In my view best club in the city. Low key no table service. Nice outside source. Hardwood floor and great sound system. Very respectful people all around.
Recently was at this venue for the Pancakes and Booze Artshow (I was a vendor) and it was an amazing time. 2 floors. 2 bars, too much good art! Definitely need to catch it next time its being held here! The security is friendly, the batgrooms and well tended to, the coat check people are amazing...the list goes on and on!
I went here last night for the official side piece outside lands after show. I had been here once before for houseworks, but it was a small event only on the second floor. Before coming, I was a bit scared because Sidepiece usually brings out a lot of people and this is a small venue, I voiced my concern to my partner and little did I know it would foreshadow the night. When we got there, the two people in front of us were talking about how online it was sold out but they were going to buy a ticket at the door. We then heard security at the front tell someone to not sell any more door tickets until more online ticket sales people come. Then 1 minute later, we saw the two people in front of us purchase tickets and get in anyways. When we got in the place kept getting more and more packed, everyone was shoulder to shoulder. I went downstairs to get out and they CLOSED THE FRONT ENTRANCE. It was a line of people trying to get in and no one could get out. They said the only way to get out was the exit next to the DJ table… yes NEXT TO THE DJ TABLE. We then spent 20 minutes trying to exit, shoving our way through, I was having a panic attack, I was in tears, I couldn’t breathe. I thought I was going to die. I found ONE security person working the event, he was the ONLY security person. I was in tears asking him to please help me out and he told me “walk by yourself”. I told him it’s shoulder to shoulder and I can’t walk through people they’re like a wall… he told me “too bad”. I started screaming and crying desperately and rather than helping me, he told my boyfriend “handle your girl”. This was the useless security guard the the right of the DJ, he was black and had dreads and was NOT DOING HIS JOB. We then proceeded to shove our way out, almost got hit by a man that got upset by that until he saw the panic in my face. Then him and another guy also helped shove people for us to get out. When I got out I was so nervous I threw up and cried more. I told the guy at the front telling him conditions were not safe while bawling my eyes out. He offered me water and told me to please breath. I will never come back to this place… it scarred me. I thought I was going to die. Please if you value your safety do not go here. I have gone to EDC a lot , I went to outside lands that same day, I used to be a club rat… I have never experienced a place like this where I thought I wasn’t going to make it out alive.
Top tier. Outstanding San Francisco, music venue. Easy to order tickets off-line extremely friendly staff excellent selection of shows. This place is LGBTQ friendly. I would definitely recommend this location to friends and family. I will return this weekend.
I’ve had a few bad experiences hereone was when one of my friends went missing and was blacked out drunk by herself, I told the guy working the front and asked for his help and he responded “what do you want me to do about it” then finally said he would keep an eye out for her after I explained a girl drunk and missing in the club is extremely concerning, he didn’t even offer to get security to help. (security eventually found her but it took over an hour of multiple people asking for help and looking for her) super dangerous!another time a woman at the front wouldn’t let me and my friends go get food and come back when we had stamps for an event, and when I asked what the point of giving us stamps was if they won’t let us back in when we leave she said she would call security on us, which was very unecessary as this was a calm normal conversation. also if people are drinking you’re supposed to allow them to eat too it’s in abs certification training.another time a bartender gave my friend a free drink and made me pay for mine right after, which was weird like at least be more lowkey about it if you’re flirting, pretty unprofessional.other than this the vibes are always just ok, drinks are club drinks, crowd is hit or miss depending on dj. i’ve seen some really cool dj sets here but the staff and masculine heavy crowd has always thrown me off and i’m hesitant to come back and I always warn my friends about my issues with this venue.
Went for a pre burn party. Very nice and clean venue. Parking on the street close by. Staff was helpful and friendly.
I love this club! They make proper cocktails, the staff is kind, they will step in if there is a creeper on the dancefloor, theyre constantly improving the space, the floor itself is made of springy wood that leaves your joints protected after dancing for hours, and they have great sound and visuals consistently. Theres also ample seating and little nooks that you can hide away in for a rest or to chat with friends. Theres just this essence that the owners clearly love nightlife themselves and want you to enjoy yourself. It feels like they arent in it for a profit but for the sake of music and connection. Ive had sooo many beautiful nights here and look forward to more.
The best night club to party. This place has good lightings and ample space for 200 to 250 peoples. This place has 1st floor for more seating capacity. Few rooms for fun activities and 2 bars. Option for live dj adds pleasure to this place. There is also option to keep your belongings safeThis is just best place for parties.
DJ for the Charli XCX night played a brat song every 6 songs. I should have just stayed home and listened to brat.
I lost my ID and reached out on Google. an employee or a manager reach out to me very quickly and advise me with the next direction to go. I had a great time seeing Miss Monique and I was very happy with the service provided. The only issue is that the club was oversold so there was little space for dancing. However, it’s Miss Monique what do you expect?
This place was so rad! Fantastic vibes for an event space!
BEST CLUB IN SF! Hands down!We always have a good time at Public Works! Staff is extremely polite and friendly and go the extra mile to make you feel safe.Free water is awesome! Drinks are reasonably priced and delicious!Sound system can be a little better but the vibe is such that I wouldn’t complain. Parking is difficult, ubering is your best bet to avoid break ins as well.Shout out to the short black dude in security, he’s such a sport! Always making everyone laugh and making us all feel safe!Bartenders are so nice as well.. they keep filling water cups and keep it on the bar after 2am! :)One recommendation to the management would be not to oversell the tickets. Several times we’ve gotten pushed around wayyy too much and felt very claustrophobic.I’ve had countless amazing memories with my friends at this place and would like to thank the team for everything! Overall such a positive vibe at this place!P.S: I’ve only attended Techno events at this venue.
Great venue in the heart of San Francisco for those who love electronic music. Their events are well curated, with many top DJs stopping by on their way to the larger venues in Los Angeles.
This is hands down the coolest venue I have ever been to. If you get a chance to catch a concert here, definitely take it. The view from the second floor is amazing.
My 1st time at PW to see Sainte Vie. I loved it! Every staff I met from security to bar tenders were very respectful and friendly. The venue is clean, intimate and non-pretentious like how many nightclubs can be. The crowds vibe that night was amazing! Everyone I met was genuinely friendly. And the sound system??? My gahhhd! Its the best Ive seen and heard in a long time. Whatever youre doing, Public Works... youre doing it right. keep it up! It was worth the overnight flight from Phoenix to see this venue in person 💜
Super fun! Pattie Gonia came and gave a stunning show! Just wish they had more security outside.
A really nice club at night. We had a private event where the entire club was booked. Good space on the ground floor and upper floor with sufficient seating and there are 2 bars as well. The dance floor is large and music was just amazing. Great lighting and good drinks were available. Happy to have the experience to visit here.
Watched security detain people for leaving and threatening to kick them out for trying to leave? 12/25/2023.Groups of People started panicking that they wouldn’t be let out of the club, watched a security guard follow and attack an individual for “leaving” without leaving from a dedicated unlabeled exit.I watched this and slipped out the entrance while everyone was distracted.Very strange management. Been going here a while and its really gone downhill.Be careful if you visit here.I’m pretty sure its not legal to force people to stay in a building or to attack them for leaving or try to drag them back inside.
Great venue to watch live shows
Updated to 5 stars! Sounds like they fixed the sound system downstairs. The bass is amazing![Old review]I would give this place 4-stars if the sound system in the main room isn’t so awful! You can barely hear the bass and all the music down there sounds just very muffled. This place used to be great but the SOUND needs to be fixed in the main room! It’s a shame since they have so many great DJs and events there. PLEASE FIX THE SOUND SYSTEM downstairs!!! 🙏🙏
One of the best venues and layouts Ive ever been to. There is a ton of space for the greatest events of your imaginations. The two floor setup is perfect with ability to have two bars. The bartenders are very friendly and personable. The food vendors were also excellent. Possibilities are almost endless with the space here. Very clean facilities.
The team at Public Works did everything and then some to make our event run smoothly and safely. The whole crew was incredible. Total professionals who knew how to problem-solve when there were hiccups or obstacles. Definitely plan on booking with them again. Cannot recommend the team and this venue enough. They thought of everything!
This is my favorite place in the city to go out to. They have great artists playing most of the time. But the reason that makes this place the best is it’s staff. Recently I went to Public works, and towards the end of the night, I was not doing well at all. I do not know if this was the bouncer or another staff member, but he gave me water, kept talking to me (to keep me alert) and helped me get home safe. I was so surprised at how kind he was to me. If it was some other club (not mentioning specific names) I would’ve just been kicked out. I am very grateful to him and wish I remember his name. Will always happily return to public works!:)
Public Works is such a cool space. I think the review all depends on what you are doing here at the time of your visit. I have been lucky enough to attend a few private events here and really love the layout of the space. There are areas to dance, a stage, a few bars, and a couple areas that a perfect for more private conversations. The size also allows for a pretty big group. Overall a nice venue.
Excellent place for parties. They provide with good food and friendly bartenders. The club with two floors and your have enjoy the music and dance on the ground floor. Second floor is more quite and good if you need some place for chat. They have bar on each floor, so you dont have to wait for a long queue
Hands down the best Club in SF. The sound system is spectacular. Drink deals and fast bartenders will make you fall in love with this venue. In comparison to other clubs, the drinks are super affordable here. They even have slushees upstairs on any given night! As the city is ever changing, pretty please Public Works....DON’T!!
Its my second favorite club, but owned by the people that started my first favorite club (Mighty)! They get consistently great DJs and people are there to dance. Much like Mighty, its a large room. It also has a balcony area thats wide enough to dance on if the ground floor fills up. Theres something about the sound dynamics of the place I cant quite identify. I use to call it an echo chamber, but I feel like theyve come a long way with that. Theres just something about the space that just doesnt completely jive with me. That being said, I do think they are a fine, fun club that puts up world class talent. They have professional security and bartenders and staff. And a clientele that is there to have fun and dance. Have Fun!
Great spot to catch good DJs and dance! Cocktails are fair. Security guards are respectful and courteous.
Ive bern here for a few different shows and they host a day-party during the summer. First floor is one, big open space with Bar on the opposite wall from the entrance. Upstairs, there is second room and also a balcony for looking down onto the main floor.Ive only gone for music, so cant speak to other events. Ive found the bartenders to be fast, the acts good, and the crowds friendly. It can get crowded but its spacious enough that you never feel trapped.
(Translated by Google)I had a chance to visit this club at a closed party of Local Experts. I must note that the establishment is excellently equipped. There is a bar counter on both the first and second floors. Toilets are also available on both floors. It’s spacious and absolutely not stuffy, even when about 150 people gather together.
I showed up 15 minutes before they closed at 4 am because I heard it was a great place to eat late night. I walked in and was told they were closed but they were still serving other people who showed up 1 minute before us. Wouldnt recommend unless you show up earlier. If your hours say till 4am, save people the trip and dont close 15 minutes early
This is the only club I have been to in San Francisco but it was a lovely experience. I cant really compare it to others though. I like the way it is decorated with a mix of some ancient looking equipment and the woodwork that looks like an unfinished work. It really merits the name. And the service from the bartenders is really fast.
The old guy with moustache at ticket counter stole my money
I love the design of this club. The dancefloor is very big, the artists that play there are the best electronic music selection in this city. Bartenders, audio quality, everything makes this an excellent place to spend the night.
I dont go and see electronic music very often but I really enjoyed the recent concert I went to at Public works. Its a large space and they have a lot of bars around so there was never a long line. I think the atmosphere is a little lacking but with all of the dancing and light shows going on, I can understand why they would want to keep it rather bare.
Great for throwing a personal or company party with ample space for vendors! Its a 2 story event venue with a stage on the bottom floor with a bar and decent sound system. The space is open with space to view the stage from the second level.I dont think itd throw a party here but its definitely a cool space, that can be utilized with endless possibilities.
Very few things bring me more joy than a night of dancing at Public Works. I also felt safe and welcome -- they check for vaccination and 90% of patrons remained masked. Thank you for all the grooves!
Awesome bar with huge dancefloor and a 2nd story with a balcony. Bartender is quick to the draw and I got my drink less in 2 minutes. Great for office and corporate parties ans events. Sound system is state of the art. They offer live musical performanxes aside from djs and their mixes.
A very unique venue! Ive been to a holiday party here and a Moth show. I believe that the building was converted because the layout is different. Its also a bit out of the way of the main street. Overall, id recommend it as a multi-purpose venue.
Public Works is an event space in the Mission that has 2 floors and a bar. Ive only been here during tech parties but my experience at these parties are always positive. Although small, the venue does provide an intimate atmosphere for networking events. My biggest gripe is that theres only one bathroom and it tends to be pretty dirty.
One of my favorite venues in San Francisco. Ive seen it turned into a pop-up foodie night, a conference talk, and a few pretty wild concerts. The space flexes really well and I always have a good time. Bar service is pretty good, and sometimes even that gets taken over by the event. Bonus: theres a Banksy piece on the outside wall.
Only the best electro scene in SF. If you know, you know it’s here.
Cool, funky industrial space. Great for private events, plenty of opportunities to customize this two-floor space. Very raw with exposed beams and piping, so it wont look classic an traditional no matter what you do.
This is a spacious, 2 floor venue, that holds 449 people. There is at least one bar, and a decent sound system. Great for throwing a personal or company party!
Impersonal club on the bigger side as far as SF goes, bad acoustics(funktion one system badly needs tuning) , awkward beams all over the place, expensive drinks...early closing time(though lately staying open longer), sometimes weird crowd.BUT some of the best bookings in SF. so youll probably end up there if you like quality music.
My favorite club in San Francisco. The best DJs, the best sound system, and the best scene for pure enjoyment of house music in the city. Dont go for a super luxe club with flashing lights and tasty drinks. Go for the music and dance well past the SF curfew.
The downstairs sound system is pretty awesome, one of the best Ive come across. Theres an upstairs room also but its not always open. Sometimes the venue hosts non-music events like art shows and it use to host the underground farmers market (indie food tables). Street parking can be tough on Friday & Sat nights since its near the night club & bar area. Id suggest looking for street parking along 13th St (under the highway), or on Van Ness or Folsom, south of 13th St.
Since I cant leave zero stars I must leave one. Guy setting up the barricades sends people to a bar around the corner instead of lining people up. THIS IS A 21 AND UP venue only! Yet no where on the The Crystal Method bill did it say that, do you think anyone could say something to us?.... No it wasnt until they brought out their signs that said 21 and over only. We drove from Sacramento for this show. I would never consider this establishment again solely on how I was treated. Shame on you for not having your act together.
Loved the place. Big venue with dancing floor and extra upper floor, quality sounds was amazing and the DJ was lit ;) the vibe, dark vivid color inside when you get in, its perfect!!
We went there for a ticketed event. Was not told beforehand that there is no re-entry. Security would not let me go to my car to get my cigarettes and they said they will sell it inside. Bartenders throw water bottles when you tell them you want a cup of water instead paying 4 dollars for a bottled water! The management of this place definitely thinks they are smarter than everyone. Will never go back.
Love this place! Great speakers, decent prices on drinks, friendly staff, large smoking area, good vibes, sweet artwork from local artists that get auctioned there, and a steady lineup of respectable DJs to keep your booty movin.
I went to an event in Public Works and the space was great. The staff was polite and fun to interact with. They were organized and efficient. They are a great space that can transform to anything you want your event to be.
Was there on June 14 2024 very friendly staff
Maybe the best club in San FranciscoBig outside area to relax, and even many famous DJs. People that come here are weird, like halloween every day XD
Had a great night there as they booked two of my favorite djs, Tim Sweeney and the Juan Maclean. If I hadnt gone to see those two, Id probably find it a little pricey though. Beautiful show!
Used to love this place. Its changed a lot over the past year. As other reviews mention, bouncers/security staff kinda ruin the overall experience, but the DJs usually make it worth the trouble.
I went there to see Talib Kweli this past Friday! My first time and really liked the venue. Great dance floor as I got to explore it. The bar only accepts cash. Had a great time as a concert venue.
This place is interesting and huge, we were there for a private party, so not sure what it is like normally. It was busy and it doesnt have the best accoustics. There are a lot of steps but it did also have a lift.
Guys! U need a dB meter, a fog machine and a light operator!Anyways nice set.Grüße
Bouncer kicked me and my friend out of the line for drinking. Which everyone else was doing. Had us wait off to the side for 30 more minutes after wed already thrown away our bottles and were minimally intoxicated. Used this as an opportunity to teach my friend and I (both women) a lesson. Will never go back here after this experience.
Five stars for the consistent quality of their variegated programming. They book great bands in a flexible, and down home space (barn like). Basic cash only bar.
Terrible. I went to go see Todd Terje perform and was having a good time while the openers were playing, then got escorted out by the bouncers unexplained before I ever had a chance to see the main act. I definitely wasnt causing trouble, but the bouncers dont care. I want my $30 back.
My favorite club in SF. Over the last couple of years I have seen other clubs evolve around PWs concept and music. I get to see all my burners and the music keeps the people always up and elevated.
Had a private party here, the place is great, can handle a crowd of 200 or more, the 2nd floor is spacious & has also a bar, cocktails are good.
Nice music and great atmosphere. I visited an art event there.
Great party location with a dancing area on the bottom floor and tables and chairs at the upper floor. Friendly staff and awesome bar.
This is a very nice place i would like to come for some drinks on the weekend, very spaciouss & for my first afternoom here, it fits a good amount of people, nice securityyy and nice bar.. I would really recomend it
Racist people operating the entry to the club. Tried to get in 9/18 and black woman and black bouncer would not let me in because i was white. I had the 20 dollars and they would not let me in. Phone was dead, and they would not allow me to meet up with my friends. They left me stranded on the street.
Auto-signed up for spam promo text messages list that started sending long after attending an event
This place is not public, they charge for tickets and coat check. They may kick you out if you sneak behind the bar. Something about it just works…
Multilevel club. Typically 2 separate DJs. Fun vibe. Outdoor patio for smoking and chilling.
Large space... Good size dance floor. Awesome staff. Good Music and cool events.
One of the best venues in SF, always have a great time here. Staff is awesome
THANK YOU for being so awesome. This place is an asset to the whole city
Cool spot with an upstairs. Bar is well stocked and has a good size dance floor
Was a very intimate setting good sound system, good drink choices!
Had a private event here and I loved the place. It was so awesome. Thank you for having us.
Great music, conferences, staff, etc. and the sound system is top notch! Lookin for a good time? Public Works, folks.
Great place to go if you like techno music ❤️
Great sound and cool setup - a lot of great shows/parties have gone down in this spot.
Cool club space! Came for a Speechless event which was awesome -- improv PowerPoint presentations!
Great sounds and visuals. Awesome DJs and a smoke area outside.
Had a great night here. The setup with the different floors works quite well.
Nice venue for events, friendly staff. Upstairs is super spacious!
Fantastic event space and music venue with a kick-ass Funktion One sound system!
Great fun burner bar. not snobby, nice chill vibe and not too crowded.
The people inside accused me of pulling twice, I didn’t puke at all they just want to kick people out so that they can let more people in and make more money :/ such a scam.
My friend had a bad experience with me and nobody did anything to help
Good atmosphere friendly staff but super expensive and certainly not enough stalls in the ladies.
Good music, beautiful environment, and welcoming, diverse community ^^
I brought my friends here and honestly worst experience ever
DJ and music was underwhelming for nye
The AsYou LikeIt parties when they are here are great. Best vibes in the city. Burner crowd.
Depends on night and crowd, but they got good sound in function 1
Great shows. like all other venues, drinks are overpriced.
One of the few places in the Mission with a Funktion One sound system. Typically open past 2am on the weekends.
Great dance floor and DJ was really good
Best sound system in SF!!!
Good place with good food and drink as well located in strategic location of San Francisco, California, USA
Good
Nice big place, drinks are a little on the expensive side though.
Excellent club/music venue
Great venue for show, sound system is aiiiight
Music is great! Security and front door people! The worst!
Overrated food. Waste of time for overpriced bite sized snacks.
Great events, great drinks. Friendly staff.
Oversold John summit, overpriced and way too packed
One of the best sound systems in the Bay Area!
They only have about 2 bathrooms for 500 people. How is that a thing?
Good sound systemDrinks are overpriced and taste very bad
Bringing the best musicians to San Francisco, I love this place.
Bay Wheels customer appreciation party ... off the CHAIN!!
Power trippin security ruined my experience when I did nothing wrong.
I love the set up. Gotta join the burners
Good dancing in a well designed space.
My fav place for forgetable memories lol
Great space ,crowed gay friendly
Great DJs, good people, sweet vibe
Best water
Best vibe, sound, music, and visuals in SF
Don’t waste your time and money. We had very bad experience here:(
Always a great time!
Upstairs is always closed 😢
A great space for lectures and hanging out.
Super expensive. And everyone yelling over the music instead of dancing to it :(
Cheap drinks great shows.
Great music, fun crowd
🎯
Great place for dancing.
Massive complex, good for private events
2 bars, 2 floors, what more could you ask for
Nice venue, can be a little cramped.
Fun place for an art exhibit.
Great music , great vibe.
2’0 Clock Out don’t trust
Coming here for attending of farewell party a global event.
Cool chill spot for events.
Great place to hang around with friends
Cool place with interesting events.
Good after party club.
The best club in town!
💕 this nightclub
Very straight. Lots of bros.
Always 100% full and crowded
Nice club, slightly expensive
They are good people
Decent venue. Kinda homespun.
Good small club
Can’t help but dance
More bass!
Love the setting!
Fun
Wonder
Cool place!
Amazing place .
I love this place
Fantastic event venue in San Francisco, in the Mission District, with two floors and a dance area and stage for live music. It has two bars, one on each floor, and an outdoor area.
I liked! I went here at an event where they closed the place just for us and I know the atmosphere is definitely different on a normal night but I liked the space!
A trash. Almost three hours waiting for the show we paid for to start. They dont let us leave and come back in. Incredible, a scam
Toppppppp
