Not a good place to go if youre a furry or a pup. They literally will harass you to not wear your suit/gear and security will be very rude about it. Will not return. Id advise the same for my furry and pup friends. Total party killer this bar is.
I dont know it started out kind of dicey the door guy tried to cheat US make us pay double the bartender made up for that kind courteous polite quick the music and the atmosphere was awful they need to get rid of whoever they got DJing over there and find a decent one and get some decent door people
Actual gay bar! Loved seeing women making out in the corner. Music was poppin, loved the DJ. Bartenders were soooo nice and explained everything thoroughly.
Overall: this place does not accept cards (you have an ATM that doesnt always work), music was nostalgic (2010s but nothing great to dance on - mostly bad music and transitions) and the drinks use cheap alcohol (youll pretty much get sick). The low quality of this place is concerning. If you go there you might feel like partying before.
Come with cash and small change. Beers on tap were fine. Loved the throwbacks and everyone singing along. Patio and dance floor were crowded but you could usually find a spot to chill in both. It serves a diverse crowd and does a pretty great job at it. Just remember no re entry.
This place is great on weekdays and has such friendly staff. On the weekends it becomes overrun with straight people. If you like being shoved around by straight women on a Friday or Saturday night then absolutely go here.
Good place for a cheap drinks for happy hour
So late with this review but I couldn’t remember the name of this place! But 2 years ago for my 24th birthday my sister and I went here for my birthday, it was meant to be a big group of us but everyone flaked last minute (story of my life). My wedding got called off 1 month before my 24th birthday, (our wedding was meant to be 2 days after my birthday) so my sister and i still decided we’re gonna make the hour and half drive to SF anyway after our nephews birthday party, we got to SF around 7pm we went on google and just looked up “clubs in SF”. Then we found this place, so we hopped in the uber and headed over. I think we stood in line for a good hour or so before being let in. While in line we made friends with some people and we stayed together all night. We had told them we were out for my birthday, and so they insisted to buy the first round. We danced and drank all night and overall had an amazing time. The entire place sang me happy birthday at midnight and honestly it made a bad birthday one of my most memorable. 10/10 Toad Hall. I hope to see you this year for my 26th birthday!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This bar used to be cool, not anymore. Staff are super rude with their costumers. I had such a bad experience yesterday. Basically, the security attacked my friend for caring a sparkling water bottle outside of the bar. He literally grabbed it from his hands and broke in front of the bar… not even advertised him it wasn’t allowed, instead, decided to “be as aggressive as possible”. There are better bars in San Francisco, definitely not coming back.
The place is clean and the staff are kind. I suspect this bar is tap only rather than shelf. The have limited selections including but not limited to no blenders, or fancy drinks. They also don’t use appropriate glasses associated with right kind of drinks. Simple style. Main focus limited selection but fast ordering times.
Im not sure how Toad Hall got its name but its up-n-coming in the Castro nightlife scene. This bar is pretty open and always plays decent music. The bartenders from Badlands frequent this spot as they are both owned by one person. If you smoke or dont mind the smell you can check out the back covered patio area with a bar so that youre not dealing with the overcrowded entryway. The stage on the dance floor is only for the brave and/or drunk but it makes it a little easier for everyone else in the bar to watch and laugh as people bump and grind. The music videos are great so check out lady Gaga whenever her videos play or Lady Tatas on her premiers.
Small space, nothing spectacular. Caters to Pop music/videos with a very tiny dance area. Patio is technically for smokers but open enough its nice unless super crowded. Bartenders were friendly and prompt.
Such a great place all around! Awesome selection of drinks at reasonable prices and they serve pretty quick! They have a cute little dance floor, and karaoke on Tuesdays! They also have a nice spacious patio if youre the smoker type! Bartenders are amazing!!!
Classic Castro gay bar. Nice outdoor patio but very smoky -- great if youre a smoker, but youll go home smelling like smoke either way. Usually pretty great drink specials earlier on in the evenings. Around a $3 cover on weekends.
One of my favorite spots in the Castro due to the atmosphere. Its a bar, but has a dance floor and nice area to chill outside. That gives the flexibility to drink and chat or go and dance it out if one of your favorite tunes comes on!
Fun place for pop music and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights and karaoke on other nights. Usually a $5 cover on weekends, more for special events (Pride, etc.). And massive update: THEY ACCEPT CARDS NOW!! I was shocked when I saw the sign that read $10 minimum for cards; one of the bartenders told me its been in effect for about 3 weeks, so theres that.
David, this bartender, is always smiling when he conducts his job. I am very pleased to be a patron here. Thank you for showing me such a fun time. Great atmosphere, good vibes. Also, Wess, the bouncer, is a sweet guy. Awesome vocals for karaoke! Karaoke on Sunday, aaaayyyyy!!! LA Carlos is cool too! :)
I love the back deck here but theres way way too many smokers back there so non smokers are pretty much restricted to the front end of the bar. Overall this is a cool place to dance and have a drink with friends.
Very nice place to just socialize with a small group. The back patio is always filled and fun. They have a bar out back too. Drinks are cheap and definitely hit up happy hour. Which is until 8pm or 9pm. Depending on the day !
Nice place to grab a drink with locals and reconnect with friends. The bar was featured in Looking the movie and always have good vibes. They have a plenty of space and patio on the back. The place could be very loud and busy on weekends but always fun.
I dont often drink in the Castro, but when I do, I come to Toad Hall! Great drink specials will get you loaded for $10, and they have a spacious patio out back with its own bar. Great day-drinking spot, nights are always a dance party. Their DJ plays music videos for all the tracks, which I havent seen anywhere else and is surprisingly fun!
A great bar thats always lit up and has a party going. Small dance floor with a little disco ball, but what more do you need? Oh, strong drinks? They have that too. Little patio in the back took (past the restrooms) provides a nice breathe of fresh air
Great happy hour. Great place to have a good time with friends, 90s to 2000s music, hip-hop, R&B, and pop. Good crowd, nice bar tenders. They have a patio for smokers. Really fun karaoke night on Sundays
Atmospheres is trendy and young. Drinks were good, outside space for smokers and another bar. I only give it 4 stars because of unfriendly strangers, literally a girl wanted to fight with me for being in her way when her friends had no problem going by.
Toad Hall is one of the larger gay bars in the Castro. I like to come here for the large patio. Crowd is mixed. They have 2 bars. Dance floor is large. Drinks are strong and they offer happy hour most nights. Large mens bathroom outside.
Its our Cheers. The drinks are strong and happy hour is actually happy. You can make great friends here, just join a table, any table, and the guys here will welcome you to engage. Just be smart and witty, and youll blend right in. Stupidity is not tolerated.
Mediocre bar with quite ridiculous staff guards. Asking my 74 year old mother for ID to prove her age was a bit much. Also, I was asked at 50... Common sense needed?
I really liked this bar! but I was very badly treated last time!! bar guys very nice but the rest very rude! They dont talk they just push people out! I was pushed and my bottle of drink fell on the floor and it broke…I used to like this bar, but I dont go back to this place anymore!!Horrible!!!!
Small dance floor w/disco ball light, ample seating inside & space to walk around. A few outdoor small tables w/ stools & large tv screens to watch videos. Friendly cute bartender!
Great music and amazing dance floor. Great for couple beers before going crazy.I love the patio and the mixed gender bathrooms!!
Four men of color (predominantly of African-American descent and none under 40) approached the bar and were asked for our IDs at about 7:00pm on a Friday night. This is/was not alarming at the time. Subsequently and upon closer observation, it was noted the doorman was not performing this duty uniformly with certain patrons and especially with those who were not people of color. The possibility exists the doorman was familiar with certain patrons and not others. I mentioned this to members of the bar staff and informed the doorman he should be performing the ID check indifferently to all patrons to avoid the appearance of selective admittance. He became defensive and said he always performs said action with all patrons. I was/am disappointed with the bars reaction and left. In these times, when it appears certain people of color may be treated in/unequally, I would recommend some sensitization to the staff at this bar.
Vety casual gay bar with a 2-for-1 Happy Hour, friendly staff, a back patio and a diverse crowd. Great for after-work drinks with friends. I go often.
Toad hall is another one of these seemingly chain style bars in the castro. It really has that kind of grungy yet familiar feel Ive come to expect in the area. THe drinks are average price but the outdoor area is the gem of this location.
Great happy hour literally 2 for one, Fun crowd friendly bar staff one of the few smoking patios. Video and music. Great people watching.
Great music selections, super cheap happy hour specials, and friendly bartenders. Centrally located in the Castro, too, so really easy to find food for when your inebriated buzz hits.
I appreciate the clientele and the fundraising events, but the bar/bus staff are less than friendly. I’m pretty sure the goal is to make people feel welcome at your establishment...not the opposite.
My Castro hangout. 2 for 1 specials, friendly bartenders, good dancing some nights, spacious patio, multiple restrooms in decent order, music varies but is usually enjoyable.
Trashy but fun! Great place to hang out with a group of friends and dance the night away. Always playing good music and the bartenders are always friendly.
Its not what it used to be. The music is not loud enough, you can hear peoples conversations. The dj is so bad. Music transitions, as mentioned below, are terrible and confusing. But there isnt much options out there sadly.
Happy Hour! Buy one regular price drink and second drink is $1. Outdoor Patio, small but cool. Friendly Bartender!
Always empty even on 2 for 1 drink nights... But a wonderful open air patio... 😕 They allow smoking out there... So you decide..!
Very fun place to hangout in the Castro. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. Cant wait to go back when Im in town.
As a first time visitor to San Fran, this club really presented itself with fresh drinks and a great atmos. Suggestion do nor wear a hat or jacket here, you will loose it.
One of the bad experience in castro last night!! They charge too much money for door and no in and outs, very rude staffs! Which killed the whole vibe of the night!!
Fun and enjoyable. Karaoke nights are the best there
Cute, queer friendly spot with music videos and top 40. Crowd is young and attractive, but the music and liquor selection seems to be targeted for the college demographic.
It was on Saturday. The bar was so crowded and I could barely walk. The inside terrace was very nice, and you can smoke if you are a smoker.
Awesome venue to get a drink. Bartenders are friendly and genuine, and patrons are usually smiling. Good vibes.
Somewhat legendary gay bar in the Castro. If you like to dance, smoke, drink, hang out with friends and look at guys, this is the place for you.
Would be a much better place if the back patio was non-smoking AND they get rid of the terrible puke smell that is constantly wafting through the inside area near the dance floor.
Had a great time! Sat in the back outside was super cool staff was kinda and respectful, took my straight friend and we both will be coming back again
If youre planning to Karaoke make sure to be prepared to be waitlisted for a couple hours. Tuesdays can get pretty packed!
The DJ is so ruuuuude omg never coming back. Terrible music choice and would never take a suggestion and would also have a terrible attitude to clients!
Festive neighborhood lounge with small dance floor, friendly staff and crowd. Leans toward younger set with urban dance DJs.
I very love every cocktail here !!! Especially happy hour!! 2 4 1
My go to starting bar. The back area is a little quieter than most bars and actually allows people to chat comfortably.
Great Happy Hour Specials and atmosphere. Only downside is bathrooms are terribly dirty and gets worst throughout the night.
All around great place to go with friends for drinks and a bit of dancing. Great patio and cheap drinks on certain nights.
I love this place. It’s a home away from home, which is why it was so frustrating when I was charged $5 just to go *back* inside to grab the bag I accidentally left behind.
Fun place on the weekend, just wish they had some sort of AC, its sort of unbearably hot, had to use an ice cube to cool myself down.
Bartenders were friendly. Drinks were strong. Line was decently paced. Only $5 Cover.
Im always here for the Karaoke night. Affordable strong drinks, cute and friendly bartender, fun vibes!
Had a blast the 1st night. Pride night without a coat check... What the heck.. Lame.. Friends paid and now I cant join. Heads up.
Very good place to drink and meet people !Bartenders are really friendly and respectful
Too crowded. More women than men. And music… idk. I think $10 cover is over pricing.
Sunday and Tuesday nights are great. There is Karaoke on those nights and the crowd is fun.
I know the owner and the entire staff. I am bias about this bar because I am friends with staff and patrons, so I always enjoy myself.
Good atmosphere, they have small private booths which I appreciate for having conversations with people.
Go to spot for 20 and 30 somethings in SF. Cheap, cash only drinks with indoor dance area and an outdoor patio.
Good Happy Hour deals, great music and large smoking patio
Cheap drinks. great patio. good music. good people.
Great place! Cheap cover! Strong drinks! Amazing night :)
Used to work here 12 years ago and came back to check it out. Still as fun as I remembered.
Love this place! They have a really decent happy hour!
The bartenders are all very friendly. Drinks are the best here
Popular for of town visitors, but otherwise an average bar. Check your wallet from being stolen!
I always love chatting on the back patio with friends and enjoying watching the guys wander around, back and forth
Dont order anything that involves the mixer gun. Bathrooms are sticky-floored and do not have mirrors.
Very generous free pouring, could have made for a big night had we stuck around. Friendly bar staff.
Decent bar with one of the few places to dance in the Castro
Pretty standard gay bar, with large outdoor patio.
I love to hang out at this place with my friends for good beer!
A sister bar to Badlands, with shared bartenders and a great smoking patio!
Better than badlands. Has an open area on the back. Better music than badlands.
Has an open air backyard, but the closed space is really small
This bar has a great patio area in the back!
Spacious bar with nice back outdoor area.
Nice drink, relatively short waiting line, cute tenders. =)
Reliable gay hangout with affordable drinks and good music
Toad Hall is always a fun time, and it only sometimes smells weird.
Karaoke nights are fun and the heated patio is 👌
So much fun!!!! Last call: I will survive is gonna play lol
The bartenders are very sweet and profesional love this place
Very relaxed bar. Festive ambiance.
My fav bar in the castro :)
Great place to dance and have a draft at the Castro.
One of the best gay bars in the castro hands down
Fun space with good music and room to dance.
Good spot, strong drinks and heated patio
The drinks are cheaper than the thrills... and Im OK with that.
Great happy hour, awesome staff.
Everything about this establishment is cute! Including the staff and patrons...
Cheap drinks for the area and great environment
Good for drinks.with friends. Pour great deinks
Loved the 2 for 1 drink specials!!
Great place for 2 for 1 drinks
Great people, drinks, and fun music.
Wrongfully charged on my card! Disappointed!
Cash only, great happy hour.
Cheap, but gets too crowded during peak times
Friendly professional staff and great atmosphere
Cheap but drinks can be improved
Drinks were good,an so were the people
Cheap drinks, service is ok
Good times. Patio gets loud.
