I LOVE Common Grounds! The rules make me feel safe, the soak pricing is affordable, the staff are generally polite and amicable, the facilities are always clean and the atmosphere is soothing. I decided to give it a go to address my own obstacles with body image and feeling safe in my skin. It really helps! I was the most relaxed, after just one hour, I have felt in too long. I try to go regularly as a part of my healing journey and self-care. I highly recommend giving yourself the gift of a soak and see for yourself! Much love, thank you Common Grounds!
Truly a great place to relax and unwind. The facility isnt large but packs a punch and fits in a lot of amenities in its smaller size. The soaking pool, sauna and overall outdoor space are a whole different world from the inner-city setting just outside its walls. Everything is always clean and well-maintained. The staff are always very friendly and inviting. While its a clothing optional spa I have never experienced or seen any uncomfortable situations develop.
I like this place. Its a hott tub and a sauna. Your soaking time includes the time it takes to undress and shower and redress after the visit and in the past they have been very strict on that. they seemed to have loosened up a bit lately though but i would recommend getting the full hour.
No better place to have a soak. The tubs are serene and peaceful. The facilities are clean and calming. Staff are professional, pleasant, and kind.Small, but nice selection of beverages to enjoy during.Just a wonderful place to relax.
I love common ground, but I dislike having to leave my bike on the street when Im there. Although they have a large parking lot, there isnt a single bike rack on their property. Giving up single car parking space could make room for a lot of bike parking. I would go more often if I didnt have to worry about my bike being out on the street while I was there.
My massage was with Nicholas Maxwell. It was one of the best massages ever! He listened to me, checked in often, & his technique was exactly what I needed. I left feeling very relaxed & simultaneously recharged and full of energy. The spa portion was ok. The facility is very clean and they have a lot of rules in order to maintain comfort & safety for everyone. I found it strange that three different women crowded me in the hot tub and in the shower. There was plenty of room and I don’t understand why they had to be right next to me. Even so I will go back. It was a good experience considering everything.
The outdoor soaking pool is lovely, complete with a soothing water feature and interesting wall art. The indoor & outdoor showers are very clean. The seating area near the soaking pool has both shaded and sunny areas to sit.
I scheduled a massage & it exceededmy expectations! I was able to walk without my back brace with minimal pain left & better posture after the massage. I have a busy schedule and their weekend availability definitely made it convenient. Love ❤ this place and their staff!
Peaceful and pleasant. Clothing optional. A great place for a soak! We have been back twice since our first visit and Im sure well be back again!
Yesterday, I had a message with Carlos that I would rate about a 6 out of 10. While it was decent enough, I noticed that he didnt give much extra attention to two specific problem areas I had highlighted. Overall, I felt that the message lacked the precision and skills I was hoping for. Carlos is a nice guy and has some good foundational skills, but with more time and dedication to honing his craft, he could certainly improve.
I’ve been a member of this co-op for at least 15 years. I always love coming here, I enjoy the intimacy of the environment, and that it is peaceful and serene. I also love the location. Thanks you guys for all the healing over the years. Additionally, I have seen Massage Therapists here over the years, but CJ is my fav 💖
Love this place! Started going here for their soaking pool. My boyfriend recommended getting a massage with Nick, and I’m so glad I did! Nick is awesome and the most intuitive massage therapist I’ve ever worked with. I highly recommend making an appointment to anyone who has regular/severe back pain or just looking for a relaxing massage. Thank you, Nick!
Good place but lacking a few key things that other day spas have.1) no robes, slippers, or towels provided with hot tub/sauna usage2) no cold plunge3) no monthly membership for unlimited use.4) water/sauna is definitely not as hot as it should be or at other places in the city. When almost all day spas in the area have a monthly unlimited pass it’s hard to justify an expensive hourly rate here, unfortunately. Especially when no amenities are provided. I really want to love this place but unless they have a membership option and up their competitiveness in regards to amenities I don’t think I’ll be back often unfortunately.
Great place to soak. Feel like they really foster a safe non-judgmental environment however not being able to use sunglasses in the summer seems like a bit of an overstep, but that’s just me. Have to limit my time or go on dark cloudy days (which yeah, we have a lot of those in the PNW)
If you want an absolutely amazing massage I recommend Artemis! The first time I was here I just did an hour soak, and the second time I brought a guest and we both did an hour long soak and hour long massage. Overall, the atmosphere is amazing and justifies the price. You will always pay more for a massage when you get a full experience and it was well worth it! The staff demonstrated that safety and comfort was top priority here.
Modest, casual but beautiful urban oasis. Outdoor tub and sauna, clean shower and locker room facility. Great midday reset or spa day
Common Ground is a wonderful spot. Their staff is courteous and protects the elements of this experience that I hold dear. Safety, comfort, and respect. There are busy days when its hard to find a spot in the tub, but I dont feel crowded out when I wade in to a busy pool.Outside of the soaking pool, the sauna is clean and smells good which are key requirements for a decent sauna experience in my opinion.Treat yourself to a massage, too! I had a mind-blowing time and had muscles relax where I didnt even know they were tight.Highly recommend going for an hour spot at the soaking pool. Half hours are too quick to really soak in the vibes, and anything over an hour feels like a little much.
The place itself is nice, but I got a massage, and it was probably the worst treatment Ive ever had. However, the soaking pool is super relaxing, and so is the sauna. I would go for some soaking time since the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing.
Been going to this place for years. I love the calm atmosphere they’ve created. The staff work hard to keep the area safe.
Great welcoming, inclusive, clean and relaxing place. Love the silent hour.Highly recommend. Tips: bring your own towels, bring a fresh set of clothes to change into afterwards, a good book and water bottle.
I went here with my girlfriend. We are both training for a marathon, so we are constantly battling soreness. We went here and really enjoyed it. The facilities were clean. The sauna was great. I just wish the soaking pool was hotter. I would definitely recommend it. It is clothing optional, so there is nudity. Definitely a welcoming, comfortable, safe place. Would have gave 5 stars if the soaking pool was hotter
This place is always great! The staff is super friendly and professional, the facilities are kept clean, prices are fair, & Ive never had an issue with another guest. Lovely place to come relax and enjoy some self care and quiet time :)I see Dr. Mottman for chiropractic adjustments and he is fantastic. Hes knowledgeable, professional, and handles an anxious patient (like me) with extra care and communication!
Got some body work from Monica and a nice soak in the healing pool. Prices for what you get are amazingly reasonable. Facilities are clean and the staff fosters an environment of acceptance and respect
I used to love coming here, but I will be no longer. This establishment doesn’t allow electronics, after disclosing my kindle is just a paper white that does not have a camera and is a glorified etchasketch the employee confiscated my kindle paperwhite and brought it to the front desk. It’s just a book. I’m really sad because I come here weekly. With my kindle. I was happy to patron this co-op. I would usually tell my clients about this once wonderful place and I will most likely no longer. I felt like I was 10 years old again getting something taken away.
I recently took a hard fall & my entire left side was sore… knee, leg, hip, shoulder. I was able to get in and see Jonathan Berg (I had seen him before for a Massage treatment but this time was out of necessity) he was very attentive to the specific areas of tension & pain. After a 90 min session I was able to stand upright & walk without pain! I was amazed & cannot say enough great things about Mr Berg.
Ive had 3 massage sessions now with Nicolas and I cannot say enough good things. Hes extremely tuned in to the body and always works on the areas you want worked on the whole time - rather than just a few extra minutes of attention during a full body scan. Thank you, Nicolas!
Super friendly and helpful staff. I’ve gone three times during a very stressful past month and have been lucky to book last minute massage sandwiches (soak/massage/soak) easily each time. I trust their practitioners to be skillful and would absolutely return to each one I have seen, but appreciate feeling confident that I can book with who is available.
First timer 🔔 I really enjoyed this spot & yes I will be back very soon. Great vibes with cool and friendly staff members.
Erik is one of the best body workers Ive ever had the pleasure of working with. His communication is on point, his pressure is adjustable and most importantly for me he is able to give a gentle but thorough deep tissue massage. I thoroughly recommend Erik to anyone who likes firm pressure!
I usually have great experiences here. The atmosphere is nice and calming. I enjoy my visits each time. Last time, strangers kept talking to my girlfriend trying to interact, and its completely against the rules so I was a bit disappointed. Ill definitely go again, and if it continues Ill be sure to let the staff know.
Had a wonderful 90 minute massage with Brittany today.I saw that Willamette Week selected them last year for best massage in PDX so I figured Id try them out. And Im so glad I did!Brittany is a delightful person. Her technique is different than Ive had before but it was wonderful. I left completely rejuvenated. And I loved the music. It was an eclectic blend of relaxing music from different genres. It really created a relaxing atmosphere.I cant wait to go back!
It was a bit small but warm and cozy experience. All gender in one place, clothing optional. Some people are just naked, some wear swimsuit. There’s a strict rule that used of dry sauna must shut up, and I love that! Jacuzzi place get a lil bit noisy to some sensitive ears sometimes, but it’s good overall.
Common ground is a wonderful oasis of peace and relaxation. The rules around respect and privacy make the space feel really safe. I highly recommend booking a sandwich! 30mn soak/ massage/ 30mn soak. Their team of onsite masseurs is amazing!
I have been coming to Common Ground for years; it’s a really great place to go solo, with a friend, or with a small group. The staff are very sweet and have very high standards for behavior. I’ve never felt uncomfortable here or had any issues. The massages are great too, and the massage/soak combos are the best!
Amazing experience here! I would give 10 stars if I could.. I reserved a massage for my daughter to ease years worth of stress that had built up in her system. It was our first visit here and we had no idea what to expect. I can’t seem to find the words to describe the exceptional service my daughter received. I’ve been all over the west coast and parts of the east coast and thought I’d seen it all as far as a skilled masseuse, but Dalia takes it! Hands down, the most gifted, gentle, professional, consummate masseuse I’ve have ever met. My daughter told me after her treatment, that she hadn’t felt that good in YEARS. I almost cried (mom’s). We will be forever grateful for this most blessed healing my daughter has received from Dalia 🙏
I LOVE Common Ground, especially their soaking pool. Its where I go when Mama needs some time to herself. Know what I mean? Whew!Everyone has always been so kind and respectful, including the other patrons.A Friday night is going to be a bit more chattery, energetic vibes. I love going midweek, because its so peaceful and quiet, most of the time. The temperature is always just perfect. (Warmer than Kennedy School.)If you are soaking, note its clothing optional.
Have lived in the Alberta area for 2 years and have been wanting to come by, so we did yesterday! A beautiful walk to this oasis!Seriously LOVED this place! It was a spiritual experience for me! I came with the most minimal intentions and came out feeling relieved of the world! The staff was very helpful over the phone to make a same day appointment. When we arrived 15 mins late, they didnt have a problem and pushed our soaking pool start time back. They provide towels with a $2 fee and have lockers for your belongings, no lock necessary.Clothing is optional and the space is an overall meditative, safe place. Showering before and after the soaking pool is required. The pool itself is at just the right temp. They also have a cold shower to cool down at when youve been in for a little while. Definitely cooling off and getting back in feels great! Glad they have it!Overall I loved all the plants, the water, and the misters because it was a warmer day I Portland. It is a small place that offers a beautiful place for time for self reflection and letting the weeks troubles melt away! Will be coming back!
My first time soaking, so I was a bit nervous. The staff was great. The space is clean and cozy. The soaking area is not large, which is perfectly fine until you get two loudmouths who insist on talking about their managerial experiences nonstop. There wasnt a space to retreat to and Im nonconfrontational. The deeper side filled up quickly, so I happened to end up on the shallow end. It made the experience a bit uncomfortable while the talk-bros were present. When they left for the sauna after 20ish minutes, it was lovely. Cool rain from above and hot water in the pool was refreshing. Will likely go again.
I have been waiting to leave a review until after giving it a few times of attendance. My thoughts?I love it here. Truly, love it.I’ve got to the bath house side a handful of times. Every time? Wonderful experience.I’ve had zero issues. If anything, the staff ensures everything goes above and beyond. Especially these last couple of times. I live out of town. Like, nearly 2 hrs lol. So, I scheduled a soak online for 2 hrs. Welp, between life and traffic I kept getting delayed. The front desk staff were so flexible (thankfully it was slow) and accommodated my traveling conflicts. Wonderful! So, that same evening I decided to get a massage and wanted a soak. They were able to get me in next day, and when I got stuck in traffic (again! Even with an hour early leave time) 😪 they were totally fine by my showing up 5/10 minutes late. I noticed, that my massage time wasn’t cut short. And they were able to switch my 30 minute pre soak, onto my 1 and half hour after soak. Amazing! Super understanding. Adore the ppl here! Now, onto the massage part. I was given Kris. Kris was absolutely phenomenal. I can’t express enough how relaxed and comfortable I was. I have NEVER had a massage that good before lol. Normally, with past experiences, I am leaving feeling kinda disappointed in way or another. This experience!? Totally opposite! I can’t sleep around strangers. If I do, I have to be like trapped away in my own bubble. No matter how relaxed I am. With Kris? I was actually hitting points of unconsciousness. It was absolutely 1 of a kind. Considering the last few weeks I’ve had?? I needed it!! Sooo bad! I was able to lay there after for a moment, come back into my body, and then gently work my way into the bath house. I read my book soak in the hot water for 2 hrs. It’s absolutely magic, I love it here. I hope everyone comes and experiences it for themselves. ESPECIALLY massages from Kris first lmao. One of a kind place and I easily drive 2 hrs back/forth easy because of how wonderfully relaxing it is. Sounds dramatic but I’ve been reconsidering closer relocation because of this magical place I’ve found myself frequenting. If you’re curious? Try it! I’m a single female, frequent constantly alone, have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Everyone, even the other patrons are fantastic! The whole place is just the right vibe!
Read the great reviews and was excited to come here for the sauna and hot tub but was really disappointed with both. Sauna was barely warm, so we went to the hot tub but it was also disappointingly underwhelming. Staff was fairly rude in response to my request for a refund. The ambiance was serene and peaceful though — beautiful place.
Quiet, relaxing mellow, small without being cramped, just incredibly chill overall. Highlight for me was soaking in the hot tub and watching the full moon and satellites go by. Everyone was respectful and polite throughout my visit. Absolutely worth the visit!
Went here for the first time, and we had such a great experience. The bathhouse itself is not too big - only one small courtyard pool and one dry sauna, but the ambient was nice and cozy. Afterward, we got massages, and my therapist Christiana was AMAZING! Well be coming back again!
Came here with my husband for a soak and a massage. Really loved the boundaries set by the staff at check in. Felt super comfortable knowing that the other guests were to follow the same boundaries (i.e no soliciting conversations with strangers, be mindful of where your eyes were resting ext.). Super clean space and very relaxing soaking pool. Massages were lovely as well. Will definitely be going back.
This is the first place on my Portland soaking exploration. I spent about an hour and 40 minutes here. Common Ground Wellness is clean with an all gender locker and shower area. The place is quite small which wouldn’t have bothered me expect for the people who were quite loud which is why my rating is 3 stars. When I arrived there was a group of people who were pretty loud in the soaking room so I opted for the sauna but you can hear people in the pool and shower while sitting in the sauna. After sometime I made my way to the pool and it had quieted down. This was a VERY relaxing experience but lasted only about 45 minutes when another loud group came into the pool, talking about very personal information at a high volume. There were other people talking at low volumes throughout which didn’t bother me. I again popped over to the sauna when I entered there was a couple massaging each other but stopped when I came in and didn’t continue while I was in sauna. The rules of Common Ground is what made me feel comfortable enough to try and I’m glad that I did! You can tell the relaxation and comfort they strive for. I paid for 2 hours and left about 20 minutes early after not quite being able to find that same bliss I had for those magical 45 minutes. The staff were friendly and helpful. Perhaps my expectations of relaxation are too high for a communal space. Acknowledging that this was the first soak spot I’ve checked out, I will come back and rate higher if I run into the same things elsewhere. I will likely visit again during a weekday in the morning, my visit was scheduled for 3-5 on a Friday.
I came to check it out because my friend told me it was good. It was underwhelmed experience. They made me wear a mask in the bathroom, but can you sit without a mask in the hot tub? No logic to me. No shampoo, and lots of hair in the shower room that was being hosed down while we were in the shower, Hottub was very small, and the water was warm. I didnt even get hot same as the sauna. Quiet hours after nine made me want to leave.
My favorite release-and-reset healing space. I like to move between the shared hot pool and the no-talk sauna. The pool is in a lovely outdoor setting with a range of jets to soothe aching muscles. The sauna is spacious, hot, and quiet. The cold outdoor shower is invigorating. And the vibe is chill, body positive, clothing-optional, and welcoming.
I’ve been experiencing significant hip pain - the massage I had made me feel 100% better but the effects only lasted about 24 hours. The outdoor hot tub is nice but small. I wasn’t a fan of the mixed gender locker room - it was a VERY tight space for that.
Have been going for years. Love it and finally became a member!
Great vibe walking in, but…My family and I called and made a reservation for 3 people on a rainy day.We showed up very excited but the person at the front desk said, “Sorry, I put you in for tomorrow instead of today. And we’re at full capacity.”😳Look, mistakes happen and to give her credit, she said sorry professionally. But the place didn’t offer us a solution. Just a sorry. We’re all quite disappointed especially on a cold rainy day. 😞
Relaxing atmosphere. Easy to book an appointment and lots of availability. The hot tub and sauna are kept very warm, and the facility is well lit and suited for a healing and positive environment. A fun clothing optional experience!
“It’s a pandemic, quick, let’s increase our max from 12 to 14 people!” - Common Ground Wellness Center circa October 2022The soaking pool comfortably fits 10. You’re like Delta, selling more tickets than you have seats. 12 is too many, 14 is way too f#%¥~
This place has been a place of healing and refuge for me over the past few months. The staff are always superb. Facilities are clean! Every massage Ive had has been fantastic, and even more so because of the day-of availability. The decor and layout of the space is simply elegant. Day or night I am really happy that this place exists.I truly believe in this space as being a healing place, and you can feel it too. Aside from the powerful jacuzzi jets which can get rid of any muscle knots the sauna is a quiet place to reflect. And then for the brave, after youre hot and toasty, the outdoor shower with cold water! Reawaken the self!!! This place is worth every penny.Thank you, Common Ground!
Peaceful experience during silent hours. Very mellow. Loved it.
My first visit and it won’t be my last! Wonderful 30-minute deep tissue massage.
Had the best experience here! Prices are reasonable, they have a cute selection of retail items ( BUY THE SALVE) and Brittany is great. A sweet, calm presence that instantly relaxes you. I cant wait to go back
Super clean, affordable, and peaceful. The soaking pool and sauna were really nice! Highly recommend this place for a relaxing experience that leaves you feeling refreshed.
I had a massage with Brittany yesterday, and she was incredible. She asked me first what I was looking for, did an assessment of my issues, and then really paid attention to each spot that needed help. I came in for a deep tissue, and she went above and beyond! Will definitely be using her expertise from now on.
An Oasis in the City. Wonderful place to soak your bones and your cares away. Nestled in the middle of a neighborhood, you would not suspect the joys that await the haggard visitor. The therapist listened to my needs and worked on them until my pain had subsided. Then I was able to soak in the whirlpool and relax in the sauna. The staff was very inviting and helpful making sure I had everything I needed during my time there.Next time Im in the area I will have to return.
Really have enjoyed my first few visits here. The facilities are very spacious, clean, and updated. The courtyard is decorated really nicely. My only complaint is the sauna heater is a bit undersized/underpowered for the room and because the door is frequently opened the space never gets to proper temperature. Also the heater needs a larger mass of stones, you can see the heater elements when they cycle on. A proper sauna heater heats the stones which radiate the heat. And finally there is a note to not put water on the sauna stones. The term dry sauna is something Americans have made up. A proper sauna involves adding water over the stones to create Loyly. Ive mentioned these things to the staff at the end of each visit but I havent seen any changes to their equipment or policy. If they could get the sauna right this place would be perfect.
So happy with our visit here! My fiance and I did a 2 hour soak and sauna and I really think we found our new date night spot! Its nude friendly which doesnt bother us but we both wore suits which didnt seem to bother anyone. They were so warm and welcoming at reception they have lockers showers and private bathrooms if you are prude or not comfortable around a lot of naked people I would suggest calling ahead and asking how many reservations they have made in the time you plan to visit. If you are comfortable with all of that then you definitely need to try this place! We got lucky and it snowed on us when we were soaking in the giant hot tub it was beautiful! This place is very reasonably priced and so worth it! Give it a try you wont be disappointed!!
I love this healing space. The facilities are so pristine and the prices match the service. Common grounds wellness makes it easy for Hot tub soaks and dry sauna steams to be part of my regular, go-to self-care practices.
I have to say that my experiences at common ground started a very long time ago... maybe a decade? Ive been working with providers there for years. Maybe five years ago, Tara, who is amazing 👏... gave me a life changing recommendation. This began the working relationship that I have built over time with Carlos Cruz. Professionally, he has had boundaries that have allowed me to just be a normal person and heal from general tension as a bodyworker as well as healing from an MVA that has impacted my ability to work. I am so grateful to Crystal and so many folks who work here. Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your healing atmosphere at your Bathhouse. Blessings to you and all that you do for community
What a wonderful place! The staff is welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable.I have only taken advantage of the soaking pool and sauna but they also offer massages, acupuncture and naturopathic care. Look at their calendar to find out when their women only/men only/queer only times are. The rest of the time, it is mixed. The soaking pool is surrounded on all sides for privacy but it is open to the sky so you can enjoy looking up and out and occasionally feeling the rain on you. There is an outdoor cold shower to cool you off if you need. While there, you also need to step into the sauna. The soaking pool is a great social area but the sauna provides a drier heat and a quieter space.Take some time for yourself. Relax and enjoy.
Great place! It’s obvious they go out of their way to hire respectful and competent staff. My only suggestion is if you are trans or non binary, prepare to be gendered by other guests. I do wish the staff would remind guests (even those that have visited before) of the rules like that the soaking area is to remain quiet and not to assume the gender of other guests. I know there’s signs around but it seems people don’t read them. However this space is super respectful otherwise and it’s clear they aim to keep it safe and comfortable for everyone.
Relaxing environment. Spiritual vibes. Fantastic massages! The outdoor soaking pool and the sauna are perfect for being alone in or bringing a friend with. Common ground is a place I would like to go to monthly, it really helps center me.
Update: March 17 response to management- the only non-discriminatory way to require COVID testing is to require it for ALL patrons.Update: As of February 2022, unfortunately they have updated their policies to be discriminatory, bigoted, unscientific, and non-inclusive.Previous review: This place is a fantastic hidden gem. It is a wellness-based soaking pool with a more spiritual and wellness oriented take on soaking pools. It is also clothing optional. This is a specific wellness oriented niche pool which is amazing and I love it.I highly recommend soaking and then using the cold shower and then soaking again and then using the cold shower again rinse repeat rinse repeat. Amazing experience. It is a welcome and stark contrast to the McMenamins soaking pools or Tub and Tan which are much more party oriented. If you want to go somewhere where you can soak and meditate or read a book this is a great place. If you want to go somewhere where you can have a big party with a bunch of friends in a soaking pool this is not the place for you. There are other places for that. They do not serve alcohol here and you are not allowed to be intoxicated here. You are also not allowed to look at people outside of your party for their privacys sake, and you are not allowed to use your phone inside. You are not allowed to talk to people outside your party. This is not a social pool. You are not allowed to public display of affection. This is not a sex oriented pool, if you want that go somewhere else.
Ive never been to a clothing optional spa, but I decided to give it a go for New Years Eve (I hate NYE, and have decided to learn to enjoy it by pampering myself). I had a massage sandwich which includes a massage with a soak before and after said massage. You can decide if you want to wear clothing or not, and it was nice to see there was a mix of people who did both. I decided to go sans clothing which Id never done before, and I felt very comfortable. They have very clear rules about interaction between people, which I really appreciate. I also liked that they have both the soaking pools and the sauna. The massage...I cant even tell you how good my massage was. Ive had a lot of them in my life, but this was hands down the best Ive ever had. My practitioner was Jonathan Berg and I left feeling energized and relaxed all at the same time. Im definitely going back.
Strong massaging jets on the hot tub. Good sauna. Calming atmosphere and nice subtle decor. Very clean. Highly relaxing and recommended. I hear the massages are fantastic too.Edit: I received a great massage here and the soak/massage sandwich is a perfect way to relax, especially after holiday travel.
Check out website for coed/gender specific hours and hours children are allowed before you go. Quiet hours also available. Usually able to walk in without a reservation but I would also recommend that you make one. Good payment choices for membership but membership not necessary to enjoy the center. They keep the indoor portion of the bathhouse warm in the winter too. As mentioned, clothing optional. Bring a towel or rent one from the center.
Average for portland. Below average for los Angeles. Their dry sauna is set to 110 degrees well below most places. The hot tub is just warm and really for people to talk and socialize not relax. Basically not the place to go if you need to relax or use heat to resolve muscle issues.
Went on a Saturday night and was unexpectedly asked if we had a reservation. I had never had to do that at previous bath houses/hot springs Ive gone to. We had to wait an hour before we could go in, but we had a great time. The guidelines are a little strict IMO, but not outrageously so. Will be going back, but I still prefer the place I went to in my college town
Just what we needed on a wet day in Portland so why not make it a warm wet day?! We alternated between the hot tub and cold outdoor shower.
Simply the best11/19There seems to have been a massive exodus of the staff we originally enjoyed here. The premises do not seem to be as well taken care of. By that I particularly mean the hot tub itself. It just doesnt look as clean as it used to. Also those lockers are painful to use, especially if you use glasses and need them to see the numbers, but dont wear them while in the spa and sauna.
I had a really bad first experience and will never be back. The visit started off with the host telling me that I would not be allow to wear my sunglasses out near the soaking pools. She then had my boyfriend and I read through their policies. I quickly looked through the rules and signed my name. After this was done I was charged $6 more than the price that was listed on their website. I let it go because I didnt feel like arguing as I just wanted to soak and enjoy my afternoon. After I paid I was asked to leave my drivers license with them which I found a little unsettling. I complied and was then asked to turn over my cell phone! I stated that I would just run out to my car and leave it there instead as I thought their request was beyond inappropriate. While in the parking lot my boyfriend stated that he did not feel comfortable soaking there as he found requests in their polices to infringe on personal liberties. The policies stated they would not allow touching such as holding hands or other simple displays of affection!!! We returned to the front desk and notified them that we did not agree with their policies got our drivers licences and left the establishment.
Great place with friendly staff. Always feels welcoming. Clean and well taken care of. Have been a member for a long time and always leave there feeling relaxed.
Been soaking here for years, its my primary healthcare really. While the quality of the tub has gone down over the last 5 years (yellow grime buildup, not always up to temp, only 1 jet left with significant strong pressure) its still worthwhile. They say its a mineral tub but I smell chlorine.Edit: It is not worthwhile. I used to go here up to 3x a week. As theyve raised their rates, Ive cut back to just 1x. But now that its at $20/hr *for members*, its just another overpriced Portland swank spot. At $20/week to soak once (plus the membership fee), over the course of a year I could pay for over 4 years of my phone bill ($1090).
Every time Ive been here, the place is clean, people are respectful, and its typically quiet and relaxing. I do prefer when they dont turn the jets on, though, since it seems to make the air taste like chlorine. I go for the hot tub primarily.
Great place for a soak and some time in the sauna to melt away those winter blues. This is a family friendly and clothing optional facility. Be sure to check the website if your orientation is allowed since they have restricted entrance during certain times.
Perfect combination for relaxation. Common Ground Wellness Center has been around for decades. The environment is welcoming and secure and they have several massage therapists with different styles for you to choose from. The changing area has lockers with wheeled combination locks so you dont have to bring one. The customers meticulously observe the etiquette, shoes off right away. Ive never seen customers walk into the tub area with street shoes on. Everyone showers before entering the tubs. There are general, men only, women only and trans/gender free-only time blocks. Nudity is the general way but frequently one or two women or men will keep a swimsuit on. Theres no body shaming: this isnt a gym. The staff keep a close watch on the tubs, even sampling them while customers are soaking. The sauna is in the same space so you can easily pop up out of the tub and walk into the sauna, and sit (towel under you) on the benches and cool off. A really great deal is the massage sandwich, where you soak for 30 minutes, youre met by your massage therapist, have your massage, then return for a final 30 minute soak. Memberships are available but you can also go if youre not a member. Their website clearly shows the prices; they also list all of the therapists and their styles, and you can book your appointment by day and time on the website. Long ago parking was an issue but now they have their own parking lot; reservations are best, to be sure theyre not full when you want to go, but you can walk in and ask if theres space available. Non-members pay $20 for a one-hour soak. You leave your ID with the staff. Thats a good approach; it helps convince potential troublemakers to play elsewhere. The environmental is emphatically non-sexual so I suspect women dont feel the tension they have to face everywhere else in their lives; CGWC has always been a creep-free zone to my knowledge.
I always enjoy my time here! Calming and gorgeous grounds with amazing steam rooms!! It is clean and has friendly staff. Id recommend calling and making a reservation rather than walking in. $22/hr I believe and that includes changing time.
This place feels ceremonial and is excellent.
I love having this place in my neighborhood. Gorgeous space, and the vibe is just right. My only complaint (a minor one) is that I often seem to want to soak on one of the womens only or gender queer nights, which arent open to me as a man. So learn from me and check their calendar of events before you get your heart set on a soak.
While looking for Structural Integration bodywork in the area, commonly known as Rolfing, I stumbled across Common Ground Wellness Center and their practitioners. CGWC offers an array of services, from soaking tubs and pools to massage, SI, acupuncture and many more services. Ive had several Structural Integration sessions with Carlos, unwinding fascia holdings and impingements that built up over years. Each session I feel better and better! My feet, back, and neck dont hurt like they did. Im sleeping longer, better than I have in a really long time. People I know who watch movement for a living all day every day have been asking what Im doing because they can see changes after every session! Because Im not in pain all the time, Im happier and enjoying doing things I thought I couldnt do anymore. So glad to find out I was wrong, doing the things I love again! I highly recommend you check out Common Ground Wellness!
Great place to relax and unwind. Nice soaking tub and fantastic suana. Nice outdoor cold water shower. Clothing optional with different nights catered to various groups.. Staff have ALWAYS been beyond friendly, fantastic, and helpful.. Great group and diverse clientele. No judgement or harassment is tolerated at all by staff or guests making this such a beautiful relaxing safe place to be
I love soaking here. Self care Sunday with a massage, CBD chocolate from the carts on Alberta, and a soak at common grounds before dinner; this is the calmest and most accepting place to soak your body.Everyone here has always been so nice, the pool here has a very special place in my heart ❤️. Thank you all for doing what you do! 🙏
Reception area reeked of marijuana, sauna wasnt very warm. Overall weird vibe.
Slow boil yourself in a stew of naked public Portland bodies. Eww, why would I give it five stars and then describe it that way?Because, I want you all to stay away from my super amazing peaceful non creepy relaxation spot. Don’t go. Just send them money so they stay open… but for me not you.
This is a great place to soak and sauna! The staff is friendly and the facilities are clean. Its generally a great, relaxing experience. Im only giving it 4 stars because there is no cold plunge. That actually makes a big difference to me.
Warm soak pool in a peaceful, open air courtyard. Sauna + cold shower complete the set-up. Clothing optional, all gender, no-touch space. Very pleasant.
This was an awesome experience.I have never been to anything like this the massage / silking tub and the sauna was just what I needed definitely recommend checking this place outMichael Roop
I will be back one day !!! I love this co-Ed, clothing optional soak spot. Before corona virus, this place was my go-to in Portland, Oregon.I am an LMT, so I can be picky about who I get my massage from. I highly recommend Johnathan Berg. He is highly skilled and, is a wonderful therapist. Thanks for all the good memories, CGWC !I cannot wait to come to soak again when corona virus calms down a little bit.
Its so relaxing and it was the perfect thing for us on our visit to Portland because the weather was colder and snowier than we expected. The whole place is co-ed and most people take the no clothing option. Its clean, well-managed, and affordable.
A nice spa, but unfortunately with those high spa prices.YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS! This spa is popular and usually booked.Spa area is coed clothing optional. There is a Jacuzzi and sauna. Rates bo in half hour increments, 30, 60, 90, etc... There are men only and women only nights, as well as other times set aside for transgendered.
Went during silence hour which was actually really peaceful. Id recommend and will be going back when possible
Beautiful place that has a gender neutral lounging tub and sauna! They also offer massages but I did not take part in that. Clothing is optional and is exty calming! Would return
I have gone to Common Ground for around 10 years and always enjoy my time there. In particular I appreciate working with Betsy Loncar, LMT. Betsy provides highly skilled and thorough bodywork, and has a warm presence and positive energy. I always leave feeling taken care of and much better than when I came in! I am a former massage therapist myself, and I cant recommend her enough. Thank you Betsy!
I received a massage from Nancy. She was very professional and knowledgeable about my specific body concerns. I received a 90 min. massage and walked away feeling limber and relaxed. I plan on returning to maintain good function of my body 🙂
A serene environment for relaxation and healing, gender neutral, non-sexual, non-threatening. Clothing optional. Saltwater hot tub, dry sauna, large all-gender shower area. Single occupant restrooms. In house Massage therapy available for appointments. Membership is NOT required though it is a co-op so would save you money to join in you were to utilize the services a lot.
This wellness spa appears to try to practice an ethical business model, and to be inclusive. I frequent this place and always bring my friends. They have more than one womens night, a trans/gender queer night, and minors are welcome until around 8pm I think. I also see one of the naturopaths there and I really enjoy those visits.
Wish I had started coming here sooner. The massage that I had really help straightened out my back. They offer a message that the therapist actually walks on your legs. Its intense, but working on my nagging lower back pain.
I love this place. They are so inclusive of every body, and comfortability. I love the exclusive hours (ie womens only hours, silent hours, etc) during my particular visit there was quite a chatty little girl who kinda killed the vibe, but Im not sure if its common to allow children? Ill only go at silent hours from now on.
The most relaxing place on planet earth! Me and my wife love it and we go there almost 2 times every month! They are clean and staff is very helpful and polite and so are other people using the facility!
I like this place! Only thing to say is, mens only time is very short and is usually on Mondays from 7pm-11pm (Awkward time). Noticed women only gets the whole Saturday!Maybe switch Mens Only to Sundays! Would be nice and probably would go there more often.
Nude optional bath house. This place should make anyone comfortable to be nude, no talking nonsexual environment. Got a massage with Christy, she was very gently and her subtle work got out difficult knots without pain. Your cell phone is not allowed in to protect everyone privacy and you DL is kept to make sure they know who you are if there is an emergency.
Relaxed clean spa area with jacuzzi and dry sauna. Coed locker and shower facility is adjacent to outdoor whirlpool for 25 and a sauna for 10 sitting. Friendly staff and LGBT community is welcome.
I used to love coming here until they told me I am not allowed to wear sunglasses. They said it’s because they’re afraid of people using sunglasses to get away with staring at ppl. That actually made me laugh but they were serious.I would think they wouldn’t need to police sunglasses, but police the people whose actions or energy are actually making others uncomfortable. In reality tho, it was a very sunny day and us Portlanders are not used to that. 8/9 people in the hot tub were wearing sunglasses that day and the staff came back twice to tell people to take them off.I canceled all my future “massage sandwich” appointment and now I go to an indoor soaking tub followed by driving over to my massage therapists office. That inconvenience feels better than being lumped in and policed as if I was being predatory when I really just wanted to protect my retinas.
Most relaxing place. I love that the how tub is outdoors especially when it rains!
Great Atmosphere, Big Hot Soaking Pool with Strong Jets, Dry Sauna & Cold Shower. Huge variety of seasoned Bodyworkers, Massage, Accupuncture, etc... The bathhouse is Co- Ed, Non-Sexual & Clothing Optional with Specific Mens, Womens & TG times. They take your ID for safety reasons & provide locking Lockers for your stuff. Bring a towel & a water bottle or rent. Filtered water provided.
This is a great place to be, to heal and to relax. As it becomes more popular please keep in mind that you are not alone here. Having loud conversations in the pool area or bringing children to play in the pool is disruptive and annoying to others. The McMenamins Kennedy School heating pool is just a few blocks down the street.
An old favorite. Great facilities for soaking and sauna. But a little expensive, smaller than the old days, and I miss the cold tub. Overall, the you get more at Everett House Healing Center (and a closer downtown location) for a similar price.
Soaking tub was heavenly and its outside so you can look at the stars at night. Yes everyone is mostly naked, but you can feel the moment you enter that everyone is doing their own thing and your space is respected.
I had an excellent massage with Fig and enjoyed a soak after. What a special place!
Just did my first soak here and it was absolutely amazing . Went for the womens only soaking hours at 10 and it wasnt too busy at all. Super relaxing environment and the staff was great!
Great calming atmosphere and fantastic health providers. Favorite stop on the way home from work
Relaxing and rejuvenating. Well run and organized. Please note that the showers and dressing room are also co-ed during co-ed times. The parking lot is now much smaller as much of it is being converted to condos.
The waters were relaxing the people were inviting the sauna room was as hot as one could ask. But I recommend bringing your own large soft towels.
I *LOVE* this place! Im a frequent traveller for work, and I will make a bee-line for Common Ground Wellness when I land to get the airplane off of me! Always clean, friendly staff, and great practitioners, too.
This is a great spa! Very comfortable, safe, and relaxing. They have a wonderful outdoor soaking pool. Cant wait to go back! :)
Great place! Dr Mottman gives great chiropractic treatments and accepts insurance. Carlos gives fabulous myofascial treatments.
Love, love, love this place. The employees as well as other guests are thoughtful and respectful. Pulse, free hour on your birthday; ) just be sure to call ahead to book your time slot
I love the open sky while I soak, and not having to wear clothes is the best. Theres nothing better than a massage and a soak to chase away the winter blues.
Clothing optional hot tub experience. Non-sexual, peaceful and relaxing.
I came for mens night. The water was hot and relaxing. Stayed for an hour. Staff were amazing and really enjoy coming here when Im in Portland.
The soak and suana prompted me to give 3 stars, two starts less because of the worst massage of my life. Everyone raved about Shontel but cant say it was the best but the worst. The masseuse focused on my hand and feet, when I explained that the tension was in my traps. She went on to explain about dermatones in the body. Anyway left in pain and am still in pain 4 days later. Research your masseuse before going in.
Great space not too crowded or noisy
A wonderful and relaxing place.Clean, awesome, with excellent & friendly customer service. Everyone was very friendly.I had a wonderful and relaxing time that I decided to visit a 2nd time during my visit to Portland Oregon.
The staff are amazing! Facilities are clean. A great place to feel accepted no matter your body shape or size. Soooooo relaxing.
Very welcoming place! It was my first time going to a spa and I was nervous, but when I got there it was so comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful.
The staff was very nice and above-and-beyond helpful. All of the facilities were nice and well kept. 10/10 would recommend. Quiet place to relax.
I had an amazing massage by Caroline Davis if youre comfortable in a clothing optional environment Id highly suggest getting the soak before and after your massage.
This is the best jacuzzi in town. Also, the wellness practitioners are incredible! I also saw Allison Keil for acupuncture and she relieved my issue in one treatment.
My go to place when I want a soak in a clean relaxing environment. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The prices are fair. Will be coming back again and again.
Caroline did a fantastic job in relieving many of my issues great personality recommend highly
Fun urban coop for stress reduction. Excellent salt water soaking pool, and a large staff of therapists. Please note the pool and sauna are clothing optional.
Lovely massage and service. Nice clean place with respectful workers and visitors
One of my absolute favorite places in Portland. This is a gem. I only tell my closest friends!
So many options for wellbeing treatments. I love my chiropractor and take advantage of the sauna and soaking pool often.
All of the practitioner I have seen were lovely, and the soaking pool is gorgeous and super relaxing!
Local legend, sauna, clean and lovely. Japanense style in ground cement hot tub. Women only, silent hours, and bike discounts. Go with clothes or without!
I love this place. Easy to work with, clean, professional and great variety of services. We are planning on continuing to use their services all year.
Great place to enjoy a soak and sauna. Clean facilities and nice staff.
Relaxing and comfortable environment. Clean. Friendly staff. There were lots of signs on etiquette so it would be good to read their policies before coming.
Wonderful people seem to run this place and really care about it. Its always clean and always comfortable for me and I hope it is for everybody else. Its a real treasure.
Great soak and very cordial guests. Didn’t feel judged or creeped out. Fun to rotate between hot and cold amenities.
My favorite place to relax since forever it feels! So safe, welcoming, grounding...just a safe and gentle staff. Love love love. 🧝♀️🙏🌌🌊
So inclusive! So relaxing! Zero tolerance for body shaming. Also, I highly recommend Fig or Eric as massage therapists there at common ground.
The soaking tub and sauna are very relaxing.Clothing is optionalClean atmosphere
Cute little courtyard space, great universal/non-gendered changing room and shower. High quality everything, very soothing environment.
Im a member, because I love the place so much! Usually really quiet and I can go to mediate and relax.
Wonderful place to go for soak and sauna for the price of going to the movies. I dream of going back D:I believe they are still open for massage.
Мне очень понравилось здесь :)I really liked it here :)(Translated by Google)I really liked it here :)I really liked it here :)
Bliss, pure bliss. Love to use the hot tub and sauna to de-stress after a hard week.
Love this place, but be warned the pool is quite small, prepare to be shoulder to shoulder with others when it is near capacity. Clothing optional.
Wonderful soaking pool, clean showers, happy and friendly staff...I adore this place! Such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Thank you Vick for your healing massage touch! You are a human miracle. May all good come to you 💕.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, all around a safe and relaxing environment, will be back!
Extremely Portland and very comfortable. Great service and welcoming vibe.
A wonderful compound of Health and personal well-being. Staffed by trained and certified professionals. A truly safe environment for all.
Way too pricey for me....
The atmosphere was serene and the staff pleasant. Quite enjoying my time there and will return again!
Hot water and a dry sauna. I prefer to come here at off-peak hours for relaxation, but its alsok fun at peak hours for lively conversation.
Staff is friendly, facilities are clean. Its good to go and relax, be social or for medicinal purposes and its clothing optional 😊.
This place is very cool! There are lots of things to do here. It is a very peaceful place and very welcoming.
This is a great place to relax and unwind. The staff is very helpful and i enjoy all the amenities.
A thousand times wonderful! Clean and cute. So relaxing. I can’t recommend it enough!
Common Ground is one of the gems of Portland. Its a peaceful and safe place to relax and unwind.
Been here multiple times for a good soak! Staff has always been accommodating and gracious! Love it!
Professional people with clean and maintained facilities. Environment was relaxed and non-threatening. Would definitely go again.
Clean, friendly and quiet space. Focused on openness and supportive community. Love the saltwater pools.
This is one of my favorite spas in the city, they have a hugh hottub withjets that will melt away your muscle knots.
Nice jets in the hot tub. Usually, very mellow and relaxing with like minded folk.
My favorite place for a soak and sauna. Clean friendly and well run.
Really cool, calming place... a little spendy but its a nice treat every once inawhile!!
I got a massage from Vic here and it was wonderful. The employees seem knowledgeable and were kind and helpful.
Love this place....clean, well run...has sauna and can get massages too.
Love it. I think I miss this most of all about living in Portland. Local or visitor dont miss this. Nothing more relaxing.
Love this place! Great for soaking and the practitioners are knowledgeable and talented.
Always a healing time. Especially when its less busy. I recommend a Thai massage sandwich from Mel.
Beautiful, relaxing space. An hour at Common Ground is my favorite destressing self-care
A small clothing optional hot tub and spa. Great staff clean facility and a great way to relax
My favorite place for relaxation and the staff are the best!
Inclusive and serene atmosphere, strong jets great for massage.
Warm and friendly environment. Only did massage so far.
I recommend shiatsu with Fig to melt away all the pandemic tension; cant wait for the bathhouse to re-open
Easy going, relaxing, and a great way to get showered up and cleaned if you’re traveling
A great place to take a dip.Co-ed nakedness, so if that bothers you, go elsewhere.
Cozy, respectful space with a great outdoor soaking tub.
I am glad to find this good, very friendly place. I will recommend it all my friends. I will defently come back.
Love this place, haven’t been back since covid but I look forward to it one day.
It’s tiny but comfortable and respectful. No 🧖♀️ steam room 😢.
I love the space and love the staff but I think its a little overpriced for a one hour soak.
Amazing sauna and hot tub. We love the ambiance.
A solid place for some self care!
Best soaking venue in PDX. Nice people. Good masseuses, too.
My favorite place to visit. They have the best towels.
Very relaxing safe space. You can just let your cares float away.
Great place. Nice atmosphere and cool staff.
I love it here. I always feel like a new woman after Im done
