It was stuffy and claustrophobic. Also they charge $3 just to be in there for karaoke. Which I probably would have been fine with if they didn’t try to be sneaky about it.Also, they have a poster supporting genocide and I don’t like my bars to shove their racism and politics down my throat. Regardless of their opinions.Honestly disappointed, hoped it was better.Oh well; there are other queer bars.
I dont know about their normal business model as we were just there for their Hopscotch day parties. The music lineups were great. The bar staff was helpful. The slushies were tasty. The beers were reasonably priced. The music shows were hosted outside, which worked out really well since the weather was good. The only real issue was the fact that theres a huge dumpster right next to the outdoor space that stunk to high heaven. Pretty off-putting.
Queer coded but not accessible. Was barred at the door of an event for having a service animal. While legally allowed, as it’s a private club and NC doesn’t have those protections in place, I find it pretty screwed up that a place that’s supposed to be a safe space for queer humans, of which I am a part of, isn’t accommodating to disabilities. Stinks of disingenuous business practice.
I was outside at the bar and the bartender informed me that my nc issued temporary Id with scannable barcode was not acceptable. That was fine, I asked if I could use a picture of my original Id to get into the event and they said yes. I went inside and was let in using my picture of Id. I was then suddenly escorted out and the door person put their hands on me to do so like I snuck in or had a drink in hand (I did neither). After their employee escorted me out the “owner” said that I had to be 21 and that I had to go and he didn’t care (I’m 27 and followed the instructions given to me). I politely asked for my money back atleast for the event and was met with aggression and the owner walking away from me because he didn’t care. I will NEVER be back. I have never felt so unwelcomed and embarrassed. All over them not knowing their own policy (or atleast only making exceptions for those they “want” there).
I had a really good time. But now that I received a sudden and additional 58 dollar charge two days after my visit my opinion has changed.I already spent 10 bucks to get in, and over 85 total for my drinks andTips for the bar and queens.Im not sure how Im charged additionally two nights after. If this was something simple like 5 bucks, or if this was the night right after or somehow like that Id be more understanding but this is ridiculous. Ive been double charged and made to overdraft even after trying my best to tip well and be polite. Please reach out to me so I can help reverse this decision or please reverse the pending charge without me doing anything, thank you.I really want to come back and continue to enjoy this place, but if nothing can be done to help me I cant see myself coming back
Went to Ruby Deluxe for the first time with friends on Friday night for paid DJ set/dance party. A little disappointed overall with the entertainment and lack of variety of songs played but since the DJ mentioned they were new, its understandable. While definitely a dive bar with a basement feel, the place felt overall welcoming and staff was friendly. Door fee was pretty high and I wish you were able to enjoy some indoor games without needing to pay but otherwise an okay experience. Would return.
They seem very welcoming to new/amateur performers, which is great if youre trying to get into the drag or burlesque scene in a friendly environment.Ive only been to a drag show and bingo night here, I preferred the bingo night-- the energy is better. I hope to come to more events, especially at their sister locations!
I absolutely love this place!! This is my favorite bar to go to whenever I visit Raleigh!
The best bar, i’ve been to in my life! Immediately felt welcome and loved by all the deep red ambiance. In casual conversation I mentioned I was bi and non-binary and was immediately accepted for who i am. As this political culture has increasingly become hostile towards anyone outside of the “norm”, these spaces are vital for our LGBTQ+ community. It of up most importance to preserve and protect our queer folk, including resisting the current GOP policies that target all marginalized groups.food could be better, unless that cheez-it i found crammed into the back of the bar wasn’t meant for me
I am a local and this was my first time here, not to mention I had a friend from out of town here as well. We requested a Long Island iced tea and unfortunately the taste was off, Like the glass wasn’t cleaned thoroughly. We asked the bar tender Lindsey if she could make the drink over and got a straight up no. I am in the service industry as well, and never in my adult life have I been told no about a drink that I didn’t like. We didn’t want our money back or anything, we just asked if it could be made over. Lindsey was VERY! rude. And when I asked to speak to a manager she said she was the manager and proceeded to help another patron. VERY rude again. I used my hard paying money for a drink that I was supposed to enjoy, I don’t consume the drink do my money went down the drain. Service goes a long way and this establishment need to improve in this area of their business.I am writing this review but will also be making a call.I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN.
Didnt eat here. Was walking by, heard the music and went it. This was truly a first for me. It was Glitter Hour to our surprise. So talented and fun.The only thing lackluster were the drinks. Just get canned beer.
The first bar, in my life, I have ever been immediately asked to leave while handing me my tab. In casual conversation I mentioned I was a gay Republican, and apparently they have a firm policy against Republicans in their place of business. As a civil libertarian, I respect the right of a business owner to refuse service to anyone, but inversely I respect my right to tell the world how pathetic it is to profile and ban people from a commercial business based on someone’s voter registration.
One of my favorite bars to go with a group of friends downtown. I could drink those alcoholic smoothies they make all night! Very affordable and I love how they have a downstairs dance floor in addition to an outside sitting section for some fresh air. The bartenders are also always a lot of fun as well.
Came to see my friends perform for their album release. The staff were really cool and nice but lord it was soooo dim in there. Please use the bathroom before coming because we could BARELY see anything and the toilet paper wasn’t that great so my friends and I felt like we weren’t even sure if we cleaned up properly. The bisexual bathtub drink is to DIEEE FOR, ITS SO GOOD. Also the alcoholic caprisun (caprifun) is good too but I recommend the fruit punch flavor, it’s better than the strawberry kiwi. Also it was insanely hot inside so dress accordingly.
Great queer space with some unique drag shows. They need to get their online presence figured out though. Times and events are often incorrect or overlap. Overlapping would be fine if they were upfront about door times for each event online. And their reliance on Instagram is a hindrance for those of us who do not wish to support Meta.
Love this bar, love the music and dancing, quality curated space for a long time running, bartenders are great. I can’t get here often enough but always have a fun time when I do. Most of all I love their no b.s attitude, high standards and particularity. The nightclub / service industry has to cater to alot of fools, especially those who think they are welcome to spew their rhetoric whenever wherever but are turned off by a set of unwavering principals with backbone. Expect fun and togetherness for all ye compassionate partygoers. Dog bless America.
First time going to see a friend perform and I had to leave early just because I couldn’t see anything. No seating was available unless you paid for it so everyone was standing crowding around the small stage in this tiny building and unfortunately I am very short and no one would move out of my way. I tried to squeeze around but no one would move. After 40 minutes of not being able to see anyone perform I had enough. It was very disappointing.
My wife and I loved this place, it was the highlight of our night. The amateur burlesque show had a lot amazing performances! Love all the positivity! Love Love Love the bartending staff.
Love to come dance on a Fri/Sat night. Fun and welcoming atmosphere for all walks of life. Great bartenders and approachable prices. Pool tables if you dont want to dance. They often have interesting events going on depending on what day of the week.
Ruby Deluxe is the place to start, be, and end. Period stop blayt
Excellent dive bar. We went on a Tuesday night, so there was maybe 10 people in the bar, but I loved it. Its a little large to call a hole in the wall, but definitely fits in the dive category. If you live in Raleigh and enjoy the dive scene, this place is a must.
Ruby is a great place for a quick drink if youre looking for a darker atmosphere to set the mood. Music is alright, staff is pretty attentive. Not my favorite place, but definitely good for groups to go hang out in relative peace.
Usually love this bar! Very fun place. Kind of annoyed that when my bf and I came in (both trans) we were given this speil about consent and asking for pronouns then were immediately both misgendered by the individual at the front (my bf was called miss, and I got he/himd). Anyways just something to think about. Cant wait for the drag show! :)
Some nights here are really awesome! And some nights here are just plain awful. Always be prepared to have a back up plan in case you run into the latter. Dont take personal offense if the staff or clientele sometimes talk down to you, just channel your inner TaySway and shake it off.I dont agree with a lot of things management and ownership has said/done. They claim to be all inclusive and accepting of all LGBTQ+ people, but many people of the community dont feel comfortable here. Particularly people of the older trans community. And people who have put in decades of lgbtq+ activism in Raleigh to pave the path for a place like Ruby to exist, only to be dismissed and refused acknowledgement of that. That being said, the owner has created a space for many young individuals to flourish and become their true selves. A place that is the only place they can feel safe. And Im happy the RD WW NR trifecta exists to make those individuals feel safe.
Very nice place to hear the best music The DJ be throwing down. Atmosphere is wonderful and the people that comes in are one of a kind. JUST AS I LIKE. BARTENDERS ARE BEAUTIFUL TOO,with Great Drinks. Come and be Served.
BEWARE WHEN PURCHASING TICKETS ONLINE! Their event postings on eventbrite DO NOT disclose that you need proof of vaccination for entry. They only state masks are required. You will not know about this policy unless you visit their website. If you happen to want a refund, you’re better off disputing with your bank because they won’t respond to refund requests. Very sneaky in my opinion.
I went here for k-pop night and bought 2 drinks with my card at the outside bar unfortunately the next day I had found out that my card was double charged not sure if it was a mistake or not.Luckily my bank was able to dispute it and I got my money back but I would just pay with cash moving forward so that these incidents dont occur.
On a fun womans night out, I saw a drag show at Ruby Deluxe. They did not accept credit/debit cards at the door which was a huge bummer. After we found a local ATM we were granted access. The drag show was amazing and deliciously disturbing (many bloody scenes!). During breaks from the drag show, many show-goers enjoyed dancing and getting to know each other. It was a lovely experience and I will definitely be back.
Quite quaint but got very packed on the evening we went. Decent music. The space is narrow so if you- are closterfobic this may not be the place. Drinks were good and wait time at bar wasnt an issue. Some what of a younger crowd (under 30).
On July 30, 2016 at approximately 2335 hours My friend and I was walking and spotted the rainbow flag. I was excited to check this spot out. Upon trying to get it in, this little unfriendly short guy (constantly looking at cellphone) at the door tries to get over on us with the membership. He stated it cost 10 bucks for a membership. I said, cool I will take one. Then the little short guy stated, your friend have to buy a membership too. I inquired why do both have to buy a membership. Then these other girls behind us came in. They told the little short guy that one of their friends was going in under her membership. The little short guy let them through without any hassle. I was livid because a few minutes ago the little short guy stated that my friend couldnt get in under my membership but let these other chicks get in without a membership. This incident ruined my night. Poor customer service at the door.
My friends and I went to dine and see a performance at Ruby Deluxe, we got as far as the ATM machine in the entrance The hostess said it was sold out however he would make room for us Yea,👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Right ..Wrong We had a conversation with the hostess about food ( he said they have pizza only never mind that the websites listed the event as brunch) I then asked about the different opening times on the websites and how one reviewer wrote about all these discrepancies The hostess then ushers us to the entrance ( only we were being escorted out) Why we ask in unison I quote”The show is sold out ( although we seen him put 3 chairs at the bar for us) Rudeness at an all time high!
Such a fabulous (and outdoor and COVID safe) drag brunch!!! Dress for cooler weather during colder months as the outdoor space is well shaded by surrounding buildings even in the afternoon. Had a lovely time!
Great place for experiencing and performing live music. Staff was friendly and sound engineer was competent. They divvy up the entry cost fairly among bands that play.
Dont go there unless you want to deal with bartenders that will throw a tantrum if you dont tip them on every drink. This specifically applies to goth nights on Wednesdays. Go to Legends on Mondays for a real goth club in the Triangle. Better yet, go to Legends on the first Friday of every month; thats when their goth nights are at their best.
The vibe is divey with a damp smell, but the staff and clientele are all friendly. A little quieter than I would have hoped for a Saturday night, maybe because of the $10 cover
Great bar. Great drinks. Extremely grateful that they require proof of vaccination and masks upon entry. A must go for anyone in the city of Raleigh.
Great beer selection for affordable prices. Friendly staff. Gender neutral restrooms. Great punk shows and fun, welcoming dance parties. My favorite Raleigh bar.
A popular, hip club in the heart of Raleigh. They categorize themselves as a dive bar, but they are much more than that. The DJs keep the dance floor packed, the drinks are good, and the Millennial patrons are open-minded and friendly.
The owner is such a great guy! He helped me out of a really tough situation. Most people wouldnt do that; they would just mind their own business. I hope I can get back here soon to support this great local bar.
Trash establishment. Cockroaches all over the place. Cups covered in dried ketchup. Souls of your shoes stick to the floor from dried ketchup everywhere. And all drinks taste like butt
Ruby Deluxe is the coolest 80s party you never had the opportunity to go to, brought together with the least judgemental crowd, a sampling of the coolest tunes and live acts, and catered by booze for all budgets. Go here. Get a membership for 10 bucks. Youll be back to this somehow still hidden gem often.
Was very excited about going had a whole event planned for a larger group of friends but will be deciding to take our business else where being that they require a proof of vaxx… we dont mind wearing a mask but in our opinions proof of vaxx is just as bad as discrimination…maybe down the road they will choose not to discriminate against customers who choose to not have the vaxx…
Very poor customer service. There was a mistake on my order for an event, and they ignored me for weeks before finally refusing to correct the mistake. Will not be supporting this venue again.
So much fun! They have a little bit of everything: drinking (of course), dancing, pool, pinball and a shimmer wall. You can stay outside or go downstairs. So, there are options.
Large dancing area, politically-charged atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, and pool tables. I really enjoyed my time here. (Its basically a gay bar.)
Unbeatable safe party place for everyone except for the bigots! Bigots will get thrown out as they well should. Come when you wanna dance and feel together! perfect end to a night on town
This place has tables, chairs, doors, ice, and all sorts of things youd find in a building. I heard the owner is actually from Saturn and that he came to earth to brain wash bar goers with thoughts of dance and funk with one day the plan to take over the world
Fantastic little whole in the wall glitter bomb right next to the Sheraton. Great place. Cheap drinks. Awesome crowd
Ive never been here, but I read about what Tim did for the protesters. Not all heroes wear capes. This place will always deserve 5 stars.
Awesome bar, always have a great time when Im there! Great drinks, and welcoming vibe for all people.
Found a live rat on the ground and it started screeching at me like a roach. It climbed up my leg and I was terrified I have a fear of rats. 🥹👍 Never coming back. Everyone was rude to me and was racist to me.
Raleighs hottest club is Ruby Deluxe. Theyve got freaks, geeks, and alcoholic kids drinks. Come for the Capri Funs, stay for dancing in the sparkle dungeon.
Google labels Ruby Deluxe as a “dive bar”. And it certainly is a dive...and I love it. As a transplant New Yorker, Ruby reminds me most of the bars that I went to back in NYC.
Best bar in Raleigh. Come for the welcoming and fun atmosphere, stay for the best music and strong drinks.
Waste of time legends better !
Great place to hang out and chill. Great drinks too. Worth going to especially during drag nights.
Great prices with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Dance area is great with a nice seating area outside.
When this club gets pack real fun place to be. The way I would describe it Brooklyn vibes. It’s sad to see you have empty half the time.
Big dance floor, never feels too crowded. The outside bar is perfect when you need some air.
Cool atmosphere, staff is easy to talk to and kind. Had a fun time chatting with the host Celeste
Always fun but a little crowded for me.on the weekends. Love their theme parties and specials!! 😊😊
Loved the dive bar atmosphere. One of the most welcoming bars near downtown Raleigh
Great drink prices and atmosphere. Definitely worth becoming a member here.
Your helper Celeste was an absolute delight tonight, had a warm personality and was a wonderful guide to a girl who had a very long, tedious night.
Great bar. Everyone is welcome. The event nights are good fun.
Great late night atmosphere! You can play pool, dance all night, or just chill with your friends!
Very hip very edgy dive bar with nice friendly staff and good drinks as well as music.
Love this place. Cool, funky, dark, and off the beaten path, even for the middle of downtown.
Lushly place, good for dancing although I want totes feeling the DJ last Saturday night
Nice bar with a big dance floor and quality pool tables.
Love love LOVE this place. Please go if you get ANY chance. The owner is THA HOMIE
Where the true spirit of America is celebrated! Let freedom ring.
A great place for late night fun. Youll meet young locals here.
Good dive-y basement bar. Decent drinks, good atmosphere.
Ernie is a great bartender !
If you like those cheap happening bars, this is the place to go.
Average late-night bar experience, decent outdoor area
Rubys staff is friendly and professional, best gay dive bar in town.
Ridiculous membership fee, not worth it and the staff is extremely rude.
Love this place!! Jose is my favorite!!
Whats not to like? Good crowd, friendly fun people.
Great bartenders and even better DJs.
Love what comes through this venue!
Pretty alright bar. Weird crowd
A place for everyone to go and enjoy a great company and drinks
Quaint joint, ample seating, awesome bar staff

Always a good time to be had at Ruby Deluxe!! ❤️
Come here if you want to get away from all the rich, straight, white people.
Dive is correct. Liked the drag show though.
Amazing people and so much fun!
Nicely priced with a great atmosphere.
Very fun place to stop by or hang for hours!!!!!
Drinks overpriced, bartenders were self obsessed.
Best atmosphere/culture in Raleigh
Amazing… love this place!!!
The worst service I have ever witnessed.
Freaking awesome place to get smashed!
This is where you go to dance and get weird.
Cool fancy dive bar.
So good.
Greatest queer bar in Raleigh
Lame music. Smelled. Crappy environment.
Bartenders just dont care.
Chill crowd, good DJ
