I wouldnt have ever expected it back during the Vanguard or Create years, but Academy is quickly taking over Exchange as my favorite club in LA! The building itself isnt as nice and the bathrooms are crowded, but the updates to production, service, and vibes are unmatched. Really well-balanced sound system that fully envelops you, absolutely beautiful screen and lighting design, plus killer air conditioning that is close enough to actually make a difference. Top that off with a big open dance floor that isnt oversold, great layout with nice bartenders, and a sweet back patio area with seating and lights. My only complaints are the poor value for the money when it comes to drinks (mostly ice), and the parking being a bit steep at $20 when garage reservations near Exchange are only $12. It is convenient to be able to park there though!
Loved the Coco Jones x Pandora x Delta Airlines I went to here for BET weekend in LAI have been here mostly for events, but it’s a good space to host an event…Drinks on the pricier side, but hey that’s “Hollywood” for you. Circa 2024 expect $20 for a one shot drinkAlso, parking is in the middle of a homeless encampment, so either Uber or ladies carry your pepper spray while walking up to the door.
Very beautiful building interior in general. Has an led roof panel in the main club area. When I and They charge by the shot for drinks. Cheapest drink was like $15. Thankfully they notify you when you hit around $130. I only bought 6 drinks lol. Definitely will pregame in the future.
Was there last night to see Don Diablo and it was sold out show. Not sure what the deal was with these other reviews but it was amazing. Bouncers/security were all respectful and kind as well as bartenders/staff. The sounds and lights were amazing! Plenty of space as well if you wanted to make your way forward it isn’t impossible and if you wanted space plenty of room in back. I was not in the VIP but you can tell from what I saw they really take care of the VIP booths and make them feel special. Will definitely be back!
Lost my wallet the weekend before the event, so I only had my temporary ID from the dmv, and a picture of my old license. Called in advance to see if I would be able to get in, and they reassured me I would. Well they wouldn’t let me in so I wasted time and money and could’ve been clapping cheeks back at my hotel instead
Had an incredible experience at Academy LA for NGHTMARE’s show! It was my first time at the venue and was blown away. Service was incredible. Chris took care of me all night from behind the bar. The venue was a good size and had a cool upstairs area too above the floor. The lights, sound, and production were all top-notch too. Partied til 3 AM. Will definitely be going back.
I used to love this venue but after the last few times, I have left sadly disappointed. Let me start by saying the sound system is great, the lighting is epic, and having smoking patios is great.I always get VIP tickets for the upstairs lounge and seating when I get tired. The last few times I went, either VIP lounge was open to all, making it too full for me to get any seating as a VIP ticket holder. Also they seem to have started renting out the sections of VIP with a view rather than using the VIP tables downstairs. Between these two things, it makes a VIP ticket, and the much higher price of it, practically pointless. The staff are almost all extremely rude and are visibly annoyed when you ask a question or ask for assistance. It makes the whole experience pretty awful and hard to enjoy the great music.Dont buy VIP here unless you want to waste money and get none of the perks associated with it.
It does feature great DJs but they overbook the venues, not enough room to really dance. It always feels like a fire hazard and just im often a hair away from crushing the smaller attendees. Good sound and lights, enjoy the cold air they blow onto the floor too. It needs to be double the price and half the crowd size to really make it right. Beer is not servings are 12oz at 10 dollars for Modelo... Why not pints ? Id pay more for pints but those arent even an option. I only go there with friends when theres a DJ we follow.
I used to love this place but seems to have gone downhill ever since covid. They oversell SO much, its absurd. You cant dance at all from how much they pack it. Was so excited for Cosmic Gate...the rude+junkie Chinese tourists def didnt help. I have never left a show early, made me pretty upset. Exchange isnt even like that, Ive never been frisked there. Will never again pay to enter this place.
Dabin was a pretty fun night! Venue felt spacious enough to enjoy the moment and didn’t feel the crowdedness like a smaller based club. Would definitely for sure go up here and even make the drive up since I live in San Diego if one of my favorite artists show up. :)
I was hesitant to come here based on all the bad reviews. However I can only speak for myself and my experience. I attended this venue since my wife’s favorite artist was playing and she did not disappoint. Jessica Audiffred threw it down!! As well as Artix! Less known DJ but coming up like an underdog.Yes it’s crowded, hardly any space to dance. & the restroom lines are long. But theirs a nice gentleman in there that directed us to the stalls, offered paper towels, & was very kind to all. Make sure to give that guy his tip for all the help. Also if you’re use to raves ..Or just venues .. in general.. this place was pretty good about how many people it had.Just go out there and have fun guys!!
Ive been here twice now. Its a cool place but they overbook, no room to dance, everyone is packed in like sardines. Other than that its pretty cool.
Honestly, a great venue. Saw several amazing shows here. My main complaint is they need to turn the AC down. Its been so cold at every show. Its such overkill, and we almost left early due to the temp, especially as people start to leave later in the night.
What can you say such a good night we got to spend time with some new familiar faces. The vibes are always unmatched. Very clean the bathrooms were nice and the vibe outside was fantastic very beautiful ambiance. I cant complain when we got invited to go backstage to see Gene Ferris and Pax. No complaints here.👨🏽🚀✨️🎵
I go to Academy LA for one thing: To dance to the best EDM, period. I dont go for food, I dont go for drinks, I dont go to hook up, I go for the music and the environment. The sound system is super clear. The vast majority of the crowd is cool and there for the vibes. Theres always a few that are too drunk for their own good, but thats par for the course.I only get water for hydration, and after tip its about $9 per 20oz bottle... Hey -- tip well, people. Also - I hate looking for parking in LA so much, I wouldnt go if there wasnt a big, gated, brightly-lit parking lot right next door. (Its $20 cash as of this writing, and I dont think its owned by the club. But super convenient!)All-in-all for me, its about $25 for general admin (after fees), $20 to park, I get 3 bottles of water for $27, so it ends up being $72 for 5 hours of amazing music and atmosphere.
Came to see Illenium. We had VIP and honestly, VIP isnt really worth it here. All VIP gives your is 3 drink tickets and water. No designated VIP area, seating, or bar unless you shell out enough for bottle service. Had a good time but definitely just going to stick to general admission in the future.
One of the best nightclubs in LA! The staff are always friendly and polite, the music is A-1, and the production… never seen anything like it. The LEDs on the ceiling and walls turn the club into an experience! I’ve done GA, but VIP (table) is the way to go because the staff is constantly there to make sure you have everything you need and take any orders you’d like. 10/10!
Went for a K-pop event and they way over sold the event to the point there were hundreds of people that werent being let in and even tho people who they were with the group that had there tickets werent being let in and left the venue being a total shot show. Whoever organized this event was bad and all the guards were also being unreasonable. Organizers should be fired as what should have been a club with Alot of experience looked like a total amateur on a first night opening
We saw Mitis and it was a blast. There’s parking right outside and I believe it’s around $20. It’s kinda crowded, however the vibes are good. We got in front of the rail. The ceiling is also visualizing, it’s kinda like a big screen but in the ceiling. The lights and colors are cool. Main headliners usually come around 12am so if you don’t want to wait too long come in like 1130pm instead of when the club opens at 10pm.
Good venue. Drinks are pricey though. Pre-party to save some cash or bring party favors. Bottle service shenanigans can be distracting. Parking is 20-40. Downtown venues are def better, but this is as good as it gets for the area.
Night and day experience from a few years ago. I avoided Create before due to it being packed and little to no dance room. Disliked being told I couldnt dance here, here and here. Annoying. However, that was not the case last night at Lick N Dip. Beyond what I expected from a night club, I usually do warehouse parties but this was great.Fun from beginning to end, I arrived around 11pm. Line was fast, nice and friendly staff all the way down. The crowd was amazing, good vibes all night. And great job at filtering overly intoxicated people before they go in to minimize issues at the party.(Nobody wants somebody half trashed before its even midnight in there and possible ruin my night because they want to start something. )The staff really goes along way with having a fun time and doesnt get to strict if youre hyped up during a set as long as you stay in the designated area. I remember before not being allowed to wild out like I did at Lick N Dip.The music was good, Elise Ember was amazing, would definitely go back to see her at an insomniac event. BringingLA underground energy to night clubs. Thanks for the fun night, music therapy all day and night. 🧘♂️💯♠️
Can’t dance too crowded. Don’t go here unless you like being packed inside like a sardine. Sound is too loud and distorted. Drinks are hella expensive and watered down. Security is a joke and very sexist. Literally the worst club I’ve ever been to. Greedy , overselling and a genuine example of all the things a club should never do to the customers .
Went to go see Manilla Killa and other DJs. Was an amazing club experience and plenty of room to vibe/dance your heart out.Clean club overall and enough breathing room to dance. Favorite club for EDM DJs to this day!
Been there multiple times during last year as they run lots of events with famous DJs. Its a good club comparing with the other options in LA. (In my opinion Avalon is a better club but they have less featured events). Drink prices are relatively moderate. Sound quality and visuals are the best part. The atmosphere is usually ok. Never had any issues with the security. The drawback is the clubs size which is somehow small and the dance floor is tight, especially when the show is oversold (as usual!). The neighborhood around the club is a little sketchy but it gets better as you go towards west. Parking lots are available for $20 nearby. Street parking is also available in the Hollywood blvd if youre lucky.
Place looks fun. Unfortunately they sell your spots if you’re on the guest list. Not going again due to this but wish the best for others and hopefully they honor their system next time. Security was rude too. Hoping for a good time and was disappointed in how they treated us.
Attending ARTYs set was a completely & wonderfully unplanned adveture. I had never heard his music but knew his name and when I saw he was going to come to The Academy I said why not... He was fantastic of course. It was also the first time at the Academy Night Club and I was impressed not only were the people in charge nice, the bouncers were also respectful and even got into the music lol. The only bad thing was that it did get a little crammed oh and the bathroom was pretty small but over all I was getting good vibes from everyone and I enjoyed my night out.
I was amazed by the lighting and clear sound. I like the patio alot. Drinks were good but what stood out is the Security guards, helpful when you are drunk 🤣. I tried to go on stage but the guard explained that I couldnt resonably. Atleast I wasnt pushed off the stage like in other clubs🤣 shout out to Jacob and Peneda, professionalism and class
Decent place to see a DJ perform. They have a very cool ceiling screen that displays great digitals during the sets. There is outdoor section to chill out. The staff / bouncers here are just super super aggressive and mean. You walk down the sides and they flash their lights, scream at you, and even get physical at times. Eventually it’ll turn into a lawsuit the way they treat their customers. Everyone is there to have a fun time and enjoy themselves. The security staff should all be retrained to take a step back and learn to communicate with guest properly.
What an INCREDIBLE night!!! Clubs all over LA and beyond could take some lessons from Group Chat Club and Academy LA, they do stuff right. We cant wait to go again!
Went for MitiS and will go again for Trivecta next week. Headliner came on at 12:30am and played till a little past 2am. The club opens at 10am and closes at 3am I believe. We arrived around midnight and there was no line to get in. We parked to the left of the club; it was $20 and super close and convenient. This is one of the best clubs I’ve been to. Here’s the breakdown:Pros: The screens and lights. Amazing. The screens go across the sides and ceiling, making for a completely immersive visual experience combined with the high quality colored lights shining down. It gives an almost 3D view of the visuals when standing in the back. There is also pretty powerful aircon in the back of the venue, so you can stand under it to cool down easily. My bf and I never overheated, as we stayed under it for the most part. Unsure about how it is at the front of the venue. The sound was also really good, and it reverberated through the floor too so I could really feel it. (Make sure to wear ear protection!)Cons: How crowded it gets. I don’t know how many tickets they’re selling but it’s definitely too many. My bf and I stood in the back to watch the show and we were still jostled a bit and almost shoulder to shoulder with people. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if we were any closer to the front. Luckily there is an outdoor area that’s less crowded and has lower sound volume where you can take a breather if necessary, but that means missing the visuals and live artist. I’d rather the venue be just a bit less crowded so that we could at least have a bit of space standing in the back.Neutral: Despite the crowded venue, security would patrol the perimeter to keep space clear (for the bars and for the path to the patio which was behind the DJ). This allowed for a pretty easy travel experience to and from the outside and around the bar areas despite the crowd. I’d imagine this might come across as pushy to some people, but for my bf and I we just stood a couple paces away from the bar and got to have the positive of the clear back and while not getting pushed around. My bf and I didn’t drink any alcohol (came after drinking a coffee and had enough energy for the set), and had an amazing time! Can’t wait for Trivecta.
First time at Academy. As excited I was to see my first concert after a pandemic, my one complaint was the air conditioning. There were so many people and at one point I felt like I was going to pass out from the lack of at circulation. Once I relocated to the rear, I felt ten times better and realized there wasn’t a bad place to stand to enjoy the show. Bartenders were fabulous, quick and super friendly.
First time for a Tech/House event. I liked the large patio for fresh air, restrooms were okay and easy to access. Sound and Lights are Amazing. People are very pushy but its a club so whatever. Plenty of parking next door and easy access near the freeway. Security was fine and bartenders were friendly.
Academy is always a good time. Drinks are not overly expensive. Sound is great, visuals are great.
I’ve never been here, I have a friend who used to bartend here at night when it’s a nightclub. We were a party of 4 that came for brunch with a reservation, got seated right away. Awesome server named Freddy, everything was going fine. Good live Dj music so vibe there was great but then their system went down and our orders were delayed. DLS events is who runs this day time event. I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for 14 years and very familiar with how things should be ran.So we pay and walk out to leave, this door girl asks us for a chip, we all look at each other like “what are you talking about.” She said our server was supposed to give us a chip to keep track of who walks out. Supposedly because a lot of people have just been walking out on their tab. So that sounds like managements problem not the customers. The door girl continued to be unprofessional and so rude saying “if she didn’t give you a chip then I’ll have to yell at the server.” First off, that’s completely unprofessional to tell your customers. And this chip system isn’t the most efficient way to go about people walking out on tabs. You can tell management is the problem here. You’ll have a great time just be careful on how things play out.
The bouncers were courteous and professional, the bartenders were engaging and considerate. Awesome staff all round even the inside security guys were spot on. The Dj, lighting, sound all great.
I have been coming to events for a while and your brand promoted Free rsvp before 2pm and if not after 2pm we can get in for $20 for Day Trip to see honey Luv. In your advertisement your did not specify possible restrictions if not in by 2pm when sold out. It would be considerate to advertiser that information for people whom are driving far from LA. There’s is a long line of people waiting to get in.
Turned us and about 200 other people away after waiting in line with tickets because they reached max capacity. Awful event management and organization
I have come to this event when it was the Q-topia, Vanguard and now Academy. I loved going to the back outside spot and enjoy the music and the nice night breeze but it was closed off. I was really bummed out about that and strongly urge you all to bring it back please. I have recently went there to enjoy The Prophet, Pendulum and Delta Heavy. I some how lost my Honda car key off my key chain at the Delta Heavy event which was weird but the staff had found it and I got it back. The staff is real cool and all around an awesome venue to enjoy your favorite artist. The place has awesome sound, lighting, staff and drinks. You are in good hands with Academy LA!
Went to see Geo yesterday and I loved his set so much, the bartenders are also nice but Jesus Christ there’s legit not enough space to dance !! :(
This place became the top 5 worst nightclubs to go to, along with Bootsy Bellows. I would give it a 1.2 out of 10. Its not a bad place, but very disappointing from my end. First the parking was a $20 fee. Second, the line was a 60 minute wait. Third, the bouncers didnt even know where to direct me. Fourth, the entry fee was $60, and the place was Too crowded. Im all in for a large audience but this was too packed to the point where you have no space and theres no room to dance. Plus you cant even navigate to near the front of the row near the DJs even if you wanted. I had better experiences from other clubs, raves, concerts, and parties. Fifth, this place definitely killed my vibe and I didnt even feel connected to my rhythm, let alone felt like dancing to a place that didnt live up to my expectation.
Fun place to dance the night away; lights and visuals and sound were all super. Saw Sasha there and he blew the roof off ;)Only issue for me was that it was freezing inside so I never wanted to take off my sweater even though I was dancing like crazy.
This used to be my favorite venue because of lights/led screens and if it got too crowded (which is almost guaranteed since they tend to over sell) you could go out to the spacious patio. Now that’s not an option because it’s the VIP/backstage?The only place to get air is the smoking ROOM. It’s upstairs behind the bar. There’s 2 barred windows that don’t fully open so the room is full of cigarette smoke. Honestly seems like a safety hazard. With this new setup and prices, I would absolutely not recommend going. If I could give zero stars, I would. The only good thing is the bartenders but even they can be hit or miss.
Came New Years Eve weekend to see Matroda.Overcrowded. Couldnt dance, security kept shoving those in the back into the crowd to make a walkway space infront of the bar. Had security sexual harassment not just me but a few other ladies, touching our behinds.Bartender served me a sprite with liquor(tasted like contreau) although I asked for Tequila & sprite. $17,not worth it. Arrived a little before midnight left around 1:40.
Worst club experience. Pricy ticket with the worst DJ. If making drill sound is called DJ then I guess i can do that too. Also took our friends waterbottle at the gate while they think it is predrink. Dude its water.
Ive been to this venue twice, both were great experiences! First time was still during covid restrictions and had drinks/food in the back courtyard area for their Daft Punk tribute night. Unforgettable!! Just recently attended the Flaskback night and had an awesome time inside the club. The whole production was on point. I would definitely recommend this club and will be returning for future events. 😁
The venue is incredible and unlike anything else, but the staff and visitors ruin every experience here. Staff will yell at you even if youre standing on the side looking for a friend, drinks are $16-20 for one shot and some mixer in a whiskey glass, security is aggressive with pat downs and will look for any reason to deny entry, and the floors are always sticky (even at the start of the night). The guy handing out towels in the bathroom is great though, hes always a blast to converse with.
Went in to see Infected Mushroom, the staff were extremely polite, helped my wife who was in a wheelchair get to a good location, and I noticed them on top of keeping the place as clean as one can during an event. Looking forward to the next show here.
Seen GEO for the first time he was amazing what he did was EPIC first time @academyla as well the best night club i have ever been staff welcoming the vibe was lit 🔥 highly recommended and most definitely going back.
My friend and I were driving by and saw that Create changed its name to Academy so we were very intrigued to see what was done on the inside. We didnt realize that it was their grand opening, and they had Krewella performing - tickets $50 each, okie, kinda high, but were in LA so its whatever. We get our tickets on the side and go to the front. A medium build security guard comes up to me and asks me to take everything out of my pocket.I pulled out a small push pill container and a cbd oil pen from my pocket and he went insane. He started screaming at me that I was bringing drugs into the club and that I was going to be arrested. This was extremely embarrassing because everyone was starring at me as I was trying to talk. After explaining to him that I suffer from epilepsy and that the pills were carbamazepine, (I have a prescription) and the pen was only CBD oil (cant get you high - also have a prescription) I would just put them back in my car and come back. However, he took them out of my hand, stuffed them into his pocket and them grabbed my and my friends tickets, and said, no ins and out - which confused me because we hadnt even been in yet. Another man came over and also started yelling that cannabis is not legal in CA (it is), and that because I brought drugs onto private property, they could hold me if they wanted too (they cant).I apologized to the guy saying sorry i completely forgot they were in my pocket, but he only kept yelling at me that if i left, we would not get a refund and he was going to keep my pills and pen regardless.I asked for a manager and he said he was the top manager for the front of the nightclub and the only person higher than him was the manager for the whole building, who was not there. My friend and I decided to go in, pay for drinks, dance, have a good time, but ive never been treated like this in my entire life. I use to come to create a few times a month.... but I will never go back now.CBD oil and pen $55Pack of Carbamazepine $75Tickets $100Drinks $183.24Getting embarrassed, yelled at, and robbed because of a disorder I have no control of.... priceless.
The led ceiling in this place is something you will never forget. Its almost like all nightclubs should be like this. On top of having the best talent in the world, Insomniac did an excellent job with the sound and lighting, whats new.
(Translated by Google)Aggressive security at the entrance, they looked at the documents and started picking them! Then they completely pat you down in all places, install metal detectors. There are a lot of staff who watch your every move. You cant stand at the bar, you cant stand at the tape. Move here, move here. They herd them onto the dance floor, apparently so that there would seem to be more people during filming. Beer is poured into plastic glasses 🥴 so many demands and disgusting service.
Great venue. Good sound system. The staff were friendly and efficient
This is the worst club to go to if you love dancing and comfortability. They over sell their tickets to where people are squeezing by each other and there is no room to dance. If you like being sardines, and smelling other people’s breath, this is the place to be. I do not recommend to anyone, honestly.
Security manager (who refused to provide name) imposed a 1 time rule to not allow Colombian tourists from visiting Academy LA. Our group of 6 had to get a refund on our tickets because he denied one of our family members from entering the establishment simply because he is visiting from Colombia. He couldnt provide a reason as to why he was denied. He just said he made up a one time rule and did not want to allow Colombian tourists because their nationality. Nothing short of racist. He too is an Arab immigrant with superiority complex because of his job gives them the authority he doesnt have at home with his Colombian girlfriend. Way to loose future business
I dont think Ive ever enjoyed the employees of a club so much. They were really nice and fun. I do wish they would have suggested to stop drinking earlier, i didnt feel well the next day, but thats my own silly fault. The music was amazing, i loved the lighting. Good sized dance floor but not so big to feel less intimate.Great night overall, Ill be back.
First time here. Don’t get VIP just get a table instead. Got VIP and for what? 3 complimentary drinks, NO separate seating or dance area? So not worth it! Great music, just overcrowded(understatement) I am flabbergasted at the capacity of people they allow in here. Just WOW! You’ll get pushed out into the lobby!
If you want to be surrounded by snobs be my guest. This night club is honestly terrible. Terrible bouncers with extreme power trips. Small and sweaty. Not worth the ticket price. Not to mention the drinks are extremely over priced. Basically you come here to flex and that’s it. Not sure if anyone has had an actual good night here.
Academy always host some of the best djs. The bartenders and security during my experiences are always polite. My advice is to park as close to the venue or on site due to the surrounding area’s unpredictability and safe concerns.
Absolutely the worst venue owner ever. He’s a bearded shirt guy with a huge ego. Completely disrespectful. Me and my buddies came here for a good time, only to be accused and follow by this guy. All the drinks are up charged by an insane amount, 3 shots were $100. Absolute worst experience and would not recommend this place to anyone
Great music venue which gets a lot of artists I like performing there from time to time. However minus 1 star for the seemingly common theme of my friends’ phones constantly getting pickpocketed there. I wish that there was a way for management to discourage pickpockets at their establishment in an ideal world.
The bar added an extra tip for themselves after I had already tipped. Illegal and wrong.
Really cool lighting system with big screens. Large back outdoor area to take a break from the dance floor. Quality sound.
No accessibility whatsoever. And then the bouncers held me outside to miss half the show because I was drunk and fell over when I was trying to stand to actually see the dj and since Im partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair I stumbled when I tried to get up, you know, cuz my legs dont completely work. The whole staff is the most incompetent, ignorant, and straight up dumbest people Ive ever been around. How much of an assole do you have to be to hate on people with disabilities? I feel sorry for you guys.
Nice venue. Great sound. Rude security the tall fat bald guy to be exact. Super rude and unfriendly very unprofessional. Drinks are overpriced. Youre paying $15.00 for a cup of ice. Just saying. LoL
I had the BEST night at Academy LA! This venue is on it, they care about buyers having a good time extremely genuine and respectful ! I was looking for the patio and the security escorted me through crowds to help out, seriously impressed and also felt like a boss. Shout out to the entire team especially JACKIEEEE THE MANAGEERRRR , the sweetest most dope never get rid of her hehe . Thank you thank you thank you !
Amazing sound system and lights, beautiful venue. One of my favorite clubs in LA, and probably the world. Highly recommended
Simple venue for its intention. The music was great, sound quality and lights were great, but the venue was very packed shoulder to shoulder for Steve Aoki’s performance. This is to be expected, but it’s very claustrophobic in the room and it gets kinda musty. Also, the drink prices were outrageously expensive. $46 for one drink with two shots in it + a water bottle. So, pregame before you arrive.
Finally a club done well - parking guides, coat check, fast entry both in the door and at the ticket check, lots of fast and adept bartenders, proper but not overbearing security. Lighting, cool air and unobstructed walkways straight to the large patio that also had a bar. Heat lamps would have been nice but in CA that doesn’t matter much since temps are usu high enough at nite. And additional ladies bathroom also would have been nice. Paul Van Dyke rocked the house for hours on end!
Just wanted to give a shout-out to the GM, Erick. Extremely professional and helpful last night. Thank you for helping my friends and I with the wrong tickets . We appreciate you personally taking care of us. Always a good time at the Academy! Will def be back next time in LA.
I had a drink in my hand. Granted, I should have thrown it away. I was told to throw it away by one of the security guards. I did, and after, I was told to leave the line, and that I wasn’t able to come back for an hour after throwing the drink away. Terribly ruthless service and overall a**holes working the lines. Inconsiderate of the people they cater to, and they make sure the eff you over by telling all their coworkers of your “transgressions.” Would not come back here unless an artist I really loved came by here. Awful service. They couldn’t have been more mean, despite the crowd they aspire to bring in.
One of the best nightclub experiences that I have ever had that had been crippled by some of the most unprofessional staff I’ve ever seen. Most of the staff were fine but just two bad apples easily ruins the experience for many (paying) individuals. I spent over 300 dollars the night that Cheat Codes performed (July 18, 1:30am) and two bouncers (I don’t know their names) were so disrespectful to my friend and I. All my friend and I did (my friend was sober, I was moderately drunk) was ask where the bathroom was and they literally shoved both of us outside and prohibited us from coming back in. The bouncers did not give me an opportunity to ask what was going on and why we were kicked out. They just didn’t care and interacted with us in the most dehumanizing way I have ever experienced. IF ANYONE AT ACADEMY READS THIS, these individuals need to be FIRED OR DISCIPLINED. I no longer trust this nightclub if the hiring and training process allowed these individuals to step foot, let alone work in this building. This behavior is unacceptable especially given the increased LA County Covid restrictions that were in place as of this Midnight. These two bouncers (one around five foot seven inches (speaks Spanish fluently and broken English and the other several inches taller who likely spoke English ) were not wearing masks and physically shoved us without wearing gloves, putting other people at risk. It is people like this who create conflicts in this world through sheer unrefined impulse. I don’t care how busy or stressful that night was you CAN NOT act this way ever to people. WE ARE ALL HUMANS SO TREAT US LIKE ONE.I am requesting a refund for this horrid experience and will never be returning unless something drastic is done regarding this incident. I will actively tell all of my friends and family to avoid this venue and look elsewhere. There is a reason why this place has so many one star reviews on Google so take a look and see what’s up.
This venue was awesome!! Super fun club!! The overhead lights add an immersive feel! Seeing Vicetone here was an amazing experience!!
Always a spectacular time enjoying a Subtronics set especially at this memorable venue. The led covered walls and ceiling make it a one of a kind.
The staff is always very friendly and they bring aboard the best DJs every week!
Last week I went with a friend to The Patio at Academy LA and it was SO FUN! All the vibes, seriously; the decor is beautiful, the DJ was playing amazing upbeat music, and the food was good. The waiters and waitresses were attentive and everyone there was having a really good time. I plan to go back this weekend for brunch!
Nice club with good music. The sound system and lazers are awesome but the club gets too packed. You dont have room to move or dance. Plus the drinks suck and the bartenders are rude especially the girl with the short hair. I waited forever for a drink and when I got one it tasted just like water. I would only go back if someone I really wanted to see was playing.
Love this place. To me it feels small and intimate compared to other venues. The LCD screens go all the way across the ceiling, which makes you feel close to the stage no matter where you’re standing. Does get VERY crowded near the stage, especially when there’s a big name performing.
This place is sick! We went for Nero in September and had a blast. It was pretty packed, but even towards the back the sound was great. We were able to make our way up to the front about halfway through the show, and it was a party.Really like the patio too, met a lot of cool people back there. It was a cool place to be able to get away from the madness inside for a little. The only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is the price of the drinks. I only bought one round for my girl and I(2 shots and 2 drinks), and I woke up to a $95 charge. Im assuming thats just how it is at Hollywood clubs. Will pregame a bit more next time. Will be back for sure, regardless.
I go to this club quite often. They tend to have the guest list before 11 PM deal. Just make sure that you are IN LINE and maybe towards the front by 11 PM to guarantee free entry. I did once come here and the line was all the way to the end and could not get into the club since it was packed. This was for the DJ, What So Not, by the way. It was also the week after EDC so maybe many people had EDC withdrawals and so overall there was a huge turnout at the clubs over the weekend. Its a possibility. I like the outdoor area since you can socialize and theres a lot of space to just sit down. The indoor area is spacious, but I would say that Exchange LA is a bit more spacious? I dont often frequent into the hip hop room but I believe it is a nice place. The crowds not bad, either. And, the lineup is pretty good. Comparable to Exchange LA.
Very fun and live spot for EDM music. Not my favorite music but the experience is still a great one.The setup and sound system is fantastic and we had a great time.Drinks are $14+ unless you want Budweiser.
Im not sure why the rating is so low at Create. I go to a lot of shows and after coming here to see Yellow Claw, I have to say, its now one of my favorite venues.Everything is so easily accessible, they have ushers constantly keeping the aisles clear. Plus, they have a smoking patio with a no-wait bar where you can easily hear the set. Not to mention the fact that you walk right past the DJ to access it!I cant speak for the club on normal operating conditions, but I can say I would come back to see a show with excitement. The crowd here seemed to be more laid back and concerned about your experience rather than a BS Vegas club experience where you have to wear uncomfortable clothes to see an overpriced show.Great job guys!
Create is a weird nightclub to say the least. Its very dark; the service was fairly unfriendly and there were strange acts going on around such as dancers in various animal heads near some of the dancing poles. Drinks are also priced normally as in any nightclub (+$10 for most drinks). The dance area itself is pretty spacious though and the acts they have are pretty fantastic. We saw Madeon for our trip and the sound system, lights were all well-done. Depending on what direction youre coming from as well, you may miss it so keep an eye out for a giant black fabric or people going into a warehouse-like building.
Security is way too overzealous in keeping the walkways clear for the table service traffic that they create a very stressful and unpleasant environment for the GA people. You have almost nowhere to stand to get away from the main GA mob. They won’t even let people stand against the walls in the back.
My friends and I travelled from out-of-state to see our favorite DJ at this venue. We waited in a 50 minute line and we all had our negative COVID-19 tests to present at the door, but all got denied. Apparently they changed their COVID-19 regulations (requiring vaccination records) JUST PRIOR to us arriving, which would have been fine but they didnt inform us via email or anything. So we showed up, all ready to go, unknowing of the newly imposed rules here. The manager that night seemed understanding and promised us all refunds within 4 days. However, its been two weeks with no response for a refund for our tickets. They got our $260 without even letting us into the event. Would give 0 stars if I could. What a rip off.
Decent size place with a large outdoor area for smoking and cooling down. The sound system is killer in the front, and still pretty loud in the back. The drinks are club prices so $15 and up. The bathrooms could be bigger. Id definitely go again though.
Went for a funeral was pretty cool as a venue
Club Create does have an amazing sound and light system. The CO2 canons are awesome, and the girls that work there look good too. A few issues with the club though, they do over pack it. They cram way too many people in there. The drinks are way overpriced. One Bud Light cost $8 dollars, cheap mix a drink is $16. In my opinion if the drinks are gonna be that expensive there should not be a $30 cover charge to get in. I did go to the bar I handed the bartender $20 for a Bud Light. She gave me two dollars back. I sat there for a while and looked at her, then she apologized and gave me my $10. Now I wouldnt have added this, but it did happen twice. So I feel as if you do go there, you should pay attention. Also, my friend was told that they were going to serve him unless he tipped the bartender. I was not there for that so I cannot give you my word that that happened. One last thing. I did have an issue occur while I was in the club. I spoke with someone about it, and they did take care of me. It did take a long time, but the issue was resolved.
Drinks are stupid expensive. But this club usually gives out free guest list you can find them if you look online. They have some world class talent perform. The place gets packed really no place to dance. Cool and huge smoking patio only place you can talk. If you can afford it I recommend getting bottle service.
We arrived late, around 12:30 am after all tickets were sold out SO the greedy securities and the VIP service people tried to sell us tickets for 125 per person! What do you call that ?There are no clear prices for tickets and VIP tables. Unlike any other nightclub i went to,the price changed 3 times in 5 min (goes UP). It seems like everyone is putting his own price or let’s say THE PRICE THEY WANT.I didn’t see how is it inside to be honest, but if the outside was DISRESPECTFUL then I don’t want to see what is inside. For the review to be clearer, this place is racist, they saw my green PASSPORT and then they decided what the price should be. I felt sorry for them.
It was a great place until EDM became this popular. Now they oversell tickets and you can not even move in the venue, let alone dancing or using the restrooms .. If is unenjoyable and dangerous!
My experience was amazing. I am used to paying $20+ for a drink, isnt that the price everywhere these days? I hate waiting in line, so bought VIP tixs and problem solved. I found the staff to be very helpful & accommodating. Dance floor is huge as well as the smoking space outside. I will continue to come back, keep bringing in my fav DJs.
Wish I could rate as zero stars. This place was AWFUL. Do. Not. Go. Try Sound or Exchange instead. Heres what happened during our night out...We attended as guests and everything about this place was completely disorganized right from the start. Not to mention, just about every single staff member we encountered was EXTREMELY RUDE. Everyone seemed to have an attitude problem. What ended up being the cherry on top was when we were standing at the bar behind the main stage for 20 minutes. Finally, when we caught the bartenders attention, he barked a short Ill be right with you. Fine, I get that its a Friday night and its busy. As soon as he cashed out the party he was with, he skipped RIGHT OVER US to go to someone who had just walked up. Outraged, we obviously exclaimed that he skipped us! We were then told that he had a system and his system is to go right down the line and then start over again. Ummmm, clearly your system doesnt work, buddy, or we wouldve had our drinks by now! Then, when I asked the bartender his name he said Im Troy, you can tell them Im the only black bartender. Thats cool man, not sure why you needed to pull the race card, but apparently he felt it was necessary.Long story short, this place is a disorganized mess. Save yourself a bigoted bartender and a rude staff and spend your money elsewhere.
Ive been here twice, both times were a great time. No drama everyone was there just having a good time. On my second visit though I had been pick pocketed for my glasses in my back pocket as I was leaving the dance floor to the bar. The place does get packed but what do you expect when everyone is there to see a well-known dj perform ! Ive always thanked the security guards everytime Id leave and theyd be very respectful with a homie handshake. Also ! Drinks are expensive bought 3 mixed drinks for 44$ so Id suggest pre gaming before entering !
Staff has always been super friendly and professional. The sound and lights are great! Bartenders have been cool and Ive never had any issues with them. Every now and then theyll bring great DJs
A club which usually brings good EDM artists, the only reason I ever go, because they host many Insomniac events. The bar is a very hectic process here and also pretty expensive, $6 for a water bottle. Most of all, I hate the layout. They keep a very narrow rectangular dance floor with opening on sides making it really annoying to find a nice spot. Security is very strict with keeping walkways clear adds annoyance. There is always a bathroom line. The only reason I dont give it one star is because they do have quick entry, but also an annoying pat down check.
Academy LA is just a reboot of Create Nightclub that was bought out by Pasquale Rotella.Theres a big giant A on the exterior of the club as their brand and the interior ALMOST looks the same except the LED screens on the ceiling, sides of the walls, all throughout the club give you massive Tomorrowland trance stage vibes.TICKETS / GUEST LISTI highly recommend buying tickets for the club unless you like subjecting yourself to guest list and being there SIGNIFICANTLY EARLIER THAN 11 (its not arrive by 11, you have to be inside the club before 11). There are several promoters out there willing to give you a promo code to reduce the cost of your ticket, but if its just a group of ladies it might just be worth it to get on guest list or ask for a comped table.PARKINGThe club itself has its own parking lot but I like to park just a little bit further down at the public parking lot at the intersection so that I dont have to deal with the traffic of everyone leaving once the club is closed. Depending on the night, the lot can cost $10-20 since it is also a shared lot with The Fonda Theater.DRINKSDrinks arent extremely cheap here but they arent very expensive. They do serve Fiji water bottles here for $7 each if youre trying to stay sober.DJ RESIDENCYOverall, there are a lot of great, talented artists that perform here since it is part of Insomniac. The most recent experience we had was with my favorite DJ, Audien, and despite it being NYE Weekend, we easily made it to the front and had ample space throughout the night.CLUB FEATURESThere is a second floor to this club that overlooks the stage and dance floor. Since the renovation, the tables above are on the railing so if youre up there and dont have a table then you wont have the best view but it will still be a lot less packed. Note that there is also a bathroom up here and a bar from what I can remember. There is also now a much larger outdoor patio which they use for their dayclubs. Overall, the renovation was very well done and I was very impressed.BATHROOMSThere are 3 bathrooms in the club: one in the very back of the club, one at the outdoor patio, and one upstairs. Choose wisely!--Overall, I loved my experience here and am glad that it was renovated to Academy LA. I definitely plan to come back here for another show.
It was a very good club, very loud, but the music wasnt so great until the headliner comes on. ALSO a redbull and vodka will set you back around 18$. I highly recommend the smoking patio though! Really amazing!
Went here to go see bassjackers have been wanting to see them for so long . Brought a few of my friends most of them it was their first time at a EDM scene. It was So overly crowded couldnt get anywhere! And then you have security guards yelling at you to keep walking and you dont even know where youre suppose to walk to. And takes forever to get a drink. The ticket was so overly priced for the experience I got payed $60! You can tell this club is just in it for the money and not the experience because of how packed it was they werent planning to sell out of tickets just keep selling and stuff everybody in there. I couldnt even keep my ticket because they were going to reuse it. Honestly wouldve been better off going to DV8 which is and 18 and over club youd think a 21 and older club would be better organized. Wont be going back there again.
My worst club experience ever!!!Some little facts about this place that can spoil your evening and fun easily:1) All mixed drinks(cocktails) there are very fake, disgusting taste & very overpriced !!! 2) Bartenders in lounge bar inside are unprofessional: they will make your drink horrid to the taste and it will cost you 24$!!! (for just 1 drink!) It was my first time when I tried such a bad drink for such a great money!!! Especially asian looking girl (unfortunately dont know her name) in lounge bar - she dont even know how to make your drink properly and she is very rude and has a bad attitude...Thumbs-down!!!3) Besides that parking there is also crazy - self parking is $10(cash only) but if you will give them $20 bill - you will never get your change back - as they say because we dont have any change at all! ...Really!!? ...full parking lot and they dont have any change! (thats such a shame to make the tips this way)...This place is just horrible - that was the worst club experience ever!!!
The worst experience ever in Hollywood!! Do not pay to be harassed by bouncers dressed as D bags! They lie when the box office opens and make you wait in line over an hour. They over pack the club until it is a fire hazard and you cant even move. It feels more like a prison than a club. I was the only blonde in the club besides the escorts ;) It is dark, the decor is laughable, the bar was going to fall over it was so rickety! It was an EDM Dada Life performance and everyone was wearing black! No true Ravers!! No Love!! 2 drinks $44 plus tips!!!! Extremely Disappointed! Will Never Return
Wow, what a nightmare. My friends and I are avid fans of edm, and look forward all week to see our favorite artists play at many different clubs. We booked a floor side table, confirmed and reserved by the promoter, and showed up 15 minutes early to get seated. We waited an hour outside in line only to be told our table was given away to someone else who paid more. Only if we would double the originally agreed on price, would they allow us in. Dareh was the manager and was extremely rude. He was yelling in our faces, demanding that we just pay thousands more or leave. While Im sure this a savvy business model, wait for a high demand night and increase the price on the spot for more money, but it is extremely deceitful. I also assume he gets a cut of all table costs, so he can just renege on an agreed upon price to line his pocket a bit more. When a business loses integrity, they lose regulars. They forever lost our business, now and forever. Wait until your favorite dj is playing at a different club. You will save your money, be treated with respect, and will save you the embarrassment of being yelled at for no good reason.
Worst nightclub that I have ever been in my whole life
Great patio area, but the dance floor is painfully small. If a mildly famous DJ is playing, theres no room to dance, only stand. Drinks are priced nearly at Vegas prices, and they used to have a really shady policy of not accepting card without a minimum of $25 spent.
Venue is dope but the bartender at the front bar (male) is the reason for the -2 stars. Over charged our drinks, go to the back bar! Those bartenders and vibes will have you feelin right!!!!!!
Worst staff/security I ever seen. On security check I forgot that I have pocket knife on me and when I remembered about it I was okay to apologize and exit. Instead what happened security checked me and stole my knife. I was telling him give it back to me, but he was denying that he took anything. After it, without saying anything he went outside, I tried to follow him but another security guard stopped me and asked what’s going on. I explained everything and in a min they found that guy and gave my knife back. Also if you want to buy ticket at the entrance they will rip you off, because online it was 20$ and at the entrance they were charging 50$.May be inside it’s not too bad, but their customer service killed my desire to go there
Fav club. I used to spend every weekend here when it was Create but Academy owners have made this into the ultimate Hollywood hidden gem for edm music. The patio has been a god send for this pandemic. The brunch with house vibes and live DJ was the best. The food was not bad either. Also...mimosas. Pricing was a $$ out of $$$. But worth it.
Create is a big nightclub that brings in a lot of international Talent. The drink prices are generally overpriced no matter if youre ordering domestic or imported. The dance floor is overly crowded and they had a laneway which is great around it. Unless youre standing in it , if you are you are physically pushed without warning by the bouncers to move.
Tall bartender with the full dark beard is unprofessional. i asked him for the price of individual shots and he looked at me as if Id killed a newborn baby deer. and then started to ignore me and my lady. short white blonde girl is nice and fast. might I suggest some customer service classes or maybe the EDD unemployment line for the tall bearded guy who hates his customers, I sell houses for a living and that kind of rude customoer service behavior is unacceptable. besides that, music is good. drink prices are par for hollywood. venue size is a bit small. might come back if someone good plays, if not Ill probably take my business to Avalon where they appreciate me and where the bartenders are attractive and nice. happy partying! regards,
I really like this club. they have some nights where they give tickets away with promo codes or giveaways etc. and it gets really packed. other than that its a night club and you will be bumped into once or twice. the music is loud and the people are for the most part cool. it seems to me that there should be a bit more security though
Hey,I am not a review writer but had to shout out for the opening DJ at your August 17th show >>> SHOUT OUT for Blackbird!
Extremely BAD experience during Bingo Players gig! Bouncers terrible, 2 bathrooms between 1000-odd people, drinks terrible and expensive, insanely crowded and people filled over capacity. Also my friend got his phone and wallet stolen in the concert and the bouncers said that it is not their problem. Extremely bad management! These people do not respect your business, so Id rather go to another club, which actually appreciates my business.
Create is a great nightclub..... If you want to go out with friends and have a great time come here the sound system is great but if you want to be catered to and dont want to wait in a long line get on the promoters VIP guest list or get bottle service. For the people saying the wait is long ... yeah it is but that is like in all other Hollywood clubs. If you dont know anyone than you need to wait. thats that but they always have great DJs playing and its FUN! thats my 2 cents!
I went there for the Colorize’s Colorscapes Vol.3 tour. While the visuals are top notch, the club seemed to love EQ-ing their bass to the max. Colorize is specialized in progressive and emotionally deep house music, and the extremely excessive bass just completely ruined their songs intended atmosphere. The subwoofers (12 of them according to their tech spec) was so powerful that it vibrates the body and pierces the ears. You probably would like it, but I don’t and the vibration made me physically sick. Also, it seemed that the more people on the dance floor, the louder the speakers seemed to get and every sound mashed together and became unbearable.
Saturday Jan 21 was my birthday! Jax and ethan + bartender hostess were all amazing . You made my birthday a success! i had such as gr8 time the music catered to everyone, fun mature crowd beautiful scenery vip section and the table set up was beautiful i will definitely return and would most definitely recommend this club to all the mature adults who like to have a good time!
The first thing I noticed was how orderly everything was. (There are sections for people to stand, and white lines on the floor, which allow you to easily walk from section to section.) There is a video and intelligent lighting system, but there seemed to be only one drop stimulation: cold fog. Im hoping they develop additional stunts to avoid it being a one trick pony club. All in all, a clean, professional space.
Glad for all your reviews. I have not been there but due to the negative experiences people had I will not be going there until they fix their customer service issues. I do not go out often with my wife and when I am out I do not drink or party and go for the music. If the venue is ran poorly I will not be giving them my business.
Music is great and should have tons of fun here. However my phone was stolen here last time. And at least four other guys lost their phones. And the security guy at Academy can not do anything to get it back. I was wondering even if there are monitors inside, why nobody could catch the thief / stop it.TIPS: Girls, do not bring your WOC/any bags. Do not put your phone in the bags. Boys, do not put you phone in your pocket. Instead of that, GRAB your phone all the time.Self Parking: $20.
Rude staff. Negative atmosphere. Horrible customer service. For a place that tried to sound upscale-casual as it claims on their website in the dress policy, it has unprofessional and rude staff running it, garbage customer service, and is filled with a bunch of 20-25 yr olds on X and bumping into each other. I suggest going somewhere else other than here to anyone who asks me ill be sure to mention this place as a do not go to list. Also, My friend was turned away at the door for wearing shorts (we werent aware there was a dress code at the time as it was our first time coming here. We knew it had bad reviews but decided to ignore it...our visit confirmed for ourselves all the negative things ive heard about Academy LA.) but when my friend returned after running from store to store late at night in the rain after buying a pair of pants from a walgreens pharmacy he was told rudely that he could no longer enter. The fact that the security there thought it was funny for my friend to return with pants and then tell him the box office closed two mins ago so you cant enter but its your fault it took so long to find pants anyway. is rude and highly unprofessional. Not to mention the other two security at the door found it amusing and funny that my friend came back. My friend was humiliated and treated as if he tried to start a fight or something. For a place that has a dress code and trying to be upscale-casual, it has staff that does not fit the setting. Horrible customer service, rude, unprofessional, and me and my group of friends will not be returning at all. Like i mentioned above, if you like being talked down to by greedy arrogant and sarcastic staff and like bumping into 20-25 yr old guys on X then come here. Otherwise i do not and would not ever suggest this place to anyone else.
Paid a grand total of $54 for a parking spot, a beer, and a ticket to see a garbage DJ play Garbage music he has been playing for the past 2 years. Not only that, the ignorant fools dressed like secret service agents stole my pipe. So lets throw about $25 on top of that, already, ridiculous price tag. Since it is not illegal to have a pipe in CA, they had no legal reason to do so. I hope the place burns to the ground with all those DBs in it. Oh, yeah. They only had Grey Goose and Ciroc which is overpriced garbage like this venue.
Venue is sick and sound system is absolutely amazing but the location is pretty butt. Smaller Venues have way better crowds for sure but if u can get passed that its pretty good.
Disorganized, unprofessional, racist. I showed up Saturday night with three friends for an event and was told at the front door I could not be let in because I was wearing shorts. I was the only one not let in so I asked if I could speak to someone about this policy because I saw other people there with shorts on. I was told I cant go in unless I had pants and there were no exceptions. I figured ill find a pair of cheap sweatpants so I left and went from a cvs to walgreens one after the other running around. It was late and it was not easy finding a pair as not all cvs/walgreens carry sweatpants etc. After finally finding a pair I returned only to be told I could no longer enter because the box office had closed two mins ago. TWO MINUTES AGO he said. I couldnt believe it. The two security guards standing by thought this was funny and laughed. Angry and frustrated at this point I asked to speak to a supervisor and was simply told no. Two more of my friends showed up and one was even wearing shorts and both were let in after the box office was allegedly closed. I asked security about this and they said it was a member thing or VIP thing or some bs. my friend was actually the one to point out to me that I was the only one not of caucasian descent of the group. I am of asian/hispanic descent. It was my friends who had pointed this out that the club was mostly of Caucasian descent. Like are you serious? What are we living here in the 1950s?? Stereotyping was something that didnt even cross my mind until i really thought about it. I was humiliated and disgusted. I do not suggest this place to anyone. Could not think of any other reason why i was not let in; if because of the shorts why was my other friend let in who also had shorts? If it was the box office closed why were my other friends let in? This place is a joke. If this is how they are thats just pathetic and sad. I shared my experience with others and will continue to do so. If the outside of the place was this rude, disrespectful, and judgmental I dont care to see what the inside is like. What a waste of my night, my time, and money. It was a horrible experience and i regret even coming here. None of my friends are coming here again either because of this. They all left early for me after hearing i could not get in later and Asked my other two friends who came after the box office closed and they said they had a ticket n confirmed that there was no vip/memberthing or whaever that allowed them to get in. I am infuriated. Screw this place. Seriously. Id put 0 stars if i could. Ive never had anything like this happen to me ever before.
The bouncers, the bartenders are all unprofessional pour light drinks with lots of ice priced high pretty much don’t come here unless you need to see someone you like that’s performing but the staff is trash
I love this venue! The music is great, I’m so happy they have AC because being in a crowd does tend to be hot. They are finally putting riddim/dub shows so im definitely coming here more!!!
Amazing staff/security. A/C was on full blast all night. Definitely coming back for another event.
Went to see cash cash and horrible experience. Way too crowded for the venue, the cheapest shots were around $15, the secuirty were clearly overwhelmed and everyone was getting more rude and agressive because of the sardine-like crowd. Ruined my night! I will never go back, not worth my time and money.
This goes out to the manager at the academy..I’m not sure who they think they are humiliating a friend of mine in line because they had anti depressants with them thinking they were narcotics, but no one deserves to be treated that way. Shoutout to thee worse manager at a club. Probably the worse decision he’s ever made to humiliate her. Never ever will I, my 300K followers, her or her 2.6M followers ever attend the academy again.
Went to see Dada Life in December of 14 and it was a blast. the reason for the low star review is because of the low quality of the sound system. Many songs were unrecognizable and the subwoofers were barely noticeable when the drops came. everything else was great though. Not recommended for EDM music, it feels like more of a top40 club
I use to come to create with a great pleasure. But now when they renovated the whole thing, it feels like its the same create except of the sealing...P.s. music is too laud and lights are too bright. Often I would bump in to people because I would get so blinded by the lights that I would not be able to see anything. I dont think I would come here often. I rather save my health for future fun in other places.
Yeah, it might have its ups and downs, and the girls with the SUPER WHITE LED Grey Goose bottles are ruining the show, it still is a great club in terms of production and lighting. Saw Arty there and had a blast despite the GOOSE GIRLS..
Academy LA engages in deceptive business practices. Bartender by the name of Dina K has slipped in extra charges onto to my bar tab without me knowing. This is fraud and my only recourse now is file a fraudulent claim with my bank. I will not be returning to this venue nor will I patronize any other Insomniac event ever again.
Contacted the club to get a table for my daughters 21st birthday and was told one price but when it came time to style the bill I found out they had not been honest and it was a huge amount more. The fees and extra charges alone were a thousand dollars. I can’t tell you how surprising this was and how overpriced it was. Don’t go there, it’s the biggest scam I’ve ever seen in Hollywood.
The bouncer said I couldnt take my vape juice in, and then told me he would let me if I tipped him. Sketchy. Then I threw my vape juice away and put my arms out to be searched and he smacked my vape out of my hand and broke it on the ground. He was just like sorry. After that ordeal the inside of the club was nice and the bartenders were on top of it. But I just couldnt get over the shake down at the front door. Only go here if you really wanna see a dj that is playing here.
Awesome venue with great music. It gets super hot when it gets packed. When you are there when it just opens the AC is blasting and it is super cold. Not much they can do to get it much cooler I assume for when it gets crowded.
Love coming to this place. The staff was great, music was killer and the crowd had a good vibe, despite the cold and rainy weather.
We got a table next to the DJ but there was no service of any kind. The security was really stubborn and won’t let my friends come sit with us even tho we only have 6 people and we paid for 15. Also they took our alcohol at 1:54, we said we want one last drink but the guy took them anyway. The music was okay but the staff there kinda ruined our night.
This place is a joke. Just another classic scam of an establishment. They make you buy a ticket then give you every reason why you can’t enter AFTER the purchase. This “club” is a waste of time and money.
The security outside are rude and Ive witnessed first hand them being very judgmental and arrogant whilst refusing entry to people. People come here to have a good time, seeing them treat others this way gives off a real negative vibe. Its unprofessional
The drinks are a bit weak and pricey but the air-conditioning is very strong so it was comfortable even when it was packed. The lighting is nice.
Take care of your stuff. iPhone got stolen there.
Small space... when mainstream DJ comes out very very over crowded cant even move.. second I like the outside patio good to socialize. Third I like the free guest list they do but make sure your in line b4 11pm. Beers are 8 dollars its the mix drinks that are pricey ...
Some friends brought me to this club a few years ago. The staff were troopers with the busy crowd and the patrons were so well behaved. L.A electric at its best. The sound system there makes my nice home stereo look like a Fisher Price close and play record player.
One of the worst clubs Ive been to. Not only is it a small venue, they over sell tickets and lick people out for no reason. Last night I got kicked out and legit the guy had no reason and bc of that he let me in 30 mins after and told me theyre too busy And packed? Like is that my problem or what
I havent been back to this location since they were called The Vanguard, and that was YEARS ago! The Revamped version or better known as Create has def fancied up with a better center stage for the DJ and amazing light shows, reminiscent to Vegas night clubs. My gf works for the JW and often gets hooked up for comped tables and we finally were able to join her randomly on a Thursday night. Host and servers were super sweet, and actually made some delicious fresh watermelon juice shots. I could of just took those shots all night if I didnt have to wake up at 6 in the mornin. But hey YOLO!
Place is very cool high tech, so many people wear funny looking sun glasses
Took a trip Friday night, some light skin (security guy) put his hands on my friend and tried to kick her out because she was “in the way”, the guy laid hands on her first and then all of the other guys tried to kick her out, it was super disrespectful and I hope all of them get fired especially that guy(he wasn’t too big either) Never returning Again. Worst experience ever.Plus people steal from your bags. No no honey. If I could give zero stars I would.
Great air conditioning!! sound system gets a.....C+. an upgrade is overdue ;)great beats... crowded and..... no light toys allowed....strange for an electronic club. glad it exists :)
I have been in the best clubs all over the world but never been treaded this poor. The cashier needed to do a ID checkup... I am in the middle of my 30th, give me a breack!!! So she called a security guy who asked me my date of birth (really? This is your check up?)!That procedure was quiet discriminatory.Dear CREATE, that is shameful!
This place was so unprofessional!! I made a reservation 2 weeks ago and when I went tonight they said they didn’t have my table ready I would have to wait 1hr and 30 min and also the girl with the Ice cream cone mask she was also unprofessional she said she couldn’t get us a table unless we spent 500! Don’t waste ur time please go somewhere else not worth its
Literally the best club in la. Amazing sound system and visuals!!! Everybody got some rooms to dance, unlike other smaller clubs in la. Incredible clubbing experience!
Nice venue for EDM, no doubt. It can get pretty hot and stuffy in here, but then the smog blasters come on with the bass drops and you are surrounded by cold, refreshing, rejuvenating air.
The Asian lady bartender at the bar closest to the entrance gave herself extra $2 tip. I ordered a long island $16, and a jack and coke $13 and it was weak AF. Beware of this scam and save your receipts. Marking up the tip because you want to is stealing from the customer!!!
Was not hot. Even though completely full.
Literally one of the worst experiences, service is horrid
The sound is great and the DJs too, I dont drink so I dont know how much is for the drinks... Sometimes in Saturdays its so crowded, but its OK, a lot of asian people here
My wife and I love coming here. The programming is solid, the screening rooms are just the right size and the lounge chairs are very comfortable.
This club captures the spirit of EDC in a room. Super friendly staff, great talent, great production and effects. Great time all around!!
Really small, way too crowded. And no I dont enjoy it when people rub up against me the whole show. Not when Im not trying to dance with them but in this place you barely can.
Overall great nightclub, its mostly used as a venue for popular Djs and events hosted by insomniac. The upside is that the club has two floors with a bar upstairs and one downstairs.
Beware of their prices. ABSURDLY overpriced!
Fun atmosphere and good DJs when they come through. Dance floor gets a little too packed but the drinks are just the right price and the night is always fun.
One of the best night clubs in LA. It has a large dance floor and tables around the perimeter. The music is blaring and fresh air is blasted through the club throughout the night.
This and Avalon are the only major EDM clubs in Los Angeles. Buy your pre-sale tickets online or just online the day of to save some money!Drinks expensive as usual...No drunk driving, always a checkpoint.
Nice but crowded place. People work there are little rude but due to the crowd i guess. But nice place a really nice place you should visit
Been here to see plenty of big and small DJs over the course of this year and it has yet to disappoint. Great service at the bar, no hassle from staff, great crowd and the sound system has been excellent since Ive been going. 🙏🏻
They oversold the club by so much presale wait was 2+ hours..absolutely terrible experience. Will never go back. I ended up just leaving once I got fed up. When I left, at least 200 people behind me in just the presale line.
Need more room for dancers people standing around in the way is annoying but overall good venue
You can go there and have a out of the world amazing time and its ran by amazing staff that are involved and make sure its a safe place. But fun as hell.
The bartenders will ripp you off be careful I was charged a 30% gratuity without my consent because I paid with my credit card and I reached out to the general manager and he denied what his staff did when I had proof on my credit card statement! I will never attend again!!!
Ive been here a few times, usually with a table in the balcony, and each time is pretty fun. I love the free chocolate covered strawberries and tacos!
Lost both my phone and wallet here. I think this place is notorious for pick pocketing because I know a lot of people who lose their stuff here. Ive been to other clubs and even at Vegas and I havent lost anything. But I went to create and I lost both phone and wallet in one night. Never again.
I lost my car keys here at a event on a Friday night . I communicated with the venue during the weekend and I was able to get my keys on Monday without an issue :) very helpful staff! thank you!
Amazing music perfect for chill electronic show
Great event venue 👌🏽
EDM club, run by SBE and insomniac the creators of EDCLV. Expect DJs from the top 100 list. Local up and coming DJs will play from open till the headliner comes on between midnight and 1230.
4 stars for coming back with a better line up after dipping a bit with its djs and fostering an awful club crowdbut march and beyond look promisingrelatively hassle free given its ticketing system. staff always friendly
Great location I personally haven’t had any issues great shows
First time here, not from the area, big insomniac fan, save your time &money lbe aware of some short tan skin guy. Mike Im assuming. Dissprespectful, totally unprofessional for it being insomniac lame 0 stars if I would, pasquale hire someone better ! Losing bunnies b
Awesome place, the bar is always full. Bartenders is overwhelmed with the number of people. But overall good music.
Great atmosphere, great music, great service. Dont espect quality food. Id come again for the good vibes and drinks.
Best EDM clubs in Los Angeles, nice staff and great visuals. The atmosphere and crowd is one of the best I’ve experienced !
Gets really crowded tough to find a spot to watch the DJ within being in the middle of the action the drinks and bottle service are vegas prices but a good venue for some good music locally
Love the venue.Surrounding area needs to be cleaned out tho. To many homeless in the area
