They drew us in with the three for one (it expired by the time we finished the first three). Dilly, dilly! We stayed for hours. Live music inside, a gorgeously tucked away, New Orleans courtyard and a bull riding opportunity outside. Chellie, at the outside bar, was amazing and looked out for us all night. What more can you ask for? One downside was the woman in the bathroom who sold, among other things, the only soap to be had. They might want to work on that.
Great happy hour deals, and the drinks are tasty and refreshing. The bartender made up drinks for us, and they were delicious and went down dangerously easily. We went in the mid afternoon, but with the mechanical bull (aka swamp thing) and the girl tooter shots (replace t with h and you get the idea) I could see the place being a drunken mess late at night. If thats what youre looking for (and who isnt on Bourbon Street) then by all means make sure you stop by!
I have been to this place both times I’ve gone to NOLA. I think it’s a “must” bar and one of my favorites, if not my favorite on Bourbon. They always have a hype MC that’s fun and energetic. They have a lower level and an upper level with 3 for 1 specials. They also have a nice outdoor patio with a mechanical bull that is always fun. The bartenders are nice and give fast service. I recommend this on your list of bars to visit . Cheers!
The upstairs can be rented for a private event. The balcony is right on Bourbon Street, great location. The staff is laid back and nice. Theres a mechanical bull on the first floor. Its not an upscale place, but it is fun!
The music selection was spot on for a Friday night, a good mix of old and new. Warning, the shot girls are really aggressive and the shots are disgusting. Bar pours friendly and prices are in line with the rest of the area. Still, the best bar on Bourbon Street.
The swamp was so awesome we literally went there all 4 nights of our stay! It was mostly the staff we loved! Brown Sugar (excuse me for not knowing your actual name) was the best experience we had during our entire stay!! This woman is fun and freaky! She knows exactly how to finesse people lol. We loved her so much! We visited her 3 times during our stay! Sarah was friendly and fun! The manager, Mike was very sweet to us as well. Cant wait to come back!
Very good deals on drinks. They have a balcony, so remember to bring your beads!!! One of the outside bartenders was extremely disrespectful however. Manager was extremely helpful when told about the problem. Overall a pleasant time.
It was fun on the bull. It was pretty dead otherwise. Many people had fun watching ppl on the bull. $5/ 3 rides. If you dont til the bull controller you will fall off pretty fast.
Good music. There are two levels. When I was there the DJ downstairs was more entertaining, however, the dance floor is small and cramp. Upstairs felt a bit bigger and AC flows better also has a balcony area.
This place is nuts! Always a party, always music whether a band or dj, they have a mechanical bull, and like 6 different bars so its easy to keep the party going. Amazing happy hour.. i think it is 3 for 1 and it goes pretty much all day and some of the night. Happy hour goes all day and night in the upstairs bar and they also have a balcony on Bourbon street... if youre into that sort of thing. ;)

Great club on bourbon street.As usual in this area, be careful of your stuff. Friend had something stolen here but that is not a representation of the bar but rather the patrons.Shot girls can get a little aggressive, but have one, as it is pretty fun :)
Stay far away from this bar. The drink girls will shove weak poorly made drinks down your mouth then demand a premium price for said drinks even if it wasnt your intention to drink them. The management is very rude, I was kicked out of the bar for NOT allowing 5 girls to skip in front of me after waiting 45 min to ride the swamp thing. Overall terrible experience. Theres much better places to go in the area.
Best bucket beer happy specials we came across on Bourbon street! You pick if you want to be part of the party inside or hang out and chill on the patio bar. I appreciated the options because i wasnt trying to go all out at noon. Lol
We were enjoying a cigarette outside when a girl who was selling shots came over to us. I told her I didnt want a shot because I was going to puke. She insisted and forced shots on us. She then said We owed her 20 plus tip. Warning. They will take advantage of you. Becareful in there

Bartender was great...cute tattooed Tulane chic...great attitude and we enjoyed watching LSU win Natty here. Lots of space and multiple bars. The noisy Clemson fans calmed down towards the end as LSU took the victory which made it better.
Listen to what everyone is saying about the shot girls! There was one girl who would not leave my friends and I alone and kept forcing those syringe shots down our throats. She would literally walk up and refuse to take no for an answer. At first we said, “Yes we’ll take 1.” so she would go away as we were just trying to relax and enjoy our time, and she wouldn’t leave! She was pushy and rude and I will never go back.
I’ll never forget “The Swamp” bar! I was crazy drunk and having a great time dancing like I thought I knew all the moves fell on the floor and kept on dancing right there laying on the floor like it never happened and got back up dancing for hours! I love New Orleans! It (and probably the alcoholic drinks I consumed helped some too lol) helped me break out if my shell and dance in public for the first time that wasn’t a couples slow dance or a two step! I knew I could dance and I LOVED every minute of it even though people laughed I didn’t care I laughed with them and hugged them and we all had a great time!
I love this place. I was in new Orleans with my brotger in law sunday night around 6:47pm... He and i lost each other. Because we were tourists and are from mobile al, i did not know anyone and the fact he had my wallet, phone and id. Two amazing wonderful bartenders, Kirsten and the man who looks like Ross from friends (sorry i dont know your name) helped me out the whole night (after they got off work obviously lol i had met them while wandering about ), they stayed with me until my siblings came and drove three hours to pick me up.Even when they didnt need to look after me, or didnt have to bother with me they still wanted to make sure i was in safe hands. They are hands down very sweet and very down to earth ! Thank you for such wonderful bartenders and humans!
You can ride a bull for $5 how awesome is that. Beer is same price as everywhere else. You can spend tour time inside or our. Lots of place to hang out. Bathrooms where clean and staff was nice.
Customers be aware if you decide to ride the bull. Unlike in the pictures, there is (was) no padding around the base of the machine. It was my first time riding a bull so I just assumed the establishment would take all precautions. I fell off and hit my shin right below my knee hard enough to split in open. A couple days later, my foot turned black and blue from the disruption in circulation. The injury wouldn’t go away and I had to tank a whole running season. 7 months later and hundreds of dollars in medical bills and I’m still dealing with this. It’s shameful for an establishment to cut corners and put their customers in harm’s way. Had it been my head hitting that iron, I probably wouldn’t have walked away.
Awesome place! Music to get you moving, good selection of drinks, and a mechanical bull (The Thang!) nestled at the back of the courtyard bar (with a cool, friendly bartender). Have some drinks, shake your rump, and RIDE THE BULL!!
Shot girls were way too aggressive! “Britney” shoved Jell-O shots in our mouths while we were just dancing and minding our own business. Then she wanted $42 “cash only” and steered my friend to a nearby ATM, and then stands next to him pressing buttons. At that point I had to take over (fearing what she’d do next). When I told her we had to pay with a credit card, she wanted $120. Of course I refused. Just trying to avoid a scene, I went to the bar and paid the $42 and then told her to stay the hell away from us. In the next minute I saw her starting the same scheme on her next victim.
Live local, ride my bicycle down here to hang with friends who work on Bourbon. Love to sit on the balcony and chill. Watch those shot girls, though, lol. Hey, theyre there for fun, but you gotta watch them. Its a bit of showmanship, but it can get expensive fast. There are a number of bars inside The Swamp, so if its too busy at the inside bars, go outside!
I was just there for a birthday party Sunday, September 30. We were a group of 15. I ALWAYS go to The Swamp when in town. However, the courtyard restrooms were completely out of order. One was covered in vomit. I opened the chain rope to use the restroom upstairs which I had already been doing prior to the chain being connected. As I was using the restroom, someone opened the door and I could hear a walkie talkie. They closed the door but remained outside. Once I opened the door, I was accosted by a terrible woman yelling at me. She kept saying, YOU NEED TO LEAVE NOW! I explained why I was up there and she continued to yell at me. She also kept telling the bouncer to get me out. My concern was he was going to grab me and force me out the way she was yelling. Thankfully the bouncer was a kind young black man and helped me get away from this crazy white woman. He never once put his hands on me. I politely asked to grab my husband and friends so we could move on. He kindly obliged. I will NEVER return to this place. Now as for the bouncer, thank you kindly again for being so kind. I could see the discomfort on your face. DONT let her force you into doing something you know is wrong. Youre a good man!
The stairs had bottles and cans on them causing my friend to fall. I told the bouncer, and he just shrugged his shoulders. He then proceeded to check IDs. I think safety should be first when you have people that become extremely intoxicated traveling up and down a steep flight of stairs. Be careful in heels, ladies. I wont be back!
Place is fun and I enjoyed the ambience. When we we were leaving, however, one of their bouncers or security guards literally threw this very intoxicated older man to the ground, almost hitting us. The bouncer guy was maybe in his late 20s and this man was definitely at least 60 years old and it was clear that this guy was personally offended and took it out on an inebriated man. It was horrible. The guys face was oozing blood and the bouncer just stood their trying to look intimidating, instead ofnapplogizing and trying to help him. I really felt bad for that guy and it ruined my day in the French Quarter. Watch out for security guards if youre drinking. Especially if hes around 30 years old and has a lot of tattoos.
Patrons are awesome! Was down for my friends bachelorette party, everyone made us feel very welcome. Someone bought my friend a ride on the swamp thing. Hilarious fun!
We were carded at the door and the bouncer kept our IDs claiming they were fake. We had literally just been there about an hour before this, I still had a cup from there in my hand. We live in Mississippi and they were convinced that ours and another group of about 4 guys who arrived after us all had fake Mississippi IDs even though we didnt know each other. Had to get the State Troopers involved to get our IDs back. Her and I both have respectable careers in our community, where we check IDs all day. We dont deserve this.This place used to be one of our favorites when we went to the French Quarter. We will never be back again.
3 stars for OUR experience there, it was DEAD, mainly because theres construction in the street so the balcony was USELESS as there was nothing going on in front (big thing in NOLA are the balconies). Drinks were ok, overall vibe was ok, probably wouldve been 100% better if the construction wasnt happening. Should we return, Ill surely update!
It was pretty fun, more of a younger crowd but thats due to the DJ playing mostly newer songs. There is bull riding in the back. The most hilarious thing ever to see drunk people get on it and fall off. 😂😂

This place is terrible! The bouncers asking for IDs at the door do NOT know what they are doing or what to look for on an ID. My group is from Alabama and they had the nerve to say ALL of our IDs were fake including a military ID and police badge... if you are from Alabama, don’t waste your time trying to go here. Plus the music was not good..
Waitresses are slow and rude. Drinks are WAY OVERPRICED. Music is great if you want to dance to hip hop/r&b. The mechanical bull in back is fun for $5.
If you are looking to get harassed by the shot girls, this is the place to go. I was not impressed by the staff nor the way they handled themselves when asked for my change back. I essentially got assault and probable swindled out of some money by employees there and regretted coming in the first place. A standard bourbon street bar with loud music and nothing authentic.
Id been to the Swamp on three different occasions but the last was the worst. My girlfriend was discriminated against for being a queer, gender fluid woman. This past Friday, my family and I visited the Swamp to meet up before wedding rehearsals. Wed been there for over an hour, leaving and returning. The last time my girlfriend left and tried to return a different man at the door wouldnt let her in. Thats fine, even if she had already been inside FOUR times, because establishments reserve that right. But, after my girlfriend asked another gentleman to pass word to me about not being let in, she was assaulted by the gentleman working the door. This is unacceptable. My girlfriend was so distraught, I didnt get a chance to speak to a manager nor call a cop. I will NEVER return to this establishment and I encourage other black gays not to as well.
My group of friends and I were hanging out in the back area by the bull (that part was fun). A worker came up to 2 of my friends and asked if they wanted a shot, they replied no, and the worker responded that some of my other friends paid form. My friends then agreed to take them since they were paid for so they accept and consume the shots. Immediately after she walked up to those other friends and demanded payment for the shots. Everyone was confused as to what happened and we did not want to pay for them because nobody had agreed to. Management ended up getting involved and the best they could do was half off. We begrudgingly paid but do not recommend going back. Or if you do, do not accept any shots from the workers unless you are willing to pay for them prior to taking them
Cheap drinks with good specials!! The place struggled to stay Lit, Poppin with customers. A handful came in at one point and got busy but didnt last long. But the music selection and drinks was on point. I guess people didnt want to stay in one place!

They wrote our card numbers down and then tried to spend $1200 at Walmart. Thank goodness my bank caught the issue before the transaction was complete. Needless to say, this place is awful.

It is truly a swamp. If you go in you have to force your way out. There was some racial prejudice. the shot waitresses were so aggressive and wouldnt take no for an answer. Will not ever go here again

Fantastic DJs mixing the hits youre used to dancing too.The downstairs is packed with gyrating people, while the upstairs offers an alternative space to dance or get a drink.Like all places in the French Quarter, drinks are high priced.
GREAT stop on bourbon street was there over summer for second time in NOLA. Bartender Simon was awesome gave us great info he even stayed in Long Island during Katrina so it was cool to talk to him about that maybe ride the swamp thing while your there!

The SWAMP! Had an incredibly large hurricane here. As far as novelty drinks go, it was pretty mediocre. But it was strong as hell. The balcony on the top level was pretty cool. Beware of the shot girls in the courtyard, they are pretty obnoxious.

The Swamp is a large club featuring a mechanical riding bull. Guest DJs play dance pop, hip-hop, r&b and old school jams. No cover charge and the drink prices are reasonable.

Security was horrible!!! First they would not let us in with our drinks, and when my boyfriend went back without a drink this white, racist security guard told him he could not get in because he had on camouflage pants. Seriously? They were just looking for a reason not to let us in.

All me and friend were trying to do was get our drinks back that we ordered. And they threw it away IN FRONT OF OUR FACES. So then we asked for our Water bottles back that they threw away (Dasani) and he put it on a counter and we said yes thats our Bottles. And he literally SLAPPED it back in the garbage. Then he poured us an inch maybe half and inch of water and me and my co worker were like WTH and he smiled and SLAPPED THAT IN THE GARBAGE...... AS IF WE WERE STREET BEGGERS (Or Homeless) ..... And we had enough money to buy whole bottles. So I fussed at him. And he proceeded to jump over the counter (bar counter where he works) and physically fight us .... Hes white chubby and shaggy hair.
