My favorite neighborhood bar ... Whether its the peak times or in between times, I enjoy the atmosphere. The staff is friendly .. I always find something I want on the menu (and off the menu). The prices are reasonable ... the place is nice

The drag brunch is so much fun! The lavender lemon drop is a must-try. The avocado toast was alright, but we were there for the show and not the food.

Spent most of the weekend here for pride festivities. Everything was amazing. But extra recognition for Jonas the bartender. He’s amazing and made my weekend. 10/10 would recommend this place. Amazing music, the back deck is fantastic and the drinks and food are to die for. Can’t wait to come back

I was having a great time but when I left the bouncer was so unbelievably rude to me and it honestly ruined my night. I was leaving and had almost forgotten to put my water in the trash before leaving so I quickly turned around to throw it out and came back to exit as I exited he said to the man who was next in line to leave “hold on while she figures out what she’s doing with her life”. I’m a sensitive person and this made me feel horrible about myself. I don’t know why he felt the need to throw a insult at me but I was nothing but polite and I was sober due to me being my friends designated driver on her 21st I hope he doesn’t insult anyone else because you never know what is happening in someone’s life and what they’re going through, I’ve been having a hard time lately and he made it all much worse. I don’t think I should have to go out and worry about the bouncer insulting me as I’m politely exiting the building, I had a great time and other staff was nothing short of amazing. I don’t think I will go back or recommend others going to this bar due to this encounter, I had been there before for drag brunch before and had a great time I guess the new staff hired aren’t as good.

This used to be a good reliable spot for an early drink in a queer bar. We visited tonight and I don’t honestly know what happened. As the night went on, it was increasingly straight. We left before midnight and it was pushing 60% straight people. Not like straight people with gay friends, but packs of straight girls and groups of straight guys cruising each other. So weird. Can’t we have anything nice? Bye bye 5801, it was nice while it lasted.

I went here tonight for my friends birthday tonight. The espresso martinis were amazing! When ordering a second one, the older bartender sighed and rolled his eyes when i asked for my tab to be closed (which he didn’t ask if i wanted it opened or not). When i told him i didnt have a tab open, he said “well u did, i just opened it.” I still tipped, but as a server/bartender, if i reacted that way to a customer, I would not have expected a tip. Other than that encounter, we had a good time.

The straightest gay bar in Pittsburgh.Will not allow you in if you are coming from work and have a bag and are incredibly bratty about it. Bad, overpriced cocktails.

This is one of my favorite bars in Pittsburgh with great vibes and has been the place my friends and I have gone frequently the past few months. The reason for this review is that my friend (who has also been coming here for months) was denied at the door last night, prompting our group of 10 to leave after some of us had already been in there for some time. She has a Florida state license (which with a quick Google search, it is known that they notoriously do not scan) which she is also aware of, so she presented her Green Card as a second form of ID. The door refused the Green Card and said they wouldn’t let her in. The combination of the valid state ID and Green Card should not have been grounds for denying entry. I understand the need to tighten up the security against fake IDs, but this comes at the expense of loyal customers who are 21+ and simply have different circumstances.This is extremely disappointing given this was one of our favorite spots in the city, and she has never been denied from any bar in Pittsburgh for this reason.

It was my boyfriends first time there on a weekday where we were coming back from the Phipps. The food deals were good the appetizers we had were okay good bar food. Drinks were really good and not too strong. We got there around the time they were getting ready for poker night. Its really cool they have the theme nights throughout the week. The back patio area was very Christmas ⛄ and really nice. We would definitely be going back.

We enjoyed a trip to 5801. Carley was our bartender and was amazing. She was so attentive and was on top of all of our needs without being overbearing.

We used to have all our work holiday luncheons, video extravagances at 5801 till last year when someone in management decided some dry hotel rent a hall would be so much better, it is not.We loved the food, the bartenders, the forever preserved corny and less corny Christmas videos, photos on the decorated outside deck while freezing. We loved all of it. We miss it.If you work place wants to have an event here, please do.

First off, love the vibes and the people. But Ive had my suspicions about an additional fee on the bills for some while, and this weekend I confirmed via an itemized receipt that they charge a 2.5% mystery fee (I suspect credit card) that isnt publicized on signage, website, or any other online reviews. Even the itemized receipt lumps all taxes and fees into one line item, without specifying what the additional 2.5% is for.

A fun time and always feels safe. My only complaint is the DJ. It is the same guy most weekends who plays pre-made club mixes, not the type of music you would expect at the gay bar. He does not take requests or read the crowd at all. Gets crowded inside during winter when the patio is closed.

It can easily be made accessible, but it isn’t. At this point, lgbtqia clubs should be open to disabled members of the community.

Overall this bar is my favorite in Pittsburgh. Its a really good vibe on a weekend, super queer (more men than women) and very friendly/safe! The good is 10/10 and trivia is the best in the city!Downfall - drag brunch. Its free which is a huge plus, but if youre not sitting right in front of the performance area, you dont get to see any of the show. They say the queens come around, but sitting in the back bar, we only saw one or two come back. Not really the vibe :/ we were really excited about coming to brunch after being regulars here throughout the week. Only come for drag brunch if you can get a seat in the main area.Service is AMAZING and quick and attentive! Definitely check this bar out on a weekend or for trivia. Just be careful to get a good spotbay drag brunch.

This bar is safe friendly and very clean, you will have a good time. The bar staff to the owner a very nice establishment a crown for Pittsburgh and brilliant lighting. Puts other bars to shame for its way better. Highly recommended

Our first time attending and it was amazing. A VIBE!3 floors of fun (1 being an outdoor deck) with a bar in each area. Dance music all night long with plenty of seating for those who enjoy the sidelines. Will be returning.

Really great bar with fun layout. Plenty of vignettes and cool indoor/outdoor situation. Only thing holding it back is the music. It’s like the DJ presses play on the same exact playlist at 9pm every weekend night and then stands there pretending he’s actually doing something besides raising the volume and shouting a lyric every once in a while. And it’s just not the catalog one would hope for at a gay/queer bar. More like straight club music.

A great alternative bar. Yes, it is a gay bar, but if youre straight and respectful that youre in the minority, then youll be treated as respectfully and with as much friendliness as you give to others. Warm and friendly atmosphere.

This was a fun place to spend an evening. The food and drinks were delicious, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was intimate and festive. My trans partner and I felt comfortable there and would definitely return.

This is an excellent gay bar, and it is also straight friendly. I visited this location with friends often when I lived nearby and never had a bad experience. Bar tenders are friendly and prompt, and the food is also pretty good. There is an outdoor deck, 2 dart boards, 2 bars, a small dance floor, and plenty of room to hang out and have a good time.

The staff and service here are AMAZING.Ive never had a bad time here. When I lived in Shadyside I was here with my friends every week for happy hour and sometimes even entertainment. The food is also awesome, and during Happy Hours it is buy one get one appetizers.Also- the back balcony is gorgeous, spacious, and a super fun spot to hang out... seriously this place is great.

We were out of town visiting and stopped for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was awesome, food was excellent and the show was a good time. Ralph the owner greeted us at the door and made sure we had a great time. The drag queens I LOVE!!!

The BEST fresh hand-cut fries. I used to come here exclusively for cocktails and kinship, but it’s low-key our go-to dinner spot for the past few months. This food menu is not to be slept on. The Philly cheesesteak hits the spot every time, but the culinarians refresh their menu offerings weekly, so there’s always something new and tasty to try. Everything on the menu is a great value for what you pay. For example: THE BEST bottomless fries for only $6. For the ideal experience, I recommend imbibing and dining on the large outdoor patio and bar.

The term straight friendly is used a lot here but it is very, very true. Very upbeat, welcoming gay bar that is also insanely gorgeous with lots of open space on the top floor to hang out with a group of friends. I really love this place.

Friends and I were visiting from out of town for the weekend. The whole city was very clean and friendly especially 5801! This place was so good we visited twice on our stay! They treated us like their own especially Larry! He’s a riot! Price was right and we had a great time playing trivia and going to drag brunch. Will definitely be back!

If you are looking to switch up bars for a night, you should make your way down to 5801. This club is 2 floors with an outside patio. The crowd is usually a good time, and the space is decent. It is lacking a dance floor and parking - but nonetheless, a great time! Side note, the bar is a 90% male-dominated crowd.

Great food for price but the drinks are more pricey than most other local bars. Usually good mix of people on weekends, older younger pretentious hipster femme leather trans and straight all frequent this bar. No strippers waving junk in your face. Hope that doesnt ever change....

Fun place to hang out with friends. Good drinks and great food menu! Weekly events for Trivia, Dart, Poker, etc. They have a nice outside deck in the back, perfect for warmer weather. Also festive decorations during Halloween and Christmas season.

It was busy but, boring. You HAVE to order food. The bar tenders walk in the back a lot and it takes forever to get their attention. I went for my birthday. Big mistake! We left after 2 hours. And i wanted to leave sooner. And their Alabama Slammers, suck

This bar labels itself as a Gay bar and it really does not have Gay patrons.I visited the 5801 Video Lounge on Saturday, August 31, 2013 during Labor Day weekend.  80% of the bars patrons were straight - heterosexual couples.  There were a few Gay people scattered throughout the bar but in no way would I call this place a Gay bar.The place looks good but not all that special.  It kind of reminded me of Applebees for some reason. It could use a good cleaning. The carpets for example were dirty and even sticky in some places.At the upstairs bar, for 20 minutes, I tried unsuccessfully to get a drink from any of the bartenders there. They were ignoring me!We dont smoke and we were trying to avoid the downstairs bar because they allow smoking. However, since we were being ignored by the bartenders upstairs who were too busy serving the straight couples, we reluctantly decided to go downstairs and try to get drinks.At the smoky downstairs bar, the bartender did approach me but when I asked for Black Velvet, they didnt have it. So then, I asked for Canadian Club and again they did not have it.  I really felt as though this bar did not want us there and werent going to serve us.  It was as if they were saying, No, we dont have it, you cant have anything here. We dont want you here. Black Velvet and Canadian Club are both fine Canadian whiskeys that are staples at almost all bars and I found it unbelievable that they did not have either of them.I also observed the bartenders using those automatic shot measuring devices.  I absolutely hate that.  How do I know I am even getting a full shot of booze with those things.  If they need to measure, I want to see them use a shot glass so I can see what I am paying for.  Anyway, after seeing the automatic shot measuring devices, I was pretty sure the drinks were very weak.There is a patio on the backside. It is not a beautiful patio as described by some of the reviewers.  When I was there, it was jam-packed with smokers and there was standing-room only.The patrons were not friendly in 5801 either. AND, worst of all, because of inaccurate reviews on Yelp, Urban Spoon and Gay Cities, I ended up visiting this bar and wasting my valuable vacation time on a Saturday night when I could have gone somewhere else.There is no dance floor. Other reviewers mention that there is a dance floor. I could not find one anywhere. Perhaps, it used to be located where the dart boards are now.I was ignored by the upstairs bartenders.  The drinks they do make are weak.  I was unable to get my drink in this bar.  The bartenders and the patrons were unfriendly. It is not a Gay bar.  I do not recommend it.Most of the positive reviews written for 5801 Video Lounge are written by straight heterosexual women. I can understand that. I believe that if you are a straight heterosexual man or woman that you would probably like this place. However, if you are Gay and are looking for a Gay crowd to hang out with, you wont find it at 5801.

The outdoor area is gorgeous, and it seems like the place had some major updates since the other reviews. And yes, there are gay men aplenty. Ill put it this way: There was almost no line for the womens restroom. My only complaint is the limited liquor selection.

Great bar. It is a gay bar but youll find a variety of people here gay and straight. They have an awesome outdoor deck with heaters. 3 separate bars and a designated smoking area. Probably the classiest gay bar in the city.

Fun spot to grab a drink, friendly people, and Sunday funday energy. It was the stonewall post game hang, so lots of people on a Sunday afternoon.

I had a good night out with some friends, and we stopped here for a few drinks. Food was good, we got a few appetizers and enjoyed the drinks we got. Personally, our service was a little slow but friendly, that can be understandable and Im sure varies. I will say for an LGBTQIA place, it was pretty heavy on the G and lacking on the L. I felt WAY out of place...

I’ve never felt more comfortable and cared for at a bar. Chris and Alex always take the extra step to make sure you are happy and hydrated. The drinks and food are phenomenal. Love it here.

Come to this bar often with friends. Always a good time, good atmosphere. Depending if busy the service isnt the greatest but the food is delicious. I wasnt impressed with the fried zucchini but everything else I tried there was really good!

To be blunt, Its pretentious as hell. I know Pittsburgh wants to strive to be something bigger and better but by having a club with a good interior isnt going to be the be-all-and-end-all. For clubs to be successful in big cities like Philly and New York theres got to be an attitude or rapport with the patron and staff. trippy lighting and subpar drinks is not going to do it all. Well I see its the same faces looking for the same hope that never seems to come because of the lackluster rapport. My advice accept the fact that youre in a small town make it more for that leave the big cities alone. Its only Pittsburgh.

WE FIRST WENT INTO THIS CHINESE RESTURANT THATS LOCATED BETWEEN CENTER AND NEGLEY AVENUES AND IT HASNT BEEN OPENED THAT LONG. I BEEN ANXIOUS TO VISIT IT, AS YOU ENTERED THE RESTURANT ON CENTER AVENUE SIDE YOU WHERE IMMEDIATELY GREETED BY FLYS. YES THERE WHERE FLYS FLYING AROUND IN DECEMBER IN THE RESTAURANT, AND ITS WINTER TIME. WE TRIED TO BE SEATED BUT EVERY TABLE THAT WE TRIED TO SET AT WHERE SOILED WITH FOOD STAINS. I HAD THEM CHANGE OUR TABLE AND THEY COMPLIED AND THEN I ASKED FOR HOT TEA AND I WAS SERVED WATERED TEA THAT HAD NO FLAVOR! THAT RESTAURANT SETS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF CENTER AVENUE.
