Kume Spa - 19th Street

My friend gifted me a Groupon here for the 90 minute reflexology and body massage. Overall, great massage and all staff I encountered were relatively friendly. Kume Spa was very clean and I really enjoyed my massage. I would definitely come back again, the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because they charge a $5.00 fee for using Groupon. I never had this happen to me before and I use Groupon enough, this was also a gift so I don’t think I needed to pay more in it. I was only thinking I had to tip since it was a gift.

Disappointing experience!First off, I was late, which was my fault ( I went to the wrong location), so maybe that impacted the quality of service.But, I went with a friend through Groupon for foot reflexology. And nothing about the massage felt like reflexology. She didnt hit any points at all. It was just my calves mostly being rubbed up and down for an hour. Also, she massaged one of my feet but not the other foot. When I get a pedicure I feel like I get way more pressure points massaged for a fraction of the cost.:(

Highly recommend Jeremy - he is an extremely skillful masseuse and focused exactly on the areas I need requested. I get massages fairly often and it was one of the best I’ve ever had, with consistent deep pressure while also being very relaxing. Will definitely be back to see him!

I had an extremely bad experience. the staff double booked on a time slot that I had booked first, I had to wait 30 minutes because of their mistake. We came in for a couples massage, my partner and I reserved two different massages, due to inadequate communication between the front desk and the masseuse, they mixed up our massages and realized their mistake over half way through the massage after I told them. Their response to their mistake was “Ahhhh, why didn’t you tell me!”. We booked an hour massage but the masseuse cut our massage short by 15 minutes for no apparent reason. The two masseuses who were providing the massage were engaging in banter at our expense throughout the entire time, I am a black man but I do speak – but more importantly understand – mandarin Chinese, so I understood everything they were saying… it was not nice. Here are some things that were said:Banter 1:Masseuse 1: how well do these people (black people) tip?Masseuse 2: Not much, don’t expect anything over ten dollarsBanter 2:Masseuse 2: wow, look how big her butt is, think its real? *Proceeds to tap my partners butt*The person massaging my partner (masseuse 2) had really rough hands that irritated my partner’s skin. For several day after receiving the massage I felt lower back pain (not in a good way) and my partner had neck pain. Everything about this experience was objectively unpleasant and made me wonder how is this business still in existence. I would never recommend this facility to anyone I know, even those who I don’t care for.

This place is the absolute worst. My massage therapist had absolutely no Idea what she was doing. There was no targeting of the areas I wanted work on. In addition to, in experiencing pain in my spine for the first time.DO NOT GO THERE.

I wanted to like this place but unfortunately I do not recommend. We were able to choose the area of concern on our body. I circled my lower back, for some reason she focused on my shoulders I never asked for that. I asked for medium pressure she applied very hard pressure during my massage. I am still in pain due to the massage being so rough. The lady was not friendly. At the end of my service the front desk person had an attitude that we only left $5 tip. I didnt appreciate that, especially because a few tip is not mandatory. I will not be returning here.

After I left early from work, I decided to get a massage that my back really hurts from working overtime. I worked at the post office as a PSE Mail Processing Clerk.When I got here, I paid for 30 mins full body massage and cupping. The male therapist did massage my back so good and he did a cupping on my back. It hurts, but I endured it.After that, my back felt so much better like I can able to bend and crouch. I felt so great. Next time, I will do my legs and feet massage.

Ive done float therapy here twice and LOVE the staff and facilities. I just purchased two Mothers Day specials to enjoy this month and next.

Good massage and foot reflexology with Michael. Great deal for 90 minutes. They do make you stand outside to enter until they are finished checking out other guests. It was rainy and cold on my visit, so that was a slight inconvenience. I’m sure they do that because of the guy who killed the people in the spa and the Asian hate crime bill that came immediately after. I get the safety procedures, but my nose was runny by the time they let me in. Receptionist was nice enough, not too much just polite. Michael was nice. The massage could’ve been better, but it was the first time for us working together so it’s understandable, too.

I seriously had one of the best massages and foot massage ever at this place. Clean, quiet and well priced

I got it from Groupon. Price and service was great. If not Groupon, Im not sure if i will pay regular price for it. Location was a big factor.

I had a great experience here. For some reason, Im always nervous to get a massage from a stranger. Raine was excellent and calming. She really listened and helped me with a painfully strained back. I feel like new again. Thanks and keep it up!

First of all, I got there and the therapist was 30minutes late. When it finally started it was almost like a torture section. I screamed at some point in pain and she mocked me instead of slowing down. It almost felt she was doing it out of anger.I asked to not get massage in my legs and she did it anyways. Also paid for 1hour massage and because she was late it was only 40 minutes for the price of 60. Although I didnt complain because I wanted to be out of there as soon as I laid down. The whole experience was horrible and I wont ever go back to that place. Good luck!

I highly recommend Eddie as the massage therapist. He is extremely professional and knowledgeable about which pressure points to target to alleviate specific pain. I trust his massage therapy skills and his character. He has a deep understanding of the human anatomy and traditional medicine. He truly knows how to provide the best treatment for his clients. I give him a 5-star rating for his exceptional and professional work.

Not what i was expecting. i left a more detailed review on grupon. 90 min massage was more like 70 mins after all the wait times. no communication between massage tech and client. I dont know how to explain the massage i got other than really weird. foot reflexology was more just her rubbing lotion on my legs nothing to do with pressure points or a massage.

I ended up here by accident and it was a dream come true. I walked out feeling like a new woman. I purchased a membership right away. Everything here is next level from the time you walk in the door, to the service, cleanliness, energy. I’ve done the Cryo, sauna, and float and cannot recommend it enough. Everything is clean, they offer fresh water, tea and extremely loving and caring service. There are no mirrors in the rooms, all products are natural, earth friendly. If you want yo treat yourself and show yourself some love, this is the place to go.

TLDR: I paid for an hour long massage. I got a mediocre massage for 45 minutes due to Kume’s scheduling problems.I’ve been here a few times before and had no issues, a good experience. I was even recommending it to friends since their prices are very reasonable. After this last appointment, I won’t be returning. It is not a well run business, and they seem to have scheduling issues. My appointment was “canceled” 15 minutes before it was supposed to start, but no message was left, just several calls from an unknown number. So I had no idea my appointment was canceled and arrived at the location to be told to turn around and go back home. Super annoying. I was rescheduled for the next day and offered a $10 add on. A bit cheap since they charge you 50% of your appointment if you cancel on them within 24 hours of your appointment, so apparently their time is worth more than ours.I arrive the next day, and they are running 15 minutes late. It was 11am, and they open at 10a. Again, they have scheduling isssues if it’s already behind so early in the day. I was assured I would get the full hour (spoiler alert: I did not get the full hour). I checked the time on my phone, and it was 11:15a when I laid down on the table. I was worried about not getting the full hour, so I checked the time right when my massage finished, and it was 12p on the dot. When I explained this to the front desk person, they still charged me for a full hour, and still asked if I wanted to tip the therapist, Wendy, who ended the massage early. I felt bad and tipped her anyway, but she also did not focus on the areas I asked(probably trying to make up the 15 minutes), and even without the scheduling issues, the massage was clumsy and underwhelming. I let him know I would not be returning.

I really like Kume Spa! I’ve visited a total of three times so far, and would absolutely go back. I think the pricing is fair and the massages are great. The only reason why I give them four stars instead of five is because some of their masseuses are better than others. My first two times were amazing and this most recent time was just okay— but that’s the luck of the draw whenever you go to get a massage anywhere. The staff are friendly and the ambiance is nice. I would highly recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes early because parking is not the greatest in this area; the location is otherwise pretty convenient.

Unfortunately my experience was not what I was expecting :(. I bought a 60 min full body massage from Groupon and redeemed it the following week. I was asked to fill out what areas I would like to focus on and what pressure I would like my massage therapist to use. I chose to have medium pressure and to only focus on my back and back legs. The massage therapist must have not read my preferences at all because he immediately started digging into my back with his knuckles and elbows. Even after I requested he go lighter, he continued to use extreme pressure. I was in pain for most of the experience and my back and neck honestly feel worse than when I came into Kume. I also did not want to be rolled over onto my back, but he ignored that request and rolled me over to give me an odd head scratch with his nails (very cringey and not enjoyable). Overall I would steer clear of this place or get a therapist that actually listens to your requests.

One hour massage was cut short to 50 minutes. Deep pressure was very light pressure. I wouldn’t come back again. The masseuse wasn’t professional at all even leaving in the middle of the massage for a minute to yell something in Chinese to the receptionist. It was uncomfortable and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

This place is in the central part of Oakland with street parking (metered). Prices are higher but you can try their services with Groupon first. They will charge you 5 dollars for that when you come.There is nothing special about Kume spa. The receptionist was a bit friendly, but massage and amenities are worse than expected. Rooms are not completely private (very small) with shared walls so you can hear everything. Cui was my massage therapist - his motions were repetitive, not healing. He also massaged only the back side for the entire hour. When he went to get towels he was gone for about 10 mins. Not friendly and not asking for feedback during massage. I will not be back here. Maybe the center on Grant is better.

I used to love this place for their average massages and open walk in time slots. But I dont think Ill be going back. The masseuse banged on an ankle I explicitly asked them not to touch in the intake form. He confirmed it with me before the massage. He banged on it once and I asked him to stop. Then he still did it again! Now I have a stinging pain and its day 2. It used to be so convenient so Im sad to lose this spot as my goto. But Ive decided its not worth it.

Jeremy was my massage therapist, I added hot stone and CBD oil to my massage. Foot and body with added foot scrub. They have CBD gummies and hot tea for added relaxation. I will be back it was a great treat

The most uncomfortable massage I’ve ever had.I never thought it was possible to feel bad for your masseuse, but they had a very kind 60 something man grunt, strain and shake as he tried to apply deep pressure. I genuinely wanted it to end, for his sake and mine.This is the first time I’ve ever asked that a massage end early. This is the last time I’ll use Kume.

We made a 90 minute massage with foot reflexology appointment for my mom for her birthday. The masseuse refused to do the foot reflexology and abruptly left the room after 60 minutes. After waiting for 40 minutes the front desk lady says that there was never an appointment scheduled, but they took our money before the appointment anyways. ??? They said they called us to cancel the appointment this morning, but called the wrong number. We did not receive any email or text saying that the appointment was canceled. The masseuse was extremely unprofessional and rude by not listening to my mom while she was trying to communicate with her. They even offered my mom a cold bed in the beginning. They said a warm one was not available. My mom refused to get a massage on a cold bed without blankets since it is also so cold outside. She said she would wait for a different one to open up. One minute later, there was suddenly a bed with blankets open... Overall, it was an unprofessional and sad experience since we planned this for my moms birthday.

My massage was excellent. Selected medium pressure and it was perfect. So relaxing and my masseuse was silent for the most part but did check in to make sure the pressure was good. Will go back again for sure. Staff was polite and it was a great birthday present.

I had a great massage and my girlfriend too had a great massage. The service and Communication before and during the massage was great. The place lost 2 stars because I felt forced to tip the masseaus. The lady at the front desk asked us if we wanted to tip and after ignoring politely as we were students she voiced herself atleast three times and I personally felt uncomfortable around the other guests . Overall great service just the tip aspect should be an INDIVIDUAL CHOICE. Thank you

Fist time here, been to the location on Grand Ave several times. Its smaller and they dont offer all the same services but theyve replicated the super cute lobby shop and have lots of fun things to peruse while youre waiting. Parking is WAY easier at this location. Front desk service was very friendly and welcoming. Paul did my 90min combo massage, and it was fantastic! Great pressure. Thanks Kume!

This is first ever review on google. My experience at Kume, coming in I thought the place was pleasant. My girlfriend and I got in about 30 mins early. We knew we would have to wait; however, I was so excited for our couples massage today. Our appointment was at 7:15 pm, but were notified that our therapists were running about 10 mins late. We were seen 20 mins late. We had a 60 minute massage, which was all but pleasant for me. They made sure to give us the full time. I requested deep pressure with a focus on back and shoulders. Wendy, my therapist, continuously used elbows after asked not to, left me exposed during time to flip over, and didn’t address any of my focal areas. Also used her elbows for a bouncing on my back. I left in pain, and without a happy experience. However, my girlfriend’s experience was the complete opposite. She loved it! When I went to the front, I informed the front lady how I was uncomfortable throughout the whole massage, she comp my session and offered a free enhancement for the next time which was super sweet of her, and she didn’t have to. She later informed me that my therapist didn’t speak much English and that may have been the problem

There can be a bit of noise transfer if other patrons are being loud but generally I dont find it an issue. The quality of service makes it all worth it. Treat yourself to a couple hours of bliss, its well worth it!Emphasis on the therapy in massage therapy. This is less the relaxing kind of massage you fall asleep to, than the hurts so good, works the kinks, knots and stress out of every muscle and feel like a new person massage therapy.Theres street metered parking or a couple paid lots around the block. Mornings usually arent an issue.

I had a fantastic experience with my massage today. Bree was very welcoming and enthusiastic and helped me check-in and feel comfortable before my massage. Simon was clearly experienced and was able to tailor the massage to my preferences. I couldnt recommend getting a massage here more!

I’d give them zero stars. I had a bad experience with the masseuse. Very poorly trained and I’m still having back issues from that visit. I did call asking to speak with manager so no one else would have the same issue. Diverted to merna’s email address no response after multiple attempts. Tried their website and that email address is also not setup.All around very scammy and no concern for the health or happiness of their clients.Don’t trust them

I’ve enjoyed a monthly one hour reflexology throughout my pregnancy—just be sure to let them know you DON’T want to be induced and they will avoid your triggers for that—unless it’s that time for you and then I recommend requesting Leland—who specializes in prenatal massage

Avoid, avoid, avoid!My boyfriend and I came here for a couples massage and it was easily the worst massage either of us has had in our lives. They put pressure on your spine for 30 minutes instead of massaging like, the MUSCLES in your back.Not only that, I’ve never had a whole body massage NOT include the feet. Lackluster and a waste of time & money.
