Our first night of our NYC vacation and this place did not disappoint at all. The band was amazing. The staff was very attentive and gave us great seats so we could see and enjoy the band completely. It was a pretty slow night. We were told it was probably the heat. Not a problem for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner which included the Vesper drink (the only pic I have of the food), House Gin & Tonic, Rigatoni and Shrimp, Orechiette Pasta and, of course, NY cheese cake.

Had such a nice time here on a Friday night! The club has 2 sets of live jazz every day of the week 5:30pm-8:30pm and 9pm-12am, except Mondays, and a nightly swing dancing class at 8:30pm taught by a professional instructor! Even if you have two left feet, you can come and enjoy the old timey New York vibes of this place and music alike. Everyone was dancing and people seemed so happy enjoying the singers and music! Be aware that there is an additional cover charge if you sit and dine in the main jazz room.I especially love that they have a $50 pre-fixe dinner menu that includes 3 courses of food! I enjoyed the mussels and steak while sipping on the Swing46 cocktail. Be sure to also check out their $65 bottomless brunch menu that includes a brunch starter, entree, drinks and music charge!

Swanky! We enjoyed ourselves for sure. However, this place is for jazz fans! The food was good, the service was great and the talent was amazing. If your seated in the performance area, you need a flashlight to read the menu as the ambiance of this place is dark. There is a $30 musician fee added to your bill. They auto ad your tip, however they were very good to tell you they were adding it. I also noticed that other restaurants in NY also did this. It was an experience for sure. Not sure I would go back but if your into jazz, check it out.

Was so much fun! Would give 4.5/5 stars if I could! The swing 646 option lets you get an entree, appetizer, and dessert for $55. Drinks are about $14-17. They do charge an automatic %18-19 gratuity, and its $15 per person to sit near the jazz. This plus a bowl of soup made the bill $150.00 for two of us. It is a bit expensive, but its so much fun and definitely worth it! The staff are very friendly and engaging. They did a free class when we went on Thursday night. They were happy to take pictures and interact with the customers in a friendly, supportive, and engaging way. The soup + food was great. The music was excellent. And the atmosphere was super enjoyable! 10/10 would recommend for a date night or NY adventure.

Normally I would have given this place 5 stars. The service was welcoming and friendly, the music was great, prices were reasonable, and ambience of the venue was warm and old school. What ruined the evening was my husband’s tax exemption card NOT being accepted by the bartender. Keep in mind that it was a federal card - and according to federal law, diplomats are not obligated to pay taxes.Had this happened in a small town I wouldnot have been surprised . But it was shocking in NYC- first time that the tax exemption card wasn’t accepted in our nearly 3 years of living here .

If youre looking for a lively and sophisticated night out in the city, then look no further than the jazz swing club with live music and nice interior. From the moment you step inside, youll be transported to another era, where the cool sound of jazz reigns supreme and the atmosphere is electric. The interior of the bar is chic and stylish, with a touch of retro charm that adds to the overall ambiance. Speaking of which, the performers are top-notch, and their repertoire spans a wide range of jazz styles, from classic swing to more contemporary takes on the genre. In terms of drinks, the club has an impressive selection of cocktails, wines, beers, and food, all served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality of the drinks and entertainment on offer.Overall, if youre a fan of jazz music and appreciate a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, then the jazz swing club with live music and nice interior is a must of visit.

I have never enjoyed a bar more. The live orchestra was amazing, and the band and crowd alike all seemed as if they were enjoying themselves. Dancing is encouraged, whether you know how to or not. The drinks are well mixed, the staff was all personable and friendly. The atmosphere was inviting, and everything clean. I will absolutely be coming back my next visit to NYC, and anyone who plans on visiting should plan some time to visit this quaint spot.

Great spot for fine dinning and live jazz music. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The musicians were pros and it felt like I was in a movie scene. The cheese ravioli was among the best I’ve had. They have a wide selection of Italian dishes ($35-$50).They have a few requirements:$10-15 per person for the jazz show.$35 minimum spend per table. The ambience is pleasant. The wait staff were really courteous. However, the guy who answered the phone when I called them was very rude. So I had to take one star off.

She took her time to find out what we liked and helped make suggestions. We also heard her singing while working and her voice was so beautiful she definitely should sing with the band. Swing 46 has been a home of jazz and swing for many years and they are reopening inside dining on Valentines Day and I am so excited! Dont miss out on experiencing this amazing venue. Several nights a week they offer big band music and other nights quintets and trios. There is something for everyone! The staff and crew will make your experience wonderful. In the summer time, the patio offers trio happy hour jazz and beautiful beverages and delectable food.

Swing Jazz is a place where every New Yorker should go to. Entrance was $10 per person and we alerted a group of 11, had a great time with drinks, jazz and some dance moves on the floor. Place is open till late night and there were three performances the evening we went to.We were not only greeted by hosts but the Jazz players also stopped by to say hello to us. One of the musicians - Anthony was very friendly and towards the end we all ended up becoming great friends.Definitely a spot where you would like to go on a date or with friends for an evening.Whatever you decide, SwingJazz won’t disappoint.

My partner and I walked in for dinner. We were told it was a $15.00 per person cover charge to sit with the jazz band out the back. I declined and said we werent interested in the show especially as it was already running, just dinner. We were told sure, we could sit at the bar. I said nah, whats wrong with the empty tables up front? Nothing, so we sat there. Took another 5 minutes for someone to check on us. We ordered the rib eye steak. Im not sure what the steak was that they served but I can assure you it wasnt rib eye. It was a poor quality cut of fatty meat.We ate what was edible, which wasnt much. Asked for the bill and went to pay. Their machine wouldnt accept pay waive from either my phone OR the card. I instructed the staff to remove the automatic 22% gratuity as I was not paying a tip for poor food and poor service. Glad Im a tourist because I would never eat here again or recommend the place to anyone.Rude, terrible, expensive.

I wanted to love this place. Dance floor was decent sized but not huge. The band was great. The cover charge to me was a bit much though. I would have preferred to have to had ordered €20 worth of drinks. The actual bar is in the front of the place. Then you enter the restaurant which seemed to be upscalish. The dance floor came next and then the stage. Theres a disco ball and mirrors which give it a certain feel. Location is good in sense its close to times square, but that added stress to find parking... Didnt eat, only danced. Also in opinion it started too late. It started either 9 or 930pm.

This was my pre-pandemic five-star review:Great music, service, food, and drinks. Perfect place for a first date or a fun time in general. Take the dance lesson if you can. Its a good way to meet new dance partners and mingle.Heres my one star review in 2022.I have been a patron of Swing 46 since the 90s but was saddened to find how the club is being run these days. When I called to ask about the time of the dance lessons that I love so much, the person answering the phone said they have them no more. He exclaimed that this is because Dance lessons are stupid! I asked if I could share with him why a long-time patron felt otherwise. He said, No! Dance lessons are stupid! Go somewhere else for dance lessons! He then told me other places to go rather than Swing 46. Very sad.If a Swing 46 owner is reading this and wants to know why the lessons were amazing, heres why. It was a fantastic way for me to introduce those new to this music about this music. It helped people get to know one another in a non-threatening way which is often hard for the ladies. It was a fun way to build comradery and mingle. Im sad to take the business of myself and my numerous friends elsewhere. If lessons ever come back, please reply to this review and let me know.

Terrible service. A bit laughable actually. We came late on a Tuesday night, after a nearby show. They had a swing band and ushered us in. While they discounted the cover for the band as there was only 30mins left, our server had an attitude and acted like we were an inconvenience. We managed to order some sub par food but felt like a bother for it. She ignored us and began cleaning up tables for the next day. When I tipped below the 18 or 20% at the end to settle up- she physically came back to the table and asked- WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE SERVICE?!I was super taken aback to be thrown my bill back at me and said nothing mostly because she was so aggressive I didn’t want to say - well you gave poor service and had an attitude. She then lectured us angrily and said SO NORMALLY IN NEW YORK WE TIP 18-20%.It was incredibly awkward and she was very much intending to publicly shame us. It wasn’t like we didn’t tip at all she just was mad we didn’t do more. Avoid

Besides bullying us to pay 18% tip, which is illegal, and it is up to the customer to rate the service, the manager confused us with other couple they had problem in the past and asked us to leave. We gave the tip to the waiter directly in cash and another waiter thought we were leaving without giving tip and started pushing me out, while I was trying to tell him we left tip in cash. Be careful if you’re a tourist here. It’s near time square so you already know scams are heavy. There’s a young guy at the door who explains how the place operates and try’s to get people to come in. The outside menu states $50 for a 3 course meal. Rmr this is New York after all so be very careful and ask lots of questions before going in. Once you’re seated, they hit you with the menu. The $50 3 course meal, suddenly is $55. Half way in your meal, they hit you with another charge for watching the show as this place plays live music. Your server tells you it’s $20 per person (which they fail to let you know outside). Food was edible, ok ,but nothing special. My husband and I had terrible service. The guy who served us our dishes didn’t come to us to ask how our meal was or fill our water. You really had to flag this man down who I noticed looked over at our empty table several times. A little confusing as the place was not busy and this man had so much time. I guess he didn’t care as the place throws an 18% service charge to your bill (which they claim on the menu as “May be added” LOL. Seems like all the people near us got hit with it. Also if you pay with card, they add another bill so FYI, carry cash and READ YOUR BILL THROUGHLY! Performers were good but unfortunately the service was trash. Step it up Swing 46. This place over charges firstly they want to charge 15 dollars to sit in area where the music is secondly when we paid the bill we was pressured to pay an 18% service charge and told this is normal in New York we have been here 3 days and not heard of this. I don’t mind paying a tip when service is good but the service here is not good at all. I am from London and have never been pressured to leave a tip yes sometimes this is added but can be removed without pressure. If you go here be prepared to be pressured at the end of your evening

Tone deaf management that doesn’t seem to understand that the food is bad. Period. Full stop. Doesn’t matter if the atmosphere and music was amazing. The food was the worst I have ever had. The fries were soggy and the crab cake was cold in the middle. The shrimp cocktail was not spicy, only a step away from ketchup. If you go, buy the cocktails and avoid the food or better yet go somewhere else and use your dollars for somewhere that deserves it.

My wife and I picked this restaurant out of all the restaurants in the area. We were seated inside, we had already ordered and a few minutes later, someone came in and sat near the window, which was near our table. This person came in with a dog that was roaming around at times, sitting on the chair, wagging his tail close to the dishes on the table. Then the person was on the phone talking loud and every other word was profanity, it was as if he was the only one in the restaurant. None of the staff said anything to him. Not sure if he was the owner or just a regular customer, but everyone knew him on a first name basis. It was very rude and inconsiderate how John was acting. Last but not least on the negative side, the etablishment smell like cigarettes. In the end my husband and I asked for our meals to go. The establishment didnt ask any questions, not sure if they really cared, but we were very disappointed. When we got to our hotel room, and tried our meals, we can say that it was very good. Thats the only good thing that came out of the experience.

By far one of the worst dining experiences in all my trips to NYC thus far. We got in last night and wanted a bite to eat in a cool spot. It took 25 minutes and two reminders to get a glass of wine. The calamari was over cooked, the crab cake was meh, Portabella mushroom appetizer was good. Everything took a ridiculous amount of time, every staff person was completely loaded. It took another 25 minutes, 2 attempts, and finally my husband getting up and going up to the bar to get the check. I was ready to walk out, but he’s too nice of a man. On our check was a mandatory $20 music charge. The restaurant itself is very cute, if only the staff and food were entirely different. This place is a total bust, don’t do it. There are other fantastic spots all up and down restaurant row.

Pros: great music, lovely place, lively atmosphere. Cons: cover charge and price of the food had me expecting some really tasty fare... but failed to deliver in that department. I ordered a Rigatoni and Shrimp; it came to me like it was swimming in soup rather than the creamy rich garlic sauce it promised to be. The taste was okay but bland. Service, while friendly, was a little slow. For the price, I was expecting better.

I was very impressed with the musicians that performed at this place . The musicianship level of a swing jazz band, the big concert band that played on November 7th, 2019 is exceptional. I was pleasantly “shocked”!The atmosphere is chill. We felt ( our group of 10 friends) as if we were on a set of Woody Allen film. The crowd is mixed - patrons of all ages are welcome.Regarding food- we did not come for fine dinning and did not expect it.The cover charge of $15.00 is very reasonable. The band is qualified to play at Lincoln jazz center. We had a fun night out. Will go back .

Everyone enjoyed their food, mine was a pasta primavera in a rich and lovely tomato sauce, and the cocktails were especially good. The music was fantastic - a great variety well executed and the few couples on the dance floor were very fun to watch. We didnt get to stay for the full swing dance lesson but it was a nice way to fill intermission. While it is true that the upholstery and bathrooms could use updating, that is really my only complaint. It was a very nice experience in the heart of Midtown!

Would have liked to put NEGATIVE StarsHORRIBLE NEVER PLANNING ON GOING AGAINMy husband and I visited Swing 46 a few times before COVID. We enjoyed the dining, lessons and dancing. On April 30, 2022, we were looking forward to our first time back.We were SHOCKED - Absolutely HORRIBLE owner/management.We arrived looking forward to a night of great music and dancing - 7 of us in total. We ended up walking into a majorly toxic environment. The owner - John - berated our friend (who had planned the get together) multiple times. None of their staff seemed to be on the same page regarding cover charge amount/min order, seating, etc. The owner and his henchman (arrogant waiter-name escapes me) spouted different things. After finally being seated we were ignored for the rest of the evening. The rest of the staff seemed to walk on eggshells. One waiter (Joseph) deserves a shoutout - he was kind, courteous and respectful. We all felt terrible about leaving him with such a dysfunctional/toxic management team.We came in as paying customers looking forward to dinner and dancing. We ended up witnessing toxic insanity instead.I dont know if John was on something but it was unbelievable. As we were leaving, he continued to berate our friend and when we expressed that his attitude was disgraceful, he went BEZERK. He was cursing and shouting like a lunatic. Maybe he thinks the tourist crowd like this garbage BUT we are NOT tourist. Not only will we NEVER go there again but we would caution anyone even thinking about it.The owner is arrogant, abusive and TOXIC - the food is insanely overpriced, the drinks so-so and the dance floor is miniscule. I feel for the bands and Joseph. No one should have to put up with this type of abuse.Definitely NOT recommending!

We were all uncomfortable for the band. The 30 minute dance lesson was lovely even though there was a limited amount of dance floor space. The live music began shortly after 9:30pm and that was a lot of fun for everyone. At intermission, we went on stage (along with everyone else) to take pictures and we were also scolded ourselves by one of the men from the wait staff loudly & multiple times. Once again that was very unprofessional. This is New York, Im sure there are better swing clubs out there. We will not be coming back.

Not worth it. We visited around 6pm on the 22nd. Meal for 3 of us was $207.00 plus a 20 percent tip on top (as i always tip 20 percent no matter what) We had 2 steak dinners and 1 chicken dinner, the steak was mediocre and the chicken I believe was undercooked as my girlfriend has been sick and throwing up and had severe diarrhea. The vegetables were not fully cooked either. The server was rude when we didn’t order drinks, as we were not going to originally drink, and his demeanor changed so I decided to get a dirty vodka martini, it was horrible and the olives were stale and hard. The server came and told us after being in there for 30 mins that there is a $10 per person cover charge for the music that was outside their main entrance, very mis leading and shady to do that. The music was not bad but not worth and extra 30 dollars added on. They said it’s cause “they have to pay the band” you tell your customers after they have been there for 30 mins that the music that’s being played from outside the restaurant is going to cost them?? The restaurant was not busy at all which should have been a sign and the owner/manager had his dog inside and it was running around. Whole experience was not great and for what we paid I believe it could have been a lot better. I had to find my server anytime I needed something and the cherry on top was how nasty the restroom was, toilets were dirty with urine stains and the floor was sticky and it smelled like urine. I honestly would not recommend this place. There are a lot better restaurants in the area where you will get your money’s worth.

For a venue promoting itself as a place for dancers, it just wasnt what is promised to be at all.We wanted to have a nice meal and thought that judging by the prices, food must be amazing. To say a $1 ready meal is better would be an understatement. How difficult is it to get a vegetable pasta right? Still being hopeful, thought ok...guess were also paying for the venue and the band in this price. Nope, we found theres an extra charge for the band ($15 dollars a head which apparently was a discount...not judging but other reviews!!). Food was fantastic. The bands are always top notch. However, Swing 46 needs to make some major changes regarding dancing! I have been here 3 times now and the dancers are treated like a tourist attraction. You walk in and once the doorman/woman finds out you are a dancer she/he gives you the stink eye because they know you will only be paying the cover charge and not purchasing many drinks or food. They require you to check in coats, bags, umbrellas and anything you brought. You then have a very small (even for NYC) dance floor to navigate and you are constantly being told to get out of the way. If you are waiting on the side for the next song to find a partner to dance with, you are told you are blocking the view of dinner guests trying to watch the dancing. All 3 times I went, I felt like I shouldnt be there and I was just a necessary attraction to draw more tourism. I am not writing this review to discourage people from going to Swing 46: The food was fantastic and the bands truly are wonderful. But, as a dancer, I would absolutely not make this a regular hangout and wont be persuaded to come back until they treat the dancers better.

We had an amazing time dancing. The band and the singer were really into it and you could tell the crowd was feeding off their energy. Love the vibe and the amazing music ♡ I cant wait to visit again

The band was amazing, and the staff super friendly. Only had drinks, no food but those were good too. Dont go if you dont like LOUD music. No talking allowed. But they played my favorites, Ricky Vallens era kind of stuff

These people are horrible. The older blonde woman at the door and the younger dark haired guy were 100% trying to take advantage of my 3 friends and myself. We came in to kill time before going to another spot. They ushered us into room with the live music after asking us if a 2 drink minimum was okay, to which we said no and that we would leave. She said that no, one drink was okay. We had our drink, went to pay, and had been charged a $15/person cover charge that we had never been told about. As expected, we were a little upset. We attempted to address it with the lady at the front and she immediately became defensive and told us not to yell at her and that she did tell us. Long story short... they knew we were tourists and all female and tried to take advantage of us. They’re horrible.

The concept was nice but the execution was off. It was something different to do but I wouldnt do the Murder Mystery there again. The appetizers that came with the meal were good but the main course was just ok. I had the steak which I asked for well done and was just a bit more than medium and the potatoes were horrible. It appeared to be boxed mashed potatoes. My friends said the drinks were ok.

I offer sincere thanks to John and his entire staff at Swing 46 for the warm and friendly reception we received last night - the celebration of my wifes birthday could not have been more fun. Everyone in our party of 26 had a swell time and we were surrounded by dozens and dozens of others who seemed just as happy to be there. Our dinners were delicious; tastier still was the music when Felix & the Cats began to play. The happy mix of novice and expert dancers sharing the floor had us all up on our feet and joining in. An absolutely wonderful, friendly place to dine, dance, and enjoy the music.

If you love jazz. big bands, an old supper club feel from 40s movies and great food, youll love Swing 46. Live music starting at 8:30 during the week and 9 on the weekends. Sometimes they have dance lessons too. But even if you go early, the food is worth the trip.

Place was horrible. We were crammed in like sardines. It was very loud. And the audience did not participate as much as other places. Some of the actors were over acting.Food was ok...I doubt we would go again. For what we paid for the dinner and show...If you like paying alot to hear screatchy voices and alot of yelling is a great place.

The Calamari was great! The drinks were also good. A bit strong but good. The band was amazing and the atmosphere was also a nice setting.

Its a music club with live swing band but you have to pay more to sit in the dance / band area to watch the band. The club was virtually empty so the pay more approach must be putting people off of going. A shame because it could be a very good venue. We visited mid week so this could explain why it was quiet.

Good cocktails but the decor needs a lot of work in the dining area. Install a tin drop ceiling and paint the walls a light cream color and its a good start. Wont feel like a cave anymore after that.

Visiting New York for my husbands 50th. He loves swing music so I decided to book the swing 46 as a birthday treat for him. Booked a table on line from the UK for 7:30. Was not told at this point that A the music doesnt start tell 9:30 and B that a 20.00 dollar charge per persone for the bands wages would be added to the bill along with a 15% tip. Have to say this was really not worth it. Ontop of this I had to pay 2 dollars to get my coat back. We spent over 265.00 dollars in this place and I have to add the food was really not brilliant and the wine very very very over priced. We paid 45 dollars each for a steak????? And 48 dollars for a bottle of red roja which I can buy from a supermarket for £7.00 at home and no more the £15-18.00 in a restaurant. I was asked on leaving if everything was ok and I replied honestly no, the food was poor and over priced, the wine expensive and the final straws was being charged for the entertainment and my coat, to which my response was your paying for the band....Now whilst I dont mind spending money on a good time what so ever I do really object to being ripped off and believe me thats exactly what this place has done to me as a British visitor to New York I doubt very much weather I will ever come back again.. Id rather go back to the Ritz, where yes its expensive, but its a great service and stays in our own country!! I love travelling and love doing city breaks, but everything about tonight has left me with a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about not only swing 46, but New York and the way it rips people off....I thought Florence was expensive, but New York wins hands down. Wouldnt even mind if the service was good and attentive, but tonight at Swing 46 Resturant it was the pits and would highly recommend that you stay away and spend your money somewhere else........even McDonalds is better value for money(And that a saying something) plus the entertainment free!!! I very reluctantly give this a 1 star rating, and it only got this because I had to give it a 1 in order to be able to leave a review. If I could have not rated it I would have. Even the toilets are disgusting...

Only gave 3 stars because they make you check your coat and almost everything else you bring for $2. Its not a lot BUT after spending $20 for standing room only (you have to purchase $100/person at a table)I feel like thats just adding fuel to my cheap person fire hahaha. That being said, the place itself and the band are amaaaaaaaazing! The band is fun, personable and energetic. The staff is pretty cool. Theres one guy that walks around in 30s swing dancing attire kinda just to keep things lively it seems. Hes pretty cool. You feel like youre walking into a club in the 30s or 40s its amazing. I will come again. Next time Ill just bring less stuff though haha.

Great and attentive service, food is a little pricey for its quality but makes sense considering the location. We went on Saturday night and watched the Swingadelic band play live and also enjoyed watching talented guests dancing - a great way to spend an evening in New York City!

We just got in to a birthday surprise party, we did have reservations we just didnt know under whos name was it. The hostess (blonde older lady) was very unpleasant and rude and very impatient with us, she just wanted us to leave her personal space. Her behavior is so unprofessional and unwelcoming at all. She needs to learn how to work for customer care.

Good live big band jazz. I was surprised to come here and see actual jazz music. Usually you get some amateur trying to improv his way through Jamey Aebersold which is great, but to see seasoned players hits the spot. Cool location too.
