Loved this place. Stopped in for a late lunch, shared the popcorn chicken with friends and had an ice tea for myself. Such a fun atmosphere and lots of love for a fun lesbian/queer establishment where there’s 1) food and 2) lots of non-alcoholic drinks. Highly recommend if you don’t drink but want a bit of that gay-establishment experience!
Wife and I swung by for a work session. Staff was super friendly and the food was on point. Good non alcoholic options are available and the bathroom is gender neutral. Theres a wall of post-its folks have left and the level of trans positivity and sapphic joy on those notes gave me all the feels. Cant wait to go again!
I came here for lunch by myself while visiting LA and the atmosphere was inviting and lovely. I had the brunch salad with avocado and it was 10/10! Also the bathroom is practically more of an indigo girls shrine than a bathroom (i mean that as a compliment of the highest form) Not only was the food and staff wonderful but the general atmosphere felt like such a safe space.
Absolutely ecstatic to find a femme-centric queer space! Even more exciting is that is actually really good in multiple aspects. The environment is chic and beautifully decorated and the food was wonderful. Can’t wait to come back and I hope more people find this place.Big bonus in LA: PARKING.ETA: I went during lunch time on a weekday which may have contributed to the ease in parking and welcoming feel of the venue. Will add info once I have a chance to visit on a busy night.
I really enjoyed this place. I was looking for a spot to work on my wedding planning and a lot of cafes were closed (since it was 4pm) and had this place pinned. Parking is.... Minimal. It was quite full for an early Tuesday. The wine bar is fantastic. Menu is cute, happy hour has fun selections and the music was top notch.
Finally a lesbian/queer bar in east Los Angeles! With West Hollywood really migrating away from womxn friendly spaces, I am so happy a place like this has made its way to Silverlake! The food was great with lots of vegetarian options. The wine list wasn’t lengthy but there were unique choices to appease lots of palates. Definitely not a place for beer drinkers - 3-4 light options only… but the mocktails are excellent! I recommend not trying to park in the lot as space is super limited.
I had so much fun watching the World Cup with my lesbian crew yesterday. The TV was on- it was hard to see from outside but if you bring a tablet for outside then your all set. Food was surprisingly good as well. I didnt expect a bar to serve good food but I enjoyed the unique burrata with fresh herb and wine. Ill be coming back here again soon. There are only a few lesbian spots in LA so we were ecstatic to see this place thrive. And we even spotted a lesbian blog host of Yall Gay- What a fun evening. My parents use to own a restaurant and they would tell me that you can judge a restaurants cleanliness by their restroom. And the restroom was clean and Indigo Girled out lol. Benefits of going to lesbian bar- clean bathrooms- woot-woot!
I tried this spot 3 times hoping to like it. They have nothing to offer me.My suggestions: stop doing community events. Stick to being a cozy spot for dates to drink wine with music and conversation.I go for the community events and i receive 0 service from staff. Never even been acknowledged or offered a menu. There is usually nowhere for me to sit inside or outside due to crowding. I have ended up just standing in a parking lot for a while before getting bored and going home.
I really want to like and support this place as a lesbian. The non vegan items look amazing, so it’s really unfortunate when they put in substantially less effort into their vegan options, especially with the stereotype of sapphics being vegan. I once ordered fries a minute before happy hour started, and the waitress didn’t tell me about the happy hour special or charge me a happy hour rate. It was only a dollar difference but it felt really shady. All the food is overpriced. The wine tastes pretty awful and is way overpriced. Their trivia is obscenely overpriced. They’re not very friendly with their male presenting patrons, and I’ve heard that a lot of BIPOC individuals have had bad experiences. They host cute free events at times, but unfortunately the place is so small that most people have to stand in the parking lot and can’t participate in the event. This is not their fault, but something to point out if you want to attend events — go early. They have a cute board you can post sticky notes on. All in all this place feels like a cash grab banking off the novelty of it being a sapphic space. I wish that it was more accessible, as it feels like it’s primarily serving the privileged population.
Avoid this place like the plague. The owners are rude and two-faced. This is a lgbtqia bar so if you dont fit into that box they make it clear that youre not welcome there. The staff is rude and the drinks are way overpriced. Ive gone a couple of times and both times have been bad experiences.
Edit: Thanks for the response, Roob. All valid points and I appreciate the effort you’re putting into creating a welcoming queer space and responding to feedback. I still suggest reassessing your wine pours.Rating is based on wine price and pour. They serve you the smallest glass for the highest possible price. Tough sell on a wine bar, though a cute spot for a bite and a beer. Food is good and yummy, but riddled with add ons that can get expensive. For example, I’d love if the burger came with fries instead of it being an add on. See response from owner for details on why pricing is how it is.
Servers were so lovely! Food and wine was incredible - great portions for price. Highly recommend the California orange honey wine (recommend by our server). Sapphic energy on point!
What a great bar. I love the community vibes here and the service was amazing. Great drinks too. It gets busy so you may not have seating on a weekend. Decor is nice.
A wonderful atmosphere with a friendly and kind staff. The natural wine selection is fun, not a huge list, but thoughtfully curated. All dishes we ordered were great. Favorites: Salmon Crudo and Green Salad. With two glasses of wine, a main, and small plates to share, the total bill came out to $80 a person. Not a cheap evening but a joyful night out.
The Ruby Fruit is a place where I feel like I can breathe and truly relax. The wine here is delicious and the bartenders could not be nicer or more welcoming! Truly a rare space for this community and worth a visit if youre from out of town!
The best hot dog and fries I can remember ! Good draft beer by a Local Brewer. Friendly chill atmosphere. Highly recommend ❤️❤️❤️
I came at 3:30 on a Friday and met someone there. That must be when the shift changes, because we ordered food and drinks, and then watched the bartender just completely check out. So much so they pulled cash out of the registered and fanned themselves with it. Two other employees came on shift, and neither seemed particularly interested in working or acknowledging our presence. In fact, the old bartender and the new bartender leaned on the back of the wall with their arms crossed just talking. NO ONE checked on us for OVER AN HOUR. I desperately wanted more ketchup, but nope, no one even paid attention. We finished our drinks and would have gone a second round or even third, but nope, the conversation was more important. And wherever the second bartender disappeared to, she was never to be seen again then entire time we were there. I didn’t even finish my fries because they got cold during the HOUR I waited for a bartender to acknowledge my presence for some damn ketchup because the fries were covered in so much salt they were inedible without the ketchup. When we finally flagged down a bartender (again, after AN HOUR), she literally gave us a “uhuh” look and kept chatting with the old bartender for another FIFTEEN MINUTES before she came around to check on us, and when we asked for the check (because she never bothered to ask if we wanted more of anything or notice our drinks and waters were totally gone and our food was cold, only respond with a curt “you ok?”) was quick to circle the part of the check for the highest tip amount. On top of that, they charge a “security fee” - like lol what? There weren’t any security guards and there’s no explanation whatsoever of what is purportedly being “secured.” Bar is clearly playing off the novelty of being a lesbian bar and ignoring and overcharging their patrons. The food, besides getting cold because I couldn’t get condiments, was awful. The “vegan” food tasted like rubber and the fries, as I mentioned, were so salty they couldn’t be consumed on their own.
We truly enjoyed our visit to The Ruby Fruit while in LA. The food and drinks were fabulous, the service was great and parking was ample.
What a gem, I stumbled on this place while visiting from out of town and felt very welcome. A lovely chill place to have lunch on a Monday, hopefully Ill make it back for the wine bar sometime!
Great place for wine and for some tasty food to go with it. Very chill and relaxed atmosphere
Very pleased for this opening weekend, and incredibly excited for whats to come! Especially happy to support and be amongst my community.First off, the food was phenomenal. Dont sleep on the cabbage for the rest of the winter. Absolutely sublime. They apparently sold out of their whole menu of wine on opening night, so they were operating on a backup list for the night. But that said, even with a blind tasting of the options: they have great taste.Looking forward to coming back. My girlfriend and friends would love to make this a regular stop to start off a lovely night. The staff was all extremely lovely, and being around so many others like us was so ambiently fulfilling.Dont be afraid of the strip mall. We recommend parking elsewhere and walking or even taking the bus. Walk around the neighborhood if you can, its a great time.
Came during Happy Hour. Will definitely be coming back. The prices were great given the quality and quantity of the food.
Lovely and welcoming atmosphere. Kind and friendly staff. Good drink options. Great place for a quick stop.
Very happy a lesbian wine bar opened, we really need one. Cute spot, wish it was cozier. Please start taking reservations, it just felt stressful for everyone. Please work on acoustics. We were Screaming to hear each other. The Pilsner was great. Curly fries were good, smoked beets were good. Burger was inedible, too salty. Apparently the hot dog was not good. Mainly it just felt tight and loud. We ended up taking our drinks into a handicap spot to be able to talk, felt like tailgating. I hope eventually the owners make some space between tables and with reservations it can feel calmer. This review was left by a group of 6 people, all agreeing.
Came all the way from Australia to see the gay girl bar but it was a snooty vibe. Not friendly service so I left quickly
A cute little lesbian bar with the BEST vegetarian food in town. get the Impossible cheeseburger taquitos, trust me.
I am ecstatic that there’s a lesbian bar in LA! I’m visiting fromSeattle (no lesbian bars!!) and felt thoroughly at home at The Ruby Fruit. The staff are superb and feel like helpful friends. The vegan hot dog was A++++. I’m not typically a wine person but the wine options were so tasty. I love their focus on queer-owned business collaborations. I’m not eating inside for Covid reasons and found the quaint outdoor area wonderful. I still felt part of it all! The clientele are hot too!!!!! Ok yay happy opening I love it here.
Perfect spot in the day to hide away with a friend and catch up over a drink/food.
This was the best hotdog I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m a ketchup, mustard and SWEET relish girl and instead of relish they had chunks of cut up sweet pickle spears. Brioche bun. Crispy shallots. Seriously I’ve never had a better hotdog and it’s one of the foods I’ve eaten the most. Vegan option available (which is what I got) and it was probably the best vegan one I’ve had as well. Didn’t leave me feeling gross like some of the other fake meat on the market.
Just stopped by for the first time. Drinks, chicken sandwich, service, and atmosphere were all delightful. Cant wait to go back!
While I love the idea of this bar and having a great place for lgbtq+ to meet. I really wish they had a better selection of wines. Especially being deemed a wine bar.
Absolute best tuna melt I’ve ever had! We had 3 in our party and everyone loved what they ordered! Do yourself a solid and come check it out!
Immaculate vibes. Would recommend to any queer people looking for a regular haunt.
Charging customers and extra percentage on their bill to cover the cost of your loss prevention staff is ridiculous. It should be absorbed and reflected in posted menu prices.
Lovely, intimate atmosphere & great natural wine list. So happy that our queer community has this space now. I’m going to take many future dates here!
Interesting they had non alcoholic wine!?Price was a bit much for such tiny portions. Its cool there there exists a lesbian wine bar though
Absolutely loved everything here. The menu is somehow indulgent, delicious and healthy all at once! Yummy, unique wine picks.
Awesome wine list. Staff is INCREDIBLY friendly. Food is on point. Vibes are queer. Hotdogs and bubbles. What more could you ask for? 💕
Super nice, beautifully designed spot. Egg and greens bagel sandwich is my favorite. WE LOVE RUBY FRUIT.
Great humans buzzing with humanity! Love the logo👍😉😍
Wonderful inviting atmosphere which was helpful because it was very full when I arrived. Found a seat at the bar and made friends!
Super queer-friendly, of course! 😘
Tasty food, friendly, efficient service and a great atmosphere.
Dont go for happy hour and expect to get anything decent to eat.
Awesome lesbian bar !!! Small and cute!
Great food, beautiful space, good vibes.
