Super comfy bed. Powerful air conditioning all throughout including lobby and lifts. Super fast lifts which is incredible for an old building. Rooms cleaned daily and cleaned properly. Reasonably quiet, for NYC! Beautiful postcard view from balcony. Great customer service, even when faced with issues - every member of staff went over and above to make us happy and comfortable. Thank you so much for a memorable 6 night stay!
We love the location of Westgate Grand Central in NYC which is convenient to all transportation including the Grand Central terminal and I would have loved to give it a 5 stars but feel the need to be honest by pointing out a few missteps as to why we had to deduct a couple stars hoping the management would improve the situation and we would love to come back. The newly renovated room is attractive and semi spacious, the bed is super comfortable, the location is great, but why they overlooked a few details such as us finding major black stains/ thick dirt caked on the wall of the shower, the towel bar inside the shower fell off while we took off the towel, the door to our bedside table stays wide opened and would not stay closed. We overall enjoyed our stay but feel that the management should have pay more attention to these finer details especially when these rooms are supposedly “Newly Renovated”?
Clean and updated room. Small space, but totally to be expected in NYC. Staff were responsive and helpful. We stayed on the 6th floor. I was surprised how quiet it was. Both from outside noise and room to room. They have double windows (old existing on the exterior and new updated windows on inside). Also have black out blinds! Excellent location! Would definitely stay here again.
The location is not bad. The public transportation system is close by. There are a few coffee shops nearby. The overall setting is quite simple. Nothing too fancy, but also not low end. The rooms are nice and fresh; clean. The beds are comfortable. The room size is not all that big, but it is big enough. The customer service is good. I enjoyed my stay and would not mind staying there again.
My wife and I stayed here for 10 days in May, 24. We did our research and the hotel seemed to meet our needs, so we booked it, fingers crossed. The hotel and staff exceeded our expectations on every level. From Nestor at the desk to Michael at the entrance to our room staff who worked with our varying schedule, everyone treated us warmly. Suggestions were happily shared regarding all of our needs and no request was left unanswered. Our room was great, spotless and spacious. As we were in the south portion of the hotel, our room was amazingly quiet. We had no clue roadwork was happening outside! The hotel is well located for transit and we felt remarkably safe.We loved our stay and have a new home in New York for future visits.
I loved my stay with my granddaughter and husband at the Westgate New York Grand Central Station. For me the rooms were just what we needed. The only complaint would be the double beds. I wished they would have been queen sized. The hotel itself was so easy to get to and walk places. I thought it was clean. The lobby area is very nice to chill out. The bar looked fun ... didnt go with my 12 year old granddaughter.I recently had stayed in a few hotels that were less then desirable. So I really appreciated the staff, cleanliness. The rooms were made up every day. Also, my room was very quiet ... which sometimes in New York can be a problem. The hotel had a retro feel to it. I loved the Klimt artwork and the vibe that it gave the hotel.
The hotel and its staff provided exceptional service, particularly Mr. Vito, who made our check-in process remarkably smooth and efficient. The room was meticulously maintained and offered a tranquil environment. The bartenders demonstrated exceptional professionalism and friendliness, ensuring a pleasant experience. We will undoubtedly book here again and highly recommend this establishment not only for personal travel but also for business purposes.
Great hotel. My wife was at a conference in NYC and the staff were extremely helpful helping her to print documents etc. A big thanks to the concierge who helped with this as well as getting a taxi for my wife at the end of our stay. A very personable gentleman with a great sense of humour for whom nothing was too much trouble. The hotels location was perfect with public transport nearby. Our room was spotless although the walls were thin and we could hear the lady next door. Thankfully it wasnt a problem. All in all a very memorable stay which was almost entirely down to the wonderful staff. Thank you!
Amazing place with absolutely stunning view and friendly staff. In close proximity of almost everything you might want to see.Metrobuses are available to all 4 directions right next to the hotel.Room was spacious, clean and quiet. Kevin was fantastic to start with and the rest of the staff were great. Coming back to stay here with no doubt.
The Westgate is a phenomenal hotel -- no complaints whatsoever! Rooms were very clean and the staff was truly excellent. We got there a bit early ~3 hours before check-in but they informed us that our room was ready and that there was no need to wait. Additionally, on our last day, they gladly held onto our luggage after we checked out so that we could go and enjoy our last day in NY without schlepping around our bags. Overall a great experience, would stay here again :)
The hotel is old but its been updated. Its in nice location. It gets pretty cold in the morning even in the summer. They dont have heat in summer season.I asked before a portable heater, at first they said they didnt have it but somehow they found one.People are friendly and I would say the service is excellent.
Nice location and nice hotel. But service is not good.1) IT systems never work. They were not able to print the invoice. I called them 3 times after asking to send me those per mail and they didnt manage it.2) The guy who is helping with luggage just let it fall down, but was insulted after I didnt give him tip.
During our recent stay at the hotel, we were deeply impressed by the exceptional kindness and excellent treatment from the staff. They were extremely attentive to our needs at all times, ensuring that every aspect of our visit was perfect. In addition to the outstanding service, the cleanliness of the rooms, the generous space, and the comfort of the beds were remarkable. These features allowed for excellent rest after a day of walking through NYC. The warmth and professionalism with which they attended to us truly made a difference, turning our experience into something truly memorable. Without a doubt, this level of personalized service, dedication to guest well-being, and attention to comfort makes this hotel stand out from the rest.
Great hotel at a great price. We stayed for three nights at the Westgate New York Grand Central. Its a great location for exploring the city. The hotel isnt huge, which is nice, but the rooms are some of the largest Ive stayed in in New York City. We actually had room to walk around! The front desk, cleaning staff and doormen are super nice. Thanks for a wonderful stay and a wonderful weekend.
Hotel accommodations and location were good. Our flight was canceled and we were delayed by 1 day getting to the hotel and We were told on the phone that one of our nights would be refunded. Once we arrived at the hotel the manager refused to refund us even though someone over the phone ensured us it would be no problem.
Decent hotel for the price..staff is not friendly..older and cranky (except the bellman who was lovely). Beds are very comfortable and the room is very clean but its an old hotel. If you are a light sleeper be prepared to hear the HVAC make a loud crashing noise every time the AC shuts off. Woke me up all throughout the night. Windows also not good at reducing street noise. Theres no restaurant at all so no room service. Must leave the premise to eat (outside of the bar and sundries shop which doesnt keep normal operating hours).
I stayed here with some friends for a girls trip. It was wonderful! The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and it was very quiet. (Which is nice after a long day of play in the city). I would stay here again!
The hotel is decent, but their dry-cleaning service is terrible. I brought my brand-new coat to the hotel’s drycleaner as it got wet in the rain, but they ruined my coat and multiple items of clothing. I received them back with the label “defective condition before cleaning” which was absolutely false. The hotel did reimburse me for the cleaning costs of the coat ($60) but that does not go a long way when a $800 coat is ruined (which I bought a few weeks before the trip). I would avoid this place.
I dont ever write reviews but being that I solely relied on reviews to find the perfect hotel to stay during my NYC vacation I figured Id write one in hopes it helps others pick the best spot for themselves or their families. The rooms were super clean and comfortable, the bed was super comfy and spacious. Housekeeping did an awesome job fixing up our room while we were out on the town which was super nice to come back to after a long day in the City. We stayed on the 16th floor and the views were very nice. Upon check in our original room on the 5th floor was having AC issues but immediately after making the front desk aware the maintenance man was in to take a look and was super kind, due to the issue we were moved to a different room, free of charge which ended up being just as beautiful! Im not sure if this goes for every room in the hotel but we did have a connected room with the guests next door to us which I guess depending on the guests could be an issue if they are nosey (in our case, they were) but it wasnt anything unbearable. The location was great, not too far from Grand Central Terminal which got us to all of our desired locations in no time. Its a little tucked away which is nice because it wasnt too nosey outside so that was a plus. Staff was super helpful, friendly and always at our service if needed, I would definitely stay here again!
Stayed for 5 nights and great location. Outside of the noise/ hustle and bustle but within easy and 4 minute walking distance to Grand Central Terminal.CVS store one block west to get the room amenities and not provided. Bar downstairs and small shop with some basics.Brilliant choice of TV channels, spacious rooms and decent king size bed.The shower we had was quite low and pressure and the air conditioning unit made a loud bang every now again but for the 3-star hotel it ticked all the boxes for us.
I booked a Renovated King Luxe Suite through Hotwire. I chose this hotel because it was one of the few that I could find pictures of actual king sized beds. Our flight was delayed and we ended up arriving around 2am. We were told the system was down but that our room was ready. We go up to find out that we were put into a regular double room. I called downstairs to let them know of the mistake and told us to come back down to get the correct room. We bring all our stuff back down to the front desk (4 year old in tow at 2am), and then they tell us that they are completely sold out of our room for the night and we just needed to stay in the room that we were in and they would switch us the next day. Needless to say I was a little frustrated by this because they could have just told us this over the phone. The next day we move into our room and it is NOT A KING SIZE BED. There was only a double bed. The hotel did refund me our resort fee for the first night. But honestly, if I had known that this hotel doesnt have true king beds, I wouldnt have booked it. I spent more for a suite because I wanted a little extra room thinking our little one may need breaks or a nap. But having just the one double bed was difficult. The Sleeper Sofa was also broken.
It was my first vacation to NYC with my two adult daughters. We arrived at Newark Airport with a driver waiting for us (we booked prior to arriving) with a drive of about 25-30 min. The hotel was clean, and staff were always friendly and, in most cases, would wish us well on our day of venturing out, and greet all of us with a smile. We arrived on 7/16 much earlier than check in so we werent surprised when advised that our room wasnt ready. Staff stored our bags, and we were off. Our room was a king with a pullout sleeper. The view wasnt the best, but we werent in our room most of the time long enough to notice. Housekeeping made our room up every day and restocked our towels. King bed was comfortable, AC worked as it should have and plenty of storage. The mini fridge hides in a side cabinet, so out of sight. The lighting, other than in the bathroom was horrible, but no way enough to only give 4 stars. The extra mirrors made up for any lighting shortfall. Shower was hot with great water pressure. We were located on the 11th floor, so I did have to travel to the 14th floor to get ice, as it was only available on certain floors, but once again, not a deal breaker. The youngest (adult) daughter drew the short straw and had to sleep on the pull out and she did indicate that you could feel the springs. This may not work for some, but most of the time those arent even used so in hindsight, a deluxe double would have worked better. Elevators were quick, I mean super quick and that was really helpful after walking all day and waiting for an elevator. They arent very spacious, so being fast was extremely beneficial! The lounge/bar area was always super clean with TVs and enough seating, so you were not sitting on top of each other. There was a bit of a disturbance one evening when there were protest going on down the street. A huge NYPD presence along with the White Shirts, so I called down and asked what was going on and they were honest and advised, we were not in any danger whatsoever. The hotel is in such a great location, we were able to walk to all of our destinations faster than it would have taken us to take a cab or UBER. Grand Central is within walking distance with any train or connection that you would need. We were not familiar with the transit system; however, we were able to figure it out fairly easily with plenty of signs and staff everywhere. My husband and I have stayed at Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando FL several times and have NEVER been disappointed and NYC/Grand Central Station lived up to my expectations and more! Thank you for making our stay so memorable, all three of us cant wait to come back!
Staying at the West Gate Hotel in New York was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Not only were the accommodations comfortable and stylish, but the service provided by the staff truly went above and beyond. During my stay, I unfortunately misplaced my wallet, and the staff at the West Gate Hotel went out of their way to help me locate it. Their honesty, integrity, and dedication to customer service were truly remarkable. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to anyone looking for a memorable and trustworthy stay in the heart of New York City.
I stayed here for a night and I got a great service from Jamel Sandoval and Tony they were very helpful and very knowledgeable. The rooms were great and the service was amazing!!! I will stay here next time I’m in New York
We arrived to the hotel after a long travel day only to find out our room was given away. I booked this room specifically because it had a balcony and double beds. The person helped me kept asking me when I booked the room, I’m not sure how that would be relevant, but in any case I booked it well in advance. Giving away a room that is already booked is unprofessional and amateur. They offered a suite, which they stated is a nicer room. But not for four people, this would mean 2 people would be sleeping on a sofa pull out. They said this like they were doing us a favor. Because we didn’t really have any other options we took the room. The sofa bed was one of the worst nights of sleep I have had and was very uncomfortable. For compensation they offered $50 off and “breakfast” which consisted of some packaged muffins and a fruit. I would not recommend staying here, if mistakes like this can be made. It is too bad, the balcony is such a nice feature and the room was clean. Also, I must mention the doorman was very nice. Has potential but a long way to go with their customer service.
The hotel is just amazing ! Super clean organized, need a bike ? A bike citi bike has a station 3 min away from hotel , time square is down the street. If you looking for the best location near time square this is the hotel !
The Westgate is a bit of an anomaly. It’s a great hotel for the price range, historic and well done in the remodel (sans some items). However, being that it’s a 4-star hotel there’s a couple of small items that should be taken care of. Detail is everything when you get to that point. The remodel kept the historic elements that I think provide character to the hotel and not some redone overdone mid-century modern concept. Whomever redesigned it did well to encompass the original elements (but refreshed). Couple things after staying for just under 10 days that I found odd. Some of the room have gaps where they placed the flooring so you can see the sub-floor underneath. Some of the room also have Murphy beds, which is just odd and uncomfortable. The connecting rooms have poor sound insulation from the other connecting room. You can literally hear moderate level conversation in your room coming from the other room, if you have a connecting from. While it’s great if you’re easedropping it’s terrible if you’re trying to sleep.Outside of that, the rooms lack a bit of ventilation probably because it’s an old building. But for people like me who are really sensitive to dust and the like (allergies suck) it’s not ideal.Everything else is pretty standard for a hotel. The turnover service, the great customer service and doorman who actually opens the door for you.I’d say to the hotel needs to work on really nailing the issues with the rooms and continue doing what they’re doing.
Arrived from Vancouver, Canada. My first trip to New York with my girlfriend. We arrived and had a little mix up with the hotel room which wasnt there fault but Expedias miss communication with the wrong picture of the room... so lesson learnt. Anyways Poryelina the front desk lady was so great! She accommodated me with two different room options and was just amazing with her service. Highly recommend this hotel! Amazing location everything is walking distance. We will be back forsure.
Just returned from a 3 night break. Lovely hotel, comfy clean rooms and staff who went above and beyond. Not far from Grand Central station and the Chryslar Building and about 15 min walk to 7th Ave. Wouldnt hesitate to book again if we are back to NY
Great hotel with lovely clean rooms. Had one small issue with people in neighbouring room being extremely noisy but a room swap was sorted and arranged very promptly. Allowed me to leave my bags with the staff after check out until my flight. All of the staff are lovely.Would definitely stay again!
Was raining when we arrived (end of February). Not sure if theyre understaffed or what but no one helped at the door to carry our luggage or take them to our room while were checking in. Must not be a thing in NY. If thats the case, then this is what sets hotels in Hawaii apart from any hotels in NYC. The hotel used to be called Tudor. They still havent changed the sign on top of the building. The rooms are okay. The room is about the size of my home office. Its fine. The sink was clogged on the first day. Thankfully they fixed it the following day - the attendant must have noticed after cleaning the room on our first day. The hotel serves drinks and Starbucks.Location-wise this is better than anything in Time Square where its loud and crowded; constructions going on everywhere. And the other day, there was a pro-Palestinian protest there that blocked access to a grenade that was found in the back seat of an Uber ride. The two just had to be in the same spot - if that didnt spell trouble. Its good to be sort of far from all that and be able to rest properly at night but still have access to the subway to go places during the day. Time Square can be a 20-minute walk if youre a fast walker like me; otherwise make it 30 minutes. Im used to running and walking my dog at home.Besides the occasional rain, the weather is fine this time of the year (and this is coming from a Florida resident) I actually sweat a bit just walking back to the hotel from there. The buildings block the cold winds. If you happen to forget to bring extra clothes, theres a Gap around the corner, but of course, be prepared to pay for the paper bag or bring your own. This is NY after all.
This hotel used a bait and switch tactic to advertise and does not take responsibility to rectify mistakes.Booked a renovated luxe room on Hotel.com with hardwood flooring due to a dust allergy but when checking in the front desk gave a very clearly old room that resembled a cheap motel room with dusty carpet instead. The front desk did not mention they gave me a different room, only found out after I opened the door to my room. When I went down to inform them of the mistake the front desk manager Lazaro informed me that they do not have anymore renovated rooms, and the only solution they could provide was to change my room the next day. This was unacceptable for 2 reasons. One, they effectively oversold a product they do not actually have and expected the consumer to pay for their mistake (the renoed rooms were also more expensive). Two, they advertised a better room to get the consumer in the door at which time choices for other hotels are limited with costs vastly inflated, effectively holding the consumer hostage.Since I was unwilling to stay the night in a carpeted room, I was forced to try and find a place elsewhere at 11pm on the day of after an exhausting day of traveling. Not only did the hotel not agree to provide compensation for my opportunity cost incurred. They made refunding more difficult than necessary by forcing the transaction through the third party. The most erigious act was when I stated I would need to cancel my booking the desk manager tried to lie about all of NYC booked out as of he had a crystal ball.Eventually I forced a refund through the third party and found a room at the Hilton at a more expensive rate but room that met my requirements. This entire interaction made me realize that the hotel does this because most consumers in this scenario would just accept the bait and switch, effectively letting the hotel pass on the cost of their mistake to the consumer. On principle I cannot let this slide and will do everything within my reasonable right to hold them accountable. This one star review being the first of such action, probably ending in a small claims lawsuit. Erigious business practices need to have reciprocal consequences.Pictures of actual room given attached.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westgate. We arrived early and asked if we could leave our bags somewhere for the afternoon, however the lady at reception very kindly said that they had a room prepped and that we could check in early. This was a major help and allowed us to freshen up before we headed out to explore. The room was lovely, nicely decorated and we felt it was a good size for the city. We didn’t hear any noise and slept well throughout our stay. When it came to checking out, all was straightforward and the hotel kindly looked after our luggage so that we could enjoy our last day in the city before heading for our flight later that evening. The hotel is in a fantastic location - about a 5 minute walk to grand central station, making getting the subway/ train to and from the airport super straightforward. There are also nearby bus connections too. Times Square and other popular locations are also within walking distance. Really glad we chose to stay here, we had a wonderful trip! Would happily return!
Great hotel in a very central location. Rooms spotless , hotel really nice and comfortable and staff were extremely friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend for a city break. Grand central station is a short walk away also. 10/10.
Amazing stay thank you so much. Such a great location too with Grand Central 42nd St subway a 5/10min walk away. Staff all so helpful. The beds are absolutely amazing, so so comfy which is just what you need after walking miles each day! Thank you Westgate!
The room was beautiful. We loved the balcony. The room was beautiful and cleaned everyday. The location was in a safe and clean area.
The hotel was a bit old, but the staff was friendly and the location was good. The room was clean and the service was good, but the sofa bed was too uncomfortable to sleep on.
Rooms are very small. Washroom smells like wet dishcloth. Water pressure was so weak. No view. Very dark and depressing feeling with limited lighting. Location was good.
Great location, not near the crowded part. Staff is excellent. Shout out to James, Nestor, Kristina and Kevin! They all make my stays comfortable.
I did a lot of research in an attempt to find a quiet place to stay and I was happy with my time at the Westgate. I was looking for a place with minimal street noise and other guest noise. Our room was on the 12th floor. As far as street noise, we could hear honking and sirens. As far as other guest noise, really the only sound was our neighbor’s door shutting, which could probably be mitigated with some kind of door stopper. We were at the end of the hall in a corner and our door was right next to another door. I could not hear other guests talking through the walls or walking around above us. There is a fan in the room which you can set to varying speeds. When set on medium and high it makes a rattling sound. All this being said, I travel with earplugs and noise canceling headphones plus a white noise machine and it was easy to block out the sounds and sleep well. I would definitely stay at the Westgate again.
Simply outstanding. Everything started off on the right foot at check in with Kevin and Christina. They are as professional as you get. We are so happy with the room and the amenities that we are extending our stay. And this area of the city is fantastic! 42nd Street near 2nd Avenue used to be a pit. Now it’s a lovely area, with some of the best restaurants in the city right in the neighborhood. Who knew? I’m impressed. Go Westgate!!
I recently stayed at Westgate New York Grand Central, and was sorely disappointed by my experience. Despite the listing stating that amenities such as in-room Wi-Fi, local calls, daily newspapers, and boarding pass printing were included, I was blindsided by an unexpected 20% junk fee at check-in. This was not disclosed at any point during the booking process, which I find to be a clear example of deceptive business practices. Moreover, the handling of the situation by the on-duty manager, Azaro, was utterly unprofessional. He snickered at my frustration over these surprise charges, showing a lack of respect and empathy for a guests concerns. This behavior is unacceptable from someone in his position and reflects poorly on the entire establishment.Potential guests should be wary of hidden fees and the possibility of encountering similar treatment. I hope this review helps others avoid the unpleasant surprises I faced during my stay.
On July 19th, my friend and I checked in around 7:40 pm. We left our things in the room and went to a restaurant near the hotel. When we returned around 9 pm, we stopped at the hotel bar to buy water. When we went to pay for the water, the bar attendant gave me a bill for a drink and asked if I would pay for it too. I said that the bill wasnt mine, that I hadnt had a drink at the bar. He insisted and said that I had been there before and had a drink. He insisted several times in front of the people who were there. It was very embarrassing and unpleasant.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Its been a while since Ive been this impressed with a hotel like Westgate New York Grand Central. The interior common spaces including the lobby, quick take-out store, and the bar downstairs are all beautiful. The rooms are a pretty decent size and the bed is very comfortable. If I could shout from the rooftops my approval of this hotel, I would.
Was at this hotel during a busy UN week. I was treated as good as any high profile guest. They were welcoming and happy to help with anything I was needing. The bar staff were great to chat away too about all the fun hidden gems in newyork. Price was brilliant and the room was brilliant. Small upgrade in the bathrooms would have been great but did not take away from the stay.
From kern country ca. Great services. Good place to stay. Grand Central is two blocks away, so it made it easy to navigate thru city.
We stayed at this hotel because my friend and his family recommended it to us and they also stayed there at the same time we did.We found that our Room was perfect for my wife, my two kids and I. We were there to attend the Macy’s parade. The location was excellent since we were so close to Grand Central Station and made it easy to hop on the Subways and trains to take us to the different parts of the city and JFK airport.Rooms were very clean, and the housekeeping crew were really helpful.Ronil, Sonny and Jose at the bar were great people to talk to, excellent service and get good tips about NYC. Needless to say that bar is a gem at the hotel since in the mornings it turns into a mini Starbucks, the wife was super happy about that. Our stay made our stay so memorable, that we will be staying there once again next year.Thank you again Westgate NYC for everything. Keep up the great work !!PS- The elevators are great, super fast, hardly any waiting !!
Loved our stay here! The staff were so friendly and lovely. We had a group booking for our wedding and all the staff went out of their way to make sure all our guests were looked after. The rooms are such a great size and house keeping came everyday. It’s such a great location so close to a lot but just perfectly away from the madness and busy crowds.Would definitely recommend and would love to stay here again in the future.
Very charming historic hotel in a great location mid-town, with lots of restaurants and shopping. Two blocks up from Grand Central, easy walk to all the sights. Quiet, safe neighborhood. Preferable to mid-town west area (Times Square, which is very noisy and seedy, in my opinion). Rooms were very nice, if a bit small, clean and comfortable. No restaurant on site, but plenty of restaurants in the area. Very nice bar and seating area. We brought our own breakfast stuff and ate there every morning. Our last night we got some pizzas and ate in the bar area. It was perfect. Staff were all very friendly.
Very kind personnel, we arrived in the morning around 11 AM, and we were given the room that was supposedly to have at 3 PM. That kindness is not usual and we appreciated it very much.
Our room was clean & fully furnished. (Only thing missing was a microwave). But svc & everything else was good.
Ive stayed here multiple times, have had a decent experience - its close to my work, and since I do a lot of travel its pretty convenient. I do love the bar area; theres great service there. The biggest issue I have is once youre no longer staying there youre no longer there problem.I called for a simple request - asked for a copy of my folio. The woman at the front desk couldnt be bothered to email it to me. She sent me on a wild goose chase to literally just get a simple piece of paper emailed to me. Still havent gotten it.I only write this because if you travel for work and you have to deal with T&E reporting then just make sure you leave with everything you need. It becomes a major time suck for such a simple request.
The rooms where clean air conditioner never cooled off the room. You could hear the elevator from the room which made it hard to sleep. There was a mouse in the lobby! That did it for me!!!😬🤢 The tub didnt drain and they where very slow to bring towels when needed. The bar tender at the bar was fabulous! 🍻The concierge where very helpful and nice.👍 Overall its an okay play to stay.
We were hopeful about our stay. We paid a pretty penny to stay close to time square. The hotel lobby is pretty and the room looked nice until we were freshening up and there were knats in the shower. So much so I too pictures and went to the front desk to get a different room. The gentleman that was there the first night was kind. He moved us to an upgraded room; however, in this room there were loud pounding noises which was a absolutely unacceptable especially considering that we have a baby. We let it ride. The day we check out we call down and attempt to get bell hop to get our bags, they didn’t come. So my husband takes our bags down and the bell hop says “I let you do it yesterday and now you taking food out my kids mouth; next time that cart won’t be able to help you.” Then he refused to take the cart to our car for which we parked valet everyday and locked the ramp so we couldn’t take it. Then we requested the And then after he clearly made a threat, we called the manager which then proceeds to justify his behavior. They still proceeded not to help us with the bags. This was absolutely the worst customer service experience we have had. The amount of disrespect was beyond unacceptable.
Requested and paid for a King bed Deluxe room. Upon arrival of hotel and room the bed was clearly not a king. Called the front desk from my room and got an operator in another State. That made no sense either. Told operator my situation she agreed that I paid for a deluxe king room. The front desk staff advised me that in this hotel in Manhattan a queen bed is considered a King. They never tried to apologize or compensate or take a dime off the king deluxe room for a standard room. This is our first and last experience at any Westgate property
We stayed in this hotel for a whole week. Location is perfect, close to Grand Central station so that you can easily travel downtown or uptown using buses or the metro lines. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room (#225) was clean, but very small and obscure with a view on a roof with work in progress. Wifi is erratic and you must reconnect every day. The breakfasts are pretty poor with a coffee or tea, a banana, an orange juice, a yogurt and an awful croissant or a muffin. Overall, this hotel is OK, with a very good quality price ratio (rooms are cheap for NYC), but do not expect to get the services of a four star hotel.
This is one of my favorite hotels in New York! A true gem. The service is fantastic and the hotel is always beautiful and clean. Its in a great location that is close enough to Broadway shows and other prime locations, but without the craziness of people and traffic as being right in Times Square. A big thank you to Jose and Ronil at the Tudor City Tavern. They always greeted me every morning, and they make the best coffee/tea! They even remembered me from a past trip I had taken and are always so kind and welcoming. Thank you!!
I had a really great stay here. I came for a solo trip and was very pleased with this small classic hotel with a touch of modernism. I loved my corner room which was spacious! Many people complain about how small NY rooms are and mine was perfect, felt like a studio. Location is pretty good of course taking the bus is necessary to get around NY but you can walk out for pizza or any other meal. I got wonderful service at the bar and to warm something up there with their microwave. I cant wait to stay again.
We liked the location of the hotel. It was a cozy room. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and the pillows weren’t great either. We could never get the thermostat set to the right temperature…not sure that was hotel’s fault though.
I had a pretty poor experience. There were a few bright spots and some good employees but overall would not recommend. They try to charge you a lot of hidden fees. Very New York greedy and schemey mindset. The rooms are small but fine but for the cost I would stay somewhere else. Some of the bellmen were very, very creepy and as a young female I would not feel comfortable staying there again. I don’t like staying somewhere where you feel like you as the customer are not always right and where people are creepy and uncomfortable. Bad vibes.
1. Arrival: I arrived at the hotel 30 minutes before check-in time and informed the desk clerk that I werent expecting my room to be ready but wanted to check. Surprisingly, the clerk had a room available for you. Always nice, but not expected.2. Unpleasant Smell: Unfortunately, when I entered the room, I were greeted by a strong and unpleasant smell, which I liken to old, skunky pot, more intense than what youd experienced in a dispensary.3. Room Change: I requested a different room due to the smell, and the hotel staff assigned me a new room approximately 15 minutes later. However, the replacement room had some issues.4. Replacement Room: The second room seemed smaller and located on a lower floor. It had a murphy bed, which was somewhat odd. The mattress was comfortable, but it squeaked loudly, and the bed had unusual leather arms that made getting in and out difficult.5. Thin Walls: The most significant problem I encountered was the paper-thin walls. I could hear every word spoken in the neighboring room at a normal volume, making it challenging for light sleepers.Overall, with all the hotels available in NYC, I would choose a different one.
Not worth the cost. Outside of the pretty looking lobby everything else is average. Small room. Average shower that isn’t that great ( water pressure was off)Hidden fees ( they basically charge $40 for 2 bottles of water, access to their gym, coffee maker in your room & wifi) all stuff that should be standard for any hotel. Then on top of that they charge you a additional $100 for room insurance that takes 3-5 business days to get back but you know it’s actually going to take longer and no heads up is given anywhere on their site. With so many other options, I don’t know why anyone would choose here..
Overall we had a great experience at this hotel. It was our first time in NYC and I purchased a flight + hotel deal package on Expedia that I think was a good price for what we got. I was a little nervous at first seeing the Google rating prior to coming but everything turned out great for us.We had one of the newly renovated king bed rooms. The bed was big and comfortable. The room was on the smaller side but it didnt bother us cause we were out in the city most of our days there anyway. The bathroom was standard.Pros:1 - Mostly quiet area. Lots of cars and police around, I assume due to its proximity to United Nations but the car honking thing seems to be a noise issue throughout midtown Manhatten. Felt like a safe area overall.2 - Youre close to some major touristy areas, times square is just a 20 minute walk down the road along with many other attractions / hotspots. And if you take advantage of the subway, Grand Central is right there. We could be in lower Manhattan or central park from our hotel in less than half an hour.3 - Close Amenities. We had to grab a few things at CVS while on our trip and theres a 24hr location right next door basically. As I mention more below, theres also a ton of coffee shops, etc close by too.Cons (nitpicky):1 - Resort fees. Dont know if this is a Expedia issue or what but I was unaware of these fees before travelling. Its not a big deal as hotels in touristy cities have these all the time but would be nice to know going into it for budgeting reasons. I believe they were $30-$40 USD a day which adds up when youre staying there for 5 days like we did. It definitely wouldve factored into my hotel choice while booking but because our experience was good I dont think its a huge deal.2 - My only complaint of the room is that in the mornings, even when I had our temperature control set to low / cold, the room would get very hot but it wasnt a big deal as we left shortly afterwards anyway and tried to keep the window open at all times while we were there.3 - The coffee price was on the high side at the bar in the lobby but theres a couple Starbucks and other coffee shop options very close by so we would just go grab those in the morning and bring it back to our room before heading out for the day.Overall I would stay here again, friendly staff (especially when the manager was around haha) and good experience.
We stayed here and it was awesome and accessible to everything. Everyone was nice at the front desk. I love waking up with that kind of view in the morning. I would definitely return when I am in New York.
Awful customer service on 8/18. First, I had called ahead around 4:30 to say I would be there later in the evening and even confirmed with the woman at the front desk that my studio king room would be ready when I came. When we arrived for check-in, we were given the wrong sized room. We had explicitly requested and paid for a king room, but when we entered the bed was a queen. The front desk person at first would not admit that the room type was wrong, and even when shown multiple screenshots and confirmation emails from Westgate itself told us that our email was wrong and that all the rooms were sold out and there was nothing to do. I said this would not work and we needed a king size bed, and instead of trying to fix the problem, the front desk person had the audacity to ask me how do you know the bed is not a king? as if any sane person cannot tell the difference between a queen and king size bed. Then when prodded more, he said that downsizing from a king to a queen was considered an upgrade and we should be happy with the room. Another obvious attempt to act like the hotel did not mess up and with no attempt to fix anything. I was then handed to another gentleman at the front desk who tried to convince us that what we had was a custom-made king size bed and it just looks smaller than a normal king, but is considered a king only at this hotel. Another, frankly insulting, attempt to make us stay in a room that literally would not fit our needs properly. Then a manager was finally brought in after more waiting, and magically there was a room available for us. But then, when we went upstairs to confirm the room was correct, we were greeted by another persons luggage. We were given the keys to another guests room and could have walked in on another poor person. Extremely unprofessional and quite unsafe. Ultimately we were given the keys to an unoccupied king room, and while everything else was acceptable, the trash cans in the room and bathroom had not been emptied before we came. There was no excuse for such poor service. This place gets a 1 only because of the beautiful park close by and the room view, not the hotel itself and definitely not the staff.
Booked this hotel by my travel agency, spent 6 nights there- my very first time in NYC. The hotel is in a calm and safe place of NYC, Midtown, only few minutes walk away from Grand Central Station, Chrysler Building and the UN.To my surprise my room was large, housekeeping up every single day, the bathroom was large as well, even had a shower bath tube and the bed was very comfy. The only annoying thing regarding the room was the air conditioning, which was quite loud and stopped its cooling cycle everytime with a loud bang. The staff was very friendly, especially the concierges, I felt welcome from my first step out of the yellow cab.I enjoyed every day at this hotel, I can recommend this hotel, and would come back everytime! Thank you!
Was here for a week! Near to everything! But in a quiet areaEverything was perfect!Room was very clean spacious! Thanks to the amazing cleaning lady for itStaff was always kind and presentspecially Chafik who was very nice and helpful, even took care of our ride back to the airport
Nice enough hotel for cleanliness but the room was in constant darkness as its overlooked by about half a dozen apartments literally 2 metres away so had to have the blinds permanently closed. very small box room 720, staff where ok but not overly helpful. the resort tax is just a rip off would have stayed elsewhere knowing what I know now. Luckily we where out the room most of the time so that helped. food only available via a small snack area next to the bar. will do my homework next time Im in NY and definitely stop elsewhere..
Loved our stay! Super comfy bed, great shower. I’d recommend to any of my friends! The service was great. We’d come back everyday with our bed made, and if we ever left a shirt on the bed before we left, it would be folded for us! Great hotel all around.
Stayed 4 nights from 8/22 - 8/26. Great location, nice rooms, housekeeping every night. About a 7 minute walk to the closest subway station. 20 minutes or so from Times Square. Check in and check out was easy. Overall great place to stay.
Stayed for 3 nights, there’s always noise coming upstairs during the day and midnight (like washing machine.) Could not sleep well at all. Also be careful to choose if you’re allergic to dust.
Fantastic stay! Customer service is best I’ve found in NYC (here at least once a month). When it was raining I was offered an umbrella, went to heat my coffee in microwave, they took it from me to steam it. Above and beyond at every interaction. The room is adorable and so well thought out. Closet with shelves, well lit room and spacious by NYC standards. Old building means nice thick walls for a great night of sleep. I hope to return soon.
I was scheduled to stay at this hotel. After I had a flight cancellation, I contacted the hotel informing them of the change of plans. They said over the phone that I would receive a refund in light of the derailment of plans. Now, the hotel is refusing to refund, and is avoiding my calls and questions, saying that they are investigating and that they did not approve the refund... AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS. Not worth the risk.
From the moment we arrived we were treated top notch by this professional and courteous staff! Freddie at curbside greeted us with a smile and stored our luggage quickly as it was well before check in time. Christina at the front desk was wonderful and very attentive! The bartender made a wonderful espresso with a smile.Location, location, location, we love Tudor City and access to Bryant Park. Very safe neighborhood. 10/10!!!!
Hotel is fine, rooms are not great. Super small, air conditioning doesn’t work (ours sounded like it was going to explode, woke us up every half an hour with loud noises and still didn’t cool the room down). We also got placed in a room that had window cleaners/maintenance parked outside the entire stay (5 nights) which was pretty uncomfortable and extremely loud/disruptive early in the morning. No warning given that there was construction or maintenance happening. Very disappointed to pay a $40/night resort fee on top of the booking for a room where we couldn’t even open our curtains and were being baked with no working A/C. Also no working ice machine in the entire hotel and couldn’t leave anything in the fridge because it was so cold it froze and exploded everything that we put in it. Really wanted to like this spot but we’re leaving feeling pretty let down.
Surprised my mom with a trip to New York and stayed here. Very clean, nice staff and the hotels history, renovations and ambience were a plus! The rooms did not have carpet which to me always feels cleaner. The bar area was adorable and the bartenders were great. We were leaving late on Sunday and were able to leave our things at the hotel so we could explore with carrying all that. Staff was very helpful with recommendations as well as with transportation suggestions back to the airport. My mom and I are big on walking and found it to be convenient. We hope to be back! Thank you!
Customer service was impeccable! Once the staff knew your name, they used it when talking with you. The room was very clean and airy! The whole hotel was clean, including light fixtures and counters! The period paintings, fixtures and furnishings added to the ambience of the setting. We valet-parked our car and didnt have to worry about parking during our stay. The hotel was walking distance to lots of great restaurants and sites like the United Nations. We are looking forward to our return visit!
Staff was friendly. The lobby is well maintained, but the rooms, not so much. The bathroom was filthy. The door, walls and shower were not clean. The location is perfect!
The hotel is nice enough, not very big, clean and the staff was very friendly! They have complimentary umbrellas if its raining, no restaurant but there is a bar with snacks and drinks. We went at the beginning of December and I was a little disappointed that they did not have any christmas decorations out and still had up fall stuff (thats just me being picky though). I took one star away because there were several small things that added up, first our room was extremely hot even with the heat off and the windows open it was still 77 degrees in the room. second, there was no fan in the bathroom which I found to be off, third, the mini fridge as inside of one of the night stands and the door to the night stand was broken and would not shut all the way which was slightly annoying and fourth our comforter had stains on it, which I could have asked for a new one but we didnt use it anyway because it was so hot in the room. Despite the minor inconveniences, I would still stay there again. It is in a good location, far enough from the crowded areas but still close enough to be able to walk to them.
We stayed at the hotel Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It’s beautifully decorated for the holidays with impeccable detail. I have stayed in many hotels and this is in one of my favorites in terms of designs and proximity to all important places for me in the city. I absolutely love the renovations and thought put into the decor while preserving its historical features.I’m giving this hotel a 4 star because I felt like the check in could have been a lot more welcoming. We were left to figure out where the gym was by ourselves. Room service line wasn’t answered when we needed help so we had to go downstairs to reception and also the rooms were on the smaller side.Would stay at this hotel again.
“ ImpossibleFor a plain yellow pumpkinTo become a golden carriage!… Impossible”You remember the song from Cinderella! And, it is impossible to imagine the things we experienced at Westgate New York Grand Central hotel, while attending the US OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS. From the hotel’s website, we expected views of the city and newly renovated historical charm. But, what we got from our room window, #715, was a view of historical bricks. There were no city views, only darkness and claustrophobia. We asked for a room change, which the staff was nice enough to accommodate. That was after he verbally spanked us with, “if everyone knew the hotel is surrounded by other buildings” circa 1927, “no one would come.” Our replacement room #1711 was definitely an upgrade. This room offered ‘some’ light. We were excited! Nice room and a wonderful city to explore! Unfortunately, this excitement would quickly turn into fear and anxiety. As we pulled back the sheets, there vigorously crawling up towards the top was a roach!!! Oh, my God! There would be NO sleeping in this bed, this room, this hotel tonight!!! For this incident, I called the hotel’s central call center. They passed the information onto the hotel’s front desk staff. After a short wait, a staff member/night manager knocked at the door. He stood at the door’s entrance and asked us about our experience. We invited him inside to see for himself, he deflected and asked us to bring the roach out to him. WHAT? He said, he needed to use it, the roach, to prove to management that a room change was justified. Perhaps he thought we planted it there! Just like we reserved a room facing bricks! Nevertheless, I scooped up the roach, in a cup, and handed it to him. He then gave us keys to room #1915. This would be the second time we would pack our bags and haul all our belongings into this tiny elevator onto another room. If you can’t imagine, here’s what happening…I’m frantically searching online for a room in downtown Manhattan at 11 p.m. Because, I just know the next room will have its own problems. Nothing is available! From #1915, although it’s dark, we could see a sliver of the Hudson River, in addition to having separate setting and bedroom areas. What happens next, made me wonder, ‘are we being punished for asking for a room with a view?’ We are in our third room, #1915 and we have NOT slept one ☝️ night in any room in this hotel……..there are loud, crashing, frightening sounds coming from the closet? The floor above? Inside the bathroom? The loud noises are everywhere inside the room! DON’T COMPLAIN! It will only be seven long uncomfortable days and it will all be over! A previous Google reviewer mentioned loud noises during their stay, but I didn’t believe them. Now, I do! The loud crashes woke me from my sleep, fearing someone had kicked in the door. The loud noises went on both day and night. My God! This place, Westgate New York Grand Central hotel is a nightmare! Some people are afraid of clowns, some snakes, but I’m afraid of one ⭐️ hotels posing as four star historical charms. Please! stay somewhere else.
I would not recommend this hotel as I would never support an organization that does not care for safety of their guests or employees. I’ve made multiple attempts to reschedule my stay due to unexpected covid illness in our family and was not successful! It’s a shame that couple hundred dollars is more important than health and safety of others !
This hotel is fine but they charge a hidden fee of $33 a day. They call it a “resort fee” but when asked what this fee covers, nobody could specify. Moreover, this isn’t mentioned until after you already pay for the room. The internet is incredibly slow and this is not a resort in any capacity. It is a regular hotel with a shady way of overcharging.
I had a great experience here. The staff was fantastic. Ive stayed at many properties in NYC. When I first checked in, I had some hesitation because I could see older windows and nice, but older woodwork. I was used to staying in sleek hotels. Once I settled in to my very nice room, I embraced the charm of this hotel. It is in no way run-down. It is very pretty. Its just an older, recently renovated property. Its every hotel in Europe. I would gladly stay here again. Its in easy walking distance to Grand Central Station and Bryant park. There is also a beautiful green space with park benches at the end of the block.
Very nice hotel and very well located.the staff in the morning and at the entrance to the hotel are wonderful. spacious room ,comfortable and quiet. I take off a star just for the attitude of the person at the bar in the afternoon a contemptuous man who ignored us when we wanted to drink, after more than 20 minutes of waiting we left and we have a drink outside, another person before us had to leave his chips and pepsi because he didnt want to take it. Especially since there was no one !!the staff should be reviewed at this level because it tarnishes the image of the hotel, which is very friendly.
Pleasantly surprised by this gem. Clean and fairly spacious rooms. Comfortable beds for sure! Drawback: no type of free continental breakfast. I appreciate a coffeemaker in the room except the one in our room was terrible. It worked OK first morning and not the second. The water discharged into cup but the coffee did not release from the filter pod and it tasted like hot water. Hotel staff were helpful. Unfortunately the woman working the bar area never wore her mask up over her mouth and nose. She kept it under her chin. I would definitely stay here again. Loved the close proximity to Times Square. I recommend Zuckers for a close by restaurant to get a deliciously authentic NY bagel.
Highly recommend! My husband and I stayed here back and April with friends and loved it so much we decided to stay again during our visit last weekend. The staff both times were exceptional! The rooms were spacious compared to other hotels weve stayed at in Manhattan. The location is great because youre close to everything, but youre not in a super touristy area.We cant wait to stay here again!
Overall, the hotel was clean and comfortable. I loved the location for a visitor to NYC, close to all the tourist sites. However, they are yet to refund my $50 since October. Its unfotunate that despite several emails and twitter appeals, they have been unreaponsive.
Check in was slow and lackluster. The pull out sofa bed had bedding on it plus a note indicating bedding for the sofa bed was in the closet - which it was, and left me wondering if dirty bedding was not removed from the previous guests. The walls (or connecting door) between the rooms are paper thin. We have a loud family with two young children next to us and can hear everyone and everything - all conversations, screaming, walking, running, tv and games, etc. I called the front desk to see if there might be another room and received zero understanding or help. The representative was not willing to look at other nights of our stay. Also as a former NYC resident and traveler the vanity/sink in the bathroom is unacceptably small - especially for a room that sleeps 4. No where to put toiletries in the shower. Do NOT recommend this hotel.
One of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. My friend and I stayed here Friday-Monday for a weekend in NYC so we had many interactions with staff and watched them interact with others. They went above and beyond and treated everyone with so much respect. I mean everyone! LGBT+ and people of color, come here and feel so safe, cared for and respected! We saw people rolling in with too much to drink and staff treated them with such kindness and judgement free assistance. We saw people of all identities hang out in the lobby and staff went above and beyond to help them with anything they needed. My friend and I constantly asked for tips for food and fun, and each time they did research for us to help us have a good time. But come on… the real MVP? The cleaning staff! My friend and I are slobs, like seriously I was embarrassed for her to come in and clean after us…so the first night we declined, second night we couldn’t stand sleeping in our own filth anymore so we let her clean and whoa!!! She left that room sparkling, organized all our jewelry, toiletries and stuff we left lying around. And she would see us in the halls and was just the kindness woman ever, always making an effort to come up to us to ask us if we needed anything. I’ve never experienced this before! Being a broke Latina, we usually are ignored by staff in fancy hotels because they know we got some deal to be here, but this staff acted as if we were the grand guests of their weekend! Raises please for this hotel team! As for location, it’s not in the center of all the fun but it’s just close enough to get to all the places you probably want to visit and it was super quiet and safe, and many great eating places. Rooms were beautifully decorated, just the right size and extremely clean! Thank you for a wonderful NYC stay!! Hope to be back soon!
Everything about Westgate met and exceeded our expectations! The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable, the location was convenient, everything was clean, and the room was comfortable and updated. I would go back to Westgate without question anytime I am visiting NYC again. They upgraded our room at no extra cost to us and gave us an 11th story King size room when we paid for a low level queen size room. 10/10 - they made us feel welcome and special!
The room itself was alright. Very small and dark with windows facing a wall. It was disappointing to pay over $330/night for no light or view, but I suppose this isn’t uncommon in NYC.It’s a very basic hotel. Nothing impressive but clean. Housekeeping tidied our room each day and gave us clean towels.I’m giving 1 start because my iPhone charger went missing from my bedside after housekeeping came through one day. Shocking! We looked everywhere thinking maybe they had unplugged it and put it somewhere else, but nope, it was nowhere to be found. It made us uncomfortable leaving stuff around for the rest of our trip. I talked to the front desk 3 times and finally got put through to their security, who showed up with a random iPhone charger saying I had left it in the hallway. This was a lie… I didn’t leave the room with my charger. Someone took it, and they returned another charger which, for all I know, was from the lost and found. It was a bizarre explanation they gave but I was glad to have a charger for my phone.Beware! Lock everything in your safe that you don’t want to lose… We won’t be returning for this reason.
Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Rooms were gorgeous- not sure what they were like prior to renovation, but they did an IMPECCABLE job. Comfy beds, quiet, and clean. Bathroom was one of larger ones compared with other NYC hotels we stayed at. Area was convenient for sightseeing and only a short ride uptown to visit family. A little quieter of an area, but still close to the bustle. Definitely would stay again.
Great location so close to so many attractions. balcony room overlooking east river was fantastic. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully furnished.Murray hill is a wonderful neighbourhood the streets are quieter but still only 10 mins from grand central terminus. Would definitely recommend.
To say that this place is amazing, is an understatement. From the doorman to reception to the room and everything in between, it was one of the most memorable and beautiful hotel stays we have ever had. Upon hearing that it was our anniversary, our room was upgraded. We had a stunning view of the river with our own private balcony. We couldn’t be more grateful. I never want to stay anywhere else ever again when in NYC. This is our place now in New York City. The hotel is the famous Tutor Hotel. Stunning! While preserving it’s historic roots, the upgrades are beautifully and tastefully done.We can’t wait to come back.
My 3 night stay at The Westgate was lovely. The comfortable bed, black out shades and sound proof windows allowed for a deep restorative sleep. Midtown location was convenient to walk to many sites yet in quieter part of town on 2nd Ave. Cleaning staff was friendly and attentive. The only negative for me was the weak water pressure in the shower. Would have given 5 stars if water pressure was strong enough to rinse off shampoo & conditioner.
The friendly and helpful staff, the beautiful decor, and the exceptionally clean (and spacious) 1 bedroom suite all made for an excellent stay. Having a totally separate bedroom from the livingroom was rare to find at a decent price point for a hotel in NYC. Also, we enjoyed having three large windows with city views in the suite, (all with double shades for sleeping). The room amenities were perfect for our group of 3 girls... with 2 Tvs, ample mirrors (both in living and bedrooms as well as the bathroom), well placed outlets, lots of storage room (a desk in both rooms , 2 nightstands, a deep drawer dresser and closet with hanging area and built in storage and shoe rack), a fridge, a double coffee maker, clothes iron, hairdryer and a walk-in shower. There was no carpet in our suite and no dust on any surface which added to the overall hygienic and clean feel to the suite. We had to request housekeeping daily, but they did an excellent job refreshing and restocking each day that we requested them. The front desk staff were eager to help with any questions or needs we had. The doormen (especially Jose and Freddy) helped us feel safe as they always welcomed us with smiles and verbal greetings... I think they were always there, 24 hours a day (well, the latest we came in was 2:30am and earliest we left was 6am and they were there every time). They had very positive attitudes while assisting us to enter the building and find transportation and get directions when needed. I have stayed at a dozen other properties in NYC and this is one of the best staffed I have ever stayed in.
Overall, just ok.The good- location! A short walk to Grand Central Station and easy walk to Times Square, etc… Very friendly bar staff- for both coffee in the morning and drinks at night. Pretty good deal for a room in midtown Manhattan. However, we booked the “recently updated luxe queen room”, and if that’s the room we were in, that update failed miserably. It’s NYC, so rooms are small, but these are also outdated and felt old/dirty in the sense everything had been there for awhile - this is not your spot if you want anything luxurious. This is your spot for an inexpensive option when you don’t plan to be in the room much. The shower gel we were given in our room was half empty (I assume previously used?) and the towels had a hair on them. Small things that perhaps some can forgive, but didn’t improve our impression at all.Overall, not impressed. It was fine for a weekend stay, but I much-prefer other midtown hotels.
I stayed here for a last minute trip to Manhattan. I utilized the valet parking (booked my room to include parking) since I drove and that was great not having to worry about finding parking and potentially dragging luggage a few blocks. They do allow in and out privileges but you have to pay each time but I just left my car until it was time to checkout. With covid, most of the employees I encountered were wearing masks. Im always proactive with wearing mine either way. I was given a few options of room locations and chose one that was considered quiet since it was farthest from the elevator. I was quite impressed with the room size for NYC. Definitely enough space for me and another person. It was clean, housekeeping came each day, and I had no issues when I requested something like more towels or cups. The location was perfect for me. It was close enough to either walk or take the train to anywhere in Manhattan. I did a lot of walking which I wanted to do. It was close enough to catch a show on Broadway, visit Times Square, Hudson Yards, etc. It was nice to be in a quiet location at the end of each day. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this hotel. We had a pleasant stay. The customer service was top notch from each member of the staff. Small hotel so it was quick to get in and out. Everything was clean. Bathrooms, even the public ones, were crispy and clean. No odors inside the hotel at all. I did not get a chance to eat or drink at the bar but it was very inviting. I would stay here again. Not far from Grand Central Station and a easy walk to Time Square and other areas for shopping.
We arrived at noon and was able to get an early check in thanks to Kevin at the front desk. Thanks Kevin for being so nice and accommodating! You rock! Concierge was wonderful as well. Always opening doors and walking us to our Uber. The maid was friendly and ready to clean and provide extra towels as needed. The hotel was amazing! I love the historic charm and feeling I got during my stay. We had a room with a balcony and the views were amazing! The hotel was located on a quieter end of Manhattan and it was the perfect getaway from all of the hustle and bustle of the city. I highly recommend staying at Westgate Grand Central! You will NOT be disappointed!
Everything was awful. Walls were thin and we heard our neighbors playing their game so it was hard for us to fall asleep. Worst of all, the bath water head was spewing brown water which was just simply disgusting, now Im worried about having different diseases. I addressed this to the front desk, and all they said was that they will let the manager know. The professional thing to do atleast is to offer a refund back for this horrendous experience. I would have been more firm with them but I thought that this was a high quality hotel with high quality customer service and unfortunately, it was not that way at all. Our time was too limited in NYC, and I was not about to use our valuable time to teach people the most basic things. My girlfriend came all the way from Japan to visit NYC for the first time, and I thought that I could entrust westgate grand central resort to give her a lasting memorable experience but instead it will forever be a learning experience to never come here again. If you had a good experience here then I am happy for you, but we did not feel valued at all. I would give it a zero stars if I could.
The hotel is in a great location, a few minutes walk to Grand Central Station, maybe 10 to Time Square, and walking distance to the Empire State Building. The staff is very professional, helpful, courteous, respectful. Everything we saw was very clean. Even after we checked out, the valet stored our luggage for a couple hours while we visited the city. It was a great place to stay.
Stayed here with my 12 year old daughter and we had a great stay. Rooms are updated, stylish interiors all around, courteous and helpful staff, great location and rates. We would absolutely come here again. The only negative was the water pressure in the shower is not great. But thats a tiny detail compared to everything else. Loved this hotel!
THEY CLAIM TO BE A RESORT AND CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL 70 dollars for a gym.. most hotels have a gym.. you don’t even have a pool. So why do you claim that it is a resort. It’s a sham. It’s a rip off. Will not be staying again. I’ll rather pay that extra 70 to go stay at better HOTEL that doesn’t claim to be a resort
This hotel is absolutely awful. If you want a nice hotel in this location, the Westin is just down the street. We requested a high floor room if possible. If not, no big deal, but instead they put us on the 5th floor next to the elevator in a room facing a brick building. The room is like a dungeon, dark all day. The tub is made for a child and does not drain so you’re standing in your bath water as you shower. I’ve been to a lot of great hotels in the city, this is not one of them. How it has such high ratings is a mystery to me.Edited to add: As another reviewer mentioned, the AC makes a crashing sounds when it shuts down, startling you in the middle of the night. Housekeeping radios are unnecessarily loud outside your door in the morning. A good night’s rest here is not possible for these 2 reasons.
I loved our stay here! From the very moment we stepped in the staff was very friendly and helpful with directions on how to get to places. I would recommend this place. And hope to stay here next time I visit NY.
Hotel was alright. My concern is that both my friend and I woke up each morning with a stuffed nose, congested chest (almost unable to take a deep breath) and sore and burning throat. I believe the hotel should be checked for possible black mold as there was no signs of any of this causing our issues each morning!!!
The staff was very pleasant and the location was great for my needs, but this was the worst hotel experience of my life in terms of comfort. The rooms, like most downtown NYC hotels, are basically closets, but that can be offset by comfortable beds. This bed was the most uncomfortable hotel bed Ive experienced in recent memory. Even that can be forgiven if youre still able to get a good nights sleep but the floors AC unit must have been in my ceiling -- every time it switched on, something clanged LOUDLY. So loudly, in fact, that the first few times, I thought someone was attempting to come into my room. Once an hour, all day and night, this loud noise jolted me out of work or sleep. I didnt get a single full nights rest during my stay. Which, as someone traveling for work reasons, was not conducive to a productive trip. And it certainly would not have been a relaxing one had this been a vacation. It sounds as though other colleagues had similar noise issues, so changing rooms (had I been able to do so -- fully booked, apparently) would have been moot.
What a remarkable experience. Our first group outing and Charmaine exceeded our expectations. Our group was handled from beginning to end with exceptional professional service. The hotel itself took our breath away, we couldn’t believe the greetings as we walked in to check in. Everyone was so excited to greet us and the best part was the location! Westgate New York is located in the perfect location for our group. We visited several attractions, some more than once! The Tudor city tavern in the lobby was my go to. I was able to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a refreshing drink in between visiting attractions. The Old Fashioned has the best bitters and orange twist I ever tasted! Upon entering into our rooms (Luxe Two Queens Balcony) I could smell the cleanliness of it and the freshness of the room. The beds were made up to perfection and the bathroom was spotless. I stepped out in the hallway as housekeeping passed by to ask for extra towels and the housekeeping lady greeted me with a big smile and asked how my day was going, that was a nice touch of friendliness to my day. Overall wonderful experience we will be back personally and professionally.
Loved this hotel. Very close to everything in Midtown..within walking distance. Staff was very nice and helpful as well. Rooms are really well kept. Had to wait an hour or so to get my room but staff was able to give voucher for the bar in lobby. Didn’t mind waiting as the staff promptly kept me updated and were very friendly about the wait.
Love love love the westgate New York grand central!! Our stay was so comfortable and easy. We stayed in a newly renovated room which was quite spacious for a hotel room in the city! The bed was super comfy and the entire room was very clean. The staff was impeccable and very professional throughout our entire trip. The hotel is nice and central. Close to Times Square, Rockefeller centre and etc. Also the grand central subway station is nearby which is a bonus. I would give this hotel 5+ stars if I could! They made our stay so much more memorable. Hands down recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking for a place to stay in beautiful New York City!
From the start, my experience was less than stellar, especially for a 4-star hotel. I was greeting at reception by a surly employee with his shirt unbuttoned to his undershirt who rushed me through the check-in process and overcharged the incidentals fee — I am only staying for one night so that should have been $50; he charged $100. I only realized this after the fact. I asked for a high floor for quiet; I was instead given the 7th floor next to a loud occupant, even though the hotel is clearly not full. I could hear their conversation through the wall. And then I proceeded to get no sleep because the room was stifling hot when the air was off; when I turned it on, the air system would emit a very loud bang, like a car back-firing every 30 minutes, that startled me out of sleep repeatedly. I stay in NYC a lot and do not want to return if this is the level of hospitality provided; nor will I be recommending this place to others.
Even if the day I arrived was rainy, the heating didnt work for two days. The technician was so rude to us. He kept saying that there was no way to deal with the problem. The hotel was so terrible that I dont recommend it.
We arrived at this hotel in our car to be greeted by a doorman who immediately told us it would be $75.00 to valet park our car. I was dismayed because the website states, the parking would be included. This was one of the reasons I chose Westgate Grand Central. I had a car full of my family and my 83 year old father with me. I was told I had to speak with the Manager, I went in and spoke with Kevin. He was very helpful and had this charge removed. Keven was very reassuring and apologized for the confusion. He hen helped to assist us to our rooms and our luggage was brought up right away as well. Our stay was very pleasant. The Hotel is beyond beautiful and very clean. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. I love the Tudor City neighborhood and I felt like a local New Yorker. The doormen were very helpful as well asking us if we needed assistance. I thought the marketplace was good option for late night snacks. I cant wait to visit New York again, My family feels the same and there is no other hotel for us but this one. Thank you Kevin and Westgate Grand Central for a lovely visit.
Really nice hotel. Staff very friendly nice bar Rooms are updated and clean. Beds are comfortable. Nice wood floors no smelly old carpets and the best is the windows open so you can get fresh air on The 15th floor amazing!!! Great location on 42 st nice quiet area but in 5 blocks your in the heart of times Square
The hotel is brilliantly placed to access by foot all the major attractions from Bryant Park to Central Park including Grand Central Station, New York Public Library, 5th Avenue, Chrysler, Empire State and United Nations Buildings. The room was comfortable as were the amenities and the staff very helpful. I was pleased after my flight from Australia that I was allowed access to my room early :)
I always have a great stay while at the Westgate, but this time was especially wonderful because of the doorman José. He went out of his way to help my mom and me with parking, making us feel welcome and cared for. In addition, reception is always gracious and accommodating. Looking forward to staying next month!
Gorgeous property that is located in a perfect spot to visit any part of NYC. Right next to the subway and the ferry stop is a short, safe walk from the hotel. Loved that it wasnt in the heart of the super touristy area! Clean! Great hospitality from valet to the front desk. Really everything you could want in a hotel and a superb location. You can even see the river from the balconies!
Awesome stay here this past weekend! Conveniently located and attentive staff! Upon arrival we asked for a complementary room upgrade and Kevin, the front desk attendant and Dorlan, the manager happily fulfilled our requested! The bed was SUPER comfortable. The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas! We will definitely stay again next time we’re in the city!
On arrival we were informed about a destination fee of roughly $34 per night on top of the payment we had already made. Asking what this was for we were told “water, coffee and printing boarding passes” which we felt was something a hotel just does anyway. We then had to deal with constant banging from the air conditioning unit as well both nights we were there. House keeping also woke us up at 9am thinking we had checked out. While the bed was comfortable and it wasn’t unliveable to stay there there was much to be desired.
This hotel was completely overhauled this year and the rooms are all completely remodeled and brand new inside. I stayed here for a few days and here are some pros and cons.Pros: location is great, its near Grand Central and in a non-touristy more quiet area of midtown east, the hotel has a beautiful lobby and the staff are friendly and hospitable, the room (while small but typical for midtown room sizes) had tons of storage space, a good bed, beautiful new wood floors, and a lovely bathroom. Also, the windows are all double paned so I barely heard any outside noise at all. It was also extremely clean and there is a kiosk in the lobby that sells food and Starbucks in the morning which is nice.Cons: Its a very, very old beautiful hotel (I believe this used to be the Hotel Tudor) and every room has a doorbell which is quaint and cute however my rooms bell had a malfunction and it would ring at random times at night and in the morning which was disconcerting (thought it was a weird other guest until it rang incessantly and I pulled the door open while it was ringing to see no one there, so either its the weirdest ghost encounter I experienced or there was a technical malfunction, you decide). Additionally, the air conditioning while great had an issue with the compressor where it would cycle off and literally make a loud slamming noise. Between the slamming and the doorbell issue, it was comically bad for a few nights but this could have been an isolated room issue. All in all, its a lovely hotel and the overhaul is gorgeous and the location is great for people wanting to avoid the insanity of the Times Square hotel area.
My friend and I had a great stay at Westgate New York. Dennis, the doorman, was very friendly. By the second day he had recognized our faces and would go to the door when he saw us coming down the street. We didnt have much interaction with the front desk staff. Our room was small, but worked for our trip--we didnt spend much time in it. There is, however, NO sound proofing between rooms. The location was perfect and felt safe--close to Grand Central, restaurants, and coffee shops. Easy walk to Times Square, 5th Avenue, and more.
Good Evening I Called 4:33pm today I dialed the number 5 and the person that I was speaking too is very rude and she hung up. All I was asking if ya still hiring for hotel housekeeping and she completely hung up after I said that. Very rude.
One of the best lodging experiences I have had in NYC! The rooms were clean, the location was great, and the check in process was easy. The staff was really what made it a wonderful experience for me. Jose and Chalik who work in the front desk could not have been more helpful, they really made the experience worth while. I will definitely be staying here again when I come back to NYC.
This place was just amazing, the staff were so friendly, the rooms were nice and big (for New York) the location was just incredible. You get to be in the city without the noise and busyness of Times Square. The accommodations were excellent. Initially booked on Hotwire and I came across many issues with that site but the hotel ensured that my stay was stress free and enjoyable! I will definitely be booking here again! Don’t sleep on this spot! A hidden gem!
Overall it seemed to be a decent stay for the little time we were there. However, the AC will startle you to no end. It sounds like it’s falling through the ceiling when it turns off and on. Also, after paying $700+ they charge you an extra $100 for deposit and $120 resort fee upon check in. After we got back home they charged an additional $18. They said the lady who originally checked us in was wrong and they charged an extra $18 for the resort fee as well.
My stay was very good just one recommendation. don’t use the lobby bathrooms if there’s other people in it. the floors are reflective! meaning people can see you doing your business by just looking at the floor of the stall.
Loved staying here very quiet has a homey feeling very family friendly spacious rooms and bathroom. The only tiny complaint I have is the coffee pot wouldn’t turn on other than that everything else was wonderful. Front desk staff to the bellman were very helpful and exceeded my expectations. If we ever visit NY again I will definitely book a room here. Was worth every penny we spent. Thank you Westgate for a memorable experience.
Lovely historic hotel (formerly Hotel Tudor) close to everything! Tons of food options, stores, and CVS/Walgreens within quick walking distance. Rooms are spacious and clean. Morning brewed coffee is 2.99 at the bar, which is a great deal! I was allowed to check in early, and the noon check out time is very generous. Easy walk to Grand Central, Chrysler Building, UN, Bryant Part, and Times Square/Broadway a mile away. Highly recommend and would stay here again.
The hotel was disgusting, they put us in a small room with king bed no room to move around; no place to put our clothes; bathroom had a tub that looks like it was made for a 5 year to shower in it. The customer service was horrible, manager could not care less, not helpful with anythingIt was our first time in NYC and we will never ever stay this chain of hotels ever again.Oh the icing on the cake we found roaches on our clothes. I had to leave our suitcases outside for two days , wash everything to make sure we don’t get roaches in our home.Disgusting place
Location: good. Staff: friendly. Room: tiny. Breakfast: pathetic. Basically it’s like buying from a vending machine and you pick up coffee at the bar. They have the nerve to charge an additional $30/day resort charge. What resort?
We checked in on a very cold dayon 23rd December. It was 12F. Room was ok but the bathroom was frigid. There was no heating in the bathroom. Was so difficult even to stand in there and brush my teeth. I was shivering in there. I asked the front desk if they could send someone to check. No one came. Don’t think I will be staying here and suggesting this hotel to anyone else.
The price was great and the size of the rooms.was also great. It was definitely worth the price. However, the bidet in the restroom was broken, the shower was clogged, the ambient noise machine was broken, and none of the light switches worked correctly. That being said, the room rate was excellent, and the staff was very nice. This hotel was probably the gem of the city about 30 years ago, but it seems to have fallen into disrepair.I would recommend this hotel for a good location and good price.
Nice hotel with a nice history if you look into it.Relatively convenient, near grand central station for the metro. The bar was very slow though, especially for morning coffees. Was weird they have a massive Stella Artois sign yet only serve it in oversized bottles 🤷♀️Room was clean, tidy and a good size for Manhattan.
The Westgate New York Grand Central very recently renovated their entire property and its beauteous. We stayed for 3 nights this past weekend and enjoyed our stay in one of their impeccably kept corner king suites. Our suite had a large balcony with expansive views of Manhattan and the East River, one of the biggest bathrooms Ive seen in all of NYC with a glorious quartz vanity, a separate sitting area featuring artwork by Klimt, a writing desk, and more. Its only a few minutes from Grand Central Station and other NYC attractions, yet its quiet and charming. Highly recommending!
This hotel is really nice it’s just a bit small depending on the suite you choose. For example if using the toilet the door would legit hit your knee if opened. Apart from that The room is very clean wish we had taken pictures before we settled in an made a mess of everything. If you plan on driving to this location do keep in mind that it’s located right on 42nd st near the UN therefore parking is very limited. This hotel does offer valet parking (third party sites may say it’s free but that’s not the case) however it’s roughly 65 a night an you pay an additional 65 every time you decide to take your vehicle out.All in all minus the extremely high destination fees the staff especially the concierge team day an night are extremely helpful. They’re definitely the prime example of good customer service. We be back but for the balcony suite.
I stayed here from 4/14- to 4/6 and had a great stay. There was a miscommunication about the room type I booked, however, they took very good care of me to make it up. The room was small but it was clean and quiet. The location is wonderful. The front desk staff were very accommodating and the other staff were just as great. I would definitely stay here again.
We upgraded from a notoriously small room to a larger suite which was indeed worth it as my wife and I could actually have a bit of room to open our suitcases. We liked the blackout shades, very comfortable bed and linens, easy temp controls, and spacious shower. The things we didn’t like were NO RECYCLING cans in the rooms which, in 2021, is very irresponsible of the hotel. Also, we could connect our phones to the tv which is kind of annoying. Finally, the artwork is confusing - on one hand, there’s a lot of Gustav Klimt reproductions but they’re paired with tacky paintings by a much lesser artist. The same in the both rooms we visited. Also, in a suite, some robes would have been a nice touch to have.
The hotel is impeccable and the renovations came out beautifully! It’s a few blocks from Times Square so you if visiting the city bring your walking shoes and be ready to walk a mile, but heck that’s why most of us love NYC!There isn’t is a subway or convenient transportation but they make up for it with how beautiful the rooms are and the superb staff. They let my wife and I check in early and the newly renovated lobby has a “wow factor.”It’s truly 5 stars in and out but the only hiccup with the water didn’t drain properly in the bath and there was hair still in the drain and on the shower wall (could have been cleaned more thoroughly)If visiting the city, don’t count this one out, especially if you plan to be exploring all day! Rooms are cozy for a couple and two people maximum.
Clean, simple, beautiful hotel with incredibly friendly staff. Provided a wonderful crib for my baby. Love the convenience of the cafe and little convenience store in the ornate lobby downstairs. Really all you can ask of a NYC hotel since you should be spending most of the day exploring the city.
My family and I received world class service from Nestor, Jamie, and Christina. Room service was excellent, as well. Location is great, and central to everything in NY city.
The hotel staff was very friendly helpful and accommodating. You could tell the rooms were remodeled room were very clean comfortable very well designed. Our entire stay there it was very comfortable very rememberable and it felt very high class absolutely one of my favorite stays in New York.
The best hotel in NYC I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. Gorgeous building with a lot of history, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in – the remodeling that took place is one of a kind. High quality rooms, and high quality service. Westgate has really taken the time to take this iconic NYC property to the next level. Can’t wait to get back to NYC! Thank you for making our 1st trip back to NY one to remember!
Its really upsetting to write this review but I had the most stressful time at this hotel. While all of the staff are very friendly and seem to listen to you they dont do anything to actually fix the situation. On the first night, we heard loud banging every hour, the air conditioner stopped working, we noticed the smoke detector had been ripped out of the ceiling, and the toilet clogged up. After numerous calls to the front desk where we got a well send someone up right away we finally got someone sent up. I should not have to ask multiple times to get something fixed. Mind you, I didnt call over a period of minutes, I called over a period of hours, even into the next day. We requested more towels and maid service and was told that someone would be sent up. Come back 8 hours later and guess what, still no towels and no one had been sent up. Every time we brought something up, we got a friendly response but no action. As lovely as the people were, I did not have a pleasant time at this hotel.
Id give it 3 stars but the customer service made it a 4 star for me. Front desk was nice and helped out when A/C In my room didn’t work so room service brought us two space heaters. I also had to ask for sheets for the sofa bed. No parking anywhere so be prepared to pay for Valet. Other than that, it’s a nice hotel.
Came to New York for 2 weeks and decided to move out of Moxy mid-week to WG. While the space was a lot more comfortably spacious, the service desk and housekeeping refrains me from recommending to family and friends. For 3 consecutive evenings, I’ve called the front desk to make requests for amenities (e.g extra towels, extra cups, extra hangers), not only are the requests missed, I had to at least call up the front desk 3-4 times in 30-minute to hourly to check in on the status.Housekeeping has also forgotten to clean the bath tub in one of the evenings and refreshed empty shower gel tubes. The left side of the room (next to the wardrobe was very dusty) - did not realise it was so until I sat on the floor packing my luggage and have all grey dust settled on my bottom.Honestly quite disappointed.
Room was in great condition. They state square footage on their site (greatly appreciated). If the room is dirty or differs significantly from your booking, don’t settle in, just take pictures walk out and don’t accept a different room that is not fixed. I don’t see the complaints about the bathroom door, given the queen room size, everything is laid out very appropriately. It would be so easy for them to improve their $5/day upgraded Wi-Fi. Given midtown should have their pick of commercial ISPs, they can offer better than double their free bandwidth. Do not pay for 5 -> 10 Mbps upgrade (unless it works fine for yourself but not with multiple guests online, something like that).
This hotel is a hidden gem in New York. The service that I have received, on both occasions staying at this hotel, has been amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to make your trip the best it can be. The knowledge they have of places to eat, shop and visit is amazing! The location is perfect, you are just a few blocks from Grand Central Station. If you are not flying out or leaving until later in the day, they store your baggage and will have a driver waiting to pick you up at the time you request. I have stayed at many hotels in New York, for service and friendliness, this is by far the best. Looking forward to many more visits in the years to come! A huge thank you to Kevin for his wonderful customer service. Thank you for making us feel welcomed at your hotel! Greatly appreciated!
I really enjoyed staying here! Rooms were nice, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were the nicest! They helped with all mt random requests and stored my bags on the last day.
Ok hotel at best, not worth the price tag for the room and the service is mostly lacking for a resort. Worst part is that the bar downstairs decided towards the end of the stay to start charging $3.50 for tap water or club soda from the bar...To think they charge a resort fee for a hotel with no amenities and no free water from the bar is ridiculous.Isa who does the morning shift at the bar is the most wonderful person. The front desk staff team is nice too.
AWFUL BREAKFAST & SILLY MANAGER !Even if the location of this hotel is correct, the 15$ coupon per person for daily breakfast, even not groupable with the one of your room partner (thanks to the the bar tender, kind as a prison door, confirmed by the manager on duty !!!), allows only one hot drink, one small bottle of juice & a small package of cakes ... absolutely not at the expected level of a 4 stars hotel !The lack of flexibility of the manager on duty was regrettable.Better to consider an alternative housing solution for a pleasant discovery of the Big Apple.
After paying for the hotel in full on priceline, they still charged me a $62 destination fee. When I asked what is this for, they said - for wifi, for coffee and for using gym. This is ripping peoples money. This is apart from the safety fee of $100 (that is understandable)When I told the guy that I never heard of this before, he said we recently started charging for this.
The staff was welcoming and gave us a nice quiet room on the 8th floor. The hotel is a historical property and had fun features like a pretty doorbell outside each room. Out room didnt have much of a view, but was very quiet as it was set back from the street. It was exceptionally quiet for a room with open windows in the city. The room didnt get a ton of outside light, but was pleasant enough during the day. I dont think there is any direct thermostat controls, so we kept cool with an open windows.I dont know what it would be like in summer though. They did have a nice whirlpool tub, an air purifier and a sound effect aromatherapy device that was fun to play with, but didnt act as an A/C. Nonetheless, we were comfortable and had a lovely stay.
First time in New York and I must say, this cozy hotel was one of the best parts of my trip. The rooms are renovated and beautiful—and can I just say, wood floors?! Every single staff member my sister and I encountered during our stay here was absolutely amazing, warm, and inviting. From Kevin at the front desk, who gave us a complimentary upgrade to a larger room(!!!), to the doormen Jose and Chafik—we really felt taken care of!Even the woman at the bar, who I wish I’d caught the name of, gave me a dollar to get a banana from one of the corner vendors before an early morning run when I’d gone down to see if they had any and they did not. Can you imagine? The hospitality is just absolutely superb. (I did try to refuse, but she insisted!) It’s all these small things that added up to such an amazing stay. I would stay again here in a heartbeat!!!!Location is great. Literally a five minute walk to access grand central and all the subway lines. Additionally, there’s a CVS right down the corner for any last minute items. Just a great set up, honestly.Thank you, Westgate Grand Central! You’ve made my trip so comfortable and enjoyable! I’ll be back :)
We didnt receive the $20 voucher for breakfast which was advertised on JetBlues website and the room was very small. Other than those, polite and helpful front staff, good housekeeping and convenient location.
Have you ever stayed in the most disgusting awful motel and thought, “I wish somebody had warned me about this place?.” Well, take this as your warning. I have been staying in hotels in nyc for decades, and this is by far the absolute worst. Staff is disrespectful, rude and unknowledgeable. The room is mediocre - dirty, smaller than advertised and decently decorated. I wish I had been warned before I booked a room in this hotel because it is truly one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in NYC.
I stayed here in February and had a pleasant experience. The staff members were always polite and willing to help. The elevators are super fast. I love the quaint old feel this hotel has and I can’t wait to see it once the remodel is finished!
Our stay at this property helped make our recent trip unforgettable . This hotel is conveniently located close to the UN, as well as the Chrysler Building- my absolute favorite building in the City. Check-in was a breeze, and the employees were very nice and accommodating. Rooms were clean and comfortable- and ready for us upon arrival. We loved walking around the area and finding great restaurants for dinner. We didnt stay at this property on our previous trips, so I cant comment on what has improved since the new company took over. However, we plan to return at Christmas and look forward to staying here again.
Worst hotel experience ever. Booked weeks in advance. On arrival, I am told it’s overbooked and asked to go to another hotel as they have made a booking for me for 1 night. I get to the hotel and they know nothing about the booking. At this point, i walked back to original hotel and was told it’s sorted and I proceed to make my 2nd trip to hotel #2. They confirm a 1 night reservation and I am asked to pay the new hotel. I obviously refused as I have paid for my reservation. I am still stuck. It’s now 4am and a few hrs since my first encounter with westgate grand central for checkin. 1st time in NYC. All the way from South Africa
Beautiful hotel, close to transportation and great restaurants. The staff are all extremely kind and helpful. We got lots of great food and entertainment recommendations and the coffee bar servers were amazing.
They’re selling rooms that don’t even exist (photos do not match actual hotel). We booked directly from the Westgate website, and at check in we were informed that the type of room we booked did not exist, and that this was a reoccurring issue for guests. This room type exists in another Westgate hotel, but not the NYC one. After checking in, we were told that sheets would be sent up and that the pullout couch would be set up. When we returned to our room at midnight, no sheets had been delivered still. We had to wait until 2am to finally get sheets, after calling the front desk with no success (the girl was extremely rude and hung up several times) and eventually had to go to the front desk ourselves where we still had to wait for them to locate bed sheets. If you call down to the front desk, it doesnt even direct the call to this front desk in NYC- it redirects you to a main Westgate line in Florida... When one of our guests needed a bandaid, the staff informed us that they do not even have a first aid kit on premise. Overall, very disappointing experience- only pros were the staff that tried their best to remedy the situation as best they could and the common areas of the hotel.
I know this is one of the cheaper hotels in NYC but I would still expect more for $250 a night. The lobby is nice, the staff was friendly upon arrival and we were able to check in early which was great. When we got to the room, the bed looked very tiny, we were supposed to have a queen and this definitely looked like a full so I called the front and was informed that hotel queen size beds are just a little smaller than a normal queen. Whatever, no problem, it was only one night. We dropped our bags off in the room, the room had a somewhat funky smell and was warm so we opened a window and went out for a few hours. We are not by picky by any means, and it takes a lot for me to complain or write a bad review, however, when we came back to the room I noticed that next to the bed there was a pair of dirty mens underwear that didnt belong to my husband. I thought this was pretty disgusting. I brought them to the front desk in a plastic bag and they simply said okay, thank you. I asked if our room had been cleaned after the last guest because if it had, how did a pair of underwear end up staying in the room? They said, if you want us to call housekeeping and have them re-clean your room, we can, but it was definitely cleaned, your bed was made wasnt it? I thought this was all pretty bizarre. I expected a very different reaction, at least an apology. I booked the room through hotwire and wonder if maybe thats why we were treated this way. We still paid $250 for the room and expected a clean room at the least. I would not go back.
The lobby, common areas, and rooms were inviting, clean, and very well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were treated as valued guests throughout our stay!
This is not a 4 star hotel. There are no amenities aside from the lounge area. No gym, business center, rooftop, pool, room service or breakfast options. They dont clean the rooms on a daily basis and you have to request for it everyday. Ive stayed in several 3 to 5 star hotels and daily cleaning service is a norm and does not have to be requested. Bathroom are dirty, checked in and there were hair everywhere and dirty towels with makeup. No hot water either. Mini fridge not even plugged in and all the tags are still attached. They are a 2 star hotel the most. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Elevators are old (you can call them vintage). Rooms were very clean and modern but our room was very small. The hotel staff used the same elevators as the guests which is fine, but I swear every time we used an elevator a guy with a cart of luggage crammed in and we could barely breathe. The breakfast was OK (3 stars, maybe?). As Hilton diamond members we didnt have to pay for it, and its a good thing because if we did I wouldnt have eaten there.
Clean and quiet, the bathing products are pretty good. There is an air purifier in the room. It could provide few kinds of fragrances in the room, as well as some music for your relax. The service takes 40 dollars per night after 25 minutes free experience. One of the spot here is the curtain cant be pulled down completely.
I paid for a suite. Ha! The ceilings were so low, its good that Im short. The furniture looks like it was bought at a garage sale, the couch should be thrown away, its so old and the mattress was more springs than padding. It was musty, the AC was so noisy, I left it off. The bathroom was outdated with ugly tile, very low water pressure in the shower and toilet. AND the lighting system!!! So antiquated. The room was dark and so unappealing. I had to move out of the Weston for they were booked when I needed to extend my stay. I paid the same amount at both hotels but I would never go back to the Hilton. My husband is a Hilton Honors member and this hotel lacks the Hilton quality weve come to expect.
Just stayed here for 2 nights over Thanksgiving to see the parade. Upon checking in the staff was very professional and checking in could not have been made any easier. Pulled up, staff helped with bags, they parked our car, and we checked in. We were in our room in no time at all. Beds and pillows were so comfortable, I hated to get up. The staff at the coffee shop, especially Isa was so sweet and accommodating, like she new us forever. Very happy and would stay there again in the future.
First the problems. Specifically requested a room with a jetted tub was told only the suites had jetted tubs.. Purchased a suite for one evening since it was for my boyfriends birthday ,got to my Room had no tub at all only a wheelchair accessible shower . Was then switched to another Room on another floor finally had a jetted tub but the jets didnt work. Called down once again to see why the jets did not work and was told that none of the jetted tubs are working as per managements orders. When I told them I ordered the room specifically for the Jetted tub or I would have stayed in a different hotel was then given complimentary breakfast. Room had no refrigerator or microwave had to request that a refrigerator be sent up..crazy Meanwhile trying to everything together for my boyfriends birthday. That complimentary breakfast that I received for you know not getting the Room that I requested ...sub par to say the least . Now on so the good things about the room ..the room is beautiful its also very spacious ...stayed in the one bedroom suite. Hotel is beautiful it is in a great neighborhood plenty of shopping and sightseeing to do. Staff was very friendly Honestly speaking besides my disappointment about the Jetted tub and lack of fridge and microwave, my stay was wonderful and I would come again to this hotel
I dont write reviews but I feel strongly that I will not be staying here again. I have stayed at this hotel twice for work/ proximity purposes and frankly that is the only upside about it! The staff is helpful but not kind. My reservation was lost and my upgraded room was smaller than the next. IF you are lucky to have a functioning window it will be a view of a brick wall. Most recently, my bathroom had wallpaper scratched out of the wall? The minimal channeled television will be your entertainment unless you want to pay 10 bucks for wifi, so bring a book.
The hotel staff were nice, the room was clean and tidy although not the biggest of rooms for a queen suite. The bed itself was comfortable and made every day by room service although we did note the sheets were never changed during our stay. As for the view, well, it may be worth asking when booking the room for a proper view. It would have been nice to be able to watch New York at night from the comfort of our room but the brick wall put paid to that and we werent advised at time of check-in by the front staff. Other than that it was a reasonable stay within easy walking distance of Grand Central, 5th Avenue and Times Square etc.
Definitely location is excellent! Front desk person, a young man, was very kind and helpful. On the down side, we called twice room service for blankets and towels, and nobody came to provide towels or blankets. However, room was clean though pretty small.
The room was small like most NY hotels. The hvac system was making noise because it was on A/C, forcing me to bear the noise or turn on the heat, which made the small room extremely hot. There was a large amount of mold on my bedsheets. I was unable to eat one night because the ONE microwave available to guests was locked up for the night. The location isn’t the best, not much around. Public transportation (trains/buses) is close though. Resort fee covers what exactly? Wi-Fi and newspapers (I didn’t use either of them). Easy check in/ check out. Day shift ladies were very pleasant, that man at night not so much! Doormen we’re very helpful and friendly. Overall it was not a good stay. Will not be returning or recommending.
Its ok... Not great, but Ive stayed in worse. Its no longer a Hilton hotel and seem to be a little disorganized at check-in. Couldnt find my reservation. The guy checking in next to me was paid in full online and they tried to charge him again. Hotel is a little dated and should be upgraded at this price. Ive stayed at another hotel a block away and it was a MUCH better experience there. Im not so disappointed as to leave, but I definitely wont be back.
Such a great hotel to stay at in New York City! A quick walk away from Grand Central Station, The Chrysler Building, and everything else you would love to see in the city! This resort just had an incredible remodel to the rooms and the lobby. Worth checking out next time you are in New York City!
The staff was amazing especially Jamie and the bellman. The room was great except for the TV and shower had no cold water but we adapted. The balcony had an amazing view. My wife enjoyed her birthday stay!
My experience of staying in this hotel was good, staff at the entrance and reception was really helpful. Check-in and checkout was breezing fast, room was nice, clean, tidy & furnished with all the major amenities. Room service was good too. The best part is that this hotel is near to Grand Central so its easy to move from here. Overall very good experience.
During check in the front desk staff was less than friendly. We get to our room and the housekeeping manager and another employee are arguing. Once we step foot in the room the strong odor of mold/mildew permeated. The carpet was damp and after staying for a few nights our clothes became damp. The air filter in the ceiling was BLACK and looked like it should have been changed months ago. There is also no fan in the bathroom so the steam makes everything worse. The only upside to this hotel was the location, bell staff and the bed and pillows. I will not stay here again. So disappointing.
Westgate was one of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in at NYC. The location is great and located right next to Grand Central Station. We even felt safe walking around the area late at night and during the day, there are tons of coffee shops and stores within quick walking distance. The staff was so friendly and helpful as well. I am going to try to make Westgate our main stay when we come into the city.
We really liked this hotel location not only for the views but because its outside of the normal tourist areas. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were very nice, our king with a balcony was perfect!
Pretty clean hotel. Rooms on the front side of the building are pretty tiny. Had a condensation issue with my room where it dripped water right on top of the bed. Friendly staff.
The room we stayed in was ok. Nothing special. The shower handles are weirdly unnecessary complicated and they even had a big sign explaining how to use it with diagrams and stuff. The bag service checkin was very useful and helpful. They were very nice about it. Their cafe is very basic and dont serve late at night with limited order to room menu.
We are still here and I may add additional input..so far we are very happy! Nice location, comfy rooms. Most important the staff is very nice. Kevin helped up during check in and it was a pleasure. He was helpful and the the room service staff is wonderful. In general everyone says hallo which makes all the difference!
This hotel was ok, not horrible and not great. The basic amenities were all there, but it just felt worn and dingy. I know NYC hotels seem to think they can charge anything, so I guess $400+ only gets you an ok room. I had a queen bed and view of some internal alley with bright fluorescent lights. The cleanliness of the bathroom was good enough. I also used the gym which was in pretty poor condition. This hotel would be great for someone looking for a quiet place to stay and isnt too interested in a lobby area or amenities. Of course the location was great. The hot breakfast buffet had a lot of choices as well.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, absolutely everything was divine. The Concierge Staff (especially Jose), Front Desk Staff(especially Nestor) , Bar/Snack Staff (especially Esi) … everyone was amazing. The room was superior, fresh, newly renovated; more spacious than some NYC hotels I’ve stayed in; large, tiled, walk-in shower; very comfy mattresses and bedding; quick, smooth elevators; posh surroundings and decor; we never entered or departed that the concierge wasn’t there to get the door, assist us into our Uber; and arranged rides/taxis. Westgate is a gem; close to everything.
Location is great with access to metro nearby and tourist type areas. The room I stayed in had a nice few. Room cleaning was done in a timely manner. The room is spacious as well as the bathroom. Great price and would stay there again.
If you think about a nice sized hotel room with a king size bed, cut that in half. Then cut it in half again. You still dont have the size, BUT, if you cut that in half again, then youd still have a room bigger than this and the messed up part, THAT was the upgrade! Now, Westgate- YOU KNOW BETTER! Ive been coming to Westgate all over the country since I was a teenager and this one, closest to home was absurdly and absolutely the worst room EVER! You cant stay in this hotel and be anything over a standard sized person because you will be very uncomfortable. The room is small, the bathroom is small, the closet is small, the windows are small, the hallways slap you if you sneeze and the elevator definitely hugs you in a way you dont need it to. And for nearly $400- this is New York ladies and gentlemen. Good luck (and dont stretch too hard- you might touch the ceiling by accident).
Great hotel! The location was perfect, comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful staff. When I go back to NYC I’ll definitely come back here.
An amazing hotel, staff, and location! We upgraded to a room with a balcony and it made a huge difference! I will be returning! The check-in was quick, the rooms are very spacious and nice and great location!
Great hotel. Very clean and the room was just what we needed. Good size bathroom and room. The location of the hotel is good too, you are 10 mins away from Grand Central Station (walking). The only thing we wished we had more of was restaurants. You dont really have a good variety near by, but you are only two or three train stops away.
I caught COVID while in New York. I wanted to quarantine in my room to protect others but the Front Desk refused to bring my Uber Eats food up to my room. They told me that I had to go down the elevator and pick the food up from the front desk. They were risking the lives of their guests and employees. One time when I went down the elevator (with covid), 2 employees got in the same elevator as I went down and I felt badly for them and I hope they dont get sick, but if they do its the managements fault. I was doing what the Front Desk told me to do. Shocked and stunned these people were so willing to kill people to avoid having to bring something to a guests room.
I would give this hotel a ZERO⭐️ when we stayed there was NO ac, coming from a humid ass state I was hoping to stay in a cool room. The worst part was the toilet would not flush, after many request to get it fix it was still not fix. Its a pain in the ass when you have to go downstairs first thing in the morning to take a dump! They gave us comp and a credit but partial credit for 1 person- we had 2 people. Still not enough for the inconvenience it caused us on our trip. Would not recommend at all!
Check in was easy, had the room ready early. Room itself was nice and of the size you expect in NYC. It was quiet with minimal road noise. The bathroom needed updating. Service staff at the cafe was kind of rude but not terribly so.
Loved this hotel. Old New York but nicely kept up. My room was spacious esp by NYC standards, I had a bathtub (!!), double paned glass, very quiet, had a question about the ac and someone came up within 5 mins, great breakfast, very sweet staff. Great location. Great price. I stay in NYC a ton and this was one of my best experiences. Thanks Westgate!!!
Hmmm...quite tough to rate this hotel.Location: Excellent, about a 7 minute walk from Grand Central and 20 minute walk to Rockafeller Center. So 5/5 for location.Room: The room was decent, not too small, but acceptable. The bed was very comfortable, however I found the shower head was lacking and didnt have enough volume to feel like a real shower.Bellhop service: Excellent. Theyll get the door and call you a cab and are very friendly.Front desk/concierge service: The concierge that I talked to seemed annoyed when I asked my questions such as how do I get to pier 25? They told me to take the AM42 and I had to ask what that was and she said bus in a bit of an annoying voice. While the front desk was okay in itself, I would expect better from the Hilton brand.Verdict: Great location, comfy beds, but friendliness and service are lacking.
