Drinks are expensive and dance floor usually gets too full fast. Restrooms are nasty and designed terribly for common decency. This place will never get a 5 stars in my book.

Great spot for country music. Hung out with Matt Castillo and his team and the vibes were great. Beers were cheap too!

Had a great night but it was rudely interrupted by the manager at Hills. I witnessed the manager push a band member and get in his face about the band playing tejano music. Rustic Rose was playing their last song of the night and had the crowd packed in the dance floor. Never going back to Hillbilly’s again. It was good while it lasted. Unprofessional!!

Last night was amazing! RUSTIC ROSE got on stage and did what they do best. Bring a smile to people faces. In a 24 hour notice the place was needless to say packed. The people there were the same following I see every week at thier shows. The amazing part is that we all in some way became friends by showing up and supporting the band. The singing, dancing, and laughing was so much fun. Until on the last song! Too top it off the bands set was over, but we (the fans of rustic rose) basically everyone in attendance. Requested another song and the band played it! The dance floor was full and everyone was screaming and yelling. Just plain having a good time. Then I witnessed the manager come from across the room and dart for the stage. He was yelling at the manager of the band who remained calm the whole time. I guess the non reaction from the manager of the band made him mad even more and he went on further to push the Rustic Rose manager. One of the band members got off to what it looked like to separate hillbilly manager from his. Who had his fist in ball and got back on stage and stopped the music mid way through the song. Even after that scenario still thanked hillbilly for the opportunity told the fans they loved them and told everyone to drive safe. How crazy that a packed house, people enjoying the music, and making memories. Was not enough for the management to put his ego aside and not throw a tantrum on the band playing to much tejano!

It’s not often we get to make the drive down to Hillbilly’s because it’s quite the distance, but when we heard Rustic Rose 🌹was finally going to play we knew we had to attend. House was packed and dance floor was full. It’s usually a great time there. Unfortunately it didn’t end so well with Hillbilly’s Manager pushing the bands manager and ending the show. Extremely unprofessional, and not something we came to watch. We’re good followers of the band and like I mentioned, made the drive down just to come see them perform, and for them to be disrespected due to song/genre choice. Sorry, but won’t be heading there again. This could have been handled very differently amd no need at all, as the crowd enjoyed the performanceRustic Rose 🌹 keep doing you 🙌🏼 Performance as usual was amazing, and looking forward to see you guys soon in a different establishmentMuch love ❤️ Can’t wait for the single to drop 🎵

The management was beyond inappropriate and unprofessional. Rustic Rose was playing and the crowd was loving it. The crowd asked for an extra song at the end which the band was happy to do. The management from Hillbilles apparently didn’t want any more tejano music so they assaulted a band member. How can a manager be this unprofessional to assault someone for giving the people an extra song for free. While this happened the entire dance floor was packed and the crowd was so happy. I will never be back to this place.

While enjoying a great local band, I witnessed an employee engaged in what seemed to be an argument or disagreement.The music stopped and the said employee pushed one of the band members.Very unprofessional and extremely rude.Won’t be swinging by anymore!

I would recommend going there but they do have reasonable price for drinks ❤️ It’s so worth it the dance floor I was really looking forward it’s the best it was my first time and I fell in love with it I’m coming here more often ❤️❤️

Thoroughly enjoyed Rustic Rose show last night from beginning to end. Dance floor jammed backed with EVERY song. Hadnt been there in years-forgot its magic. Well be back every and any time Rustic Rose plays there!

After what I witnessed last night (6/17) the owners or management are straight trash. Unprofessional and take advantage of their local bands! The Rustic Rose band packed the house up like i havent seen in awhile and for a band memeber to be physcally assualt is crossing the line! I hope no other band plays there again... stick to DJs

This is the first time experiencing poor management in the worst way possible. You have a business to uphold, and to have one of your employees physically assault a member of the Rustic Rose band crossed the line. What was accomplished by him doing that? He didnt agree with the choice of music and resorted to viloence. This band is very well known in the RGV. They are humble, kind, and show nothing but respect to businesses they perform at and to their loyal fans. Rustic Rose packed the house!!! The vibe of the people dancing, laughing, and singing along to Rustic Rose was phenomenal. Its unfortunate that this had to happen and due to his actions your business will lose a lot people.

I used to love Hillbilly’s. Last night I was in attendance and it was extremely packed. I happened to witness a manager/security of Hillbilly’s push the Manager of Rustic Rose Band who was playing there, because he claimed they played “too much tejano”. I felt scared. The band had to stop playing the last song midway. It was very unprofessional of what I thought was the “Best Country Bar in South Texas”. That is also assault, what a disappointment. If there was a change of management, I hope they reconsider.

My boyfriend and I went last night for the first time and we had an amazing time. Staff was friendly and very attentive. We will definitely be going back soon.

Man the night was going great the band Rustic Rose was performing and it was packed! On the last song while dancing with my wife I witness a Hillybillys employee push one of the members of the band for playing tejano. I follow this band and met all the members and theyre all humble and nice people. Its really sad to see them treated this way. I will never support Hillbillys again

Place was pretty awesome! They have a live band and lots of people to socialize with. I would recommend if you trying to country dance.

Its super fun! But you have to either know how to dance country or be willing to, if youre just into clubbing like downtown, let me tell you its a completely different atmosphere! Everyone dances, the music is great, just make sure to wear a fresh outfit & boots because it gets super crowded! You dont want to risk tripping with heels! Safe environment overall.

This place is genuinely one of a kind for our area. The music is always great, and the small dance floor makes for a cozy experience. Diverse crowd of all ages. Younger (more packed) crowd in wednesays for college night. The owner and staff are always on top of everything, Jacob (bartender) has always taken great care of my friends and I. If youre looking for a good time go to hillbillys!!

Ambiance is nice but I have to ask for DJ to play a bit of everything, the people the attend is youngsters from the 80s and 90s that grew up with American and Spanish music and would like to remember the good okd days at the Alaskan or Club x…!

Was there last night was having a great time listening to Rustic Rose, then apparently the manger pushed a member from the band and killed the awesome vibe.

Girls are hot, drinks are great, the DJ is absolute garbage. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE play a song that people know. Nobody is singing, nobody is dancing because we don’t know your music ! You are the only person that is rocking out to your playlist

Only country club Ive found in McAllen. Live music was great, dance floor is small, bartenders were great but the prices were crazy. Looks better on the inside than the outside. Theres a cover charge too.

The atmosphere has a country feeling but, not much if the experience. If love spending money on overpriced drinks then this is the place for you. I recommend, going to another country bar, and if there ist any open up your own you might do better then this one. The only way to enjoy this place is if you come toxitacted.

Theres a cover charge, the dance floor is too small, The mens urinals are almost touching each other, its too damn hott, and the minimum charge credit card policy sucks! Also they always seem to run out of pitchers around midnight so you have no choice but to buy over priced longnecks.

Its alright. The carpet is gross, the dance floor could be a lot bigger, the seating could be redone, and the bathrooms arent disgusting. Other than the decor its your regular college bar.

Awesome place for live country music, parties or a casual night out. Ambiance is upbeat, great service & wonderful waitresses & bartenders. Highly recommended! Love the place!

So Last night was my first time going to Hillbillys, I was reading the reviews and i saw some nasty negative comments but let me tell you I had a BLAST!!I have to be honest though, in the beginning I was a little iffy about it.. was so sure I was not going to like it. but I was totally wrong. Great people Great music and Great drinks. and dont get me started with the cowboys in there.. over all.. it is a great place to go have a blast at. RECOMMENT IT 100%!! Cant wait to go again.

Great place for country music and dancing. Descent list of drinks to choose from. There is a service charge and no food is served here, but great place to hang out and dance.

This bar is awsome ! The music is great! Staff and people are friendly and the prices are reasonable. The crowd is also not your typical valley bar crowd A++++ All around.

Best place to listen to country music and the excellent local bands from the valley and hosting new up and coming talent and well-known country musicians. Stop by and have a great time with family and friends.

The 4 star instead of the fifth is that it was too smokey inside for my taste and drinks were slightly more expensive than we thought. Music was good if you are into country.

Hillbillys is an RGV treasure for a reason! The waitresses and bar staff are friendly and fast. The drinks are strong and the beer is always cold!If you love country music and havent been to Hillybillys, youre miss out!

First time that I attended. Place has nice environment, music is great, that day there was a live band and it was lit. Definitely worth going.

DJ NEEDS TO PLAY MORE MODERN MUSIC, and music that people want to dance to. He just plays his kind of music.
