Local neighborhood bar meets great food and atmosphere. Wolla… you have Hammerstone’s!Family owned and run bar/restaurant with a St. Louis “cheers” vibe. Great food in large portions. Fun atmosphere. Local bands playing regularly. And back patio with ample outside seating. If you live in the area, count yourself lucky to have Hammerstone’s in your neighborhood. We were passing through and stopped on a recommendation. So glad we did. This old French quarter area of St Louis has old world charm and Hammerstone’s fits right in.If in the area, stop at Hammerstone’s. Open for breakfast lunch or dinner - you can’t go wrong. We had breakfast and left satisfied and full!
Ive gotten the west coast sub twice from here. Delicious both times. The service was sub par both times. Appetizer arriving at the same time as the main course. Being asked if I want a refill and it gets forgotten.. being told we had to pay a cover charge for a band that hadnt even started playing, AFTER I started ordering (had drinks etc) or I had to move seats to avoid the charge.Good food, poor service.
Lovely tasty meal and service was great too even if they seemed a little puzzled at my polite English nature. And they felt like the sort of place that plays both types of music - country and western. Was amused that the fish and chips proved to be fish and crisps we in the UK would put itStill this was super cheap and super nice.. Loved it!
The steak here is amazing and cooked to order. Well worth the price and the atmosphere is awesome!Update: Had a steak this time around with the order as medium. It came out well done... Im not one to send food back and waste it so I just ate it. There was also a ton of fat on the steak this time around. Not sure what happened on this visit.... Kinda sad because I loved this place the first time.
I recently dined at Hammerstones and while the atmosphere was fantastic, I was disappointed with the quality of the food. The restaurant had a lively and welcoming vibe, with a great selection of drinks and live music that added to the overall experience. However, when it came to the food, I found it to be subpar. The dishes I ordered were lacking in flavor and presentation, and overall, I would rate the food a 2 out of 5. It was clear that there was room for improvement in terms of the menu offerings and execution of the dishes.Despite the food being a letdown, the atmosphere and service at Hammerstones were top-notch. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was enjoyable. If the food quality were to match the atmosphere, I would have rated my experience higher.
Didnt get food but the energy was amazing and service was fast. They have live music every night and its a middle aged to older crowd. Just good people in a nice place. I will definitely be back to try the food.
Wow! Stopped on the way out to Kansas, my love partner and I shared a 1/2 pound ruben sandwhich ...corned beef on marbled rye with garlic parmasean fries. You have NEVER had any corned beef sandwich this lean, this tasty, and so satisfying, unless youve eaten here before. Again WOW...THE service was amazing, it was like having your favorite aunt owning a restaurant. WowFun atmosphere fun people neighborhood joint with live music!!Stop in you will not be disappointed!!!
Excellent bar for a night out and some great Blues, we really enjoyed the music and the whole atmosphere. Beautiful and welcoming, the service was great too. I didn’t really live the drink pussers painkiller, but the beer was good. Couldn’t try their food this time because kitchen was closed at 9 pm. I recommend and will be back!
I went here with my family because we were staying at a B and B nearby and it was within walking distance. We had several chhildren with us and knew that going to a sit down restaurant would take longer than going somewhere like a fast food restaurant. However, our whole night was wasted here waiting for our food. I have NEVER waited for food at a restaurant as long as we did here. Our waitress didnt seem to care one bit about anything and we had to chase her down to even place our order. Our food was medicore and served with a side of cigar and weed smoke. Very gross. We had to keep moving our kids around the table to keep them out of the line of smoke coming from patrons at the other tables. To top off the night, the manager also didnt care one single bit about our experience. Basically said he didnt care if we left bad reviews and that we said we would never came back.
My wife and I went there for lunch one afternoon. She had been there before and enjoyed the food. She spoke of the huge onion rings that were a specialty. She did not exaggerate. The rings were huge and we both were given five or six of them. Our entrees were delicious. She had a Reuben Sandwich. My meal was 1lb barbecue pork steak with pasta salad. In addition to the good food, out waitress was first rate. The atmosphere reminded me of a small bar. All of this helped to make eating here an enjoyable experience.
Nice, neighborhood breakfast spot. I prefer more flavor and seasoning in my food but the pancakes never disappoint. We go often and will continue to go for the friendly atmosphere and delicious pancakes.
I typically visit Hammerstones for either Saturday brunch or a weekday lunch with friends/co-workers. Kyla is typically our bartender/server and is fun, attentive, and simply a joy to interact with. Ive had most lunch and breakfast items on the menu and Ive enjoyed each selection. My most recent visit was last Saturday for breakfast. I had steak and eggs, which was great. Thanks, Kyla and group, for all the great service. I look forward to my next visit!
Normally don’t complain. We go to hammerstones for brunch almost every Sunday. For the past couple years. Normally have a group of 7. Never have had any issues. Mostly sit inside. Service has always been lovely. Usually in and out within a hour even with a group. But today 7/21/2024. We decided to sit on back patio. Service was horrible! We arrived around 9:50 a.m. Took over 30 mins to just get around of coffee and waters. After getting our first round of drinks. We waited for over an hour to get second round of drinks and food was over an hour and 30 min wait. Asked several times to get another coffee. Never received one. Had to get up myself just to get sugar and creamer. Food was cold. Don’t believe that was an issue with the kitchen staff. 100 percent on the server. Never has been in past. Server was sweet but not on her game at all. Very forgetful- but just our table but throughout the patio. Saw more disappointed customers other than myself. Didn’t leave restaurant till 12 p.m. Just very disappointed in how the outside service was today. We will always have our breakfast Sundays at Hammerstones. But hopefully writing this review helps management have servers step up there game.
Great food and service. Super friendly and the music was awesome! Will definitely be back when were in town.
I came in for breakfast, its been months since I last visited. The place was empty. I asked my server for an iced coffee, she looked at me like I was crazy and said they only had hot coffee, but if I let it sit there for a few minutes it might cool down. I am also a server, and if Im asked for an iced coffee I explain we dont typically serve that, but I can put some ice in a cup and make an iced coffee. The effort alone usually pleases people. Not in this case. I ordered scrambled eggs, Irish potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were cold and flavorless, the eggs cold and flavorless, the bacon hard and had been sitting around for hours. I wouldnt usually write a review, but this was very disappointing compared to my previous visits.
Dont clean utensils will use all day knives, spatulas, sanitizer buckets. All I wanted was this place to be great. Ill start with the biggest problem if you ask me, the kitchen manager Dave, he has gotten into a verbal altercation with over half the staff. He condones things like cooking onions with mold on them. Ill go to the crew, the night kitchen crew, one person 20 years old put plastic in the fryers I had to say something about that and reclean the fryer, another 21 year old tried to blow dry rub off someones wings and I had to say something about that, another older man tried to lick pizza sauce off his fingers and touch more pizza sauce and make t ravs I had to say something about that, another person tried to sell a gluten free pizza and parchment paper was stuck to the bottom. My conscious told me he seen the paper I could be wrong. I know all of this because I worked there. The owners are great and the rest of the staff is great but the night shift is horrible great morning shift as well again all I want is for that place to be great. As long as Dave is kitchen manager I will never work or eat there again.
I had not visited for a couple of years, and it has gotten even better! Love the atmosphere in the patio. Really good NA beer.
My entire family is visiting St. Louis en route to the eclipse tomorrow. We decided to eat at Hammerstones rather than go around the corner to a grocery store and spend time cooking at our air b n b. What a mistake. At around 5:30, my husband ordered for my 3 year old son and my sister ordered for her 8 year old while they waited for my other sister, niece, and I to arrive (I was feeding my infant daughter at the BNB). We got there around 6. Service was incredibly slow. The two boys had their food before our server came back to get orders for the rest of the table. My mom actually had to get up from our table and go over to a different server, asking him to find our server because we were ready to order. When she finally came back to our table, I requested she put my sandwich on a rush and bring it in a to go box because I wanted to leave, telling her my son was about to crash (he did not nap today). Long story short, by 7:30 my son was finished eating, almost asleep at the table, and my food was nowhere to be found. I took him and left the restaurant. Without my food. Apparently after I left there were multiple other mishaps and the food took another hour to arrive (well past 8pm). My rushed to go order was the last thing to hit the table.I finally ate my food at 8:45pm. It was cold and soggy. The club sandwich was supposed to have slices of avocado and spinach on it. It had exactly 6 spinach leaves and maybe one slice of avocado. I had to take the sandwich apart to find it.I will give props to the garlic Parmesan fries. If I had been able to eat them when they were hot, I think they would have been delicious.Atmosphere: not kid friendly, unless you like your children inhaling cigar and weed smoke.
Nice Saturday brunch spot. The food was good but not exceptional. The server was friendly and brought the food quickly.
One of the best po boy french bread in Stl and definitely some great Louisiana style fried chicken and Stl special hot frecnch fries. Drinks were reasonably priced. The reason I am giving three stars is due to mixed feelings about their male server Tim. Megan, on the other end, was delightful. Live music was perfect and mesmerizing. Band folks deserve five stars; please enjoy their videos.
Okay def a hidden gem. I saw the great reviews and was having breakfast alone and wanted to try somewhere that wasn’t this super Instagram worthy meal that wasn’t even that good. Came in and sat down, ordered off the small menu and sipped on my delicious and strong coffee. The meal came and looked good enough, but once I started eating wow!! The sausage was juicy and yummy, eggs cooked to perfection, bacon perfectly cooked, and the Irish potatoes were yummmmm. The pancakes I wasn’t looking forward to cause well they’re just pancakes, surprise! They’re awesome!! Perfectly cooked and taste absolutely divineeeeee. I’ll def be back and bringing my friends and family. Delicious and filling breakfast for a great price and friendly staff in a chill atmosphere.
Live music was too loud. The server brought out dirty side plates for our appetizers, and one of them had a very long hair on it. She also brought out a cup of Sprite with a bug in it. The drinks were watered down.
Got the BBQ pork steak, which was good value for the amount of food, but the food overall was lackluster in flavor. If you really enjoy blues music then maybe the atmosphere will be fun, but overall was more so just kinda sad. Street parking only.
Another legendary Soulard bar. One of the best places for breakfast/brunch in the area. The staff is top-notch! Prices are fair. Its a busy scene on the weekends. They open at 6:30 AM
What a little gem! They had live music that started at 2pm. A very nice blues band at that. We ate lunch and danced to several songs. The food and beer / cider choices were good. The crowd was very friendly and the service was good. They never bugged us to drink more. We met a couple whos entire family came for a surprise birthday party. We felt like part of the family. Great fun.
Wouldnt recommend for food, but if youre looking for great music and strong drinks it could be worth a visit. The waitress got my order wrong, but was quick to replace it! No complaints about the service, especially since they seemed understaffed. The food and drinks on the other hand were not so good. I ordered the poe boy and it had literally 5 pieces of shrimp on it. The quality of the poe boy itself was nothing special. The drinks were really strong as well. The cocktail my girlfriend got tasted like 70% alcohol. Which is great, but ultimately did not taste good.
Hammerstones is ALIVE, friendly and authentic. We were there for breakfast and even though it was 9:00 am and there was no scheduled entertainment, the friendly energy of the local crowd and the staff was off the charts. Our food looked and tasted like it was made with pride. Our waitress (who was also the bartender) was super attentive and each one of her table visits made our experience boo coo better. I had the Soulard Omelette, served spicy for that extra Nawlins kick. Ill be back in St. Louis often and this will be my go-to every time.
Stopped in as we were passing through StL. Lisa was an amazing bartender/server with great recommendations. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection.
Yall let me just tell you this chicken was off the chain!!! Cooked to perfection and taste amazing... They have a live band only thing about having a loud band in a small establishment youre screaming to talk to your waitress and your party at the table with you other than that I had a great experience here will definitely be going back!
Good food great service. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Everyone is always so nice. If you don’t want to sit inside, you can sit outside on the patio. Even if it’s raining, they have an awning she still can be outside. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights there’s always live music. It is a great time.
If you’re in St Louis and looking for great bars: you gotta go to SOULARD.If you’re in Soulard and looking for the BEST bar: you gotta go to HAMMERSTONES.If you’re in hammerstones and want to meet the best bartender in the mid-west; you gotta ask for KYLA!It’s a simple formula.Great food, great drinks and great music- also a really good vibe with a combination of local regulars and out of towners. The owners of this establishment should be very proud of what they’ve created here. I can’t wait to return.
Hammerstones has live music every day. The servers are friendly and the food is good. I recommend the burgers and macaroni chilli.
Great live music, great patio and good food. The fried green tomatoes will make you happy to be alive. Id love to have them on a catfish poboy. Tip = when sitting outside during the day, try to get a table closest to the building. Those tables will be in the shade earlier than those near the stage. Important detail for my Irish husband 😉
There is a decent selection of food and drinks here. The appitizers were great. The stuffed mushrooms sand fried tomatoes were especially delicious. The was a great band playing on the patio. The tables were well distanced and most people had masks on at their table though the are not required once you are seated. Both the food and drinks were reasonably priced. Ill be going back soon.
Band was great and Cajun Mac and cheese was delish!
The food is an 11/10, the drinks are an 11/10, the music/band is 11/10, and the patrons and staff are so friendly! Had such a good time coming, definitely will come back!!!
I love Hammerstone’s! They have some of the best food in the city. They have good bands, it’s always a fun time! The service is great. They have a fun drink menu and the food is always good. I love the patio, as well. Highly recommend!
Excellent customer service from the staff. Great bar menu if you’re looking to grab a quick bite for lunch
Excellent prices, nice staff, good food. Great dog-friendly patio.
Our server Lisa was excellent! I own a catering business and work manage another kitchen. So my standards are high. Service was great , food was delicious! Highly recommend the Cuban and the poor boy! Ive been here for brunch on a Sunday and it did not disappoint! Great food made in house, great service and at a decent price!
Great place for live music 7 nights a week. The food is good, the drinks are reasonably priced & the music & atmosphere is great.
Our party arrived and ordered at 12:15 our food came at 2:35 two hamburgers a salad and a pizza all the food was dry and cold
Its a great place and good food. When they have a band playing, its so loud you have to scream to order food and all conversations have to end.
I’ve never been here for breakfast before and it was very very good. The Irish potatoes are wonderful and the service from Maya and Jaden was better than expected. The menu has enough variety and sitting outside. Made it a very lovely Saturday morning. I’ll definitely be back.
I ordered a spiced mojito and what I got was the worst mojito I’ve ever had. Not a drop of alcohol was in it and then they still tried to charge me $8 for it then acted surprised when I asked them to take it off the bill. Sorry but if I’m paying for a cocktail I expect to taste even a hint of booze. Everything was good though. We had a huge order of fried pickles that was fried well and came with remoulade and the snow kitty cocktail that was tasty.
Its always a great time at Hammerstones, food is yummy & beer is cold & music is unbeatable!!
The fried chicken is great and the purple cabbage. Tge Irish potatoes aregood. The only thing I was concerned about is that when I gave the server my card to pay she went in the back with it for some time then came.back and rang me out at the front register. It just didnt feel right especially with card theft occurring all the time .
Pretty decent breakfast, not the worlds greatest, but always solid. Waitress is attentive and polite. Good burgers, fun patio.
Good friendly service. Clean place damn good food. I highly recommend this place. I dont drink anymore but they have all very large selection over drinks. From beer, wine, hard liquor. Very relaxed atmosphere
Went to the cards game and had breakfast here the following morning. Really good, food was great and service was amazing. Get the biscuits, you wont be disappointed. Had an omelet, cant remember what the wife had. Food was really good. Give them a try, you wont be disappointed.
Cool little pub that has live music most every night. GREAT CUBANO sammich!
Bright and early this place gives you all the drinks and food to recover from a very good evening!
Great atmosphere with the live music on stage playing everything from James Brown to Blues. There was a $5 cover for seating inside either at the bar or table. Security kept out dramatic patrons. Glad I came!
Had a great time here with my cousins. There is a large outdoor area and some of it is covered. The stuffed mushrooms are incredible! All of the food was fantastic and we had a great time. It was a really great atmosphere and everyone there was having fun. This was the first time I went there but it was great. I definitely recommend this place.
Enjoyed my burger. Waitress was nice and informative.
Great live music and pub-like atmosphere. Service was a bit slow, and the food wasn’t very good. But, great place for some drinks and entertainment!
Great place to stop in for a drink and to catch some live music. We didnt have anything to eat, but the drink choices were great.Great cozy vibe with great service.Bravo!
If you are looking for a dive bar and restaurant on a Tuesday then this is the place for you! I really enjoyed the accommodations. It had seating area and bar inside with live music. We were told there was a cover charge for inside so we choose to eat outside on the huge patio area. It is a smoking establishment also. Tuesdays are Taco days and $10 pitcher margaritas! Our waiter, Jay, was amazing and accommodating. When we asked to change the music for our 7 year old daughters he made it happen by turning the volume down. I would recommend this place for more of a date night or a group fun night. Not so much for a daddy and daughter night. Also they serve breakfast. Over all I loved the place
Great place for breakfast. Was right down the road from our apartment and the food was great. Not to pricey. We went back again before we left st louis
Food was great!!! Had a bad experience with my server Kayla!! She gave us bad service from the minute we got in there!! She talked to us with disrespect I was very appalled by how she was talking my friends….. We’re all in the industry and would have tipped her alottt if it wasn’t for the horrible service!!
The live music was great! Neighborhood seemed a little sketchy after dark, but the bouncer was willing to walk people to their cars. Our server seemed distracted and we didnt get our food for 45 minutes. We could tell it had been left under a warmer for a while as the cole slaw was hot on top and cool at the bottom. Other servers were on point. Everyone was very friendly.
The place was cool... drinks were strong which I like. They had a very spirited band... a older guy singing and a woman that was absolutely great on the guitar. Its a smaller bar but we all enjoyed the place. Its right in beutiful soulard and a different vibe then the other places there. I would go agin...
Great food and the chicken fingers are uniquely top notch.
Didnt realize there was a $5 fee per person added to the bill because there was a live band. The cocktails were good, but pricey. The food was decent, but not worth going out of your way for. The service was great! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a bit of an older, quieter crowd. Overall a good experience, but with so many options in the area this bar doesnt particularly stand out to me.
If I could put ZERO stars for this place I would! Sage was my server and he was AWEFUL! He messed up on my order TWICE! He took too long to bring it out and then my food was cold! The staff weren’t friendly at all. DO NOT GO HERE! Terrible customer service.
Unpretentious , good place for budget dine out. chicken basket and cobb salad recommended. nothing outstanding. but a good combination of food, service. atmosphere
Probably my favorite dive for a Friday night beer and listening to some blues. Food is good, staff is friendly, beer selection is good but atmosphere is great.
The food was ok but they lost my friend’s credit card and swore they never had it. There were no false charges but she had to get a new card-a real hassle. Don’t go if you aren’t there for the music. It’s so loud there’s no conversation happening.
Our waitress was Lisa. She was awesome! if you come ask for her. If you get the beer be sure to get a bucket sitting outside the beer gets warm pretty fast in the spring and summer. Food was average typical happy hour food but it came out hot. They have a stuffed mushroom with sausage and crawfish something interesting to try.
I got the pork steak plate. It was cold and very little BBQ sauce. The sides were good. I was in a booth and as people were coming in, the server was seating people around my booth to where I could not get out without me saying excuse me, may I get out of this booth 😅 🤔.
We’ve been coming to hammerstones for breakfast and lunch for years now and yesterday I had the worst experience. I don’t foresee returning. The service and food were horrible. It took over an hour to get one omelette and a Bloody Mary. Our server was terrible, people who ordered after us got their food and we’re leaving before us. The food was so bad and typically it’s delicious. Even the Bloody Mary was bad. If it wasn’t for being way far behind on my day I would’ve been asking for a manager and making a bigger issues while I was actually there.
This place is the bomb. Excellent and friendly service from the gentleman who seated us, to our server (Maya). Food was on point. Breakfast pizza ftw. Prices are very reasonable. Keep up the great work!!!
Great food, live music 7 days a week, cool atmospher, and Jennifer took great care of us! You have to try the fried green tomatoes!
Food is decent but not worth the attitude from the rude employees. I got attended by a bartender by the name of Kyla and she had a complete attitude against me and other people there. Apparently her and her other co worker were arguing over who’s bringing out who’s drink and the gentleman had to sit there while they throw petty fits up until the customer gets up and kindly ask for his drink that has been sitting on the bar for a quite a while of time. Then the same bartender was completely rude to me and had no respect. I had to put in my card Manuel and everyone else never minds but she had a problem with it and made me yell card numbers across the bar saying I couldn’t come any closer. Then she doesn’t even hand me a receipt to sign. Completely out of line service I came here quite a bit in the last couple weeks but maybe I’ll find somewhere else to go. Every other experience though haven’t been bad so I give them a 2.5
A very good breakfast with nice size portions and a reasonable price. Thick, full omelettes, nice toast and very good potatoes. I particularly liked the coffee here. Service is friendly, but the wait staff has to scamper as they could have used an extra person on this day. Still very well worth grabbing a morning bite here.
Great dive bar vibes with a spacious back patio. The food was excellent for bar food and the band playing was enjoyable. The staff are very attentive and the waitress (shout-out to Maya) even ran after me to return my card when I clumsily forgot it. All and all a great time!
The patio is great. As another reviewer said, there are quite a few tables and they are spaced out very nicely, which was our primary draw to this location. The food was really good, as well as the beer selection. It was our first time here and Im sure well be back.
I had breakfast on March 14th. The service was excellent. I ordered half an order of biscuits and sausage gravy with a side of hash browns. My husband had banana pancakes with eggs and turkey patty. The food tasted like my mother’s home cooked breakfast. This is saying a lot as she owned a restaurant and served breakfast. The ambiance is nice if you like a “Cheers “ atmosphere. Prices are more than reasonable with generous portion sizes. I cannot wait to eat on their patio when the weather warms up.
Located in the 💚 of Soulard. Live music on the Saturday we went. Huge patio, not as crowded as some nearby bars. Plenty of space to sit back and enjoy. Food was hot and a short wait.
Always great atmosphere and food! Drinks (beer) a little bit pricey but the vibe there makes up for it
Food was ok, the chicken was tasty. The Cole slaw wasnt bad. The fish and chips was not very good and the smashed potatoes was more onion than potatoes. Music playing was good but way too loud for the space. We moved outside and that was better. Inside we couldnt talk and even the waitress was having a hard time taking our order because the music was so loud.
🍳⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visited for Sunday brunch, and the wait staff was honest about the slight delay due to understaffing. Appreciated the transparency! The Hammer slider was disappointing, but the breakfast pizza and the third dish were scrumptious! 🍔🍕🤤 #SundayBrunch #HonestService #DeliciousFood
If you like breakfast that tastes amazing please try this place!! I stayed in the area and Hammerstones came highly recommended. The cheese grits and cinnamon french toast was sooooo delicious. Fast and friendly service. Lisa the bartender took excellent care of me. Thanks Lisa 😊!
Great blues music and great food
It jas been a while but it appears this place has gotten even better. Im updating everything to 5 stars. Service was very fast, curious and on top of things. The food was excellent. I will definitely start coming here more often.Previous review.Food and prices were good. I have to agree the service is slow. Place is empty, we are done eating and waiting on the check.... and waiting.... for a local little bar tho it is a pretty good place to drink and hang out. Not good for a quick breakfast on the way to work.
Ordered a Reuben, received a CORNED BEEF SANDWICH. Waitress was RUDE. First visit...last visit. Atmosphere was a 5 because of the company I was with
The gentleman at the front door was very welcoming and accommodated our choice to sit outside. The waitress was soon to arrive, but when we told her we just wanted drinks for the time being she got short, gave us attitude and never came back to the table to check on us. We had decided we were going to order appetizers, but she never returned. We had finished our drinks AND the pitcher of water she left at the table then had to go inside to the bar to pay for drinks. We are at the end of our 2 week road trip and decided to stop here, but never will again.
I love this place! Great spot to hang out in the Soulard area.Good food, Good drinks, Great service, Very nice staff
Parking can be a nightmare, food and service were decent. There was a band when we visited which was fun, but we moved outside on the patio so we could chat.
Friendly and really nice patio. Have come a few times for lunch. Have really enjoyed the po boys and a tasty veggie burger. Slower on the service side but not enough to take away a star--just be careful if your tight on time.
It was our first time there and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the vibe. Our server, Lisa, was very friendly and attentive. She made us feel right at home. Their bread pudding is simply amazing. The live music was entertaining and very engaging. My only suggestion is that they should leave the door leading to the back terrace open so those eating there can also enjoy the music. I highly recommend Hammertones to those visiting St. Louis.
Not bad, not amazing. probably great if you like the music and drinking scene, but I just wanted lunch. I liked my food, the french drip, but my dining companion was not thrilled with her fish and chips. The chips were actual potato chips, rather than the traditional fries. They do have free popcorn that you can serve yourself by the bathroom, so that is nice.
This place was great! Vibe is real chill, food was great, the band a fantastic! We will definitely be back next time were in St Louis!!!!
Ive been here a few times for breakfast. Figured my wife and I would try dinner time. The food was good, but the servicer was the worst. Didnt know we arrived. Then waited 20min for a check to leave. I went to the bar to pay.
Amazing dive bar. Every piece of memorabilia on the wall was earned, not store bought. My millennial team loved the atmosphere and the live music. Will go back there to hang anytime. We had some starters and they were just fine. Great place
I work nights, so I come here often around 7AM after working all night to grab some breakfast. Great casual atmosphere and the perfect place to unwind with some good comfort food. I really liked the breakfast pizza and if youre looking for a big traditional breakfast, you cant go wrong with the Hammer Platter. Very reasonably priced and the wait staff is always responsive and cheerful. One of the few places where you can grab a delicious breakfast and a cold beer at the same time!
Awesome breakfast! One of the best omelettes I’ve had. The food is made by the owners (and you can tell they care). Homemade biscuit is highly recommended as well!
Patio has great atmosphere, food is great, marg was boozy and last but certainly not least, our server Jess was the best. She had plenty of tables to take care of made sure to tend to us every chance she got and with perfect service. you can tell she works hard! She’s a keeper!!
Long established Soulard bar. Arguably the best in the whole neighborhood. The drinks flow quickly here and Blues music is top notch. Great food, great atmosphere. Soulard wouldnt be the same without this place.
Great food, fast service, quaint atmosphere. Our server was fantastic, and the location was perfect!
We ordered potato wedges as an appetizer and were expecting wedges, but what we got were simple potato skins cut in half to create smaller pieces. Wedges should still have the meat of the potato intact. But what really was disappointing was that we paid $3 to upgrade our side to roasted broccoli. The serving was one floret with all the little heads cut off. It barely covered the bottom of the bowl. The serving would have fit in a large spoon. Weve dined there a number of times, but there are other choices.
Drink was terrible. When the waitress was told after she asked how things were, they immediately said they would not refund me. Onion rings were very thickly breaded and soggy. Person playing guitar was mediocre - not worth the cover charge assigned to everyone sitting inside. Other drinks ordered and green tomatoes were good.
The quintessential Soulard experience: the building and staff have character. Biscuits and gravy were less than impressive, but the cheesy grits and Irish potatoes compensated. Above all, they had $3 mimosas when I went, which is a pretty good price for an 8 AM breakfast. They also have a good-sized patio area thats spread out enough so that smokers at the next table over are still far enough away to not be a nuisance. I love that they are open so early (6:30 AM) for that area. Would probably go back again.
Was recommended this place by a few people and decided to go there for dinner. First of all, it was very dirty and reeked of mold and cigarettes. Second off, we ordered fish and chips and it was absolutely disgusting. There was literal stale potato chips instead of fries and the fish was identical to cheap frozen fish from a grocery store. I really hate to leave a bad review but honestly it just wasn’t a good experience at all. There were also several creepy old men staring at us. At least our waiter was nice I guess…(,: maybe it would be a different experience if you were just sitting at the bar for drinks. Obviously this food was made for drunk ppl. Hoosier vibes lol
Great burger, cooked just like I asked for it, superb fries, really good. Fantastic music from the Voodoo Blues Band and visiting musicians who came to sit in and jam away the evening. Highly recommend on a Sunday evening, 4-8 PM, no admission charge, no minimum, just a great time!
Wonderful service, great environment, great music, really good food! My husband had the chicken tenders and they were absolutely incredible. I had steak with corn and potato salad, all of it was very very tasty! Dessert was great too.
Love coming here on a date with my wife!
Easily the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We had a large group and it wasn’t that busy the night we got there as majority of the guests were only ordering drinks. It should have been a sign when it took us over 45 minutes to get our first drinks but we decided to stay as we had already ordered our food. It took over an hour to get the kids a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After 2 hours, some in our party had still not received our food after re ordering and asking server multiple times. Finally after 2.5 hours we decided to leave even though 30% of ticket still did not receive food. Server still tried to charge for food we didn’t receive and when I told him I wouldn’t be paying for it, he said “that’s fine I’ll eat it, I haven’t eaten all day.”Horrible service and would definitely not recommend to anyone.
Commenting on only their breakfast because thats what I was exposed to. I am sure that this place is fantastic to many people who just have no taste buds. If you have taste buds and love and respect breakfast food, then avoid this place at all costs. It will insult any decent breakfast fan. The kitchen really does not season their biscuits and gravy and messed up oatmeal. Further, their breakfast pizza is absolutely terrible, like why did you serve me cafeteria scrambled eggs on pizza crust!? Finally, the kitchen gave us DIRTY dishes, none of us ordered hasbrowns, but we had dried hasbrowns on almost each of our plates! Please, if you have taste buds and have experienced, at least, decent breakfast, AVOID this place.
The BEST FRIED CHICKEN (Nashville hot) in the City ! Been coming here for years and was graced with this amazing meal for the 1st time today. Better than ALL the others in town. Flavorful, Hot, Juicy, just the right Heat, Great crusted Half Bird!
Always great drink specials, friendly staff & live music.Their chicken strips are the best in town. They never disappoint especially with their Nashville Hot Chicken-ish hot sauce (thinner but gets into all the nooks and crannies of their crunchy strips).
Went to listen to an rnb band called power play STL. It was pretty nice! Our food came out nice and fresh, even though it was busy. Our waiter Tim was very nice and I enjoyed him as our waiter. I will be back, Lord willing. I gave four stars due to another encounter with a waitress that could’ve been better. But, people are people.
Great neighborhood old time bar with LIVE blues music every night. Food was decent but music and beer was awesome!
Average local bar on the surface with a larger selection than some of the others surrounding it. We didnt try the food & it was pretty dead when we went in.(My previous, prior to editing, was for the other establishment we went in)
Damn good fried chicken.....Nashville Hot they way to do it! Some of the best I have every had. Been there several times and was hesitate to eat, but glad I finally did. Top off the evening with some good blues makes for a perfect evening.
EXCELLENT FOOD at great prices too! We stopped here for dinner before a Blues Game on a Monday night when a lot of other restaurants in Soulard were closed. It was a surprise hit and we will definitely be coming back!
Hammerstones was a funky good time! The food was amazing the company even more amazing and our server was really on top of all 11 of us that was seated there. Everybody enjoyed what they ordered, I left half of mine and ate it the next day and it was still really good.
We went here before the Cardinals afternoon game. The food was great and the atmosphere is nice. The shuttle is convenient, but it smells heavily of weed! We got to the game and back, so theres that!
Great blues and live music . The patio is really nice in the summer, but even in the cooler weather the indoor vibe is awesome. Food is standard bar food. Good prices and overall our first choice for a quick visit to the neighborhood bar!
Great place to go before cardinals games, there is a free shuttle! Dive bar atmosphere with live music, cheap drinks, great food. A patio. They have everything you want. You wont regret going!
Awesome place Ive been coming here for years. The service is spot on and the food is awesome. Be sure to try thier NA beer options or the drink of your choice. Often they feature live music and people dance. Ask for DeAngelo for good service!
Very good breakfast. Amazing omelette.
The food is amazing, literally everything Ive tried off the menu has been great. Some of the servers seem kind of inexperienced but overall I really enjoy the place.
We were seated outside. The waitress was very pleasant. Our wait for the food was a bit long but we did not mind, we had a good conversation! However, overall a very positive experience and the food was very good.
Was not impressed. Took literally 20 mins just to get waters. Took 30 mins for the worker to put the food order in. Another he for food to come out and it came out at different times for different people in our group. Messed up my order then cam back and said sorry we are now out of that.Drink was decent not watered down at least.
All around 5 star experience. Service was great, food was phenomenal and the Honky Tonk Happy Hour was some high quality entertainment. Ill be coming back for breakfast, Denny told me we gotta try the breakfast pizza.
Bar worker was a lady and she did an Awesome job!! I had never ordered food there before and she was helpful in taking my order. Food was decent also, drinks were reasonably priced and were easy to order.
Great atmosphere. Located in a wonderful neighborhood. Fun music venue. There is a great variety of menu options. I have yet to order anything that was a disappointment. It can get crowded in the narrow indoor area.
The food was much better than a 1. Ive rated this so low due to the young waitress my family had. I brought family from out state here for the first time. When she approached us to begin with she was extremely rude. My brother and his wife tried to overlook her behavior, but attempting to lighten the mood. He attempted humor to get a smile from the young lady. Her behavior was only worsened. My sister however wasnt able to overlook the attitude she had. We discussed her tip, due to our reception as well as the no service other than bringing our food. However we left a 20% tip. I dont believe well ever return to this establishment. Which is sad, because as I said the food was good. But if Im going to pay for something, I want be disrespected.
Visited on St. Patricks Day and was surprised to see no cover charge and it wasnt packed or overly loud. Band was good, and prices were very reasonable. Staff was very friendly as well. Would go back!
Absolutely wonderful food. We are from Springfield mo and this is the best food weve had since we got here and very reasonable prices. Awesome service 👏 thank you Jennifer for your kindness and being our waitress!!!
Tasty, serviceable menu. Great daily food specials. Fun place to play Keno or scratchers. Quality live music every day. Beautiful outdoor seating. Friendly and competent staff. This is a staple of Historic Soulard and the most complete bar in the neighborhood.
Small kind of pub atmosphere. Quick and friendly service. Big portions of food at a reasonable price.
I have never had a bad meal at this place. Now Ive only been here for breakfast so that is all I can review on. However I have had several different breakfast meals here and they have all been great. My favorite by far is the spicy soulard omelette with cheddar grits.
Pretty cool little place.
Enjoy the breakfast with terrific waitresses, Denise and Gabby. However, the unsolicited horrible, loud and inappropriate constant singing of morning janitor is such that I am not sure I would return. Many others patrons commented and agreed.
We had date night a few weeks ago. Very good food.First timers and we will return.good food.great drinks band sounded nice.Waiter gets an A.but I forgot his name.
I like this place a lot because they have plenty of good drinks and a decent food menu. The big reason to come here is definitely to listen to blues bands and enjoy the atmosphere. Theres usually sports games to watch and so many decorations collected over the years
Love this Place!! Small venue with live music daily. After dinner, my wife and I were singing and dancing with some brews. We will be back!!
Seems always to have great music on the patio. Good food and very complete bar. Friendly and comfortable.
Service was completely lacking Today. Specifically Ordered Cheddar cheese on the eggs. received American, asked about it, was told this is how we do it and then she never fixed it. Found a bug in the drink. Bar tender remade the drink you could tell all she wanted was to just go home. Long wait times to be served.Pancakes were absolutely delicious.
Hammerstones has great drink specials. Food is pretty decent and decently priced. Wouldnt recommend in the evening for the 21-35 crowd. Love their patio. You choose your seating and a waiter/waitress will approach you shortly.
Great atmosphere in historic Soulard. Theyve got a cute beer garden. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was satisfying and the cocktails were great.
Great live music venue! They have a decent menu of fairly standard bar fare, but also a few surprising offerings. Our favorite is the pretzel bites with spicy mustard dipping sauce. Also they offer a large outdoor patio and separate serving/bar area. Hammerstones is always a good choice!
Wonderful service and great food. The patio is very nice with a great atmosphere. Music is from great local musicians. I believe there is a VIP section you can rent for parties. If your in the mood for breakfast and a drink at 6:30 am M-F no problem. Give Hamerstones at try. You wont be disappointed.
I had high hopes for this place. The patio is really nice and it would be a really great regular brunch spot if the food had been edible. Nothing was good. The hashbrowns were pretty raw. It honestly seemed like someone touched them on the grill for a second and then put them on the plate. I also asked for a slice of American cheese melted over my hashbrowns and they sprinkled shredded cheddar instead. I understand that mistakes happen, but I think it irritated me because nothing at all was good. The banana walnut pancake was dry and chewy instead of fluffy. I also couldnt taste any banana, which is normally a strong flavor for me. The veggie omelet was just kind of flavorless.
I enjoy the food and service. Great music, too.
We were in St Louis for my daughters Bachelorette party & decided to have breakfast at Hammerstones as it was just a few blocks from our airbnb and they served alcohol. The food was phenomenal! I wish I would have thought to snap a picture. I had my first Dickle n a pickle which was interesting & a bloody Mary which was top notch!!! Our service was outstanding! I mean we came in with 10 rowdy 20 somethings, myself and my daughters soon to be mom & our server handled us with ease & did not get one single item wrong! She was amazing!
Great food and service!
