Irenes Myomassology Institute

I went on a tour of this massage school with my fiance, Brittney, who will be attending this school shortly. We were led on the tour by a remarkable woman, Michelle, she is very knowledgeable of the practice of massage and the history of the school and the woman who started it Irene. Michelle answered all of our questions explained everything about the school and the curriculum. Michelle then took us on a guided tour of the entire School. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a masseuse this is the school you want to go to, I highly recommend Irenes Myomassology Institute.

Irenes has become a place of growth and mastery of this craft called Myomassology. As a person who was gifted with healing hands, Irenes taught me how to cause no harm, how to investigate and listen to the body, and how to trust myself. I have been a student, apprentice, and assistant Instructor, Irenes has become a safe space for me and Im so grateful to be a part of the team.

Irenes is such a fantastic place to be! As soon as you walk through the door, you just feel home. Ive never met staff and faculty who care as much as the people at Irenes do- theyre truly some of the most inclusive, supportive, and encouraging folks youll ever meet. The students here are so great and getting massaged in the Student Clinic is one of my favorite things in the world!

As an employer of massage therapists, Im thoroughly impressed with Irenes and the quality of the program they offer. Ive been to the facility multiple times and its first class for sure. The staff is always friendly and the place is always clean.We employ many graduates from this school and they not only teach massage, but proper business ethics. Not every graduate is perfect, but they strive to set the expectation up for a successful career.

***Update - I received my massage yesterday. My massage therapist was John and he did a great job. I felt totally relaxed, escaping all my stressors (shortly lived, but 90 minutes of happy) I noted that he spent time on problem areas that I had not mentioned (I have arthritis and inflammation flare ups often). I definitely got more than expected and was satisfied with his service. He recommended drinking more water and stretching, both that I know that I have been lacking lately.Overall, welcoming place. The receptionist and other massage therapist that I encountered were polite.There’s nothing better than a business being accountable for mishaps. Myappointment had to be rescheduled. I expressed my frustration. I received a call from the owner and things were worked out. I appreciated the advice she provided/recommendations she gave that may help with my muscle tension.I’ll be back to give my review on the actual service.

I plan on attending the school in October, and I am very excited. The school had been so supportive of me and my goals. Especially Michelle has helped assist me on many things through out the process. And my new friend Kim has also been very helpful and kind. After deciding traditional college wasn’t the right path for me, I felt so lost. But irene’s just seems to fit perfectly with in my life and my philosophies for it. heal others! I am so excited to start classes. I will definitely refer friends here to share similar interests in this career path.

Im a past graduate of Irenes and I will shout the schools praises until I die. It was by far the best experience of my life. It was truly life changing, not only for me but for all my former classmates. I watched it transform a lot of people personally, for the better . The knowledge the staff has and shares, the friendships you make, the massages you get weekly and watching them change and get better each week, the positive energy thats in air - you feel it as soon as you step into the school. Before attending Irenes. I reviewed 5 different schools in the area. Not one could hold a candle to Irenes.This was in the early 90s ( When Irene was still with us).The Body, Mind, Spirit approach she supported was not only unique but in tune with the needs of the world.I have enjoyed owning a Spa in Livonia and practicing the profession of Massage Therapist for nearly 3 decades. I truly feel my success was contributed to the Mind ,Body, Spirit approach employed by Irenes Myomassology.

I come for the massages and have always had a great experience. always clean, always friendly, always a relaxing environment. the only bad part is when your favorite masseuse graduates the program, but that’s the point so I can’t be too upset.

I am currently a student at Irenes. When searching for the best school to attend for massage therapy, I considered several other programs. One visit to Irenes was all it took to realize I had not only found my school, but my path to where I belong. Ive yet to meet a staff member that isnt knowledgeable, funny, helpful, caring, and genuinely interested in the future of every single student. The atmosphere is what will hold you. The positive energy flowing through this place is sure to make you feel amazing. The amount of options they offer for electives is out of this world. Youll find your place. I couldnt recommend any place more highly.

I started at Irenes in February and it has been a great experience for me. Before I started at Irenes I knew I wanted to go back to school but spent a year not knowing what I wanted to go to school for. I heard about Irenes online and decided to visit in January, I immediately fell in love with the school and it is a perfect fit for me and my future. The school is very welcoming and warm, the staff and instructors are awesome, I love learning new things in all of my classes, students are involved and helpful. I am a new student at Irenes and the first word that comes to mind from being here is amazing. I was impressed by all the courses that I saw where offered at Irenes. No other massage schools in Michigan had this (Trust me I looked). Than when I came to the school it was such a serene beautiful atmosphere. All the staff shockingly matched the ambiance that surrounded the school with there smiling faces. Everyone is so helpful and in a good mood. I have been to other schools and I have never just felt good while being there. This school really is good for the mind, body and soul. Im really glad I found Irenes. Its changing my life for the better each day I come.

Irenes is like a second home to me. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the environment is clean. Everyone is so welcoming. The director, Kathy does all she can to ensure that all students have a fair chance. The staff is very friendly, and knowledgeable, and the schedules are very flexible. Im a soon to be graduate of this school and I LOVE it. This last year at Irenes has been such an incredible learning experience. I highly recommend coming here to learn the art of myomassology and also to get a phenomenal massage!

I attended here and was close to graduating during covid. i had about three months of classes left and had to complete my massages. the issue is they wanted us to give massages during the pandemic! i told them i did not feel comfortable doing so and they said if i didn’t then i would need to retake my whole program with the next class and i would have to repay everything, so i dropped this school. they are so unprofessional and very egotistical. i was not risking my health for them to take peoples money, especially me doing it for free. these people are just money suckers who don’t care about people’s wellbeing (crazy, considering it’s supposed to revolve around the health of people).

I started at Irenes this year and I am in love! The classes are so informative and the teachers are always right there to help you with anything you may need. The building itself is clean and comfortable, providing a perfect environment for learning. I have never before been able to say I genuinely enjoy coming to school. The staff have been there for me every step of the way, eliminating all the stress I associate with homework, tests, and enrolling into classes. I am so grateful to have found Irenes and I strongly urge everyone interested in massage to come see it for yourself! you will not be disappointed.

12 years ago I visited Irenes, contemplating enrollment. The school was so serene and inviting. However I wasnt quite sure I was ready to go back to school. Fast forward to 2017 I remember receiving a massage from an Irenes graduate and was absolutely convinced. As much as I loved massages I had to learn this technique and share this experience with others. I enrolled September 2017. The staff is excellent. Always genuine, friendly, helpful, and always there to assist......I dont know what took me so long!!😁

As soon as I walked into Irenes I knew it was the place for me. My mom had a gut feeling this was the best place for me to learn and be successful but when I walked in I knew for sure. The staff is extremely welcoming and everyone is genuinely kind and caring. The past 2 months have been great and I have learned so much from the staff. I cant wait to continue learning and graduate in June 2020. Thank you to all at Irenes for welcoming me and making me feel so comfortable and at home.

As a current student at Irene’s I could not be more happy to have chosen this road and school. The instructors are all so wonderful, and just want to see you succeed. My lifetime investment into myself all started with a simple tour to this AMAZING school. Irene’s Myomassology Institute has opened doors for me and so many other students to better ourselves spiritually as well as educationally. I started the program in September 2017 & couldn’t be more sure that this is the correct career for me. The staff truly feels like family, anytime I have a question regarding classes, bony landmarks or what type of oils to use -they do their personal best to guide me in the right direction. my peers are amazing to learn and grow with. I feel so fortunate to be gaining this experience & knowledge. 30 years later & Irene is still changing life’s!

Planned to attend this school for massage therapy however, the only person that seems knowledgeable and helpful is Michelle. I went to speak with Jeff he seemed extremely uninterested in helping me to attend this school. The conversation was a complete waste of time for questions that could have been handled via phone. I don’t think the staff understands that not all people have the luxury to waste time. I was honestly excited to attend but have decided to explore an institution in Ann Arbor that seems to be more encouraging.

I started my classes in September 2017. The atmosphere of the school is so warm and inviting. The staff is great, very friendly and will do what they can to make sure you understand the material and succeed. I’ve never been to a school where the instructors and the rest of the staff are so willing to help. They treat you like family. I enjoy going to the classes and love working with the instructors and my classmates. It’s the best decision that I have made and I look forward to graduation next year!

I am just a few weeks away from graduation, and unlike a lot of my fellow classmates, suffice it to say that Im slightly more... mature... than most. (In fact, Im older than most of my instructors!) I say this because I have seldom been so happy with anything Ive ever done! Irenes has been a truly life-changing experience from start to finish. While I wont say its perfect (and what is?), I will say that Im 100% satisfied with the quality of instructors, facilities and class materials. The electives are first-rate, the on-site clinic is a BLAST to work in (and a good introduction to real world work in the industry), the clinical events are just plain fun, and my classmates are some of the most fun, smart and capable people imaginable! Same goes for the TAs, who give so freely and generously of their time, talent and knowledge. Im truly lucky to be here, at this time, with this group. BEST money Ive ever spent!

Irene’s is amazing. The facility is beautiful and all of the staff is not only really helpful but so very nice. The school has such a welcoming feel to it. It’s hard to explain, but there is such good energy and great people there that it is hard to leave Irene’s in a bad mood. I feel like going to Irene’s has given me another family that I am apart of and I couldn’t be happier.

It needs to be pointed out how professional, considerate, and attentive this schools office staff, instructors, and maintenance workers have been during the Covid-19 pandemic. The amount of care they took, from the very beginning as the outbreak was recognized, to the careful consideration and process of allowing students the begin courses again on campus speaks volumes. Irenes has gone above and beyond to make sure staff, students, and clients have been educated in new protocols set to keep all safe and healthy and I for one cannot be more thankful. Online classes were provided by dedicated teachers and those who could not make the classes were individually accommodated. Kathy (the owner) has been apart of every single step in ensuring our well-being and that says so much about the pure quality of this school alone. As a student before the pandemic, I will say that all classes and instructors are exceptional. If you would like to learn massage therapy and have a passion for helping individuals, this school will feed your soul and get you where you are meant to go. Do not be disheartened by massage therapy because of the pandemic, be thankful and take advantage of the fact that such a school strives not just for your education, but your overall health and safety to the capacity that Irenes took it.

Throughout the years, I have had many friends who have attended Irenes. Never did it seem like the right time for me to make that leap....until now. I truly see the impact this school has on its students and community. It is a family all in itself. From the first day, you feel welcomed. The teachers, assistants, and apprentices are always available with eagerness to help. Thank you for that.

Irenes is not just a location. Instead, it is a destination of self enrichment and holistic health care. I have entrusted them with my education and it was my best adult decision so far. The staff is dedicated, helpful and motivational. The curriculum is diverse and enriching. The overall vibe of the school/clinic is uplifting and inspirational. Irene’s is a great place for an amazing value massage. My daughter, a since graduated swimmer from Wayne State, has used Irene’s many times for massage of her back and shoulders while she was swimming. She loved it and they were able to get the knots out and she was able to swim a bit more painlessly! Would highly recommend.

I knew from the first time I visited Irenes that this was where I belonged. The school has such an amazing vibe to it and I had such a peace as soon as I walked in and started talking to the staff. The staff are so helpful and make the schooling process so easy. I use to hate school and now I love going to classes. Irenes is a truly amazing place and I would recommend it to anyone!

The feeling of being part of the Irenes Community was great. I was on my path to graduating, had 35 hours in the clinic, amazing reviews and 3 months to go but thanks to signing a Last chance agreement, I had no options but to except expulsion when I got sick, again. Irenes let me down big time. I tried twice, consecutive years to graduate. Unfortunately my body didnt agree with me, and required more surgeries during the school years. Ellyn left me with very few options and treated me like I was lying, despite having several doctors notes. Its been 4 year and I still am upset about it. Talk about being pushed further down into a deep hole.If youre in good health and financially well off this is a great place to learn. The information passed down is fantastic. If youre like me, an unwell person, you may fall through the cracks. To be honest, my experience was a 2 star rating at best because of the great staff and students I met. The curriculum can be confusing to navigate as well. The amount of information and the lectures, 5 star. I settled for a nice 3, to be fair with my rating. I wish it had gone better. Perhaps theres more supportive administration now.Best wishes to everyone involved.

I am enrolled at Irenes, its absolutely fabulous experience. I actually get teary eyed in class at times, it feels like Im home. All of my classes have been delightful, informative and all of the staff is extremely helpful.

Im currently a student here. The knowledge Ive been gaining and the process of the program has been life-changing. Its not a one-sided or biased education system. It connects rational and spiritual knowledge in a balanced way and teaches the importance of energy on both sides. From the first few lessons Ive learned massage skills the have separated me from most massage therapists. They are very big on professionalism and can still be laid-back. The instructors and apprentices have great knowledge from experience in the fields. So many resources are provided to assist students along the process. Ive never been in another place like it before.

Im a 14yr alumni of IMI. Ive had the pleasure of being taught a few classes with Irene herself as well as know her daughter. IMI graduates are known throughout the country and are some of the most well trained and sought out therapist. Irenes sets the bar for what a Professional Massage Therapist should be. They not only train in Massage Therapy, but in ethics, pathology, anatomy, research, and standards in business practices. Having the opportunity to be trained at Irenes has given me opportunities I never wouldve accomplished otherwise. Ive met some amazing colleagues, worked on premium clientele, and its the best job reward Ive ever had. Irene was always challenging is to improve our knowledge and grow through our practice. Her passions are now effortlessly being carried out by her daughter, Kathy. In addition, the lifelong job placement and assistance in insurance and licencing have been invaluable to me as a therapist and business owner. I highly recommend IMI.

As a student, this school is amazing. It is life changing. The teachers are great. The reason I am giving this 3 stars is because Kathy, the owner of the school, and Ireness daughter, I have found to be very unprofessional and cold towards her students as if she only cares about money. Its like after you graduate, she doesnt care what happens. The reason I say this is because I finished my requirements a month late. We are given a 6 month grace period. The reason is because I had a back injury, totalled my car and lost my childcare all within 2 months. The day of graduation, I had 36 hours of massage left to complete. When I did, I was told my completion of the program info would be sent to LARA right away so that I could get my license and start working. Kathy was on vacation. They did not send my information until a month after I had completed my requirements. I am in no monetary debt to the school, as I paid off my entire $500 balance with them. This is after calling several times a day almost every day for a few weeks to figure out what was going on. In addition to this, Kathy sent out a mass email on changing the policy of students to not be able to walk with their class if their requirements and $450 books are not paid by the cut off date. She then proceeded to say that my class took advantage and literally called us slackers. I have called to speak with Kathy SEVERAL times and am put on hold for at least 10 min every time, then told she Is not there, busy, stepped out, at lunch, etc. She is aware of my situation and I have not received any contact from her whatsoever on this entire subject. I have had one job refuse me already for it taking to long for my license to go through, and have another employer who is starting to get tired of waiting also. I have my son in daycare so that I do not lose my spot there once my paperwork actually does go through. As far as I am concerned, this school has put me in a very complicated spot that I did my best to avoid. As of right now, according to Michigan LARA, I never attended this school. Because they havent received my completion paperwork.

I’ve gone for 2 massages recently; one at the Irenes clinic and the 2nd with a massage therapist who told me they recently graduated from the program. In both cases the massage therapists conducted “energy work.” Without asking if it was okay. This feels very uncomfortable and intrusive. Who is teaching these therapists to perform forms of Reiki without asking? No thank you.

Irene’s Myomassology Institute is more than just a place of education. During my experience in the one year program, I implemented growth and improvement in my everyday life. In my experience, receiving a practice massage every week for a year healed deep cellular trauma in my body. Massage has transformed my mental health and I want to sing it from the rooftops! Besides therapeutic massage is a career on the leading edge of holistic healing!

Very nice people at this facility, its extremely clean and welcoming! I came as a client and got a massage from one of the students, the massage was just above average not bad at all for someone who had only been massaging for 6 months! It may sound silly but the only issue I had was they dont massage glutes or groins :( (Im a soccer player and these are huge problem areas for me) Im sure thats just their policy so no big deal I definitely will be back!

This is a great school for learning and to receive massage. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and willing to help every step of the way. There is free wi-fi, so on campus studying is easy. The building is handicapped accessible, with wide doors and an elevator.The student clinic is where students practice massage on the public. There are 5 private rooms and each therapist has to pass a practical exam to work in the clinic.As a student I loved my time here and enjoy each experience I have in the clinic getting a massage.

As a recent graduate of this school let me tell you its a waste of your money, time, and resources. I encountered numerous issues with curriculum and brought this to the attention of the educational director nothing happened, I brought my concerns up to the student advisor no improvements, I even spoke with the owner, Kathy (who gave the previous 5 star review 😂) and she wasnt concerned either. I asked for reimbursement and received nothing despite the lack of knowledge, organization or preperartion from my instructors for the year long program.To top it off my former ETHICS teacher is now using emails she gained from her former students to further her Mary Kay business. This school is a pathetic joke. Save yourself $4,000 and get your training at Schoolcraft, I wish I had.

Whether you come to Ireness at a crossroads in life, or at the end of a chapter of your life, or start of a new one, this place is an indespensible in your journey. You will learn so many new things, about yourself, your body, and not to mention a wonderful new trade.

This place is full of love, learning, and general good energy. Teachers are well educated and can mold the teaching for each individual student. You dont take any classes that are unimportant to your job as a myomassolgist. So everyone there is happy to be there. I love everything this place both is and represents

Irenes Myomassology Institute is an absolute oasis. The energy you receive upon entering the building is palpable. The education provided by the curriculum is rigorous, but encompasses such a broad wealth of different healing modalities that the possibilities for your own practice are endless. If you have any interest in massage, whether as a patron or as a practitioner, you owe it to yourself to visit Irenes.

I am in the new February group of student and so far, my experience has been amazing. From the moment you walk into the school, you feel like youre at home. The professors are very straight forward and very enthusiastic .

Classes start every semester lasting a year to date, providing you with the first years license. The curriculum is straight forward and does require 16 class hours at the start followed by 4-8 extra hours for homework and electives of your desire. Excellent credentials for anyone interested in Myomassology professionally!

I just started my program here after hearing many wonderful things from previous students. The staff, teachers and atmosphere are wonderful! It is just what I was looking for after growing up in a holistic/waldorf home. This place is a MUST if you are looking for a massage school. Just schedule your appointment!

Minimum Standards for Irene’s Approved Employers (long overdue) is a huge advancement for the next generation of massage therapists/myomassologists. Implementating these standards will undoubtedly aid in the strength, validity, and respectability of this very needed occupation.

You guys still ripping people off? By promising them a career where theyre making a hundred thousand a year when in reality most therapist that graduate are going to work at franchises for $15 per body and not paid hourly you people are the biggest scam artists out there trying to sell a dream that turns out to be a nightmare in student loans. The reality is is that most graduates are going to have to get a second job at least in order to try and pay back the student loan for a b******* industry.... People you need to save your money try to get into an industry that will actually make money and not put you in financial debt for the next 5 to 10 years
