Came here on Friday to see Trinity Jane, Dalchord and Mirabelle Skipworth. The venue was an awesome space to showcase local talent and music. They had a decent size menu. Not too much but not a whole lot. Like the perfect pairing. Food came out quick. The breadsticks were heavenly! 10 out of 10 on those! We ordered 2 rounds of them!Bartenders were friendly and quick for drinks.
Google Review of Spirit Lounge - Afro-Caribbean PartyDate of visit: Saturday, June 15, 2024Rating: ★★★☆☆My guest and I attended the Afro-Caribbean party at Spirit Lounge in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. This was our first visit to this venue. Despite having paid $25.00 in advance, the doors opened 30 minutes late without explanation, which was disappointing (Rating: ★★★☆☆).Access to the venue involves navigating a long flight of stairs to the basement, which could pose significant challenges for individuals with mobility issues (Rating: ★☆☆☆☆).The interior, however, was impressive. The space opened up to a large bar with additional restaurant seating in the back and a spacious dance floor (Rating: ★★★★☆). The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with young adults enjoying the lively Caribbean music, and the dance floor was consistently packed, spilling over into the seating areas. The DJ excelled in maintaining a dynamic and enjoyable atmosphere (Rating: ★★★★★).On the downside, the restaurant limited its offerings to pizza despite a more extensive menu being advertised, which was a letdown since I had hoped for salad and wings (Rating: ★☆☆☆☆).Another significant concern was the indoor smoking of marijuana, cigars, and cigarettes, creating a discomforting environment health-wise and detracting from my overall experience.Overall, while the party theme and music were enjoyable, and I might consider returning before the summer ends, improvements in menu variety and adherence to smoking regulations could enhance the experience significantly. This review incorporates my detailed feedback on various aspects of the visit, offering a balanced view of my personal experience at Spirit Lounge.
Its a cool intimate venue (old Moose Lodge) but the sound isnt the best, not is the lighting rig. Ticket prices should be less for the quality of show. I did love that it felt like VFW shows of my youth.
Great music for the era they catered to. No fights, no issues, good time. The food was good. I just wish there were more options. All that dancing youre going to do, you need to refuel .
Excellent place to get together with outside seating that is completely open on the sides so you feel as though you are sitting in the fresh air. Completely under cover. Excellent service. We felt warm the whole time with those tall heaters that they have supplied plus the ceiling heaters. Their menu is excellent. Their drink menu is creative. I enjoyed my whole experience there and I will go back soon
We have popped in here multiple times during Friday and Saturday happy hours and brought our toddler. I’m always worried that places won’t be pleased we have a toddler in tow, but the folks at Spirit are STELLAR. They’re so nice to us and her, they don’t mind that she dances on the dance floor, and even turn on the disco ball for her.The pizzas are always unique and tasty, and the drinks rotate frequently so there’s always something new to try. Happy hour pricing can’t be beat!Appreciate Spirit and especially their staff for always welcoming us in. My favorite hidden gem for PGH parents!
Spirit was the best decision we made about our September 25th wedding! Leigh was professional, an excellent communicator, and honestly shouldve been hired as our day of coordinator because she handled it all! Spirit has FANTASTIC food FYI, the space was unique, and we were able to give it our own touch which was great. Everything with Spirit was wonderful and seamless. Plus, outside of weddings, they have fantastic shows! Cant recommend Spirit enough for your wedding and fun weekend plan needs!!
Good vibes, lit environment, fun music, and best of all, people actually dancing in 2024. Everything I was hoping for a Afro-Caribbean Saturday
Great bar/venue, good pizza too! Really fun programming and a good crowd, also can be pretty laid back on some nights too.
Nice place for a wedding reception. Food was great and the staff were very helpful. Only downside was the bathroom was very small and a bit dirty.
I was absolutely pleased with my visit to spirit. I had the fingerling potatoes and they were excellent. They were cooked just right and we’re light and crispy on the outside. The dipping sauce was creamy and delicious. I really enjoyed sitting outside. The seating was open and spacious and they even have heaters for chillier days. Gmr
Great place to relax and have fun. Plenty of events and activies such as Nerd Nites, singles events, concerts, themed nights, and so on. And when theres NOT something going on its super chill and layed back, plus the staff are always friendly.
This was a super fun bar. We went on a night where there was a DJ and no cover. They had great pizza and decently priced beer. We danced all night and just had a wonderful time. It seems like the spaces it very multifunctional and the management seems to be able to navigate that well. We went back the next morning because we left a sweatshirt there and it was open for brunch and obviously had a totally different non-night-club vibe.Go there if you want a good time.
I always loved the pizza! Many kinds, including non dairy and vegan. The bar is long and clean with friendly folk behind it. Also the room is epic. Catch a show here!
I was gonna have fun but then they forgot to give me a wristband & blamed ME for it lmao; $60 down the drain, what a disappointment for such a hyped up placeedit: for the record, this review is a lot more calm than my own feelings about this, i wasted hours of my time and money for a complete waste. what a joke of a venue
Fun atmosphere and vibe. the people are fun and the bar usually isn’t too crowded. the employees who are at the front door could use some work though. went to an event that had a different cover price online than they said at the door, when i showed the employees they were incredibly rude about it and made me pay the more expensive price despite it not being accurate on the flier.
Best pizza in Pittsburgh. Always a nice selection of craft beers and cocktails. Fantastic selection of events all year round. Small parking lot around back with limited street parking available.
Im not cool enough to be at this place but I go anyway because they get good acts. They serve drinks, theres food too (it does what a bar should). The bartenders keep up with the large crowds. This last time I went there was this cool installation that made me feel like I was inside a Winamp visualization. I guess theres a downstairs there but Ive only ever been upstairs. Theyre even nice enough to put an outdoor heater for smokers and the guy checking your ids outside when its cold.
Inclusive and cute! But the bouncers at the 21 and over section go over the top. I understand its a business and you are trying to keep people safe but stop touching people that make honest mistakes and go the wrong way.
I was only in the downstairs room. Bar staff was fast and friendly drink prices were on point. Food looked good but didn’t eat.
I went to Spirit for their brunch buffet on Sunday morning. Its unlimited food and coffee for $16 and you have tons of choices: pizza, salad, bacon, eggs, vegan options, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, Mac and cheese... We sat outside by their school bus, it was great. Food was super tasty, original and home made. Highly recommend it!
Came for a show and the staff here are so friendly and chill. They definitely made the night even better than it already was. Yall definitely had the A team bartending tonight. Thanks yall. 💪
Amazing atmosphere! Great food! Serious ambiance with eclectic mix of art lining the walls... Mixed crowd. Only downfall no accessibility to upstairs performance space where the show I was to attend was being held. Check with promoter before purchasing tix if you use a chair...see if ur event is on 1st level stage or upstairs. .. But management was so cool and apologetic and listened to my suggestions about a small stair elevator or stairglide or some type of lift system. They also took care of my meal and drinks. Awesome venue besides the one hiccup but have ramped entrance into the first floor areas.
So far so good. Sitting at the bar waiting for The Joe Boots screening upstairs, and of course my slice of pizza. Very friendly wait staff. Outside seating is also very cool. The music is not too loud. I am here early 7pm, on a Thursday night and people are just starting to arrive. Will definitely be back.
No mention of video not being allowed anywhere. Have brought video camera in many times. For whatever reason turned away this time when literally everyone has the capability to record 4k on their phone. Like why? Lmao
In an old moose club. Outside still shows the original asthetics. Walk in and head through doors to downstairs. If youre from the Midwest its like walking into your grandparents basement. There food is setup buffet style using food trays similar to elementary schools & prisons. And its GOOD!Theres a DJ in the corner spinning all sorts of good music and the service is great.
I had a great time here! The bar downstairs was great. The staff, bouncers, and bar tenders were very friendly, and there is a great selection of beer that is reasonably priced. The venue upstairs is AWESOME. The sound and acoustics are great, and there was plenty of room even though the show was completely sold out. This was a great place to have Pittsburgh Skullfest. Thanks to the owners and organizers for hosting such a great show! DOOM was awesome and I had a blast! Cheers!
I loved this place nice staff tasty pizza and the dance floor was lit
From record fests, to punk shows and rap shows, to live pro-wrestling, this venue has something for everyone. The staff there are top notch human beings who legitimately have my back and the back of anyone who would patronize their business. The drink selection is great, from cheap beer to craft beer and craft cocktails, they once again have something for everyone. Pizza is delicious, and the bagels served at brunch are even better.
My favorite bar, that serves one of my favorite pizzas in town. What could be better?Very much a family vibe with the staff, they stick around and seem to look out for one another, as well as the customers. Always would recommend to go dancing, see live music, or just get pizza and some drinks.
Saw a concert here. Cute little venue, bar keeps are stellar folk and the pizza is phenomenal
Really fun place to dance for people of all ages! Love the different themed nights they have and the custom cocktails are delicious and creative. Some cover charges can be a bit high, but overall it is definitely worth the visit for the quality of the place!
I went to an Afro-Caribbean party there. The room was great. The acoustics were just amazing - most clubs/parties are super loud and distort the music. The only drawback was the lack of air flow. There was a fan on the floor; but it wasnt on. Once the crowd was on the dance floor, it got rather stuffy. Thanks to the bartender that gave me one of her hair ties to pull my hair up. 😄 Great first impression for me. Ill see yall again...
Its one of the best venues in the Burg that supports small bands!!
If youre going for pizza, their pizza is the best! If youre going for an event, they have lots and are usually a super fun time. Many different cocktail and beer options. And lots of space. The bathrooms get dirty pretty quickly on a busy event night. Theres usually a coat check during the winter months. Parking all around the place.
Spirit always slays. Drink specials are awesome, and the pizza is hugely underrated. Plus, I love the old school feel of this vintage Elks Lodge. They also host some of the best shows and dance parties in town. Definitely check it out with your friends or if youre looking for a great place to brunch on Sundays.
Love this pizza and this venue! They have two concert rooms with a bar in each. The smaller of the two has a bar and tables you can sit at and a smaller stage relative to the other room. The other room has a larger stage and a sectioned off bar area. You cant bring drinks outside of that area, but its still an OK view of the stage. I think I prefer the smaller stage as it has more alcohol options, but obviously the more popular shows are on the larger stage. One time I went there and the staff was switching shifts and my pizza was forgotten in time and space
We just had our wedding at Spirit (ceremony, reception, and after party) and it was PERFECT! Leigh was beyond helpful every step of the way, food was delicious, whole team was amazing & they really turned the best day of our life into a full fantasy! Can’t recommend Spirit highly enough, or be more grateful
Good placeGreat bar serviceLove the aesthetic with low stage and big dance floor plus the seatingIdk about the glass cups though.
Food here is always good and service too. This specific night was sundays Bingo Bango which is fun but slightly smaller staff and just a little different experience there. Always happy to go there, and miss their weekend breakfast buffet.
Wasn’t impressed with the sound here for a show I attended. Everything sounded extremely muffled and voice was super hard to hear. Probably won’t see another show here.
Pretty cool spot. Saw bouncing souls here a year ago and had a good time
Great venue, would love to drive down and see more shows here.
Went for the Mac Miller even 10-2 and it was so much fun. Great people. It did take them the entire event to let everyone one in. They could work on there timing to get folks into event.
We used Spirit to cater our wedding! When we started to plan, Spirit was high on our list for possible food places. They already had become a staple of ours during the pandemic for great pizza, salads, and more. The fact that they had a mobile pizza oven was all the more intriguing. So, how’d it go?The food was as tasty as expected. All the spirit quality delivered remotely. So delicious. The pizza truck was fun, and succeeded in providing true brick-oven pizza even on a rainy Pittsburgh day in early March. One caveat is that during the event, there was a time where the pizza was coming out far slower than people’s interest in pizza :) I guess that’s to be expected, but worth knowing about if you’re planning for this event. We had 56 people, and there was about 15 mins where several people were waiting for the pizza table to refresh. We did have other trays of food, so that helped, but the pizza is so good, so that’s what people wanted. We got many compliments on how great the food was after the wedding. The servers were very helpful and did their part to make the night a success. They were responsive to requests, and made a point to get the special dinners we had for people with dietary restrictions to them. Also, during the planning, Leigh (Spirit’s Operations Manager) was great about making sure that anyone with dietary needs got a good meal. Very helpful. As for communication, it was always professional and friendly. But at times during the planning, communication was slower. I imagine part of this is because catering (especially offsite) isn’t Spirit’s main focus. Also we were planning several months in advance. All told, we’d definitely want Spirit food at a future event. We’d recommend actually having the event at Spirit since their pizza making capacity on site will be much greater, but for a fun alternative to traditional event food, you can’t beat the taste of Spirit!
Very cool venue! Staff was super friendly and helpful as well!
Went there for a show. Only reason Im not giving 1 star is because the sound system is pretty good. Sounded balanced and would maybe consider returning depending on the show just for that.Considering this place is primarily a restaurant, the food served at the show was pretty sad. Bartender was rude, line for drinks and food was absurd, and the space is cramped with barely any seating at all.Stage and room lighting sucks, feels more like a birthday party space than a music venue. Also, tickets were through ticketmaster so fees were like 50% of the ticket price. This is a $15-20 ticket venue, $50 after fees is just ridiculous.
Spirit is a fun place to go when roaming Pittsburgh. Artists and bands from all over the world are party there and they are not biased to any genre of music. The pizza is great. The staff is a mishmash of cartoon-like people in this super fun place to hang out.
Best pizza from scratch in town. The staff is really nice and helpful. The shows that are thrown there are amazing. Should get there early though because capacity hits most nights. Not too long of a wait though depending on what show is happening that day you come to.
Very cool place. They always have something for everybody, whether its their diverse musicians that play or there great patio. Pizza is amazing. Garlic knots are amazing. Food is great. Drinks are reasonably priced. Bar tenders are friendly and attentive. Never a bad experience.
I have been waiting for Google to hit me up for a review. I had adult beverages and no food. My drinks were cold and tasty. The Spirit is an hour drive for me. I am looking forward to going back. I saw the Skeggs there. Great atmosphere. Parking right across the street. We had a lot of fun. Go check it out.
Our wedding at Spirit could not have been more perfect! The food was exceptional, the drinks were delicious, the space was beautiful, and the staff was professional, efficient, and kind. Working with Leigh was truly a pleasure and she executed all of our ideas flawlessly. Leigh and the Spirit staff went above and beyond to ensure that the day went off without a hitch and they succeeded. Truly, everything was perfect. I highly recommend Spirit as a wedding venue and as a spot for delicious food and drink on any regular night!
Terrible service. Too many bartenders tripping over each other not taking orders correctly. We asked for a round and got two rum and cokes? The bartender didn’t know what a drink chip is. Pickle juice was god awful disgusting. Don’t waste your time or money here.
There is so much to Spirit. It is one of a handful of queer spaces in Pittsburgh. Their pizza is amazing! The sourdough crust is *chef’s kiss*. Their drink selection is typical of a dive bar which keeps the prices down and the dancing is great. If you are overwhelmed with the loud interior then their outdoor space is spacious and is usually temp controlled in the winter time. I just wish their outdoor seating was open until later. It’s nice to have the option to step outside and catch your breath or to have a conversation.
A nice, low key, comfortable spot. Drinks are good and cheap, bathrooms are clean, food looked good. Staff is great.
Went to a live comedy show there. The whole place has a cool, old school, dance hall vibe to it. Very comfortable atmosphere really helps the experience.
Spirit was the PERFECT venue for us on our October 16th wedding. We have always loved the space and knew it was right up our alley with a blend of pizza, music/community venue and blue collar Pittsburgh vibes. The entire process was easy and Leigh was ultra helpful. (Go ahead and hire her as your coordinator and she will take care of you). The space was flexible and accommodated our wishes for a marching band, live acoustic music, the best DJ in town and a lovey garden to get married in. Unfortunately, It rained on our wedding morning and the team quickly alter plans to bring the ceremony inside and it was perfect. The food was excellent and our guests were satisfied! We had spectacular pizza, tender pork shoulder, a beautiful seasonal salad and the yummiest fingerling potatoes. We loved the food so much that we came by for brunch the next morning for freshly baked bagel sandwiches. The staff was helpful and quick on their feet, we were so grateful. As with most venues, there are some things you’ll need to rent but Spirit let you customize your look and bring in whatever you wanted. They were so flexible and let you take control of the entire event. If you want a more alternative wedding that is memorable and fun, Spirit should be your first pick. Now that it’s in the rear view mirror, I couldn’t imagine it any other way. So grateful to the whole team, especially Leigh and their amazing chef who refined the menu for us!They also have amazing shows, great brunches and are growing and evolving the space into a community focused multi-purpose space! So cool.
I was very impressed with the pizza at this place. I had heard it was good and then I saw it. I had to have one. It is square pizza and it is very good. The crust is better than the sauce but the whole thing is very good and after being out for awhile with friends it hit the spot! Also this club has great music and a big crowd. Very popular plan to stand in line sometimes.
Best bar in town, from the space itself to all of the eclectic events to the drinks and food service and most importantly the staff who make this place special. Definitely a unique establishment that really brings multiple different communities together. Stop here on trivia night, for bed by ten dance party, or brunch on the weekend. Also, the pizza is bomb. You wont be disappointed
Really interesting atmosphere. Its an old private club that has been turned into a hipster hideaway. There are electronic sound machine stations to play around on and a wide open environment. The Pizza was really great that we ordered and the salad was decent too. Id recommend! They had a pretty decent selection of craft beer as well.
I heard the Sunday brunch was amazing... and after tasting it, I agree. I love the funky vibe of this place, and the pizza is fantastic. I also appreciate the selection of art and artists (including work for sale) that is integrated into the decor. Overall a great use of this old building, and a great place to hang out.
I came back here for the first time in years for a concert. I must stay it was a great small venue. Pittsburgh has been really hurting for small venues of the last few years. it is good to see Spirit in still here and getting good bands in for show. I hope to return soon!
Amazing venue and very queer friendly
Had an awkward encounter. We met up with work friends for happy hour but then got kicked out because of an event. Our work events coordinator said she didnt see the event when we were gauging the location for the Monday prior to the Thursday hangout. They told us we should have given them heads up we were all trying to head down, but I guess they would have kicked out their normal patrons too since the event was $25 entry.
We ordered ahead of time and picked up for a covid-safe date night at home and we werent disappointed! The white pizza is a personal favorite and the lemon-ricotta cheesecake with blueberry compote was a perfect treat to finish the meal. Im always happy to support such a great establishment with wonderful food, drinks and staff who are always pleasant and helpful!
Went for an event (The Emo Bands Emo Karaoke). The setup was nice. We were upstairs (another event was downstairs). When you walk up the steps the stage is immediately to the right and there is a nice open area in front. The bar was in the back. There was some seating, but it was minimal which was fine because of the type of event. Drinks were good and I think pretty average price for the area. The womens bathroom needs a bit of work and their accessibility is definitely lacking. The stalls were really small and up some stairs so anyone that is unable to walk would not be able to make it there.
Spent the night upstairs stage and I always liked the open set up. Sound was fantastic. Just a heads up spirit provides wristbands and depending on the age of the show guest they will barricade surrounding the bar for guest over the age of 21. You cannot walk out with drinks outside the barricade so just be on the lookout for the staff working that area. You can get pizza upfuture. Bathrooms are located on opposite ends and for girls there is only 1 bathrooms so just prepare some time to go to the restroom. The bar is very nice upstairs and bar staff are always nice and it looks like they take card too although I used cash. Just a heads up most of the time the entrance is cash only and there is an atm on the same floor. They do have it blocked off in the front for smoking. That night they had coat check which was pretty cool. Will return for a metal show here in the futuee.
Went for a drag show, bar staff was so friendly upstairs, and accommodated food with our drinks! I didnt go downstairs into the other bar but even at the entrance, staff on either side were so friendly and welcoming when walking into the place!
I go here all the time. They have by far the best Pizza in the city, along with the best grilled cheese Ive ever had. Im pretty sure they make everything from scratch and go as far as growing their own herbs and spices. The bar tenders are always very kind and attentive.. one of the best spots in the city to find local music from artists of all genres. Like I said, Im always here with my friends and if youre looking for a really down to earth cultural experience this is the place to go.
This place is wild. The bar is awesome and the food is really good. I didn’t expect to have such great pizza in this place. I highly recommend.
Great place for holding art shows and musical performances. Held our Love Dungeon II show along with a few other shows weve been guests of. Only gripe is that the bathroom is pretty small and if theres a huge concert, there can be a bit of a wait.
This is a pretty sweet place. The sound system is very good and its set up very nicely. The outside keeps a run down aethestic but the inside is very nice. The concert venue was just awesome. When I was there they had these cool lights that went over the stage and crowd, they really added to the experience.
Went on the Thanksgiving Eve event Make Sure You Have Fun. Its a cool venue. This particular night was moderately attended so it was easy to dance, walk around and have a seat if the spirit moved. Drinks were strong and really tasty. They had several rotating DJs that were all amazing. The downstairs was very dark which I found good for just cutting loose. The upstairs had this trippy dance floor. Great dancing great music great drinks. Fast bartenders. Had a great time.
Super great brunch! Lots of vegetarian options, really great variety--I dont usually go for buffet style since I cant usually eat enough in one sitting to justify the cost, but it was 11/10 worth it for once! Hope to come back soon for one of the evening events.
Went there for summer recess, very disorganized, lacked in variety of food and drinks, vendor drinks were overpriced. Music sound quality poor on outside stage. First time at Spirit. Will give them another try and another review when no event is going on.
Yea, this location needs a review.I revamped the bar with an awesome crew who work there now. This place has it going on! Im not biased either. I just love the space, the people involved, the damn good pizza, and the incredible shows that come in and out. The ambiance keeps you positive and there are always people to meet with stories to share.Beer selection is straight PA local and the liquor selection is wide.Check it out!
I had an amazing time last nite 6/17.....Good energy great customer service ...I danced the nite away...Reminds me of my Reggae days at Capri...Afro Beats Reggae....Yo It was Dope...Defintely have to check it out...The DJ was on point Every third Sat of the month...
Cute lil venue! Got to see Dance With the Dead perform here, and the crowds energy was amazing! As someone with knee and back problems, I was really happy there were tables and such to sit at that I could also watch the performers from, and still get that fully immersed concert-adrenaline feeling. Granted, its quite a small space, so if you arent so young anymore and do better with a place to sit down between the occasional gleeful flailing around to the beat, get there a bit early!
It was our first time here today and was slightly disappointed because we came following reviews. We waited about an hour for our food and it wasn’t even busy. Steak and eggs came out cold and our breakfast sandwiches were also cold to the point where the cheese didnt even melt. The best dish was the biscuit and gravy that came out first. The server was kind and kept apologizing for the wait.
Wouldn’t be a bad place if the beers weren’t 30% higher on average than the same beers at the next bar. Brunch is okay there, But they need some more options for meat eaters besides baked bacon (gross) And meat gravy made by somebody who has no idea how to make it. And please put some other pizza out besides pepperoni! Seriously tho, the alcohol prices are stupid high - $8 a beer on avg?
Spirit is an incredible place to host a party! The downstairs lodge area was exactly what our party needed. LG, Kyle, Tyler and the rest of the crew did a great job accommodating us! Cheers to Spirit! 👏
Very cool and hip place to chill. The staff is very hardworking and very nice and they gave so many cool venues there like everyday its amazing and everybody there is very welcoming. I love this club. If you havent gotten a chance to come out you definitely have to
Pizza was good. Bartender forgot to put the order in for over an hour. Kitchen guy was rude when we asked for an update. Once they put in the order they said it would be right out. Then the guy says 20min. It was closer to 40. No apology when the pizza came to the table. No offer for compensation. We asked for them to take the pizza off the bill upon paying. They obliged. Then they proceeded to charge us full price for our happy hours drinks. Wont be spending my money on food or drink here anymore. Get it together, Spirit.
I love this bar. They have so many different bands and some of the most entertaining events I have ever participated in. The ballroom upstairs is huge and perfect for any event. The outdoor patio is one of the nicest in the city.
This review is for the downstairs bar. It ok at best. The drinks are well prices. Staff is decent. Nothing that really makes it great though. The music and crowd seem to be a little on the hipster side. I havent made it to the upstairs club yet.
I think I was ethnically profiled at Spirit, mistaken for someone else and accused of something I didnt do. I was there seeing a friend of mine djing. I was standing at the bar downstairs for an hour with my girlfriend and her friend and then we walked to the dance floor. When we got out there someone from Spirit asked to speak with me in the lobby. And then another worker sternly told me to go now. I was told that I was giving another customer unwanted attention despite being with my girlfriend and her friend all night. While this was going on, some metal wannabe tough guy was standing and staring at me. He didnt work there. He kept giving me this hand sign right in my face as he walked up to me 🤘. The people at Spirit wouldnt explain anything else to me and by making the excuse of wanting to make everyone feel safe, they ironically made me feel very unsafe. I was almost certainly mistaken for someone else, just another token Middle Eastern guy I suppose. The three of us left right afterwards and I dont think Ill be going back anytime soon. Id give this place 0 stars if I could.EDIT: I keep getting Google updates about this review so I thought I should clarify what happened. About a week or 10 days after contacting Spirit by email to tell them about my experience, I heard back from the owner or a manager, who told me what actually happened. Apparently another person in the bar told one of the bartenders that they thought I was putting something in someones drink - seemingly the drinks that I was watching over. Obviously I did not. Instead of a Spirit employee confronting me about this, they lied to me and made me and my friends feel incredibly uncomfortable - for doing nothing. For a place that boasts about its inclusivity, I was made to feel incredibly unwelcome. I have not been back to Spirit since and I will not be returning.
I went to Spirits In Bed By Ten dance party. It is first come first served and cash at the door. Once in, there was a decent sized dance floor and a DJ playing hits from the 70s-90s. The bar was more than adequate. While nice, it did have a high school gym dance feel to it.Ended promptly at 9pm.
Went to Spirit to meet friends and hear Egomyth play. The decor is very old-school, but the whole place has a hipster-cool contemporary vibe to it too. It was an amalgam of old and new school cool. Pizza was delicious! Bands were great. Different venues on different floors adds interest and energy. Well done!
The pizza was delicious! I love the sauce they use. I wasnt sure about the vegan cheez sauce being too watery & making a mess but it was perfect. We also had the fingerling potatoes, which were super tasty 🍻
I come here once a month or so for Sunday brunch with a few folks from church. I really enjoy the food, the great music, the ambiance and design, the cocktails. The staff is awesome. I highly recommend stopping in for Sunday brunch sometime.
I like Spirit as a bar in itself, their bar staff is friendly and the pizza is always good. However, every time I’ve gone to a show here it’s never been a good time. It’s never Spirit itself that causes it, more so the event managers and even sometimes the crowd that’s attending aren’t the best or even all that friendly. I love their craft vendor fairs that they occasionally host though!
Had brunch on our Saturday morning. The food was wonderful, even if two dishes were a bit slow because they had to make fresh whipped cream. The server was even better and apologized and comped the tardy dishes. Will go back for sure next time Im in Pittsburgh.
Spirit has a great outdoor space! I was here with a few friends and we ordered a few pizzas and they were absolutely perfect. I’m not sure what it is, but the red sauce is so so good. I will definitely be back!
Dude. DUDE. Spirit is great.Ive been here a few times when Spirit was serving as a venue. They do a tremendous job of hosting events -- they make magic happen with very little, and it gives everything they do a very authentic feeling. Its the ultimate in atmosphere. This bar/venue actually has two floors. Besides the bar (ice-cold PBR for $3), they also have some really great pizza. Perfect bar food. Bartenders are always busy, but theyre also always helpful. Events can be super crowded sometimes, but thats not really Spirits fault, is it?
Two of us went for the pizza after my friend saw Spirit featured on Pgh Today Live. We ordered the special vegetarian pie that day and loved it! Delicious combination of ingredients and plenty to take home. Cocktails were excellent and no skimping on the alcohol. Enjoyed checking out the outdoor herb/vegetable gardens when we left. Well be back again for both dinner and entertainment!
No joke some of the best pizza anywhere! I had a specialty sausage & mushroom pizza with stewed lentils in lamb sauce. It was so good I ordered a 2nd one to go. Make sure to poke your head in the school bus they have converted into a lounge out back and see whats going on in there too.
Pizza = 10 stars! Detroit style, thicker crust. By far, one of my favorites. Ive only had late night za here, but would love to try the brunch.Bar/Music venue = eh, not particularly my scene. The underground space makes it a bit cramped, and the cover every weeknight gets old- you have to pay the cover even if you want to get in to order pizza!Go for the pizza, 100%
The pizza (crust is perfection) and stuffed olives are delicious, but the lavender lemonade is out of this world! Its by far the best Ive ever had at any restaurant anywhere. (Plus its served in a jar - super charming!)Im giving this place 3 stars because I was very disappointed to see so many maskless faces. COVID is a serious threat and we all have a responsibility to take proper precautions. If you havent been here, I highly suggest checking it out!
I always really enjoy coming here because there is always something new coming through. I recently took one of my friends here who is from NYC to a jazz night here on a Tuesday and it was really awesome. The musicians were awesome and they created an amazing experience. I love that on a Tuesday night with not much else going on in the city, I can come here and have a great time. Spirit Lounge is primo!!
Reserved a few tables and brought cupcakes for my husbands birthday. Ordered a bunch of pizzas for guests which were incredible. Everyone at spirit was really easy to work with, the dj was fantastic, and the drinks were delicious! Perfect for a small get together!
Love this place! Ive seen several shows here and have always enjoyed it. Prices for drinks and food could be better, but are fair for the environment. If you smoke, theres s great patio out back to do so.
A charming dive with a good selection of beer and specialty drinks. The service is fast and friendly even when its busy and theres vegan pizza. The music is a great selection of local and popular visiting acts.
Took my son and his friend to brunch. About a third of the items on the buffet were never refilled the entire time we were there(which was awhile). The price was $16, so it would have been nice to have the full selection. What was there was...ok. The service by our server was very good though.
Had my first date with my beautiful lovely wonderful girlfriend who is certainly not dictating this review right now hehehe. But its a nice place, good acoustics, you can have a view of the stage from pretty much anywhere! Location is good too. Parking can be a bit of a struggle but otherwise its really nice!
Great pizza, and they always get good acts. Both the upstairs and downstairs are cool venues. Be on the lookout for happy hour with pizza and drinks!
Phenomenal pizza! Cool band ( Century III ). Open atmosphere... people of all ages & of many different backgrounds/lifestyles... everyone seemed to be smiling & having a good time, self included. Next time thru, Ill be going back.
Upstairs is a great small concert venue, has a bar and a small amount of seating in the back and even offered free water. The venue was very very loud though so make sure you bring earplugs. I have not been on the ground floor bar, so this review is just as a concert venue.
Its just one thing after another with this place.Doors were supposed to open at 6:30 and didnt open till 7:30 due to technical difficulties . Employee told us to wait in the lodge downstairs but they were out of most drinks and all food, and the bar tender was rude (we were not rude to her). The drinks they had left were very expensive. When doors finally opened, they told us to wait outside in line; it started pouring 2 minutes after and they wouldnt let us back into the lodge without a $15 cover charge (per person). Also, the bathrooms were dirty.
Rhyme was the reason I came out not Warren G. The place is big but its for start up locals trying to make something shake. The pizza was flamed on. Every review that said the pizza was good wasnt lying. Staff seemed friendly in a racist way. I just felt they was overly polite to the colored people while just being normal happy go lucky with others. I love the fact you attract everyone. Color age even the handicap we being drunk and having a good time.
My husband and I loved this place! There’s several different atmospheres. Upstairs there’s a small bar, tables and chairs, and a stage for concerts. Downstairs there’s a larger bar with a calm atmosphere and a pizza shop (which is delicious, by the way). Outside there’s more bistro lights, picnic tables, a fire pit, and a school bus. It’s one of those places that offers a little something for everyone’s tastes when they go out. We attended the Zelda/metal night where old-school video games were being played along the wall upstairs, with some Hyrule-themed cocktails, and metal bands including a band that played Zelda songs while a guy speed-ran the game in 45 minutes. We had a blast as did everyone else that night, we totally recommend this place.
Excellent venue for concerts. Ive been here for a show a while back and it was phenomenal. I was also here for the 2020 Fermentation Festival, which was also an excellent experience, however the venue itself was perhaps a bit too packed at times. Spirit now holds a place in my heart for the memories I made there.
Ive been here a few times, mostly for special events: my one friend Ian Brill has set up his light sculptures here a few times and most recently I went to the Ceremony reunion there. They have ample space and are very open to letting artists set up in it as they think best; the drinks are comparable in strength and price to what youd get elsewhere. The offering of pizza slices is probably a good idea so that, in the event that worse-comes-to-worst, you arent vomiting your own stomach lining...
For work we had a christmas party in the upstairs section and it was a really good size for an event or party over 150-200+ i would say. I really liked the bar area and ir had a nice stage where we had entertainment. Im not 21 so im not sure about the downstairs bar area. There wasnt a lot of parking either, but i would imagine you would take an uber or lyft. The food at our party was really good too, so they use a caterer there. I think we had a few different pizzas they make, and it was some of the best ive had.
Its a decent sized venue. Parking is not as much of a pain as other parts of Lawrenceville. You can park the whole way down 51st without much trouble. There is a gas station right around the corner too. The show was ok. But thats another review. I had a positive experience attending a show here.
We went here for New Years Eve. They actually obeyed the fire code so it was great inside, and the band they had from New Orleans was amazing! I am glad we didnt go anywhere else. The drinks were also great.
A large upstairs venue/party hall, a (usually) chill downstairs bar (also with a stage), and my favorite pizza in the city at Slice Island. Add in some really great events (Halloween, New Years, etc...), and a sweet patio, plus a school bus converted into another bar. Its also home to Angry Dans trivia, some of the most difficult trivia that Ive attended.
The food was good when we went for brunch. Parking is very difficult and you should avoid the lot with the hospital trucks. It was hard to get drink refills and the buffet for brunch was only infrequently restocked after the first twenty minutes of service.
I paid $10 for a ticket to see one of my favorite bands on a Thursday night, but the opener didnt even go on until 9:30. Me and my wife had work in the morning so I didnt even get to see the band we paid to see. A disappointing visit but it wasnt a main stage show so I hope to be back for a better experience.
Great bands usually here. Come for the music. Interesting crowd mixed ages and temperaments. The actually serve better than average bar food like grilled cheese sandwiches with brie and gouda. Looks like an old industrial building from the outside.
Spirit is an awesome venue. You can have totally different music/vibes in the different areas. Upstairs, downstairs, outside. Its all fun! And they have decent pizza if you start to feel the hunger.
We had our wedding reception at Spirit and it was PERFECT!Where to begin?Leigh, their coordinator is super knowledgeable, totally calm, and went out of her way to make our experience perfect: she sourced local beers for our open bar, helped with floor plans / layout, and even helped name our signature cocktails after our cats (which I admit is absurd). She bent over backwards, meeting with us 3 times in advance, asking all the right questions and making many helpful suggestions. She even coordinated set up of our flip cup table and cornhole boards during the reception to really make it a party! The entire Spirit staff is friendly, accommodating, and genuine. The space is very cool with Edison bulb lighting a large bar and multi purpose stage that we configured exactly how we wanted. Add up lighting for a touch of chic. We received many post party compliments about the staff and the unique space, plus some little touches that spirit had done on their own (nice toiletries in the bathroom, not run of the mill hand soap).A huge selling feature for us was the ability to use their staff space but bring our own caterer. Spirit’s food is great, but we had DiAnoia’s in mind from the start.Another selling feature is their flexibility to setup and tear down. We were allowed to self decorate with a LOT of leeway and the fee for Spirit staff tear down was beyond reasonable. The cherry on top: after a mixup with our leftover cookie table, the Spirit team baked us several dozen cookies to wish us well. They are above and beyond and you should ditch the barn wedding and get married here!Thank you Spirit, we couldn’t imagine our special day anywhere else
Very friendly, laid back place to catch a performance. Very impressed with the sound quality but the stage setup (too many chairs and tables) is not very conducive to allowing for good crowd energy in front of the stage.
I went to Spirit to see Spafford and the Mike Dillon Band on a Friday night. The pizza they serve in the back kitchen is amazing! Really cool/unique idea. They also offered a coat check which is unique to venues/bars like this in Pittsburgh which was much appreciated on a really cold night. Cant wait to go back for more live music and pizza!
Pre-covid I loved spirit for their fun dance parties, and to my delight they have wonderful food and cocktails. I had had their pizza at the dance parties before but their dinner menu is next level. The brussel sprouts are one of my favorites. I cant wait to dance here again, until then Spirit will be hosting dance parties in my tummy.
Disappointed... Took an Uber down for a night of edm only to be rejected because we had no vaccination card. Ended up at Cavo and had a blast with no question of our vaccination status. We used to love it here, but we wont be back.
Spirit in Lawrenceville is a treat! Great food, great drinks, great ambiance. Surprising menu and drink choices with remarkably unique ingredients. Spirit is a great experience that you dont want to miss.
Awesome spot. on sunday they had someone in the out door seating area playing guitar. pizza was great and have some really unique pizzas.
A friends birthday in the downstairs bar area. Great beer selection. A few very decent wines for a dive bar. Had the Angeline pinot noir and the Wycliff sparkling. Their pizza is like really great flatbread with pizza toppings. Its delicious, but if youre a New York or Chicago purest it doesnt go either way. Some of us shared a white pizza with pork sausage, delicious. Lost a star because there are no buffers on the walls so the bands (fun, good music) are REALLY loud, even before 8pm. Very hard to even talk through them, expected later in the night, not that early. Would definitely go back, though!
Bickle Pizza was delicious (thanks to my bartender for the recommendation) and the vibe is cool and cozy, like a basement rumpus room from the 70’s.
Cool venue but missed most of the opening acts for Machine Girl standing out in the cold. If they’re gonna wand everyone they ought to hire more people to do it because it was one poor dude standing out in the cold wanding 2 full shows worth of people.
Delicious pizza, good music, happy hour from 5-8, and new beers to try on a regular basis, whats not to like? Their brunch is decent as well but it gets quite crowded.
I enjoy myself each time I visit. The pizza is awesome, the drinks are fab, and of course anything Justin Strong dreams up is just awesome. This is truly a place for all.
Awesome pizza and great atmosphere! They even have a photo booth inside and a bar where you can get drinks. They also have specials on Tuesdays (1/2 off cocktails and $1 pizza slices 🍕😍😛)
I really like spirit, they hold all kinds of great events and the Pizza is good too. I recently went here for Nerd Night and it was an interesting event, kind of like a Ted talk but with beer and more crowd interactions.
I love the upstairs venue at SpiritOne of the few venues with a real sound system that completely rocks in Pittsburgh.Ive seen a few shows there now and all have been great from singer-songwriters to Hip Hop two Rock shows upstairs and downstairs. Pittsburgh has been so overdue for more new great venues but actually care enough to put in real sound and put on a show. I hear from artists that the club treats people far better than a lot of other places in town and thats it also very positive congrats spirit.
Nice inside but overheard bartender and watched as they re-used cherrys from drinks which is super gross. Dec-30 between 12 and 2:30pm a man in a bright green or yellow hat was informed by another man that they were out of cherrys the man in hat replied to not dump out drinks with cherrys in them so they can reuse them in other peoples drinks and then proceeded to do so..
Awkward place for a show. Separate 21 and up drinking area barricade ... You have to show your band every time before going back to the 21 and up are and cant bring drinks out of that area. Just a strange set up . Acoustics arent terrible.
We went to an event called Drummer v DJ were a duo of drummer and DJ compete against other duos. It was a great even! Very unique and the pizza was great
Really great space, really great vibe. They have a good sized bar on the bottom floor with some really good pizza as well, and then they have a huge second floor room where they hold bigger shows and host art projects, sometimes at the same time!
Vaccine card needed to enter. Foolish rule following at best, tyrannical segregation at worst. Repeal that corrupt policy and I’ll change to 5 stars instantly. I never leave bad reviews but shame on anyone who is forcing people to show medical documents to have a beer and listen to music.
My friend and I cam to see S U R V I V E this past November 2016, and it was super cool. The venue, though small at the entrance, provided enough room once you went upstairs! My friend Romina loved it, and I hope I can take her here again one day :)
Spirit is a great place for Sunday brunch. They do a brunch buffet special that is super vegan friendly too! I would try everything you can at the buffet. The service is very good too.
One of the coolest dance spots in Pittsburgh. Number one recommendation for those trying to find somewhere to go out on the weekend. Its got a little bit of something for everyone, and I think my favorite part about it is that the crowd is really diverse.
Came here for carribean night was such a good time! Nice crowd cool atmosphere only issue was we were in line before 11 and still got charged 20 dollars at the door
Good beer selection if you only drink craft beers (which I really dont). Drinks are pricey. Great place to see live music. The pizza shop is really quite good.
We are typically easy going and understanding, but we just had a really bad experience here. We came at 5:45 and ordered right away to get our pizza as soon as possible. We waited for 45 minutes before asking, and were told they were “backed up” but it would be soon. Another 20 minutes we asked again and got defensive apologies and promises of it coming soon. Shortly after the server said our pizza would come out in 5-10 minutes. 14 minutes later it finally came. We waited almost an hour and a half for pizza that tasted like it got cold and was reheated.
One of the very few bars in Lawrenceville that plays hip hop. Cover is cheap and the drinks arent priced bad either. Ive been a few times and I like the reggaeton they play downstairs but its a little too much after a while so I usually migrate upstairs (which they dont like you doing)... its a different vibe you dont find in many Pittsburgh bar/clubs. Food is great and their is plenty room to socialize, dance, or just sit down and chill. Im sure ill be back again.
Great intimate venue! Sound was great, staff was real cool. Its rather unassuming from the outside, but definitely a diamond in the rough, especially with the lack of quality venues in Pittsburgh.
Missing bingo bango at the Lounge but plenty of amazing takeout nights from Spirit. Highly recommend if you want one of the best pizzas in the ‘burgh.
Dark and dirty, looks like a place you go to get murdered. Impossible to see from the street and nothing better once you enter. Food and drink was horrible. One positive, they hosted a volunteer fair recently and I appreciate that! Apparently, they also host some good shows, but I will likely never go back.
Nice Lounge, both venues inside the building offer a great experience. The spicy pizza was pretty delicious, definitely a recommend.
Great venue, tasty pizza, awesome happy hour specials. Only complaint is it does get hot during a dancing type event, especially in warmer months.
For such a large and loud place, Spirit has a surprisingly chill atmosphere. Even with my anxiety the I felt very calm and accepted here! Great place for a night out whether you know people or not!
Cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced. Really cool space! Loved the free juke box in the old school bus and the delicious pizza.
Went for Sunday brunch with the whole family. Food was amazing with several vegetarian options. You must try the fresh squeezed grapefruit mimosa, so good.
Requires a vax card to enter but didnt say so online. Wasted the partys time getting everyone here as some didnt bring their vax card with them. Stupid rule when having a vaccine doesnt prevent you from having or spreading covid.
Place was nice but open flames in a situation where a lot of people are under the influence could result in disaster. Very uncontrolled environment. If youre concerned about your safety I would avoid this place. Let me follow up by saying, if Im the voice of reason in this situation, its already to late.
I am sad that I have gone 34 years of my life before trying their pizza. I am also sad that since eating this mana from the gods no other pizza will be good enough .Truly this is now the standard that all other baked dough, sauce, and cheese will be compared and nothing even has a chance . There is another Pittsburgh pizza place that begins with an F I think, but since having this I cant even remember their name. I was full 3 pieces ago, but I could not stop eating it. Their is a slight spice to this food of the Gods, but it isnt a sweat while looking for the nearest drink spice . The spice is to awaken ones taste buds to the glory that is this pizza . The dough is crunchy with a chew that compliments one another, as Yin and yang do, the flavor is out of control as well . Building upon that gold standard of dough is a sauce that blows all others out of the water . Cheese that could be melted on a pine cone and I would be enthusiastic to eat it . Now these components alone are legendary, but combined are what alchemists of old sought when trying to create the philosophers stone . I recommend Spirit to anyone who thinks life is not worth living because eating their pizza will give you a purpose again. The bars are also batting a thousand. Spirit is an all around home run and I feel like I could die happy tomorrow once eating their pizza.
Spirit is always incredible! Pre-gaming the show downstairs with incredible pizza and a fantastic beer selection is perfect prior to seeing a show upstairs in the vault. Its even better when seeing a show that pairs really well with Ian Brills vault!
After attending a private event I found Spirit to be a well run venue. The performance space was comfortable and well designed.Staff was attentive and everything was delicious!
Saw Perturbator and Arcade High, acoustics were great, the staff friendly, and free water was provided which imo is rather important for modern EDM. Plenty of good places to hang out before the show also
Arguably, the best pizza in Pittsburgh. Oh, and they have two floors of club, restaurant seating (indoor/outdoor) and oh yeah an abandoned school bus that you can chill in. This spot is cool
Nice little dive with good food. The pizzas are a little pricey and pretentious, but are genuinely tasty. The patio out back is also great for a nice day.
I went hear to see John Maus live in concert. John Maus! John Maus is great, check him out. All of the workers here were very nice, attentive, and dutiful. Cool environs with unusual but awesome mens toilets. I would drive there from Ohio again for an artist that I wanted to see.
Some of the best pizza in town. Always a good draft list. Fun music to check out.
Loved it. Unassuming spot with a great relaxed vibe, nice craft selection and delicious (oddly) Italian food that in any other city would be triple the price for the quality.I wish I lived here just so I could come back again
