allowed to go in. Im not even surprised at these rules considering its downtown but they were not stated on any flyers, posters, website, ad, email, nor does anyone pick up the phone. I looked specifically at the dress code and its pretty dishonest for them to change it up whenever they feel. This venue wasted our time, effort, and patience and made me (the organizer of the night) look like an ass to those who were rejected. We will not be returning... at least until the club is shut down a few months from now and bought out by someone else 😉.
Line backed out the door. They were not honoring the Eventbrite RSVP and only accepting cash instead. Very shady. Bouncer was rude and demeaning and embarrassed me in front of everyone in the line. Probably a good thing we didn’t go in because considering the line, everyone was probably packed like sardines inside, which would be against code. Hopefully they get better staff that knows how to treat people. Wouldn’t go back.
Went to engine room to celebrate my birthday on 03/31 and had the worst experience ever. I paid for a section and was never told that I had to buy 2-3 bottles to stay in the section. I was not about to buy that many bottles for 5 people. I was kicked out of my section for not buying 2-3 bottles which was crazy. They didnt try to find me anywhere else to sit even after I told them I wasnt paying that for 5 ppl.I had paid $150 for a section that I was only in for 1 hour. Then to make matters even worse I went back outside to get someone else in my section that holds 10 guest and was told that my section was full which after arguing with them back and forth that my section had only 5 ppl my guest had to pay $20 to get in. I will never return to engine room. You should not have ppl selling sections if they dont know what the full details are. I would have never paid my money to be treated like trash. If I could, o would give them zero stars! I ended up going somewhere else and had a much better time.
Went for the first time recently. It was free before 11pm, got in line around 10:32pm. The guy literally waited until 10mins before 11pm to even begin admitting people for free. Luckily I made it! Ive witnessed clubs do this many times, but not to this extent. I like to try to get in for free rather than pay $20 at the door unless its an event and not just a regular club night. Overall, the music was awesome, the drinks were a bit pricey, and it was a good time. It got pretty packed but there were no issues(arguments, fights, etc.) so I was pleased.
Not bad at all. Went on Saturday visiting from Dallas And the place was packed after 12. It was hip hop night and no real dress code. Just no hat but could wear tennisshoes. J princes son and juju on the beat was there so it was cool.
The crowd and the DJ was good. The issue that I had was the high gratuity percentage if you use a card to buy drinks. The 2nd set of drinks that I got, I did not leave a tip. Come to find out the bartender added her own tip. I certainly learned a lesson that night about ONLY signing my name and not filling everything out. Very scandalous
Booked a section for my graduation/ birthday celebration on May 12th. Upon arriving, there was already a party in my section. They moved me to the first section near the stage (smaller than my original section). I had problems getting my guest in, since we’re only limited to 10 people & I had extra people in from out of town; I asked to buy extra wrist bands so they won’t have to wait in line. Long story short not only did I waste an hr of MY big night getting people in, the door men were rude and cussed me out. I will NEVER EVER book a section here again, my friends from TSU warned me but I wanted To give these people the benefit of the doubt: Lesson learned.
Its A Nice Club If Youre With The Turn Up Life.. Women Free Before 11 But They Pick And Choose When They Use Their Dress Code.. Been There Twice.. First Time They Didnt Care If You Wore Heels Or Not.. Second Time They Turned Us Away BecUse We Had Knee High Boots On.. Dressed Really Nice And No Heels.. Smh I Think Thats A Bit Much Considering Theres Little To No Seating && Nobody Wants To Stand In Heels All Damn Night.! Honestly Thats The Only Bad Thing.. Their Drinks Are Pretty Pricey Too.!
Security and door ppl rude asf. Wanted to run to my car but still had to pay another fee to get back in. expensive drinks my crown and coke was $14. Trap music. Strippers. And Whatever you do dont pay for valet. Rather park and pay $40. Took forever to get our cars after club. Bathrooms disgusting probably wont b back here. It was live Fri night though
Its a good place if you have a section. Dont come here at ALL if you dont have a section, because theres no dance floor. Staff is friendly and the service is fast. Place gets packed after midnight. Mostly black people would be here dont be surprised but theyre what make the place LIT!
Zero stars actually. For valet parking which is actually a self service parking lot that charges $20 like valet but expects you to drive, park your car, and keep your keys UNLIKE a REAL valet service. Engine Room-Please call it what it is: A Self Service Lot w/ a $20 Fee for Promixity to the club. To make matters worse, I had to wait 2 hours to leave because I was blocked in and Valet couldnt move the truck blocking me in. THE STRUGGLE! Since I dont like being hustled out of my money or waiting 2 hours to leave when Im ready to go-I WILL NEVER GO TO ENGINE ROOM AGAIN:) I HOPE NO ONE HAS TO EXPERIENCE THIS EVER!:)5 STAR POSITIVES-Good music-live & DJ, good looking people, Scott Gertner was there, DJ Jazzy Jeff was there, Good documentary playing in background, nice atmosphere plenty of seats, comfortable temperature:)
They tried to hustle us at the door because my home girl had boots on.... the door guy told us to take of him .... now Im a bartender that is not ok especially because the website dont say anything about it being a rule that all women have to were heels hell it was cold for houston but there lost...
SCAM......I PAID THE ENGINE ROOM FOR A SECTION AND TWO BOTTLES FOR MY BIRTHDAY WHEN I GOT THE THE CLUB NOT ONLY DID THEY SAY I DID NOT HAVE A SECTION BUT THE BOTTLE PRICES WENT UP AND MY PEOPLE HAD TO PAY TO GET IN...THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I REPORTED THIS SO CALLED BUSINESS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. ENGINE ROOM DOES NOT EVEN DESERVE 1 STAR...
It coated pretty penny, drinks were pricy, kind of ghetto, nice crowd, music was cool. Not my preferable venue but its cool
This place is very ghetto and the drink prices are ridiculous. $14.00 for a makers Mark and 7 up!! Seriously place the paid parking and fee to get in. Then when you get inside you have to stand up unless bought a section. Will not be going back here.
Back in the 2000-2007 era I saw some really legendary concerts and made memories that I cherish still!! Ghetto but fun. Go with friends...support live music
Nice area and the VIP sections are nice. There was good music all night and the crowd was energetic. I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
So I booked for a section for my bday I get there the moved my section to in the floor where I was squished by other ppl and still had to come off $480 for only two bottles and that’s not included what I paid for the section but instead of them trying to work with me because it was der mistake on the reservations they brushed me to the side then they go on to charge $40 to general admission for the rest of my guest that came and they still had to wait in that long they could have at least let them come in which we wouldn’t have had a problem paying that l...engine room is over rated and they are over charging ppl I would never book wit them again I hate to see what thy charge when a celebrity comes thru and on top of that they don’t have Andy chairs.
$20 cover charge not worth it. No dance floor. Ridiculous drink prices! Dj skipped through songs way too fast!
This place is trash the bottom of the barrelDon’t waste your time or money here they lie and cheat people out of there money I was going to have a birthday here but reading he reviews with rats in the bathroom and unprofessional people was enough to make me change my mind this places is trash and the promoters are trash too they just want your money for no quality of service if your smart don’t waste time or money here I made a mistake and the money y’all calm y’all couldnt give back keep it cause y’all janky promoters need it more then me
Got super lit crowd was nice Saturday night was fun and sexy. Hookah and smoke was cool! I got laid that night.
I dont know or understand what the other people are talking about but I love the engine room especially on Sundays is always been great for me especially for the poetry
Reckless amateur bouncers. Not an ounce of respect for another human being, let alone a potential customer. Totally turned off before I even had a chance to step through the door. Would never give this place any business.
Absolutely hated this place..... Will not return! Drinks are expensive and I still never found out if t h is was 18+. Nothing but youngsters in the building
Maybe it was just the event (The Dope Art Show) but it was crowded and very unorganized. Paid for VIP tickets never even received the dinner that was supposed to be included. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!
Super crowded, was going there for the club you are required to wear heels no matter what your issue may be. Management is rude and entry is unorganized.
Wait staff is awesome!!! A Life one of the best and most consistent promotion company in Houston... They bring the stars....
Live crowd Friday & Saturday nights full to capacity. Great bottle service.... ballers convention!
Its a decent place dat bitc was live i only took one star because they put us out for dress code but dats understandable
Been there twice now and was highly disappointed, there isnt much of a dance floor, a very small space, you might as well name the place sections because the entire place is set up with VIP sections all around, which to me makes it less fun
Went there for a poetry night. It was dirty and sticky and I felt like I was at Friday night twerk fest. Such a lack of class...yuck.
Associates are untrained. No sort of organization for this venue. Gave them a second shot and it was a big let down
You at rick of cancer if u come here. They sell smoke and allow guest to smoke whatever they want (legal or illegal) in an enclosed space.
Music is off the chain, great crowd....drinks and automatic gratuity added to the drinks are extremely expensive though (they add the gratuity even when you order at the bar)
Line doesnt move and they broke our group apart so only half of us could get in.
It was very crowded and a little pricey after you wait in line for so long but overall a good place to be . Would go again
Friday nights are Lit....The latest artist perform and hang out here every Friday nite.
The poetry night was live. It is worth going to visit if your into poetry.
I enjoyed it it was my first time and it was my birthday I had a ball
Poetry Lounge is a GREAT time. DJ is awesome too
The owner or owners need to step it up. No accommodations, no website, no phone that’s answered ect... #trash
Not the same Engine Room from the past. Club needs too change its name
Not organized. They will tell u one price nd charge you another price.
Jaylnn was excellent catered to everyone’s needs . Friendly and great service !
Entrance fee was 40 for women and 60 for men.
$16.50 for one shot that’s trash......never again
