This place has declined significantly. The way they handle patrons is not professional. Security shows disdain for both men and women. For example, a friend who is neurodivergent was expelled because she looked inebriated. She was denied the opportunity to assert herself. There were other people who were denied before entry. How do you judge the appearance of people before allowing them to enter? I can attest; there were definitely a mix of people in line who appeared sober and also drunk. Yet they denied many people in line. I don’t wish anything bad on this establishment, but I simply wish everyone who decides to spend their money on them would be treated with more dignity.
This place hosts some pretty hardcore artists and expects you to just stand and nod your head. If moshpits are your thing do not go you will get arrested. I’m not sure why they’d allow hardcore artists to play where moshpits are expected then heavily police the floor and kick anyone who gets remotely rowdy out of the venue. I suggest they stick to hosting house music.
What the hell is wrong with this club, no respect for edm, 15 security guards when there is only 25 people in club, they kicked my best friend out twice lolol this club is a joke and only cares about $$$ plus they are the cheapest club on the block. Seriously stop booking dubstep if you guys are scared of mosh pits you soft soft people. Leave edm alone fr you are ruining the vibes out here
Went here for Halloween with my gf and we RARELY go out to clubs but this place was it! Wasn’t too busy when we first got there but crowd started picking up around 11. Bartenders were great and security was extremely nice so not sure why a lot of people had bad experiences with them. We had an amazing night and danced all night!! Would recommend if you like dancing and good music!
What kind of business is closed during business hours countless times? I’ve wasted trips trying to pick up a gun and today was there at 2, well within business hours. I went next door and asked the business owners if there is something going on and they said you were always closed within working hours. This is unfortunate. I don’t like writing bad reviews but availability is important and if you’re not going to be open, at least have the courtesy to post a sign explaining to the community why.
Security looks for a reason to rough up anyone they can. its like a contest on who can get there the quickest. ganging up on the wrong guy and dragging someone by the throat is top notch service -5/5
Yeah, I am out. Frankly, this was a waste of money. I expected better from the owner of Shady, for how much I have loved that venue.... There are much better venues in the valley, though. Get staff that are better at customer service, for one thing...
Currently one of the best two nightclubs (sound + production + bookings) in Tempe.👉🏼 PK Sound system, and professional live lightingVibe is fun, laidback, and casual.Music is a wide variety of electronic genres…with massively popular international DJs, well known domestic DJs, and often local DJs at the beginning of the night.Indoor/outdoor space is great to have…and there are +3 different bars, so rarely are you waiting for a drink.
Got kicked out for head banging at a dubstep show??? maybe understand your crowd better GM
Kicked us out even though we just arrived. We literally got there 10 mins ago and they told us we were too drunk and we barely had a beer at another bar. Bouncer was extremely rude and didnt understand that we just walked in. Im extremely disappointed that we paid $40 a person to just get kicked out. Never going back. Im sad
Visited with friends for a birthday concert for our friend on 1/20/23, everything was fine up until the very end. We went to see Crankdat but only got to see about 20 min before security PUSHED, but I mean SHOVED the birthday boy I’m not sure why. Everyone was having such a great time, fortunately our friend who got shoved kept calm, (he’s in the military so I think he knows better not to lash back) but wow. That was rude, unnecessary, and extremely unprofessional. A simple warning would’ve sufficed. I get you’re dealing with drunk people and wild people every shift but our friend did nothing to get treated that way. This is exactly why I never come to Tempe to party. Security always thinks they’re hot stuff.
Security is trash. No warning before kicking us out for moving a bench to sit down. Absolute waste of money getting kicked out for something we didn’t even know was wrong. There needs to be more direction on what you can and cant do and when you cant do something just tell us and give us a warning instead of immediately kicking us out, it was unnecessary.May 13- 23 Edit: My friend went to get in (shes 21+) with her tribal ID and they denied it. NEVER have had trouble before. Talk about racism fr. ITS A LEGAL STATE ID.
This place has the rudest staff ever!!!Their goal is to kick everyone out PROMPTLY at 2am. They were screaming to get out within 1 minute of the DJ saying his goodbyes on the mic, and then I was practically being shoved out the door by security. They wouldn’t even allow a last minute trip to the restroom before closing, and the security guard told me “Not my problem”. Left a very bad taste in our mouths. Two thumbs down. Do better Darkstar, we pay your wages.
Had a lot of fun, they charge 3 dollars for rocks(ice). And the event was scheduled from 9-2 and around 11 they told everyone to leave because they had another event coming up. And I stepped in gum upstairs ☹️. But I still had a good time, great atmosphere
Don’t know what the deal with all the whining about security is, some people just get in trouble no matter where they are. I had a great time and security was cool to me, as I didn’t cause any problems. Great little venue with nice seating.
Security was on one last night. Weve been to a lot of venues and have never been treated the way we were last night. Worst experience ever. I could understand if we did something wrong but we didnt and security was obviously on a power trip. Ended up staying an hour and then we left. Wont be returning to this venue again.
It was ok. The small concert we went to here was fun and the people were a good vibe (contrary to darkstars very dark atmosphere) The drinks on mill ave usually are about 6-7$ a beer or like $15 for a vodka cran at a concert. Here it was $20 for a mixed drink and I don’t understand why this place thinks they can charge more than the competitors. It’s dark and the stage/special effects are weak. I’m not planning on returning unless I hear drinks get cheaper or the stage and effects get better
It was a vibe! I would love to call this chill spot if music: the dark child of shady! The new of the best with the old flare of vibes.Rather your taste be different in music, if you want the welcoming nature of people! Go for it!It was my first time here after coming back to Az and I was met with random hugs, laughs, smiles and down to earth vibes! People dancing and being respectful of space! It’s gonna be a must to go again!
0 Stars if I could. Rude security, Would not accept a Federal tribal ID for entry which is illegal to not and once they found out they were wrong still denied my friend entry, will definitely spreading the word on this venue and its bs practices and power hungry security guards bunch of clowns
We got turned away at 8:30 even though they close at 10. Security turned us away while the other security guard was trying to let us in.
Smaller venue. Theres seating on the left side of the stage available for free. As well as a large outside seating area for smoking. Vibes were there though ☺️ good experience. Saw Dalek one and mythm was amazing
Security was extremely rude!! I was with my friend who was kicked out for SITTING ON A BENCH that had no signs or anything indicating not to. Very upsetting and ended up wasting so much time and money on something we were really excited for! Would not recommend at all!!!
A truly mediocre (From Google, adjective: of only moderate quality; not very good) venue in every way, from the overpriced drinks to the self-confusion as a concept. Darkstar fails to capture Shadys backyard vibes with its patio and barely conjures images of a classic, dark warehouse for all of 2 seconds, strangely falling into concept purgatory while managing to feel cramped everywhere you stand in it.The proximity and openness to the rest of the Mill crowds really dont help its case, and despite Sunbars fratty/Old Town-y crowds, that venue was at least open enough to be tolerable. The one huge plus for Darkstar is the artist curating, but honestly now, that should simply be the baseline at this point.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place completely ruined our night. As we were paying for our drinks a bartender cleaning the bar kept spraying the cleaner onto our drinks and in them. Then kicked us out 30 minutes later, security told us we could come back later without one of my friends but was then told there was no re-entry by other security at the front.
Bought tickets for a BAYNK concert at Darkstar that started at 9, after 3 and a half hours he still didn’t play and I had to ask a security guard that told me he wouldn’t be on until 1am, my boyfriend who I bought the tickets for had to work the next day so we left without seeing the actual concert. Please post when concert showtimes actually are, it was a huge bummer we didn’t get to see BAYNK. Drinks were good though.
Didnt even get one drink before security waited till I was alone than kicked me out because I was too drunk I didnt even have a drink yet. Im extremely disappointed. This place doesnt even deserve a 1 star review. #super_disappointment
THIS PLACE IS DISCRIMINATING!!!! DENIED access based of a tribal ID. It’s a federal ID you guys are not allowed to deny access to a federal ID!!! THEN STARTED TO JUDGE CAUSE OIR FRIEND CRIED AND SAID “we would let you in but not now” RUDEST PLACE I HAVE EVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TOO!!!!
Over priced for a venue that attended. Also limited space. This place sucks!!
Drinks are over priced and they don’t offer free water but other than that I love this place for the shows.
They dont accept temporary IDs and have extremely rude bouncers. Their name should really be DIRTSTAR because of how grimy and rude they are.
The security is doing too much, they act like they’re trying to protect the place from an armed robbery. It’s a music venue. Chill out, it’s not that serious. Endgame over darkstar 100 out of 100 times.
Loved it, will be back!!! Great layout, great sound, wonderful patio. Basically the perfect nightclub.
Free water, decent size, outdoor break area, good sound. Couldnt ask for more.
Drinks were a little pricey for a dive bar but the party was fun
Security will take it upon themselves to kick random people out for no reason.
1st time here! It was nice set up the sound system was amazing
Pretty awesome laid back venue for Mt first time
Awesome venue, totally fun place. Can’t wait to return
Really love the new aesthetic! This place is going to host some legendary shows
Always clean and safe. Good vibes. Dope artists.
Up close and personal venue with a great patio right on the corner of 6th & Mill.
Here for it Rest In Peace shady park
Was oki
Bad.

Darkstar and lobby both trash due to security !!! They are disrespectful and rude!!
Trash!! Security is sooo rude and disrespectful!
