Sunrise Massage & Spa

I have driven by Sunrise for many years since I work and live nearby. I have been receiving regular massages at Lifetime in Frontenac which is great but at their price point it’s tough to justify on a regular basis. I decided to stop in to Sunrise just to check it out and if ok make an appointment. The lady who greeted me was very nice and I saw that an hour massage was half of what I typically pay. I asked to make an appointment. She left to speak with someone and returned to ask cash or credit. I was surprised and delighted that they could take me immediately. She let me know upfront that there would be a $2 convenience charge for credit card which I completely understand. I was lead into my room which was comfortably lighted, heated and appointed. The only request I would make is for an ankle bolster as I tend to cramp when my feet are flat. My therapist, Coco came in the room and began the massage in typical fashion. She did not speak English well but could communicate the important things like how much pressure I preferred. I would guess after 45 minutes or so of a really good massage where I fought off falling asleep and my nose running from the lymphatic release Coco left the room without saying anything. I waited for awhile and decided to look at the clock. I was guessing it was getting close to 50 minutes which at some places that’s considered an hour massage. So I got up and started to get dressed. Coco came back in the room and communicated that she wasn’t done and pointed to a basin with a towel. I laid back down and was absolutely surprised and excited by hot stone therapy! She followed this with a hot towel wipe down to remove all of the oils. She then went on to perform shiatsu and stretching for another 10 minutes before she was done. This is the type of massage I’ve only received at places like the Four Seasons and Ritz. I will say that I definitely got my money’s worth and was more than happy to tip well. And I will say that tipping was never even mentioned unlike was stated by a previous reviewer. I now have another option for massage and at this price point can justify on a more regular basis. I paid for a 1 hour body massage with a 1 hour foot massage. I havent felt this good and relaxed in a long time.The ladies at these asian massage places often rely heavily on tips for their income. I tip $10 per half hour. They are worth it and it is expected.Massage is hard work.

The massage and ambiance were great! Had to pay for services prior to massage (big no no for me). They barely speak English, difficult to communicate; however, they had NO problem asking for a tip. Charged $2.00 for using credit card. Followed me outside to my car because I refused to leave a tip because she asked for one! Not the quality of service I’m accustom too! Never again!!!!!

I called them on 8/16/23. And was 5 mini down the road. I spoke to the lady she said to come by for appointment. I made it there in 5 minutes went to front desk and the lady says, whoever took your call she don’t understand English. This is bad business and a waste of my time. If I arrive to appointment ON TIME you are supposed to be ready for service. I’m so tired of the community in Asian massage. They lie and people waste their gas and time and make appointments and when you arrive it becomes unavailable or they say I’m sorry. Maybe try back in a hour. This is poor business practice and people should not have to do business this way.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive & quick massage with little to no appointment time this is your place.You can usually just walk in and get a chair.I get the neck & shoulder massage.

I have been to this place three times. After my first massage I requested a specific person who when I got there the second time was “out of town”. I wasn’t even offered the common courtesy to receive a call, I was just thrown in with a different person. My third and last experience was the icing on the cake. As someone else has mentioned in their review, the lady at the front desk literally bullies you into paying a $20 tip. Very rude and uncomfortable and has caused me to seek out other businesses where I’m not being forcefully coerced into paying a $20 tip after every service. I want to feel relaxed after I pay for services rendered, not uncomfortable and disrespected. This completely soured my experience.

Incredible massage, good prices, basic relaxing atmosphere, language barrier made making the appointment a little lengthy, but were able to work me in for a same day appointment. So thankful! I have always used the massage chain salons in the past, but they are always booked and I can never get an appointment when I need it most. Consider Sunrise. I will be going there again.

I’m only giving 1 star because I had to, otherwise I’d give zero stars! Poor quality. Felt like the massage therapist didn’t have any experience whatsoever. Not deep enough. Unprofessional environment. She left me at least 5 times to answer the phone and talk to her co worker. She stopped 10min early which was fine because I couldn’t relax and it didn’t feel good at all. She took at least 10min out of my 60min scheduled time to handle business like answering the phone. So my total massage time was approx 40min instead of 60min. I get massages frequently so I know how it should be. Worst massage ever!!! I’ll never return.

If you like massages where they try to get money from you the whole massage this is the place. Also the women are 90 years old! Do not go there!! Terrible

The massage is really great here. But I wish they would just charge regular prices. They charge you lower prices than a regular massage parlor, but then lightweight bully you for a big tip at the end. “Tip me $20 dollar” she says. I was going to give her $15, then the lady at the front desk.. says “ no you should give her $20!” I gave her the $20 because it felt like she was probably getting slave wages on the backend. The way she kept begging me was so sad. And for this place to be in a classy neighborhood and have that kind of business etiquette is crazy to me!

I get massages at least once a month at various places. I’ve been to the Sunrise in Manchester, Mo numerous times and have gotten couple massages there. I called the Sunrise Spa in Olivette on a Sat to reserve a hour long couple massage and was told that was too far in advance and to call back Sun or Mon. I called back on Sun and it was confirmed that I would be receiving a hour long couple massage at 3pm on Mon. We arrived around 2:55pm on Mon and was told they had no rooms big enough for both of us to experience a true couples massage and that they had a walk in so only one of us could get a massage at that time and the other had to wait at least 30 mins before another massage person was called in. I let my lady go and then waited till 3:40pm to get a massage. The massage lady did not understand English or speak it too well. I kept asking for deep tissue massage and she had to ask another lady to interpret me asking for a deeper and harder massage. She still didn’t go much deeper. She made a mistake and took out one of my stud earrings and took time out my massage to find it on the floor. The table was so low that my bent fingers touched the floor and was stepped on a couple of times. When I got out my massage at 4:20 which wasn’t a full hour I paid the full amount plus tip. I asked my lady how was her massage and she said her massage person kept getting on her phone and couldn’t understand her telling her she wanted a deeper massage as well. Horrible experience and we will never set foot and pay for the worse service you can get as a customer. I wish I could have given a negative rating, because a 1 star is way too high.

My girlfriend called and made an appointment for us to get two hour deep tissue massages at 2:00 pm. We arrived and was greeted by a lady who had us fill out a form and request payment in advance and I promptly paid her and we were then taken to two separate rooms.My therapist started my massage face down and began a very soft rubbing NOT deep tissue and had to leave the room 5 times to speak to whomever something I have never experienced in my several decades of getting massages all over the world.I felt the lady had no professional massage training and it was a complete waste of time and money and my girlfriend stopped her massage 15 minutes early as she had enough of this amateur massage and we will never go back.

This is my fourth time coming here, no issues in the past. The foot massage itself was great but they tried to jack the price up at the end when we paid. The prices are clearly written on a clipboard. When we paid, they added 7$ to the service we got. I would suggest paying first if you chose to go here. I won’t be back.

Very unprofessional, had me to pay first and tip first.....then begged me for more tip money before she started🥺,when she finally started she kept leaving the room, she left the message 4 times to do I don’t know what. She didn’t give me the full hour I paid for. She got that first and last visit out of me but never again, a coworker recommended this place to me, I’ve had much better massages. I usually go and read the reviews before I do business with any place, but my coworker was ranting and raving about how she liked it.....I now know she’s inexperienced in getting massages, this lady at Sunrise has had no schooling or poor training on how to massage.....anyone can set up shop if this is standard😳

Went and paid for foot massage $45 for one hour..They take your payment before your services which I didnt like. They had me soak my feet in hot water for 20mins and massage was 40mins. I didnt pay for a hot water soak I paid for a massage! Very misleading advertising! I will not be back!

Prices were competitive and thats where anything good ends. The pressure was excessive. I called in and booked for hour and a half and at the end of an hour the woman said all finish. I wasnt allowed to take off my dress, so had the massage in my dress. The woman barely touched my skin, she always had a towel with exception of when she massaged my head. I am mad at myself for not leaving as soon as I knew I would have to have what was suppose to be a full massage in my clothes! I believe they were prejudice both because of my size and ethnicity. It was a painful experience emotionally and physically.

I always have great experiences here. The girl I see is very petite and I have no idea how she gives such an amazing deep tissue massage, but she does! They always give a full hour from the time they start (not from when your appointment was like some other places) and I would recommend them to anyone.

Absolutely non-professional service. Lady who did massage to me did not know in what direction massage should be performed. I asked for my neck and knees massage, but the receptionist translated or explained to the massage lady who did not speak English at all it as a back and legs massage. I needed by signs and some massage of her try to explain her and receptionist what I needed, so not only their massage skills but their level of English is not acceptable for health professionals. Finally, all she did was performing skin pressure as hard as she could (without understanding where muscles are and where the lymph nodes located ). This way of massage can harm human being badly, in my strong opinion they are dangerous to peoples health. They know it and charge people upfront - do not fall on their advertisement.

I estimate that Ive probably had between 250 to 300 massages in my life because my back stays pretty messed up from sitting in an office chair for over 35 years now. Sunrise is my main place to go but I have a backup and Ive been to other places around St. Louis. Yesterday Lili gave me one of the top 3 massages Ive ever had. Massages arent always pleasurable if you have back problems especially if youre already in pain when you get there. You can tell when someone knows what theyre doing when they spend extra time on your problem area without you telling them where it is. This was not my first massage from her but it keeps getting better and better.

Great! Just had a massage, this older lady was good with her hands. I had stiff neck and she really worked the knots on my shoulder/neck. Very professional. Their Massage is slightly different than others the strokes are different but its good if you are seriously looking for muscle relief.

Update after 1year:I continue to get massages at Sunrise. My only complaint is that the receptionist does not speak very good English. She is also abrupt when interacting, and comes off a little rude. When I make an appointment, I always have to repeat and clarify what I want more than once. Then, when I get there, the person giving the massage is unclear of the massage time and where I need the most attention. It was much better a yr ago, as they had a competent English speaking receptionist making appointments and communicating with the staff. I still feel the massages are high quality and I will continue to come for massage, but it is a little frustrating due to the language barriers.

I had a one hour deep tissue massage tonight at Sunrise. Lily was amazing. This was my first professional massage, so I may not have much perspective, but it was a much better one than any girlfriend of mine ever gave me. I went in determined not to have any expectations, and I found the experience beautiful. It was professional, but at the same time felt far more intimate than I expected. We joked, we laughed, and had fun. It was great. The touch of another human being can be a healing experience. And it was.

I had a positive experience with Sunrise Massage and Spa. The service was great, the lady at the front desk whos name I forget was personable. My deep tissue massage by Wendy was thorough. She really got into my trouble spots and worked out those tight areas. I highly recommend Sunrise Massage & Spa!

This was one of the worst experiences of my life.I left that place crying, frustrated, and in more pain than I came with. If I could give 0 stars I would.Im going to start with the worst part. I always leave my underwear on when I get a massage. In general, I am very uncomfortable with people touching me and Im always a little nervous at the beginning of a massage. Knowing Im with a professional always helps. This woman was whipping the sheets off me left and right, exposing way more of my body than I am ever comfortable with. At one point, she started to PULL MY UNDERWEAR DOWN. I couldnt believe it. I didnt know what to do. Then later she began to PULL IT OFF EVEN MORE, like she was trying to take my underwear off. In NO WAY is that EVER necessary or acceptable. Im shaking just writing about it. She touched me in places I was extremely comfortable about. I eventually had to abruptly turn over and tell her that my undergarments need to stay where I left them, as I left them on for a reason. She said OK, but looked at me like I was crazy, and as I was pulling them back up she reached to touch them again and PULL THEM BACK DOWN, so I repeated myself with a more stern tone. At one point her hand was caressing the sides of my breasts as well. I seriously felt borderline harassed. I was too nervous to get up and leave even though its all I wanted to do. I wanted to cry the entire time.The massage itself, if you could even call it that, was God awful. The woman very obviously did not know what she was doing and made no effort to seem like she did. She put extreme pressure on very random parts of my body which left me in a lot of pain, and the rest of it was like someone just slabbed some oil on and randomly started rubbing. At no point did anything she did feel good. Clearly knew nothing of the human body or where muscles were.I went in because I had an awful migraine which I told them multiple times and they seemed to understand. She proceeded to scratch my head like a dog LITERALLY. Like with her nails and everything. Then started to KARATE CHOP my head?? Needless to say, i left with a worse migraine than before. I dont know on what level a person would ever think that would be good for someones head.There is a huge language barrier, which usually is not a problem for me as I can find alternate way of expressing my needs, but these people did not want to hear anything I said and at one point started talking to me in their language (I think it was Indian) like I would understand what she was saying on any level. That was so incredibly bizarre.There was also a moment with payment where I left NO TIP, but the thing messed up so she redid it and insisted on me choosing my tip choice with her watching. It was extremely uncomfortable and I felt obligated to tip the minimum which was 15% which in no way did they deserve.I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE AND I HOPE THAT NO ONE WILL EVER EXPERIENCE THE HORRORS I DID FROM THIS PLACE

Worst Massage of my life. I called and made an appointment for a 1.5 hour long massage. I informed the lady that my upper back, tops of shoulders and neck on my right side were extremely tense and that is where I would like to be massaged. Due to a HUGE language barrier she did not massage there and I kept telling her to go there. I even pointed to it, took her hand and did everything I could but she did not. Now I have severe hip dysplasia and I told her to avoid my hips and all she did was hound on them. I was screaming and she still did not stop. She was just yelling bad, bad, bad and pinning me down putting her whole weight on them. At the end when I was crying from pain she grabbed my hand and whipped it all over her face and neck and said tired. Yes ladies and gentlemen she used my hand as a towel. DO NOT GO HERE!!

I went into this experience with no expectations. I had read all of the reviews I could find and saw some that were good and some that were not so stellar talking about an owner change etc etc. All I knew was that I had just come off of running in the Go! St Louis half marathon and wanted a massage. My normal place is closed Mondays so I searched and found Sunrise.I will say that the language barrier addressed in other reviews is definitely there. I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance and the nice lady on the phone just kept saying ok leaving me not quite sure if my appointment was made or not.I showed up Monday April 11th for the Day Lily which consists of a 1 hour full body massage and 1 hour foot massage. My appointment that I was worried about had been made and I was lead to a back massage room. They dont give you any instructions but as Ive had massages before I knew that I was to disrobe and get under the sheet on the table. A couple minutes later my masseuse came in and what followed was pure heaven. She initially asked if I wanted a light, medium or hard touch. I asked to start with medium and wed adjust if we had to. Well no adjustments were needed and she was able to take every knot and kink out of my body. After an hour had passed I put my clothes back on and went to get my foot massage. Oh my!!!! It was so relaxing that I dozed off a couple of times.PURE relaxation and a GREAT price.And to top it off, my masseuse was standing outside the front door with 2 umbrellas and walked me to my car as it had started raining while I was being pampered.Will definitely come back.

It was Not a professional massage....It was a rub.I wanted a 90 min massage & got 75 min. rub. She spend 55 minutes on my back with her forearm going up and down my back. Today my back it hurting. There were asian women in a room chatting, Not Very relaxing. Dont waste your money. Not truly sure what goes on there, Heard a man in the next room moan. Not worth It!

No clear structure. No soothing music for relaxation. My therapist answered phone call during my massage and stepped away for about 10mins! This was after she bullied my fiancé For a 40% tip before services.This place is cheep so I always knew what I was getting into with this. But that was the last straw. Save your money and don’t walk in the dirty shop.

Paid for a $50 hour massage and the lady barely did anything....The service wasnt good so I didnt leave a tip. (Normally I always tip whenever I go somewhere if the service is good) as I was leaving the lady that gave me the massage and the receptionist stopped me asking me to leave a tip.. I said I didnt like the massage..she said the worker needs a tip. Ummm I word of advice..youre not suppose to ask for a tip.. thats rude and unprofessional.. Also, they make you pay before they start the massage and she tried to get me to tip before I even got the massage. Who does that?? A tip is not required. You are suppose to earn your tip!!

I paid for a $100 couples massage for me and my wife on Valentines day. The Spa was busy this day, and couldnt get us in for a couple of hours. They gave me and my wife a $100 gift certificate written on a business card at their front desk, and the associate signed it. When we tried to come back and use the certificate months later, they acted as if they could not accept the certificate and even tried to send us to their Manchester location. The Manager was called and pretended that she didnt speak English? They even told us that the Business was under new Management ( The Sign Outside still states Sunrise Day Spa) and they couldnt accept the certificate. $100 down the drain and my wife still didnt get her massage. Thanks for nothing.

Incredible job at deep tissue massage while working out muscle and joint tension- their focus is more on healing than sleepy relaxation, though Im sure you could ask for that. I starting going for prenatal care and have continued to go for over a year. They are amazing! Also the lowest price in the area.

I am also very particular about my massages and when i say I want it deep tissue that is exactly what I mean, I have tried several massages around town and none know the meaning of Deep tissue.At sunrise when i ask the ladies for a hard massage that is exactly what I get for the full hour, I love these ladies as they always give me an amazing massage and i always leave feeling like i have had a great massage. WELL WORTH THE $50

Sakura gave me an excellent massage. One of the best Ive had. She is very pretty and sweet. I felt very afterwards. The place very clean. Customer service is very friendly. Pleasant like heaven. Wendy gives best massages too.

If I could give less than a one star rating I would. Just got done getting my 30 minute massage. More like 20 unenthusiastic, annoying, awkward minutes of upper back only, same spot rub down. If she was polishing a hardwood table, she would of rubbed a hole through the damn thing. Wont ever visit there again. Hopefully the owner reads these but doubt it.

This is the place to go the ladys in here are a god send. They didnt rush and literally worked every knot out of my husband and my body. Im bring my kids next. Its definitely a family affair!!!

Yall out here bad mouthing this place cuz yall confusing it with another. I went yesterday and li li was amazing. My backs never been this relaxed, i do roofing for a living. Always bent over to clean up or install shingles, VERY hard labor. Its intensive for your back and legs and she did an amazing job. Yall just crazy.

Tried to call to ask for prices for a 1 hour to 1.5 massage and lady hung up on me. Tried calling back thinking we just got disconnected but no answer very unprofessional.

Don’t understand or speak English.. Found stains on sheets, had to request clean linen.. We was told to remove clothes except for underwear but for some reason my 12 year old son was told to take off all clothes including boxers.. he deserves some type of privacy.. on the way out we was rushed for tips.. not only that they demanded how much tip was required.. will not return!

They beat my sister and i to where we were bruised we wanted a relaxing neck and back light massge they gave both of us deep tissue and gave my sister hot rocks without asking she hated it we paid for it b4 but when we left they wanted tip or they will do their own on ur credit card i hated this place will never go back

I have been using this spa for about two years to ease arthritis pain with fabulous results. The staff is always courteous and very professional.

To harass for a tip is unprofessional! Can’t NO ONE tell me what I need to tip for a service. I’ve been twice to this establishment and BOTH times was harassed for a tip! I 👏🏽wiil👏🏽not go back and I’m advising to the world not to go either💯

They only make black ppl pay up front the lady at the front desk tried harassing me for 20 more dollars in tips this place needs to be investigating to see if the workers are illegal I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone
