Hotel Salem-Roanoke I-81 (Listing Partner)

I was awaken at 10:35AM to check out when after further investigation, I had indeed already booked to stay another night, online.. the owners are rude and borderline harass you. I was in bed, no clothes, they came in and cut on all the lights, cut off the air conditioner, kept the door wide open and kept demanding I pay the new price of 65.00$ or leave, all 25 minutes before posted check out.. theyre futile attempts to charge you outrageously in person do not fly with me.. I have yet to receive my 50$ deposit as well and I am looking to press fraud charges as to they have NO reason to keep my deposit. This place needs be shut down but only because of the management. The rooms are decent, the location is far out but not too bad. Its the service of the rude owners that makes this place a failure. They need to learn how to treat people. Its sickening.. I would not recommend this place to even be used as a morgue with these owners.. theyre horrendous. I will never give them another penny of mine, I will sleep on the street before I pay these people another dollar ever again. if they know youre in a bind, THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. Its pathetic.. Beware people.

This hotel is staff is on drugs, he would have not let us get a room for one. Secondly the actual person that was there said we already booked online when we never even booked anything online. My Thoughts was clear that this hotel doesn’t need any more customers? Seems like any ovo hotels are barely getting anything right for traveling customers. I highly suggest elsewhere then here.

This dude is something else. I booked a room with 2 beds for $57. He gave me a room with 1 and when I said something and showed him the receipt that proved I booked a room with 2 beds his answer was no, i can refund you and you can pay $95 for 2 beds DO NOT come to this place

Bad service, ill never come back again, they canceled my reservation cuz they wanted to make more money, and didn’t gave me a complete refund.

Avoid this place. They charge a $50 deposit when you arrive and they are the worst rooms around. They look nothing like the pics on their page. The comforter had burns on it and the sheets and pillows had long black hairs on them and crumbs in the bed. Hadn’t changed them in who knows how long. Dirty, and overall nasty rooms! This place is horrible!

I tried to book a room here. It said pets welcome online but there are signs at the motel no pets allowed. they denied me a room by the week for a long term stay because of my registered medical service dogs! They told me that’s why they denied me a long term room!!!! They will allow medical dogs one day at a time only!

Its like they say about getting what you pay for. Dont expect much! In fact, expect even less than that.The other reviews are correct - if you can spare a bit of extra cash, maybe go somewhere else.Our experience : the non-smoking room we got reeked of years worth of cigarette smoke.Sheets smelled strongly of some kind of toxic chemical, to the point where I had to request new ones. And then they argued with me about replacing the sheets!No phone in the room so you have to physically go to the front desk with your request, which really isnt a big deal but modern society is lazy so...No closet in the room I stayed in, although I think some of their other rooms might have a clothes rack at least.Spackle all over the walls - not that that matters, but it just goes to show they dont care about the small touches.Not very clean, but thats not very surprising. All in all, if saving money is the main concern then book but if you want cleanliness and getting a little value for your money then AVOID.I will say that for the most part, staff was friendly if a little hard to understand sometimes. Also I enjoyed watching the birds outside. Got to see a Northern mockingbird (I think) and an eagle! And Dixie Caverns is down the street, thats pretty cool.

Old fashion, where you actually get a key like years ago. This means you have to give the key back to check out. Being right off a major highway you’d think guests checking out early is common. I stood outside ringing their darn bell for more than 30 minutes and no one showed up. I had to drop the key in the mailbox by the window. Called and left a message to please return call do I know they got the key. No one called. After I completed my six hour trip I called them back. They got my message and we’re too busy to call me. Rude man then said we got your key do what do you want? I wouldn’t stay here again if it were free

Not at all what I expected.Very dark room, with the lights on.It wasnt a smoking room, but had definitely taken place there.Bathroom was not at all acceptable.The price at $80, for what they offered, was way out of line.Im actually camping my way across the country, and it was raining that night. Point being, Im pretty comfortable with primitive conditions - so Im pretty tolerant, this was pretty sketchy..

This is the Worst Place I have ever Gone // Very Dirty Room // Even owner & staff is very Rude // They even dont know that the policy is for Checking // I have booked a Room for 3:00 PM check in as per there policy but when i reach there they told that the checkin time is change now at 4 PM & ask for extra money to check in Early // They are doing Fraud with us.

Room was clean and check in was easy but the room smelled incredibly musty and stale due to being so closed up and air conditioning off. Luckily it was late and we were exhausted so we did our best to ignore it and went to bed. Beds were at least comfortable.

I like it. It has that classic look to it that I like, single story layout. Very nice owners. Very accommodating with allowing me to park my truck/trailer and have a dog with me. Right off the highway. I showed up right as they were cooking dinner and complimented the aroma, lets just say it was delicious!!! I will definitely stay here everytime Im in that area!!!

Not clean. Not up to date. Run down. No electric outlets in bathroom. Run down outside. Needs paint and weeds pulled. Could not believe we we staying here when we pulled in. Pictures on website do not match current room we were given or outside. Would not recommend staying here!

This is a hotel with a purpose. You get a room, a TV and shower. Its not glamorous, but its clean, the owner was super friendly, it was quiet. Im happy to come back if Im in the area.

A safe place to stay. Price is very good for the location. Amenities in the room are good for the price. Person at the front desk was friendly and offered us free tea in the morning. It was a pleasant surprise. Tea was tasty and I had two cups of it. I think he was the owner but not sure.

Caution!! Totally different from pictures on web site!!! This should be fraud.- Stinky room air, towels and bed.- TV doesnt work.- Old and noisy AC.- Cracked and nasty bathroom.- Worth less than half of fee.

Listen, when you pull off the highway looking for anywhere to sleep for a few hours on a long car ride, youre not expecting to find the Ritz of Salem, VA. I had reasonable expectations for this place, and it surpassed them. The room was very clean (even the microwave was spotless!), the bed showed no signs of bed bugs and the linens were clean, and the bathroom was clean. What more could you ask for out of a road-side motel? The Blue Jay exceeded my expectations.

It was very basic but there were no bedbugs, everything worked and the service was good. It’s $50 and is the closest to the AT trailheads so it was great for us…will use again

Ever want to know what it is like to stay at an original Route 66 Motel? Come to VA I-81 exit 132, follow signs to dixie caverns, and look for the sign for the blue jay motel, it is very clean, NO Roches, NO bedbugs. Very clean, just give the hot water time to reach your room, after all the place is 65+ years VINTAGE! And for those who know me, Cactus Jack on Amazon, know I show NO Favoritism, the cost here for one night was $62.00 for two and one king size bed with a serta mattress. Free wifi, flat screen TV with cable service, good parking in front of your room at ground level. We had room 102.

This is a piece of junk ..today I rented a room for one night because I looked around and only found this mousetrap..for the same price as a little more expensive than what I paid at the hotel La Quinta inn ..Its 10:30 pm on September 22 and Im out of the Motel I couldnt sleep because I started to itch the body the bathrooms are horribly dirty the toilet even had dried blood here I leave some photos... please dont rent this Motel... I think its very expensive...for the price its a steal

This motel is very nice my old man and i love it. Its peaceful. And the owner is great hes very nice my old man went to office for coffee and he said that no one drinks coffee but give him 10 mins and hell have us some and he sure did. Id definitely recomend this motel to any one. 5 + STARS.

Whether youre trying to go east or west north or south if youre coming through this part of town this hotel is a fun comfortable little spot with owners that truly care about their guests and give you the full old school motel feeling service with a smile on their face beautiful clean comfortable rooms and Im talking about beds that you can just drift away in the price is absolutely fantastic so do not miss out on this little piece of Americana if youre going through the area to yourself the favor and have yourself a rest I will be a lifetime customer of this location as I travel around the world this place is endorsed by the Gypsy!!!!!

My friend just called me the motel and said it is not very clean and the door does not lock but has a chain????????? OY! And they are charging what he paid for a nice hotel ($62 per night).

Inhospitable receptionist, heating and water that takes forever to become hot, pillows made of stone. $50/ night/2 people seems too much for such level of comfort.

I broke down in the parking lot in 90 degree weather...they dont speak very good English...no waiting room no bathroom no drink machine not even a drink of water...was told couldnt leave my car until I could have someone to come and get it they would call the law...I am a cardiac care patient and Im disabled...you make your own choices...

Very nice motel after a long day of traveling they have all facilitys like coffe in the morning. Well made motel comfortable beds and clean.

This motel is so freaking nasty. It had freaking bed bugs and roaches and my kids got bite. So who ever was planning on staying there please dont go there.

Bathroom door doesnt close,the fake hard wood has bubbles in them.almost feels like a trampoline.the floors are softer than the beds.everthing is 20 years out dated.the free WiFi has 1 bar.walls are made of plaster.paint most likely has large amounts of lead in them.the beds are made out of old shelves from drift wood on i81.if you are from the area or have drive there the are and had lost some furniture than most likely it here.

Discusting!!!!! We checked in for the night in Roanoke, VA within a hour of being there we found a roach and bed bugs. We immediately left. WARNING to all travelers DONT GO HERE

It was the right price for me to get a couple hours of sleep, but also looks like it could be the perfect setting for a horror movie. Luckily I survived the night unscathed.

Booked hotel. Arrived at hotel and they had no rooms available. Front desk was the worst of any business I’ve come across in my life.

Well the blue Jay motel is rite next to Dixie Caverns and the Roanoke river and I have had a good time.

$95 a night for a tiny little room. Wifi didnt work. Room was clean at least.

It was dirty the smell walking into bldg.. We got back in our car and searched for another hotel..

The room was relatively small as with the bathroom was it worth it for the price I paid for my visit.

They are abosive indus. They want to charge 168 dollars per night in that crummy hotel. They do not respect reservations and serve you reluctantly. I wouldnt recommend it at all.
